That looks great man, you wear it well. I love those pics in natural sunlight. Brings out the best. Thanks for the comments guys. These lenses have the wrong color frames and they arnt accurate, they have the wrong screen, and its just plastic ontop. Thats why they're temps. The final ones will look alot like the ones from the DVD and they will have a real lense, not just plastic.

HEY...orlando..i was wondering if the suit felt on..and why it looks a lil loose arround the neck arms..:S jw..and some of the wrinkling arround the feet..and how r they boots and there support?

The suit is awesome Nayef, also Bryan has more room for muscle growth.:spidey:
You two work very well together.

i have some very easy explanations for you my friend
but to answer your first question... it feels GREAT. Light, breathable, stretchy (of course) and it doesn't limit movement.
As far as the neck, that issue will be resolved once we get that face shell into the mask (as the suit was designed for)
the reason that the arms are loose is because tobey had bigger arms than me as WELL as a muscle suit underneath that layer of cloth. This suit is one in the same as the movie suit so it's designed to house both. If my arms get big enough to fill it out that means i'll be as big as tobey was including muscle suit underneath. What luck is on my side... is that i am the same height as tobey.
The soles are light and flexible, feel good on the feet, provide an excellent shape for the 'boot', and have traction *of course*
as far as the wrinkling on the lower leg goes, again... altercation of not being as big as the 'sub' suit (muscle suit)
If work my thighs and calves bigger that should solve all issues.
Concerning all this... the thing to remember is that this IS a [i]replica suit.
thus it will be as big in all the areas as the movie suit. It's one in the same. If you aren't tobey's build, or have a muscle suit, it'll be off (as that is what the suit was made for) UNLESS of course you alter it yourselves to fit.

looks good forrest, hows visibility?
Forrest S
01-04-2006, 11:14 PM
the visibility is suberb, the only thing, and this is a problem for all lenses, is fogging, other than that, it just brightens things up, but everythings stays visible and clear. when mesh is that close to your eyes, you see right through it. and the plastic is just clear plastic, the cloror comes form the aluminum mesh.

Hey all, fantastic work,
I was wondering if there is anybody out there who can make a classic appearance spidey costume (nicholas hammond style, the ones that were around in 1977), I saw one for sale on Ebay a few moths ago and that went for 600 bucks. I missed that one and also lost the info on who the guy was who was selling it. If anyone knows who he is could they send me an email or if anyone knows anyone who can replicate this type of costume I would very much appreciate any info.

SpiderAdam, i just looked and i must have gotten rid of the label that goes over the handle of the splatter guard, but if you live anywhere near a K-mart, they should carry the right one. DONT get the Martha stewart one, its too silver, plus its alot more expensive. get the generic brand from K-mart, it should be made from aluminum mesh, and be shaped like big circle with a handle, and the color is a greyish-white. from the kictchen utensils isle. Thanks for all the compliments guys.

I have just finished the script for my film Spider-Man (The Final Act). I am soo to be starting storyboards soon. The story involves of Dare Devil, Mysterio, King Pin, Dock Ocks Tentacles, And a pumpkin bomb. I know this all sounds random. Spiderman 5 is making my spidey suit, and superpower is making my stunt suit. If any1 has any info on hwo to make..or geta dare devil suit, and baton , pumpkin bombs, replica ock arms..movie..or comic...? If you have any info and are able to help please IM me..or emaill me at schwenk_zygote_pills@hotmail.com thanx guys & girls:)

Hi guys. While I've been reading these boards for months, this is my first time posting. I'm in the process of (trying) to make my first Spidey suit and the biggest snag I've run into is the eyeframes. I'm not interested in buying any because 1) the only thing I see available are movie style (which I'm not aiming for) and 2) I'd REALLY like to do everything myself (point of pride). Currently I'm using 6mm PVC to carve and sand the frames to shape, then priming and wet sanding smooth. The rigid mold materials I've tried at this point which include UltraCal 30 and Super Sculpey (boiled to hardness) seem to want to chip around the edges when I try and release the positive. I'm making a 1 piece mold and using a release agent. The Flexible mold materials I've tried at this point which include mask quality latex and alginate seem to want to shrink and curl. I would like to have the frames flexible, so my intent was to use several built up layers of latex to fill in the molds (maybe that's not the best idea). There's obviously a ton of talent and thousands, if not tens of thousands, of hours of work represented on this board, so I'm hoping someone can help me out. Specifically, my questions are:
What have you found to be the best molding material, and why? (I will also be using this material to mold my spider(s))
What have you found to be the best casting material, and why? (I'm hoping for something flexible, but who knows)
For those of you using urethane resin(?) frames: Are they flexible at all? If not, did you cast them flat and then heat bend them or did you cast them curved?
Do frames typically have a recess in the back to set the lens? How are you typically attaching the lens to the backside of the frame?
Basically, any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot and keep up the good work!

