OMG! Wow people will complain about anything. Somebody on IMDB was whining cause Havok had fire from his chest and not his hands. I finally got around to taking a good look and the fire is coming from hands. Its just a really quick cut (like all of these scenes). I mean dude was ranting and raving, lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQ9AMH6OCVw

Yeah all the negativity gets tiresome. But I must say with these last few trailers it looks like people are starting to come around. But you know there are still those die hard haters who will bash for whatever reason.

It's exactly the same with movies adapted from books. I love when a director/screen writer comes up with a film that stands for itself, and doesn't have to be exactly like the book to be perfect (i.e., Atonement).

But most book lovers are such snobs, with all their "the book is always better", it's really tiresome. :o
I love the X-Men comics too, but the comics aren't always better than the films. Or maybe it's because I'm a movie lover...cinema has A LOT of power over me! :awesome:

Me too! I also love seeing the X-Men in our world. The 616 timeline with all it's time travel, aliens and cloning? It doesn't feel like reality. That's what I love about the X-Men movies. It's like X-Men... if they were real.

Exactly. The X-Men being part of our world was one of the things that made me love the films - at least the first two - so much. Damn, maybe THE MOST important thing!

That's why I'm so psyched for First Class, and the genius premise of inserting the story into the political and social context of the time. Cuban missile crisis, Kennedy, the whole 60's thing...is it amazing or what? :awesome:

That's also why I can't help looking at The Green Lantern trailers with all their aliens and space and stuff and feeling totally "meh".

What I'm hoping for with the First Class is that the sequels will probably (and hopefully) be intergrated into more of the social/political/economic worlds. Like with the 70's, they could have a homosexual relationship between two mutants (or a normal person and a mutant), and the 80's could have a mutant run for an political position (Beast perhaps, maybe someone else.) As long as they have the realism that the first2 films and First Class have.

Im really interested about that too.

I think the plots for the next sequels will be 10 times better than the original trilogy.

Cant wait for the whole trilogy already, with the x-men getting older and watching the introduction of Scott, Jean and Ororo.

Im excited about them, it would be a very special movie, definetly, specially for all the fans of the comics and the original team.

I personally think the next movie should include the death of JFK and a mutant being blamed for it and then when Johnson takes over his Secretary of Defense is Mr. Bolivar Trask. We could even see a nice cameo by William Stryker. The movie could get into the mutant registry and of course coincide with the events of the Civil Rights movement in the late 60s.

Oooh, I like that idea of a mutant being blamed for JFK's death, it could help secure a reason for Magneto (or someone) to strike. And that could be a cause for your Trask as Secretary or Defense, where he starts the Sentinel program.

Great to see a glimpse of Shaw using his power in that trailer there. He seems to be absorbing the energy from that explosion (nuclear?) and then releases/channels that absorbed energy later, where he stomps his foot and creates that explosion. Looks very cool anyway.

good idea for the sequel, chaseter.

thinking about the sequels lately made me think...

what if they decide to continue the saga just with the prequels, but not only with a trilogy?

the cast cant age too fast, so they could explore the evolution of the characters with the sequel in late 60's, as Matthew said, then another in the 70's, then the 80's one, with the introduction of Scott, Jean and Ororo, and make another sequel with them, so they would developt these awaited characters in two sequels.

If you think about it seriously, Fox and Matthew can use the new x-men actors as much as they want, they can do 3 movies, but they can do 4 too, or 5.... so the fans would finally have the loved Scott, Jean, Beast, and Ororo, during some prequels.

what do you think?

The Original Bamfer

Angamb

I know, lol

But if Fox wants to keep doing sequels, they could choose that route, instead of coming back to X4.

Id love to see the original cast again, but if they dont wanna do it, a whole series in the past would be really interesting.

We dont know if they will release a sequel three years after the other, but I they decide a two years frame, they could do 3 more movies in the next 6 years, and who knows, maybe they shoot the last two back to back.

4 movies of the whole past of the x-men seems really interesting, at least for me, specially knowing they plan to set them in the 70's and 80's too, and two sequels with Scott, Jean and Ororo would be really special, and their fans would be pleased finally.

