I just read a report of the event and Terry Funk inducted him.
I know he was going in (and I'm looking forward to hearing that speech on the dvd set), it just never made it on television. Hell, the video they posted online was very well done for the PG era, showed a vicious Abby without getting all gory.

Just read this:
-- Underneath The Undertaker vs. Triple H match in the official WrestleMania program is the tag line "Nothing Else Matters."
Interesting to note that that's the name of a Metallica song, though I don't think that they'd use that one for Triple H.

"Nothing Else Matters" is merely HHH's opinion of what happens with wrestlers other than himself.

Yes, the vid was very well done. I'm happy that this happened during Abby's lifetime. He's stated several times that he wanted to be in the HOF but I was concerned that at his advanced age, he might not live to see his induction.

Its possible. I think Punk is probably like a sponge when it comes to wrestling. You can tell which guys he really gravitates towards as influence but I think he's probably learned from every great promo he's every heard.
I hear a little bit of Raven, Foley, Roberts, and a few other guys in his promos. The cool thing about him is that he takes all that and makes it all his own. Unlike the Miz who is just trying to do warmed over Rock half the time.
Yeah Punk has always seemed like a student of the game, Miz is clearly a life long fan as well, it will be interesting to see if he can evolve.
Nothign wrong with that. I think Rey and Cody or Punk and Orton could deliver strong matches...and HBK alone now has me interested in what exactly will happen during HHH vs Taker.
It was that Triple H/Taker/HBK promo and the big finish with The Rock and Cena that laid both matches wide open, too add to the Cody/Rey and Sheamus/Bryan matches that hooked me in, dammit! lol.
:lmao: Great now i'm trying to picture him in a sweatervest and khakis.
Pete Gas should do a run in and be revealed as Miz long lost brother. :D
I sometimes forget how diverse CM Punk's indy career was before he caught his break in WWE. He feuded with most of TNA's current young guns and he had a verbal feud with Steamboat. Makes me wonder what the scene would be if he ever buys TNA.
Vince: Joe, this is CM Punk
Punk: Um, Vince I already know Joe pretty well, in fact we had MOTY honors in 2004.
Vince: , that's cool....have you met AJ?
CM Punk: Yeah, I wrestled him too
Vince: Oh well, gentlemen I'll just leave you to it....
It makes me chuckle when I think of it like that
The only thing is Joe and AJ would be called something else now that they'd be part of the WWE universe. :csad:

cut to Monsoon, ranting about how nobody cares loooooool Agreed, lol Loved those times. I started watching Wrestling 1996/early 1997. Shawn, Austin, Rock, and Undertaker were the ones that really got me, though, the Rock didn't really get extremely popular until 1999. my msot memorable Shawn Michaels moment (and one of my earliest) was probably his match with Austin at WM 14.

Yeah that was definitely surreal to see and you have to feel it at least a little bit to because you know the trial and tribulations these two have gone through. There's almost like this father/son bond between them. What's interesting in the HOF report is that after Hunter tells some jokes he gets choked up aswell.

