The flying looks the best I've seen in any movie. Snyder take some tips down.
Yeah, here's some info. on the rigs used for the flying sequences in First Class. Hopefully, Snyder utilizes something similar for Man of Steel.
http://www.dailyblam.com/news/2011/03/10/new-information-action-effects-for-x-men-first-class
It also appears that director Matthew Vaughn is utilizing as many practical effects for the film as possible, even for scenes where most filmmakers would choose post production CG work. They used some of the most high tech equipment I have ever seen. Computerized flying rigs connected to five or six giant cranes that were able to smoothly glide an actor 60 feet in the air... up and down, side to side and even turn them. The fact that they are literally flying (obviously from a wire) takes away the cheesy green screen effect. These guys were able to fly around sections of the beach the size of a football field; any direction under full control.

It's disappointed to never see Banshee in any of the posters. So far he is the only one without any feature promotional materials except trailers and some pictures. I mean he is so cool in the trailer. How can they leave him out in these posters !

In the banner, Mystique's hair seem to be combed back like the original rather than an unstylish bob we see so far !

Definitely seemed like they're using some new tech. That was the most striking part of the trailer quite honestly. How smooth the movement looked along with the great composition and rigging makes for a near perfect flying scene, it's very natural.

All that's missing is Darwin and the...Man in Black right?
That banner is just bizarre. It's such a strange mixture of so many different elements. I really do wonder what is going through the minds of the folks in Fox's art department.
craigdbfan
05-05-2011, 06:34 AM
Why do they suck at art so much? Who in the world did they put in charge.
The trailer editor is a genius yet the guy in charge of the promotional art side of things isn't even trying.
I mean what is going on?
I think its false advertising to have Havok`s Chest glow blue. :cmad:
Lol yeah.

05-05-2011, 07:40 AM
That's very interesting to learn about the flying. I mostly thought it was CGI because of how smooth it looked.
And yeah, that poster is horrendous. Why do movie companies never make photoshoots with all the actors anymore and instead create photoshop abominations like this one where none of the actors look like they fit in at all?
craigdbfan
05-05-2011, 08:16 AM
I defintely could tell that Banshee wasn't CGI since the beginning, if he were all CGI then it would have looked really stiff and just not good. Its the rigging and compositing along with that contraption with the incredible wire work that are to thank along with Vaughn and crew for making it work so well.

What is Beast's pre-serum Beastiness? He looks pretty normal in the footage we've seen. Is it just that he doesn't like being able to jump around and hang onto stuff?
you know, I kinda gotta say, he does come across a bit over dramatic about his "mutation".... big monkey feet, are hardy the worst mutation in the world, he could've gotten... and considering, having that one oddity, came along with being super smart, an enhanced agility

Look harder at that trailer. His whole body changed. You can see his reflection at the very end. I missed it the first time. Started with his feet and then it showed his hands and then his face very vaguely appeared in whatever that thing was.

That's the very first thing I noticed. The mark of a great director is how unique his direction is for any particular scene or dialog, filmed in such a way that is distinctively different than how others would have approached it.

I love how he takes us (the viewer) along for the journey. Instead of just watching the transformation (Beast) I felt like I was going through it with him and could imagine how it felt to lose control of yourself and fight a losing battle. I also love how we're right there with them through their self discovery as well as right there with the professor as he guides them.
I really like the feel of this. Yeah some of the cgi is subpar, dialogue a little stiff, but overall it feels very organic and dare I say, human.

Captain America and First Class were the only two trailers to receive applause at the midnight showing of Thor I went to, with Captain America receiving the most. Damn, that's good to hear!
Granted, I haven't seen the character trailers, but, after having seen Thor, I hope the tone of First Class is a bit more grown up. I think that would be a nice way for First Class to differentiate itself from the other superhero origin movies being released this summer, save for maybe Captain America.
There were moments in Thor that were a bit too cliche' for me, so I'm hoping First Class will be a nice break from that because, based on Green Lantern's first trailer and what they seem like they're hiding in the Wonder-Con footage and final trailer, I think Green Lantern may be offering more of the same of what I already saw in Thor. We'll see.

