I really, really loved Chris Hemsworth as Thor. He was such a badass. So, the question has to be asked. Is he cooler than Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man?!

I'm not talking about the movie. I'm talking about the characters and the actors who portray them.

No. Thor might be very entertaining alright, but if we're talking cool, IM takes the biscuit.

Why? Tony Stark is funny and charming, but so is Thor. The guy was a riot. And he charmed the pants out of Natalie Portman. Plus, he's a monster on the battle field. I don't know, dude. I think Robert Downey, Jr. better watch his back in The Avengers.

It's a tie. I can't decide. Both were great choices for their roles. Stark has a cool personality but I don't think it would fly on Asgard. Thor has the Asgard swag

I think Thor is cool without trying to be. There's the difference. Tony Stark is very aware of his coolness. Thor just IS.

Well Thor might be funny and charming, okay, but Tony Stark is Robert Downey Jr. You can be an actor, but that doesn't mean you're automatically comparable to Daniel Day-Lewis.
Now, charming the pants put of Portman's girl character is not the same thing as do it with that really sophisticated and caring woman such as Pepper Potts who, unlike Portman's character, has a charisma.
But okay, let's have Tony Stark having to defend his territory in Avengers. So far it's the most exciting thing i've heard about that movie.
I'd say they are both very cool but in different ways. Tony is more of a arrogant ******* that gets by on having equal metric **** tons of money and charm. Thor is a flat out bad ass (even without his powers) and he has that royal gentlemen type charm.

for me i like thor more than iron man as a character. so i say thor is cooler than iron man. thor is a beast, thor knows how to fight with or without mjolnir, stark is pretty much a sitting duck without his suit.

True, true. I can't wait to see them on-screen together. The dynamic will be fascinating. I just hope they don't re-write the characters to give them a different persona or something.

I'm biased, not just because of Thor, but the same thing he does are done at Renaissance faires and working at one for 13 years, Thor tops Tony in that category every time. :D

I chose tie. Tony is charming because he is the dick with a heart of gold. Thor is charming in the chivalric sense. Both characters are humorous, but for Tony it boils down to sarcasm and wit. For Thor, his humor comes from being placed in odd situations that he does not understand: Thor goes through a lot of culture shock, which is fun to watch.
As for actor portrayals, as much as I loved Hemsworth's take on the mighty Asgardian, Downey Jr. takes it. It is as if RDJR was born to play Tony Stark. In fact, many people on these forums noted that it was like watching RDJR play a fantasy version of himself, which I feel lends itself to believing him in the role. Hemsworth rocked the screen though. Make no mistake about it.

It's not quite as awesome as the first Iron Man, but it's close. And that puts it leagues ahead of Iron Man 2.

As many have said, it's really hard to compare the two films, because they're both completely different from each other. Iron Man has more of a technological side, where Thor had a mythological side. Both for me were entertaining, and I like them pretty much about the same. Iron Man is probably a little more enjoyable for me, because it's believable, and the way technology was incorporated into it was fantastic. Overall though, both were fun films.

Thor was mostly funny and charming because of his ignorance of human life and other completely accidental things...Tony Stark is charming because he knows how to work people. Tony is cooler.

I'll put down "tie" since this is the Thor board and Hemsworth is the man.
But come on, no one on Gods green earth is cooler than Robert Downey Jr. And I'm not saying that as an Iron Man fanatic.

God ... no wonder they called this place the "hype". That's all you guys do. This lot of fans has such short memory banks. I remember last year reading here people saying Iron Man 2 was way better than the original right after it came out, while to most none punch drunk love with the new thing people knew it wasn't even close to its predecessor.
Same goes here.
Thor was a little charming at times ...
But you're comparing him to Robert Downey Jr. The range he has in his performance as Tony Stark is what made the entire movie. Not his scenes in a mechanized robot suit, but his character arc scenes.
Downey Jr's Stark had a wider emotional range, and was just flat out more charasmatic and bad ass. Funny, emotional, the whole nine yards. Still one of the standards, along side Bale's Bruce / Batman, Reeve's Clark / Superman, and Bana's Banner / Hulk, Snipes' Blade for my money ...

No one will be cooler than Iron Man, but Thor isn't really supposed to be a "cool" character. He's supposed to be a daring, yet a little brash, and cocky God-like hero who typically has a heart of gold and always tries to do the right thing.
Tony Stark is a playboy supergenius alcoholic....you can't get cooler than that. :p

Total opposite end of the nerd spectrum.
He's just naturally gifted with intelligence. He almost does everything within his power to negate his natural abilities because he's so cool and reckless.
Bruce Banner?

Thor? Entitled jock like 1st born ...
The mythos and world he inhabits and the names of stuff? Now THAT'S nerdy and dorky.

Tony Stark doesn't act like a regular nerd but when it comes to the core of his character, he's a nerd. He's almost antisocial and works in his garage doing technological wonder. Not even Bruce Banner (if we use the comics as basis) is as good as Tony in computing or doing what today's geek is about. Banner is a traditional science lab geek specializing in Physics and Radiation, Stark is a garage geek doing software & mechanical engineering.

RDJ as Tony Stark is pretty much the coolest mofo in cinema right now.
I'm not taking anything away from Hemsworth's performance as Thor (because it was great!), but nobody can top RDJ in my book. :)

like i said before, i always liked thor more than iron man. before the iron man movie came out most people didn't care about tony stark, that includes me. i was never an iron man fan. i liked the mutant side of things in the marvel universe when i started reading comics or the cosmic stuff. iron man and the avengers were the stuff i never got into back then. but i always liked thor, his solo titles, he had some cool space stuff and i always liked norse mythology.
so for me i say thor is cooler than iron man, i just always liked thor. the movie could have turned out like crap and i still would have picked thor. i just like the character way more than iron man.
now im just waiting for dc's green lantern. then hopefully some more cosmic stuff from marvel. would be nice if they got the silver surfer back.
