Movie-Hawkeye Poll

Seeing as there has suddenly developed a huge amount of debate over in the Renner as Hawkeye thread to do with his costume, characterisation and origin, I thought maybe we should just have a poll and let the numbers speak rather than too many arguments break out.

All we know about Hawkeye in this movie is that he's a SHIELD agent and wears a costume similar to Ultimate Hawkeye's. What's to debate?

Yeah really don't see what's there to debate about. Especially over some concept drawings that only a handful of people have seen.

All we know is squat to be fair. We know one guy saw footage of a generic suit for his Thor cameo, and another saw concept art for his larger role in Avengers.

What we also saw recently was an official pic of the new Wonderwoman, followed a week later by on set pics of her wearing red boots not blue like the official pic, and less shiny trousers than the official pic. So what some guys think they saw in a night time scene cameo of a character who will be a larger part of a later film really doesn't tell us jack.

We don't know if he only uses a bow, or if he has an issue with killing so uses a bow to avoid that, or if he'll kill anyone provided he's given orders, or if he uses night vision targeting specs like Smallville's GA.
We don't know if he's also acrobatic, or is ex-military, recruited by SHIELD straight from the carnival like a CIA candidate out of college.
We don't know if he'll use a crossbow too, or if his SHIELD uniform has additions specific to his speciality (arm brace, taser arrows, the classic Clint loin cloth)

Besides which - whattayaknow... The three votes cast so far (I haven't voted btw) have equal weighting for 616-like suits, or a combo. Nothing for the Ultimate leather all in one with killing sprees and guns blazing.
Not a lotta votes, sure. But given the arguments for not having him be a carnie and not having him in purple and him killing provided its bad guys, it's a bit of a flip isn't it

Yeah but whether people want to see it or not I think most accept that the 616 Hawkeye costume will not work on screen, given that he is an agent of SHIELD.

I knew from the beginning they wouldn't have the pointy purple suit in the movie.

Its really no big deal when you think about it. Would I have wanted the 616 suit? Hell yes, but I knew it wasn't going to happen.

So you pretty much took the poll as "if they were making another feature length Avengers Cartoon, which Hawkeye would you want"?

Not "Given the level of realism established in superhero movies of late where Batman does indeed wear a form fitting suit but not exactly a spandex with outside pants, and Cap does wear the flag but with some sensible alterations, and Thor does wear a muscle showy Asgardian battle/regal dress - which version of Hawkeye would be the best fit for what you want and how far the filmakers are likely to allow it to go"

I want a more realistic version of the 616 Hawkeye costume. If he's going to be apart of the team, he should have a f***ing costume. I personally don't care which origin they use (as long as his personality is that of Hawkeye), but Clint having a past as a carnie would be a nice treat.

I want a good mix of the 616 and the Ultimate costume (forget the mask but keep the purple) a good mix of the A:EMH and the 616 origin (focus on him being SHIELD agent but little hints of his past at the carnie) and his 616 personality (no f***ing guns!!!)

Well, what we've heard of him from his Thor cameo seems to be a good indicator that he's all bows & arrows.

It's difficult to nail down a background that'll make everyone happy. Because there's just not the room in an ensemble movie. I think we'd get about as much as we got of Natasha's background in IM2 - unless someone reads off a personnel folder, or he and Cap have a brief chat while in a training room or something

I would say the latter, as it looks more like something a special ops SHIELD agent would wear, and maybe have him add the mask only while going into battle/

Maybe Clint starts out like the Ultimates version. But as the film goes on & he becomes more of an Avenger he gets something similar to the classic 616 outfit.

Maybe he's assigned to the team as a special SHIELD agent and wears an Ultimates type uniform at first. Then very quickly into their first skirmish he realises the kind of enemy fire these supertypes take is nothing like taking cover from bullets and evading RPGs. Maybe he finds he needs to let out his carnival learned agility a bit, and leather and combat vests prevent him from doing that

i seriously doubt they,ll go with the carny angle. but who knows? it wouldnt hurt to say maybe he joined the Carnival when he was a teenager or something. and im a fan of the full face mask myself but i dont think theyre gonna go there. ive always hated the purple but i wouldnt mind some highlights here and there. purple looks pretty good with black

um noones saying it should be exactly Ultimate Hawkeye. who personally i like a great deal. were mostly saying we prefer his costume. and i expect a mixture of 616 and Ultimate with a bit of new stuff thrown in as far as his character goes. seems like Marvels taking influences from 616 and Ultimate U for most of these movies so far. hell the IH was influenced by the old tv show.

That sounds great! I don't see Whedon skipping out on costumes either, he did change the X-Men back to real costumes on his run after all.

Ah, fair enough - thought he meant he'd prefer the character and costume of Ultimate Hawkeye. A blend could work

Cos the poll options are half existing outfits and half combos of outfits and personalities.

I don't see the bias in the poll. I suggested the least flamboyant 616 costume as much as I highlighted the gun toting side of Hawkeye I think. I have no problem with purple on the uniform, or a mask. But I do take issue with him being a gunslinger over an archer, or killing without hesitation.