The character trailers were realistic and serious in tone, save for Banshee's (in terms of the latter tone,) as it seems he'll likely be the comedic releif. But it wasn't campy or anything. And when I say "realistic" I mean as realistic as you can get, of course, in a world with mutants in it. :o

The x men films have always been more grown up this move will continue with that.I don't understand it when some people say Batman begins started the whole serious tone pg 13 superhero movie ,X men had already been doing that for years.I would argue Batman begins was a very serous movie mainly because the first 2 x men films were hits

That's a good point. I loved Thor but it does have a very 'pop' vibe at times (the humour on earth, the Facebook and iPod references, etc) and despite Branagh's involvement, the dialogue isn't either smart or memorable. Natalie Portman is also quite ditzy and light, surprising for an Oscar winner (but not surprising considering she told us - see here (http://blogs.coventrytelegraph.net/thegeekfiles/2011/05/why-natalie-portman-signed-on.html)- she was totally burned out from Black Swan). They seem to have deliberately tried not to make it too 'deep' or overly serious.
Green Lantern does indeed appear to have a similar sensibility.
X-Men seems to have more weight, the connection to a grave time in history gives it substance, as does the dialogue.
At this point i don't know where they are aiming Captain America's appeal.
On a side note, I wish films in general would try harder with their dialogue and themes. So many of them just exist, with no point and no memorable elements (even Ridley Scott's Robin Hood was a total waste of time and money, for the studio and the viewer)

It's cool how you can kinda see how they're all reflecting the original first class team. Like Banshee is kinda like the Iceman of the team, a bit of a joker, and Havok is a sub for Cyclops and Mystique for Jean (the one who's loved by everyone)

Vaughn seems to be handling the humor aspect well. First Class has humor but it not campy humor that undermines the overall tone.

Expecting most commercial Hollywood films to be somewhat productive is to expect politicians to fix anything about the country.

There were no superhero-related trailers when I saw Thor last night...but it was in IMAX 3D, so...I dunno..

-The Three Musketeers
-Immortals
-Super 8
-Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides #2 (3D)
-Transformers: Dark of the Moon #1 Teaser (3D)

The fact that the narrative is integrated with a major historical event gives this movie a weight previously unseen in any Superhero movie. This movie feels important, more so than X-2, more so than TDK, it demands attention. This is not another throwaway popcorn summer pulp.

I want to see more Beast, though. We've only seen one promotional image of his blue form. Then again, I'm thinking there's some CGI that goes into his makeup, because in the trailers - especially the international theatrical - he looks way too good and fluid when he moves. And I think that'd be hard to catch in a still.

I'm so excited for this movie. Especially for the fact I didn't follow production so closely, so I don't even know what the plot is, other than the obvious forming of the school and the Cuba situation.
I just hope it does well and we get some better characters in the next one. And by better I mean characters I care about like Storm, Jean and Scott.
This movie looks like a better, more expensive X1.

:oldrazz: Too true.
Yeah, in X3 she still kinda had the voice alteration, but they made it very soft. She was also a lighter blue. The same blue she seems to be in First Class. I think Spectral Motion did her make-up for X3, and I think they also did her work on First Class to that might explain why she's a different shade again. :/

Rebecca Romijn was hired because of her 'look'. She was a model and had the physique Singer was after. This time Mystique will have more lines in one scene than she got in the whole trilogy combined, so they will have approached it as 'who can act the best' instead of 'who looks best in make-up'. Amber Heard who was rumoured during casting has more of a Mystique look, but that's not the main priority this time.

