My problem is that First Class is a reboot disguised as a "prequel".
They are perverting the word "prequel".
Prequels are not meant to contradict original material, if they do, they are not prequels.
Continuity errors happen. Use the force dream defense and explain them away.

They shouldn't be contradicting the continuity of any of the films.
Yeah, I guess you're right, they shouldn't necessarily contradict the last two films, they should just ignore them completely.

Perverting the word prequel? What the hell? Let me guess, you have a problem with people perverting the word "marriage," right? Which, if true, would ironically make you a hell of hypocritical X-men fan, given the theme of the entire series/comics/movies.
Wow....really....since WHEN did i mention marriage? Good job in creating a straw man.

It isn't a reboot, no matter how many supposed continuity errors you may see. This film purports to exist within the same world that the previous films have, in fact, it's banking on it.

Yes Continuity errors do happen. That is something i agree on. But people SHOULD try not to create them, and if they are created they should be small, small enough to fit into existing canon.

I'm sorry but Wolverine was just pure dreck. I hope Vaughn does his best to retcon that abortion.
As for it having continuity issues with The Last Stand I don't really care either way.
I think its clear that Singer and Vaughn are isolating X1, X2 and First Class into their own universe and pretending as if X3 and Origins (thank god) weren't ever an issue. Hopefully thats the case as there is no telling until we actually see the movie I suppose.
I'll consider The Last Stand and Origins as elseworld takes from now on. :)

Really this is the most exciting superhero film trailer i've seen since Watchmen. I liked Kick-Ass last year, but most trailers for the genre have become so by the numbers and formulaic. This looks like so much fun.

That's fine if you don't like them. That doesn't make them non-canon. Some of us do like them, and want to see ALL of the movies have a fluid continuity together.

I am so happy they're ignoring and contradicting both 'Wolverine' and 'The Last Stand'. If it bothers someone that much - which I would have no clue in the world why it would since both films were awful - then just ignore what looks to be possibly the best film in the series, 'First Class', and enjoy Singer's films with those two other piles of crap. It's kind of like a fun game of pick your own path... except there's a correct path and wrong path. I'll give you a hint: the correct path has some Fassbender action.

This movie was barely on my radar before the trailer hit. I'm no big fan of the X-Men or ANY of the previous movies(X1 was passable at best but mostly setup like the pilot of a TV series; X2 was decent but even so I'd hardly go out of my way to rewatch it much; and the other two are just horrible) so there's really been no incentive for me to follow this production beyond the fact that I love Matthew Vaughn as a director. But this trailer just jumped the movie up several notches on my must see list of the year. In fact, it took Green Lantern's spot.
1. Cowboys & Aliens
2. Captain America
3. Thor
4. X-Men: First Class
5. Green Lantern

This looks pretty awesome. Vaughn's a good filmmaker but I still don't trust FOX not to **** things up. Time will tell.
Love the 60's setting, love the X-Men blue and yellow, love the submarine bit at the end (is it the Leningrad, d'ya think? I bet she's going down!).
I see no problems with the fx either.
I don't mind stuff being different from the comics but when they start contradicting previous movies it irks me. FOX can ignore X3 all they want but it'll unnecessarily confuse people and it's lazy and stupid. You can't just bury it in the basement and hope people forget.
Anywho I wasn't expecting much from this trailer but I find myself pleasantly surprised.

I'm thinking she and Beast are in a relationship. Lawrence said Mystique and Charles are friends, and I havent seen anything that suggests a romantic interest between she and Magneto, though I am interested to see how they become so close.

Dude....you just don't understand. Nolan NEVER threw out any canon from the previous batman films.
Nolans batman trilogy is SET IN ITS OWN UNIVERSE. It does not contradict earlier batman films, it is a reboot.
It's just a word.
If Nolan had said that Batman Begins was a prequel to Batman, and thus didn't really make sense, would it make it a bad movie?
If it was the exact same film, but the director used a different choice of word describing it, that would effect the quality of the film or your enjoyment of it?

Wow....so much aggression in this thread. I actually have just read all 11 pages and I now have a headache.
Saw the trailer(this is the right thread for trailer talk right?) and I'm not really sure what to think the cast of muntants while a bit random seems great, Emma in diamond form looks interesting better than XO:Wolverine any ways, Beast looks interesting, and I hate Havoks red plasma blast.
I wish Charles would have been bald but lets face it not everyone can wear a bald head like Stewart. And magneto looks bad ass.
Overall it wasn't a bad trailer though I still have not decided whether I will see it in theaters or not.
And even though no one wants to call this a reboot I have just decided to personally think of it as one, it just makes it easier on my head.

