Does anyone know when we're getting a trailer for Immortals? I know the release date is still a long way off, but I'm really excited about that film. And I was interested way before the Superman announcement.

Yeah, true. Oh well. At least they are taking their time with it and not rushing it like Crap of the Titans. I'm sure that, at the very least, it will be better than that horrible movie. Of course, that's not saying much...

The Immortals will probably get alot of attention just from the fact that "New Superman Star Henry Cavill" will be mentioned everytime. But yeah, I've been looking forward to it for quite some time, ever since I first read about it. I still like the original title though, wasn't it "War of the Gods"?

I have a question for those posters like me who were not big Henry Cavill supporters or Cavill haters. Does his casting as Superman make you want to see the Immortals movie more now? It does for me.
It pertains to me, and yes...

I think I won't see it. Seeing cavill for the first time as superman will make it seem more like he actually is the character.

I think Cavill wouldn't have done the Immortals if he knew he would get Superman ;) lol
Anyways let me say what I like about Cavill's look the most.
1. Does not match Reeve but still has features of a comic book/animated Superman.
2. Contrasts from previous Superman Routh who was more Reeve like, and looks very different from Welling as well. This will really help separate the film from past projects.
3. Best looking actor facially since Reeve, this will pull in a demographic of female fans that Routh didn't pull in. He is a decent looking fellow too, but not the type women would swoon over imo.
4. A distinguished natural regal appeal, no doubt in part from being British... This works for Superman well though. He is the son of Jor-el from the house of el after all. Many compare Superman to having the look of a greek God, and this certainly helps. No Cavill is not god before you go nuts! lol

then again....if Cavill hadn't done 'the Immortals' (which will undoubtedly make him a bigger star) he might not have gotten the role :word:

I wanted to repost this from the original casting thread, about how Joe M wasn't going to get the role...because it just goes to show how right I was .
I've been around these boards a long time...I've seen fan wish lists come and go, and "front runners" drop into obscurity.
Do you guys want to know the one thing that EVERY major front runner for a superhero movie has in common? They NEVER get the role.
Logan Lerman/Josh Hutcherson.
Bradley Cooper.
John Krasinski.
Alexander Skarsgaard.
Alice Eve.
Crispin Glover.
Lachey Hulme (yeah, that's going back to 2006/7).
Ashton Kutcher.
Just saying...

And going by your criteria, Cavill shouldn't have got it but he did!
He also ignores that John Krasinski and Josh Hutcherson actually got their respective roles, but were replaced almost immediately.

I have to wonder how Cavill's casting came to be. Did the WB folks like and remember him from earlier on? Or did Snyder hear about all his fan support and was like "Yeah, let's see what he can do"
I gotta admit, even though he was my top choice, I didn't have a whole lot of faith he'd actually get the role. Mainly because there hadn't been a word about him and all the Joe M talk kept going on. I guess that probably should've been a positive sign.

I don't think Immortals played a part in Cavill's casting. Cavill was a previous runnerup and was also on Nolan's radar from the Batman casting. As a director, you tend to feel bad for your shortlist actors and keep them in mind when they don't get the main part. Also Cavill wasn't weak in any areas.
On a side note, I want to say that I like how this Superman board has evolved. There seems to be a lot more older posters and more dialogue. I like the fact that they are not removing every new thread and making a one thread for all type of deal. Hopefully enough positive news keeps coming to keep people excited for this film. Can't wait for the poster and next year's Superbowl spot.

Apparently Chris Nolan saw his old screen tests and suggested him to Snyder and Snyder said "bring him in" and then Cavill won the part. This was also relatively recent. Like, last week recent.

I'm gonna try not to think about it too much... otherwise I'll hype it up in my mind and we'll be getting a huge interview with Snyder and Cavill with a Lois and Luthor casting announcement and costume concept art.

Yeah, I remember hearing that. Hopefully Stephanie Meyer will publicly gush over him during a press conference somewhere in the months leading up to the movie. Then her army of teenage drones will flock to see this Superman movie and it will make $150 billion at the box office.

