Welcome to "One Universe: Independents Edition"
Season I

This RPG is similar to almost all others on Superhero Hype boards, except in this continuity, the Independent comic Universes have been merged as "One Universe".

Gamemasters: Wiegeabo, Byrd Man, Carnage27

RULES

You may play as up to two characters not applicable in any DC, Marvel, or Star Wars oriented RPG's. HOWEVER there are certain rules that apply:

Your character may not come from a book series that has a premise alien to the norm of a comic book world, or a book that has a defined end(i.e. no Watchmen, V for Vendetta, etc) However, if your can make your character fit into the predetermined world, you will be considered for approval.

Your character may not come from the future. Meaning no Star Trek or Firefly. However, time traveling characters such as The Doctor are allowed. Basically, if your character can fit in the modern world, it’s a go. Also, keep in mind this applies to stories as well.
No manga characters. They just don’t fit in with the world.
Keep in mind, the general public of this world is not aware of the odd things happening in the universe. They know there was vigilantes before, but at this point that was over half a century ago. Your first story should be an origin story.
Also, do to trying to keep heroes/villains/storylines with a low profile at the beginning of the game, we’re going to have a ban on Transformers characters. At least for a while.

Modern versions of the classic age heroes/pulp heroes listed in the “Story so Far” above are allowed. However, you must keep with the feel of the originals. Meaning no making a modern Rocketeer that’s basically Iron Man. This is a game to play new characters you’ve never tried before.
Applications must be approved by a game staffer before being considered accepted. Unless a staffer has a problem with it, then the app requires 2 approvals. If you post in the IC thread beforehand, your post is subject to deletion. Game staffers reserve the right to deny applications for any given reason.
You must post once every two weeks, or your character is up for grabs to anyone else. If you know that you cannot post for two weeks or more, please specify in this thread ahead of time.
You are your character, so act like it. Remain consistent with their powers and personalities, unless otherwise stated. Freedom in writing is a key, but so is honoring the character you've chosen. Become your character.
You can travel anywhere on Earth, or off-planet, provided it's within your character's means.
No random killing. All characters being played, non-playable characters being used, or major characters in general requires special permission to be killed from their players. Failure to comply with this will result in immediate termination of your character rights.
Be serious. No slander, or impractical actions, such as never falling during battle, or enslaving the Earth. If confused, look to your fellow players for guidance on how to practically play the game.
All regular Hype rules apply, needless to be said.
And most important of all, have fun with it.

The Story So Far…

The setting of this story is Earth…the third planet away from the star denoted Sol. But the planet is much more than a planet with the ideal conditions for sentient life. It is much more than a place where the human race has grown to reach for the stars. No, this is no simple planet. Earth has been marked from the very beginning of existence as a battle ground between good and evil, as the planet is the nexus of all the planes of existence in the mutliverse.

From early on, the planet was visited by ancient and powerful extraterrestrials who were drawn by the planet’s obvious mystical power. Why they left, if they ever did, will never be known, at least to the common man…

The human race, through its time on Earth, has always been swayed easily by the powerful mystical forces that flow around the planet. Evil wizards and warlords have always risen up to take its power for their own, but champions of the human race have always risen to thwart their plans. The earliest champion of Earth was Conan the Barbarian, who roamed the ancient lands. Then in the 16th century, Solomon Kane roamed the Earth to rid it of evil creatures and men.

In the late 19th century, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was formed to combat world threats. They were considered the greatest group of heroes ever formed…to those that knew of their existence.

As the Earth’s history progressed, evil began to strengthen its hold on the planet, almost if willed by some unseen force. This came to a head in the 1930s. Evil emanated from Germany in the form of the Third Reich, and it stretched across the world, even if the Reich failed to do so. Organized crime ran rampant and a new form of hero was needed to combat it. It was during this time that the vigilante was born. Heroes like Doc Savage, The Shadow, The Phantom Detective, The Spider, and The Rocketeer rose to fight the new injustices and fight back the tide of evil.

But it was during this time that possibly the most significant happening in the Earth’s history occurred. In a last ditch attempt to win the war, Hitler turned to the extremely powerful mystic Rasputin and to Project Ragna Rok. The projects goal was to call forth a demon that would crush the Nazis’ opponents and usher in a new age. Fortunately, the ceremony to call forth the evil was interrupted by a US Army contingent accompanied by Professor Trevor Bruttenholm. The Nazis were routed and Rasputin was seemingly killed when he was sucked through the portal which he had created.

Ragna Rok was a failure for the Nazis, but it did produce one of Earth’s greatest heroes: Hellboy. The demon was rescued and cared for by Bruttenholm, and the two went on to form the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense in the United States. An organization which to this day protects the Earth from ancient and all evil forces.

After World War II came to an end, the Earth seemingly settled back into a state of calm, but I reality, the lines between good and evil began to blur. Public officials began to become corrupt. Those that would once be looked at as moral centers fell from grace. Governments and corporations began testing on human subjects to create super soldiers that would ensure their dominance. Experiments that will have powerful implications in the days to come.

The time is now, and evil is once again ready to make its move. A man clad in black wakes up in the Arizona desert, confused and unaware on how he got there. All he knows is that he has a mission. A mission to bring about the Apocalypse. Far across space, a long forgotten evil festers, ready to strike at a planet it has been to once before. A ninja warlord and his minions wage war on the terrified people of New York. Ancient magical artifacts of terrible power still lie in wait for someone foolish enough to release their power. The powers of hell begin to reach out to the living world to start a conquest. And all over the world, men in black suits are seen observing all of this, as well as the formation of the Earth’s heroes.

And heroes are being born. Hellboy still protects the people and world he was created to destroy, along with the BPRD, led now by a man whose name is synonymous with adventure. A special task force is set up by the United States government to weed out terrorism. In the sewers of Manhattan, a clandestine group of giant, talking turtles prepares to take the fight to those that spread injustice. Young men and women all over the country wake up to find that they have incredible powers. A green, human-like creature wakes up in a burning field in America with no memory. A man that was once a hero on Earth now walks it as a Hellspawn, but continues to hope for a release from his bonds of servitude. A blue box appears in London, carrying what looks like a man and his friends. And many more champions of good will rise to combat this new wave of evil.

Soon, battle lines will be drawn, and the ultimate battle of good and evil will be waged. The only question is what part will you play in this. What side will you choose in the One Universe: Independents Edition!

Important Governmental, Metahuman, and Paranormal Organizations in the Independent Universe

BPRD – The Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense is an above top secret government agency created by President Harry S Truman after the end of World War II. It was built around Professor Trevor Bruttenholm and Hellboy as a means to detect, study, and combat paranormal and super-human threats to the human race without the general populace ever knowing about them. In the recent years, at the advent of a metahuman surge and alien visitation, the BPRD is busier than ever. Now led by Dr. Henry “Indiana” Jones Jr., the BPRD stands as a force for good against evil.(Basically, consider the BPRD this Universe’s SHIELD)

G.I. Joe – A fledgling anti-terrorism black-ops organization created by the US Government. Its agents combat threats that are of an earthly and human nature, in contrast with BPRD’s other worldly and super human defense.

COBRA – A terrorist organization that rose to prominence in the early 90s as an anit-American military group. But the group became truly infamous when it was revealed that they help plan and finance the actions of September 11, 2001. Led by the mysterious Cobra Commander, they continue their nefarious operations from their unknown base.

Men in Black – Who are they? Who do they work for? What do they fight for? All that’s known is that these mysterious men have started showing up at strange happenings across the world, and those that have direct contact with them have no memory of the recollection, and some are never seen again.

The Company – Another mysterious and nebulous entity that seems to be incredibly interested in the emergence of metahumans.

Just curious, how far are we allowed to go towards reinvention?

I can understand not completely changing a character, but what if you want to take him/her in a different direction from the comics? Are we allowed to start up from the (relative) beginning?

I say go for it. As long as the basic essentials of the character are there.

Yea, that's definitely cool. A new origin and direction is fine.

Character you'd like to portray: Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: No powers, but Hannibal is a master tactician. A former member of the Army, Hannibal is also an excellent shot with most manners of weapons.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): The A-Team was a limited series that appeared in Marvel Comics, as well as The A-Team had a daily strip in the UK comic Look-In

Fictional history of the character:

Born in 1960, John Smith had a rowdy childhood and faced a jail sentence of 10 years for Grand Theft Auto when he was 18. The judge gave Smith a simple choice, either go to jail or join the army.

After enlisting and going through bootcamp, Smith rose quickly through the Army's ranks and his once rowdy behavior was channeled into an effective soldier and commanding officer. His tendency for successful battle tactics earned him the nickname Hannibal, after the famous leader.

In the late 90's, Smith joined the Army's Special Forces. His four-man commando team was made up of Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck, Captain H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock, and Sgt. B.A. Baracus. Smith was commissioned as a Colonel when the US invaded Iraq during the start of Operation: Iraqi Freedom. Hannibal and his men pulled over thirty successful missions during the occupation of Iraq. In 2010, Hannibal's team were commissioned by US Army General Russell Morrison and the CIA to steal a printing press that had fallen into Iraqi hands and was being used to counterfeit $100 bills.

Their robbery was a successful one, with the four-man group stealing the printing press right out from under the Iraqi's noses.

After the extraction, Hannibal was shocked to learn that Morrison had died in a car crash and their CIA contact, Agent Lynch, denied any knowledge of the robbery, and claimed the men had acted on their own accord. Hannibal and his men where charged with the crime and had to stand trial before a military trial board. They were all stripped of their ranks and sentenced to twenty years in prison. The night before they were to be shipped out to a military prison, they escaped into the night.

Cobra Island

I've got the T-Virus strapped to my back as I run through Cobra's compound. Face is running point while B.A. and Murdock bring up the rear.

"How far are we from the plane?"

"'bout three clicks east."

"Damn. Okay, we'll veer off this path and into the jungle th-"

"Wait a minute. Where are the guards?"

We all stop in our tracks. We've been so busy running, nobody has noticed the guards, or lack thereof.

"Do ya'll hear that," B.A. asks as he fingers the trigger of his AK.

From the path, a gigantic figure appears.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a330/HypsterJB/Nemesis.jpg

"Holy ****..."

"...A-Team.."

Whatever....it is, slowly walks down the path towards us.

"A-Team, fire at will."

We let loose with our AK-47s, emptying four clips into the monster. It collapses on the ground.

"Okay, let's head on down this path and-"

"...A-Team..."

The monster pulls itself up and unslings a gattling gun from its back.

"Of course, you know this means war!"

Before any of us can say anything to Murdock, the monster lets loose with the weapon.

Bratatata

I hit the ground and crawl away as Face, B.A., and Murdock scatter into the jungle with bullets nipping at their heels. The monster focuses on them, allowing me to run after them into the trees.

"Hannibal to A-Team. Sit-rep, people."" I mutter into my communicator as I feel the bullets whizzing by my head.

"We're a half-click South through the jungle."

"I found an old storage shed."

With the monster lumbering after me, I trek through the jungle and come across a rusted old supply shed. B.A. lets me in and bars the door behind me.

"That should buy us some time."

"But not much. That....thing is unstoppable."

"With the way it's stomping through the jungle, we should be able to hear it coming a mile away."

I start to glance around the supply shed.

"Check this out. They've got tar and asphalt."

"Probably for their airstrip.

"There's some old building stuff here, too. Roofing nails, nuts and bolts....along with some old blasting caps. Musta been when they were building this place."

