I'm excited for TDKR, but not it's teaser. The teaser will probably be similar to the TDK teaser & that thing sucked IMO. The ASM trailer will probably blow TDKR's teaser out of the water, since there'll actually be some footage. Though, TDKR's trailer on the other hand....
The TDKR teaser is 1:33, and ASM's teaser is 1:40. The TDK teaser was :59. I think the TDKR teaser will include footage. It's too long not to have any. Same with ASM's.

You mean the one with Symbiote Spidey on the chruch ? If so I'd love something like that as far as footage goes.

While I think the teaser for TDK was short and effective I seriously doubt they were going to repeat that style so yeah I am expecting at least some kind of footage with Bale as Batman.
Any preview for any Spider-Man movie should have at least one shot of Spidey in action period.

I'd say there's about a 99% chance that it premiers with Captain America. It's been confirmed that a trailer is coming in July and that's about all we know as of now.

I think Sony really wanted it with Transformers 3 but couldn't put it together in time. So yeah it being attached to Captain America makes sense.

Once we're past all of the teaser trailer stuff, I think it'd be cool to have character themed trailers in the months leading up to the movie's release, like one for The Lizard, one for Spider-Man. But then again, they do that stuff with TV spots, don't they? lol
Spider-ManHero12
07-09-2011, 08:56 AM
^^ Yeah, that would probably work best with TV spots. Though, there was a S-M3 symbiote themed trailer.

I'd like to trailer to focus on the highschool aspect of Peter Parker. Show him getting picked on/bullied, brief shot of the spider bite and then BAM a couple action shots, followed by one money shot of the Lizard at the very end. Simple yet effective, plus it helps the GA differentiate between Rami's film.

Ditto, but it's gonna be oh so good! :-D I'm so excited for this month! The one i'm most looking forward to the most is of course Spidey, then Avengers, then Batman. This month is gonna be so flippin amazing just based on the fact that i'll be getting three teasers for the three movies i'm anticipating so much! :awesome:

I know i kinda missed this discussion but (even tho i was the one who started it lol) eh...
This is something I'm REALLY excited for. Maybe they'll drop some news. Trent Reznor would be cool, and his harsh, sharp kind of tone might fit this darker movie pretty well.
Then there's Michael Giacchino, who creates a hell of a theme for basically whatever he does.
And Mychael Danna, who did the score for (500). If you listen to that score, I TOTALLY hear Spider-Man. I hope Webb sticks with his roots and goes for Danna.
Michael Giacchino is AMAZING! I never really thought of him of one to compose Spidey, but now i think about it he would be good to do it, I loved his stuff on Lost and Let Me In.
As fir Danna i cant really comment as i havnt seen the movie (yeah i know, i soooo need to pick it up :whatever:) I agree Trent Rezner could be good,
Michael Simpson (or Dust Brothers) could be good too.
I'd love it if someone new who was amazing, i mean amazing came onto the scene though by composing this movie.
ayway just my two cents...

I have a feeling this will be with Harry Potter in England at the very least. There's been numerous mentions of trailers being in the UK and as everyone knows HP is coming out next Friday there. I mean I'm not saying I'm positive about it but I think it's pretty likely.

Oh for sure! And I'll end up liking it...but I'm more into the violent side of Scorsese, his old side. This is, what you say, intriguing for what he's done before this. Like a complete 180 spin.

I actually have the series on DVD..I got it right before I went to college or during my freshman year..can't remember and it was maybe $15..it definitely has it's issues but there are things I really like about it. The Lizard episode was great, I didn't mind Aunt May not being there as much as I had issues with the embargo they had on a lot of villains so they didn't get the opportunity to use them. Couldn't use Goblin, Ock, Sandman or Venom if I recall and I think there were a few more just in case they wanted to use them in the movies....I hate embargoes. I did love the relationship between Harry and Pete though and even his relationship with MJ.

It's good to know Kloves is a fan of Raimi's films. I don't see how Raimi's version is cartoony, but whatever. We all have different opinions.
I wonder what he means by following the action? That's a good thing, if you ask me. Did they use the Spyder-Cam for this film? If so, then I expect we'll see the same type of action "with" Spidey as we did before. I'm also guess thing they whent through round 2 of the mechanical vs. organic web-shooters, lol?