That could happen in the sequels. They had a sentinel during the Danger Room in X3, so it's entirely possible the X-Men came across them previously and are now using them for training.

add Colussus and I would be a very happy x-fan! Piotr would fit in really well with the setting of the film and the fears of a red scare and all that. Oh and Polaris! If Havok is here, Polaris simply must be! It might be tricky to work out the daughter of Magneto angle but I want it, I must have it.

Oh please let this movie be better than Thor! I've lost faith in Cap because of Thor and I have a tiny amount of hope for the Avengers because of Joss but even that I'm worried about. X-men First Class is my most desperate hope for a fantastic comic book film in 2011.

I personally want to see an X-men movie set in the 80s sooooo bad....leg warmers and all :awesome:

Angamb
04-23-2011, 06:30 PM
They could add Colossus, yes.... but the actor in the trilogy is younger than Halle and James, right?

If they do the third movie in the 80's and introduce Scott, Jean and Ororo, that would mean three new characters to be introduced and developed.... so I think adding more could be negative. And from the trilogy, we know Collosus joined the team in X3, so it would be a mistake to make him a member in the 80's.

Id like to see a sequel giving Scott, Jean and Ororo the most development, since they are the team in X1 and Scott hadnt a good role on the trilogy.

I want Sentinels.

This is all.

Me too. I think it's best if their saved for X4 though.

My dream scenario would be to see them used in a Days of Future Past adaption.

Can you imagine a post-apocalyptic war-torn future, over run by Sentinels? :awesome:

Angamb
04-23-2011, 06:44 PM
I want them for X4 too.

The sentinels mean the biggest/more epic action the x-men could get, so it would be better to use them in X4, with a mature team.

But I think they could introduce the plot in Third class, as a new program anti-mutant, but only using one sentinel, as a first attempt; so they'll reintroduce the plot in X4, with the big attack.

Potter has already had one trailer. It was a trailer for both movies and they have been busy with advertising the dvd release of the first part.

Transformers is slacking. It just seems that the studios this year are waiting until the last minute to build up hype. Besides Potter, all of these other big films didn't release any trailers or teaser trailers until a few months before the movie came out.

I think it makes sense for most of these movies because of the sheer number of high profile movies comnig out, they'll probably just wait until 2-3 weeks out to do a campaign blitz--pretty much how Fast Five waited until the last 2 weeks to squeeze in tv spots almost on every other commercial break.

Jason Flemying interview:

Q: In the past you have done fantastic and fictional characters. What drives you to do this? Why did you make the choice to do this one?

A: To be honest, it was Matt - whether I'm the Batman or a ballerina, when he calls, I run!

Q: Was it fun to play the role and what challenges where there?

A: The fun was in the fighting - I knew very little of it would be seen, but we did 8 weeks of sword and fight training. We could have shot a whole 90 mins of Azazel battles!

Q: We all know that Azazel of the comics becomes Nightcrawler's father. Is this touched upon in the film?

A: Not yet, hope they get them together in the next one, love Alan.

Q: When figuring out your role, did you look at Alan Cumming's performance to thread a DNA to your performance as his father?

A: Alan is a friend, we were at the RSC together. I think my boy turned out pretty good, mutants should be free to love who they choose, as long as it causes no harm!

Q: How much focus will be put on the romance between Azazel and Mystique?

A: None. Unfortunately she only had eyes for Beast.

Q: Is your character a mutant or a demon like in the comic books?

A: He's a mutant - looks like a demon, but he's pure mutant!

Q: What the best bit about your character?

A: I have never had a tail before, can't beat having a tail. It's not in the movie, but you can smash anyone on the Xbox when you have two hands and a tail. It's also possible to make tea and play chess at the same time.

Q: Having appeared in a good few of Matthew Vaughn movies, would it be fair to say you are his 'good luck charm'? And bearing that in mind, how has this role differed from your experience filming his other movies?

A: He has a great core of actors and crew, we all watch out for each other, and speak shorthand amongst ourselves. We watch Mat's back, no one *****s with our governor! I'm not naturally very nomadic, so I love working with my friends.

Q: <Now you play Azazel, a character who gets a few negative reviews in the comic book world, I wondered if you maybe read anything to keep to the character or if you brought something entirely new to the role to make him more likeable?