Well, the owners of the rights and those in charge of the current X-Men and Wolverine films obviously do see X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine as continuity since at least one of those films is being used to advertise THIS movie. That just happened to be the best looking pic of a wheel chair they had lying around :yay:
The rightsholders have allowed two directors to take the reins who have heavily implied that those films will not follow continuity (in the case of The Wolverine fully confirmed). That means they are either happy for the continuity to be broken or just don't care (could easily be either in this case :csad:). Why do you think they bought Singer back after their big row? An obvious admission of 'we were doing it right before & then got it wrong. Now we want to go back to doing it right'.
X3 also had deaths of major characters. Nothing wrong with that but don't waste them on a less than stellar film. Whenever you have deaths of the biggest guys that carry no weight you are asking for future guys (& your own studio) to edit you out of the canon. Do you really think there will never be an X-Men film at some point in the future set after X3 that features Cyclops. The only way that could happen is if his death had been a massive film event. Instead it didn't even make it onto film!
Last time I checked, Vaughn didn't say this was in fact an official prequel that will in fact tie into all the other movies. He said something along the lines of keeping some things in(like Mystique's stupid and pointless skin markings)to let people simply enjoy watching them together if they choose to.
By them I'm pretty sure he meant the first two films(IE: Singer's films, the producer on this one).
Nell already pointed out a number of errors regarding First Class in relation to X3 and Wolverine. I highly doubt those last two films were even considered other than throwing a single shot of Prof. X's empty wheelchair from X3 in the trailer. Much like they only showed the back of Ian's head from X1, they didn't want to show his face or Stewart's in a trailer for a film that they're not in. I don't think that shot of the wheelchair meant that this film is going to be a prequel for X3 as well.
Maybe I'm way off the mark, but this is how I feel on the whole matter.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine doesn't really mess with the continuity, no. You're wrong. There are some minor discrepancies, but that's it.
The film seems to take place roughly 20-30 years in the past, as opposed to the 15 that Stryker states in X2.
The escape from the Weapon X facility doesn't look like that of the flashbacks in X2, but it doesn't drastically change the events of those memories.
And that's really about it.

Those minor discrepancies that you mentioned can still be seen as a break in continuity. For me them messing up the Weapon X facility part was a big issue. Not just minor.
Especially when its so shoddily done, not only that but certain additions were pointless and just stupid.
You also seem to be forgetting the most glaring one which is Xavier and Wolverine little meet and greet being added to the movie is another break in continuity as you'd think Prof X would have mentioned this encounter in X1-X3.
I'm not wrong, Origins defintely took liberties with continuity.

Let's review this. Moira's somewhere around her mid-to-late twenties in 1962. In 2005, she looked to be around 40-or-so. Strange! Xavier is crippled and has his fallout with Magneto in 1962, yet over twenty years later, he's walking with His friend Erik to recruit a young Jean Grey. Clearly, 'The Last Stand' is null and void.

My biggest questions about Wolverine have always been -
1.) Where the hell did Scott Summers get ruby quartz glasses?
2.) How would they even keep his blasts in since they're aviators with no sides?
3.) Why does he get detention for wearing them, yet still be allowed to continue wearing them?
Heh, but seriously...
WHY DIDN'T STRYKER SEND HIS MASTER MARKSMAN OUT WITH THE FREAKIN' ADAMANTIUM BULLETS?
What a dumb, lazy movie. And yet, fun to watch. Sorry for the derail.

Imagine a world in which DoomGuy91 matters.
Yeah, he matters big man, he's just talking movies and continuity points, there's no need to be such a condescending jerk to the guy. I'm baffled at what has generated such an egocentric attitude in yourself, as there is nothing noteworthy in your posts i have been reading tonight. I guess in real life you must be some kind of secret agent studmuffin who rubs his stubble against the magic tree swinging from the rear viewmirror of his flying car just to give it that extra special smell for the ladies before he goes out on another mission to save the world, or maybe you're just an average guy with an average income who has had an average amount of relationships in his life, and grew up with posters of cars on his wall he would never be able to afford, so takes his secret agent ambition frustrations out on posters on the internet he disagrees with, in an effort to make himself feel a little more than average.
anyway...X3 and Wolverine should not be ignored as a point of principle, like it or not they are part of the film series, but I am not such a stickler for continuity that I don't mind certain points being ignored for the sakes of a better story being told in the prequel. eg short flashbacks like Xavier using his legs, or Moria McTaggart being used for a useless cameo, same with EF in XMOW.