That was a great line , I thought it was hilarious he brought that back for his retirement speech on RAW .... I started watching sometime in the early 90's and really took notice to Shawn after that but I hated his gimmick as a face character. Jesse Ventura Speaks on WMania and His Wrestling Future
by Nick Paglino
Thanks to Chris Yandek for sending in the following:
In a new interview with CYInterview.com, Governor Jesse Ventura says he wasn't invited to WrestleMania this year. He says he would love to get back into movies and doesn’t rule out the possibility of returning to professional wrestling. He also speaks about his relationship, today, with his former boss Vince McMahon of the WWE.
“Wrestling, I doubt that would ever happen. The answer that I always give to that is certainly I’d go back to wrestling if Vince puts the decimal point in the right place…I probably speak with him [Vince McMahon] maybe once every couple of years, maybe for whatever reason we may talk or something could come up or we communicate. No. WrestleMania is tomorrow. He didn’t call me to do anything in that and I didn’t expect him to at all. So you know, but who knows? I’ve learned at age 59 that you never say never.”
With talk of Donald Trump, who has appeared with WWE, possibly running for president, Governor Ventura weighs in on he makes of it. Jesse considers “The Donald” a friend of his. However, he does not think Trump is serious about running, but if he is, he has one piece of advice for him.
“I don’t think Donald’s serious. I know Donald and I consider “The Donald” a friend of mine. But I think Donald just does it ‘cause he likes the spotlight and he knows that if he shakes and rattles about running for President and all that, he’ll get tremendous publicity out of it and Donald likes that. He likes to be in front of a camera…The thing Donald’s got to do though if he runs for President, you know the one thing he needs to do, which will shut up the media, shave his head. He’s got that God awful comb over and that’s all the media ever talks about. That’s what they nail Donald on every time is his hair.”
Having dedicated his latest book 63 Documents The Government Doesn’t Want You To Read to Congressman Ron Paul, CYInterview.com asked the former governor if he would consider running as a vice-presidential candidate with Ron Paul, who has run for the presidency in the past. Jesse said he would give it very serious consideration if Ron Paul would run as an Independent and quit the Republican Party.
“If Ron Paul would quit the Republican Party and run as an Independent and if he came to me and said, ‘Governor Ventura, would you be my vice president?’ I would give it very, very serious consideration. Absolutely…The only problem is, maybe Ron and I would have to flip a coin to see who would be President…I wouldn’t mind the VP job because then see, I could still go down to the Baja (editor’s note: Ventura spends about half the year in Baja California in Mexico.)”
You can read the write up and listen to the entire close to 50 minute interview with Jesse Ventura at the link discussing many more topics on politics, professional wrestling and more:
http://www.cyinterview.com/2011/04/former-gov-jesse-ventura-on-latest-book-wikileaks-rwandan-genocide-libya-federal-budget-deficit-obama-trump-ron-paul-running-wrestling-more/.

I dunno...to give us a GOOD announcer??? I doubt Vince feels he needs him but Ventura was a better announcer than everybody in WWE right not not named Jim Ross.
MAYBE he's the one guy that could actually make Cole sound like somebody worth listening to the same way JBL did?
Jessie would ask for a lot but...hey...Vince loves celebrity. He's payed lesser ones to work for him.
The fact that Jessie came back to Raw and announced for WWE after a 15 + year layoff and STILL did it better than most of the people there now really says it all.
Vince would never hire him because he can't intimidate Ventura and feels that announcers don't matter.
The announce pool is as shallow as Eugenes kiddie pool so if they stuck Ventura with Grisham or another young announcer Theres a good chance they'd learn from it. Not a lot of guys around now to teach them besides JR.
WWE Superstar Knocks LayCool's Speech for Sunny, Sheamus Speaks, Jericho
By Marc Middleton (cramtechnologies@gmail.com)
Apr 3, 2011 - 7:45:03 AM
- Sheamus was interviewed by Brian Fritz of BetweenTheRopes.com this weekend at Axxess and guaranteed a main event spot at WrestleMania next year:
- Chris Jericho was hanging out with WWE fan and American Idol contestant James Durbin yesterday at the Rainbow restaurant in Los Angeles.
- Several readers who attended the WWE Hall of Fame last night have noted to us how bad Layla and Michelle McCool's induction speech for Sunny was.
John Morrison compared LayCool's speech to Jersey Shore star The Situation's recent bomb at the Donald Trump roast with the following on Twitter: "Lay-Cool's induction speech at Hall of Fame = the Situation at the Trump roast."
:hehe: Could it really have been THAT bad? Now I have to see it. Of course we've all known for over a year that these two should be kept as far away from a live mic as possible.
I thought ALL the Divas would be saying something? But once again Laycool is center stage

YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE THE WORD WWE WILL STOP USING GOING FORWARD
by Mike Johnson (mike@pwinsider.com) @ 9:50 AM on 4/3/2011
World Wrestling Entertainment has issued an internal edict that the word "Wrestling" will no longer be used in any way, shape or form by the company. Seriously.
The edict includes all mentions of the word and even the company's own name, as all promotional material will be branded as simply WWE, not "World Wrestling Entertainment." Everything from the company's posters to their books to the commentary will fall under the new rule, which was put into place a week ago.
The company edict is a branding decision to attempt to move the company forward as a full fledged entertainment machine, as opposed to a wrestling company, as well as continue to distance themselves from any other entities running nationally

Not really surprised but still...
And yet their biggest event is STILL called Wrestlemania. What to do?
Knowing how Vince usually responds to these things I'm sure he'll say something like this:
http://shallwedine.com/vMcMahon.jpg
"Wrestlemania doesn't mean wrestling anymore. When people think of that name its come to take on its own meaning. 'Wrestling' isn't the first thing to register our audiences minds when they think about Wrestlemania"

The same thing Randy Orton looks at.

A modern day Pagliacci story

Any idea who was under the Doink make up?
I'm assuming it was Matt Osborne. I really didn't go talk to him; I'm not a huge fan, and would have felt compelled to buy something I didn't want out of pity.
probably....I highly doubt its going to affect the bottom line in any way...if you look at the WWE fans, the hardcore fans or what is left of them represent less than 10 percent of the actual wwe audience
Wouldn't it be something if ten years from now TNA is the place to go to for wrestling and WWE is this weird live show where guys that hate wearing pants settle their differences via badly choreographed fists fights and the occasional pg battle rap.

There are a lot of unhappy WWE superstars tonight, as WrestleZone can exclusively report that several agent-producers had to give the bad news to talent today that some matches had to be shortened after the show was reviewed by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.
Cena vs The Miz, with the obvious involvement of The Rock, has been given more time, according to a key insider with knowledge of the Wrestlemania script, and HHH and Undertaker have a "soft" time which will be finalized during the day tomorrow.

WWE has revived the old WCW.com (http://www.wcw.com/) website to commemorate the ten year anniversary of WWF buying the company from Time-Warner. They have an interview with Chavo Guerrero discussing being the last WCW talent still under the active roster.
You know, I didn't ever realize he was the last active wrestler from WCW. That just seems weird, even though it is a decade later and reasonable.
As for Wrestlemania's new name, ENTER-MANIA!

I was at a toy convention today and Doink the Clown had a table set up (the Con didn't even promote it, like they did with Slaughter about a year ago).
I felt very bad for him, nobody was patronizing his table at all. It was a sad sight; I kept looking around to see if Darren Aronofsky was filming this, but alas no.
Matt Bourne or some douche in a Doink mask?
I'd make fun of him on tonight's show, but I won't be on. Plus he might know where I live.

It'll be funny because WWE will probably still have a lot of fans and TNA will probably still be number to. If WWE does go that way they'll try to condition their audience to keep as many as possible watching. Then theres always the new kids who will watch.
Id love for TNA to get their **** together and become widely known because I believe they have the better wrestlers
The talent pool? Its about the same. TNA wrestlers just get a little more freedom with in ring moves and promo wise. TNA seems to push a slightly more high risk/high impact in ring product right now.
Think about how many of the younger talents have gone from TNA to WWE or vice versa or who have gone back and forth.
They have a chance to be a true alternative to WWE. A wrestling company that for better and for worse is not ashamed to be a wrestling company. They'll never be the juggernaut that WWE is but they can still be successful.

that part usually means you go out of business
I'm wondering what matches will get lose time? And for what on a four hour show?
The first 20 minutes usually singing and rundown bull. Last 15 minutes is cut short, because we can't have a real 4 hours. There will be several bull skits to get some guys some paychecks. More rundown bull. So, in total, you have about an hour and a half/two hours for matches. Most if which will go to the main events.

I think they should concentrate on being different in some areas and most of all being the best company they can be. Leaving WWE and competing against them out of the equation entirely.
Theyre will always be a small minority of die hard fans who prefer wrestling but I do have to wonder as more and more time passes how much of the general audience has been conditioned to accept only one thing when it comes to pro wrestling.
Thats certainly one thing to think about when considering how far TNA will grow and how big they can get.

