You see, I start Nightfill for the first time in my life this weekend. 00:00-8am both Saturday and Sunday. Lately I've been falling asleep at 10:30 and waking up at 6:30 so it's a bit of a change.
Does anyone who works nightfill have any tips for staying awake or getting to sleep during the day before I start on Saturday?

I wait for the Aliens....
But seriously, I cant sleep. Not at night...i'm a night owl. I can think better at night, I can function better at night...it's just relaxing to me.
But if I HAD to stay awake, i'd use 5 hour energy. Stuff works great. I love it.

I think the Americans call it the night shift. Working at night. Sorry, I'm Australian :yay:

Getting to sleep during the day: Usually I'm exhausted to the point that neither the sun nor a rock concert in the next room could keep me awake. I do have melatonin and ZMA on hand to help knock me out though.

Monster and Adderall (although the latter is perscription, and I pretty much only break it out when I need to concentrate on schoolwork since it's a neural stim and makes me buzzy).

Paint your room a dark blue or get dark curtains. I used to work the graveyard shift and when I did that, it made my mind think it was night and I was able to sleep easier. And staying awake a snickers bar and a pepsi. Better than a redbull.

Night shift or graveyard shift are the common terms in the US

I just will myself to stay up and just sleep more during the day. It's really not that hard to change your sleep schedule.

I think of various things like making fun of Jason Voorhees and why Peyton Manning posts here as Marx.

Don't go to sleep Thursday night. So you will sleep Friday during the day and be up by Saturday morning.

Stay up the night before and get blackout curtains for your bedroom. The first week usually sucks the most but if you can get past that you're normally ok. If you can make sure you try to stay on that schedule when you're off work as well.

This is actually the best way to do it. In fact I did that a couple of weeks ago to reset my sleeping schedule.

Buy room darkening shades. It's a big help for trying to sleep during the day.

Have a baby, then you're up all the time... at least for about 3 months. :)

Cheers for the info everyone. I had a bit of a sleep before going into work and I had lots of energy rich food. Now I've got one more night of it and then I can go back to sleeping during the night! woo!

Adderall. Though I don't recommend you use that as a wake-up aid. And I don't really use it to stay awake, it's more an unfortunate side-effect (I've had a prescription for years on account of ADD). Coffee doesn't really keep me awake these days even if I have it late.
Watch the horrific coverage on the news right now. That will keep you up for hours. :csad:

Keep your mind busy. If you don't have anything to think about, it's very easy to just drift off.

It's ironic you should say that. You see, I'm a media monitor. It's my job to watch the news all the time.

It's weird for me. I can get super tired for a certain point in time, but if I don't go to sleep in that time I won't fall asleep.