I think he means "with Spidey" in the realm that with 3D, you can really follow the action very easily and feel like you're with them..The Spidey-Cam was used more so for swinging scenes if I'm not mistaken and with 3D, you can take that to the next level..there's a great scene in transformers that illustrates what I'm trying to say.
As far as the word, "cartoonish" I don't think he or the interviewer mean it as a slight, because he said that's Sam's style and all of Sam's movies have that style to them, everything really jumps off of the screen and is almost to the point where he is winking at you behind the camera and that works perfectly for Sam. But it is the same way that Tim Burton's Batman is compared to Batman Begins and The Dark Knight: While Tim's two films are definitely dark and very brooding, there is a very bright and cartoonish feel to them in certain parts, particularly with the Joker. That doesn't mean it's bad because Tim knew how to do that and most of Tim's films are like that. Like Kloves said, it works for Sam but he couldn't have worked on those films and Heath Ledger said the same thing about the Joker. He didn't understand how to play a villain in the world Tim Burton created but he understood how to play one in Christopher Nolan's world.
Pac-Master

?? How the hell did you come to that conclusion?
:lmao:
He says the tone is more realistic than the previous Spider-Man films. He wanted to make sure that the film was grounded in reality, because he said he can’t write cartoony dialogue. They told him reality was what they wanted, they wanted him to write Peter Parker as a real character. My favorite part of the interview.I don't see how Raimi's version is cartoony, but whatever. We all have different opinions. It's not an opinion, it's fact that Spider-Man had cartoonish dialogue and characters. As I have been saying for damn-near 10 years. I'm glad they got this guy on board, especially for the dialogue and character development for the two leads.

I don't think that's what he meant..I think he was saying there was a reason they went for mechanical and there may have been a bit of a debate in-house as to which direction to go in

It's good to know Kloves is a fan of Raimi's films. I don't see how Raimi's version is cartoony, but whatever. We all have different opinions.
Agreed. I didn't get that either. I guess he means less exaggerated.

I think Raimi's films were definitely cartoony... The big, busty, hot hos screaming into the camera multiple times over the course of one movie... Unnecessary
Lol that's funny..I really laughed out loud reading that..I don't know if I agree or disagree but that's hilarious lol

Raimi was a fan of the comics and made comic book films. He wasn't trying to "make Spider-Man realistic" so of course the movies have silly and ridiculous moments. People seem to forget the source material when criticizing Raimi's films...lol.

*bows* hahah
well deserved bow...anyway, now that I can think instead of laughing, you do have a point but as I said before, that works for Sam..he can have that type of thing in his movies and not have it feel forced or go overboard to the point where it feels like a B-movie. I know what scenes you're talking about also and while that worked then, audiences have shown that they don't really want that type of stuff in their comic book films now like Kloves said, it's a different time now. Movies are always a product of their time and those movies are products of their time. I love the first two and am really in love with the 2nd but based on what I just read and actually watching the interview, I'm really excited for this new take.

Raimi basically was taking the 60s sensibilities and transplanting them into a modern setting, which was an artistic decision that I did enjoy in the first two.

If that is the case, Well, Sam has stated himself that his Spider-Man's world is fantasty even though there are a lot of realistic elements in it. I, for one, have laways thought his Spider-Man was pretty damn realistic even though there were fantasy elemnts in there as well as the comics. One of the many things I love about his version.

It's not an opinion, it's fact that Spider-Man had cartoonish dialogue and characters. As I have been saying for damn-near 10 years. I'm glad they got this guy on board, especially for the dialogue and character development for the two leads. And that's why you will always remain a user that people argue with. You are ignorant to what is "fact" and what is an "opinion". Argueing with you is like argueing with a wall. Ther'es no smooth talking with you at all. It's your way or you don't want to hear it, which is laughable.

Yup and just like in the comics, it all depends on who's writing it or in this case, who's behind the camera. Some writers prefer Spidey as a street level hero when he fights the kingpin, the goblin and other mob types and some like when he gets tangled up in the fantasy moments with the FF and secret wars and Captain Universe lol..it all comes down to what type of stories you like and what works best for the character. In this case, the marketplace has changed a bit since 2002 and with a new director new cast and new writers, it only makes sense to change the tone. The funny thing about all of this, is they have these same arguments in comics..I remember Marvel, after JMS left the title and they did the whole Brand New Day with the rotation of writers, they all said that Spidey stories had become too serious and too realistic and they wanted to inject more of what they loved from the 70s. Different strokes for different folks

And guess what happened? The darkness that was taken out was for the best. Spider-Man comics, IMO, are better now than they have been since JMS/JRJR's run and most people agree.
In the end, all I want is to be satsified like I was with Raimi's version of Spider-Man. It had a lot of heart and still does. Hell, It's my favorite superhero film franchise of all time. I have hope this reboot will do the same for me.

