N Fox, this picture is even darker. the brightness seems really low, is your moniter set differently than mine? if you were to print that onto fabric i think the colors would barely come out.

Maybe it is just an issue with our monitors, it shows up fine for me. Oh well, When it comes time to print, I will work closely with a printer to make sure my colors come out rich and bold. So even if the colors aren't perfect now, they will be.

For now, I am going to remain tight lipped about my techniques, only because they took about 5 months to develop (Read: find), but I will give up my "secret" eventually. Some time after I finish my patterns I will tell everyone the "easy way."

Thanks to the "easy way" I can take any pattern (Not just bricks), overlay it onto the suit, and instantly deform it to the shape needed.

Here is a [not very good] hint to my methods: It's all in the muscles.

Nick Fox

PS: Sorry, about not saying more. It's just that I have invested vast amounts of time into finding and honing this method, so I hope you don't mind me guarding my methods a little bit longer.

Hey Nick, I read ya, loud and clear. Ive been doing that way for a long time, i need more of a subtle brick pattern though, if you could throw me a bone about that, thatd be tight

PM me and well talk

 If they could have used this in spiderman 3, it would've been an almost exact comic/tas translation of the black suit. It's better than the current one they're using for spiderman 3.

.........
hows that like the original comic version?, it looks alot like the new costume

Like I said, I am holding onto my technique for a little bit longer. The nice thing about this technique though is that it lends itself well to subtle "rises and falls" in the brick pattern, and allows you to rapidly change the intensity of the deformation, but for now, this is my secret ;) .

Just give it some time, the technique still has some bugs, and I am a little selfish. Combine the two and you might have to wait a few weeks or months until I leak my technique. Sorry.

NICE, the only thing I would say is that the lower middle legs need to be longer. Because of the nature of the poster it is hard to see, but the center legs drop lower than the outer one. If you look at it closely, you'll see "Ghost images" of the lower middle legs.

Overall though, it's great.

Nope, this carries my own. The difference with ollies is that the sides are really black now and the tops are metallic, which makes the suit come to life. They are completely hand painted to avoid any of the metallic graphite getting on the sides and to have an equal amount of paint on top in every cast, two problems that happen when you powdercoat. Result is especially better from up close. Problem is that painting just one web takes close to 100 hours. But it’s nothing compared to the time I spent on drawing my webs in illustrator for the digital mold making.

How about it Brad, webs silver enough? It's the metallic effect that makes the movie webs look so bright, but it really depends on the light you shine on them. I'll try to make a video of this one, to show the effect.

Check out my new frames, did a lot of modification to them again to make sure they do fit right on the fabric, since the originals were made for a shell. All is unpainted yet.

Hey Spidar-Man and The Man of 17, I don't know for sure if this is what NFox is doing and if so, don't necassarily mean to ruin his secret, but try doing a displacment. If you don't know how to do it, I'll explain. This could become quite time consuming to get it right, but once you have it, you'll be able to apply it over and over again, very easily.

In photoshop, you will want to make a new layer in your Channels box that is completely black, then using a soft brush you will draw your muscle pattern. Or if you have your muscle shading on a separate layer, I would copy that to your new channels layer and invert it so it becomes white. White will increase where as black will decrease, so you may want some greyish areas in there as well. Give all of your muscle shading a Gaussian Blur. Once you have done that, copy that entire layer and create a new file and paste it into the new file. Save it out as displacementMap.psd. Now activate your brick pattern layer and go to filter->distort->displace. Set your horz and vert scale, select okay then browse to your displacementMap.psd and thats it.

Like I said, it may take several attempts at getting the displacement map correct as well as your vert and horz scaling.

Hope this helps.

Well, I am finally "done" my patterns. The web lines took me the most time to do, but they are finally done. The first picture is of my movie styled symbiote, with a brick pattern that simulates the raised, silk screened quality of the actual costume:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v419/FoxyMcFox/Picture-2.jpg

The next one is a quickie, in really low quality (So the bricks drop out in certain parts) that I made to see what the pattern would look like with some simulated 3d webs:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v419/FoxyMcFox/Picture-3.jpg

I might throw a few of these onto ebay, just to get some money for the insane amounts of time I have spent on these.

Any opinions on the patterns (Besides "You should start over")?

Yes window tint is flexible. Just go to any car parts store, they should have it.

Advance Auto Parts, Pep Boys, AutoZone, Wal-mart might even have it...

P.S. I just thought I should let everyone know, due to money concerns I MIGHT be selling my spiderman/ superman returns suit.

