That might happen, but only time will really tell. Whedon is prob somewhat constrained due to what came before him, but it'll be interesting to see how much creativity he has.

I think we'll be blown away by what Whedon can do with the amount of money Avengers will get for it's budget. I'm pretty sure he's never done anything close to this scale before, yet all of his previous works look great!

- The film is chock full of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents (most wearing the standard black suit while others wear specialized outfits) with the most prominent given names from Marvel Comics mythology including: Alexander Goodwin Pierce, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wendell Vaughn, Jasper Sitwell, Clay Quartermain, Jack Truman, Abigail Brand, Larry Young & Jimmy Woo.
- Along with the famous headquarters airship known as the Helicarrier, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents will be piloting a more tactical aircraft; though it is unknown whether it will be The Avengers' Quinjet or the yellow/red S.H.I.E.L.D. "Flying Car"
- Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) will finally get his time to shine while leading a S.H.I.E.L.D. force during the film's penultimate battle scene
- S.H.I.E.L.D. agents will brandish plenty of "future tech" weaponry including a modified plasma sidearm and accompanying shoulder-fired rifle (more than likely to help with the PG-13 rating). Though it is unknown how much of a presence they will have, several cosmic artifacts will be reasoning behind the creation of these weapon systems.

I hope during the battle scenes that the SHIELD agents wear something similar to the comic costume. That costume isn't outlandish, so I don't see why Marvel would avoid using it.

Agreed. I expect them to spend over 200 mil on Avengers, though. It's their only film next year, and previous history shows when that happened with IM2, it got a 200mil budget. Avengers I expect to get a higher budget than that."
I read that it was $170 million ....
Thanks to cincinnati.com, we now have a little more information about the estimated budget of the 2012 summer superhero blockbuster along with a few more details about filming in Ohio:
Kristen Erwin, who is the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Film Commission executive director, has stated that The Avengers will have an estimated budget of $170 million and will be spending about $30 million in Ohio alone.
Erwin also stated that they will shoot in Ohio for two weeks. She could not reveal an exact location, but did say that it would be within 30 miles of Cincinnati and that they're "still negotiation a location agreement" with Marvel Studios.
In short, Cleveland and Southwestern Ohio will be the two main spots for filming of The Avengers when they visit the state.

Every since I read that Avengers would be shooting in the Cinci. area I have been super psyched!!! Within a 30 mile radius of Cinci. no less. Guess where I live, in Hamilton, about 30 miles north of Cinci. I called and spoke to the lady thats the Executive Director of the Cinci./Northern KY Film commission today. She informed me that the shoot will take place NORTH of Cinci!!! Be still my heart!!! I asked about if they were gonna need extras and such, she said it wouldn't be until August, and she didn't know what kind of scenes they were, or if extras would be needed. She advised me to follow the local newscasts for info about casting extras, it would get out that way. Sooooo f*$#king psyched!!!!!!!! Theres a place about 3 miles from my house (old industrial park), that i've been looking at for years saying, ' boy, wouldn't that be a great location for a film shoot!' I hope they need extras of all ages so I can get me and my 4 yr. old involved. He would be soooo excited!

I'm a big fan of the bard and I loved that Hamlet. He is an amazingly transformative actor, but not even a character actor, he just seems to be able to bring a lot of unique emotional intensity and range to his characters. It's awesome because not only do you get to enjoy each of his characters as their own, living entity but then when you see him talking normally as himself he's still quite different from all his characters but just as awesome. Having him involved with ANY Marvel film would just be a huge, huge boost to the MCU. I could really probably see him in many roles (before Ruffalo was cast, I thought he'd be a good Banner too), but Dr Strange definitely fits to me. He can play brooding and disconnected really well, and there are a lot of similarities between Strange and The Doctor as far as their grand importance goes. I don't think Strange is quite as tragic and lonely a figure as The Doctor though, or as self loathing.
Btw, out of curiosity, does anyone know how Doctor Who has been received in America? That is a franchise that deserves to be so much bigger (although it's perfect the way it is now anyway).
The Infernal
05-14-2011, 06:28 AM
I'm not against Shakespeare so much, but I can find it a bit hard to understand at times. But I do like watching Brannagh's films (I liked Much Ado), plus I really want to see that one with Brian Blessed where they've changed the setting to feudal Japan.
I agree with what you're saying about Tennant. I wasn't sure if he was a character actor though, that's something I associate more with largely comedic actors like Ronnie Barker (doubt much of his stuff made it abroad though). Plus I couldn't really tell what the exact definition of it was, but my guess was that he wasn't quite doing that. Still he's definitely one I keep an eye out for if he's in movies.
Though funnily enough I've not seen Macbeth, but I've seen Akira Kurosawa's version of it 'Throne of Blood'.

Merely pointing out that from my perspective, having only read a couple of Batman comics, Robin looks like the lamest character ever. No, the embargo is putted not only on the scoop, but on some movie details, such as movie stills, interviews, pre-vis stuff & such, since you're working with Disney & other distributors in general and they don't tolerate leaked things or some classified information, until they set the proper date, on when the info goes online.