It seems like Mystique's features change with age. Her blue features that is. Her scales as a child are underdeveloped. As a late teen/young adult, they're there, but the same shade as her skin, and forty years later, her scales are a more green shade, her skin is darker and the black in her eyes is deteriorating. Perhaps they put some thought into the makeup differences?

but THIS MOVIE, going in so far I can not say anything bad about. We have two GOOD people putting it together story and visual wise, we have a WIDE array of characters who are DOING something, not just there for no reason.
These guys learned from the mistakes of the first few movies and now that they have a bit more insight they will make sure what makes the comics so great, is translated to the screen and i wish them the best of luck.

Rated PG 13 : Brief Strong Language, Some Sexuality, and a Violent Image
got that off official website
Bull.
There's no way in the world that is the real rating. Superman Returns was rated PG-13 for "some intense action violence". Are you telling me that X-Men: First Class is devoid of intense action violence or has less than Superman Returns?
In the trailer alone, we've seen Azazel slicing people with swords, Magneto killing Nazi soldiers in various ways, huge explosions, a big action sequence involving some missiles being fired, and loads of other action. There's NO WAY that this is the real rating.
That would mean that there's no action violence in this movie whatsoever. That the worst we'll see is one singular "violent image". I'm telling you right now that this is not the real rating. This doesn't even look like the rating for a superhero movie.
Look at the previous X-Men ratings:
X-Men
Rated PG-13 for sci-fi action violence.
X2
Rated PG-13 for sci-fi action/violence, some sexuality, and brief language.
X-Men: The Last Stand
Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action violence, some sexual content and language.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of action and violence, and some partial nudity.
The official website has an error. I don't know what movie that rating's for, but unless hell has frozen over and pigs are flying in the sky, this is NOT, I repeat NOT the rating for the X-Men First Class.

Okay...
The only reason I posted that is because some are supposing that it's the genuine rating and are trying to figure out what the "violent image" or the "sexuality" is.
I'm saying that the MPAA were either snorting cocaine enhanced with bleach OR it's not the real rating (which it, of course, is not the real rating).

Were you too busy checking out Wolverine's biceps ? :wow:
By the way, since there are so many attractive guys in the this movie. I'm not even sure whom I should have a crush on.
It's McAvoy, Fassbender, and Hoult for me.

Are you saying that you think the movie won't be PG-13?

When I say rating, I mean the rating and the reasons with it.
As much money as I'd bet on this rating descriptor being wrong, I'd bet twice that on the movie being PG-13.
Every superhero movie this summer will be PG-13 no doubt.

As they should?
These are movies based on comics books, sold to children.

I wasn't arguing that they shouldn't.
But I'm sure no younger people (or older ones, for that matter) expect merely a "violent image" with the language and sexual content outweighing that when they go see an X-Men movie. They expect intense action violence throughout.

No way, Ill take Rose over the blonde girls. They are all extremely hot but Rose does it for me. Personally I find her flawless.

Well we could have a threeway battle then.I will admit to not taking much notice of her before but she looks good In X-Men first Class trailers.Rose really In the trailer resembles Moira.Always a good thing when you have actress who can remind you of the comic Book version of who they are playing.

Definitely. Im much more familiar with Rose cause of 28 weeks later, Sunshine, Get Him To The Greek and Troy. All different roles and she plays them very well. Beautiful Woman. I would stop reading comics for her.

First there's a dirty joke in there somewhere. :oldrazz:
Second, I don't read too much of the threads here because I don't want to get too spoiled, only thing that I really found spoiling was in Zoe Kravitz interview about her character.
Oh man, I hadn't even considered the possibility that Fox could have ruined this film by chopping it down to 90 minutes...

Yeah, her interview was a bit too spoilery. I'd call that bit of information a pretty big plot point. :o

I dunno, you guys give FOX way too much credit...
As previously indicated, there have been plenty of FOX movies with long running times and yeah, they've hacked up a couple in the past, but from what I've gathered, for the most part, a lot of the decisions in final cuts, deleting scenes and cutting out sequences have always been directly in the hands of the director(s)...
ANY HOO, I consider this to be pretty great news, assuming it's legit and all.