There was a lot of talk of bane. I was hoping for bane personally after riddler was ruled out, but hardly anyone was actually expecting him. Catwoman and Bane are the first villains nolan's using that don't wear suits. Of course that could change once he nolanizes them, but he's still an unexpected choice.

Well, Cavill is taller...Suppose that helps? It actually hinders. Taller people have longer muscles, so they need to put on extra weight to add significant size.
It's negligible anyway because Cavill is only an inch taller than Evans. Cavill can easily reach the amount of muscle Evans has for Captain America in the time he has.

I finally saw "The Social Network" this past weekend, and while I liked Armie Hammer in the movie, I feel he is too nondescript as an actor. Totally forgettable. He would blend into a crowd of other blonde, blandly handsome actors. On the other hand, I watched every episode of "The Tudors" and was riveted every time Henry Cavill was on the screen. He has that certain "je ne sais quois" that can't be explained but is completely mesmerizing. That, coupled with the fact that he's a gorgeous hunk of manhood, makes me believe he will be an AMAZING Man of Steel. That is just one fangirl's humble opinion.

You and me both! I'd break into a spontaneous smile whenever he came on screen, you could've put a cartoon bubble over my head shaped like this :hrt: Even worse when my girlfriends were over and there were three of us lined up in a row like that
..
Seriously though, check out 'Blood Creek' alternatively titled 'Town Creek'.
I second this recommendation. And you get an idea of his American accent in this also. It's decent - one or two funny sounding words spat out in anger -- but you wouldn't know he was Brit if you didn't know to begin with. The movie itself is so-so -- not horrible, not great -- about two brothers getting revenge on a family harboring a Nazi zombie/vampire...or that's what I got out of it anyway. Henry's character was heroic, well-intentioned, but macho and sensitive. And he looked pretty good too.
You and me both! I'd break into a spontaneous smile whenever he came on screen, you could've put a cartoon bubble over my head shaped like this :hrt: Even worse when my girlfriends were over and there were three of us lined up in a row like that.
This might be the first superhero movie that women drag their husbands and boyfriends to!

If there's one thing superhero films need right now, it's more female viewers. As much as I make fun of the Twilight crowd, it's mostly because I'm envious that the genre films I like don't usually get the turnout that they do.

I'm expecting Cavill to be somewhere between Hemsworth and Evans' physique. If Evans had only 4 months to get in shape, and they don't start shooting Superman until August, Cavill can easily do it. Especially since Snyder likes a more muscular Superman, we'll finally get a powerful looking Superman onscreen.

I think Cavill has the dedication to get into shape. He doesn't need to by bodybuilder big. Just athletic or like Craig from that water scene in James Bond.

Am I the only one that thinks the Evans pic is enhanced a little? The fact that he is covered in some sort of fluid makes him look bigger, and he probably did some bicep curls before shooting to pump up his arms, but set pictures have shown that he isn't that far off from looking like that.

I've always thought Craig had a great Superman physique in that scene... powerful looking, but not pretty boy ripped.

Evans looks weird to me because he's pretty buff, but he has a scrawny pencil neck, unlike Hemworth who has that thick bull neck, especially in that Hammer scene in the rain.
Scrawny pencil neck? He doesn't have a big neck like Hemsworth but scrawny?
GoblinWhirlwind

Scrawny in comparison to his build. You don't see it? I had always hoped his EW cover was shopped because his neck was laughably thin on that... he looked like a little kid. It was, but not much apparently.
Scrawny in comparison to his build. You don't see it?
Not really. He has very broad shoulders which might make his neck smaller in comparison but I can't say I ever noticed it.

No it isnt, his most likely on a pump and the way he is positioned adds to it as well. Before that shot was filmed he probably did a few push ups on set. And whats with everyone talking about Evans body and gushing all over it, of the two Hemsworth has the much better body by far.

Head? Little hands? Working out doesn't change the size of those things. And the neck is one of the most genetically dependant areas of your body as far as bulking up is concerned. I don't see what's wrong with his neck anyway.
As for using steroids, possibly. He didn't have a lot of time to bulk up for Cap.

Actually there are weight training methods for the neck that will enhance muscle growth. Very popular (and has been for decades) amongst football players. We do this to protect ourselves from injury.