My pulse starts to slowly rise as I think. I light a cigar and start to pace the floor wildly.

"Tar, asphalt, roofing nails, nuts and bolts Blasting caps, yeah...."

"Danger, danger, Will Robinson!"

"Uh-oh..."

"Hannibal's on the jazz...."

I stop in front of the rest of the team, slipping my leather gloves on and puffing on my cigar.

"Socks! I need everybody's socks! We're going to take the fight to this son of a ***** right now!"

Screen Name: Carnage27

Character you'd like to portray: Leonardo

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: Leonardo is a mutated pet turtle. He, along with his brothers, has grown to a height of six-foot four, is anthropomorphic, and has super-human strength, agility, and dexterity. He has the strength of approximately three men, but his real offensive power comes from his agility and dexterity, mix with his ninjitsu training. Through the teachings of Master Splinter, Leonardo has become a master of martial arts, stealth, and mastered the use of a multitude of ninja weapons including shurikens and his specialty the ninjaken or ninja sword.

Leonardo is also a master of meditation, and when he can achieve a meditative state in battle, he is nearly unbeatable.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mirage Studios

Fictional history of the character: Leonardo began his life as a simple pet turtle bought by a boy along with his three brothers. But on the trip home to name his new pets, the boy dropped the glass bowl which he was carrying the turtles in. The bowl shattered, and the turtles slid down into the sewers of Manhattan. There, they stumbled into a green, glowing ooze, along with an old pet rat named Splinter which had been living in the sewers after the death of his master.

The ooze mutated the animals, granting them human intelligence and anthropomorphic forms. As the infant turtles grew, Splinter raised them as his sons, including teaching them the ways of the ninja and martial arts.
Leonardo quickly showed himself to not only be the most skilled fighter of the group, but also showed himself to be a born leader. Splinter quickly named him the leader of the group and instructed the other four to follow his orders. Raphael, the largest and strongest turtle, as well as the team’s loose canon, never took well with the decision and has begrudgingly followed since that day. Michelangelo, the youngest and most immature of the brothers, often needed extra attention from Leonardo in order to keep his jokester personality in line. Donatello, the smartest and least socially inclined of the four, often followed without hesitation.

Not only was Leonardo a born leader, but he is also guided by a strict moral guide of the Bushido code. He detests firearms, and believes honor is the most important trait one can have.

In the past few months, the Turtles have left their subterranean home and taken to the streets in order to stop injustice and crime in New York. In a plan devised by the eldest turtle, the four brothers all donned red bandannas over their eyes, ensuring that even when they were in different areas, the criminals of New York would believe they were combating one enemy.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: Leonardo is my childhood. I’ve loved the Turtles since I can remember. In the last game like this I, along with basically everyone else, let my story get out of hand, but now I’ve got an arc planned out that will keep the Turtles on a defined mission.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: I've got an interesting story to tell. Also, this is an opportunity to do a hero that's different than the norm.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: As many as needed.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

Breathing deeply, I focus on nothingness. I let my mind slip away into a state of breathing unconsciousness. There, my mind is more than the normal person's. There I can perceive a higher state, and can center myself more than my brothers.

Doing this meditation, I can focus on the world around me and gain the state I need before battle. The state of calm and concentration gives me a leg up on the untrained scum of New York City.

Taking a final deep breath, I stand and exit my room, finding my brothers sparring in the main dojo. I announce my presence, "Turtles...get ready. We're going on patrol."

Screen Name: Carnage27

Character you'd like to portray: Dr. Henry “Indiana” Jones Jr., Director of the BPRD

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: While Indy was not born with superhuman powers, he received the gift of extraordinary long life by drinking from the Holy Grail. At this point, Jones has the body of a man in his mid-to late 50’s, though in reality he’s over 100 years old at this point.

Outside of that, Jones is an expert on human civilizations and cultures, as well as an able fighter. He is an expert with a bullwhip, an experienced hand-to-hand scraper, and a crack shot with firearms.

Jones also served as a spy during World War II and the early years of the Cold War, and is capable in the art of espionage.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Raiders of the Lost Ark, Marvel Comics/Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Dark Horse Comics

Fictional history of the character: Indiana Jones was born around the turn of the twentieth century. From an early age, his father instilled in him the thirst for knowledge which quickly blossomed into an interest in archeology and a desire to preserve the antiquities of the world.

After schooling and training, Jones was known throughout the world as the preeminent obtainer of lost antiquities in the world. On one botched mission where he ended up in India, Jones had his first true run in with the supernatural. In 1935, Jones rescued a Sivalinga stone from a Thuggee cult and returned them to a village which had been suffering without it.

The next year the US Government approached him to recover the Ark of the Covenant before the Nazis could obtain it and use it to rule the world. On the trip, he was reunited with old flame Marion Ravenwood and friend Sallah. He succeeded in obtaining the artifact, but not before the Nazis attempted a ritual with it, that ended in the deaths of all in attendance, save for Marion and Indy.

Indy's next great journey was with his father. The two teamed up to stop the Nazis from obtaining the Holy Grail. It was here that Indy was blessed, or cursed, with extraordinary long life due to drinking from the Grail.

After the Grail journey, Indy volunteered for the Army, and became a special operative and espionage agent. Towards the end of the war, Jones discovered Hitler's last ditch plan to win the war by bringing a supernatural super weapon into the world with project Ragna Rok. Jones also led the strike team that interrupted and seemingly stopped anything from crossing over to our world.

But Jones, along with Trevor Bruttenholm, found the young demon Hellboy on the remote island which the ritual was performed on. The demon took a liking to the two men, and Bruttenholm decided to raise the demon as a child of his own, whereas Indy acted as a big brother-like role. The three of them went on to form the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense by order of President Truman.

There, Jones served as field leader until Hellboy was old enough and skilled enough to perform the role. Then, ten years ago, Bruttenholm was killed by frogmen, and Jones was selected to take over leadership of the Bureau. Since then, paranormal activity, including regular people waking up with superpowers, has rose exponentially and Jones has his hands full trying to keep the happenings out of the public eye while also trying to reign in the ever rebellious Hellboy.

Now, Indy stands on the brink of a war he has no idea is coming, and very soon his whole world will change.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: Indy has always been one of my favorite characters of all time, and I think I've got a really great concept for a character here.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: A character who can eventually interact with all characters in the game, as well as a Nick Fury-like character trying to hide this from the world.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: As much as needed.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

It's been over one hundred years. Over one hundred years since I first breathed the air of this world. And that's just too long for me to look this good. I put the razor down and wash the shaving cream off my face. I only look like I should be in my mid fifties, not over a century old.

And I've lived too long to deal with everything I've had to deal with in the past decade. The Bureau is busier than ever, and I've started a recruiting drive to deal with it. At least I've planned a way to recruit new agents, but I haven't gotten the approval from my liaison to the president.

"You ready boss," Hellboy asks as he pokes his head into my room. "Manning is in the conference room."

"Yea, let's do this," I sigh.

Rain Dog
05-15-2011, 11:15 PM
Screen Name: Rain Dog

Character you'd like to portray: The Goon

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: Tremendous strength and endurance but not at superhuman levels.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): The Goon, Dark Horse

Fictional history of the character: From Wikipedia:

An orphan raised by his Aunt Kizzie, a strong-woman for a carnival. When wanted gangster Labrazio made the carnival his hiding place, Goon snuck into his trailer after hearing about the man's reputation for viciousness. Labrazio showed the young Goon a book containing the names of his enemies, people who had done him favors, and people who owed him money. The police managed to track Labrazio down, however, and surrounded the trailer. In the resulting shoot-out, Goon's Aunt Kizzie, while trying to protect her nephew, was gunned down by stray bullets from Labrazio's firearm. When Labrazio dismissed Kizzie as a "stupid broad" for getting in the crossfire, the young Goon snapped and beat the mobster's skull in with a rock. Figuring the late gangster owed him something, Goon took Labrazio's book (and the man's hat) and took over the entire operation, collecting money and offing deadbeats, all the while insisting that Labrazio was still alive and the Goon was merely his "enforcer."

After killing Labrazio, the Goon met Franky, a cowardly kid who was continually picked on by bullies. They became fast friends after the Goon beat up a kid who tormented him. The Goon involved Franky in his criminal business, setting out to burn down a barbershop which refused to pay protection to "Labrazio". During the arson attempt, they were attacked by zombies. Franky, not believing he could, killed one in self-defense, at which time he underwent a change in personality, adopting a haughty "tough-guy" persona similar to the Goon's, and taking up the position of the Goon's right-hand man.

Although still involved in underworld operations, the Goon, Franky, and friends have become protectors of their town, which is constantly under siege by strange and supernatural forces and the mysterious Zombie Priest.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: I read the first issue of The Goon last year, liked it, and just recently got around to reading the next few and was hooked. I burned through the entire series in a matter of 2 days. It’s a very unique and strange book, which I’m all about, and absolutely hilarious.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

“…And then I says, ‘they wanted a roast beef?!’ Turtle says, ‘yeah’ all nonchalant-like and we end up having to apologize to the old lady, untie her, and let her loose near the docks and act like nothin’ happened.”

“Heh. She end up ok?”

“Oh, God no, she was mowed down by a bimmer. Like, immediately afterwards.”

“Huh….Hey, Franky…”

“Yeah, Goon?”

“Is that what I think it is?”

http://imageshack.us/m/508/3884/residentevilzombie.jpg

“A slackjaw?”

“A slackjaw.”

“The nerve of these pricks,” Franky says as he walked to the car, opened the passenger seat door, and reached inside.

“They’re wandering into our turf all the time now,” he said, with one arm fumblin’ about under the seat.

“I’ve noticed.”

“Here,” he says, tossin’ me the lead pipe what he found under the seat. I snatch it from the air and grip it real tight before lettin’ out a real sharp whistle.

“phEEEEEEEEW!!! Hey! Slackjaw!”

“Uggggggnnnnn???” the slackjaw groans as he turns that nasty head all slow-like.

“Lemme learn ya a thing or two 'bout wanderin’ into our turf!” I says as I march up to the bag o’bones. Before the thing can reach out to claw at me, I swing and send its head flyin’ off its shoulders and through the window to Norton’s pub. I jog up to the window and quickly stick my head through the broken glass.

“Sorry ‘bout that, Norton!”

One Universe: Independents Edition RPG APPLICATION

Screen Name: wiegeabo

Character you'd like to portray: Dean Winchester

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: Dean is a born and bread hunter of the supernatural, trained by his father. He has a decent knowledge of the occult and a ****load of weapons in the trunk of his car.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Supernatural: Origins and Supernatural: Rising Son published by DC comics under the Wildstorm label.

Fictional history of the character: Dean lost his mother to a demon while his brother Sam was still a baby. Raised by their father John, Dean took care of Sam while John relentlessly hunted and killed demons and any other supernatural creatures across the country in an obsessive quest to avenge his wife's murder. When Dean was old enough, he began hunting with his father while Sam left the family business to go to college and try and live a normal life.

A short time ago, John Winchester disappeared, leaving behind his diary of all thing supernatural. Dean sought Sam out for help. Sam refused until his fiancee was killed in the same manner as their mother. Now Sam and Dean hunt supernatural forces while searching for their father and looking for the demon who's taken the women in their lives.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: Dean is a classic rebel-hero character. He's more than willing to give ****, but not take it. He loves his brother, but keeps it bottled up inside, and is more than willing to fight with him and even die for him. He also loves the ladies, and doesn't hide that fact. You could say he kicks ass for the Lord, if he believed in God and was in any way a religious person.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: I want to keep as faithful to the character as I can. The Winchesters already live in a world of unnatural things while keeping it secret from the public, so whatever gets thrown out them shouldn't be too hard to adapt to.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: Honestly, probably only once or twice, unless I get into a posting session.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:
"GO! GO! GO!" I shout. "Get them out of here!"