Um... excuse me??? Way to generalize there man. Awesome job.
As for the rest - if a director wants to do -his- version and not have to worry about another director's vision, maybe he shouldn't be making a movie in a series that already has 4 movies worth of existing continuity.
I have a vision in my head of what I want to make. Now you go make it.
Time to remove the weak links in the chain. Or, maybe crappy directors shouldn't be making movies?
You just proved my point. You want a new movie trying to reinvigorate a dying franchise to pull along those smelly dead carcasses of a movie with it until this whole series drops dead. If you can't see that Wolverine was an awful movie, look at the declining box office. Look at all the critical and fan responses.
Give this movie a chance to bring back the quality of this franchise out of the gutter instead of demanding that all of these movies be perfectly sync with each other. HAHA even Aranofsky, Jackman, and Fox know they made a crappy movie because they aren't even going to acknowledge Origins. That says something. That says something that The Wolverine won't be a sequel to Origins.

Yes they did use brief shot of Xavier's wheelchair from last Stand but notice
the footage of Patrick Stewart and Ian Mckellan they used at begining was clearly from first X-Men.Considering what magneto does at end of trailer
pulling sub out of water. The fact they didn't use a shot of Magneto from the moving bridge from Last Stand but used him moving cop cars from first film Is

I wouldn't quite agree with this. Remember that Thor and Captain America only had 30 seconds to tell you exactly what the film was about and include lots of tasty scenes.
I would definetly say the Red Skull scene is a money shot and Thor destroying the floor with one smash of Mjolnir is a money shot.

It's not because they were great movies. It's people who are somewhat OCD, and since FC is an extension of that universe, it's knowing how all those pieces fit together. And if some person wanted to watch all movies in this universe in sequential order one day, it makes sense.
That's why I hate the general ideas of prequels. Star Wars is proof of that. Just give us a reboot.

Prequels are just more of a challenge to make then sequels. But when done right they are great.
After all Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was a prequel to Raiders. And that wasn't a bad movie imo.

Can you explain it to me?
Jeez, ok, here goes. Your big beef is with the semantics surrounding the words prequel and reboot. Your big beef, as you said, is that they're "perverting" the word prequel. Which, if you really take stock of what the movie is trying to do, is a bit silly. Anyway, the main drum being beaten by those against gay rights are that they're "perverting the word marriage." I made the connection because in the same way you're pissed off about the word "prequel" losing its purity, anti-gay activists are likewise pissed off about the word "marriage" losing its so-called purity. I was being somewhat facetious, and somewhat serious. I don't really know which side of the fence you fall on for that. The reason it's relevant here, is that for a long long time, X-Men has been an allegory/parable/etc of the fight for gay rights. At one time it was an allegory for the fight for civil rights in general, especially racially, but for several decades that has shifted towards the battle for gay rights, both in the comics, and especially in the movies (not a big coincidence that the director happens to be gay.) Get what I'm saying? If you don't, I'm happy to elaborate further.

It's not because they were great movies. [...] if some person wanted to watch all movies in this universe in sequential order one day, it makes sense.
this is it in a nutshell for me, I don't mind cameos and not so big things being tossed out in the name of a better story in a prequel, I just want to be able to roughly follow all the movies in one go. I don't mind ignoring the fact Xavier can walk in the X3 flashback if that contradicts FC, because i can just blip over it and say, ok, let's say he had a wheelchair in that scene.', or say to myself that Moria McTaggart was older in her X3 scenes, or that Beast had an image inducer in X2, or Emma Frost was a different character in Wolverine.