I know we can't take actor's words to heart especially after his particularly snide dismissal of who got the part, but is he trying to indicate that Cavill only got the part because he couldn't work out a schedule for both True Blood and the film? Cavill in this type of shape now, gives me ultimate confidence that he will at the very minimum look the part of Superman provided they nail the costume.
I don't think Routh, Reeve or Welling were as big & most importantly as ripped as Henry Cavill currently is heading into the training for their respective roles as Superman.
Hes definatly got a very good base, if he could get to near the same size as Chris 'Captain America' Evans I'd be very happy. It is achievable as well as right now Cavill looks the same size as Evans was in F4.

As you go through it, you'll see Cavill has a pretty impressive character arc. He goes from cocky playboy to nobile soldier to guilt-ridden old man and it all feels very natural and seemless. At times he is a bit underused, but he's one of the few characters that makes it from start to finish. I'm not entirely sure why, but The Tudors had a tendency to just completely drop characters with no explanation as to why and then have other characters do the things that (historically) the dropped characters did. Still a great show, but one that will leave you scratching your head at times.

Also watching it makes me know that he has that friendly Superman smile that I want to say but he can also completely change just like Superman needs to if he's gonna have a smackdown with a supervillain.
Happy viewing! It's a very entertaining series! Make sure to stick it out to the end; Charles Brandon becomes more interesting in later seasons, and Henry does a very convincing job of growing with the character.
Something I did awhile back Im gonna redo it soon.

The glasses look like they've been filched off Harry Potter, but otherwise really cool! Great job!
Cavill in this type of shape now, gives me ultimate confidence that he will at the very minimum look the part of Superman provided they nail the costume.
I'm pretty sure Henry filmed Immortals before Cold Light of Day, so he's not quite as ripped as this now. The most recent shirtless pics of him would be the beach shots on the CLOD set. He has said (can't think of which interview) that he gains weight pretty quickly when he's not keeping in shape for a role. I've no doubt he'll look the part when it's time.
I agree on all counts. I imagine it has something to do with compressing 20 years or so of history into 38 episodes, but I found it rather amusing actually, save for Charles (Henry), the wheel of fortune on that show did turn maniacally quick, LOL

Yeah, I understood their need to compact some things, but some of the actors and characters they dropped were among the most interesting, like Thomas Cranmer (Hans Matheson) and Francis Bryan (Alan Van Sprang). particularly Bryan... he was such an evil bastard and I was really disappointed to see him evaporate with no explanation.

He is really good in the series. Especially later on when Henry gives he the order to put an end to the uprising of the people. He is a good actor no doubt and has the look but does that mean he has what it takes to be Superman remains to be seen.

Yeah, Cavill doesn't do a whole lot in the first season, but he gets a lot more screentime in the following ones, especially as the Boleyns become more central. Though Henry does have that one awesome scene in the premiere when he's plowing that one guy's daughter and the dude accuses him of stealing her virginity and he's like, "I can assure you, someone was there long before me." lol

Totally agree, JRM would make an awesome Lex. Sadly, that won't happen because WB won't want to make the movie feel like a Tudors rehash, but that seriously would work.
Cavill surely has the physical and rhetorical presence. I dunno if it's an intentional or unintentional thing or if he's just stuck-up or if he's just been on Tudors for too long, but the man really carries himself like a king. He has a very regal way of appearing, like he's of royalty. Often I've suspected him of doing it on purpose as if trying to stick out and make casting directors see Superman in him for a possible future role. Well, in that case it's paid off.

Cool I wil stick with it I watched an episode before I bought it to see if I'd like it and I do. I'm abit hooked on it, my main reason to want to watch was Henry's Charles Brandon character but I'm hooked by all the storylines. I loved when we covered Henry VIII back in history at school (long time ago now) so its good to revisit that.

I'm not please with "how" they had him go about it. The whole complex losing his powers and so forth.
I think the most simple solution is best.
When he is intimate with a woman, some amount of his invulnerability should be temporarily extended to her.

