Somehow, some way Vaughn and Singer have possible pulled off the best film of the genre this summer. It has the most impressive footage and tone of any of the comic book films this summer.

It looks and feels IMPORTANT...an event.

It does look amazing, actually. Has Fox actually learned it's lesson after the disastrous X-3 and Wolverine Origins?

It’s taken 3 movies and 8 years since the cliffhanger at the end of X2 to see a red headed mutant emerge from the water, and it’s Banshee. Go figure. I hope they play a trailer in front of Thor too. It would make for an even better movie-going experience.

No. Its still rushed as all hell. But it will be good because of vaughn and singer. It really does depend on the talent behind the film to put up with fox, their time constraints, and to make a good enough edit. If the director and his team arn't good enough ala X3 and Origins then thats what we get. I cant imagine if Vaughn was apart of Wolverine or X3. They would have been lightyears better.

I truly think Fox got lucky this time. My faith would be restored if we get a sequel thats over 2 hours with Vaughn or Singer directing.

The Morningstar
04-20-2011, 05:58 AM
I don't think it's that. Gavin Hood was a good, oscar winning director.

The reason X-3 and Wolverine were crap was because of the studio execs trying to be directors.

It seems Fox have left Vaughn alone here. Which makes sense, because I seriously doubt he'd come back to Fox unless he was guaranteed to be able to make the movie he wanted to make.

Tom rothman Isn't running Fox films like In the past.Matthew vaughn was lucky to have
Bryan Singer onboard as Producer. It Is known Fox largly left Vaughn alone.

Had Vaughn done the Last Stand It would have been a better film. While It still would
be critized(Since the Studio forced them to Kill Off both Cyclops and Xavier) it would
have been better received by fans

Yep your right. Nicholas Hoult said in an interview Vaughn had creative control on X-Men: First Class. It seems like it was part of the deal of him directing so I wouldn't credit Fox if this movies a success I would credit Vaughn despite Fox giving him a such a small window to make the movie.

I actually think when Bacon was explaining the powers in that interview a while ago that he may have been a bit confused about Shaw's powers, or just did a terrible job explaining them.

In the offical power descriptions on the First Class Facebook page, it says that Shaw will have his Kinetic Energy Absorption powers from the comics.

I think it's Azazel or whatever his name is. He can teleport to that demonic realm or something. I remember reading that about the character. The had in the scene I saw looked reddish. Then again it could be Shaw, although I'm pretty sure that's not in his power set.

Switching powers on an already established character is never a good thing. Their is no reason to alter Shaw's powers. Shaw can not copy powers. History be d@mned however with Singer and Fox and Vaughan as well I see.

I am guessing this is when they attack the CIA headquaters and the X-men are in the building , thats why Shaw must be wearing the helmet to block Xaviers powers

Thank God for these screen shots. I can see a level of detail that isn't obvious in the trailers. For instance all of the men(or women) standing around in the upper level of that pic. Gives some perspective on how big that scene will be.

James McAvoy already said that he was written out of that scene when Azazel attacks the CIA with the younger mutants there.

The Original Bamfer
04-22-2011, 03:17 AM
I don't recall reading that. I recall reading McAvoy saying Charles and Erik were written out of the scene where the young mutants get drunk, show off their powers for fun and then get in trouble with the CIA, not the scene where they get attacked by Shaw and/or Shaw's henchmen in the CIA saferoom. But I could be wrong.

I don't think he's multiplying. Maybe it's super speed or something. He absorbs energy and channels it into strength and durability, he can also move faster as wel. That I know for sure. I guess well have to wait and see.. It looked like a grenade he detonated.

Super speed would make more sense considering his comic ability, but in the trailer it looks more like the extra limbs and heads pop out and stay out to contain the energy, as opposed to moving too fast for the eye to see - I'd imagine that'd look more like a blur with the split-second visible limb here or there.

It looked to be a ship's anchor. Look closer at it. You have the anchor part with the long chain connected to it. Magneto is of course using it for some reason. well I assume it's him.

I highly doubt they have given this man extra limbs and heads and what not. You could be right but I think it's him moving really really fast to prevent any of the explosive force from escaping. who knows for sure exactly what he's doing in that scene.

The anchor one comes to mind. The Sebastian Shaw (or some say Azazel)-stomping the ground one. The explosion itself.

of course the previously mentioned Shaw absorbing the explosion bit.

And wouldn't "not finished" by its very definition mean work-in-progress anyway?

SuperSoldier985
04-23-2011, 10:09 PM
Well, all of the special effects leading up to the very week before release can be called, "work-in-progress"--we all know that.

and since it takes probably a week or so to actually MAKE the trailer and probably a few days to actually get it officially released, the effects that we see in any trailer are probably a month older.

I'm getting really nervous for how well it's going to do in the box office though. For a supposedly 'huge summer blockbuster film' that's a little more than a month away, we've gotten one domestic teaser trailer. I haven't seen a single tv spot or print ad or billboard or promotion-tie-in or anything. And at the theaters, the most I see is the "X" poster displayed somewhere - which as most moviegoers are synonymous with the association, it still doesn't GRAB you.

I just think the marketing budget is tight and they are being strategic with the timing (as SuperSoldier pointed out). The film opens June 3rd and it's not yet May. XMen is a pretty well known brand so I can see why haven't had an early blitz of ads like Thor. But they are cutting it close.