I really don't want to start any sort of a DC/Marvel quarrel at all,i equally like both and i'm eager to see both Green Lantern and X-Men First Class but as a comparison and a clear sign how well the trailer has been received,GL's trailer has 1,885,991 views on youtube in 2 months...X-Men's trailer has 1,918,109 views in one day.
Not releasing the trailer at the SuperBowl has turned out to be a very smart move because it has received the attention all to itself in the last 24 hours and beyond.I don't think a 30 second tv spot would have made any sort of an impression upon the audience especially considering the amount of commercials and tv spots, and the fact it was in middle of an incredibly anticipated game.
Oh,and it saved them $3 millions:woot:.

Great, glad I could be of service. Just chill a little bit about the definition of a prequel, and I think you'll enjoy things quite a bit more. It's a fluid industry, film, with a lot of stuff on the line, and a lot of things that director's can't control. Certainly you can understand if a director coming in wants to make the best movie possible, right? And if that means keeping some things that were good for the series, and letting go of some things that were bad for the series, as long as he's trying to make the best movie, right now, then that can't possibly be bad, right? I promise you that Singer and Vaughn aren't changing continuity just to screw with you, I'm almost positive they're thinking "how can we make the best movie possible, while keeping as much as we can, but not letting the bad stuff hold us back from doing good things with the franchise?"

Well, I can't do anything about thier quality, if they want to remake X3 I am all for it, but until then, it's just ...when I am finished watching X1 and 2(and hopefully FC will be as good), I will still want to watch a little more live action X-Men, and the two not-so-good ones still have their moments, the showdown at Jean Grey's house, Wolverine doing his Steve McQueen, Liev's Sabretooth...
I'd say X3 has as much of a drop off quality as ROTJ does to ANH and ESB, it happens unfortunately, creative quality can slip in these types of film series, it's not like comics where we can just brush past a crap arc, and go on to the good ones.

Oh Nell. You better call up Aronofsky and tell him that his movie has to be in continuity with Origins for his movie to be good.
Enjoy this movie for what it is. Don't sit in the theater angry that Emma Frost is older in this movie than she is in Origins.
Making a sequel that doesn't continue an ongoing story arc from the previous movie is completely different from making a sequel that completely throws out the continuity of the first movie.
I think we all knew from the get go that the Wolverine sequel wouldn't be a continuation of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, considering that it was going to adapt Logan's Japan storyline, which has nothing to do with X-Men Origins: Wolverine or X-Men. It's simply put a stand alone Wolverine movie. That doesn't mean it's going to "throw out" or contradict X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Man, the more I see that SR-71 the more I go "wtf". Not only is it incredibly more spatious than a real SR-71, which I can life with since that's the only way to have a group of people inside of it, but it has VTOL capabilities (It can "float" in mid air by applying thrust vertically - you can see the heat distortion under the SR71 when the sub is being pulled out of the water) AND it can use VTOL while the main engines are still running!
Unless the whole idea is that magneto is both holding the plane in place and pulling the sub up, which just isn't translating visually at all. What I'm getting is that the plane is floating, magneto is anchoring himself on the plane and pulling the sub up, like a rescue helicopter would do. God damnit, post production, can't you get anything right :P

Agreed, the real one never had VTOL capabilities. I think the x-men stole one then modified it or the CIA gave it to them for 'operational reasons'. So that makes me wonder why the president didn't know about the x-jet in X2.

Agreed, the real one never had VTOL capabilities. I think the x-men stole one then modified it or the CIA gave it to them for 'operational reasons'. So that makes me wonder why the president didn't know about the x-jet in X2.
Well, we don't know where the craft came from. I can't imagine that the X-Men would steal it. One thing we know for sure, the X-Men have always had more advanced technology than anyone else.

And even though the submarine shot is awesome, my favorite spot is Fassbender making the guy stab himself. Just, fantastic.

MCavoy delivers his line with emotion, think he's gonna do well. Of course with his opposite number Fassbender there was never any doubt!
Well, James is a wonderful actor by himself. So I would say that the opposite actor benefits as much or even more that he does. Forest Whitaker never got that amount of awards for The Last King of Scotland by acting solo; almost all of his scenes were opposite James.

There's a difference between watching it to see if it appeal to them or actually liking it and them seeing it when it's released. Right now, they're just numbers that don't really indicate how well it's going to do at the box office. I know it's not what we're saying, but we'll see how it goes.
Putting it on Facebook was a brilliant idea and got the word out there. Let's hope it caught alot of people's attention and they'll all see it.