"No, I'm not going to leave you," Sam yells back as we run through the woods.

"Don't start getting soft on me. Get them across the road, I'll hold it off."

Sam looks ahead at the kids we're trying to save from their own stupidity. Conjuring a spirit in a graveyard. Freakin' geniuses.

We're hear the slobbering yells of anger behind us, the snapping of twigs and branches as the spirit gives chase. I veer right as everyone else veers left. "Dean!"

"Would you just go!" I fire a blast into the woods. The sounds of of the spirit change as it starts chasing me instead of the others. Sam and I look at each other for a moment, I start to wonder if this was such a great idea. We start running.

"Sam!"

"What!"

"...you better get your ass back here pronto." Sam nods and disappears into the woods.

"DIE!"

I bring my shotgun up as I spin around. "Oh sh-!" BLAM

One Universe: Independents Edition RPG APPLICATION

Screen Name: Byrd Man

Character you'd like to portray: Sherlock Holmes.

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: No powers, but Holmes is a brilliant detective and is proficient in hand to hand combat, as well as a fair shot with a gun, and is a master of disguise.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Holmes has appeared in a variety of comics over the years, I think he's in the public domain and has been appearing in fiction for over a 100 years.

Fictional history of the character:
Born in the English countryside in 1976, Sherlock Holmes and older brother Mycroft Holmes were raised by loving and free spirited parents. Both boys were astute students, and went to Oxford University to study. Mycroft graduated with honors and began working with the British government. A few years later Holmes, always the underachiever, ended up dropping out due to boredom. Although he dropped out on his own accord, Holmes' was on track to finish first in his class, his highest marks being in chemistry, anatomy, and criminology.

Using his academic connections, Holmes eventually caught on with Scotland Yard, acting as a paid consultant and working closely with Detective Inspector Gordon Lestrade. While the job pays more than enough, Holmes' tendency to squabble away his money has led him to seek out a roommate.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: Holmes is one of my favorite characters in any genre and I played a very different take in the last game, so I want to play him again with another new take.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: I can bring whatever you need, baby! What do you want? Money? Women?.....Men?

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: Much as possible.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

221B Baker Street

"Mister Holmes!"

Mrs. Hudson's voice wakes me up from my fitful sleep. The door swings open and I hear two sets of feet stomping across the foyer.

"I'm so sorry about the mess, sir, I've constantly told Mister Holmes about this mess."

"You certainly have, Nanny," I say with disdain as I sit up on the couch. Flanking Mrs. Hudson is a man with dark brown hair and wearing a suit.

"Mister Holmes, this is Doctor John Watson. He's answered the ad to be your roommate."

"Splendid. Hello, Doctor. How was Afghanistan?"

Watson crinkles his brow and looks at Mrs. Hudson and then me.

"How...how did you know?"

"Oh, there are a variety of deductive methods I used to figure that out....but mostly, I noticed the pin on your lapel that announces that you are a veteran of the combat in Afghanistan."

Watson looks down at the pin and slightly blushes. "Ah, so I see."

One Universe: Independents EditionRPG APPLICATION

Screen Name: Batman

Character you'd like to portray: Major Albert 'Al' Simmons - Spawn

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: Possessing a link to the paranormal, Spawn possesses superhuman strength, durability, speed, and agility through use of the magical arts. To be perfectly honest, I've always thought the character was a little overpowered, so I want to downplay his abilities to those aspects and play him off as more of a ghostly figure than a one-man-army killing machine. As such, he can be killed and stay dead, it's just a little harder to pull it off when compared to everyday people.

His suit is made of necroplasmic energy, a living symbiotic armor that can allow him to shapeshift and become invisible. It's anthropomorphic cape can literally come to life and attack anyone in Spawn's way, and it's chains can become weapons within themselves. His entire body is riddled with metal spikes that can grow and subside at will, though the pain of using them weakens him to the point that they're rarely used.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Todd McFarlane's Spawn #1, Image Comics

Fictional history of the character: After years of searching for the right candidate, the United States Government found their ideal subject of Project Ghosthunt in the cunning and ruthless young military cadet, Al Simmons. Taken off the grid and undergoing a process that would erase his entire existence from official record, Simmons was tasked with being the team leader of an ultimate Black-Ops squadron that would tackle otherwise highly controversial missions, such as assassinations and kidnappings of those deemed threats to national security. The project was led by retired CIA operative Jason Wynn, whose true goals remained unclear until the team's overlying objectives underwent several changes. Refusing to lead a mission that would effectively bomb a small nation, Simmons was forced to take action when threatened and tried to out Project Ghosthunt to the public. His efforts were proven futile and in 1987, Al Simmons was murdered by one of Wynn's secondary operatives. He left behind his wife of three years, Wanda Blake, and was laid to rest in his hometown of Miami, Florida.

But something happened. In an unspeakable place, a secret realm known only by it's varying stories and legends, a Devil lurked beneath the surface to bargain with Al Simmons' soul. Lead an army of the dead, and he'd be allowed to return to Earth. Simmons accepted, knowing nothing of the journey he was about to embark on or the true terms of the deal that he had made. 20 years after his death, Simmons was brought back to his own realm as something darker, something deadlier. A Hellspawn, the first of many that the Devil needed to create an army to bring about Armageddon.

After nearly five years of tormented rest, he has finally awakened to a world he does not recognize anymore. And if the Devil has his way, his journey will cause Hell itself to be unleashed.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Walking The Line

List a few reasons why you chose this character: I've always had a mild interest in the character, going back to the mid-90's, which was Spawn's most popular period. But the crazy stuff they did over the years and the continuity upon continuity turned me off of ever truly following his mythos or investing in the lore. However, my interest was always piqued in the character at his core, and I've longed for a chance to see a version of Spawn that's more simplified, grounded, and accessible. Now's my chance to do just that, aswell explore some of the themes that drive him - the concepts of morality, mortality, religion, the supernatural, and the like.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: My strengths as a writer often lie with these street level vigilantes teetering on the edge, so there's that to consider. I also make a mean lasagna.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: Once or twice. I'm hoping to stick to one character for awhile before taking the gamble at a second, given my duties with UDC and WOH.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

Every inch of him was burning.

His eyes fluttered open as he gasped for what little oxygen he could intake, feeling drops of water hit him across the forehead. Thunder rumbled from the heavens as he finally turned on his side, his muscles aching and throbbing. Like he had been tossing and turning in a long night's sleep. His senses were sharp, sensitive. It hurt to keep his eyes open for long, feeling an intense light course into them. But he was breathing. And as far as he knew, none of his bones were broken. He guessed that it must have been a good sign - he was alive, despite the fact that he didn't recognize even a single brick of the alleyway he was laying in. Fighting off garbage as his vision continually grew sharper, making the world around him grow from a blur to a vivid picture, he got to his feet and looked around.

"Hhh. Hhh. Cold."

He caressed himself, the bitter burn turning to a chill.

"S-So cold."

At least, that's what he thought he was feeling. Due to the pouring rain, and the fact that he felt like a freshly soaked rat. Holding his head in his hands, he wandered off into the distance, looking for an end to the brick labyrnth infront of him. He didn't know what he was doing, where he was even going. But he felt like he had somewhere to be. Somewhere to go home to. And there was this image in his head - it was a vague one. Like a long lost memory trying to break through to the surface.

He turned a corner and tried to hold his balance, but it was useless. His legs instantly gave out and he dropped, like a stone, creating ripples among puddles. As he reeled from the surprising amount of pain that crackled across his skin from touching the foreign water, he caught a glimpse of his own reflection. The ripples distorted it to some degree, but it was enough to give him pause. Something wasn't right about what he was seeing. Trying as hard as he could to produce a mind's eye of what he really looked like, he was shocked to realize that he didn't have a clear picture of that.

But that was impossible. No one ever forgets their own reflection.

Do they?

"Hey, fancy man."

He turned back to see someone approaching him from the other side of the alley. At first, he thought it was a derelict. But the jacket he was wearing indicated otherwise, being too expensive looking to leave that possibility there. The man looked at him oddly, eying him up and down.

"Dig the duds. You headin' to a Halloween party?"

Trying to react, he didn't particularly feel up to it. He simply shook his head and held his palm up to his temple.

"I, whuh... Where?"

The stranger looked confused.

"Where?"

"Where am I?"

"Lying in the stone cold gutter, man. Where else you think?"

"N-No, I..."

Trying to stand, he tumbled forward. The stranger backed away.

"Jesus, you high or something?"

"Jus... Just tell me. Tell me where I am."

"Like, city wise? Country? What're you trying to ask?"

His voice becoming raspy and irritated, he glared up at the man with eyes that nearly sent the stranger into the other direction.

"Whatever you know. Tell me. Right now."

Then the stranger asked the million dollar question. And at the moment it was asked, his entire world came to a grinding halt.

"Who are you?"

He didn't know.

By the lord in heaven, he even didn't know.

One Universe: Independents Edition RPG APPLICATION

Screen Name: Batman

Character you'd like to portray: MI-6 Agent 007, James Bond

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: Though he lacks superhuman attributes, Bond is trained to the level of peak performance in most of what is humanly achievable, both in intelligence and physical endurance. An expert marksman, fluent in several languages, a master hand-to-hand combatant and even renowned daredevil, there's actually very little that Bond hasn't proven himself fully capable of exceeding at. Bond's most crippling weakness is actually his own ego, often getting him into trouble and perilous situations. As a recently promoted agent of MI-6, British Intelligence, Bond has been given perhaps his most signature weapon in service - a license to kill.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Going off of his current publishing rights, Titan Books' The Man With The Golden Gun

Fictional history of the character: Bond is the son of a Scottish father, Andrew Bond of Glencoe, and a Swiss mother, Monique Delacroix of the Canton de Vaud. The boy James Bond spends much of his early life abroad, becoming multilingual in German and French because of his father's work as a Vickers armaments company representative. When his parents are killed in a mountain climbing accident in the Aiguilles Rouges near Chamonix, eleven-year-old James is orphaned.

After the death of his parents, he goes to live with his aunt, Miss Charmian Bond, in Pett Bottom village, where he completes his early education. Later, he briefly attends Eton College at the age of 13, but is removed after four years because of girl trouble with a maid - then sent to Fettes College in Edinburgh, Scotland, his father's school. Bond briefly attended the University of Geneva. Bond lies about his age in order to enter the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve during the Gulf War, from which he emerges a Lieutenant Commander.

It is this time period that creates his larger field resume, making him prime for Britain's offer to join MI-6's program of privatized special agents, or Secret Intelligence Service (SIS). Though he spends most of his training on a tour of duty through Europe, Bond's skills catch the attention of his superiors rather soon and he is sent on the steps to becoming a 00 agent, the primary field operatives of the British Government. His first assignment is an undercover one, infiltrating a series of illegal card games at Montenegro's Casino Royale, held by a ruthless banker named Le Chiffre. MI-6 believes the games to fund terrorist activity, so Bond is sent in as a player.