A: My natural hair color is red, so I'm used to dodgy reviews! It's hard to make a mark in these movies, there are so many characters, but I think the bits I've got come across pretty well!

Q: I'm a big fan of your work, the shots of you in the First Class trailer looked awesome. Did you do any research and training for your character when you got the role of Azazel?

A: Thanks, mate! Nope, the make-up and fight training kind of took care of the character! Oh, and we made him Russian, just, well...it's the Cold War, and I'm a bit of an old lefty and it drives Mat mad!

Q: How was the look for your character done in the movie? Was it all CGI? Or was it make-up?

A: Make-up 4 hours on, 30 mins off, tail CGI!!

Q: If you could teleport anywhere... where would it be?

A: Right..... I seem to travel the world every week, I would LOVE to be able to teleport home to my wife every night and teleport to whatever country I'm in every morning!! I'm sooo lucky to work so much, (real secret is I'm cheap!) but I am kinda over flying long haul weekly!

so...

no connection between Azazel and Mystique yet...
no connection between Havok and Scott yet....
no love interest for Magneto yet....

when do they plan to introduce all these plots? on Second class?

I think its too much background story for the next movie...

I was unsure of how Azrael was going to fit into Beast and Mystique's story in the film, so I suppose there's one less storyline to worry about.

I think if Wanda and Pietro exist in the movieverse then Erik and Magda and the incident with the angry mob will have already happened.

I don't think all of these plots are supposed to be explained in the films. You should just see the similarities between the characters and come to your own conclusions.

In the star wars prequels and even Wolverine, all the character appearances and relationships were just too convenient and came off cheesy.

We already know Nightcrawler and Mystique had a moment together in X2, they also have physical similarities. She is attracted to beastly men, she tried to seduce Logan in X2, we know she will have something going on with Beast in the new movie. So after she turns to the dark side its not far fetched to think she may hook up with Azazel.

In the comics Cyclops and Havok didn't know that they were brothers when they first met each other as adults. So it makes sense that Havok isn't aware of Scott's existence (or if he's not born yet, his birth parents).

I will be disappointed if nothing is hinted at about Azazel and Mystique's relationship... and then Nightcrawler. I don't want a full plot, but I wanted something to justify them using his character.

When they first announced his Azazel in the movie, i was SURE that it was going to be a cameo. Then it turned out he was a real character, and I was a little bit WTF but then I thought "hey they're really doing everyone's origins (Nightcrawler)".

At least Azazel looks cool and we can visually make the connection to Nightcrawler. I just hope people don't think he's just a rip-off from X2 (even if it's a prequel).

I don't want most of these characters in the sequel, so I want it wrapped up now! If I had my way, Banshee and Darwin would go off with Moira, Angel would leave because it's not her thing, and Havok would sacrifice himself because he can't control his powers anyways. This would be Xavier's huge failure so he wouldn't continue with creating the school until he meets Alex's baby brother (in need of help)... then he creates the real First Class!

You do realize actors can lie In Interviews.Especilly If told not to give up secrets.
There was report from a tipper Azarel devolps Intrest In Mystique.

Jennifer Lawrence has let slip Mystique has crush on Magneto.Michael Fassbender coyly seemed to hint while not a full Magneto/Mystique we could see the planting of seeds to lead to It.In trailer Mystique Is In Someone's bed when she turns to blue form.I have thought that may be Magneto's bed.

The entire COnception and birth of Nightcrawler probally happens between the end of first Class and the second part of trilogy.Matthew Vaughn wants the next one to be set In late 60's/Early 70's.Bryan Singer has said they are talking about jumping to 1970's In next chaper(with a jump to 1980's for final part of trilogy)

Cyclops Isn't born yet.A young cyclops wouldn't come Into trilogy till the final part when they jump to 1980's.Havoc may not even be around when that happens. He might be In
Second class but not when they finally get to the point of the class people are Intrested
In.

josh8
04-26-2011, 02:18 PM
i hope they fudge the timeline and we can believe that the original X-Men movie was in the 90s. I mean it's hard enough to accept that the movie takes place around 2010 with Magneto being an 80 yr old villain.

