View Full Version : Favorite character in the series?

Well now the 5th movie of the series is about at the end of it's run. We've all seen it, we've all ranked it with the rest of the series. This film brings back some characters that already existed in the franchise and expands upon them (Xavier, Magneto, Mystique, Beast), as well as introduces a slew of new characters. So how about a discussion on the favorite characters throughout the series - not just necessarily in one movie, but throughout the series.
I'm gonna add as many options to the poll as I can. If I run out, I'll just add a "Other" option, and you can explain it here.
I'm casting my vote for Magneto. I think he was the best portrayed character over his 4 appearances.
Honorable mention goes to: Gambit (of course, he's my favorite character ever), Beast, Cyclops, and Jean Grey.

this is a really hard question...
I still dont know which is my fave from the franchise... I need more time to think about it, lol

Nightcrawler for being the perfect one and done character. They captured him so well that while I would have welcomed more, I don't feel I need it.
The only character I felt completely satisfied with only having a few scenes.
Second choice would probably be Magneto. Such a bad a**

Possibly Beast. He's the only thing done well in TLS. I liked him a little less in FC but he's good there too.
Most of the other characters have had good films and bad ones. Stryker is an amazing character in X2 but completely boring in XO:W.

I'd agree with you on Beast.
I think that X-Men: First Class gave him a more iconic character arc (experimenting on himself and becoming blue), but as a character, I felt he was better portrayed in X-Men: The Last Stand.
Overall, I can't rate him higher than Magneto, but Beast is one of my favorites in the comics, and he's one of my favorites in the movies as well. I'm glad we got a 2nd movie with him now.

Ive decided.
Nightcrawler is my fave too. He had just a few scenes, but his presence was excelent.
The reasons I think he is one of the best from the franchise are the make up, the action and his lines.
They made a really good job with him, much much better than with most of the cast from the whole franchise.
I think the thing I love about his character is that he has the look of a demon but the soul of a believer. I think Bryan did a great job capturing that. And its one of the factors that made him a special character.
would have wished some other x-men had such attention and detail put on them, specially Angel....
anyway....
that's my vote. :)

Hmm, this is a toughie, loved all the characters in FC, X1 and X2, some of those characters were brought down by X3 (specifically Wolverine, Xavier, Magneto and Jean) and to a lesser extent Wolverine, but from both of those loved Gambit, Beast (although liked him more in FC) and Pyro.
As others have said Nightcrawler was pretty much spot in X2 and he was the first that came to mind for me, but I will have to do some thinking. I also thought Sebatien Shaw was a fantastic character.

Personally, my favourite X-men character has always been Rogue; but I felt they completely mishandled and ruined the character.
So instead I voted for Magneto. With honourable mentions to Mystique, Nightcrawler, Beast and of course Wolverine. (Even though they concentrated on him a little too much.)

I didn't vote, because I would have to chose two:
- Wolverine from the trilogy;
- Charles Xavier as portrayed by James McAvoy in FC (which hopefully will be a trilogy too).

My top vote, as strange as it may sound, goes to Shaw.
But in terms of characters I loved Erik, Charles, Raven (FC) and Hank (FC)...
I liked a great deal of the First Class characters really...apart from Moira...

Magneto from X-Men: First Class. IMO out of all the villains portrayed in any comic book movie based film, this is the only villain I felt sorry for. The only villain I could understand. And that is because of the character dynamics in First Class

WOW...just realized I'm the only...so far...showing Havok some love...
My beef with Havok is the same as Banshee... there just wasn't enough development put into them. I didn't really get a chance to see who they were, other than some very basic archetypes, and a couple displays of power.
For what they were, I thought Havok and Banshee were good. But I saw them as just better versions of Colossus or Angel from X-Men: The Last Stand - secondary minor characters that get no development outside of a couple displays of power and a handful of lines.
We'll see if they get any better development in future sequels.

If Fox goes into the direction of First Class and its character development (of the main characters) I feel it'll be successful.
I prefer Magneter.
He's my second favorite comic book character, and was used fantastically in every film he was in.
My favorite character in X-Men lore is Jean Grey, and I personally feel that X2 is the only film that makes great use of her character. She's pretty wooden in X1, and she's basically non-existent in X3.

Not surprised Magneto is winning. He was well portrayed in the movies and had some cool scenes, but eh, the motivations at the core of most villains are always so uninteresting to me. The banality of evil. Maybe that's why I couldn't care less when George Lucas decided to tell Darth Vader's story.
Magneto - at least the movies' version - was only about "kill the humans! kill the humans!". Meh. He even had to use his own kind, mutants, to achieve his goals - he was willing to kill Rogue, he was willing to left Charles to die. What an hypocrite, really. There's no way I can bring myself to admire Magneto, or his actions - only in terms of "cool sequences in the movie", like when he escaped from prison in X2.
His ending in X3 was perfect: powerless and alone.

