Yes, they had to sneak onto the moon so they could disable the shield generator for the death star, not the individual ships.

The death star had shields, but the starships didn't...for example, the superstar destroyer was taken out of action by a single ship hitting its bridge and that was before the shield generator was taken out.

Energy shields block energy weapons. A full on collision is always a threat. The ship that got taken out was because they crashed into the bridge then the ship lost control and crashed onto another large ship. The deathstar had a shield generator on the moon because it wasn't completed yet. If you watch the movies again they are always talking about losing a deflector shield in almost every space fight. They just didn't have the same special effects back then and you didn't see the shields on screen the way you do with Star Trek or Stargate. The fact that they mentioned them constantly is enough for me.

As to the match, Darth Maul took on one of the best Jedi Masters in the history of the modern Order in Qui Gon AND he took on Obi Wan Kenobi during his prime and he more than held his own against them both, of course killing Qui Gon with relative ease and no injuries sustained.

THAT says more than anything that Maul is just a deadly fighter. Not taking away from Luke facing down Vader, albeit his father who really wasn't trying to kill him in the manner Maul would.

Hands down, Darth Maul is the better fighter with a superior lightsaber, not to mention being the most underrated SW character ever.

Its been said that Luke was an instinctive fighter, since he grasped, understood, implimented, and improvised fighting styles without any formal training. Maul's style seemed very fluid and graceful, but I'm guessing it was a style he was taught, not something he taught himself. This is why I tink Luke was a better fighter. He flourished with minimal instruction from Yoda, while I'm sure Maul received extensive instruction from Darth Sidious.

I gotta disagree. I mean, yeah, there's the destiny thing. But really, Luke beat Vader but Vader clearly wasn't all in for trying to kill his own son. And Luke did nothing to beat the Emperor. Luke's good, but taken in context he ain't all that, imo.

Oh c'mon dude. Luke never beat the emperor. Vader did by chucking him down a hole. Turning a darksider back is an accomplishment, but not one that's going to have any bearing facing Darth Maul.
Also, Vader held his own against Kenobi who definitely wasn't in his prime. Maul held his own against Kenobi and Qui Gon at the same time when they were both roughly in their primes.
You make a good point about the actors portraying the roles, but I still don't think Luke could take this given their opponents in the past.

And as Canary fan said, Maul was all about the Lightsaber, but my conclusion from that comment makes me think that his advantage, not disadvantage. In a straight up fight like this one, Lightsaber skills are what matters.

Hmm, I think the Ghostbusters have taken down some pretty big baddies in the past. Violator might be a bit trickier than the average intra-dimensional being, probably on par with the Bogeyman in the animated series. I say the Ghostbusters win, but it'll be a tough fight.

In Iron Mike Vs the Dragon, I'll go with Bruce, if its anything other than a straight boxing match. Bruce was great, but would need to use his legs to make up for his lack of size. In a boxing match it would be close, but I think Mike would win.

Frail frame? Lee had one of the most well-developed physiques ever. I daresay he could have taken a few direct body blows from Mike, and not even flinched. And Bruce didn't know Brazilian Ju-jitsu, per se but he did study a variety of grappling techniques that were very similar. You can see him use a few in the fights with Chuck and Kareem.

I strongly disagree. Chances of touching Bruce are slim as it is and being able to use grappling and kicks and all those different styles of martial arts give him a much higher chance of knocking out Tyson.

He was a bad dude but he didn't invent "mixed martial arts", nor is the concept of "mixed martial arts" new.

Pretty much, Goku's so much stronger and the key factor, his Speed. He's going to blow past him before he can utilize any attack. After killing King Piccolo he showed enough durability to take ANYTHING Aang can throw at him.

In the end, it's the Speed. Aang's not even a tenth as fast.

Okay guys, as you've probably been able to tell over the past few weeks, my life is crazy right now. I've got 2 jobs, an internship (basically another job) and 3 courses I'm doing to finish my masters degree.

So basically I'm giving up on keepin this going myself. It's just too much of a distraction. I'll hopefully be back when I can but that might not be until May, so ANYONE who wants to keep it going is encouraged to. Rock and roll y'all.
