Keep in mind that all this is opinion based...please don't bash people if they name a movie that you thought was "amazing"...however, polite, witty, and/or sarcastic arguments are welcomed.

Let us begin!

Taxi

Jimmy Fallon was intollerably annoying...and the main plot just sucked. The only thing that kept me in my seat was the thought that "this movie can't get any worse..." and it did, it was intriguing...

Quite a few, recently: I am a fan of exploitation films and b-filmdom, but these were atrocious, and some of them were studio productions:

"ThanksKilling" and "The Toy" were both pretty bad for different reasons. I'm sure "The Toy" was funny at one point int time, but "ThanksKilling" will never be good. The only reason I watched "ThanksKilling" all the way through was because my friends and I were drunk and making fun of it.

The Stepfather remake.

Yawn. Cat scares, mirror scares and people bumping into one another. PG-13, so no blood. Teen music playing whenever teenagers are on screen. Annoying. At some point, The Stepfather deletes an email on a computer and the music goes "DUN DUN DUN". And of course, there's a thunderstorm during the climax...

Ah, Manos. The movie that not even Mike, Tom Servo and Crow could make funny (though they tried).

It certainly deserves its title for being the Worst Movie of All Time, however, it clearly didn't have much of a budget or talent involved... it's sad that I've seen films that were almost as bad and had millions of dollars thrown into them and big name actors.

It's sad. The whole thing is like a mix between The Hand That Rocks the Cradle and Troll 2. The movie begins with *sigh* opening text exposition (I hate exposition, don't you?) Something about Druids making sacrifices to trees. Is this true? The movie is based on a novel titled "The Nanny" by Dan Greenburg. The screenplay was written by three people, including Friedkin...

It's the first Friedkin movie I've seen that has opening credits... and it's the exact same credits from The Exorcist and Exorcist II: The Heretic! The same font. The music sounds like The Exorcist too (Fantasia for Strings.) There are two dream sequences in the film, and one of them is rip-off of the dream sequence in The Exorcist (you know, someone is running.) Oh, and in one dream sequence an animatronic wolf head pops out. Looks so phony. It's something you would see on a carnival ride.

In the beginning, a character packs his clothes with Stephen King's IT. We get a "in your face" shot of it. Why Friedkin? You like that book and you didn't get to adapt it?

So, a couple wants to hire a babysitter to look after their baby boy. Of all the potential babysitters, the one who is black dies. Damn it Friedkin. The evil babysitter wants to sacrifice the child to a tree. At some point, the evil babysitter is attacked by muggers who intend to kill her, and the baby too. Geez. The evil tree comes alive and kills the muggers. A head is crushed, limbs are torn off, and one of them is eaten by the tree. Yup, the tree has a mouth... and teeth. I wonder if its the tree from those Harry Potter movies. Later, the evil babysitter gets naked, is fondled by the tree, and is turned into a tree, or something. Those nasty druids.

There are two false BIRD scares in the movie. I guess Friedkin thought cat scares had gotten old. At the end, the main character attacks the evil tree with a chainsaw, and blood comes out!

The movie begins with the shot of an owl, and it ends with the shot of an owl. I don't get it.

So, Friedkin turned down Blatty's Exorcist spin-off and said yes to THIS instead? Well, Friedkin, congratulations... you made a movie that's worse than Exorcist II. I mean, at least that movie is something special. This is just B-Movie schlock, and it's not even fun. It's just dull. Oh yeah, and the performances are so wooden.

Wow, The Guardian is on dvd... with an audio commentary!? http://www.discshop.se/filmer/dvd/the_guardian_import/P83089 I must buy this, and hear Friedkin talk about this crap, haha.

I also don't see the appeal of Kristen Wiig. At all. She always has that look on her face like she's trying to figure out who just farted.

A Serbian Film.

Read about it in Rue Morgue a few months back, as well as many ramblings around the internet about it. Decided as a big horror aficionado that I should check it out. In the end, it turned out to be one of the worst films I've ever seen. It was just grueling and unnerving. This is coming from someone who doesn't mind or was unfazed by other horror/shock films such as Salo, or the 120 Days of Sodom, Martyrs, Cannibal Holocaust, Irreversible, Gummo, etc.

It was just garbage. It's like the Hostel films with a dash of borderline child pornography. Seemed like the director and everybody involved with the production tired really hard to shock and disgust the viewing audience. I guess some will look at it as an art house film and others will look at it as an exploitation flick but it really just wasn't the movie for me. Just my opinion.

No, I meant the awful follow-up to Romero's otherwise solid first few movies. Saluting, talking, gun-firing zombies? Please. The attempts at provoking thought were also done much better (and more subtly) in the immediate predecessor. Having four survivors the audience might give a **** about is also preferable to the angry military cliche vs the frustrated scientist cliche.

I did like the first scare and a few of the zombie kills, but this was otherwise pure disappointment.

Worked fine in Dawn of the Dead. They may not have been cliche characters, but only having one of the 4 characters likable didn't hurt that film.
In Day, I just felt it was more of a different look at other survivors during this. Not all survivors are gonna be majority likable. I will say I did enjoy the original script more than what the movie delivered.

These posts make me sad. :(

because you agree and people actually took the time to watch these movies...or because you disagree and think they're great films?

If you're defending these movies...here's my take:

I know Southland Tales is rife with deep meaning and other implications...but it fails as a movie because it really barely explains anything. You'd need to watch it several times over to get the meanings, and even then you'd probably need to go online and read up to connect the dots...and it's really not worth all that in my opinion. Donnie Darko I love...but it hangs by the skin of it's teeth to a certain degree as well. It makes enough sense...but I still needed to read up to make full sense of the concepts that are dealt with.

