The Big Lebowski

You haven't seen Chinatown yet?! Well, what are you waiting for? You should have seen it yesterday.

Although, I haven't seen The Big Lebowski yet. :O

Anyway, the latest greatest film I've seen was The Tree of Life.

i saw chinatown once in film class. maybe i need to watch it again, but i wasn't sure why we were watching it, it wasn't bad or anything, jack Nicholson was entertaining as always, but i wasn't sure what was so historically significant about it that we had to watch it in a film history class. again, not knocking it, i may very well have to watch it again.

Sgt.Pepper

My god, I remember that I was blown-away the first time I watch it, it left me completely speechless.

Chinatown is, without a doubt, one of Polanski's best films, it's a flawless and timeless masterpiece. But I may be a bit biased as I'm a big fan of Polanski. :p

It's on the checklist , lol. My first time watching Lebowski I thought it was just good but not great. Then after repeat viewings I noticed more of the subtle humor and now it's one of my favorite films.

I would like to hear your opinion on Chinatown, when you've watched it.

Don't worry, The Big Lebowski is on my watch-list. I heard that some people don't like the humor in that film but as I like the Coens' humor, I expect that I will like the film.

Not sure that I'd call it "great" but a very good film that really surprised me was Centurion. Since it didn't get a theatrical release in the U.S. (or if it did, I wasn't aware of it), I figured it probably wouldn't be very good but since I'm a fan of Michael Fassbender, I figured I'd give it a shot. Well, I'll tell you, it's a shame this movie didn't get more attention. Not a perfect film (some of the secondary characters could have used a little more development and it felt like a few scenes had been cut for some reason) but certainly an intense, brutal and often shocking interpretation of what may or may not have happened to the Ninth Legion.

Fassbender is perfect as the noble Roman soldier, fighting simply to survive and protect his friends, Olga Kurylenko plays the animalistic and downright scary Pict warrior determined to hunt him down, Dominic West redeems himself for Punisher: Snore Zone, and JJ Feild shines in a small role that makes me wish he'd had more screen time in Captain America.

What I liked most about the movie was that it didn't attempt to make either side the "good guys" or the "bad guys" as these movies often do. Both sides have their faults, and while you sympathize with Fassbender's character, you can clearly understand why Olga wants to see him dead. All in all, definitely a movie you should try to catch.

All the Marvel movies realised this year ( X Men First Class, Thor, Captain America) as just seeing characters I've grew up with being put into the movies is amazing, and they were all great.
Schindler's List. It was both amazing, and made me cry. I haven't cried properly at a movie since Little Princess, when I broke down when the little girl was crying for her Dad to remember her. ....I was five:dry:

Chinatown.. finally, it's a good film , the ending is still disturbing to me.

It's perfect for the film.
It:
a.) Cemented the film as a stylized retelling of the myth of Oedipus.
b.) Accurately depicted the history in the film: the theft of water from the farmers.
c.) and captured the anguish felt by Polanski when he lost two important women in his life to violence: his mother in a concentration camp, and the death of his wife, Sharon Tate, at the hands of the Manson family.

It takes a lot from me to watch it again. Each time, the emotional bleeding is as strong and painful as the first time.

Great movie. I'm also a big fan of John Barrymore, Spencer Tracy, Anthony Perkins and Jack Palance's versions of the character. My only problem with the Fredric March version is that his Hyde looks too much like a caveman or some kind of simian werewolf (weremonkey?). Still a great film though.

Shame - 10/10

Powerful, brutal film that is often tough to watch but you can't take your eyes off it. Michael Fassbender delivers a powerhouse performance that should not go unnoticed at Oscar time, although the racy subject matter might cause the Academy to steer clear of the movie altogether in favor of "safer" films. That would be a shame though (no pun intended) because this movie is truly a rare gem that gives perhaps the most raw and realistic portrayal of sex addiction that we've seen on film yet. Carey Mulligan also shines in a memorable supporting role. Definitely a film that should not be missed.

the muppet show all the movies sesame street labyrinth and the storyteller

I rarely rate movies, but I would probably give it a 10. There's one point in the movie where a bunch of them are dancing along to "We Built This City" while cleaning the Muppet theater stage that was so insanely silly that I just realized...there's no other movie coming out this year that's going to leave me this happy. :oldrazz:

I grew up watching Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock, and Muppet Babies (I had a "Pigs in Space" lunchbox in first grade), so I've always loved the Muppets. Is this the same as the 'old' Muppets? I wouldn't go that far, since it's always going to be different.

But Jason Segel and his crew deserve so much credit for capturing what was so awesome about the Muppets in their heyday and bringing it back. The movie is so much fun. If you're a fan, definitely check it out.

Between Shutter Island and Hugo, Ben Kingsley pulled off really fantastic performances. I hope he works with Scorsese again very soon.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol was around an 8/10 for me, but considering how few good movies I've seen as of late (still haven't seen The Muppets or Hugo) I'd say that's a pretty impressive score. It was hardly a masterpiece but it was incredibly entertaining and the action sequences were fantastic.

Kind of a stretch to call it great, I think, but overall I thought the concept and idea was pretty awesome. The execution could have been better, but not too shabby in the end.

I don't know, I've looked forward to the movie for some time but I didn't like it as much as I had hoped and yes the premise is interesting but throughout the movie I feel just nonchalant, unfortunately. I mentioned on the latest movie thread that I think the movie tried to cover more than it could and some areas are just lacking. The main one being the character development for the main character and there's instants where it tried to convey much without little to no dialogue involved and just showing nice shots but it just didn't work out so well here, at least for me. Now don't get me wrong, I don't hate it. Brit Marling is an actress I'd want to see more of in the future, she's capable and she's off to a good start and for his first feature film Cahill managed to do a decent job but for better or worse this is just what I thought. Perhaps the movie will grow on more viewings, who knows.

I think that's all pretty valid stuff actually. Like I said, I'm hesitant to call it a great movie myself, but the concept was so good and relatable, even if the execution wasn't as good as it could've been.