The retardation levels are nuclear.

To me that just goes to show you how badly they misused the WCW talent, and their failure to sign the big names that were a part of WCW. It makes what Sting said the otherday in the Daily Star interview make that much more sense.
And I find it so ridiculous that WWE has made a ban against the term 'wrestling'
that's what Vince set out to do...and it's pretty much done...I think him buying and dismantling WCW validated his ego to the point where he thinks or believes that people will define what professional wrestling and sports entertainment is by the WWE product
For the most part, most people already do. For years, when people casual fans or non-fans talked about wrestling, they never mentioned WCW, ECW or NWA. It was always WWF. Wrestling and WWF went hand in hand for decades, because they were the most recognized show to go national like they did, when they did. It's the same today, only you hear WWE over WWF 70% of the time.

Sadly I think thats a pretty valid point. Even going back to our generation he's conditioned a LOT of people to think a certain way and accept WWE before anything else. They are WWE fans not wrestling fans in the truest sense. Even if its just the name brand and not even the spectacle. Some people were curious and looked from under that WWE umbrella but most? I'm not sure they care to put in that kind of effort.
The audience for pro wrestling in America is already relatively small when you look a the entertainment landscape as a whole. Any competing company trying to be an alternative can always be a successful niche...but being on WWE's level? or even halfway on their level as far as popularity or brand recognition? I have serious doubts.
I think that conditioning is only getting worse and worse with each younger generation of WWE fans. And Vince is still doing it with this "no mention of the word wrestling" edict.
To the entire current young generation of WWE fans under the age to 12 WCW is nothing more than a few video packages on WWE tv...and they were WWE's GREATEST rival! Its a completely different audience with a different viewpoint from ten years ago. Doesn't take a lot of time in the grand scheme of things for WWE to achieve their agenda. I don't mean the natural evolution of the business because I have no problem with that but WWE is definitely trying to guide things.
And if we jump ahead another ten or twenty years its interesting to think about what those younger fans will think of pro wrestling as a whole. Its just interesting to think about how far an alternative can go when the entire playing field is being affected at the foundation by the biggest most influential player.
Look WWE's recent handling of Gorgeous George. Ten years ago they didn't have time for him but now? They are slowing teaching their audience how important he is as they rewrite their own history. Makes me wonder if even the small oversights and generalizations on certain WWE produced DVD's are accidents or on purpose? I know it sounds crazy but I wouldn't put it past McMahon. He didn't get rich for nothing.
Aww, you're making me feel bad now. :( But I had to add to my Transformers: Alternators collection, so pity-spending had to be put on hold.
Which one(s)? I wish I had Mirage and Wheeljack. Some unusual candidates are my favorites out of the ones I have.

- A lot of familiar faces were at the Hall of Fame yesterday including Lex Luger, Norman Smiley, Diamond Dallas Page, Jimmy Hart, Gene Okerlund, Mae Young, Nikita Koloff and others but perhaps the one who got most recognition was Ric Flair. As soon as the Nature Boy popped out with his family, fans in the arena started woooing as Flair acknowledged the crowd. Ric Flair was never mentioned during the broadcast and was never called by anyone on stage and didn’t even appear in the Shawn Michaels video package. One man who wasn’t there among the crowd was The Rock, although he could have been backstage with The Undertaker and Vince McMahon. Two interesting pairings at the show were The Miz with Maryse who were both sitting in front row and CM Punk with Beth Phoenix.

