I LOVE Thor's new chainmail armor, Iron Man's new suit is great, and Cap's new costumes is pretty decent.
Hulk's new purple shorts look ok, I'm not too crazy about them though.

Once things get settled i do wonder what are the odds Captain America gets the Ultimates 2 look? Movie Captain has the helmet, why not cartoon one?
PS. Anubis you're pretty good with Black Panther stuff, is the costume change most likely going to reflect on Panther being the King? Give him the royal cape and the tooth necklace around his neck like the costume his father had?

Oh, thanks! My guess is that the main inspiration for this kind of story came straight out of Mark Waid's Captain America vol.3 (Hydra/Srkulls arc), after all, it's got some similar moments like Cap losing his shield & finding it destroyed + Skrulls taking over Cap & doing some bad publicity tricks on his behalf, unleashing chaos & violence on the american people.

Just let em give Panther this look from Priest's run:

Yeah thats the look i think they're aiming for. Maybe he'll ditch the cloak for action stuff so they can save animation budget. :p

yeah, but i think they'll tie it more dirrectly to the kree/skrull event they're planning, which i think would be a great way to either kick start the season or leave folks wanting more going into a mid season break.

I don't mind Iron Man, I mean, well, why but...
They should've at least WAITED until like the 4th season and what's more they ALL have to get costume changes, SERIOUSLY? I certainly hope there isn't a costume change per season....That'll get old REAL quick...

Young Justice is the superior cartoon because atleast they remained loyal to the classic designs and didn't use inspiration from elseworlds or movies or modern looks whatsoever at all nor did they try anything new themselves.
PS.

Tho for real, let's remember this show has good story telling and voice actors, i don't think this is that bad at all to see characters try new armor, especially since the last episode had them use magical armor and whatnot, maybe Thor went with a more protective armor so evil magic spells wouldn't hurt so much? Captain America's story reason is so funny yet awesome at the same time, because it's like they're pointing out thru the design how "evil" Ultimate Steve is, because you know we're getting a Cap vs. Cap match, or well nah we don't know but i think it would be cool!

I suppose I can get used to the photonic shield, so long as its temporary and that they'll try to repair it...
The new costumes, I don't mind Iron Man and Hulk, so much as Thor and Cap.....I just hope they don't perform a makeover on everyone, every season. And I dislike Hawkeye's Ultimate look with great intensity. I seriously hope they don't go for that.

I hope the energy shield is temporary. Cap's shield is symbolic of his unbreakable will, and I love it. I think the energy shield takes away from that element of Cap, so I'd prefer him not wield this thing for too long. I don't hate it as a temporary thing, but I'd be disappointed if we never get the good old shield forged back and into the right hands.

Well, that storyline was a summer cross-over sort of event. If you go with some of the retcons it established, then it was pretty successful until they made their big move to take over.
I don't think the FF would be the team they have in mind, as they say it's a team Fury's putting together himself, and the FF is already together. Plus Mockingbird is there.

Well, either way, I can't wait to hear what else is divulged from next week after the DVD's released.
I gotta admit, I'm impressed. This show's come a long way. It's managed to maintain a dark, serious vibe and throw in bits of comedy. Plus they don't make villains look totally incomptent and foolish. I mean, to me, certain scenes such as the Hulk being chased by the Hulk Busters, Bucky's death/resurrection and Loki's torture seemed dark to me, a bit much for a "kid's show."

I think you're being too literal there. I mean just in their willingness to write a serious show with actual characters and bigger storylines. Haven't really seen that kind of ambition since "X-Men: TAS" back in the '90s.

It's possible. At least this means they won't let the real Cap be left out in the cold for most of the season; More likely just the first one, if he's lucky.

I don't really include "WaTXM", partially because it didn't get a real chance to expand on some things (also, lack of Colossus continues to piss me off), and I didn't really watch more than a few episodes of "Spectacular Spider-Man" (though I can see why people enjoyed it). I am a little torn. This is obviously done for synergy with the films, which feels cheap and pandering. On the other hand...at least we DID get the classic costumes for 26 episodes, and it isn't like people can't change their clothes. Hopefully there is a decent in story reason for it. Technically, Cap is already wearing a modified revamp of his 1940's costume.
The irony? Wasp, the character who in the comics changed her outfit practically every issue, may have fewer costume changes than Captain America.

