No, there is a thread about the complete box set, i'm just talking about the S10 DVD set, not the complete set, thank you
Now, according the DVDActive, this could be the final artwork for the DVD.
Anybody know if there are bloopers or did they stop that like in season 4?

After the finale did you really think they would put him in the suit for the dvd cover? The only way that's going to happen is if you print out a fan made photo and tape it on the box.

I honestly don't think they took any photos of Tom in any part of the suit so the only way I could see that happening is if they used a screen capture.

Count me in as someone who's wondering what's going on with the S10 boxset. I know they won't (and better not) go with the one used for the complete set. I know it's unlikely, but I hope for something like a shirt or the costume, but chances are we'll get some cheap photo-shopped pic.

I still don't get it. That particular image with Clark in a suit and the Superman shadow behind him, has been out for months. If that image has been out for months, why would they just now release it? Just doesn't make any sense whatsoever. I'm telling you, this same image was shown right after the finale aired, on the UK Amazon website. This was on Supermanhomepage.com....."Warner Home Video has released artwork and details on the up-coming "Smallville" Season 10 DVD and Blu-ray release and Complete Series DVD set due out November 29, 2011." That tells me that it's official, but it still doesn't make sense and needless to say, I am highly disappointed if this is truly the final cover artwork.

Smallville Series and Season 10 Press Release
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/1751/smallvilles10.jpg
The series that redefines the origins of the world's greatest hero reaches its powerful conclusion with more revelations, more fascinating characters from DC Comics lore, and a mind-blowing, spirit-lifting finale that is everything fans could want. In this 22-Episode Season 10, super heroes emerge from the shadows, only to be driven underground by a public that labels them vigilantes.
At the same time, otherworld forces of darkness gather, presenting Clark Kent with the greatest challenge of his young life. The world he calls home and the people he loves - including Lois Lane, who now shares his secret and his life - need a champion. They shall have one. Don't miss all the hopes, heartaches and heroics of a final season to remember. They will lift you up, up and away!
November 29th, the Tuesday following the American Thanksgiving holiday (which kicks off the holiday gift-shopping season) is the correct street date for all three of these. The 10th and Final Season set, in both DVD and Blu-ray Disc format, will come with extras in the form of Commentaries on 2 Key Episodes;
Unaired Scenes;
"Smallville: Coming Home" (Cast and Creators Reflect on the Landmark 200th Episode "Homecoming," in Which Clark Kent Experiences Transformative Events on the Way to His Final Destiny);
"My Fathers, My Son" (How Clark Kent's Fathers/Son Relationships Evolved over the Series' 10 Years); and a "How Do We Do" Music Video.
Smallville - The Complete Series (billed as "the ultimate collector set for the ultimate fan") features over 192 hours of content that includes over 5 hours of newly-added special features including a never-before seen Superboy pilot from 1961, a 90 minute series retrospective with all new interviews, the 2010 final Comic Con panel, the Aquaman (a.k.a. "Mercy Reef") Pilot, and a Paley Festival featurette. Plus off-disc bonus items that includes an Exclusive Daily Planet newspaper written by DC Comics (highlighting the important storylines developed during the 10-year run of the show), 2 lay-flat picture books which hold the 62 DVDs, and an Episode Guide with never-before-seen production art (storyboards/sketches) and behind-the-scenes photos.

In a way, it actually is and isn't. Considering the show ended in a way that was to try to force it to fit into the original film mythos, and seeing how SR is a "vague" sequel to those films, the argument can be made that they are in the same continuity, despite the fact that Lois already knows he's Superman.

Well... I think their thinking is that - if you are going to buy it, you are going to buy it. No one is gonna be browsing through the dvd/bluray shelf at the store and go "wow, I have some free time tonight, I'm gonna watch season 10 of smallville!"

Are you referring to the complete series not being on blu-ray? My understanding is that it would be too much money to spend on transferring the older seasons to 1080p. It's of course feasible if Smallville was more popular but I just don't think they want to spend that much money on a series that's already finished.

I disagree. If the show was it's own thing, then why use the exact same exterior for the Fortress that was used in the movies? Jor-El still wore the white robe with the black shield. There were quite a few instances where it lined up with the movies. He ultimately wore the same suit that was used in the movies. Granted, that style of the suit (with different materials of course) has been the same in the comics for years, so I guess you really can't count that. I don't know, I guess there is a fine line.
SpideyVille
07-27-2011, 11:13 AM
The show WAS its own thing for about 4-5 seasons. After that, it was pretty clear that they were being influenced more by the films than anything else. The only major differences is that Lois found out the secret early on and Lex is a businessman who is now in charge of what has become Lexcorp, as opposed to being some criminal in pursuit of beachfront property.

