This was the scene that told me this will be a great movie. You can see both the frustration with being so weak and the resilience to overcome it in his face. Thats probably the best 2 seconds of acting i've ever seen from Evans. In the scenes after the serum he really surprised me with the way he captured the innocence and good-naturedness of the kid Steve Rogers was before he became a super soldier. Very impressive performances just from the trailer. I like Atwell's no-nonsense demeanor too.
Erskine was perfect.
Almost positive First Avenger will blow Thor out of the water, but hoping Thor surprises me with epicness.I agree. That quick 2 second scene stood out the most for me when I viewed the spot for the first time.

I gotta say that to me, both Cap and Thor look AMAZING. I can't wait for them to come out and I'm not giving higher expectations to either one. I'm just looking forward to two great films from Marvel. I like Kennith Branagh and I like Joe Johnston. It's gonna be a good summer.

Well to be honest Thor's been around for a heck of alot longer than He-man. To ME He-man copied many aspects from Thor and Marvel.
Each are their own movie.

It's not even that. It's that someone can't like one Marvel movie more than another or look forward to a Marvel movie more than another because it's Marvel. Not to mention the very idea that Thor could possibly be a bad a movie is laughable to him. It can still very much go either way. He seems almost appalled by the fact someone thinks Thor looks like crap. I disagree but it's still someone's right to not find any of the trailers or commercials appealing.

Let me explain to you the main point of my post, even though it was three pages ago (since you want to press the issue). I was only saying that someone repeating that they think something looks bad over & over...& over...& over is very useless.
Oh, and yes I do think it's laughable (sue me) that someone thinks Thor is bad when it's shaping up to be exactly what a movie about Thor should be. I thought I made it clear that I don't have a problem with someone saying something bad about Thor, it jus gets old when someone complains about the same movie in every other post (now "good day" sir).

I See Spidey only mentioned her opinion on the subject when it was brought up. Reading your posts the impression I got was "How can anybody say Thor looks bad and Captain America looks good? They're both Marvel. That cannot be." Just because a movie is shaping up to be a perfect depiction of a character doesn't mean that everybody is going to like it. That's the point I was focusing on. It really is a matter of opinion and the subject was 3 pages ago (like that means anything on the hype with how fast these threads move. 3 pages might as well be 3 hours) so I'll forget it but if someone replies to me about it, expect me to reply back. This description sums up my love for pre-serum Steve Rogers. I loved watching Steve crawl through that training course, albeit briefly. Chris played it with a hard frustrated, but determined look. Got some goosebumps watching everyone else plow forward, but this scrawny kid was giving his all just to keep going. To me, that is Steve Rogers. Also, that little moment right after Peggy shot at the shield, with Steve's eyes peeking over it all incredulous and shocked. Pretty much perfect.
And Haley Atwell... I've been gushing about her everywhere. I've seen alot of other geek chick sites that loved the spirit that Atwell's giving Peggy. And I can't talk enough about the awesomeness that is Tucci. The man should be more of a household name.
Whoever described this as a stealth cast in terms of quality nailed it on the head.
Okay... this may have been my 200th post. Now can I include an avi???

Exactly. Fans don't understand that if movies based on superheroes or comic books do well, it will only help the genre as a whole, and fight against stigma that this is just a fad that will be going away soon. I may not like all the superhero movies, but I do hope all of them will do well (unless they are terrible movies like Halle Berry's Catwoman or Shaq's Steel...bleh).

I've voiced most of my reservations about this movie in other threads. But I will say that I liked the Super Bowl ad. It's really what I was expecting to see, and it looks good...for a standard action/adventure flick. Based on the interviews and statements from the director, though, it's hard to believe that it'll be anything more than that. Overall, this feels like Raimi's Spider-Man all over again, for me. I believe that it will be entertaining and make a ton of money, but I'm not as confident that it will be a great Captain America movie.

The one thing that's a bit more difficult to show even quickly is WHY Thor was banished. The Trailer has more time to show than the SB spot, but, since Thor's origin is a bit more involved there's just so much they can show and also show villains involved.
Basically we Fans would know about Thor, but, not the average audience, so show the cooler stuff.

I can't believe there's a debate over which film will be better, or rather rooting for one not to do as well as the other. Everyone wins if they're both successful. Two successful movies would be an awesome jump off point for the Avengers.

Are people really hoping Thor and GL will fail or are they hoping that CA will simply out-perform them? Because if CA turns out to be as good as it looks to be then I would like to see it be the highest grossing superhero movie of the summer. Doesn't mean I want the other two movies to fail. Success for all three would be great for comic book fans...but can't Cap be the most successful of them all? :yay:

Assuming that the fight between Cap and the Red Skull occurs late in the film, and that in the TV spot the reveal of Skull's actual appearance seems to happen during that fight, will we only see Weaving as "The Red Skull" for a small portion of the film?

Well, if you look at the screen grab of the fighting, Steve is wearing the AWOL suit. Perhaps this is where Skull makes the reveal.

