Are you familiar with the terms post-production, dubbing, ad-lib and looping?

The voice is easily one of the most bizarre things I've ever heard. I can understand not liking it, but I truly do. Some of the delivery is off but the main idea of his voice is cool and unexpected. Sounds tragically creepy but still with both charisma and command.

What worries me more is that big black ball. I really don't want it to be some kind of earthquake machine.

While it may not be asthma, Hardy definitely had some grunts and strange noises in between the lines for all the takes yesterday. His laugh was more of a "Ahh-ahhhh" than anything resembling a human laugh. I don't know if it was a case of him being exhausted or in pain or something else entirely, but some strange things came out of Hardy's mouth yesterday that wasn't his voice.

I'm starting to think Nolan has a SHH account. He probably made the extras drop their cells and cameras for the death scene. Last I heard, two of our SHH members were going into the stadium today.

Looks like the scenes today doesn't involve Bruce/Batman. Bale apparently flew to LA yesterday night. Probably to take advantage of their Mon/Tue break and maybe he's not needed at the scenes this week either.

Why not? It would be no more out of the ordinary than the machine dealing in water vapor they used in BB

People weren't happy with the microwave emitter. But even that's not as bad as Stark creating the new element science in Iron Man 2. I'll take the microwave emitter...which was based on a military weapon that is very similar.

I think he's saying he doesn't want to see that kind of plot device again. At this point I think Nolan just enjoys using that kind of stuff in his movies. I don't have to like it, but might as well get used to it. :csad:

Real microwave emitters are nothing like the one in Batman Begins.

With Bane's voice I always heard a deep commanding voice, like Vader does, and I think with the accent Tom is going for it would sound better too. Not a fan of it at all at the moment.

I think that if they use it as a "trying to finish the job Talia's father and the man who was like a father to Bane, started" kind of thing that it would be understandable.

But I'd need to hear it in context with his gestures and performance before I completely condemn it.

Everyone has their own opinion on the voice issue, I just have no problem with it at all, but thats just me. I like that even if I had no idea how overpowering a figure he looks to be, if I was to close my eyes and listen to not only his voice, but his delivery as a whole, it reminds me so much of and even gives me the mental imagery of not only Winston Churchhill, but also of many of the worlds greatest leaders/dictators. Some feel that it is just old manish, but I feel it is commanding in its own way, just not the way most were expecting.

Stadium security was tighter today.
Yesterday i was one of the 10,000+ unpaid extras. While we were told in an email that no cameras and that cellphones may be checked, security was lax. By midday, many were filming with their phones. I'm certain this was known by Nolan and Co. Heck, they had Heinz Ward leading the Tumbler parade! I was expecting everyone to be offered a ride.

Today is different. The number of extras is a fraction of yesterdays, however I was able to hear the same instructions being given over the PA system...how to react the explosions, etc.
And security is tighter. I wasn't even allowed to walk along one side of the stadium and the front gate was fenced off so that you couldn't get within 50 yards.

Are they shooting the same scenes again?

I spoke with an observer outside the stadium this morning. He seemed to feel that the scenes being filmed today were smaller group scenes...possibly of fans being shot by Bane's men. He mentioned that they ended up taking fewer that the 200 extras that they were seeking late yesterday afternoon.

I also spoke yesterday with extras that were to have been in a scene with the Gotham mayor at the stadium, but as of late afternoon they hadn't been filmed and the assumption was that it would be today.

They have 700 extras on hand today, and the tighter security was planned before the filming yesterday so it is not an reaction to everyone spilling their guts about what they saw. They're filming the same thing as yesterday, but with more Bane audio. Remember how they cut out on the hostage parts yesterday? They won't be doing that today. That's why there's a security perimeter. You'd be surprised just how far sound carries from Heinz Field. They're also filming tighter shots of the crowd running away only to be confronted by the guys with guns.

The pictures from CMU seemed like they were right on set. It seems like the security was laxed yesterday at the stadium, as everyone took pictures. But today, they are really tight. Either Nolan just caught on (which I find hard to believe with the weeks of pictures, not to mention the secrecy around TDK) or he is allowing us to see certain things.

Ok here is the run down. I got to the set at around 10 am, they had you fill out disclaimer forms before you could go in. Once in you were free to just find a seat but once there you had to stay there until directed to move. where I was at there was about 24 of us there. While waiting for things to start one of the producers came over and asked us to come with him. We were taken to a room with a green screen and filmed for the national anthem sceen and for the touchdown sceen. We did about 10 takes on that. and went down to a new section close to the field for more close up work for the rest of the day. I was In the biggest sceen in the movie when Bane blows up the field and kills both team all but Ward. Bane comes out kills Hines and makes his speach. Over all the best time I have ever had. I am so sore from having to throw myself to the ground to escape the explosions and from running from the merchs. But over all It was a blast. I can't wait to see what was kept of my groups sceens and what was cut out. We were always wehere the camera was though.