Working on Green Lantern sequels and The Flash. Developing Aquaman. Who knows what else? We only know Aquaman because the actor who played him on Smallville let it slip. Just because they aren't like Feige saying "Yep. Next is Avengers. Then we're doing Ant-Man. We also have people working on this, this, and this." doesn't mean they're doing nothing. I don't see why you'd assume they're doing nothing when they already had Green Lantern into production about a year after forming, which is a task that never managed to pan out before then.
Not to turn the topic to DC. Just something I wanted to get out there.

I like Aquaman more than Namor, but two brash long-haired, bearded blonde, badass royals from fantasy kingdoms must be too much for audiences to handle at the moment. We're going to enter a point where there'll be a bit of a film arms race between DC and Marvel, Green Lantern will put off Nova (not that I care about Nova, because I've never had any real exposure to him), and Doctor Strange would put off Fate (I gotta admit Fate has a cooler costume).
So yeah, off-topic, but that's what happens when we won't have much more to discuss until July with Cap in cinemas and SDCC.

How about Mandy Moore for the love interest?
The last post I saw before this was about Loki, the cube, and Skrulls. So this made me laugh ridiculously hard. :woot:
If anyone wants to talk about Aquaman, this thread could use some new life.

I envision her more as the Flash's girlfriend, Iris. But she'd be a cool Mera.

+ the rumored teaser-trailer with Loki using the Cosmic Cube & summoning the Skrulls (that Latinoreview guys have mentioned long time ago) should be attached to Captain America's release. AWESOME! :awesome:

They should get James Cameron and Vincent Chase to star.
This! :woot:

I don't think that Loki and cube teaser for Avengers is true. It was already pretty much the post credit scene in Thor. Except the Skrulls.
All I need is a flash of the faces of all the team members and a simple group shot (they don't even need to be in costume) then I'm good.

Exactly, all they need to do in July is give us this shot, and I'll be a sublimely happy camper.

I want a Youtube-quality video on the bigscreen after Cap's credits of Barton and Stark teaching Thor and Rogers to play God of War.

I actually posted that a while back as a type of group shot I'd like to see.
I'm thinking in terms of positioning:
Kirk: Rogers
Bones: Stark
Chekov: Banner
Uhura or Scotty: Black Widow
Sulu or Scotty or Uhura: Thor

I just now noticed Spock's absence from that photo. So let's say he's Nick Fury, the one they're all looking at, lol.

Wasn't it already the Thor post-credits scene? That's the scene AICN was describing involving Loki and the cosmic cube.
@littleylittley: Rumors that The Avengers + 2nd Captain America trailers were set to debut in front of Thor - Not happening, Delayed.
- And the Avengers trailer, that you were talking about, is the one with Tom Hiddleston as Loki?
@littleylittley: Total Loki, yes.
Sure, this guy was dead wrong, when it came to Thor cameo in Iron Man 2, but he was the first one to break the info, that Thor trailer will debut on Yahoo with the exact time (& that happened to be true).

That's their reaction shot when he returns to the bridge after having been proved emotionally compromised.
I'd be curious as to what the first photo could be. If it's from an action scene then it might be hard picking for Marvel to locate an ensemble shot (perhaps a reaction shot of all of them like that Trek photo). If it's from a dramatic scene then I don't expect everyone to wear their costume, and the Hulk's CGI is months from completion.

Honestly? Just get a wall, have each actor stand by it in costume (as a group or individually and photoshopped in after) and that would be more than enough for 99% of the fans IMHO

Not individually and photoshopped. That would end up looking like the crappy X-Men First Class poster. They can just have a group publicity shot (I'm sure they'll have many) in costume. It doesn't have to be a still. It's not like they don't already have their costumes ready. It can be their existing ones, and not necessarily any new costumes they may have for the upcoming movie. We would still get the gist of it and it would look awesome with all of them together. Also, it doesn't necessarily need to have Ruffalo as Hulk in the picture. He can just be Banner. That would still be fine.

DC Entertainment is doing The Man of Steel, the Dark Knight Rises, Wonder-Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern 2, Green Lantern 3 and Justice League of America.
It's quite a lot.
The sad thing is, of those 8 movies, how many are set in the same cinematic universe?

Yes it is, I was hoping for Man of Steel to be set in the same universe as Green Lantern but so much for that.

Well unlike Marvel Studios, in regards to the JL film, there's no intentions on using any of the actors who have/will play central JL members (Superman/Batman/Green Lantern) into that film, so it'll make that it much more harder for the GA to perhaps understand that the characters in the JL aren't related to the same characters (in name) from other films, let alone the fact that there's no build up to the JL film.

Definately BT; I can [to some degree - although I dont like it] understand Nolan's view that Batman should be separate from Superman as he doesnt want to compromise the psuedo-realistic world he's created with 'space/alien stuff' but keeping Green Lantern separate from Supes?
Not exactly a case of chalk and cheese, is it - how the hell is it any anyones interest to keep those two properties apart?
WB is just making things far more complicated than they need to be, as usual.
