Hugh is in Uruguay this week to film a commercial for Lipton Iced Tea, and he was interviewed at a soccer game. At the end of this video at about 2:00 he's asked if there's going to be another Wolverine movie, and his answer was that it will probably start in March or April.

EXCLUSIVE: Darren Aronofsky's deal to direct 20th Century Fox's X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 is close enough that discussion has turned to shooting the sound stage portions of the film in New York so the filmmaker and Hugh Jackman don't have to inconvenience their families. A March start date is being eyed so that Aronofsky has time to open Black Swan and be available for the inevitable awards season obligations. When the New York scenes are completed, they'll head to Japan to shoot the bulk of the Christopher McQuarrie-scripted movie. Deadline told you last week that Aronofsky had set his sights on Wolverine after passing on the Warner Bros period crime drama Gangster Squad.

According to this, the filming start is now July. I guess Darren wasn't kidding when he said during all the Black Swan stuff that he hadn't focused on this yet. I wonder if the recent horrible events in Japan will affect filming there.

Most likely scenario, as a matter of fact.

It's fine for me if the movie is pushed back for a 2013 release date, it will give more time for Aronofsky to get ready for the movie and round up a good cast. It's either that or a release date in late summer/fall in 2012.

Casting call - click on the link as I can't copy it. It's mainly for Japanese males and females fluent in Japanese and English, 20-65. It says it will be filmed in New York first and then Tokyo, depending on events in Japan.

That's cool, hopefully by the end of next month they have at least someone else in the cast besides Jackman but right now I hope that by July the situation in Japan is safe enough for them to start filming there.

Son of a *****! :(
Aronofsky was one if not the reason I was excited to see this, sucks that he's backing out. I only hope they will find a good replacement but I'm not sure I will be as pumped as before when Aronofsky was onboard.

An Aronofsky directed Wolverine movie was too good of a prospect to ever be real

Hugh is in London right now promoting a charity, and in this video interview he's asked about Wolverine. He said it should start filming in OCTOBER.

Did I miss something? How are they going to film without a director?

Nah you didn't miss anything, what Jackman meant is by October they should have a director onboard and ready to shoot the movie I guess.

If they start shooting in October, then that'll be a 2013 release.

Not necessarily. X-Men The Last Stand shot in summer/fall of '05 and made it just in time for its May 26, 2006 release date.
And I doubt Fox even intends for this movie to be released next summer with all the other stuff coming out. I think they were always targetting the fall of 2012.
If they wanna release it in the summer, they can still get it done though.

October is not the summer.

That has never been suggested once. The X-Men movies have always had summer releases, and this year's blockbuster season being packed didn't stop them from scheduling First Class for a June release.
Aronofsky himself indicated that The Wolverine would require almost a year of production, just for the Japan shoots. For the movie to start shooting in October and make a summer release would not only mean that the timeline Aronofsky was talking about would be cut in half, it'd also mean a production schedule even more rushed than First Class'.

They could be targeting a August 2012 release but It Is more likely a June 2013
release.Which would be month after The Avengers but a few weeks before The
Amazing Spider-Man hits theatres.
The Wolverine has a script. And it Is better from all reports than the scripts for Last
Stand or Wolverine. They will get a director who likes the script and Is prepared to shoot It.
Being rushed Isn't always bad as X-Men,X2 and First Class showed.

Fox will rush it to 2012.

Fox will rush it to 2012.
Hugh has been doing radio interviews to promote his one-man show in San Francisco next week, and naturally Wolverine has come up in most of them. He said the movie is definitely still on and filming should be "end of this year, early next year." He said it was meant to start filming this summer but the director dropped out.
So it totally sounds like a 2013 release.