It's an interesting trailer, and there were a lot of scenes that looked neat, enough of them to warrant a trip to the theater, and yet I won't be counting the days until it arrives, or waiting on the edge of my seat for more footage. Of the trailers so far Captain America's teaser has me the most amped. Thor being the next most exciting. This is somewhere below them. My biggest problem, outside of the glarring differences between it and the comic, is that Professor Xavier and Magneto have the potential to be the most boring characters. They also could be the most interesting, but it's a fine line and this trailer walks it. Sometimes I found myself very engaged, like the scene with Hank McCoy flipping, or the X-Jet action sequences, and then other times I'm like "meh". I really dig that for the first time an X-Men trailer feels like a comic book and I can't stress that enough. Not once, unlike the Singer movies, or even the sequels, did I feel I was watching an attempt to pigeonhole a comic book into something it isn't. Vaughn clearly knows how to make the absurdities of the comic world translate to screen, however it might be too little too late for the X-Movies, we'll see.

(Is the hype laggy as hell today?)
Oh, but I'm not concerned about it! Only responding to it here in a thread I'm subscribed to as people are using it to smother the awesomeness of the trailer. :woot: I don't care what they do either way that might contradict (or not contradict) those films!! Win Win for me!! :yay:
Don't know about the Hype, but my cold is really making me lethargic. Oh well. Hey it's all cool about the continuity :) we were having this prolonged discussion about what works and what doesn't, and how they could resolve the matter (or not). Just figured we'd leave that discussion for the designated thread. Didn't mean to be preachy or nothin :)
Man, the more I see that SR-71 the more I go "wtf". Not only is it incredibly more spatious than a real SR-71, which I can live with since that's the only way to have a group of people inside of it, but it has VTOL capabilities (It can "float" in mid air by applying thrust vertically - you can see the heat distortion under the SR71 when the sub is being pulled out of the water) AND it can use VTOL while the main engines are still running!
It's obviously a modified SR-71, but I wouldn't be surprised if they added the VTOL capabilities. I'm a little surprised to be honest, I expected to see the jet from X1 - the one with the forward-swept wings, it was smaller and the VTOL was featured prominently! I don't remember what the model was, but this blackbird-inspired design is clearly from the X2, not X1. Just saying.
Agreed, the real one never had VTOL capabilities. I think the x-men stole one then modified it or the CIA gave it to them for 'operational reasons'. So that makes me wonder why the president didn't know about the x-jet in X2.
Maybe because in this reality Beast is the one who made it? I don't know, just throwing ideas. And the reason they didn't recognise the X-Jet is because it was probably unmarked/unknown to the field agents at the time. Besides, it was a different President altogether. I'd like to think that most of the dirty secrets from the Cold War remains hidden. If conspiracy theories prevail that is.
Im already more excited for this.
I started excited for Thor, then a bit for Cap. but now, Im all for X-men.
My fave comic since day one.
I know :D I'm still excited about Thor because of Branagh, but this one is just so much more promising. X-Men are the best Marvel characters to date!

I believe it's a manequin that'll be used as a dummy in a very early Danger Room. We see Havok in the room in another scene with the dummy on fire. Also, Banshee, Magneto, Xavier and Havok are all wearing similar sweats. So I assume they have a training session in there. In the scene where they're watching JFK, Magneto has a gun - I also have a theory on that: he's training himself against gunfire.
The manaquin was probably something Charles' mother used to keep her dresses on or something. Very easily explained.

Its a random line up. They want to use popular characters that havnt been seen yet and work them in so they fit the flicks story. Unfortunately were gonna lose that comic continuity cause of it. There gonna start running out of new fan favorite Xmen to use soon. If the movies solid then I dont think Havoks continuity will matter much, better then forcing the fact there brothers in the script when the filmakers know it wont work. But yeah probably shouldve waited to use the character. Well see.

There really was no main character in X2. That film had numerous points of view. His backstory was just a large part of the ensemble.
You had Rogue and Iceman's story. You had Stryker's story. You had Jean and Logan's story. You had Jean's story. You had Nightcrawler's story. You had Logan's story. You had X and Erik's continuing story. You had Storm's mini-character arc with Nightcrawler.
X2 is a true ensemble film. Hell, the first film is a dual storyline with Rogue and Wolverine as the leads.