I agree that it definitely went too dark but I'll always prefer JMS as a writer to anyone they've had writing since but that's just me. I do agree that they're definitely better than they've been since it was consistently JMS and John Romita, Jr...they had an incredible run and made great great great stuff. The only thing that tarnishes this current run of comics, for me anyway, is the fact that I can't get invested in any of Pete's relationships..the one with Carlie is forced and you know it won't go anywhere because they don't want the guy to have another MJ type relationship. She is definitely something sorely missing from the books.
Plus, to be fair to JMS, a lot of this darkness that Marvel and the writers had a problem with, was based on Marvel's direction of the character..civil war, the unmasking, the back in black tie-in with Spidey 3, and One More Day...JMS' last couple of years on spidey were all driven by higher editorial mandates
And I wouldn't worry about the movie having heart because Steve Kloves has injected heart in every Harry Potter film he's written. Lol I know you're not a fan of the franchise but definitely check some out to get a hold of his style and what he can do

I think you know which one I'm talking about, lol. As for Carlie, she's no Mary Jane, but I like her.
Definitely agree about the editorial stuff. That goes to show that permanent darkness is not meant for Spider-Man. Joe Quesda REALLY pissed me off when he split up Pete and MJ. However, ever since that first issue of BND, I've had an overall big smile on my face.
I really liked Back In Black, but Civil War can just go to hell with unmasking him. I actually dropped ASM for a short time before he unmasked. It disgusted me so much, but it wasn't for long.

Even though I agree with you, it still doesn't make it fact. It's an opinion. Because what people view as "real" is subjective. Most people would view the people on Jersey Shore as cartoonish imitations of normal people. However, there are people who act like that every day.
So yeah, it's still an opinion.

See that's the thing, I like her too but as readers, we know it's not going anywhere and I feel that their relationship has just been forced from a writing standpoint and to a reader. Slott is an awesome writer and I love what he's doing with everything else except that relationship. He really knows the character and knows what to do with him and is actually letting him grow and progress, but then don't expect me to be all invested in he and Carlie if you've already told me that the relationship can go nowhere because it will "age" the character. That's double talk to me. I liked parts of back in black but I also recognized it for what it was..marketing tie-in lol..I remember when it started and spider-man 3 came out, they had Peter David and a couple other writers at Midtown comics in Manhattan autographing comics. Marvel knew they were doing a tie in and that's no diss to them but don't insult my intelligence.
Quesada pissed me off too because it was what HE wanted lol..for so long, I kept hearing that they were going to tell stories they couldn't tell with a married spider-man and aside from the Black Cat entanglement, what couldn't have been told if he and MJ were still together? Then the excuse that it's hard to write a married Spider-Man, well JMS wrote it extremely well so I cry BS on that one too. I really don't think this movie will be doom and gloom dark but will probably be in the tone of some of the more recent Harry Potter movies, which is a perfect balance of reality and fantasy.

I guess to each his own about Spidey's love life. I loved when he and MJ were married, but I've sort of gotten over it since then. It did piss me off when they were split though.
Well, writers have been trying to end the marriage for years, lol. When I first heard that they were definitely going to be split, it really did burst my bubble. The fact that the character aged is one of the things I loved about the character. He whent from being a high school kid, to a college kid, to a full fledged adult. One of the many things I loved during JMS's run was when Peter was a teacher as well as his overall relationship with MJ (as his wife). There was a closeness about the characters that was there in that run. I can't really put my finger on it.
However, like I said, I've been having the time of my life with the current state of Spider-Man comics. It's like a breath of fresh air after a few years of medicore-good Spider-Man stories and I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope it continues. Spider-Island sounds fantasitc and will most likely be another addition to one of my favorite Spide-rMan stories in recent years. Call me happy.
The stuff started to go downhill with Sins Past, if you ask me as well as The Other. Civil War was unncessary for SPidey, Back in Black was good (if you ask me), OMD was terrible and BND was awesome. That's how I see it, lol.

I've gotten over it definitely but I just feel she is sorely missing from the books..being with her definitely helped Pete grow up and it was evident in the last issue where he doesn't want to tell Carlie the truth about him being Spider-Man..he had come a long way from the guy who felt the person he was with couldn't handle that secret and now he's back to it. That closeness you mentioned came from JMS writing them as a real couple instead of a comic book couple, if that makes any sense..he didn't make their relationship typical or stereotypical.
They had been trying to get rid of the marriage for a while but I felt JMS did a great job with them and I loved Pete being a teacher because it was a natural evolution, although I like him working for Horizon much more..and the less said about Sins Past, the better. But The Other was another editorial mandate and it was terrible. Quesada did a lot of bad to Spidey now that I think about it

As for Quesada in general, his choices were bad before BND. I don't think he intended for them to be bad, but they were flat out poor. Well, most of them, anyway. Since BND, we've gotten Villains such as Mr. Negative, which I think is a very interesting character and is quite different. Back before The Spectacular Spider-Man TV show was cancelled (Damn you whoever was involved in cancelling it!!!), Greg Weisman stated that he would like to use Mr. Negative down the line. Would have been awesome, if you ask me. Eddie Brock is also now Anti-Venom, which I think was a great step foward with the character since he got cancer. And now Flash is Venom, which seems to be qorking out greatly. You should check out the new Venom series by Rick Remender.

