See, here's my situation.

I've got a little hair in between my chest, a very short happy trail, quite a bit of hair around my bellybutton, a jungle-like groin, and very hairy upper legs.

My friends told me I need to shave. Well, shaving and trimming are two different things, and I don't know if I want to shave everything.

It's been 3 good years, in which the posters within is a veritable who's who of SHHype. Everybody's stayed on topic during it's 54 page run (something that's practically unheard of around here), it's received over 450 votes, and in general, it's been an all-round fun thread to read.

I've stuck with the Mach 3 throughout the years. It's like an old reliable car.

I would imagine the upgrades would be just as adequate, but I see no current need to spend theextra money.

And as far as a vibrating blade goes.... no thanks. My weiner is tiny enough as it is without me snipping off a few extra 1/8 inches...

Although I'm sure that some women are actually hairy (I've seen some girls with some very hairy backs, so I hate to think of how they looked further down :( ), if anything a woman just tends to have a little "peach fuzz". That's why brazilian waxes go up the back end too.

One way to reduce the burn or ingrown hair is to shave in the way the hair grows. If you shave against the grain, it causes the cut hair to go underneath the skin.

No a women's blade won't help you. We get razor burn and ingrown hairs too.

In most cases they're pretty much the same as a man's blade only in pretty colors.

Both noxema and avveno make shaving creams. Both are good.

Here are some other tips (that I copied from a web site :o):

Wet Hair: Make sure to get your hair very wet before shaving, ideally after taking a bath or shower. If you don't shower first, wet your hair for at least two minutes with warm, soapy water. Wet hair cuts better and easier than dry hair, and is more likely to cut evenly (and not at an angle).
Use Quality Shaving Cream: Use a quality shaving cream to reduce friction and irritation. Really work the shaving cream into your skin for at least two minutes, and save areas that tend to develop bumps for last when you're shaving, so that the shaving cream has longer to soften the hair. You might want to try an oil or gel if you tend to have acne as they have less of a tendency to clog pores.
Don't Pull on Your Skin: Don't stretch out your skin while shaving; let is stay neutral and relaxed. Stretching your skin while you shave increases the chance that the hair will 'snap back' to below skin level.
Shave No More Than Twice: Only shave the same area twice. Continuously going over an area will tend to irritate.
Use Fresh Blades whenever possible. Make sure your blade is not dull.
Single Blade: If you are prone to razor bumps, only use a single blade razor
Follow Grain: Shave with the grain, not against it.
You can also find creams/lotions for after you shave that are designed to help reduce shaving irritation and prevent ingrown hairs like Tend Skin Liquid. An aloe vera based hydrocortisone cream will also help razor burn and bumps (doesn't do much for ingrown hairs though). There's also a shaving cream called Benzashave that will reduce bumps and make it less likely they'll return.

Oh, and for the person who asked about depilitories (Neet, Nair, Veet, etc.). They can be very irritating to your skin. They do help reduce razor bumps and ingrown hairs, but you can still end up with something akin to razor burn because they're so harsh... and the longer you leave them on the worse they are. The thing is, the coarser your hair, the longer it takes for the stuff to work.

I, personally, wouldn't recommend people using them on their face or pubic area.

For me, the best thing I've found is waxing/epilation... which takes the hair out at the roots. No burn, no bumps, no ingrown hairs... and you don't have to do it anywhere near as often. I understand that some salons offer a package for men that is often referred to as the 'back, sack and crack wax'.

I don't know how waxing would work on a man's face? I know there are women who have their faces waxed though.

Good advice, Daisy. The depilitory creams/gels/etc. are a great way to give your little guy a nasty chemical burn that will take weeks to heal in addition to being painful as hell. Stay away from them. I've never done the "back, sack and crack wax" before but I have heard it's effective (if not a little bit painful the first time you do it). I'll just stick with shaving in the shower, thanks.

I actually use a man's razor (Mach 3) because I find that it works better for me than the "female" razor brands I've tried.