Some thoughts on the card before the show:
John Cena vs The Miz
The weakest WWE title match in the history of Mania and with a fairly boring build, except for one thing The Rock! Now I've never been a big Rock fan but he has kept this thing afloat with his angle with Cena and while the match will be mediocre if it's lucky, it is what Rock does in the aftermath that will surely be the talking point.
Triple H vs The Undertaker
One of the most rushed and forced build ups I've ever seen, however with the introduction of HBK as a wild card this got elevated. I'm not sold on it being a great match as Triple H has not been great in a long time and both are broken down and have barely wrestled in the last year so they'll be rusty, but Shawn will do something to make it memorable.
Edge vs Alberto Del Rio
This has been an oldschool type build and I have found it decent if low key. Again it needed outside additions in the form of Christian and Brodus to elevate it, and I think not adding Christian will hurt the match quality as Del Rio is still basic.
CM Punk vs Randy Orton
The build for this has been fairly terrible, 4 weeks of Orton punting jobbers and acting like a loon as he been dull as hell, but Punk's promo on the last Raw lifted proceedings a bit. This current incarnation of Orton irritates me and the leg injury suggests a match built around it, which is risky given Orton's already ponderous style.
Jerry Lawler vs Michael Cole
Some cheap heat aside this has been one of the best build matches on the card, Cole is beyond detestable and he's amped things up to the point his comeuppance could get the pop of the night. It's a shame the PG restrictions will get in the way of Cole taking an epic whooping, but Austin will stun Swagger, King will get his vengeance and Austin, King and JR will share a beer, everyone wins.
Cody Rhodes vs Rey Mysterio
The best built match on the card, Rhodes character work has been outstanding and if given enough time this may well steal the show.
Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan
This doesn't have a build but it's good to see the US title being defended at Wrestlemania.
Sadly they will probably get less than 10 minutes but I think they'll still have a good match and it's a smart choice to open the show.
Team Show vs The Corre
Tedious build and I expect nothing from this except hopefully Nash replacing Koslov as a 'surprise' partner.
JoMo/Trish/Snooki vs Ziggler/Laycool
They went the worst possible route with this, I just hope JoMo gets a big memorable spot.

I really hope Shawn doesn't cause him to lose the match. Either have him keep other people from interfering or have him lay Undertaker out after the match.
Just got into the Georgia Dome and omg the set is awesome!!!
This Wrestlemania may not have the best booking but it's still gotta be an amazing experience to be there live.

Is there any other Trips fan around here??,Every time I see a pic/video or something about Triple H around here.....It always turns to bashing and sarcastic jokes about him mainly cause of his reputation!
I agree that he's been selfish and full of ego,But I rarely read anything about his ring&mic work and overall character and ain't that the most important thing than picking him apart cause of his backstage reputation??

Triple H is pretty old school. He learned from Killer Kowakski after all.He saw Sheamus as something special and even it took people a while to see since his push was so rushed anyone can see it now.I think Triple H might be one of the great assets backstage once he retires.

She's not that bad to look at either. She also has normal hair, unlike Nicki Minaj and Rihanna, both of whom have hair not seen in nature.

Because the WWE I don't think trusts Del Rio 100% to headline. If this was Edge vs. Taker, Edge vs. Rey, Edge vs. A Raw guy (Cena, Orton, Punk, Triple H) or Edge vs. Ziggler again, it would have been lower on the card.

* Ring announcer welcomes us to Wrestlemania.
* Keri Hilson performs “America The Beautiful”
* Opening introductory video, and they throw it over to the host for Wrestlemania 27, The Rock. The Rock’s music hits, and out comes the most electrifying man in sports entertainment. Rock receives a great crowd reaction, as you would expect. Fans chant, “Rock, Rocky, Rocky.” “Finally The Rock has come back to Atlanta!,” says The Rock. “And finally The Rock as come back to Wrestlemania.” Rock promises that this will be the most memorable Wrestlemania of all time. The Rock says they are making history right now, and that we gonna have fun. Rock says “wrestle,” and fans chant “mania.” He said Cena is in the back trying to figure out which fruity pebbles t-shirt to wear tonight, which gets the fans laughing. The Rock takes a drink from the People’s water bottle. He gets the fans to chant “yabba and dabba.” He goes through many of his catch phrases. Rock gets the fans to say it with him, “if you smell what The Rock is cooking.”