I knew Magneto would be leading this, fantastic portrayal by both McKellan and Fassbender. I voted for Mystique though. Love her in all the movies.

Hard question to answer. Been a fan of the X-Men since I saw the first movie when I was nine.
My all-time favorite character: Gambit, hands down.
My favorite character from First Class is a hard call.
Magneto rocked, even Prof. X did, even though he's my least favorite mutant.
It was nice to see Banshee and Havok get some screen time.
....... I liked every Mutant from First Class. They all brought something to the table that made this movie my favorite of the series.
If I really had to choose it's a tie between Banshee and Magneto.

Magneto, based on FC alone. But even after that, ian mckellen was excellent.
Cyclops is my favorite x man of all time...but i cant vote for him for obvious reasons.

Mystique. The way she looked and moved in the first movie really interested me, andshe continued to entertain me for the other 2 movies. I love the solo producton music she gets when she appears (this was in X1, i cant remember if it continued) but every scene she appeared, she would have this mysterious theme play as the music which was taylored to her, and it really worked.
I love her fight scene with Wolvie in X1, and her fight scenes in X2 and In first class it was interesting seeing her with a lot of dialogue, and real acting and almost no fighting. I'd like to see Rebecca Romjin play her again in X4, but since she can take any form and pretty much they can do what they like with her without much explaning, i guess the actress from XFC could resume her roll.

Well I see someone else sees my point that there are too many differences
between beast In First Class and Beast In Last Stand.
It's hard to pick one from what I call core X-Filmes(X-Men,X2,First Class)

For the first three films, Wolverine. Origins- Gambit/Sabretooth. First Class: Magneto/Charles.
Nothin' beats Micheal Fassbender's take on Magneto, IMO.

The voting just confirms to me how First Class was a vehicle for Magneto, and Magneto only. Because if it was based on the trilogy, before FC, surely Magneto would receive a lot of votes but I don't think there would be such a discrepancy.
I was watching the Banshee training deleted scene, and it's really unfortunate how much interesting character development was taken away from Charles, Moira and the other X-Men. Thanks, Vaughn. :o

Magneto. When you have two great actors like Ian McKellan and Michael Fassbender making this character their own, but giving them unity, that tells volumes about the good material they've been given. But Fassbender took Magneto to a whole different level.
I picked Magneto, just on the strength of Fassbender's acting in XM:FC. I do think Famke Jannsen was a superb Jean Grey, even if she was short-shifted in X3.

I voted Beast because he's my favorite comic character EVER. I love the Juggernaut but they just didn't do him justice in the films. Toad was terrific though. Sabretooth too. I'd rank my top three faves as 1. Beast 2. Sabretooth 3. Toad

I have always loved Rogue, but not the movie version of Rogue; I get the whole "I'm a self-conscious teenager" role they put her into in X1, but by X3, I really wanted her to have gotten her super strength and flight, and been that great, sourthern charmer she is in the comics and the 90's cartoon. Unfortunately, that didn't happen--quite the opposite, really. :(
I voted for Charles Xavier--never would have voted for him before XM:FC. Don't get me wrong, I've always liked Xavier, especially with Patrick Stewart playing him in the movies (and therefore making him British with that lovely British accent--if you're from the UK, you have NO IDEA how sexy that sounds to us Americans--yikes), but it's McAvoy's Xavier that really brought him full-circle.
He showed a new side to this otherwise sweet but already-developed character. You feel like any hero's journey Xavier might have had, he already went through in the past (with Magneto and the start of the Xmen). He's the spiritual guide in X1/X2, not the main protagonist; in XM:FC, he's the protagonist and a damn good one.
Magneto was awesome, too, but I'm a Charles fan.

I love the irony of Beast; he looks so animal-like and he's a sweet super-genius. What a great paradox...he's definitely one of my favorites and I loved him in X3 (one of the few things I liked in X3) and especially in XM:FC. There's only one thing I couldn't stand...the XM:FC make-up. I really hope they modify that a little for the sequel--at least fix the lips. That actually distracted me when I was watching the movie.
But a great Xmen character--absolutely.

Wolverine gets too much hype. Magneto has been well played by Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender, but even in the comics and cartoons that guy kicked ass. He even says "Welcome to die!" in the video game, and is probably the only character who could get away with such bad grammar and not look stupid .

I still find it really diffcult to choose. I loved Xavier and Magneto anyway, but FC just added so many more dimensions to their characters, so it would probably be between them, but Wolverine is still great in the first 2 movies and they got Nightcrawler spot on for me.
