I have something for our WWSD (What would Spidey do?)
Do you remember the story, where Peter slept outside in the street and somebodyīs stolen his costume?
Yesterday iīve finished work... walked outside to my bicycle... and it was stolen... fine... WWSD?
Spidey would have been swining around and look for the bike... what can i do?
Nothing... too bad... but there is nothing that i can do about it. Just always look on the streets... may be, i will see it somewhere...

Martin that SUUUUUCKS about your bike!
Friggin theives everywhere nowadays. Friday morning the store across the street where I work had a truck drive thru the front and ripped out the ATM (cash) machine and hauled A$$ with it.
Hang in there! What goes around comes around!

I have an idea. If I can find someone who makes the WWJD bracelets I can get some WWSD ones made. I'll have to have a look around.
Blue with red letters!

Ok guys... here are the first pics from my old Digi Cam... the better pics will follow this week.

Some words to the shooting:
It was a sunny day with only less clouds and we were looking for a good location. My town isnīt like NY or somewhere else. So we donīt have a real skyline or something for good pics.
So weīve decided to visit our castle ruine outside the city.
But we had forgotten, that itīs a very liked destination of excursion. So there were very many people. I was a little bit shy at first.
We found a quiet corner and began with the shooting. After a while the big monument wasnīt the attraction any longer... in one hour more pics of me were shot, than the whole day from the ruine.
Faszinating that nobody ask me, who i am. It would have been so nice to say "Who am i? Do you really wanna know?..." but everybody knows me. Even two old ladys, about 70 years old, said behind me "Look... this is spiderman"
Only JJJ was missing...
Ok... enough talking... here are the first pics.
Remember... better pics will follow this week.

And of course it didn't work without hostage: (The daughter of my fotograph)

After all we all had very much fun...

Martin

hey all costume makers out there...here's a tip for you...if you have been wondering about a good way to put the fishnet pattern on your movie costume here's an idea:

use permanent colored markers on the back side of the material...I tried a couple of experiments, first I thought to use a black...

...but that did'nt look right, then I thought to try a dark red...duh!...it worked awsome!!

...this could also be done on the blue material too, just use a dark blue marker and...Vola! instant webbing on your material...well not instant, it would take some amount of time to sit and draw all those lines in...but it would look way cool in the end...and hey! the pattern stretches to the contours of your body too, just like in the film! look here...

...just some pointers, has anybody tried any other ways??

imurme uc?

I'll go with it) using NOT paint but (thickened) dye...red dye on the red material and blue dye on the blue...dont know for sure if it would look better dyed on the front or back of material, needs some testing?
there might be other ways possible, such as using an airbrush with DYE in it and a stencil octagon pattern...
...but ya know, I think it may not be so bad working on the pattern by hand and marker for a couple hours every day for a week or so (of course I do have alot of time on my hands right now) that way you can watch the flow of the pattern better and adjust octagon size as you go to get the muscle texture simular to movie costume...but for a quicky (or mass produced product) you could use the silk screen method...let me know what you think...any other ideas?

imurme uc?

IM...

The silk screened idea is probably your safest and less time consuming. That's how pattern on the movie suit was produced. Large screens are pretty pricey but if you can set it up on your own.. well worth it... sounds like you have the muscle pattern worked out.

"Stud-tights" you have a serious problem. You do not seem to realize that kids read this post, and you are putting your own "PERSONAL" sexual proclivities on an age old character that never was or will be that choice decision. This forum is about Spider-man costumes and nothing else. Can we all stay on that subject while in this forum so that we can stand on equal ground? "Stud-tights" I don't want to insult you, but when you post PERSONAL views of a sexual nature you give people the ammunition to unload there PERSONAL views, which is not good in this particular post. So please keep your PERSONAL private views to your self. or at least out of this post. Do not think I don't want you in the post, I believe the more the merryer,Im not trying just to single you out, it is for everybody. Hey all!
Im back.how is everyone?

I should have my lenses by next week.I had to sculpt em,mold em,cast them, clean up the master.Send the master to a plastic company so they could reproduce several pairs for me in Poly-Carbonate plastic. These have to be forward to another co so they can have a hard coat done(a resin dip)..then I check em ,make any adjustments and send them to be polarized, some with mirror, some with gun-metal smoke..and thats just the lenses!!!!!!!!!!!!the cost for this little procedure?...over 500 bucks!!!!Just for the lenses, not including time.Still it keeps me out of the pub.

Hey Blaze ,how does your costume you bought from Costume maker look?Any pics?

Hey Wams, well done in your mild-mannered approached to telling that guy to keep his sexual comments to hiself.

Fanged Hunter ,nice to hear from you again.

Larthelad ,you still checking in?Havent heard from you in a while?