Or perhaps more appropriately, here's a page from the website of the US Airforce:

http://csat.au.af.mil/2025/concepts/800062.HTM
Technology Abstract Title: Earthquake Weapon

Description: Ultrasonic or acoustic weapon to destroy runways, buildings, bridges. Weapon will generate a very strong acoustic wave that causes structures to resonate, and thereby destroy them. This has the advantage of being a destructive force that is not designed to kill people.

Advantages: Destructive to structures and warmaking potential, but does not directly threaten people.

Challenges: How to generate a strong enough acoustic field.

Countermeasures: Acoustic wave cancellation methods (generate a wave out of phase with the weapon) standard earthquake protection methods, such as flexible structures, truss designs, reinforced materials.

Possible Applications: Destruction of structures Attacking hardened, hidden structures. Airfield interdiction (destroy runways) Civilian application: demolition.

And whoever the someone is, they're probably keeping track of big things said on here, and reporting it to Nolan, or Thomas.

Nolan knew, and was angry, that the Pittsburgh pictures got leaked. I know someone who actually mentioned Nolan being outrageously pissed about it. Nolan was witnessed (and this is 100% NOT a joke from me) saying, "I don't understand how this stuff is getting online!!" Well he should be angry. This stuff leaks because people feel like they have the god-given right to take pictures of whatever they please. There is almost zero respect for anything anymore. I myself am not against spoilers per se. But is is a shame that regardless of the size and scope af any project...people feel that they have the right to carry cell phones around and take and upload pictures. Respect for film makers and artist privacy in and during the creation process is an almost non-existent thing anymore. If i was wally or nolan i would be unhappy with legions of so called fans snapping photos of everything and posting things online.

You'r eright actually.

Although we're sucking up everything we get, it's still a shame.

I mean, musicians are angry too if stuff is leaked. Especially while it is in production.

If they are shooting in public spaces they should expect that. Particularly in this day and age. If an artist takes bis creative project into an area where it can be seen by passers by he shouldn't be pissed off when people snap pics of it midway through.

I was at the heinz stadium shoot yesterday, and i will say i was shocked at the downright "Pissing and Moaning" and disrespect of people all day. If it wasn't someone whining and crying about the heat and the fact that they had to wear a coat...then they were pissing about something else. Literally man....for every 100 people i walked by 90% of them complained all day long.

I sat in that heat fully clothed all day long and i would do it again in a heartbeat. I was proud to be there and support film making and it's just a shame to see people involved....whatever the size of your involvement...not taking the job seriously and being ungrateful.

I also was saddened to see so many people goofing around with cell phones all day. Facebook texting and twitter are more important to people than focusing on what your doing for 1 day. I heard this guys behind me complaining all day because he had to walk so far to find a smoking section??? You're telling me you can't leave the smokes home for 1 day? The day and age...or the technology at hand is irrelevant. "People" choose to snap that picture with their cell phone. "People" choose to immediately upload these photos. Just because the technology is readily available has nothing to do with the lack of respect.

Banes voice sounds horrible, the whole casting of this movie in my opinion is a joke. I will reserve some feelings until the film comes out as I may end up liking the casting. I just feel Nolan is loyal to a fault, what is this Inception Rises? He cast Bane totally wrong, too short and a ****** voice (yes they can cgi him or camera angle, and yes they may dub his voice in post production) but for now I am not a fan of his casting.

Didn't Rag's ninja tell him that they were using set pictures as viral marketing this time around? Seems way cheaper and more effective than the expensive viral games that they did for us last time around. That stuff was cool, but how effective was it in reaching a wide audience? Set pictures will get the job done easier. And the fact that they aren't having to shell out any money for this publicity makes it a win-win for them.

Mr. Wooden Alligator

The thing about this earthquake machine is that there was a link to the Army website detailing such a device, so it has some real-world precedence. This makes it easier for me to accept.

Hey, Inception had a machine that let you enter another person's dreams...that seemed much more fantastical than this earthquake machine, and look at how well received that movie was.

All over the place. They moved our group several times. To be honest i was surprised by how kind the staff there was. They were extremely talkative and courteous. As for the complainers...a lot of it was during the last few takes of the national anthem. I can't count the times people said..."What this scene AGAIN?" or the rehearsals leading up to the explosion.....after we did about 8-10 rehearsals i heard tons of people whining about stuff. You know..."Blow S*** up already man" and so and and so forth.

People in my sections were awesome for the most part, but there were several douchebags in attendance. I heard some indignant screams for t-shirts and explosions. Ugh. My bro ended up with a Gotham rogues shirt to take home, without screaming or yelling or begging. Respect goes a long way.