That way Havok could have a baby brother (Cyclops) in the 60s who was sent into foster care or something. And then we could get Cyclops, Jean, and Storm by having the sequel jump about 10-15 yrs. It's not too hard to make McAvoy look older since he'll be bald and add some grey to Fassy's hair and we're done!

BMM

2010? I don't think it was ever implied that X-Men was supposed to take place that far in the not too distant future.

I have also vied X-Man and X2(and The Last Stand If you want to Include It) as taking
place In the early 2000's but If they wanted to they could say they actully took place
In the middle or late 1990's.

The sequel will probally take place In early 70's and mostly Involve the first Class actors
with the third film set In early 80 to mid 80's.

They might not even have Xavier decide to open the school till the end of second film.

I certainly hope they don't ahve Magneto form the first version of the brotherhood till
Cyclops and Jean are Introduced as Students.

X1 was in the early 2000s and X2 and X3 happened a few months each after one another so the latest I see those films stretching to is 2001-2002. Even in X2 they had an Nsync song that came out in 2000 as well as a Mazda RX8 that was available in 2001.

Jean, Scott, and Storm were in their mid to late 30s. Magneto and Charles were in their 60s. Mystique, Beast, and Wolverine are of course pretty much ageless because of their prosthetics and mutant abilities.

So if Jean, Scott, and Storm were to come along in a sequel to this, they could have easily been born in the early 60s and be teens in a movie set in the early 70s.

Also I really could care less if they fudged the ages a bit. I mean I don't want to see a 30 year old Storm in 1969 but a 15 year old Storm is fine.

if they were born in the 60's, they should set the sequel around 1975, so their age would be appropiated to have a a better development of the characters and have decent action.

I really doubt Fox use 10 years old actors to portray Scott, Jean and Ororo during the whole movie.

no way!! lol

Well Andrew Garfield is nearly 30 and he is playing a 17ish year old in the Spider-Man reboot!

You know who would be fantastic as a kid in an X-Men movie...that girl who played Hit Girl. There are some really good young actors out there. Even the kid who played Percy Jackson would make a great young Cyclops.

Have any of you considered that, much like Bryan Singer intented, Mystique simply won't be Nightcrawler's mother?

The Original Bamfer
04-26-2011, 05:50 PM
Um, there was a deleted scene in 'X2' that heavily hinted to the fans of the source material that Mystique is, indeed, Kurt's mother in the film-verse as well. You know the scene - where she's going through Deathstryke's files and see's Kurt's files and looks visibly shocked and upset.

Also, there'd really be little point in having Azazel in the films unless they wanted to show or hint at Kurt's conception since he's basically the exact same character physically, only red and with more digits.

protocida
04-26-2011, 06:04 PM
But it was cut, leaving us with no feasible evidence that Mystique is Nightcrawler's mother. Besides, Azazel could easily be the father and someone else is the mother. Mystique will probably have no place in Nightcrawler's conception.

wow, its really curious you say that, because I watched 3:10 to Yuma last weekend, and he was there (but I didnt remember he was in Percy...) and I thought he would be a nice Cyclops... I looked his imdb profile, and he had 17 years when he did 3:10....

so again, I think thats a good age for young Scott, Jean and Ororo.

12 years, on the other side, its not a great idea, in my opinion :woot:

They wouldn't put a mutant like Azazel in this movie just to be Nightcrawlers dad, Nightcrawler wasn't even that important of a character in the 3 movies. So they clearly included him in this because they are go into a little of Mystiques origin and have Azazel be a part of it. I doubt they would just put him in and knock up some other chick.

scene with both Azazel and Mystique on the beach and Azazel wanting her to have his baby
it seems a bite early to be addressing that, anyway... maybe at some point in the series, or by the end of the last movie have her pregnant, but, she’s still suppose to be pretty young in this one (isn't she?) I mean, I know in the comics she’s much older (but, this is the movie-verse, not the comics)
as it is, she already seems to have a thing going on with beast, and she mentioned in an interview that she has a crush on Magneto…

and despite being played by, Cummings, who was born in the 60's, Nightcrawler was suppose to be much younger in the movie...

Nice interview with Lucas Till at http://movies.ign.com/articles/116/1164345p1.html

He gets a 'power origin' scene too...