I Am Number Four...I'd love to see someone defend that film. The first half of the movie is basically made up of scenes of poor acting with shots of the main character with not shirt on and later scenes of the camera slowly revolving around "sexy sulky man" while popular music plays in the background. The love story is boring and the dialog his horrible. Not to mention all the powers that he kept getting with no explanation at all..."oh yeah, I can do that now" :whatever:...I could see an early teen with their brain switched off finding enjoyment in this movie...but even then it's a bit of a stretch. The only thing this movie has going for it is unintentional laughs and some decent action scenes. But it's all highlighted by boring love crap, horrible dialoge, some poorly explained plot points, and really rough editting/scene transitions. I could go on, but what's the point...

Wow, though I do not know you and I'm in no way making a character judgment I'd have to say I disagree with some of your tastes Navigator (though I also love Portal so that is redeeming :word:).

Day of the Dead (which I just watched today) is a great film, probably George A Romero's third best in my opinion. I think there's only so much you can do with Zombies and with his first few movies, I think Romero added something substantial to the sub genre or changed it slightly. For example while Night introduced the zombie lore and sort of brought Romero into his own with the craft of filmmaking, Dawn has a BRILLIANT theme/motif of co existing with the undead. Eventually the downtrodden and confined main characters start trying to live peacefully for as long as they can on the other sides of the stores within the same mall as the zombies. The zombies are also portrayed in a very fragile human way, as being from every walk of life (i.e. the Hare Krishnah Zombie). Eventually, human kind foils itself with the biker gang, and proves to be much worse than the zombies and the zombies become almost heroic figures of salvation ala soddom and gamorrah as they destroy the biker gang and the main character manages to escape.

You see a similar theme going on in Day of the Dead where the Bub zombie has been captured and partially domesticated. He feels for the loss of the professor and takes out his agression in a poetically just way by killing the black-hearted military commander. Both of these are really unique types of isolation in the midst of a zombie outbreak as well, from a shopping mall to an underground bunker with it's own unique trapping system (the lassos and the cages). I'd urge you to give it a second look and check out some of the more sublte and effective shots, such as when the black guy punchs out the military leader, thinks about finishing him off and then looks over at his dead companion and laments the loss of human life, and thinks about how little of it is left. The fragility of human kind is a major theme in these.

And yet Romero himself says that there is a lot of over-reading people do in these films, but lingering on the dead body of the scientist and the shots of Bub the zombie giving the salute and the focus on the value of life, or the futile clinging to life can't be totally unintentional. One of the times I spoke with Mr. Romero he remarked that a lot of people thought that he was making a bold statement with African American protagonists in 2 of his zombie films, not the case he said. It was totally an afterthought and unintentional. Also, his films were not intended as a statement about war or humanity destroying itself (being made in the Nam era some of them). They were just him and his friends going out and having a good time. And you can see his craft continuing to develop through his films. Romero said Dawn was his favorite, seeing the larger themes and thanks to the fantastic "Goblin" soundtrack I can't help but agree.

"Well they're dead they're all messed up"

The second film we disagree on is the Adjustment Bureau, which I thought dealt with romance on screen in a really believable way. It's not often you see a movie that's not a "love story" primarily with larger science fiction themes that makes the love so charming and belivable. I also felt the supernatural elements in Adjustment Bureau were explained just the right amount and I wasn't left wondering about the physics of the world like I was with Source Code.

I don't hate that movie (Tom Savini's work is too outstanding for it to be terrible) but it's refreshing to hear someone else not be totally up its ass. That was the beginning of Romero using a sledge hammer for his political satire (something that only got a whole lot worse in his last two Dead flicks). And I know the acting is far, far from great in the first two movies, but here it's straight up over-the-top, fingers-on-a-chalkboard aggravating. Captain Rhodes ridiculous "CHOKE ON 'EM!!!!!!" almost ruins one of the best zombie death scenes ever put on film. Almost.

I actually prefer Land of the Dead to Day.

Nobody knows something's going to be bad (perceived by himself as bad) or good for that matter. One can merely suspect. But curiosity, hope, freedom of choice or the pleasure of tearing apart the movie with your fellows hypsters (or whatever the name is) is reason enough.

I never expected Spiderman 2 to be any good, and it was. I was certain it was going to be SM1 all over again, which I hated. And it was same director and same cast. But no.

Plus, Bay seemed pretty aware that TF2 was terrible. Giving him a chance is nothing objectable.

Coach Carter. Feels like a made for tv-movie, Samuel Jackson makes it enjoyable. Everything around his performance is crap.

Limitless was pretty stupid. Interesting concept, but bad execution and a bunch of dumb little subplots that just felt like filler.

C.H.U.D. II - Bud the Chud, I made the mistake of watching it a few weeks ago. I forgot how bad it was.

You had a marathon of this?? Are you being held captive somewhere?? I watched Epic Movie and made a sacred vow never to watch it again or anything connected to it.

I like watching bad satire but even I would draw the line at watching more than two back to back. A marathon is too much.

Possibly one of the five worst movies I've seen in my life.

Police Acadamy.
Use to think it was cool as a kid, watching it now, it's actually a pretty crappy movie.

As much as I love Depp and Jolie, I have to agree. :csad:

I still like Police Academy though it is definitely not as funny now as it was back then. The humor is a little dated but it holds up better than a lot of other stuff from that era.