I have to say this: I don't understand the whole demise-liberation debate. He said liberation every time. He told us (Gotham) to take control of ourselves and then showed us the instrument of our liberation. Not one single time did he say demise. Why would it be the instrument of our demise? I would be a little on edge if I thought I heard demise. Had a whole board tell me it was liberation. (Which is not a debate) and then I turned the volume up. Heard liberation. Said I did and still people continued to correct my error. As if they didn't read any of the previous posts. So. It seems like very minor slights can get people an infraction but other things go unnoticed at times. The mods do a good job, but I think that it is a little unreasonable to given people infractions who are clearly arguing with people who are in the wrong and making sweeping, unfounded generalizations about the movie.

I laugh at people who stupidly assume that because of the "colourful" reactions at a tiny bit of unpolished audio. Suddenly Nolan is on full alert mode, and now today's secure filming at the stadium is a result of that. Never mind that today was planned well in advance.

Nolan doesn't care about fan's initial reaction to whatever half baked set photos/videos that leak online. He has his job, he knows how to do it better than pretty much anyone else. The absolute arrogance of some fan's here thinking that their word, or their opinion is enough to actually direct Nolan's actions. I'm glad Nolan doesn't care what fans think and instead tries to make the best FILM possible (not a fan pandering mess), we all know what happens if the fanboys get what they want...and it doesnt turn out pretty.

Including Venom didn't force Raimi to write a bad script with laughably bad dance sequences and acting.

I'll agree with the dancing and dialogue. However, the spidey movies haven't aged well. I tried watching one the other day and even part 1 is just sorta ok now. They just don't pack the same punch as they did before Nolan got his hands on BB.

I think people are reacting to the audio itself, not the descriptions of it.

But that's all people who werent there can judge, the audio. I wasn't a big fan of Heath-Jokers voice but thats not the entire performance.

The way I interpreted the voice (and physical acting) was, this guy has been through a helllll of a lot, and has no patience for any BS anymore. So he might sound wheezy and winded, but he'll snap your neck or slit your throat in a second.

I was refering to Spidey 3. Correct me on this if I'm wrong, but didn't the studio pretty much force Venom onto Raimi? Because everyone was clamouring for him (guilty as charged) Clearly, his heart was not in it, because his great looking sandman story was all mucked up.

And yeah yeah before you use it, the "Flint Marko is the guy who shot ben" story really jumped the proverbial shark as well, but everything else seemed pretty strong. (the birth of sandman scene is one of the most beautiful things in that entire trilogy)

TDK is that rarity of a film that managed to please both film lovers and fanboys, but my point is Nolan is clearly someone who takes liberties in order to make a great film. I seem to recall all the permawhite arguments and the "joker looks like the crow, thats not the real joker" comments.

My point being, I'm just glad the fanboys don't run the ship. I couldn't give a **** if Bane was spanish.

Exactly. Producers listend to fans and... well... NOT the the man they had hired...

And regarding that That fact didnt force the script in any way? Well, I would argue it kinda did. You got a vision first, and then get that changed, and its not so easey to try your best making it work if you dont believe in it.

Agreed! I thought the dance scene was odd...and some of the dialogue oddball. But, when producers are constantly changing the coarse of the ship how can you expect a writer/directer to deliver the goods. To be honest Sam looked and sounded tired and uninterested with part 3. I mean, when a man clearly says he dislikes a character and that character is put in the final product....don't you think that will have strong impact on the storytelling?

Yeah, my reaction to hearing the audio was that he sounded like he was in pain and it makes me curious to find out why he's in pain. From everything we've seen of the production so far, the character's actions are certainly not of some "fragile old man." He's launching terrorist attacks on football stadiums, prison breaks, riots. Seems like a badass to me, regardless of the voice. But I am curious to find out why he's struggling to speak.

It's not that they weren't good to begin with, it's just a combination of how high the bar has risen and the "quirky" campy moments scattered throughout the film, that were seen as charming back then but now in a post TDK enviroment where people take their adaptations seriously. They just seem really cheesy.

Exactly. When an artist raises the bar it can erode quality from previous work. Not to say that sam's first two films are poor...it's just when Nolan created BB that bar went pretty high and Sam's films didn't raise with the bar. Happens a lot but you hate to see it happen to films that once blew you away.

But see, X2 was already sitting right there without the camp of SM2 (or the cliched damsel in distress rehash of the first movie). But people ignored it because it's Spider-Man and they wanted to believe it was the "ZOMG best thing ever." X2 is underrated in that sense. I love X2, right now it's probably my favourite Marvel film, but obviously at the time it was all about Spidey, spidey-mania if you will. I felt (and i still do) that spider-man 2 was a much deeper and layered film than X2. It's camp really takes away from it, and the fact that it should legally be called Peter Parker the movie, but anyway. I think the main reason why I don't look too kindly on the raimi film's is the failure of the third. Just the proverbial fly in the great tasting soup.