I'm willing to overlook alot of the things SV does that people consider ****ty, but the more I think about the final episode, the more it genuinely pisses me off. They had ten years to get there. On top of that, they had a full year knowing that this was the end. And on top of that, they had a two hour finale! And yet the entire Clark's first flight/Clark becomes Superman was done in the most ridiculous, sloppy, rushed five-minute scene I've ever witnessed. Shoot, I can even overlook them not giving us a full costume shot, because I liked the idea of the shirt rip at the very end, but the becoming Superman was just poor. Just awful.

Also, seeing how they handled the thing with Henry James' little brother taking over, I think it wouldn't have been so bad if they had decided that Jimmy's little brother takes over but uses the name as a tribute to his brother who he admired a lot, as opposed to completely trying to unsuccessfully fool the viewer into thinking that Jimmy wasn't really Jimmy.

You know, I can still watch the letters promo and the Canadian promo for the series finale and still get goosebumps. The anticipation for the finale was the best part. For the most part, I was satisfied with the way the series ended. I would have changed a few things here and there but it still left me with a smile on my face.

It's total utter ******** to the people who've bought the show each season like myself that we're getting so boned on the extra features department now.
It's not bad enough that we have to wait until the ass-end of November unlike every other year when we got such by this week in August.
It's not bad enough the original DVD packaging for the first three seasons was so shotty that it broke with absolute minimal wear.
It's not bad enough that the packaging for seasons 4 through 7 is the lame cardboard 'accordion' style that also, as far as the 'teeth' the grip the center hole of the DVD is concerned, also break with minimal wear.
Nooooo, that's not bad enough.
Now in order for them to make the most for their money and put it for Holiday buying, we get screwed even more on both time and features.
All because we supported the show every god damn mother ****ing season individually instead of waiting an entire decade to buy the **** sucking DVD box set!!!!
...This actually has me more angry than Welling not putting on the ****ing suit like he was supposed to!
**** you, WB! **** you, CW!

The individual season boxset will be DVD and Blu-Ray, but not the Complete Series Boxset. That will just be DVD since they didn't want to bother converting the earlier seasons to Blu-Ray.

Well its not they didn't want to bother converting the older seasons. It was to stupid technical reasons, and problem wbtv not wanting to get into the hole spending x amount of money and it doesn't come out good. Even though sv sets always sold extremely well.

I don't buy the technical reasons being the issue. I think it's more of a financial issue. They probably don't want to spend the money on a show that is already over. As for the series selling really well...I don't think it sells well enough to spend the extra money and time on the conversion.

I agree, and like I said, it's more that they don't want to as opposed to technical issues or anything else like that. Star Wars is old, but still has a really high fan base that will buy the Blu-Ray Trilogy, but Smallville was decent at best, with a not so great fan base. Some of that has to do with the poor promotion of the show, which has been made much more evident by the fact that the box set extras are minimal and the cover art looks like a cheap attempt to look symbolic made by some fan.

Tom Welling: Five ‘Smallville’ co-stars who taught me most
Nov. 11, 2011 | 9:12 a.m.
Welling said veteran actor John Glover was a key influence. "As an actor, there's really nothing I can say that hasn't already been said. The way he was able to come in with Lionel Luthor -- who was, literally, not supposed to stay around long -- and create so much, it was amazing. Whenever I was going to work with him, it really got me going. I knew it was always going to be interesting and great. I learned a great deal from him. He does a lot of homework before he gets to the set." (Jack Rowand/The CW)
http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2011/11/11/tom-welling-five-smallville-co-stars-who-taught-me-most/luthor-8/
The complicated on-screen relationship between Lex Luthor and Clark Kent spilled over to the set. "Michael Rosenbaum playing Lex was huge," Welling says. "A fan favorite in every way, of course. He taught me a lot about what to do but he also taught me a lot about what not to do. He's such a dynamic actor and has these great comedic sensibilities. He's a very different person than his character and his ability to jump in and out -- literally at the snap of a finger -- amazed me. It taught me that I don't work that way and it did it in a good way. I learned about what I needed to do." (Jack Rowand/The CW)
http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2011/11/11/tom-welling-five-smallville-co-stars-who-taught-me-most/finale-12/
Annette O'Toole and John Schneider played Martha and Jonathan Kent, the adoptive parents of the last son of Krypton -- and on the set they were also key figures for Welling as he learned to handle fame, stress and craft challenges. "Jonathan and Martha Kent were huge, not as an influence only on Clark's life but on the set and being mentors to me and being someone for me to learn from." (Jack Rowand/The CW; The WB)
http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2011/11/11/tom-welling-five-smallville-co-stars-who-taught-me-most/ks-ca-1011-smallville-2/
In 2003, Christopher Reeve, the man who starred as Superman on the silver screen, created a ratings sensation when he appeared on "Smallville." Welling still gets emotional when he reflects on the encounter with the star, who had been paralyzed in a horse-riding accident. "At the top of the list is Christopher who came on the show as the Dr. Swann character. Beyond the show, it was such a phenomenal experience for me and for all of us. I'll never forget that." Reeve died in 2004. (Ken Regan/The WB)
http://herocomplex.latimes.com/2011/11/11/tom-welling-five-smallville-co-stars-who-taught-me-most/ks-ca-0127-smallville-2/
In May, after 10 seasons, Tom Welling said goodbye to “Smallville” (and Metropolis) but loyal fans can revisit the world of Clark Kent, his friends, foes and lovers with the massive new collector’s DVD set that hits stores on Nov. 29. And we do mean massive — the super-sized collection costs $340 but has all 218 episodes and more than five hours of special features, all spread out over 62 discs. That’s right, 62 discs.
For Welling, now 34, the decade as the Man of Steel has defined his career and adult life.
“Even in the early days of the show, I approached it like I was in school and I was always going to be learning,” Welling said. “Luckily, we got people through the door who were creative and highly talented and the environment on the set was always very collective and open and warm. And I learned a lot, more than I can even say, really.”
We asked Welling to name the co-stars who taught him the most and he came up with five names right away. His answer are above in the photo gallery, be sure to click “CAPTIONS ON.”