That's just because the top part is just a piece of cardboard slipped into the boot. These people sell the best stuff, and it's direct from Sony. I bought a small costume piece after SM2. They are a top-notch seller. I can't wait till they sell pieces from the black suit.

What do you mean by the front and the back "plate" of the spider?

Do you mean that you need the front and back spiders FOR your spiderman suit? or is it to add 'flavor' to the actual display case you're making.

What kind of materials are you using for your costume? We might have some recommendations or information sources if you gave us alittle more clarity on what you're trying to do.

Do you have any concept drawings perhaps?

it was a off-topic question , so yes it was for my display case

im going to use the front spider as doorhandels ( im making this out of aluminum and glue the spider off the material that i see on this topic on it ) and the back spider ( the red one ) comes on the inside at the back of case ....

so iff you can help me with this, please pm me and maybe we can make a deal

Orlando Spider
07-24-2006, 04:17 PM
Ok yes i see what you're talking about. Well, you should know that the movie spiders are made from latex or urethane.

If you're making the door handle out of one of them, i wouldn't recommend covering it in the spider. If you'll be accessing it it will most likely degrade, as they are not invincble.

However, do you think it'd look just as good to make the spider-emblems out of the same sheet metal? Might look kind of classy, as well as would hold up MUCH better. In which case, finding the spider patterns is also easier. That's just my suggestion...

Okay, I have a few questions. I am working on recreating my own pattern to print as many of you have done on this forum.

1. What is a good round about price that many of you have experienced for getting them printed for one full print?

2. How do you go about resizing them to fit people of different statures? I'm about 5'9" and 175 lbs, so how do I go about making it for someone who is a few inches taller or shorter than I?

3. For the colors of the suit, do any of you know or have a good movie matching color or know the rgb, cmyk, etc code that I could plug into photoshop to match the color exactly? I would like to find out from somebody here that is willing to share so I don't waste a bunch of money or time on several different test prints.

4. What program are you using to create your webs to take to have them milled or whatever the process is you are using to create your molds? Or does anyone know where I could purchase ready made molds for the webs or possibly the file in which you used to create them so I could take them and have a mold created from it?

I believe these are all the questions I have for now. I appreciate anyones help and all of the hard work you guys have put into making all the great suits on this thread.

Thanks

Oh no Wams found out, Damn! hahahahaha!!!

yeah I had a good time and yes I wore Knight Seeker too at the convention and was interviewed as KS as well. I also go on live TV for G4 I was the Black Shiny Spider in the back ground along with the other superheros ;) If anyone has any footage of that show please let me know where I can find it on the net.

I had the pleasure of meeting our founder at the Convention, this was totally unexpected. I have talked to Mike Hill on line but in person he is even better. Mike is a very well mannered, hang loose kind of guy, and his girl Jennifer is a sweet heart. I also had dinner with them, and a actor/stuntman named Damien. We had a great time at Joe's Crab Shack right behind the convention center in San Diego. I wished that Orlandospidey and Spiderman005 were able to come out to see him, but they were both doing their own thing. I wish you were out there too Wams, your just as much fun from what I can tell from seeing you a few times at the Comic Con.

Another big treat was that I got to see some of Mike's new projects, and that man has an eye for detail. I don't want to say too much as of yet since I know Mike likes to keep a low profile on the projects he works on. Plus at the end of dinner we went up on the top outside level of the convention hall. The stunt/actor Damien worked on a pose for Knight Seeker so that Mike could start working on ideas of how to enhance the character on action money shot images. It should be interesting to see what Mike comes up with after I get the novel in his hands so that he has a true feeling of the character.

Last update a large publishing house maybe looking into Knight Seeker for possible national publication. This publishing house has always catered to Sci-Fi and I would be happy if Knight Seeker is valid enough for them, but of course I already known its a different idea with a more original story line. Also one of the Big Comic Book house agents are looking into this novel for a possible comic series.

I keep busy guys as you can tell, it just takes time to get noticed. But I have good and very talented people that I am surrounded with and keep me going. I thank all who have supported me in this effort and I will make sure that Knight Seeker will be known by many.

Wow, lookin good skdzines, yeah i also tried out that displacement mapping, with som improved muscles, the only thing that seems to give me a problem is when i contrast the muscles so that they really stick out, like i said, if you set up an msn account, we could talk alot more frequently and help each other out.

Eric did your guys in China do that suit? looks well done.

Good job with that pattern skdzines. Although i'd suggest making the blue darker. The red looks abit 'pastel' right now.... i'd also suggest saturating it a bit more for a richer red color.

And slightly OT, for art fans.