It is during this time that he meets and falls in love with an agent of Britain's treasury department, Vesper Lynd. His intention is to quit the service and leave with Lynd after the mission's completion, content enough to give up the life of an agent. But though Bond is successful at preventing Le Chiffre's plan from taking hold, he is unable to prevent the intercutting murder of Vesper at the hands of a vengeful organization called Quantum that helps orchestrate the game and fund Le Chiffre's holdings for the winner. Distraught and left cold-hearted by Vesper's death, Bond finally earns his 00 status by taking the required two kills - a bullet for Le Chiffre and a bullet for the mysterious Mr. White, the leader of Quantum. By the time he returns to London, Bond's status is activated and he is given his liscence to kill, becoming Agent 007.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: Well, I mean, it's James Bond. I think all of us at some point have been a fan of the movies, and even fantasized about being a secret agent, which was a character type that he popularized. The reason I chose to play him here is that he's the perfect foil for a character that I intend to introduce as a villainous presence in the game, while at the same time giving me an outlet to give plenty of homage to the remake of Casino Royale, one of my favorite films of the last decade.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: Hopefully, a decent grasp on the world of secret agents and the sort of extraordinary things that Bond can be made formidable against. Oh, and I suppose I'm a decent writer who can interact well with others.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: Many as I can manage.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

"And for you, sir?"

"Vodka martini, two olives. Shaken."

"Not stirred?"

"Not if you want to keep breathing."

The bartender chuckled, but his customer's eyes were serious. Quietly, he turned around began tending to the mysterious man's drink. Nerves were high as the gala for Russia's Prime Minister began the evening's festivities, bringing about a world class series of guests and diplomats. The celebration was intended to promote peace throughout the neighboring borders, as Russia's government had just successfully cracked down on a series of weapons' smugglers that had ravaged the East for a number of years. The prime minister called it a new beginning for those affected by gangland violence, but the talk of the town seemed to speak differently. There was almost certain to be a retaliation strike by the remaining members of the heavily armed cartel, but in their optimism, none of the Russian government seemed too concerned. They were only fortunate that Britain's intellgence weren't as forgiving.

Only lightly tapping his earpiece as his fingers ran through his hair, James Bond's eyes were fixated on the crowd. He could read people almost as well as he could read literature, but there were no indications of foul play in any of the patrons surrounding the prime targets of any sort of assassination. From his ear, he could hear chatter amongst MI-6's prominent spies, already wondering if they were better off pulling out. Bond wasn't so sure, as he took his glass from the bar and raised it to his mouth, his gaze bouncing even further from the lavish trappings to the balconies.

"I certainly hope you're not paying attention to your colleagues, Bond. That tip came from reliable sources."

Bond smirked. It seemed his superior shared his sentiments. "And I thought you'd be off to bed at this hour."

"Not with an international crisis on hour hands. Just what the hell do you see in there?"

"Lots of saps, and lots of fools. A few interesting parties, but nothing terribly important."

"Just remember that the instigators wouldn't likely want to call attention to themselves."

He took another drink.

"Doesn't mean they wouldn't."

That's when he noticed an individual going through the crowd, heading towards a hall that was unoccupied to the right corner of the room. Bond's eye kept tailing his movements, but they were fluid and active, like he was in a rush. Placing his cocktail down, Bond advanced through the crowd and crossed paths with a young woman serving the guests some wine, giving her a polite nod and indicating the direction he was heading.

"Excuse me, I'm a bit lost. Do you happen to know which room that is?"

She looked over. "Oh, I believed that is the Prime Minister's personal quarters. That part of the estate is strictly off-limits to guests."

Bond's eyes narrowed.

"Thank you, that is all I needed to know."

Reaching into his pocket, Bond's fingertips latched onto his .34 service piece and he made his way after the potential suspect. All the while, M's voice kept coming back at him.

"Bond? We're getting a reading that you're heading west. Is everything alright?"

Bond's pace increased, knowing he'd get an earful about this.

"Perfectly fine."

I might just go ahead and not worry about Hannibal and the A-Team. I played them long enough in the last game, and I'm doing some stuff in another RPG that's in the same vein as the stories I'd tell with them, so it'd be best to focus on that story instead of split it between that and the A-Team. Plus, more focus on Holmes which I'm digging now.

We need some more life in this thing.

One Universe: Independents Edition RPG APPLICATION

Screen Name: wiegeabo

Character you'd like to portray: Dr. Samuel Beckett

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: Sam is a genius. Born a child prodigy in 1953, he was reading by age 2, and doing advanced calculus in his head by 5. He was beating computers at chess by 10, playing piano at Carnegie Hall by 19, and earned a blackbelt in several martial arts by the time he graduated high school at 16. With an IQ well over 200 and a photographic memory, Sam went through 4 years of MIT in just 2, and eventually earned 7 doctorates in various fields including Medicine, Chemistry, and Quantum Physics, and became fluent in the same number of languages. Before his 30th birthday, Sam had won a Nobel Prize in physics and was called the 'Next Einstein' by Time Magazine.

But, through all of it, Sam was fascinated by the concept of time travel. The interest began with the string theory of time travel developed by his mentor at MIT. But the interest became an obsession when Sam's father died of a heart attack only a few years after his older brother was killed in Vietnam. And Sam begin to think that by time traveling, he could fix what once went wrong and help people throughout history.

Knowing he'd need the government to fund his research, Sam begin working for government projects. During his time with Project Starlight in the 1980's, Sam met his best friend Admiral Albert 'Al' Calavicci, a brilliant computer programmer named Gushie, and the love of Sam's life, Donna. He brought this core group of people into Project Quantum Leap and, in 1995, Sam's dream of time travel came true when he stepped into the accelerator...and vanished.

But something went wrong, and Sam was uncontrollably leaped into the body of a person in the past, switching places with them, while still appearing and sounding like them to those around him. The leap also caused partial amnesia. Sam would have been lost in time if not for the help of Al, who communicates with Sam as a hologram projected into Sam's mind, and Ziggy, the artificially intelligent computer that is Project Quantum Leap. With their help, Sam finds himself leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap...will be the leap home.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Quantum Leap tv series (NBC), Quantum Leap (published by Innovative Corporation, 1991)

Fictional history of the character: Sam is the creator and head of Project Quantum Leap, an experiment in time travel to allow people to travel within their own lifetime. But, impatient to test his theory, Sam leaps before the project is ready, and finds himself lost in time, uncontrollably leaping from person to person, setting right what went wrong with their lives. And each time he succeeds, he leaps into another person with the hope that, one day, the next leap will return him home.

His friend Al can communicate with Sam as a hologram projected through time. Only Sam can see and hear Al, and Al sees and hears everything around Sam as a hologram in the imaging chamber back at Project Quantum Leap. After years of various leaps, Sam's footprints in the changes of time have been both small and large. He prevented his father's heartattack, and saved his brother in Vietnam. He saved Marylin Monroe's life so she could complete filming of The Misfits, and saved Jackie Kennedy from Lee Harvey Oswald's bullet (by actually leaping into Oswald at various points in his life), and even, by leaping into his great-grandfather during the Civil War, saved the life of Martin Luther King Jr's great-grandfather. Sam has even fought evil leapers who try to set wrong what once went right, and may have actually taken on the Devil himself one Halloween...

Eventually, Sam learned from someone who may or may not be God, that he actually controlled his leaps. But, instead of finally leaping home, Sam leaped to prevent Al's wife from declaring him dead while he was a POW in Vietnam, saving their marriage. Now, Sam is leaping again, but the leaps are more difficult now, no longer confined to his lifetime, nor to just the past...

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: Sam was one of my favorite tv heroes growing up. He was a good man and the character was a good role model. And now that I've started watching some of the show again, I'm all excited.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: Even though Quantum Leap was canceled after season 5, the plan for season 6 was to make the leaps harder (even having multi-episode arcs) and free Sam up to travel further into the past and even to the future. And our game happens to take place in Sam's future...

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: Honestly, it might only be on the weekends. But if I have time, I'll try to get a weekday post up.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:
Blue energy spreads out, covering his body, electricity rippling along the surface. But no sees this. No one notices. And, honestly, how could they? How could normal people see a four dimensional ripple of energy?

The answer: normal people can't. But he can. He's done it before. He doesn't see it happen to himself. To him, one moment he's there, there's a tingle unlike anything he had ever felt before wash over his skin and sink into his very core, and the next moment he's somewhere else. Somewhen else. But he has seen it happen to others. And he knows that's what he looks like when he leaps.

***

The tingle fades, and is replaced by the all too familiar confusion. Think of what it would be like to blink your eyes, and be in a completely different place by the time they opened. Combine that with partial amnesia, utter confusion, and a lot of adrenaline, and you might get a small sense of what I feel every time.

Luckily, after you've been leaping for a few years, you get pretty fast at recovering.

First thing's first, look around, get some perspective. Sights, smells, noises, take them all in. Gather as many clues to try and figure out what's happening as fast as you can. Get you're bearings. Leaping is always easier when you've got some sense, how ever vague, of what you just leaped into.

I notice that I'm squatting down in a large room. Around me, men and woman are busy doing...things. It takes me a second to realize they're police. Or, at least some of them are. But these aren't normal police uniforms. At least not for anywhere in the States.

"Well? What do you think?"

I look towards the voice. A tall man is also squatting across from me, giving me a curious look. He's tall, thin, and judging by the accent, definitely British.

"Think?" I say, knowing enough to put on an accent of my own, hoping it's close to being correct.

"About the body."

"Body?" I look down and notice the body. The body of a dead man lying between us. Doesn't take a genius to figure out what's going on.

"Honestly, you really need to work on your concentration, Watson."

"...oh boy..."

Character you'd like to portray: Angel

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: He's a vampire with a soul

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): He reverted to dark horse and is based on the character from the Angel tv series

Fictional history of the character:
Born Liam in 1727 in Galway, Ireland, he was sired by Vampire Darla and became one himself in 1753 and changing his name to Angelus and was dubbed The Scourge of Europe, earning notoriety for being one of the most sadistic and brutal demons in history, and the most evil vampire ever recorded. He was also known as The Demon with the Face of an Angel or The One with the Angelic Face because of his physical beauty. However, in 1898, Angelus was cursed by the members of Clan Kalderash as vengeance for killing a member of their clan. They returned his soul, forcing him to live eternally in guilt over the countless crimes he had committed.
In the late 20th century, Angel, as he began calling himself, became an ally and lover of the current Slayer, Buffy Summers. After the two were forced to realize their limitations as a couple, Angel left Buffy and moved to Los Angeles, where he became a Champion of the Powers that Be and dedicated himself to helping people in need in the hope of achieving atonement. Angel's actions were agains the interests of the demonic company Wolfram & Hart that sent the entire city of Los Angeles to a different dimension ruled by Demons.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: I wanted to use buffy but i think i can work with angel better.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG:
Vampires and hell demons, and also great characters and storylines.
How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG:
in least twice a week
Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:
It was big, like a demon Kar shal usually is, two horns on the skull, skin silvery scales covering its face and a spiked tail, I would say this is one of my best days, but I would be lying, I've fought bigger, but not in a city in these conditions.
-Hey, are you going to make me wait all day? - I say with the purpose of enfuriating him, it works and I hear a roar, followed by him running towards me.
I give him a big kick in the middle of the belly not leting him rest as i proceed to punsh his face.
-hurrrmmh - Its voice wouldn't please some people, I pull my axe and try to attack him in what I think is his weakest weakest area, the neck, in vain, because I just got the ax to be destroyed, the neck? Not so much.
Hurme HRA-hahaha! - The demon laughs in my face, I then exert more pressure in the ax, breaking it, and then i use what remains of the wooden stick that was part of the ax to stick it through his eyes, with a disgusting but also productive result.
-Note to self, pierce the eyes, not the neck, it's usually more effective.
-aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarghh! - The demon survived? Aparently it wasn't as effective as i expected
-Ok, forget that but do you know what always works? - The demon becomes confused
-A fire-breathing dragon. - And then he turns around and sees my faithful dragon, which does not take long to turn him into ashes.