Molding and Casting is something I still have to learn... but there should be a few guys on the boards that can answer your question.

Welcome Brado,
Well here is how I do it.
For sculpting I use an oil based clay. This will peel and clean out of the mold easily.
For molding, it depends on what your going to cast. For latex castings you can use ultra cal like you're doing.
For casting I would go with slip cast latex (mask latex). It is much easier to glue than urethane and the price isn't to shabby.
Here is a set of frames I pulled from my mold earlier this week. They still need fine trim work and paint. But frames like these can be done using the materials I listed.
Sorry for the quality it was taken using my camera phone.

superpower,
Thanks for the quick response. Is it a safe assumption that you're leaving the clay in it's soft, uncured state when you create the mold? Are you placing it on a piece of glass or equivalent and pouring your UltraCal into a box around it? And finally, how are you building up thickness on your latex (air dry, hair dryer, poured all at once with some kind of drying agent, etc.)? Thanks again!

Yes the clay is soft while molding. With an oil clay they never harden so you can use them for many many sculpts.
Yes again. I usually have my peice on a sheet of plexi glass then build a wall using clay.
For building up the peice. I pour a layer in, let it dry for about six hours, pour again, dry six hours and repeat until the desired demension is achived.
Here's the spider that I pulled for those eyes aswell.

Brado,
If I were to cast those frames, I would make a mold out of silicone. (a firm shore hardness) And cast them in flexible urethane rubber that has been pre-tinted black. You can get everything you need from www.smoothon.com They have product descriptions on tutorials on molding and casting.

hey guys im young and i decided to make a alien sympotite suit but have no where to get all the stuff and make it i only know how to sew it on anyone have venom frames and the big white spider it would be nice to get some help on this little project
To ngoc-My idea:
Draw the design of the big white spider on a big peace of drawing paper (minimum weight: 120 gram). After you finished the spider, cut it out and paste it on a piece of sail (if that's the right word...). After that, press is in clay. Then remove the spider a pour some liquid rubber into the clay mold (after the clay is dried of course). When the rubber is dry you can paint your spider white and when the paint is dry--You have a fresh raised venom spider for the back of your venom suit.
If you don't want it "that" raised, simply don't press the spider that deep into the clay.
If you don't want it raised at all then you can just cut the spider out of a piece of white stetchy fabric.
**Remember to only paste the raised spider on when the fabric of the suit is streched. Ask somebody to put the suit on... or you could buy a mannequin and put the suit on that. Whatever you do, do not paste the rubber spider on the suit if the fabric isn't streched**
http://www.spidertim.com/bsuit.html ok thank for the info on how to make the spider ame, but like spiders tim black suit im not making like venom kinda complicated ill be adding a muscle detail and try to find someone who sells the frames and material if anyone could help me with some sites be appreciated.:spidey: :)

I need some advice. I have bought the pattern on disk. I have an appointment to meet with someone in my area who does dye sublimation. I need to supply my own spandex material for the sublimation process. Is there a certain blend I should look for that works best in the dye process? Should the material be matt or shiney? I know there are many online sources that sell lycra or spandex. Does anyone have a recomendation based on their own purchase experiance?
Thanks,
-Adam
Orlando Spider
01-24-2006, 10:56 AM
I believe the one my suit is made with is a nylon/lycra blend. go for matte
I'll find out... when's your appointment?
SpiderAdam
01-24-2006, 11:26 AM
My appointment is Thursday. This is just an innitial meeting so the printer can see the pattern and give me a quote. I won't have my material by then but I want to tell them what blend I want to use and make sure there are no problems. I hope to order the material at the end of this week or the beginning of next week.
Thanks,
-Adam
Orlando Spider
01-24-2006, 12:24 PM
yeah, be careful. Which pattern did you get? there's a really good chance you'll have to modify it a bit to make it ready to print depending on who's you got.
You'll also (if it goes through), want to do several SMALL test prints of the pattern to make sure the colors come out the way you want them...adjusting the color levels on the machine as you go to achieve what you want.
also keep in mind that different kinds of fabric accept the colors differently. Red on lycra (if the same colors are used) could come out purplish on milliskin.
Adjust as needed :) I'll find out tonight what fabric mine was made with.

Look at the head piece. If it has brick pattern on it, enough, it's probably ok and you can let it print. Else you'll have to modify it with photoshop first.
The spandex should stand 200 degree celsius, so very important is that there is no nylon in it. Ask the seller of the fabric if it can stand the temperature. Best to find a printer that has its own fabric.
I'm having a lot of problems with my own suit, nothing I can't help though, but my post will be a bit delayed. Few more weeks!