Ok...i just can't seem to stop watching the teaser! before the teaser hits, this was my least anticipated CBM ..and now, it replaced cap as my most anticipated CBM movie this year.
Ok..now for some noobish questions; i've only recently started to read the x-men comics again, mainly because of the messiah storyline, and some of the characters in this teaser i don't really know for sure.
1. the red, nightcrawler looking guy..who is he?
2. the girl with butterfly wings...i'm hoping it's not the movie version of pixie...and i also seems to recall a character like that from the Morrison run...forgot her name and what her powers are.

Nightcrawler's father, Azazel.

Angel Salvadore. Originally, fly-like wings with sonic vibration abilities, acid spit and insectoid physiology. Currently, Technologically granted ice generation from her left hand and heat/fire generation via her right hand, in addition to artificial flight.

^^ Wow! thanks , proto! Now i'm sure i've never heard of Azazel before...didn't even knew that Kurt has a demonic father. And yeah..now i remember Salvadore, and her powers too. Glad it's not movie version of Pixie.
Another relief is the fact that the overall reception of the teaser has been positive so far!

Azazel's Biography:
Azazel claims that many years ago an ancient horde of demonic mutants from biblical times called the Neyaphem were in an epic battle with a group of angelic over-zealous mutants, named the Cheyarafim. They were victorious in the battle and vanquished the "evil" mutants to an alternate dimension for all eternity. The Neyaphem's leader, Azazel, was the only one who was able to breach the dimensional void for brief periods of time due to his teleportation powers. His only hope to return to earth was by impregnating women because his children are linked to his dimension.
About twenty years ago, Azazel began mating with women who had strange appearances, at least with looks and abilities other women didn't have. He met Mystique in Germany, at the time she was married to a rich castle lord named Baron Christian Wagner, who was unable to give her children. When Mystique was introduced to Azazel, whom Christian knew as a business partner, she had an instant attraction to him. Although she was hesitant to betray Christian, she gave in to Azazel and they made love. Not much later, Mystique was pregnant with Nightcrawler. While Mystique had actually fallen in love with Azazel, he seemed only to be interested in impregnating her, but, in truth, Azazel found himself actually loving Mystique, making her the only woman he ever truly loved. Shortly after his "mission" was complete, Azazel left Mystique, knowing that she would be safe being the woman that she was.
Soon afterward, Mystique killed Christian and buried his body because he suspected her betrayal. A few months later, Mystique gave birth to a child. Due to the shock and the strain of the boy’s difficult delivery, Mystique lost concentration and accidentally revealed her true form. Considered a demon, Mystique was chased away by an angry mob. Barely escaping, she tossed the baby down a ravine. The child was teleported away, apparently by Azazel, and given into Margali Szardos’ care. Azazel had past relations with women before, resulting in the births of Abyss and Kiwi Black.
Azazel sired several dozen other children, who were all mysteriously called to gather and sacrifice themselves on the island known as the Isla Des Demonas. Doing this would open a portal and bring his army to earth to destroy the Cheyarafim, allowing the demonic mutants to live in the world and find their place in it. The mutant children worked together in a zombie-like state and opened the portal to Azazel's dimension, but the X-Men had followed Kurt to see where he was going and jumped into the portal. Once inside, Azazel took great pleasure in toying with the team, having them believe that he was actually Satan.
In the end, Azazel was not able to free the Neyaphem because the portal had to be opened in an area where Cheyarafim blood could not be found. Archangel was present at the time and as such the portal was destroyed. Azazel vanished in grief and has not been seen since.
In recent times it has been rumored that Azazel actually is a demon, or at least holds the blood of one. Many mystical beings such as Mephisto and Blackheart have made slight references to the leader of the Neyaphem to be much more than he seemed and had a strange set of 'ties' to mortals. Though Mephisto has openly stated that Azazel possesses a great strength unattainable by true demons.