I'd recommend using a good after-shave lotion to help reduce razor bumps on your face...try Nivea for Men (they make it for sensitive skin). I got a bottle for my boyfriend, and it works really well.

I use the Aveeno's Sensitive Skin shaving cream for my head & face, but I don't use any creams to shave my testicles and the shaft. I do it every second day, so the hair doesn't have that much time to crow thick enough.

I have psoriatic arthritis. So I had the psoriasis dry skin patches as well as rheumatiod arthritis like symptoms.I had this for many years (and it adapted to the medicines too...about every 6 months I had to change). I started on Enbrel shots 2 years ago.....the psoriasis patches are completely gone (and have stayed gone)....and the degenerative effects of the arthritis have stopped (I still have problems with it from where I had it...it just doesn't get worse at this point)....I'll swear by the stuff.

Interesting. I'll share that info with my wife. A lot of the time it's dormant, but when it flares up she's absolutely miserable. Thanks.

And it's nice to know that it had no ill effects on your pecker.. seeing as you can still knock people up.

Congratulations, by the way...

So you don't think it's ettiquette for a guy to trim to make it easier for a woman?

I think the whole metrosexual, extra shaving, prostate stimulation male is a feminised creature, but thats only my opinion. I was born in the 60's I guess I see things differently.

Sure thing...I'm glad to spread the news about this medicine....it's completely changed my life. I was having trouble doing the simplist of things (such as tirning door knobs)....but I have very limited trouble now.

And it's nice to know that it had no ill effects on your pecker.. seeing as you can still knock people up.

Thanks...yeah, it was a surprise to us...not because of the medicine...but just because we had given up hope.

Well step 1 is scissors but now I keep it trimmed so that I only need razors to keep em nice and tidy. But... I wanna try and go totally bald down there.

My fears are:

cutting myself
having ingrown hairs (never had em, don't know what they look like, but I hear they're a b***h to deal with!)

Use a good shaving cream (I prefer Aveno Oatmeal For Sensitive Skin). Don't shave too often (allow a little time for decent regrowth to occur before shaving again) to reduce risk of ingrown hairs, and don't shave against the grain if you can do so (some people have pretty fine hair, especially downstairs, and shaving against the grain is the only way to get completely smooth). Use a razor you're comfortable handling that doesn't feel unwieldy or too bulky to do the job (some people don't do well with the three, four & five blade razors on the market for this particular shaving job), and shave in the shower because it provides ample moisture and opens the pores up. A good soothing aftershave cream (one without alcohol) can be helpful afterwards. Avoid the Skin Bracer (unless you are a masochist). Take your time and don't rush. Have fun.

I'm doing everything you said except the Aveno shaving cream. Oddly enough I have some my sister got me but never used it because I don't have facial hair yet.

How do you deal with the pubes between your thighs and balls, and the rights right near the shaft. Those are pretty tricky and high-risk lol.

LOL "Have fun." Yes sir.

Perhaps it's a cultural issue then. I was going to mention that I believe this feminization of the male to be the reason (in my opinion) men born after 1980 are more likely to have a reduced sperm count. I know about Xenobiotic Oestrogens etc. However I think the larger more aggressive "modern" female has forced "some" men to be more like them. I think the "bling" culture of large diamonte earrings in males etc, is just a further example of this emasculation. I think the "shaved" scenario is disconcerting. I think often these grooming products are bought by women for men.

To much information.

Whatever floats you're boat. I'm not having a go at you guys. I'm just not into it all myself. A shower, clean teeth, a little aftershave and deoderant is the limit of my groomin. I even shave what little hair I have left to avoid worring about that.

You made it about dominant vs. submissive, not me. Just happens to be an area I have explored in my time on the planet and as someone who has pride in being kinky, I have to tell you that it doesn't have much to do with dominant vs. submissive as a general rule of thumb because it's a misconception, that's all. Sorry. :)