Hey would that happen to be that PHINE Miracole? She is a great person out there.

Yeah Orlando its a China suit but from an exclusive Distributor there who can make PVC products, only two have the rights to deal with them. My person is from Canada. Also they work on my Knight Seeker suits as well for the public. Also note if you guys go to my site www.KnightSeeker.com I have lowered the prices of the suits by half both PVC and regular lycra.

Also Orlando you really have a lot of fun drawing dont you :)

Thanks guys. Orlando, thanks for the color suggestions, I'll keep plugging away at it. I just can't seem to find the right color red when set to CMYK, they just don't represent the same on the screen as they do when it is set to RGB.

Does anyone here have the CMYK percentages they are using for the red and blue that come out looking really good once printed that they would be willing to share?

Thanks again.

You have to notify ebay. Just link your original auction to them via e-mail. You can find a link through the site map, you'll see a link that says something like fraud or using pictures without permission. They will remove the fraud pretty quickly.

It looks really good... amazing in fact... I hope I can get my webs that nice... But just to play devil's advocate it looks as though the webs are floating above the surface of the suit... maybe if you lightly overlaid the muscle shading on the webs so they appear to have the same light source and shadows it might ground them... or maybe warp them in the same direction that the brick patterns take over the muscles?? Just some friendly suggestions... really impressive work in all..
I'd also like to say thank you forthe tutorials on your site for assembling the suit. they have helped my understanding of the suit making process tremendously.

Anyone dealt with this guy, and if so, what's the feedback on his stuff? Clearly not much of it is film-authentic but it looks pretty decent for the prices they're asking.

I realize it's in China but his rating is high and his "raters" are, in turn, well-rated.

I'm not costume expert so you don't have to take any advice. You can buy a cool Venom mask online. If I was you I would buy it and IF you can CGI the mouth in the movie so you'll have it moving OR keep the Venom face in the dark so you don't really get a shot of plastic mask. If your going to make a mask by yourself, I suggest use robotics to make the mouth move and just and green slime around the mouth. Pulling off Venom will be tricky.

Hmm... actually i'm wondering. What are you using for muscular reference doing the shading on this suit?

.... I will admit that at it's current state, im imagining it looking akward once printed and being worn on a human body :-\
It just seems to streamlined...more like a stylized drawing than accurate muscle mass :-\, i hope you're not offended, just trying to offer some constructive criticism :) I will have you know that that i LOVE the idea behind it :).... and have full confidence the finished product will look good.

I love a good discussion...bluring the edges...maybe.. or changing the base colour to more match the muscle base...plenty of things to try. Still it will be a unique looking suit. :)

Hi folks, no doubt you all have received numerous requests like this, but here goes...

I'd be interested in purchasing a replica Spidey 3 costume (the black one) from one of you extremely talented designers. Spidey4fun for example - your design looks stunning. Ideally, i'd like one as true to the movie design as possible with (if possible) raised webbing.

If anyone would like to pm me, we can discuss pricing etc.

I apologise if there's a set protocol for this sort of request, as I said, i'm sure it gets asked a lot on this thread, but at 500+ pages, the prospect of searching for similar requests is a little daunting! Any help (or a nudge in the right direction) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all.

Orlando Spider
08-16-2006, 09:13 PM
I might.... But that's actually not my decision to make to be honest (regarding this pattern.... if that's what you are referring to) Commissions in the future? Possibly.... i'd like to build my own skills to that point. But i wouldn't be comfortable saying that just yet :)

Orlando, this may or may not be a stupid question, but my friend and I were sitting here earlier arguing about what your new costume looks like, is it Venom? Or a black Spidey costume? We were a little perplexed because there was no actual webbing on it. Either way, it will look great I'm sure.

08-17-2006, 01:23 PM
this is a question about the webbing, help if you can! I am about to purchase the latex. What is the best and cheapest place to purchase. I was going to buy it from a person that makes the suits and it was like $45 I thought that was high some what. Let me know, and also what is the best way to apply the webbing. I see the pictures up top of the black suit, which I want to make and it looks like it is put on piece by piece. Also what is a good place to have sub dye printing done for the lycra bricking.

You guys are all very skilled, and I just hope to gain some knowledge thanks! I just want to try and create my own suit and something I can take pride in! Thanks guys!

Hi Darth

I got my suit from Ollie today and it took nearly 17 days to get from Ollie to me (and thats inside Europe). Given that Brad is way over in Oz, I'm sure its just been delayed.

Ollie's on the level. He's just busy. We have a saying in Ireland that you are 'up the walls' when you are busy. Seems really appropriate for any Spider-freak doesnt it!