Although I think he must've stirred something inside her when she touched him. It's funny when she's enjoying his new physique he seems completely out of it, as one would expect from being totally transformed into an adonis. The nurse's expression was quite comical too.
It looks interesting and a few scenes in which Captain America was running, I thought the suit looked really good. I'm quite impressed how they made Steve Rogers pre-serum look very puny, quite convincingly. They even made him shorter which actually looked authentic on camera. I also really like how Abraham Erskine instills the moral compass for Steve Rogers that will guide him when he becomes Captain America. I always find it fascinating where the protagonist gets their morality from. What steadies them? What keeps them from veering off the edge. Great stuff.
One question and please forgive my ignorance. what sort of role does Colonel Chester Phillips play? Given the type of characters that I've seen Tommy Lee Jones play, he can do 'sinister' quite well. I'm curious as to whether the Colonel because a tough but compassionate mentor for Captain America or does he become an adversary of some kind?

Can I just add in, because I've watched the darn TV spot like, about, 1,879,235,000,000 gabillion times already, I really love that they went with "music" that basically melded with the sound effects of the scenes shown. Like the sound of glass breaking, the sound of the Rebirth chamber, and making that sound like IM's suit. Very little instrumentation. Sounds very mechanical, but I think that served the atmosphere of the spot so well. Better than a generic rock soundtrack would have.

Ohhh god can you imagine if when Captain America and the commandos kicked down the door it started playing ACDC? "DIIIIIRTY DEEEEEDS, DONE DIRT CHEAP!" I like the way they did it too, although a rousing score would be nice for the actual trailer (and movie)

1) I suspect he's only there because he's already been accepted in Project: Rebirth. He still needs to learn what a soldier needs to learn. It's probably also a good way of showing just how much heart Steve Rogers has, despite his frailty.
2)I can deal with it. Still hope for a more classic 616 look come Avengers time. I think it's highly likely he'll have an entirely new suit in the present.

It looks like when Atwell and Scrawney Rogers are standing next to each other, Atwell actually has a much bigger, stronger physique than Rogers.
Did they create like a fully CGI body for Evan's pre Cap state? Cuz the body shots they have of him going into the chamber look so real, or was it some actor double then they superimposed Evan's head on top. If that body is of an actual actor, I'd kinda be embarassed that Atwell is not only much bigger and far stronger looking.

I love that it does seem like we're going to be getting at least two fight sequences involving Steve and the Skull, and who knows how many more with Cap throughout the movie. I never realized how important it is in these comic book movies for the hero and villain(s) to interact throughout the film, but in the comic book movies that rank on my favorites list, they're ones that have some really great hero/villain moments.

It was weird. I posted it right after the Superbowl spot, at like 7:00 am the next day....then after 2 hours, it was up to a 100 views. Next day...600...earlier today, 2,000...took a 50 minute nap, woke up to 26,000! By 7:00 PM, 60,000 views! And on TV!

Congrats! I've watched it... I don't even know how many times already. Also, I saw on Twitter that Andy Diggle and Ed Brubaker RT'd yesterday too. And a few Marvel people did as well. Not to mention AOTS, which is great.
You hit the big time! :awesome:
Edited: because AOTS and AOTC are not the same thing... need coffee.

It's pretty simple... Captain America, F*** Yeah! (not censored, of course)
Anyway CP, congrats on the popularity of this video! I hope you get to a million hits with this thing, because it's pure dynamite! As many have said, I find this trailer in many ways more entertaining than the real thing. I can actually see this getting some good buzz going for the movie that frankly, Marvel and Paramount lack the balls to do on their own (also, the whole FCC thing is a bit of a roadblock, lol). My room mates and all the friends I've shown it to have had a great laugh and they love it. :D
I'm thinking about designing a T-shirt inspired by it. Here's the basic idea, but if I go through with it I'll draw a new picture for it instead of just "borrowing" one of Marvel's. I want the final thing to find the right balance between outrageous and bad ass, much like the video that inspired it.

Reminds me of the time when a video of mine slowly built up to 20K and the next day it had 50K with a load of comments...giving me a boner lol. Got to 250K and got taken down last year though :(

None of the performances really stood out, but we don't have much to judge. Interesting to see "frail Steve Rogers". I thought the pod they used was a bit futuristic...is it that closed structure in the comics? I remember it being just an operation table type thing.
Cap looks great in several shots, and kind of silly in others. As it should be, I suppose. The Red Skull looks fantastic.
What I loved about this trailer, was the voiceover "Not just a soldier...but a good man.". That's the main theme I want to see explored here...what power does to a person, and how they handle the responsibility.

Well, I got my Zazzle page started! Here's a link to where you can buy one of my shirts. A men's large T is $25 (if that seems a little pricey, it's because printing on dark shirts is more expensive).

Do we have official confirmation that the trailer will arrive on the 18?
Microchip
02-13-2011, 07:29 PM
I'm pretty sure the "Trailer's coming on the 18th" talk has all stemmed from the fact that a Disney movie is coming out that day (even though Disney isn't distributing Cap) and the fact that Captain America is listed on a website as being the trailer attached to said movie.
I Am Number 4
Will it be with it? I dunno, people seem to think this trailer website is fairly legit. Don't be surprised either way.

With as much positive feedback the Cap spot received, I'm sure they're going to be in a hurry to get the whole trailer out. I'd say the 18th is a pretty reliable date for it. Gut feeling.