When Havok first discovers his power in this one it's because his foster sister has been kidnapped by a bully and who is threatening her with death and all of a sudden he comes out and kills this guy. He's a guy who likes a fight, but also, he doesn't want that much of a fight. He doesn't want to accidentally kill people, and that's something he's always got to deal with. He likes the power but he doesn't like the lack of control he has over his ability.

The Original Bamfer

Well, we don't know he gets a scene. They may just reference his origin. Like, if Xavier and Magneto do pick him up at the jail, for example, they could hear about what happened from one of the guards.

Really? Maybe its just Jennifer Lawrence being that much of a "better actress" than Rebecca Romijn but she's looking very unsexy, unMystique-like especially in that group shot. She's looking like she's a man in drag.

heres some more

And by that i mean to say that if this is their way of showing Mystique's metamorphosis from a caterpillar to a butterfly, then Jennifer must be that good. LOL

1. love that there is finally an Xmen movie without wolverine hogging all the screen time going over the same character conflict again and again, and using his now done to death claws.

this feels so fresh.

2. I can't believe fox isn't showing us the jackman cameo in this, the final trailer.
(he does make a cameo, it actually makes sense story wise and even more importantly for fox, money wise) Without jackman this might appear like a cheaper movie to the general public.

I love how Mystique got some focus in this trailer. It was about Erik, Charles, Mystique, the team, mutants and humanity. It was certainly more well-rounded. I loved all the new footage, of course. Everything looks brilliant, and the effects have come a long way. I love the suits a lot. Oh, Emma's diamond effect looks way better, too. And Angel's wings unfurling is very cool. I could go on about everything, really. The reuse of the music didn't bother me.

The purpose of a cameo (a REAL cameo) is to be hidden, an easter egg, an appearance that isn't expected, supposed to be a surprise, or not highlighted or mentioned beforehand.

So, why would they ever show a supposed Wolverine cameo as part of an advertisement? It'll seem to be ruin the point of the cameo and might be interpreted as false advertising as well...

New information from the cast's Q&A.

Beast creates a serum from Mystique's DNA in order to hide his ape-like feet, but it triggers a second mutation that turns his entire body blue and furry.
Banshee shows signs of having a little crush on Moira McTaggart as a nod to their relationship in the comic books. He also learns how to fly and use his supersonic scream to melt objects with Charles Xavier's assistance.
Xavier and Magneto have a little bit of a rivalry to see who's the leader of the X-Men, and Magneto often hints at Xavier that, although Xavier is the brains behind their operation, Magneto is their most powerful member and their trump card.
Angel Salvadore betrays the X-Men and joins Sebastian Shaw's Hellfire Club.

-it seems our heroes are recruited by the cia
-the (US) humans turn on the mutants at the very end, via vote and kills two birds with one stone.

-missiles are launched by michael ironside.
-beast saves them at first with the jet, he's down and mystic is sad

-Xavier is crippled, probably by the fallout
-or even juicier, a helmet wearing magneto and charles have a falling out on the beach over the incident.

-Mag is in red by the end
-Xavier is in a wheel chair
-friends ever still.

I never said I didn't like anything. And this isn't a country, it's a message board. You can respond to someone without putting said response in multiple spoiler tags to try and mock my legitimate request that you mask certain, huge spoilers to the film. When you encase two words in endless spoiler tags it becomes spam, and it won't be tolerated.

I would also advise that you discontinue testing the waters. It'd be in your best interest.

In my opinion, this will be the underdog comic book movie of the summer. As more and more footage comes out, I get more excited. However, I do feel that the line up of characters is completely random (which I'm sure and hope they make sense of it in the film). While watching the trailers, it made me think of how epic it would've been if Cyclops, Jean, and Storm would've been in it. But I won't complain, this movie actually looks decent so far.

Hmmm...I don't think he really affirmed it would happen in the first film:

James’ character was famously played by Sir Patrick Stewart in the X-Men series. The star admits that when future spin-offs of the X-Men prequel are made, he isn’t sure how the Professor’s hair loss will be documented.

“Maybe he gets really f**king psychotic and goes on a Taxi Driver rampage,” laughed James in an interview with Empire.