At the very least, I don't think the sales of a toy line would as drastically effect the bottom line of A:EMH than it probably did for MOTU.
Right now it seems another season of 26 episodes is assured. Voice acting for it has just ended or is wrapping up and that means finished episodes may be available for air next year. It will reach the 52 episode barrier and that's not a mark that a Marvel cartoon that isn't Super Hero Squad or Iron Man Armored Adventures (i.e. a show that isn't shamelessly pandering to the under 12 crowd) has reached since 2003. A third season would be awesome but right now I am focused on enjoying the second.

Indeed. Within the last ten years, the amount of Marvel shows that have reached 56 episodes have been:
X-MEN: EVOLUTION (2000-2003)
MARVEL SUPER HERO SQUAD SHOW (2009-2011)
IRON MAN: ARMORED ADVENTURES (2009-2011)
AVENGERS: EARTH'S MIGHTIEST HEROES (2009-2011/12)
That's four shows within 10 years; and only 3 within 5.
Of course, it may just be a difficult period for TV animation in general. WB animation had JUSTICE LEAGUE (which became JLU from seasons 3-5), STATIC SHOCK, THE BATMAN, and BATMAN: BRAVE AND THE BOLD hit that mark.
(For the record, and maybe this is the wrong topic, but it is frankly amazing that STATIC SHOCK was on network TV for 4 seasons, did 52 episodes, was nominated for 6 Emmy's and won 2, and to date its only official DVD release was a single release offering episodes 1-6...from 2004. It gets hard to deny that racism still exists in the industry when you think about that.)
Even in the 90's, only four comic book cartoons reached at least 52 episodes or more: BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, SUPERMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, SPIDER-MAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, and X-MEN. Technically, BATMAN BEYOND only had 47 episodes (and an animated movie). But, Marvel had difficulty getting a lot of cartoons to last beyond 2 seasons (26 episodes) back then, too.
It is great that the legacy of AVENGERS: UNITED THEY STAND can finally be buried in a dump somewhere, and forgotten. We've finally gotten a real Avengers show, and it'll last at least as long as X-MEN EVOLUTION did.

"There’ll be changes to some of the old favorites, with new costume designs for Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and Nick Fury. Captain America and Nick Fury will be sporting their Ultimate Comics looks, and Thor’s look will be based on Olivier Coipel design. And introducing new characters, with 2 new Avengers, Ms. Marvel & the Vision. Guest stars include the Fantastic Four, Doc Samson, Ronan the Accuser, Ultron, Guradians of the Galaxy (Star-Lord, Quasar -Phyal-Vell, Adam Warlock, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot), the Falcon, Skrulls, and Dr Doom. With all these characters, Season 2 sounds exciting."
Sounds like the only new members for this season is Vision and Ms. Marvel. Which I have to admit isn't entirely bad. Let the two prove themselves and have moments with the other members like Cap, Panther and Hawkeye. And it sounds like Fury's gonna go bald. And, ooh, the return of Doc Samson! Too bad I don't see Silver Surfer and Galactus. But then again, they probably, if not hopefully, just don't wanna spoil the season before it comes out.
"Season 2 will involve storylines including the Secret Invasion and Dr Doom. But the major of the season will have to deal with Avengers trying to stay a team."
It also sounds like Mr. Yost was spoiling the episode 27. It indeed involves Doc Doom. I for one am VERY excited. And I'm glad the Avengers are at least TRYING to stay on the team.
A third season would be awesome but right now I am focused on enjoying the second.
And I have to agree. We can focus on enjoying Season Two. See what Yost has up his sleeve.

That still doesn't say whether or not the Captain America wearing the suit is in fact Captain America.
You really think they would promote a redesign heavily and just take it away after few episodes? S2 opens up with Secret Invasion and once thats done (which is 2-3 episodes) Steve is back with his new outfit that resembles the movie costume just like Mickey Mouse likes it.
TheVileOne
04-25-2011, 04:27 PM
I still hate that costume. It's simply not iconic.
What would you rather have the Spider-man movie costume from the Raimi films or the one from the reboot? The original movie costume was tweaked but it was basically a faithful translation of the classic, iconic outfit.
What I also hate about the Ultimate costume is that it reminds me more of Fighting American.
Anubis
04-25-2011, 04:29 PM
I don't see how it's being heavily promoted. Fact is, from what we KNOW right now, is that Cap (The real Cap) is off the table at least until the Secret Invasion arc is done. And how long that will last, who the f**k knows? Maybe when it's over he'll keep the new outfit. (I don't see why though) But to say that the Cap that will be wearing that uniform is actually Cap is inconclusive at the moment.

I also love Breakout as the first official team episode. I think this one worked out so much better than the team-up episode of JL. The JL pilot episode was somewhat weak in many regards (and Superman got punked in it). But, that battle with Graviton and the way they come together is great.