I gotta agree. While, Spidey had a couple of horrible years, Dan Slott's fixed that & is writing some really entertaining stories. Though, I do wish that writers would of pursued the Ms. Marvel/Spidey thing hinted at in New Avengers, instead of giving Peter some random girl who isn't Gwen or MJ. It would of been interesting to see Peter date someone who could kick his ass.

I have a question for you guys...
If the trailer were to leak in bootleg quality this week, would you watch it, or would you skip it and wait for the HD version in two weeks? Just wondering.
I'd watch it in black&white with no sound!!

Yeah it sounds really promising from the amount he's said in the interview. I like that 'he said he doesn't write cartoony dialouge.' So I doubt this will feel too over-the-top comic book-y and I imagine it's gonna be more well... realistic and that all important 'gritty.'
It's good to hear he likes writing for Peter and Gwen. Although I hope they don't write Gwen as the same sarcastic caustic girl Emma always plays in alot of her movies.
I was looking forward to seeing a completely different character from Emma. Not any kind of nerd and not a 'deadpan snarker' either.

Just Gwen as Gwen should be to a modern audience. It isn't asking for much.

It probably is with Cap.
Putting it with Potter could actually be a bad idea. I don't want to start an argument, but let's face it - if both TAS and TDKR had trailer debuting with Potter, TDKR's going to be more talked about.

I understand what you're saying, but I don't think what it comes with will make any difference. If people are gonna talk about TDKR more than TAS then it's down to there being more fans of the former, not what film it was shown with. If anything, Potter will have more viewers than Cap so it would help to even the odds. Even if Spidey was shown with Cap, TDKR would still have a larger following. You only have to see the number of viewers on TDKR boards to work that out.

Ehhh, I don't know if that's necessarily true. Of course people wanna see the finale to Batman, but a new Spider-Man, (with a hopefully bangin trailer) will definitely have people interested. And just like that, the hype machine begins. Well, obviosuly, Spider-Man would draw a massive crowd whether it's for Spider-Man 4 or TASM because it's Spider-Man. I think people have been wanting another Spider-Man film for a while.

Not as many people will see this movie. Just because it's Spider-Man doesn't mean you'll get the same audience. It's facing more of an uphill battle this time. It will do well enough, but it won't make as much as the other three. The whole reboot thing is going to make people skeptical as it is.

Look at Batman Begins. It was a reboot facing an uphill battle (well...more like a straight 90 degree battle) and it did OK at the box office even though, I feel, it's Nolan's best work. (Yes, even better than TDK)
Spider-Man will probably do the same. But then there are those who think a bad costume=a bad movie. You don't like the costume? Fine. Give the freaking movie a chance.

I still say good word of mouth will put past any skepticism..plus the over a years worth of promotion. X-men first class and Batman Begins didn't start their promotional campaigns as early as Spidey will. It may not make as much as Spider-Man 3 but I think it will be comparable to the first spidey film. X-Men first class didn't start promoting until, April I think and the film came out in June. Batman Begins started in December 04 with Ocean's 12 and the movie was released the following June. There all guesses but I don't think it's accurate to say that it will or won't put a bad taste in people's mouths, the only real way to know that is the interest level in the film once July '12 gets closer.

Gwen's one of my favorite characters in TSSM and I'm looking forward to seeing her again in the reboot. Anyways, I don't know if the reboot will make as much money as the last ones did, but I still think it'll still do pretty well at the box office. It is Spider-Man, after all. Plus, I'm sure that a lot of kids will want to see the movie which will help boost its numbers.

TAS, in my opinion, will be either new BB (+ 3D, which obviously means more money) or another SR (not that low, but still disappointing). I am hoping for the former, of course.

And I think it's pretty much obvious that we're going to be getting a -fairly- juicy trailer after the delay we had for this previously, to polish up the effects.

Me too. I prefer the final swing from the first film. It felt more like you were swinging with him due to the camera following him so closely. In the second, although great, I felt more of a spectator, like I was watching him from a window or something. Plus, with the first swing he interacted with the enviroment--running on the walls, swinging from the cranes, grabbing the flag pole. Iconic? I think so.

I remember sitting in the theater watching that end swing and being in awe. Hell, the second swing was fantastic as well with him swinging with the helicopters and all.