Okay, after conferring with the other GMs, we've decided to approve you.

However, you need to read the RPG 101 rules that wieg and twylight have worked on so you really understand how to play these games. Also, as of now, you are confined to one character until you show us that you are capable of writing a good story. You're writing is a bit choppy an unfocused as of now, and we'd like to see that improve a little as you go.

Also, I think you may want to reevaluate the direction you seem to be interested in taking. As of now, the vast majority of the world doesn't know about any superhuman/alien/mystical/supernatural things that may be happening in the world. So having LA disappear wouldn't work in the current universe.

Hopefully when we get moved it'll get more attention.

You don't even have a character damn it!:cmad:

No one has posted in over a week, and I figure it's the best decision as of now. Putting the games on hold can let us divert our attention into actually getting things around here (or wherever we move to) into shape to give us the best possible chance of succeeding.

Screen Name: Animus

Character you'd like to portray:Johann Kraus

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: Johann Krauss is not actually human at all. Rather the ectoplasmic spirit of a human contained within a specialized suit constructed by the occult mechanics of the BPRD. Countless hours were spent upon this suit for if he did not have as such, he would surely dissipate into the other realm. Despite this gaseous form, he is a powerful psychic medium as well as having the powers of Technoplasty.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Dark Horse's BPRD: Hollow Earth and Other Stories (2003)

Fictional history of the character: After having his human body destroyed in a mystical fire involving a seance gone awry...Johann, a German born medium...sought out the help of the BPRD in order to contain his soul.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: Well, I just recently watched Hellboy 2: The Golden Army and if you've seen that movie, you'll understand the sentence "He had me at "SCREW ZE CLEARENCE, VE VIL TAKE THAT PLANE!"" But seriously, he's my favorite Hellboy character.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: I plan on bringing a smart, intelligent character to life in a way that even the comics have'nt touched upon. While still staying true to his character, I hope I can bring something more to him, making him more human so to speak.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: Once or twice, possibly more once I hit my groove.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

Theres a narrow dark alley of cobblestone paths that leads me to where I need to be. As such my eyes are foggy, glassed over and I can't feel my legs for whatever reason.Oh yeah, I'm a bloody mist.

A shadow of my former self...so to speak. As my gaseous body begins to slowly disappear from the thin air it hangs upon, I see an air vent.

I narrowly make my escape and land er...float into the office of a Mr. Indiana Jones...

RING RING RING RING

"Hello...?" He answers.

"Yes. This is a Johann Krauss. A super powerful...psychic medium..."

"Well, if you're so super powerful, why ring my phone? I'm a very busy man, Mr. Krauss."

"True. I was as well, but I understand you..help people with occult problems? Perhaps you can help me then...you see...I dont have a body. After a seance gone haywire, My wandering soul has left my body..and as such I have no body. Perhaps we could work out a deal?"

"You want us to construct you a body in return for your psychic abilities? Alright, I'll humor you...where are you?"

"Behind you."

The phone go's silent as a single cold chill enters through the ceiling.

The sentence "Breathe the breath of life" never felt so surreal.

Nice application. I'd like to see you flesh out his fictional history a little more. Also, we usually color character's speech in order to differentiate from normal text. It's not necessary, but it definitely helps other players.

One more thing, have you read through the IC thread and the one post on the first page of this thread? I've done quite a bit with the BPRD, and it's not necessarily the same as the comics version. It's kind of like SHIELD as well as BPRD.

Will do. There was'nt much of a history to start with iin the comics, and even less in the movie. I kinda hated to embelish stuff as I was'nt sure as to if this rpg was "ultimate" or not.

As for the text, I'll see what I can do. Anyone use this:Screw ze Clearence![/COLOR] ?

Well, my problem was that I managed to pick the wrong character... twice. Someone who only stimulated me in concept rather than practice in Spawn, and someone that really didn't lend himself to interaction in Bond. I have an idea for someone who can fulfill both quotas at once while giving the game an interesting villain, but it'd require two things: You guys being willing to let me back in after I unrightfully bailed on you without notice, to which I say that I'm sorry and it won't happen again if I apply.

And the second would be a bit trickier, the allowance of a character who's only appeared for a four issue miniseries, well under the six issue requirement. True, the rule is in place for a reason, but given that I feel that the series in question was written poorly by it's creator and not exploitative enough of the character's potential, there's little that I would owe to the amount of continuity available. I'd essentially be taking the concept and making it my own, taking it in a slightly different direction, but it's still a concept that deals with a subject near and dear to me and would allow me to work at it with a bit more confidence than when I was playing Bond, or applying as Spawn.

This concept that I keep talking about?

http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/9615/nemesisj.jpg

Like I said, you guys have every reason to reject any attempt to apply, specifically two very good reasons. But if I were accepted, I'd give it my best shot. I have loads of ideas that could potentially shape into a threat large enough to bring hero characters together against him, so there's something going for the game aswell if it can be allowed.

Wieg and Byrd, feel free to make a decision on this. I'm cool with whatever you guys decide.

One Universe: Independents Edition RPG APPLICATION

Screen Name: Carnage27

Character you'd like to portray: The Doctor (Tenth Incarnation)

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: The Doctor is the last of the Time Lords, a race as old as the Universe itself. Time Lords have incredibly long life spans, and The Doctor is no exception. He is so old, he has forgotten exactly how old he actually is. The Doctor also has the ability to "regenerate". When mortally wounded, he goes into a hibernation-like state and expels a terrific amount of energy, changing his appearance and personality.

The Doctor is incredibly bright, and has amassed an amazing amount of knowledge throughout his very long life. He's shown considerable ability in the fields of espionage, disguise, battle tactician, and leader. Some say he's too charismatic and can manipulate his so called friends into sacrificing themselves for him.

The Doctor's greatest "power" is his ability to transverse time and space using his TARDIS. It allows him to go to almost any time and point in the universe's history.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): The Doctor has appeared in a few different comic media, but the Tenth first appeared in IDW's Doctor Who Ongoing.

Fictional history of the character:

The Doctor is old. How old we may never know. But he has been traveling time and space as a rouge Time Lord since he was young, when he stole a TARDIS and as he puts it, "started running." He's spent his long years traveling the galaxy, sightseeing, and traversing history.

While he has visited many planets and peoples, The Doctor has always had an affinity for Earth and the human race. Something has always pulled him back to the planet and he has often asked humans to go on his travels with him. He has also saved the Earth more times than we'll ever know, often keeping his actions from causing panic or alerting the human race of the existence of extraterrestrial life. He acts as an undercover, and often black-ops like, defender of the planet, though he often chooses to not use violence, instead talking his way out of situations.

Recently in The Doctor's history, he was forced to time lock both his race and their sworn enemies the Daleks. He essentially wiped the two races from existence, an action he deemed necessary due to their "Last Great Time War" which threatened to engulf all existence.

Since then, he has travelled with Rose Tyler, a companion he eventually fell in love with, and was tragically trapped in a parallel universe due to a necessary move by He has also travelled with Martha Jones, Captain Jack Harkness, and Donna Noble, all who he has left to now wander alone, reclaiming is lonely protector status.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: I love the character. He's quirky, yet can be dangerous when angered or when the ones he loves are threatened. The time travel aspect also has unlimited potential for storylines, and I already have two arcs planned out as-is.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: Another character, and a few interesting arcs that I think people will like.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: Since I'm planning on doing solo arcs with him initially, I only plan on posting with him a few times a week.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

For too long I've wandered the universe. For too long I've stared into the vast stretches of infinity. For too long I've ran. Ran from responsibility, from my past, from my future. Too long have I flown around in this big, blue box.

Yet it's never long enough.

I've seen things most beings can't even comprehend, done things that have shaken worlds, and met the greatest beings in history. Yet there are always more things to see, more things to do, and more people to meet.

Standing at the controls of the TARDIS, my TARDIS, I smile, "Where shall we go today, darling?"

Since I'm waiting on the next "canon" DC story to kick in, I might take a swing on here. The two characters I have in mind is Shredder and Donatello. The kicker is I need to know which version we are using of the TMNT world. Even though I grew up with the more goofy late 1980s\early 1990s cartoon version, I would prefer the more serious and latest cartoon version or something similar. I haven't been able to pick up any of the current TMNT comics.

This Universe is kind of like an "Ultimate" Universe where people can reinvent the characters they play. So it's a brand new continuity not based on any previous interpretations.

I'm currently playing Leonardo, and I've been shaping the Turtles' canon so far which I've shaped using mostly Volume 1 of the original Mirage Comics as well as some sprinklings of my own design. I'd definitely welcome another PC Turtle, but I've got a pretty radical departure for Shedder in mind, and it's something I'd prefer to write myself, and is something I really wasn't planning on getting into until a little bit down the road.

That being said, if your interested in Donny, I can PM you some details or talk to you on MSN about him. And if you're dead set on Shredder we can talk and try to figure something out.

I'm up for getting Donny. As for the Shredder, I'm curious what you have in mind for him since there are so many forms of him. A PM would be nice though to get a much better idea as to what you are doing with the TNMTs. If you want to keep Shredder for later use, I have someone or something else in mind if allowed. It is the Gargoyles created by Disney who has a 12 issue comic line by Slave Labor Graphics but not 100% certain how they would fit in completely.

As for Gargoyles, I don't have a problem with the franchise being incorporated. They fit in fairly well with the mythological/magical nature of organizations like the BPRD.

Character you'd like to portray: Donatello

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: He is a giantturtle who walks on two legs with an IQ level of 180-200 even though never been measured officially. He is also a tinker of sorts who can fix almost any electronic or mechanical device if given enough time and resources. Like the rest of his three brothers, he is very well trained in the martial arts by Master Splinter but not quite as good as Leonardo. A computer whiz with what limited access he has had to them. Donny can seem very aloof when working on a project since he would be so deep into it to the point of not coming out of his lab if he had one for days. His preferred weapon of choice is his brain but for combat is the bow staff. He has a wooden one but been experimenting with a mechanical one in his spare time.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): TMNT Mirage Studios

Fictional history of the character: Donny, like the rest of his brothers was an ordinary turtle bought in a pet shop by a boy who tripped on the way home. He dropped the bowl with the four turtles down a sewer where they came into contact with green ooze and a rat. This rat became their father\mentor and taught them the way of the ninja. The ooze changed them into bipedal walking intelligent creatures.

Donny’s intelligence was extra boosted for he could read quicker then any of his brothers and his curiosity in books especially about technology knows no bounds. He isn’t as likely to be in front of the TV like Mikey is unless Mikey damaged it again for the 100th time. Out of his three other brothers, he gets along the best with Leo but the conversations are fairly short since neither are as much talkers for their own reasons. The Turtles owe much of the technology that they have to Donny who scavenged and fixed anything he could find. What he couldn’t make work; he would modify to be put to a different use. He constantly looks for technological advantages for the Turtles especially for the new purpose of going top side. He may spend a great deal in books or front of his computer or other contraptions but still is very dedicated to the way of the ninja and spars with whoever is available which Raphael is usually since Mikey is goofing off and Leo is meditating.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: I’ve enjoyed the TMNT ever since I was a kid. Some of the movies I liked while others I didn’t care for. Leo is my favorite but Don is more of my real life personality.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: I’ve always wanted to be a Turtle. The idea of bringing some ninja butt kicking is also something I look forward to.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: As many that are needed to move the story along.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length: “Mikey, how many times do I have to tell you that if you are going to warm up your pizza in the microwave to NOT use anything metal to put it on including a pizza pan? This is the third microwave we’ve been through in the past two months.”