I really, really hope that Doctor Doom is a villain who pop up more than once. And that the Fantastic Four gets more than cameos, that they get developed as true allies of the Avengers. Heck, it would not at all be wrong to have Mr. Fantastic, Thing or Invisible Girl/Woman join as members of the Avengers... or even the Human Torch for that matter. But that should be in the future. I'm hoping for the Invisible Woman though.

Doom's had a knack for being everybody else's villain, not just the Fantastic Four's. I'm pretty sure he'll show up more than once.
is that invisible woman in the fourth pic with falcon and the other heroes?
No doubt, yes.
So what's the deal with Falcon? Is he a faster version of the Vulture?
Ariakas

Falcon is a hero, I think he actually was the first African-american superhero in Marvel Comics. He has been an Avenger and an agent of SHIELD, and is also a close friend and former partner of Steven Rogers. Correct me if I'm wrong on anything.
Vulture just uses a flying harness/device, Falcon also has somekind of mental link with birds and is also a very skilled melee combatant, one of many characters to have been trained by Cap himself.
Do any others believe the appearance of Falcon could herald the return of the Red Skull?

Black Panther is African (Wakanda), not African-American. Gabe Jones is not really a "superhero", just a "hero" (but it's a matter of opinion I guess).
And I had to check on Goliath. You are right, he predates him by three years but Bill Foster did not become a superhero (his Black Goliath identity) until 1975... so that's like six years later :P
But anyway, I'm hoping for Bill Foster in this show also. I saw the art for him earlier and I think he would be a great addition. He could be introduced as a scientist helping the Avengers at the mansion after Pym leaves or something like that.

Over time, Cap has become my favorite hero, but Dr. Doom, imo, is EASILY the greatest villain in comics, Marvel or DC and I've always felt that way. Dr. Doom is such a rich character in depth, concept, and execution. He may not have the raw power some of the major powerhouse villains have, but he more than makes up for it. I really can't wait to see him in this show.

I think it will probably have to do with him changing his look because he's on the lam. There's something about him dealing realistically with aging on a show like this that would seem kind of strange.

Well in any event I hope there is a scene with him putting a razor to his head rather than just having a head of hair one moment and then chrome domed the next. Maybe he's on the run from someone and needs to alter his appearance, but then once he's restored to director of SHIELD he decides he likes the look. I want an actual explanation behind it (like how he got the whites on the side of his temples from Baron Strucker) instead of just a cosmetic change.

Ms. Marvel looks...marvelous (pun intended). The decision to use her original costume and not her later revamp seen currently was a bold one. It actually looks great here. Of course, she still may change her costume later on. It is ironic that Wasp may have the most stable costume design of everyone, yet in the comics changed her outfit every other issue. Woe is the TV animation budget that they can't afford too many character models a season. :p
Ronan the Accuser looks great. I wonder if the caped Kree is Yon-Rogg?
Dr. Doom looks epic. I haven't seen him look that good in animation since he was in the SPIDER-MAN cartoon from 1981. Hopefully he sounds good and doesn't act like Skeletor, as he did in "FANTASTIC FOUR: WGH".
Vision looks great, as does Falcon.

Pretty sure that IS in fact Yon-Rogg. Just a gut feeling.
This show has a way of making villains look seriously dangerous, yet can be comedic. Look what they did with Leader and MODOC. I mean, they don't turn villains into laughing stocks just for laughs, they can get passed that. I'm sure this Doom'll be one of the best portrayed Dooms in Marvel animation.

I mean, they don't turn villains into laughing stocks just for laughs, they can get passed that. I'm sure this Doom'll be one of the best portrayed Dooms in Marvel animation.
That is true. Both Leader and MODOC were the butt of some jokes, but were both also dangerous adversaries. I'd argue Leader came off as more dangerous than MODOC, but that's to be expected. He's the arch nemesis of the Hulk, while MODOC is sort of an all around villain.
Doom is a difficult character to write, admittedly. The very idea of him referring to himself in 3rd person sometimes can be unintentionally funny if written or acted off. He is a character who does bold schemes and acts in broad strokes, which can be seen as cliche villain behavior, yet he shouldn't be funny. He has to be an intimidating presence - he did inspire Darth Vader, after all, and Vader acts in similar fashion. The 1981 animated version even SOUNDED a lot like Vader (which was intentional; STAR WARS was at it's height of popularity in the early 80's). I do believe this crew can pull it off, given how they've handled Red Skull, Ultron, Kang and others.
The Skrulls do look cool. The last time Yost handled them in FF:WGH, they were the butt of jokes - but that entire show was basically a sitcom. I wonder if they may be, from left to right, Talos, Dorrek VII & Kl'rt, respectively? It makes sense to have Talos appear since he is a Hulk villain and the Hulk's part of the team.
The Four also look great here. It will be amusing if we get a better version of the Four in an AVENGERS cartoon that we have gotten from their own animated shows over the years. Of course...that is akin to getting the best version of Doom from a SPIDER-MAN cartoon. :p