Yup from what i recall they were not true 1080p/i copies just upconverted 720 or lesser degree. I forget which. But that is the issue they said they wanted the show to be perfect and it would take to much time and money to have to upgrade things. Which still is a bs excuess. But it would be great in a few years time if they did do a another ultimate collection thing and upgraded the whole show.

Actually, there was some outtake footage from the finale that (unfortunately) didn't make it on either the Season 10 set or complete series box set.
From Brian Peterson:
"So, we wrote a couple of extra scenes with some of the Darkseid mythology with Granny and with Godfrey. That ended up not making it into the final because actually the original script did fit. So those might end up showing up on the DVD or something somewhere and they kind of fleshed out the story a little, but because they weren’t our main characters they were the first to go."
Source: http://www.daemonstv.com/2011/05/13/brian-peterson-and-kelly-souders-on-the-smallville-series-finale/
When Craig from K-Site reviewed the complete series set, he made note of what the set could have included (but doesn't). Here the part that refers to the finale:
"On a similar note, Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders mentioned prior to the airing of the "Finale" that things - including a lot of the Apokalips story - ended up on the cutting room floor."
Source: http://www.ksitetv.com/9730/advance-review-smallville-the-complete-series-dvd-set-arrives-1129/
Check the review for all the other material that might have made it onto the series set. It's an interesting read.
When reviewing the (U.K.) Season 10 Blu-ray set, David Bentley (Coventry Telegraph) has this to say:
"I have to admit that the extra features aren't as spectacular as I was anticipating. I had envisaged there might be a montage of the highlights of the 10 seasons, a reflection by other cast members on their character journeys, an interview with Welling on finally becoming Superman and a look at the many faces of Superman in TV and film. Any of those would have made this section much more fulfilling and helped give it a better send-off, especially considering that Smallville eclipsed Stargate SG-1 to become America's longest-running sci-fi show."
http://blogs.coventrytelegraph.net/thegeekfiles/2011/11/blu-ray-review-smallville-the.html
Although I live in Canada, I ordered the region free Season 10 Blu-ray set from the UK (where it came out on Oct. 31st). The audio video quality is spectacular but the bonus material is sparse, especially for a final season set.
I'm looking forward to the 100 minute series retrospective that is included on the complete series set. I hear it's really impressive.

I'm pretty sure they stopped caring once the show was done. I mean from the cheap boxart cover, to the lack of special features on the DVD and with how the set is being released very late in the year, it seems like there wasn't a lot of importance placed on the series after the Finale ended.

Really if u want to complain on the sets. All we usually only had 2 to 3 episodes with commentaries, around 4 eps with deleted scenes(some good some bad), and then one or two featurettes reguarding guest villain/hero/theme of season. So what we have in tenth set is norm.

Yeah, I really hate how the 100-minute retrospect is on the complete set only. I hate it even more since I was planning to see it at NYCC a few weeks ago but couldn't because a friend of mine made me wait for the Avengers panel instead, which turned out to be a waste of time since we didn't even get in.
My hope is that someone manages to get it online. Various DC & Marvel documentaries have leaked over the years. Hoping for same scenario.

oh well it sucks the sv boards are over but at least we can still discuss things. Actually mike if you go through the pages here you can find a few of the other threads from sv board that were were discussing things as of late like the rewatch thread, the tom/erica/laura threads and a couple others. But ya like i said i recall the sticky thread and a email from one of the mods saying it would stay up to the dvd is released and it would be its own section just under a new numbered area. So I do wonder why we didnt get a sub forum spot in superman catagories in one of the sub forums there.