I got my pattern from orisisflower off of ebay. The colors look good in photoshop and there is a brick pattern on the mask but not as dark or other parts of the suit which as far as I can tell is similar to screen shots of the movie suit. If I need to do some photoshop work on it. Its not a problem. I was going to take different sections of the suit and print tests to make sure I like he colors.
Initially I was planning on ordering white matt miliskin 4 way stretch spandex from stretchouse.com, but it looks like it is mostly nylon (80% nylon, 20% spandex). I am having toruble finding spandex material that does not have nylon in it.
Thanks for the advise everyone.

Thanks that is good information. I've heard that cotton blended lycra doesn't hold its shape as well as regular spandex. Does anyone know if this is true? Then again If you don't wash the suit and only dry clean it, I wouldn't think it would matter? I talk to my possible printer tomorrow and I'll see what he suggests I use. Thanks again Orlando Spider. Tobey i believe is 5'7 or 5'8 and probably weighed around 150, of course, he looked heaver in the suit because he also wore a thin muscle suit underneath to bring out the muscle definition.

I am skinny only weighing about 160 lbs. Have any of the taller guys run into the problem the the spidey costumes beign to short or will the spandex stretch enough to fit me? Also on my pattern there are two little red strips with the brick pattern. I'm not sure what these are,I can't figure out where they go when putting together the suit.

Hi Guys
Firstly, I have to say I am completely blown away by the quality of the suits being made here. There are so many genuises / artists among you its a bit daunting for the mere mortals like myself! A life long spidey fan, since my dad brought me some epsiodes of the original series on VHS to cheer me up after an operation, its been with me ever since.
I would love to have the skills any know how to make a suit for myself. Especially one like those made by Ollie and Nayef (OVDH and Spiderman5?). True class gentleman.
One thing that I was wondering. Has anyone put together a list of links where one can go to buy spandex, urethane etc etc? A getting started list for the novice like me? I have a long way to go, but I really wany to own a good suit!
Irish Spidey.
Welcome Irish spider i too wanna learn how to make and own another spidey suit of my own

Anyway, here's the back....

I've actually been making a few modifications so that it'll fit me a bit better since i'm not 100% up to spiderman build, so at this point there are a few miner descrepencies i'm afraid :-X but it's all my doing. Nonetheless, it's still an Amaaaaaazing suit, and i'm not done yet. It'll be 100 % again soon :)

Do you have your own personal site with pictures of the costume, I would be very interested to see your expert techniques.
Can't wait for more pics of the suit, wow, you really do look like you could step onto the set of Spidey 3 and the production team probably couldn't tell the difference!

Hi all,
looking good Orlando!
I´m currently making a mask for our German carneval in 2 weeks.
As it´s cold here and it will be a parade I decided not to go out in a complete costume.
So to all Germans here: Spidey will be in Mainz at the "Rosenmontagsumzug"!!

Wow Ollie your red color is so bright. I am about to get my pattern dye sublimated. I hope it turns out as bright as yours. Speaking of getting a print, does anyone know if $0.89 per square foot plus set up fee is a decent price for Dye sublimation. So far it is my lowest quote.

Awesome Ollie! I am working on my carnaval outfit too! It'll be a full suit with crotch zipper and separate mask.
I finally finished my first suit!! It really took me way longer than I expected, but I wanted to be fully satisfied. Here are a few pictures, which are all made in full daylight. Even though I like the pictures, I think the real thing looks a lot better. I'll put on the suit myself (this is a mannequin) this weekend and try to make better pictures. Anyways... Enjoy!

Hey everybody! Long time gone, but I'm back and up and working on costumes again. I'm looking for an old friend from this board from a few years back that helped me by supplying me with some buckles for a Superman belt. I think his name was "Sam" but now I'm just not sure. He worked with CAD and was able to produce props and prop pieces using a machine that cut them out. If this sounds like you...LOL PLEASE get into contact with me. I've got a new project that I want to try.
Thanks everyone,

Schuurkes, that suit looks amazing, I particularly like the webbing, it looks so clean and vibrant, it almost shines off the fabric.
You would probably know this, but was there a difference in the lenses used in Spidey 1 and 2? In 1 it was established by Acheson that they were Oakley-type lenses, but I'm sure modifications were made for the sequel.
In close-ups of the mask in Spider-Man 2, the lenses look much whiter and less reflective.
Schuurkes
02-17-2006, 09:48 PM
Hey,
What I used for the lenses I explained months ago several times. Still, it’ll be hard to copy them, because you’ll have to find exactly the same material. The lenses are not dependent on the light that shines on it. They have a white appearance anyway you look at it.
I attached the back spider only a few days ago. It was the only thing still necessary and most of the pictures were made when it wasn’t on it yet.
My pattern is not the original one. Obviously I used the tkcomics pattern, because that’s all we have, but I completely redrew it. Only this took me 100’s of hours, but it was necessary to achieve what I wanted. I found the tkcomics pattern way too dark and completely unusable. You can see that I changed the pattern especially on the upper arms. If you want clear brick pattern on the tkcomics pattern, you’ll have to darken it that much, that the arms aren’t red any more but appear black. It’s the same at the belly.
The webs are tulip, right. If you take all your time to apply it and don’t rush yourself it can be applied really clean.
Thanks for all the compliments!!