I've seen some hopes by fans across the net that Spider-Man and the X-Men ought to appear. If the former appears, so should Daredevil. Plenty of cartoons have:
-X-men 1990's did after season 1 for sure as I recall
-Masters of The Universe 2002-2004, first season ended in a cliffhanger. The show was cut off in season 2 but at least had an ending of sorts but the show could've continued because Skeletor was still around but it was hinted at that King Hsss could still be resurrected
-Exo Squad second season ended in a giant cliffhanger that was never resolved. Exo Squad was famous for having very dark, mature storytelling for a 1990's animated kids show that was mainly meant to be toyetic
-Thundercats as I recall ended with some pretty famous cliffhangers which is why I think Thundercats is so popular because of the serialized storytelling format. Quite often they would do like five episode miniseries
-Spider-man 1990's seasons ended on cliffhangers pretty frequently
-Justice League never really had a real cliffhanger IMHO unless you want to count Starcrossed and Hawkgirl being voted out and leaving the league.

There is an image of her, as well as Falcon, in a shot of Josh Fine that is on the board. Apparently there was no concept art like there is of Thing.
As for Pym, it makes sense he would still leave the team for a bit. He has stated many times that he believes in rehabilitation and non-violent solutions; yet all he does on the Avengers is help pummel something into submission or come up with a plan or gadget to that end. He has only stayed this long because he loves Janet and wants to protect her (and merrily turns giant and pummels stuff to protect her). He may still want a sabbatical to sort things out.
Plus, they likely need someone to be away sometimes so they can keep the roster at 7 members instead of 8 or 9 for SAG and animation purposes. Cap won't really be "away" until the plot is exposed.
At this point, though, Hank is actually very close to the team's MVP, which is a role I didn't think he would come close to filling when the show was in production. Sure, Hulk and Thor have the brute force, and Iron Man is the technological whiz, while Cap has his determination and Hawkeye his skill. But more often than not in Season 1 at least, Hank was the one who came up with the key plan or the Hail Mary pass that saved the day. Stark is the expert when it comes to engineering and technology - hacking a system or building an armor/robot whatever. T'Challa is also a genius, and his country merges magic and science, but he's more a doer than a talker. For the all around science stuff, Pym's their expert. Even in the season finale, Hank was ultimately the one who figured out how to save the day at the end. He was deliberately kept off camera for "GAMMA-WORLD" so he couldn't undo Leader's plot in 5 minutes, after all. He fills the role Reed Richards does on the Fantastic Four, only without being the leader - on paper, Iron Man is the leader, although in practice Cap has shifted to that role on occasion. At this point even Hulk might grumble, "Bug-Man should be here."
Simply saving the day another time wouldn't be enough to get Pym to overcome his ethical dilemma, so we'll see how it handled in Season 2.
Well, to be fair, that's how Genis was created and I suppose that's Her official origin. But the truth of the matter is she was created because Genis helped Entropy destroy the universe, and restarted it but kinda f**ked everything up and ended up with a b***hy sister.
Right, but that likely won't happen in this cartoon. For all we know, Phyla (and Genis) could either be cloned when Mar-Vell is alive or just be his kids out there in the universe. Assuming they really get into that.

Seems odd to use the GOTG from the present and claim they're from the future. Of course, cartoons typically "condense" origins, so who knows.
Marvel released an official clip from the DVD release, which has one extra plot spoiler for Season 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_0MzevBKE0
Obviously, they are going to do an adaptation of SECRET INVASION. But, it will actually OPEN Season 2. Fine and Yost mention that as breaking the bonds of trust the team have for each other, at least in the short term. They mention Nick Fury as being the only person who knows about the Skrulls and the threat they pose, and like in the comics, assembling a team to combat it. That COULD mean the Secret Warriors at least in name, but...in the cartoon it may not be a series of brats. Mockingbird would seem to be a no-brainer, and that is possibly how Ms. Marvel comes into play, too. Black Widow would likely be on such a team as well, if she and Fury can find each other.