“Hey, at least the pizza got hot.”

“Yeah, it got hot alright along with the entire microwave. We can’t simply go buy a new one and I can only repair ours so many times. Maybe I can go find a different one on my patrol tonight.”

Donatello simply shakes his head as Mikey shrugs his shoulders and walks away. Don walks back to his room and picks up one of his magazines, Today’s Mechanic, but is too frustrated to read on it. Now he understands why he sees Raphael punching almost everything especially when Michelangelo is around. To release his stress, Don goes to the practice room with his staff and practices several of his moves until it almost becomes like a dance. Before he knew it, it has been and hour and half later with him panting but also being clear of mind. He then goes and takes a shower being thankful that at least the simpler things don’t get broken often and when they do it is usually a quick fix. After he showers, he then goes back to his room to work on his personal project. To his disappointment, he had figured out a way to make mechanical versions of their weapons for the exception of Leo. Thing of it is, he knew that Leo would prefer the more traditional swords over anything that Don could come up with unless there was no other choice. Until he got the resources, the advanced weapons would be just designs for a later time.

Do you know how to post pictures on the Hype boards?: yes but not in the habit of doing so (I'll go find a pic later).

Character you'd like to portray: Goliath

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: Like most living Gargoyles, Goliath can fly\glide on air currents with his wings. Also like other Gargoyles, he turns to stone at sunrise and breaks free at sunset. He stands at 7’ and 4’ across at his shoulders. His wing span is 7’ across. He does have a tail which he uses to help keep balance and as a weapon but can’t hang upside down by it. Goliath’s strength is four times that of a normal human. He can easily bend metal bars that you would find in old jail cell or metal cage. He is extremely protective of his castle and whoever he deems fit for his protection. With the betrayal still fresh in his mind, he trusts a very few humans if at all. This clan of Gargoyles isn’t really trained in any fighting techniques but more of brawlers and rely more of surprise and fear.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Gargoyles, Slave Labor Graphics (12 issues\3 compilations) Two cartoon seasons under Disney

Fictional history of the character: Goliath and his clan were Gargoyle guardians of a castle in Scotland until he was betrayed by one of the humans. During the betrayal, he lost vast majority of his clan. When he returns to Castle Wyvern to find it in ruins, he had the Magus cast a spell on him and the remaining members. The condition of the spell is that they would remain stone until the castle sat above the clouds. Now over a thousand years later, Goliath and his clan finds themselves in an area called Manhattan and each Gargoyle now has take a name for themselves instead of just Goliath. They protect their castle and are slowly getting to the point of protecting Manhattan as a whole. They are protectors of the night. They are Gargoyles.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: I’ve always liked the Disney version of Gargoyles and wondered how workable they would be in a game like this. However, I could never find a place that would allow them. Goliath is a very honorable creature who has a good heart even though he is in a world that he does not know or understand. I share his protective nature even though I don’t have a “castle” of my own to protect.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: This character will bring in a different part of the “world”. I can see the Gargoyle storyline\background being very useful especially with the slow introduction of the Illuminati

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: Whatever it takes to get things going.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length: CCCRRAAAACCCKKKKK! Is the sound that Detective Elisa Maza hears as she watches the sun go down. Before her, six stone gargoyles “hatch” out of their day sleep of stone. The thin pieces of stone flake off onto the castle floor from each Gargoyle. The biggest one, Goliath, steps down and turns to see Maza standing there. Then he notices Brooklyn, a red Gargoyle with a large beak, Broadway, a pale blue and slightly overweight Gargoyle, and Lexington a green and short Gargoyle all start to leap off the castle ledge.

“Where are you three going?”

“Oh, you know, explore this city and see what it has to offer.” Lexington replied.

“Yeah, there is so much food out there that is tasty that I want to sample all of it.”

“Last time you ‘sampled’ a vendor cart, you almost ate him out of his entire stock of hot dogs. If he didn’t come back when he did, he would have found it empty.”

“Hey it wasn’t my fault that he was away from his cart. He made good hot dogs, Brooklyn.”

“Just don’t get into any trouble.”

“We won’t, Goliath.” Remarked Brooklyn.

Before Goliath could ask what Hudson was going to do, Hudson along with Bronx found their way down to where the TV was at.

“I guess that leaves you and me, Goliath. I’ve got the night off so what do you want to do?”

“It might be wise to follow the other three’s plan but not take advantage of any unsuspecting cart vendor.”

Goliath picks up Maza in his arms and glide down towards the city. As they fly over certain sections, Maza fills him in on certain histories of the area especially if she had an interesting incident there in her career. Then they witness a group of thugs ganging up on a family. The husband tries to hide the son between him and his wife. The gang starts to swing their chains around and smacking their palms with the crow bars they have and demand all money and valuables including jewelry. Very carefully and shaking the husband pulls out his wallet and accidentally drops it onto the ground. His wife starts taking off her bracelets. Above them, Elisa points down towards a dark alley where Goliath lands. Maza walks out with her badge and gun drawn

“Hey jerks, would you rather have fun playing with me? Taking down a police officer would do well for your gang ambitions.”

The five gang members quickly went after Elisa who ran back into the dark alley way. She ran a few yards and then turns around pointing the gun at them. The five laughed at her until they heard a loud thump behind them and two find them plastered against a brick wall and drop their weapons. Then they are also dropped to the ground. The other three turn around to see a purple looking monster with huge wings looking at them angrily. They then proceed to drop their weapons and turn back around and ran past Maza as fast as possible. Then Maza took her flashlight out of her jacket pocket and examine the two thugs. They are wearing black leather jackets with orange stripes around the shoulders with one having only one stripe on each arm while the second had three stripes. The two thugs were also wearing black bandanas around their forehead with matching orange stripes on the front.

“Great, just as I feared. Looks like the Orange Tigers are coming into this area now. It is as if I don’t have enough troubles with these Purple Dragon goons running around.”

“Orange Tigers, Purple Dragons, what are you talking about Elisa?”

“The Purple Dragons and Orange Tigers are rival gangs. It seems that the Purple Tigers are doing a bit better then the Orange Tigers but still this could lead to an ugly gang war.”

“War is rarely productive even if you are protecting your home land. Quite often fighting leads to more fighting but sometimes one has to fight to survive.”

“I can tell you this, these two gangs may think they need to fight and claim territory but all they need to do is either stay home or get a job and be productive citizens of this city. If anything good comes out of it, these gangs keep me employed but if things get out of control, will make things much tougher to serve and protect these streets.”

“I see shall we go?”

Maza nods and climbs onto Goliath’s back who then climbs up onto the brick and then up to the roof. He spreads his wings and glides on the air currents continuing to fly over the city.

Character you'd like to portray: The Doctor (11th incarnation)

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: The Doctor is a Time Lord and he does...Time Lord stuff. He's super smart, has the ability to regenerate, and has limited telepathic abilities.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Doctor Who has been published by a bunch of different companies, IDW currently is publishing Who comics.

Fictional history of the character: The Doctor is the last Time Lord, the only survivor of the Time War. He and his spaceship, the TARDIS, travel through time and space. Recently, the Doctor's profile became too big so he faked his death at Lake Silencio, Utah and is traveling incognito through the fringes of space and time.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: I recently got into NuWho, devouring all five (six seasons if you count the 10th Doctor's specials) in about a month's time. I fell in love with the character. Also, the Doctor is the best character to play in terms of RPing. All characters can interact with him in some shape or fashion.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: I can bring a committed RPer who loves to post. And, with the Doctor and the TARDIS, I bring a plot generator for anyone who wants to interact.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: Much as needed

Washington D.C.
July 7th, 1863

Inside the Oval Office, Abraham Lincoln sighed as he looked over the news reports coming from Pennsylvania. The conflict they were calling the Battle of Gettysburg had been horrible. The numbers weren't confirmed yet, but the death toll and the carnage that both sides had endured were horrible. General Meade's reports painted a grim picture. What was worse, the battle had appeared to have been a stalemate. So much lose of life and spirit, and for what? Neither side could claim victory.

Perhaps his advisers were right, Lincoln thought, perhaps it would be best to let the Confederacy go about their business. It wouldn't last long, his cabinet speculated. The South's backward ways left them ill prepared for the future. Within ten years time they would be begging to be brought back into the Union.

Bzzzz!

Lincoln looked up from his desk as he heard the strange sound from outside the office. More curious noises, followed by sounds of struggle before the door burst open.

"Abraham Lincoln!" The excited young man cried out as he strode through the Oval Office towards Lincoln. "16th President of the US. The Great Emancipator. Oops, spoilers."

"Who are you?" Lincoln asked with a scowl. "Why are you in my office?"

"I'm the Doctor," he said as he stopped in front of the desk. His eyes darted to the stovepipe hat laying on the desk. "No time to really explain why I'm here," he said as he picked the hat off the desk and placed it on his head. "This is a stovepipe hat right? That's cool. Stovepipe hats are cool."

Suddenly, the door leading into the Oval Office burst open and a robotic version of Robert E. Lee roared.

"THE SOUTH WILL PREVAIL, SUH!!!" The robot Lee said as it rushed towards Lincoln.

The Doctor pulled his sonic screwdriver from his coat pocket and aimed it at the robot. Sparks flew from robot Lee and it fell to the ground, coming to a sliding stop inches from the Doctor. The Doctor held the screwdriver up to his mouth and blew on it like the barrel of a smoking gun.

"What is the meaning of this," Lincoln said as he stood. "I demand to know!"

"There are two things you need to know," the Doctor said as he bent down and scanned over the robotic Lee with his screwdriver. "One, someone has placed a robotic Confederate army here in Washington with only one goal in mind: Kill you and have the Confederacy capture Washington."

He stood up and placed the screwdriver back into his jacket.

"The second thing you need to know: trust the Doctor."

Character you'd like to portray:
Galvatron

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest:
Galvatron is a giant alien robot of an advanced civilization who can shapeshift into a mobile particle cannon. He possesses immensely devastating firepower, a high degree of durability and strength, flight capability, and genius level intelligence. His journey into what has since been called the Dead Universe has also granted Galvatron and his crew certain powers that have yet to be fully explored in the real world.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?):
Various Transformers comics and universes, but I'm taking inspiration mainly from the non-movie oriented IDW continuity.

Fictional history of the character:
Galvatron was once a brilliant scientist and professor at the University of Iacon before becoming an explorer during the Golden Age of Cybertron, millions of stellar cycles ago. Transformation technology had only recently been perfected, allowing researchers to travel to new worlds and hide among its people in order to study them in secret, without interfering in the planetary society's development. Unlike today where all Cybertronians have the capability of transforming and don't give it a second thought, back then only qualified Cybertronians' bodies were outfitted to be transformable. Scientists on exploratory missions to study alien civilizations were obviously the main candidates to be equipped with this new technology. Galvatron gave up his teaching career to become a part of this new and exciting phase of scientific research, and together with a small crew, he set out aboard the very first vessel to use the name of The Arc, and they were never seen again.