It seemed that I had to put the white balance of the camera on daylight, when making daylight pictures. These give a much better view of the real colors.
Hey, I need some help so I can post in better quality. How do I make pictures smaller in size and bytes, without losing too much quality? What I do now is just scale it 50% in paint, but this really takes a lot of pixels. If anyone can tell me how, please PM me!
This is the same suit, colors look different now.

I'd love to buy one of those babys! I too hope you get all the moolah you deserve for such a fantastic suit.
Here's a low tech yet simple way to restrict photo size but manage to keep the quality, simply copy the normal photo into Word or another DTP program and then size it down using Word's tools - drag in the corners to make it smaller.
Then when its the size you want, press PrintScreen (PrtScrn key) and copy this into Paint.
The image will be a screen shot of the entire desktop, but then you just edit this so it leaves only the picture.
Hope it helps.

Hey,
I really couldn't say what I want for the suit. Any price I ask won't be enough to earn back the costs I made for it. I think the only option is just to put it on ebay and sell it to the highest bidder.
For those who asked, your length should be between 5 feet 8 inch and 6 feet 2 inch and shoe size must be between 10-12 to fit. Your waist should be 'normal' sized.

Hey no problem man, I would've liked that, but between business at work and not having a car (i had a minor accident with major repairs) i just never got the chance :(
Also, Schuurkes, Your suit looks great man! An excellent job well done :) I agree 100% about the TULIP paints... they can look GREAT with a steady hand and careful plotting and time spent. It looks good... i bet it'll be very durable for a loong time. good 'crawling' stance as well, btw.
BTW, guys... today i had the most amazing time with my suit! I did a birthday party for a young boy who was just turning 3 :) I'm gonna be posting up some choice pics in a a little bit. Admittedly they're kind of cruddy, but that's because the mother didn't know how to use the camera.
They'll be sending me the ones that they took though, so it should turn out better.

Alright guys! I'm back home for the day, (it's been a long one)
after issues with e-mail this morning and getting out at a more rushed pace than comfortable, getting the the party, breezing through it, getting home, going to work, and then settling in for the night finally at 12 a'clock... i'm BEAT!!
Nonetheless, I'm 100% confident that the party was a success on my end I got there ran up, had pictures taken, then proceeded to go around the park with the 3 yr. old birthday boy. I pushed him on the swing, went down the slides with him, displayed my acrobatic semi prowess (haha, right) mingled with the kids and told stories, and then finally sang happy birthday and stayed for cake (which i couldn't eat .... darn attached masks) and then made my depart (much to the birthday boy's dissapointment,.... to which he began to cry) Until i assured him that he'd see me again one day (very possible if i ever did a friend's of their's party) and whished him congratulations on 3 successful cool years of life, he was content and ran off to play with the other kids.
I had a blast, and i'm pretty sure everyone else did too . Now i did bring my camera for some pictures, however it's kind of a tricky camera and i don't think the mom quite had figured out that the focus was manually done... so some of them are quite blurry.... but here are the good shots for now
Hopefully they'll send me better ones that they took of their camera. If you want to see all the pics i have so far go here..

The zippers go where they normally go, from the arm pit down the sides and below the belt.
hey thanks
I really didn't know anything about the zippers. just that they were there.
Do you know where I can find a tutorial on how to add the zippers to my suit?
Because mines is "very" strechy so I made is "very" small (just enough to fit me fit comfort). So when I add my rubber webbing, it would look like the original one ^^
But anyway, do you know to how to add zippers to a untreched suit? otherwise I'll just have to move on to plan B...

Hey AME, make sure the fabric is stretched when sewing on the zipper. You can do this by pulling on the point, where you end the seaming. :S I don't understand my own explanation. Just make sure the fabric is stretched, by pulling on it while sewing. Good luck!

Hey guys here is an update. This is my most recent print. Its on great fabric. This fabric really brought out the colors the way it should. It is very saturated and looks great under flash. The last fabric didnt look good under flash. Im also working on my new webs. The urethane is fused with the paint so it will never come off, no matter what. Here are pics of the print. I took pics under different lighting to give you an idea. The ones with no flash and no lights, just sunlight, are alittle dark because its getting dark here, but tomorrow ill take some under sunlight. They always look better under natural light.