Aw, leave it to them to post a picture of INVISIBLE Woman...
Hank's pretty formidable in a fight for a pacifist. Let's hope they turn him into Yellowjacket WITHOUT him becoming a jackass.
They'll have Miss Marvel to fill in that gap until Yellowjacket joins. Of course, I certainly hope they explore a lot of possibilities with her. Yost said what they were going to do with her will turn some heads. I'm excited to see how Wasp will react to one of her closest friends joining the team.
Of course I'm more excited to see how Ms. M will interact with team members such as Hulk, Cap, Thor and T'Challa. She's a less-talking-more-hitting person/tomboy/soldier/warrior, so I see a lot of potential here.

Well, if you really think about it, telling people that you're the Invisible Woman is a tactical error, same as turning invisible right in front of someone. Turn invisible BEFORE you enter a battle.
I've never cared for the Yellowjacket guise, as a design or whatever. I'm not counting down the episodes until Pym dons it. I liked the little nod to it with his Asgardian armor, but I'm happy with him as Ant-Man/Giant-Man.
Carol Danvers should be an interesting component to the team. She would add some "legitimacy" to them as she is an active duty U.S. military figure. Captain America technically was, but was 70 years removed and presumed dead. Iron Man has ties to SHIELD, but he often disagrees with them and is not a SHIELD agent. Hawkeye is a SHIELD agent, but had been considered a rogue agent, and his defense of Black Widow (who is considered a HYDRA spy) may not aid his ties. Danvers, however, has a perfectly fine record as a military woman. Especially as Maria Hill goes through on her actions to try to force the heroes to register, Danvers may become key.
Plus, it will be good to have another female character for Wasp to talk to, especially as they're already friends. She and Natasha don't get along.
The show many finally get to pass the Bechdel Test - having two female characters that talk to each other about something that isn't a man.

We've heard this is "the cosmic season" and as that will be kicking off immediately, it may not be too long. Her powers manifested in her intro episode, so she probably has been undergoing some secret training for a bit. I am surprised that this show has her wearing her original costume, at least initially, instead of the version she has worn since the 70's and 80's (that has been seen in her appearances in "MARVEL SUPER HERO SQUAD" as well as the 1990's "X-MEN" show). But they made it look great and I feel it is a great move, since Mar-Vell is in his Ultimate design, and thus, it doesn't seem "inspired" by him here.

Hawkeye is no longer SHIELD. He turned down a spot back in and joined the Avengers instead.
I just have a feeling that season 2 will be it for the show and new shows will be made from here on like Ultimate Spider-Man.

Right, so Hawkeye is ex-SHIELD. That makes Danvers' role as an active duty soldier more important.
Just getting 52 episodes is a feat in itself. That said, if the ratings do well and the toys and DVD's sell well, or Marvel/Disney want to continue hype for, say, "THE AVENGERS 2", I could see a third season happening. But that is very much in the future.

I don't know, the fact that she has super powers now may not exactly put her on good terms with Hill. And we haven't exactly seen how Wasp gets along with Widow. Or were you referering to in the comics?

Yes, I meant Wonder Man. And it doesn't have to be an inconsistency, a lot of people think she can do it in the comics.
It's either Wonder Man or she can prove useful against Enchantress by absorbing her magic.

If he does, I don't want him keeping that ionic form. He's unrelatable like that. I prefer him either in his safari jacket, original costume or in his blue, black and red duds. Any of those are better than all of this crackling energy.
I also wish that Ms Marvel would have the bare midriff from that version of her original costume. It looked sexier.

Buy yeah, I'd like to see him able to shift between ionic and human form.
So i'm guessing we will have a new intro since Hydra is no more (for now). I just hope its not set in space like the SHS season 2 intro which is also their cosmic season also keep the intro song, its cool

Danvers DOES have super powers, but she got them while under official U.S. military duty, and should still be considered a soldier (much as Captain Atom was in "JLU"). It could be an interesting dynamic if played around with. Cap's a soldier, but he was legally considered MIA and presumed dead for decades and now would likely be considered "freelance". Hawkeye is ex-SHIELD, and likely closer to Black Widow than Hill cares for. The rest are "independents".
Wasp didn't seem to like Black Widow when they met; she asked Hulk to smash her.
They could bring in another producer to replace Fine, in theory. Or promote Yost for all we know.
Actually, some of Josh Fine's comments on his Twitter account make it sound like he's still helping work on the show.
It is possible he is doing "wrap up" work to make sure things run smoothly for the show after he departs.

A new intro is an extra expense that not many cartoons do. It was very cool when the 2k3 TMNT show changed their intro a few times within 4-5 seasons. It would make sense, but I would be dazzled if they did. Marvel doesn't have the TV animation budget that Warner Brothers has, even after the Disney deal.