Now, as the civil war between the Autobots and the Decepticons has reached a new stage on the planet known as Earth, there is a threat coming from the farthest reaches of space. A threat that many thought was only a legend. A threat that they all thought to have died eons ago. Those who thought such things were only half-right. Galvatron and his crew found something out there, and they’re bringing it back.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?:
Villain.

List a few reasons why you chose this character:
I want to play a Transformer and I still have story ideas left over from the long defunct "Robots in Disguise" RPG that I think I can still use. With other heroes and villains already existing on this game's Earth (not even counting those pesky Autobots and Decepticons) it should be interesting to see how things play out between all of the characters.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG:
I'm an experienced RPer and I have an enthusiasm for Transformers and character development. I also enjoy putting alien invasion stories into motion, which seems to be the direction that Galvatron is currently leaning in my head.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG:

Character you'd like to portray: Leonardo

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: Leonardo is a genetically mutated turtle grown to human-like size and features. His mutation granted him and his brothers mild super human strength, speed, stamina, and durability. Leonardo is the most well-rounded of his brothers, and the designated leader.

Leo and his brothers are also masters of the martial arts and the way of the ninjas, excelling in hand-to-hand combat and stealth.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from Mirage Studios. Currently appearing in a comic by the same title from IDW Publishing.

The Turtles left their subterranean home and took to the streets in order to stop injustice and crime in New York. In a plan devised by the eldest turtle, the four brothers all donned red bandannas over their eyes, ensuring that even when they were in different areas, the criminals of New York would believe they were combating one enemy.

In the past year, they took on the Purple Dragon Gang, which turned out to be a front for the more powerful Foot Clan, led by the dangerous and mysterious Shredder, who Splinter believed had murdered his old master. In the process, the Turtles befriended the human April O'Neil, who was instrumental in helping the Turtles with more mundane tasks. They also found an ally in Casey Jones, a misguided yet well-meaning vigilante.

The Turtles eventually drew the Shredder's ire, and he ambushed them at their home, causing them, April, and Casey to flee Manhattan to April's house in the country.

But they were not even safe there. The Shredder tracked them down, and burned the country house down. The brothers believed Splinter perished in the blaze, and decided to launch a desperate assault on the Foot's stronghold.

There, they fought tooth and nail, but only Leo made it to the Shredder. Leonardo fought bravely, but was defeated by the Shredder, until Master Splinter, alive and well, intervened. It was then that Shredder revealed himself to be Hamato Yoshi, Splinter's former master, who was bent on creating a criminal empire. But Leonardo ended that dream, decapitating the Shredder and ending the Foot's reign of terror in new York.

Now, six months later, Leonardo is left alone in New York, but something is about to happen that will require him to put his family back together.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: As I've said many a time, he's my favorite comic character. And reading the IDW comic series has given me some good ideas for stories.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: A dedicated player and GM. Plus, I've got a love for this character and want to finally get a full story arc in with him.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: As many as needed.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length: I sit in meditation, reflecting on the past months. I sat here and watched as my brothers left one by one, each for different reasons, unable to stop any of them. I've even lost my mentor, my father Splinter. He's gone back to April's country estate, now rebuilt, to meditate in nature.

I'm left to patrol the streets of New York alone. Since the defeat of the Shredder, the crime in the city has been quiet. The Foot has all but disappeared, seemingly. And the Purple Dragon has been completely eliminated. But I won't leave this city. I took it upon myself to protect it. And protect it I will.

"With or without my brothers."

Character you'd like to portray: Nemesis

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: No superhuman powers, Nemesis - like a certain hero of another company - instead boasts limitless resources and wealth that give him unparalelled access to technology vehicles, and weapons. More importantly, he possesses a genius criminal mind hindered only by psychopathic tendencies, used to hone a willpower capable of constructing a relentless war against all forms of law enforcement and criminal justice. The extent of his knowledge extends to many subjects, including war, history, foreign dialects, and extreme methods of physical and psychological torture.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Technically, the character was conceived in Millar & McNiven's Nemesis #1 from Icon Comics. You'll see why I use the word "technically" below.

Fictional history of the character: The boy who would become Nemesis began life as the adopted child of the Morrigan family empire, a wealthy group of aristocrats who seemed to only deal in fine wine and lavish parties. That all changed when his adopted father was outed as a serial murderer, cheating on his wife regularly and killing the mistresses behind closed doors. The scandal rocked the media and forever put a black mark on the Morrigans, driving Mrs. Morrigan to insanity and commitment in an offshore institution. The boy, whose birth name was Matthew Anderson, was given to his biological uncle by the state in the hopes that he could live out the rest of his life untainted by his adoptive family's increasingly dark past.

Needless to say, Anderson didn't take too kindly to having his life ruined by the system. He adored his foster parents, particularly his mother, and soon ran away to be with her after his uncle's frequent attempts to break the boy of their crippling influence failed. When she died in the institute after asking him to smother her to death, he lovingly complied, and found himself left with nothing. Except a dark hatred for the system that scorned him and a burning desire for revenge. Forging the documentation so that he could inherit everything - the countless subsidiary companies, the multiple accounts, everything - he used his billion dollar fortune to travel the world and learn what it would take to dismantle his many targets. He soon became an accomplished killer, a keen hunter, an exceptional fighter, and a brilliant mind in his own right. There was only one thing missing: a key element that would give him an identity feared by those who upheld a fractured law.

That was when The Paradigm made their prescence known. So-called "superheroes" who acted with the consent of the United States government, Anderson watched their rise to popularity among the masses for their acts of selfless heroism. Taking inspiration in the places that suited his goal - the flamboyance, the anonymity, and clear the sense of power they so freely displayed - Anderson looked to the greek myth of Nemesis, the god of retribution, as his overall canvas to start a one-man criminal empire.

Donning a cape and cowl, outfitting a secret lair of highly advanced gadgetry and vehicles, and securing his place as the billionaire playboy CEO of a communications industry, Nemesis quickly went to work expanding his assets, recruiting various agents underground to help produce an army. Now ready to strike back at the cowards who wear their shame proudly as a badge, the plan has been set in motion to first target Washington, DC in a series of systematic attacks. Then, when their defenses are compromised... keep going.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Villain

List a few reasons why you chose this character: If you were to look up the Nemesis backstory that Millar included in the book, you'd notice that I made several big changes and included my own mythology around it. That's because, while I was very excited to see the concept of a Batman gone completely evil be executed in print, I wasn't quite as satisfied with the end result of it. I didn't feel like it really captured the spirit of what the concept was billed as, and I didn't think it was written with the intention of really capitalizing on the storytelling potentials that it presented. It was one of the rare instances in comics where I took a comic, read it from start to finish, and told myself "I could do better than that."

So here I am, ready to put myself to my own word. I also want to use the character to help bridge into useage of some of my favorite Indie characters that, honestly, I can't see anyone else using. The Paradigm from Mark Waid's "Irredeemable", for instance, are key to the story I have in mind. Same with Hunter Rose from Matt Wagner's Grendel. I also want to kick off into some twisted backhanded reinterpretations of some of Batman's allies and rogues gallery, just to make it all seem that much more genuine that this, for all intents and purposes, is exactly what it would be like if he were evil.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: Roleplaying experience of six years, aswell as a very clear affinity for all things "disturbed costumed billionaire". It also seems to be a trend these days that games have an abundance of heroes and very few villains to occupy the space, so I'm bringing this character in to help with that. This is the first time I've ever really chosen a villain over a hero when given the choice, and I want to play that up in a big way.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: Depends on how demented I'm feeling. Going off that, once or twice a day doesn't seem to be out of the question. :o

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

Stonebridge Maximum Security Penitentury. The world's most secure military prison facility since Alcatraz closed it's gates. I've had my eye on this little corner of hell for some time - supposedly outsourcing the resources to run a superprison through the cooperation of neighbored allies, the United States government spent a considerable amount of the taxpayer's dollar turning a simple island prison into a mess of modern technological security systems and military grade rapidfire minigun ports to line the four corners of the exterior walls.

Perhaps they simply overcompensated, but I suspect it's something else. The warden must want to intimidate the outside world into believing it's just as dangerous to try and break in as it is to break out, the latter of which they claim is impossible. It's not enough to know that behind those walls are some of the most dangerous men that have ever walked this planet - terrorist suspects, professional assassins, the works - they feel it nessecary to broadcast to the outside world that they are absolutely the real deal when it comes to detaining primary threats to the public at large.

Tonight, I'm going to attempt the impossible. It's a task deemed so insanely suicidal that even the highest ranking lieutenants of Al Queda would never dare attempt to replicate my actions. But if this works, and my plan reaches it's next phase, then it's well worth the risk. Simply put, I'm going to break into Stonebridge - and even better than that, I'm going to break into "the world's most secure military prison" by going right through the front entrance. Of course, being that they are trained to handle these situations, I expect nothing short of a batallion waiting for me on the other side.

They had better start praying.

"Attention! You are tresspassing! Stop your vehicle and identify yourself at once!"

By the time that the speedometer hits one hundred and thirty, I barely notice the sirens begin to blaze. Several of those black SUV's begin to speed in my direction, soon becoming blurs in the distance as they desperately try and intercept. There's a five and a half mile stretch between the island's bridge and the initial prison gates that circle the facility, the steel of each gate about twenty layers thick. My fingers already begin to slide over the controls for the car's artillery module. Hate to waste the rockets on their first outing.

Then again, it is a special occassion.

A spin of the wheel and the car slides against a dirt patch offroad. Hell of alot of military and armed personell closing in fast. The electrified nets would be ideal, but I'm having a moment of divine inspiration. I type in the commands for the shield plating to activate and ready the front defenses. The first few bullets hit the windshield, and I almost smile. This would be pleasurable if I didn't hate these men with a firey passion. Speaking of which...

*FSSH*

Live flamethrowers catch them by surprise. A few of them even have the time to go running, screaming about how they're burning alive. The rest don't live long enough to retreat. Vehicles begin to back away, obviously intent to call in the big guns. I take the opportunity and floor it, redirecting myself back onto the path.

"Scared of a little fire. These kids today..."

Character you'd like to portray: Optimus Prime

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: Optimus is a Cybertronian Autobot, or a large, highly-advanced sentient robot with the ability to transform into a vehicle form. Prime has loads of firepower, combat skills, and is a master leader and strategist.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): I'll be basing my interpretation off of the IDW Transformers version, primarily.

Fictional history of the character: Optimus Prime started life as Orion Pax, a member of the Cybertron Police Force. There he came in contact for the first time with Megatron, the future Decpticon leader. Megatron told him of the wide spread corruption in the Cybertonian government, which is something he experience first hand after arresting a friend of a high ranking official, and was almost killed because of it.

He was eventually arrested, but was freed by a loyal and non-corrupt Autobot, and given a matrix cavity.

Orion became a soldier at the outset of the civil war, and eventually rose to become Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots.

It was at Sherma Bridge, a devastating battle in the war, that Prime first engaged Megatron in one-on-one combat, ripping the Decepticon leader's cannon arm off. The two would continue to clash over the millenia, dolling out and receiving massive damage time after time.

Prime was present for the cataclysm that destroyed Cybertron, after which he commanded the Autobot army from the Autobot's command space station.

The war became a cold war of infiltration and decimation across the galaxy, and has now reached Earth, where Optimus will be force to restart the war in earnest and save the planet from the Decepticon threat.