Which is why i think it is so essential for TDKR to be on the level of TDK, although I'd think it would take a disaster of Shumacher sized proportions to make me dislike TDK. :woot:

As great as Si Ian is, I wish we hadn't gotten a Magneto so darn old. He comes off positively ancient next to Professor X and they are supposed ti be of the same age. I know they wanted the whole concentration camp survivor thing, but that bothers me. As do the uninspired uniforms. The best thing about the X-Men films is the thing people now complain a out, they focus on Wolverine. They are his movies. The rest is "meh." I would also say that Marvels movies(Avengers-verse) have at approximately the same camp as the first two Sliest flicks.which I think are still great films. Can't speak for 3, but I still feel certain things were handled really well there. Raining definitely liked the black suit and the issues it brought with it, and for his Peter Parker the guy is kind of corny so you get the strut and all that. He just obviously didn't want to use Venom and he was tacked on.

Back to Batman?

What we have gotten in the last two weekends has been absolutely amazing to me!

For months since Hardy was cast I had been worried that Bane was not going to be done in the way I felt he deserved to be shown on screen: A man whose brutality and intelligence is just as amazingly overwhelming as his size and strength.

However, as each day goes on I have become increasingly sure that there was nothing to worry about. The look? The actions? The voice? It all points to the fact that finally my all time favorite batman villian was going to get some justice and was going to be able to shed that horrible green skin and that unfortunate Luchador Mask......thank goodness.

Even for your favorite of something there can be an aspect your not fully crazy about. Also I should have been clearer, he is my favorite that has not been given justice on the big screen. My all time favorite was given justice during the Dark Knight. Joker has always been my fav truthfully, but even when it comes to him, I could have done without Ceasar Romero and his whole take on the character.

It seems like very minor slights can get people an infraction but other things go unnoticed at times. The mods do a good job, but I think that it is a little unreasonable to given people infractions who are clearly arguing with people who are in the wrong and making sweeping, unfounded generalizations about the movie.
Minor slights give way to infractions because they, all too frequently, turn into major ****storms, which is even more of a hassle. Things are going to get missed because regardless of how many mods there are, we don't sense disturbances in the Force, glitches in the Matrix or whatever would equate to us being privy to every instance across the forum that should be corrected. Even when particular threads are being kept an eye on, it's not as if every single post is being cataloged for review. If it's not reported, it's addressed when (or if) it's seen. In the interim there, it doesn't grant someone license to flame another because they feel aggrieved by a bombastic statement or even clearly inappropriate behavior.

To be frank, stupid opinions and dimwitted interpretations are going to be tossed about. It's just going to happen, but there's not going to be a free pass in countering them. Annoying as they may be, those things aren't necessarily prohibited. On top of that, most times it's a wholly subjective matter. How much of this stuff can we actually point to as being "right" when we're still largely in the dark about the final product? I mean I'm one of those actually charged with trying to keep a lid on this madhouse and I'm not allowed to cite people as idiots, dullards and nimrods where I see fit ...and Zeus knows I want to.

No one expects the forum to be a exercise in hand-holding, with everyone signing Kumbaya around the fire. However, we do expect people to not potentially escalate the matter with insults or pointed condescension because they feel entitled to. Respond civilly, report it or ignore it. This place needs to be more Blackgate and less Arkham.

I'm almost certain of it.

If it's not Nolan, then it's certainly Pfister, or Thomas, or someone close to the production.

And whoever the someone is, they're probably keeping track of big things said on here, and reporting it to Nolan, or Thomas.

Nolan knew, and was angry, that the Pittsburgh pictures got leaked. I know someone who actually mentioned Nolan being outrageously pissed about it. Nolan was witnessed (and this is 100% NOT a joke from me) saying, "I don't understand how this stuff is getting online!!" They apparently thought that the Carnegie Mellon set was a fair distance away, and closed enough to at least not have any huge spoilers leaked.

So, trust me, Nolan is aware of us. I guarantee this.

He DID NOT want us to know about Talia.

Definitely. I'm sure he has hired a team to monitor the net for him and the production crew.

There was nothing he could for the stadium scene but I'm certain he didn't want Miranda/Talia to be exposed this early in production.

Yes. That doesn't change the fact that he sounds like a ridiculous 90 year old English man.

The mask isn't the blame for that. Hardy is intentionally putting on that voice.

Nolan as well as the remaining production team should be thankful that nothing else has leaked so far. I imagine Nolan would be apoplectic if, God forbid, the genuine shooting script leaked online. But the thing is, they should've been aware of professional paparazzi using long-distance lens when they were shooting the CMU scenes -- let alone clear set pics of Marion in costume.

There's just some things you can't control, especially if you're shooting outdoor scenes in a blocked-off public area. But knowing one plot element isn't going to damage my enjoyment of the finished film.