Anyhows

Keep thy webs untangled.
Mick

hey mick I'm still here, not sure id im talent enough to make a costume. I am getting my health back on the right track though. And will try something with hiding some money away for getting any type of spidey costume. Thanks for thinking about me though, mick. I was at 327 pounds but Im now at 321 pounds and hope it continues down . my blood pressure, sugar levels and cholestrol levels is darn near normal. Spider EMC does know what he's talking about with the health issue. I will talk to him later about that. So this is still a tough health lifestyle journey for me but I still think its worth taking. I still hope to making Spidey a part of my life. Hope everyone else is well, and wish people send me some email or something, just so if anyone needs to talk I'm here. I'm betting that no one would probably read this, but its worth a shot:

I was thinking of making my own Spider-Man 2099.And,was thinking how to do the cape and the eyes.I could probably make the eyes would be a lense, about the same color as the rest of the costume or black, like the guy on ebay.

And,the cape could probably come from a real glider.Who knows,it might work. So,what do y'all think?

Now,I know I may not get a response as quickly as I'm hoping, but this could work.I'll just needs some help. And when the time comes,I'll begin making the costume.Oh,by the way, yall got some coo costumes.

[ 04-03-2002, 03:09 PM: Message edited by: WebShooter21 ]

RIGHT GUYS, ALL YOU VERY COSTUME MAKERS, I NEED SOME HELP, I HAVE FINALLY GOT THE LYCRA MATERIAL NEEDED TO MAKE MY VERY NEEDED SPIDERMAN COSTUME NEEDED FOR THE MOVIE I M MAKING, now i dont know how to do the eyes or the webbing, people have said all sorts about the webbing but which is the best looking one, i heard Liquid latex was good but i dont know where to get it from, and also is there some where i can get a little tint for my eyes other wise if not ill end up having to pay Ģ30 about $42 for the tint , which will just go to waste...
please help

Rabi

Costume Maker
04-05-2002, 04:09 PM
personally, instead of liquid latex I would get some black neoprene rubber and cut out the web pattern for each fabric piece. the latex is too unpredictable. that way if you make a mistake you have only lost a small piece of neoprene instead of a piece of your costume (or the whole thing if you do the webs last)
Joseph

Germanspider
04-06-2002, 07:53 AM
Yup... Joseph is right:
I will never use liquid latex again.
One mistake and you could ruin the complete costume.
Iīm thinking about better ways to do the webbing.
The idea of neopren or something else sounds good. But then you need a glue, that is strong enough to stick the neopren to the lycra and flexible enough.
And... it will be a pain to do the webbing... but every way for the webbing is a pain.

Martin
- still not online from home -

hey everyone has anyone thought of differnet designs for already exsistant spidey costumes. like changing color or changing design. It just be cool to see someone goof around with the spidey costumes and be original. I hope SpiderEMC was talking about me somewhat with his recent message. I do now have a reward money stash already set up and I will add what money I can to it. I'm using it to reward myself with my weight loss with non-food rewards. I also hope to use it for the ultimate reward, wonder what that might be . I hate to say that the photos that were recently posted, I can't see on the board. Hope someone can send me the photos to see. nice latex. how would you recommend attaching it to a spandex suit?

jdcostumes
04-11-2002, 07:29 PM
actually there are a few things you can use. i have don experiments but i'm waiting to finish my boot webs to assemble one, the first way is to use more latex as a glue it will seep in and adhere to the fabric while also building a bont to the exsisting latex, or you can use a rubber cement type glue (i have used both process in the past and both work well. hope this helps

joe

jdcostumes
04-11-2002, 07:31 PM
ps..i contridict myself by saying experiment while also saying ive done these process in the past because ive never attached things to spandex. but i have used other materials for batman costumes..

joe

yetter,

actually its cast from a plaster mold, i sent imurme some pics of the mold and original sculpt that he may post im not sure. but depending on how many i plan on casting i may machine a mold out of steel just to close of the imperfections, thats alot of latex to touchup. but for now yes it is cast from a plaster mold.

joe

mick, thanks for the welcome in, ive seen your work and all i can say is fantastic. looks like you stepped off of a comic page!!

yetter, rolling out the clay for this project was a serious pain in th a$$ i cant beleive i was silly enough to do it. and ya i went off of a pattern from one of my costumes so it would match up right, then i drew out the web pattern on that and there ya have it. but ya it was a pain and it took forever.

I can imagine.... I heard that the individuals that glued the webbing to the movie suit had a considerable time getting the curve in the horizantal webs when its was stretched.... that can't be easy....Do you have the suit done yet?

yetter, no i dont have one finished yet, im finishing my boot webbing, then ill assemble one. hopefully within a week or so. and yes the glueing will be a pain, even if it goes smoothly thats a whole lotta lines to glue, and in some pics you can see where the arc of the horizontal web actually broke loose. (you can see the glue line above it) so on that note im trying out different methods of attachment to avoid that, not everything movie makers use is the best, seeing as they constantly have people to swoop in and fix any problems.

jdcostumes needs to make one major change to that mask sculpt. Those red lines that look like some sort of clay or something? Use TWIZZLERS! IMAGINE, a mask you can wear, and nibble on too!