There was an announcement at the top of the forum saying that for over a month. Not sure what changed? But this kind of sucks, considering that for a almost a decade, it was one of the more popular forums on the Hype.
Superman Returns is long dead, and most in the SV forum had made their peace with things and were fine with Cavill. If they had fears about flame wars due to the old Welling/Routh days, I'm not sure they were well-founded.

Here a comprehensive review of the Smallville Complete Series set:
http://www.dvdauthority.com/6732
Sounds good. The only thing that concerns me based on the scans posted earlier on this thread is whether the packaging (cardboard holders) will result in disc damage.
There was an Avengers set (in the U.K.) that had a similar construct. Impressive looking packaging but not very practical in the long term - many had problems with it:

(Check the amazon link for reviews about the packaging)

That doesnt fly. Everyone of those shows began and ended well before the Hype even existed, and never had a sub-forum to begin with. Smallville just ended 6 months ago and had an avid following on this site for almost a decade. Not to mention, the final season DVD hasn't even been released yet.
Per the mod note that was at the top of the Smallville forum for over a month, the Smallville forum was supposed to remain where it was until the DVD came out, and then the forum was to be put under the Superman forum. Now suddenly over a week before the DVD even comes out, the forum just up and disappeared, and we're left with one crappy thread in the misc. TV forum. That's why people are asking these questions about what happened? Maybe Mirko can step out from behind the curtain and let us know why? No they wont unless you see people start to complain from either the Smallville thread being apart of the forum or people feel like they are being harassed or feel there should be more dedicated to the show. If you just start the thread and keep it down they will not care. Hell you might get away with more then one thread seeing how dead the Super-World forum is. Just give it a try and it is still there by the end of the week you have nothing to worry about.

The actual cover will have a big superman s in the background with chloe and two guns on the left side, lois looking like she is "investigating" on the right side oliver will be in the middle, tess will be there but she will be so small you wont even notice her really, lionel and lex will have the same treatment as tess clark will have on his blue and red outfit on he will be on the right top side with a superman shadow in the back, john and martha kent will be on the opposite side of clark and in the middle and biggest picture outta all of them will be Lana Lang in her "krypto suit" in a "xena warrior" type pose...

The Hype can be biased sometimes, but compressing Smallville's presence on the forums when it hasn't even been off a year is a bit much. If the cancelled Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon can get its own X-Men subforum, I really don't see how Smallville qualifies by "miscellaneous."

I've never seen a new season costing $18-21 during the week it comes out. Maybe the season prior to that one, but never the latest season. I think you would have to wait a year (maybe next Black Friday) for that kind of deal on season 10.

I doubt there will be a deal so soon after the release. I'm going to wait until next year to get it when the price drops. I don't have that burning feeling to get the new season like I used to. I hardly even watch the Smallville reruns on TNT.

First off, The show went down hill in Season 6 with the whole Lex and Lana marriage and the still nagging Clark, lana & Lex love triangle .
Season 7 had Kara coming to town and the end of Clana
Season 8 the show got revitalized with new energy where it transformed from Smallville to Metropolis and the beginning of Superman and Lois and Clark partnership and romance,
Season 9, Lois and Clark relationship beings to blossom into a true and passionate romance . Also The beginning of the dual identity and embracing his kryptonian heritage .
Season 10, Destiny Fulfilled

I would say the show kinda went downhill mid-season 5 after Jonathan's death and the Lexana arc.
Season 6 wasn't great with whiny Clark continued.
Season 7 was interesting, and kinda gets a pass because of the strike that messed up the second half.
Season 8 was a surprise with how they recovered from the departure of two main leads, but sort of ended on a disappointing note because of the Chloe/Doomsday story where suddenly Chloe was this amazing character. Not to mention Oliver was a regular but reduced to self-pity as opposed to cool action stuff as the Green Arrow.
Season 9 was simply awesome with the Lois/Clark stuff as well as Zod.
Season 10 was a mixed bag.It was good, but didn't really step it up to the next level since there was so much that was stuffed in.

I think season 10 was far better than season 9.
Overall, I'd say the latter half of season 5 and most of season 6 was the low point of the series.

I'm still bitter about no suit Welling. :o
At least season 9 had the black trenchcoat.

Eh. We got a shirt-rip. More than that would've been nice, but I didn't mind it.
What I did despise is how they handled flight. Quite frankly, he should've been flying for the entire season. :o