Wow, nice looking suit Brad, I like the urethane spiders! I'm just glad i don't have to worry about them peeling off or popping off when I am flipping around. Darth, you will look sweet!

And Orlando Spider... WHY ARE YOU NOT GOING TO DC?? You will be missed, I was hoping to take some good pics with you and Gwen!! Speaking of Gwen, Here are some pics of US at that same convention!

Awesome suit! Congrats. Ollie does one heck of a job.

Are you wearing a face shell in the pics? And is the mask detached from the body?

Post more pics!

Its an all in one with a face shell. Heck of a job to get into it, but definitely better than seperate mask. The neck line and chin are sweet. Also, having the mask means the eyes don't fog :)

I'll try to get some more pics at the weekend. Have an exam to get through for work first.

Got a PM asking for shots of the shoes. Dont have any close ups only this full body shot. Flash was on for this one. Doesnt do the colours any justice at all. They are much deeper and warmer colours that this. The bust shot from my earlier post is far more representative.

Hopefully there's no similar slowness in the postal service from Australia to the East Coast of the USA!!!

Hi Darth,
I was one of the first to get one of the Spidey4fun suits. It arrived in record time to Washington, DC so you should have no problems. :spidey:

Also to Orlando, Spidey4fun and Irish, the suits and photos look great.
To SpiderEMC, thanks for sharing the funny YouTube.

Irish Spidey Looking Good Bro.

Brad Pumping out the suits.

Urban the link is funny as anything I know :-)

Darth, hope your ready for Dragon Con.

PP0077, you know we always have a ball at DC.

Orlando, you handle your business. I know you would be at Dragon Con if you could, but your have other responsibilities like any superhero would. I will have a 40oz in your honor, along with many more after hours parties at the convention. Even going to that Toga party for a bit, was even thinking about having my one exposed nipple pierced :-) Ok well I'm not, that's extream, but it would be damn sexy ;)

I got a question that isn't so much about making suits but about the design of the new black suit and I figured since some people in here make great suits then they may have paid a lot of attention to the detail. Are the webs on the new black suit silver or black? I thought they were black and it would make more sense if they were since the symbiot will be covering the old suit. But I saw Spidey4fun's new black suit (which looks incredible by the way) and the webs are silver. So are the webs silver or black?

I'd say they are black...but have a reflective appearance so they'd reflect the light and look shinny...but I can't do that when printing so I've gone for a grey/silver look so they can be seen.

Yep. I'd agree with that. The Red/Blue movie suit has webs that are a reflective gun-metal grey. If you watch the movie, in many shots the webs appear lighter because the scene was shot in a well lit area. In other scenes in low-light.... the webs appear a darker shade.

With that said... I believe they decided to go with the same webbing for the black suit... A reflective Gun-Metal.

I'll second that... well... third that I guess. the webbs are a gunmetal grey.

BTW, Is that suit based on the second movie suit or the third movie suit?

Hi,

I´m glad everything arrived.

@Irish: It seems like the jaw of the shell wasn´t completely closed in the pics. The jaw opens a bit when you put the mask on so just check that everytime you wear it and the look will be better.

@batarang: despite of the back spider which now also has a brick pattern (just started working on it) the 2nd and 3rd movie suit are the same.

I will continue with improvements for the suits so there are some nice pics to follow in the next months. And after 2 years of making spidey costumes this halloween will be the first to go out as Spidey, because I finally managed to lose some weight and gain muscles for the right look.

Hey everybody :) Here's another little tease....

still trying to get it just right. I scrapped the idea of the "shiney" webbing on the highlites (of the black suit)in favor of another approach. We'll see how it turns out ;)

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/Tsuyosa18/Spiderman3/blacktease3.jpghttp://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y87/Tsuyosa18/Spiderman3/Spideytest.jpg

The contrast and shading is still a work in progress.... but I like the overall look better now than where it was....I suppose it's hard to tell that you can see bricks in the darkest areas as well too though.

These patterns are *HARD* to work on! I have a great respect now for those who came before me. O_o

Looking great, can't wait to see how it looks printed out.

Forgive my ignorance, but the webs are made of urethane? I'm putting together my own suit, but I might make my own webs, and I can't find any of that stuff. I look around and just come up with the foam. Anyone know where I can get some.

Or for that matter, pre-made webs that fit a 5'8 guy that wants a removable hood o_o

I just want to be the coolest looking nerdy photographer on my street during Halloween. :}

Thanks for reading, hope it wasn't too much of a bother,

Achron