List a few reasons why you chose this character: I had a hard time deciding on which Autobot to choose, but eventually went with Optimus in order to have an over-arching view on the state of the Autobots and the war in general.

It has been too long since I've been in the field, he thinks. Too long since he had shared the battle with those that he sent willingly into the fray. He wonders what they think of him, sitting here in the command center but not engaging the enemy.

The lack of news of Megatron added to his trepidation. The Decepticon leader hasn't been seen for decades at this point, an odd period of inactivity from the violence hungry leader. Prime often thinks of the bot that once gave him a manifesto on non-violent aggression and how much he has changed.

But Optimus Prime is roused from his thoughts as a message labelled urgent flashes on his main screen. He watches it, and stands. His time has come. Something has changed on a once quiet planet.

Updated.

Screen Name:
Spike_x1

Hopefully as many as necessary.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

Even while merely making our approach to the planet, all of the ship's crew could feel the air of death around the once great and powerful Cybertron. I can see the chill run down Cyclonus' framework. Out of all of my colleagues, I would have thought that he would have the struts to maintain composure at the sight of our old home on the viewscreen. Still, I cannot bring myself to blame him for being taken aback. Even I feel myself boiling with barely contained rage.

"Sensors, Scourge?" I ask my science officer.

"Nothing, sir. Cybertron is devoid of lifesigns."

Concern for Cybertronian life now overwhelms my sense of anger at what has become of the planet. "Planetary evacuation, perhaps? Are there any distress beacons or indications of the cause for Cybertron's lifelessness?"

"One moment," replies Scourge as he does a more in depth sensor scan. "There are radical radiation spikes sweeping the entire planet's surface, as well as intense seismic instability. I'm also seeing hundreds of distress beacons, but they've all been degraded from Cybertron's radiation."

"Not everyone escaped in time." I begin making my way off of the bridge and towards the nearest airlock. "Straxus, take us into orbit. The Ark should be safe from harm." As the pilot does as he's told, Cyclonus grabs my arm as if to ask where I'm going. "I have to see this for myself."

Within moments, I've found an airlock and made my exit to descend to the planet's surface on my own. The radiation can't harm me, and the quakes are of no concern. Landing safely in Kaon, my footfalls echo eerily over the planetwide silence and I can only sneer in disgust. This was once a bristling hub of ideas and inspiration for generations! And now the torn streets are lined with piles and piles of bodies, and some of them are even arranged as though they were intended to supply cover from gunfire. There was battle here, and it was especially brutal on both sides of the fight.

No, it wasn't just a battle. This was a war.

That's when I see it for the first time. One of two different types of crest that I would later discover all over Cybertron, representing those responsible for this apocalypse.

I'd say for Goliath put a new one up.

As for Donny, I'm hesitant to approve it. I don't mean to be a control hog, but as of right now my story with the Turtles is really a solo arc with some openings for interactions with people outside of the Turtles mythos. You'd be handcuffed a lot, and in turn it would handcuff me. Again...I'm sorry, but I really don't think it would work.

Just a heads up that I'm posting this in all the OOC threads. I got mod approval and I'm passionate about it, so ****ing deal with the spamming! :cmad:

Talking with some people last night and I think there's one thing we don't do anymore that really would be beneficial. Giving feedback and properly reading other people's posts. Everyone wants to know what people think of their work, especially if it's good. Used to be, people would comment in the OOC thread about an individual post.

That really never happens anymore and it's kind of turned things for games into disjointed fanfics. We're not posting in a vacuum, tell each other what you think. I'm as guilty of this as others, but I think if we all take the time to read and give feedback, it encourages folks to keep up the good work. Everyone wants to be appreciated.

So I've got an idea for a story arc down the line (have 2 arcs to get through with the Turtles before I get there) involving a multiverse traveling idea.

One Universe: Independents Edition RPG APPLICATION

Screen Name: MST3K 4ever

Character you'd like to portray:Dashiell R. Faireborn: Flint

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest:Flint is a born leader that inspires those under his command, a brilliant military strategist, a special forces soldier and a chopper pilot as well.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): There are so many variations from so many comics, so for now I'll go with the one most familar to me GI Joe: A Real American Hero. Marvel Comics.

Fictional history of the character: Dashiell was a Rhodes Scholar with a degree in English Literature, but Dashiell found the academic life boring and longed for adventure so he joined the military.

It was his training in the world of academics that gave Dashiell the drive he needed to succeed in the Military. Graduating at the top of his class in Special Forces, Airborne Training, and Warrant Officers school.

Dashiell led several missions successful missions into hostile territory, and it was this success that caught the attention of Conrad "Duke" Hauser of GI Joe who recruited him to be a part of the elite fighting. Dashiell was given the code name Flint.

Flint went on to become 3rd in command at GI Joe, and earned the respect of those who served with him. He also would fall in love with one of those he served with: Allison Hart Burnett code-named: Lady Jaye.

Flint's career in GI Joe could not have gone any better if he wanted it to. He was respected and well-loved, COBRA feared him, and if the day came when Hawk would step down it looked as though it was a virtual tie between he and Duke as to who would actually get command of GI Joe.

That was until a mission into Qa'Tar, Kuwait. Flint and 10 other Joes were framed for an assassination they did not committ. However all the evidence pointed to them and they were not only thrown out of GI Joe, but were sentenced to life in prison in a completely automated prison on an island called Bella-Cava that no one but General Hawk knew of. Where they were not only cut off from the rest of the world, but they were cut off from having contact with one another as well. (Sample post will pick up from here)

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character:I really like GI Joe and Flint has always been one of my favorites. This is a unique spin in the sense that this is not GI Joe vs COBRA, but this is a newly formed GI Joe unit against a much larger threat than COBRA. Flint must now lead a unit that is dealing with the loss of their lively-hood, their names/ranks, their families all think they are dead, and the equipment they are using is somewhat outdated just to name a few of his challenges. Flint has a lot of challenges ahead of him and how he deals with them is the basis of the character.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG:; I am in several of the RPGs so I know the players here. I was playing in RPGs before most of the people in the Hype RPGs were even born so I have been around a time or two.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG:When I can even more when I am involved in an Arc.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length:

It was said in "The Shawshank Redemption" that in prison a man will do just about anything to keep his mind occupied, and Warrant Officer Dashiell "Flint" Faireborn is no exception.

Flint sits in his stone solitary cell. He watches as the moonlight shines through a set of bars on the top of a window-sill shining onto a drawing he made of Lady Jaye out of rocks he found in cell.

He turns to the stone drawing and says, "Well hello beautiful nice to see you again. What shall we talk about tonight?"

Flint sits there as though the picture will respond and he says, "We talked about that last night. How about we talk about the mission into London? The one where I had to repel off of Big Ben to save you and Stalker from being gunned down by the Dreadnocks. That's always a fun one. Okay you start."

Flint nods as though the picture is talking to him and he says, "Yeah you always did have issues with waiting for the right moment. Go on..."

Flint stares at the picture and then moves his hand over it.

He says, "I'm so sorry it didn't work out the way we planned Allison. No use in calling you Lady Jaye anymore, I'm not in GI Joe anymore. I haven't been since...since...he was thrown in here. Whenever that was."

Flint's mind drifts back to the day of the Military Tribunal and hearing the charages read against them, the other Joes with him professing outrage at the charges and claming they were set-up by someone, how he just stood there stone faced knowing that no matter what they said or did they were going to jail for life. This was one battle he couldn't find a way out of.

Perhaps the most painful moment more painful than feeling his rank being ripped from his uniform was the last time he saw Lady Jaye as they led him and the others away. She said she would dedicate her life to freeing him and the others. Flint told her he loved her and to forget about them this war was over.

Just then his automated cell-door opens. Flint knows to stand back and let the service droid come in otherwise an electrical shock would be used, but this time there is no service droid. In fact there is no one there and for the first time in a long time he looks across the hall and sees another door open. Flint sees his long time friend and former GI Joe teammate Roadblock.

The two men approach each other in the hall and just stare at one another for a moment. Then the two men embrace one another. Both men are now weeping as Flint says, "It's great seeing you again Marvin!"

Marvin replies, "You too Dash! You too!"

Before they know it the hall is filled with the other 9 joes and everyone is embracing each other and weeping.

Then suddenly there is a high-pitched whistle and everyone turns to see standing before them a bald-headed man with a goatee and camo-fatigues who says, "All-right break it up. You all have a lot of work ahead of you!"

Flint says, "General Hawk?"

Hawk nods....(And the first post will pick up from here)

One Universe: Independents Edition RPG APPLICATION

Screen Name: Carnage27

Character you'd like to portray: Buffy Summers, the Slayer

Superhuman powers, traits, other attributes of interest: As the Slayer, she has superhuman strength, agility, speed, reflexes, endurance, and healing. She also has heightened senses and can detect supernatural creatures around her.

Buffy also has all the memories of all the Slayer line that came before her. This allows her prophetic dreams and gives her a natural fighting ability.

Originally appearing from (which comic, and company?): Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dark Horse Comics

Fictional history of the character: Just a few years ago, Buffy Summers was a normal, teenage girl living in Los Angeles. She was popular, rich, and to be honest snobbish. But that all changed when the Watcher known as Merrick showed up at her door claiming she was the Slayer, destined to help man fight against the supernatural evils of the world. Merrick trained her in the ways of the Slayer to prepare her, even though she was still wary of her destiny.

Shortly after that, the vampire Lothos invaded LA during the Ogdru Jahad incident, killing Merrick and forcing Buffy to take up the mantle of Slayer she now knew she had to do. She repelled Lothos's bid to take over the city, but in the process burnt down her school gym. The authorities and her mother believed it was a nervous break down, and the Summers moved out of LA and to the small town of Sunnydale.

Now Buffy looks to continue her life as the slayer in the quiet town. But things are not always what they seem. Sunnydale holds dark secrets and Buffy's emergence has drawn other interests.

Hero, Villain, or Walking the line?: Hero

List a few reasons why you chose this character: I've always loved Serenity/Firefly, and after The Avengers, I figured it was time to catch up on other Whedon stuff. I know the game is dying, but I've enjoyed the show, and I want to try and play out a story in this shared universe.

Write two complete sentences explaining what you can bring to this RPG: A warm body that's able to post.

How many days a week you intend on posting in the RPG: Probably try to get a few posts in a week.

Please provide a small sample post as your character, at least three paragraphs and one line of dialogue in length: New school, new town, new set of social cliques and faux pas. Not the first time I've had to deal with it, but this is the first time after finding out I'm humanity's anointed weapon against the undead scourges of the world. And most of the people at this hellhole just seem interested in finding a date.

Like I was a few months ago. Seems like all it takes is a few blood-thirsty demons in your life to really show you what the important things in life are.

As I space out and traverse the new school's hallways, I bump into a mousey redhead, who drops her books in a nervous squeak, "Oh! Sorry, really! I didn't mean to. I fully accept your social humiliation."

I chuckle slightly, and smile at her. A year ago I never would have given a girl like this the time of day. Now? Well, she seems nice enough, "It's okay. Here, let me help you." I pick up a few of her books and offer her my hand, "My name's Buffy. I'm new here."

"Willow...nice to meet you," she responds/

So the game is basically dead. But I have one, final hurrah to go with it. I've finished writing down where I'm going to go with both of my characters, both of which will end up on the same team fighting a great threat.

The idea I have I believe is fairly epic, so if there are any of the other players out there that have a desire to read, I urge you to do so. I think it's by best put together idea in a long time.

After I finish, though, I'm probably gonna leave this thing to finally die a death.
