actually in the original picture, Reeve's face was brighter than his neck and especially his hand...but this was done as just a quickie. i'll do a better one later tonight...

I hope they keep his hair like this since it's naturally curly/wavy. Having just a single S curl works in the comics, but it looks kinda silly in real life. Only thing I would change is the color of his hair. Dye it jet black.

The way I see it... Reeve comparisons are going to be made. And yeah Cavill favors him (A Lot) but thats because Reeve Looks like the Superman from the comics. So I like to think that Cavill was cast not because he looks like Reeve but because he looks like Superman. Just want to put that out there before it gets going... :cwink:

yeah, that's T.O.'s body. i used a picture of him as an example of how you don't need a muscle suit. all you need is sportswear and a toned physique to make the suit look awesome.

Nice. The suit colours look like they could use a little more love, and the hair colouring looks a bit unnatural, but overall I really like it. That's a sexy Superman pic. It makes me shake my head thinking back to just about every single SR promo pic where it seemed like they were actively trying to diminish any of Brandon's natural attractiveness. Shame.

Definitely the best Cavill manip that I've ever seen! If he would have that body and hair for the role I would be most pleased. And the suit is perfect as well... a good change for a new take on Superman but staying faithful to the original at the same time. Good job, sir!

Totally, i dig the modern looking materials accentuating in all the right places while still retaining that homemade feel. The only thing, and this is tiny and nothing to do with the design, is that the neck looks wonky. The sterno- muscle doesnt look correctly positioned. Fix that, and it's ace.

I didn't know this manip thread was a competition. I don't see any need to hate one manip over another, all manips are welcome. All fuel the excitement for the new movie... I love them all.

This sucks, I simply don't have time to invest in a new manip, but here's a cg cloth previs of Superman's cape I did for s*its and giggles, maybe you guys'll get a kick out of seeing something in motion. The model used is just a quick makeshift cg mannequin. The cape is even customizable so if people want to see different attatchments, different S, by all means request away. I was in the process of making the full cg model of superman (with Jon Hamm's likeness) but I've moved on to doing more original characters.

i used to work for a subcontractor in VA but i was let go earlier this year...now i'm a freelancer (for now) in NC. what about you? hope your screen name doesn't reflect your actual state, hehe.

i like it when the cape droops over his shoulders also...but the way Superman's cape attaches in ANY traditional design doesn't allow for that effect when he's standing with his hands on his waist. the only times the came goes over his shoulders are when he crosses his arms or if his arm or arms are straight down.

it's an almagam of different designs. the end of the "S" resembles the SR shield though. i'll always love the traditional bump on the end, but from a design standpoint it doesn't quite fit with the rest of the shield.

Great work, Hobo. Not only does the poster look great, but the overall tone is exactly what we should see in posters for this movie. Every other Superman movie's poster has had him looking majestic, or stoic, or whatever. Just standing there, or flying, or floating. It was enough that it was Superman. Since they've said that this will be a more physical Superman movie, the poster should let everyone know that from the get-go, especially since the lack of action was one of the biggest complaints about the still-fresh-in-peoples-minds Superman Returns.

actually i'd say that our three versions (yours, supersebas's and mine) are equal, they all have something good that the two others don't have and they all have something wrong:

yours has the best hairs but the skin color doesn't match, supersebas's has the best color matching but he used Chris Reeve's jawline and ears, so it doesn't exactly looks like Cavill, and mine may have the best "Cavill head implantation" but there's something wrong with the hairs (as if he had a bald spot) and maybe my S shield, while looking better, in my opinion, may look a little fake...

You know I don't think anyone else has brought that point up in regards to the suit design. Maybe you could say it again in the costume thread. Fantastic as this is, and it is fantastic, why, when people use pics of Reeve for the costume, and do so much other work on the manip, do they so often keep the emblem from the Donner films?

Not trying to pic on you at all, it's just that symbol always drove me nuts, in how the S was warped and un-even. I still wonder if that was actually the intended design or not, considering it was consistently like that, including on the cape.

I know they usually don't use EXACTLY the same emblem as the regular marketing one, as it doesn't look quite "right" on costume, but why would they make a design that looks like the stitching just wasn't quite done right?

I always figured it was just a flaw do to the time the movie was made, but the Superboy series had a much more controlled execution (albeit the "marketing" design mentioned before, and thus didn't quite look right) and it was done not too long after.

Superman the movie was a HUGE budget film for the time, and smaller films had much more precise costume work.

Okay, that is amazing. The only concern for a suit like that in the movie (and if I think about it too long, the concern with any suit that has a cape) is how does he fit it under his normal clothes?

Not really digging that redesign as much as everyone else, the high collar just doesnt look good, if it was open like a normal superman suit and made the pants and upper part together instead of separate then it'd be amazing.

The layout is there for sure, but its a little too overboard imo. I hope the original artist of that design posted above me doesnt mind, but i simply modified what was already there. The collar has to go, sorry but i like the more traditional superman suit and i think a lot of people agree with me. I adjusted the color of the suit so its just blue, and i added a sweet looking belt. The design is just aesthetically brilliant, the lines or seams if you will are put right where you need 'em.

Simple adjustments and you get a brilliant looking suit, imo we need something similar to this for the film. Hopefully we do. And again i hope the original artist doesnt mind.

I quite like this.... definitely good that the belt buckle is not the same shape as the shield above.
If the shield was slightly less raised looking and the belt buckle a bit smaller so it did not appear bigger than the belt, I'd feel it was perfect.