Just kidding. Looking forward to seeing the finished product. Serious now....

By the way, anyone seen that no good Mick around lately? I know he was going to be gone for a while, but I wondered if that two bit hack photographer was back yet. All my GOOD photojournalists are on other assignments and I need someone to cover the Spider-Man Movie game's release. I figured Mick's got a thing for taking Spidey pics, why not a game of Spidey pic?

Wait, did I say serious earlier?

Okay, now, since I've been gone a while, someone redirect me....where are the chief folks for comissioning a suit from? Specifically a mask, but a suit also. I KNOW I can't afford one, but I'm looking to the future.

And did Mick ever say anything more about his considering commissioning to do a few costumes of his style? I know he batted the idea around for doing it for a few of the "old timers" of this thread, but I never heard much more. Probably because my posts and his tended to get so far away from each other and he was rebelling against what he considered "lousy pay" for his "quality photos."

If that blasted Mick doesn't get back soon, I'm going to have to send JoJo the monkey on assignment!

Take care all, I'll be web slinging on PS2 tomorrow.

welcome mrj. (though i am a newbie to so i dont know if i count to say that). anyway if anyone else is working on molding to do their webbing i have one thing that touches on what mrj said about adding pigment before you cast. even though pigment isnt that expensive (im cheap) you can also just add the pigment to the latex you use after you touch up your peices ie. in an air brusher. then you dont have to use so much. and mrj awsome project i personally cant wait to see it. good luck with it, sounds like a fun project. will you be doing just a head peice, or are you going to be making a costume for it as well? and is it going to be a show peice or wearable?

jd

hi guys, nice welcome, i only do this stuff for a hobby, but ive been playing with foam latex, and make up fx since i was 14 im 34 now, and after making monsters and all the usual things , i had been looking for a good project to get my teeth into, this design of the goblin blew me away, everything ive ever thought he should looklike, i think i can do this justice with more detailing/skin texture, ive already designed the mechanisms for the movements, and have decided to include upper and lower eyelid movement as well
it is definatly going to be wearable and hopefully will be the start of a full updated classic goblin suit, call me old fashioned but i love the scalesuit, the mask will probably have to be operated by two people with transmitters, im currently working on the glowing green eye design, if anyone needs any advise on sculpting, molding casting , suppliers etc ya only need to ask, as soon as any photos are ready i will attempt to post em.. cheers for the encouragment
all my freinds think im barking for spending money on this but hey what do they know. hahaha

i know one thin about that auction. i think it was webslinger who sent it to me, he thought it was mine. when i read the desription i was amazed to find that it wasnt even an aution for a suit. ther were a few pics mostly of a 70"s reproduction and that pic of the sculpt. the desription read something like....this is not an auction for a costume ...no wait ...it said so you like to 70 suit how about a movie one, well i know where to get them, this is not an auction for a costume but i know where to get them. at the end of the auction i will tell the high bidders (dutch auction) who to contact. can you beleive that? and auction for nothing but info, sounds fishie to me. and if thats your sculpt pic it really blow, sorry to hear that ham, ive had some of my peices bought and remolded too. i hate vampires. did you sell any of the finished peice or did they just gank your pic? either way it sucks, ill try a link to the auction but im not sure it itll work, if it dosnt email me ham and ill link it in the reply. again sorry man that sucks!!! well heres the link...know what forget it just check ebay under spider(-)man costumes with bonus.

jd

i just found a way to make eyes just like the movie. white and mirrored tinted, and you can still see easily out them and no one can see in. what i did was take the thick mirror tint i already use on my costume, you can check it out on the spiderman fansite (www.spiderman.it-pc.de/) under my name, and i took some white stretch mesh fabric and thin clear tint. i put the white mesh on the thick mirror tint, and then the clear tint over the mesh, and wala! the eyes are white, mirrored, and you can see easily out of em. they look just like the eyes in all the close up shots of spidey. the total price i paid was maybe 20$. oh and remeber guys, this forum is not for selling or buying items, do that in your personal emails.

i ve just discoverd THE EASIEST way to do the WEBBING, i was in this art shop and i noticed thin BUT 3D looking strips of foam, like the stuff under your mouse pad but thinner, anyway i bought a couple of sheets only to cut the spider embling out of it, when i noticed it would be very practical to make the weebing this way, so i cut it in to thin strips and stuck it to my costume... Easy after it was all dry, i decided to add a bit more coulour to it since the foam was very black and it just reminded me of the the classic costume, so i painted very carefully over it a silver metallic paint, i waited for that to dry, now on to my next step that would complete the movie look i was aiming for. with a brush i went over all the webbing in PVA glue, waited 24hrs, all was dry and i had the movie look i wanted, silvery/black that shines when it hits bright light.

hope this helps any one looking for and easier way

The webs on the Movie suit are Black, not silver, the appear silver when light hits them in a certain way, at least thats what I have seen in the photos and clips. Even my screen printed webs look silver in some pictures
Joseph