I look at Superman this way, His human abilities are just like ours. walking, running, lifting, breathing, ect...
But when he has to use his powers it's like a turbo switch that turns on in his body. Like when we lift something heavy we physically prepare ourselves better more than we would say picking up a spoon off the table.. Otherwise He would be constantly holding back his superhuman strength, it would be overkill on everything.

We MUST get Lois Lane in a bra at some point!! We were kinda starved in the eye candy for guys in Superman Returns. Kate Bosworth did nothing for me. We now need a hot Lois Lane.
I think Henry Cavill should have a topless scene as well. Especially if he's spent a long time getting in shape.
Although SR had some great effects it was VERY lacking in the script and story department. We need a much more exciting, thrilling story, including a sexed up Clark and Lois!!

This was in todays shortlist
The new Superman's secrets
No.1: He's more powerful than a locomotive
Traditionally cast only to ham it up as villains in Hollywood films, British actors have suddenly become in demand as the good guys. Next year will see Andrew Garfield’s debut as Spider-Man and Christian Bale donning Batman’s cowl for the (possibly) final time in The Dark Knight Rises. You can now add new Superman Henry Cavill to that list, as he’s just been cast in the tentatively titled Man Of Steel. Or you could if you knew who he was. Handily, we’re here to bring you up to speed.
1. Born Henry William Dalgliesh Cavill in Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands, in May 1983, he then moved to mainland Britain to board at Stowe School, situated in Buckinghamshire.
2. The latest Superman reboot isn’t the first time he’s been in the frame for a long-running franchise. Or even the first time he’s been linked with Superman. He narrowly missed out to Brandon Routh on Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns, and was only beaten to Bond by Daniel Craig on the final screen test.
3. More so than most men, Cavill has good reason to resent rival actor Robert Pattinson. Harry Potter fans launched a letter-writing campaign in support of Cavill playing Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, while Twilight author Stephenie Meyer claimed Cavill was her “perfect Edward”. He was usurped by Pattinson who ended up playing both parts.
4. His breakthrough role was in The Tudors playing Charles Brandon, 1st Duke Of Suffolk. Off the back of the show he landed a high-profile modelling contract in Dunhill’s London fragrance advertising, as well as some blockbuster film offers.
5. Cavill claims that if he hadn’t become an actor he would have either joined the Army or gone to university to study ancient history and Egyptology.

Garfield was cast in early July. But I don't recall him immediately talking it up since filming started this past December. He was however making the press rounds for The Social Network and Never Let Me Go that fall. So he was obviously asked about Spider-Man then.
Eh...it's altogether possible they round up a big press conference on the eve of production starting, like they just did with The Hobbit. At the latest, he'll talk it up during the Immortals junkets.

Cavill (and picture) and Snyder on his audition in EW...
http://popwatch.ew.com/2011/02/17/superman-henry-cavill-interview-ew-cover/ (http://popwatch.ew.com/2011/02/17/superman-henry-cavill-interview-ew-cover/)
The new issue of Entertainment Weekly previews the onslaught of box office super-friends about to descend upon us — and it also brings you the first interview with British actor Henry Cavill (The Tudors) since director Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) and producer Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight) tapped him to become Hollywood’s newest Man of Steel. Among the topics of discussion: Cavill’s audition, which included shooting a screen test wearing a replica of Christopher Reeve’s once impressive, now dated Superman suit. “If you can put on that suit and pull it off,” says Snyder, ‘that’s an awesome achievement.” Cavill was feeling less than super in the moment, at least about his ability to fill out the costume: He had just finished shooting a film with Bruce Willis called The Cold Light Of Day, and the part required to him to shed the impressive abs of steel and muscle tone he had put on for the movie he made right before that, the forthcoming mythic fantasy Immortals. As an assistant helped to him put on the Super-suit, Cavill recalls: “All I could think was: Oh, god. They’re going to look at me and go ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going: You’re not ready! You’re not ready!” Snyder saw something — or rather someone — different. “He walked out, and no one laughed,” says the director. “Other actors put that suit on, and it’s a joke, even if they’re great actors. Henry put it on, and he exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go ‘Wow.’ Okay: This was Superman.’”