Even if it is kind of iffy, it would explain how Kurt can move through dimensions.

the only aspect where they didnt think about the fans is with the decision of using Havok before Cyclops, and not making them brothers.
Thats my only concern with them. :(
I don't think that's much of a big deal, I mean for all we know they could still be related. The X-franchise seems to be sympathetic to these familial connections, especially so if it's got a soap-opera flair to it (I don't mind it, I'm too subjective to the comics to have an issue with it, haha).
Even if Havok isn't used as his brother (which is more likely) I think I kinda like the fact that at least visually we have characters that remind us of older, established, muties from the trilogy. Havok's the equivalent to Cyclops (though Hank seems to embody it in terms of personality). Fassbender's lone-wolf attitude makes me think if the writers were in dire need of a Wolverine replacement...and probably found a better character.
Scott only got screwed in the Last Stand. I watched X-Men for the first time in a long while and I think Scott's well represented in that film.
And the entire climax of X2, from an emotional level, is all about Scott and Jean. People seem to forget that.
It's a lie I tell you! I lie! While I still think that I like Scott the best in X2, he's supposed to be the damn leader of the X-Men, and the entire plot of X2 ditches him. I get that with him the entire alliance might have been tampered with, Logan's the rule breaker, the one who's more willing to give people the benefit of doubt, and Scott's monolithic by-the-book mind would've instantly gone hostile against the Brotherhood anyway. I get why he was ditched in the plot. But his entire charactersiation seemed to be one of mourning, not one of leadership.
Unlike most, I happened to have enjoyed Superman Returns and I what I saw there is that Bryan Singer is the kind of director who explores the emotional qualities of his characters. In that regard Cyclops did have a good role. But overall, he was underplayed for Wolverine, who clearly had a more potent emotional arc.
I used to be hopeful that X3 would be Cyclops' own story. But I was hopeful for a lot of things in X3. I also used to be hopeful for a stand-alone Cyclops film. A fan can dream can't he?
Slightly off topic guys but how the heck is Fox still being allowed to make X-Men films when Disney owns all of Marvel....same with Sony on Spider-Man?
I've never seen a definitive answer on the subject yet.
cause before disney bought marvel, marvel sold the filmrights to several studios...disney cant do anything about it...
This. The only exception is Universal's deal with Hulk. Marvel Studios managed to have retrieved the rights just in time for that franchise. But does Disney and Paramount have distribution rights for Fox/Sony produced films? Or does that vary from film to film?
Empathy by Henry Jackman. If you find a version that's not a low quality rip from the trailer please let us know.
Please do.
And yes, I too can't stop watching the trailer :D It's X-Mania from out of the blue!

Demons.....really? Although mystical stuff like that is fine in comic book continuity...i DON'T want to see it in the movie continuity.
Supernatural creatures SHOULD be left out of the X-men movies. After all if Demons exist in the X-men movie universe, then perhaps so does heaven, hell, angels, and even God. Those things should be left ambiguous, never confirmed or denied.
I hope Azazel in First class just turns out to be a mutant human, who's mutation makes him look like a "stereotypical" demon.

Pretty sure that's what we're getting
I love the trailer and I have no doubt that this is going to be a kick ass movie!
The only thing that could be better is the mystique morph. I mean I think it looks better than in other X movies, but I hoped that they would animate a bit her hair when morphing. But then again, with so little time, better to do the other effects right. This is just a small detail, but I just had to get it out...

Since someone asked for it earlier, here's the vid that was referred:Thanks
Well, James is a wonderful actor by himself. So I would say that the opposite actor benefits as much or even more that he does. Forest Whitaker never got that amount of awards for The Last King of Scotland by acting solo; almost all of his scenes were opposite James.Yeah, we've got some good leads! Sounds like they're working well together, from what Fassbender is saying.

when x men 3 had the angel character with angel wings is it really that far fetched to feature any sort of demon when movie universe has had people who can fly, teleport, control metal, read minds, kill you be touch, turn into metal, shape shift, etc.

Um....dude....that wasn't an "Angel". That was just a mutant who had huge white wings, and was nicknamed angel. That's why i had no problem with him, he was no supernatural "Angel".

That's Frank Quitely's art. He won multiple awards for drawing marshes and mellows... in fact, most of the designs on this film bears a lot of resemblance to his artwork:

In fact, it used to be that when he DIDN'T draw faces that his artwork was even remotely cool:
http://1979semifinalist.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/043-frank-quietly.jpg
But he's improved lately, his work in All-Star Superman has it's own quality and works well within the context of the story.

this is not the batman franchise where everything is grounded
it is grounded somewhat but still has its sci/fantasy elements

Magneto won't be boring. It's virtually impossible... especially with Fassbender in the role.
Magneto has definitely been a boring villain in the comics from time to time, especially when he is written as 'the good guy', but I'm more worried about McAvroy's Xavier being boring. I think Fassbender is the better actor of the two.
