I went into Target yesterday in my black S4Fun suit and picked up the SM3 DVD. I didn't get mobbed like I have been in the past while wearing the suit but the reactions from people were priceless:
"Dude did you get that off of the Internet?"
"Shoot your webs!"
"Climb on the walls!"
"Spider-man look my girlfriend is in danger!"
"Hey can you get sued for wearing that?"
"Can you give me one of your movies?"
And from the checkout guy:
"Huhuh this conversation reminds me of that elevator scene in Spider-man 2"
There were also a few small kids around that I think I scared the crap out of, sorry about that Target moms!
Anyone else go buy the movie in their suit?

Your best bet, it to get aqua shoes and hand sew the spidey fabric to it, that's what Brad does.
Or if you want to go the glue route get some super glue gel, it should hold up decent but not as good as sewing.
I've been reading this post for a while and I've gotten alot of good ideas from it. I have also been working on a suit of my own based on the comic book more than the movie and I've gotten down to the feet and have hit a problem. I can't find any aqua shoes. Walmart has cleared them out for winter. Any idea where I can go so I don't have to wait for summer to roll around? Thanks for any help.

the problem with this suit is that the webs by the arms seems like it's faded. other than that, the suit doesn't look bad at all, i would recommend a faceshell.
i like the frames and lenses, especially how white they are, unless it's photoshopped?

Hey guys! Finished my suit just under the wire for Halloween (minus the back spider). Since I was just answering the door the kids didn't seem to notice. Word got around the neighborhood quick and the kids (and parents) seemed to get a kick out of it. Of course, so did I. Something pretty cool about people wanting your picture & autograph! It's funny, out of the small handful of kids that were nervous, most of them were dressed as Spidey. Anyway, here's a quick shot before the sun dropped (I was literally working on it an hour before the doorbell started to ring). Keep up the great work and keep posting pics! :woot:

Hey guys, Every one knows how great Spidey4fun's (aka Brad) suits are but I wanted to take a second here to thank him publicly for an awsome suit. I ordered my suit back in May weighing in at 198 lbs and swore to be in shape to wear it by halloween. So, I worked my ass off and on halloween I was weighing 155 on the nose. So here are some shots of my suit taken this weekend.

Probably about $150 in materials in the actual costume. A little more than that in trial & error designing it. Plus (just learning how to sew) the cost of the machine & supplies. Overall, first costume, about $500-$600.

Brado that looks awesome. If there were ever to be a real life Peter Parker and he made a suit himself, it would look just like that. It's a tribute to the Lee and Didko Spidey.
Brad the new concept looks great. Did you get your first print sewn up or did you just make a print for a customer? I'd really like to see a finished version. great work as always!

Wow, that's actually what I'm trying to do. I've already lost 10 lbs, but I want to lose more till I get in "proper" shape, I guess.
Got a question, though - technically would it be better to order a suit first and get into shape for it, or get into shape first to have the correct measurements to place an order for a suit at that point?

megafrost507, tough question. Ordering mine ahead of time was one way to keep my self motivated and I was once in shape so I had a good idea as to what my measurments would be.
young-nyc, The photos where taken in my living room. I shoot weddings and stuff on the side so I have all I need for a small studio. So after shooting my wife and little girl in their costumes I placed the lights so they would focus on the spidey suit and throw the backdrop into shadow and used a dark muslin backdrop. Handed the wife the camera and let her go at it while I posed.

Hey guys, yeah Brad is right, my comic stylesuit is coming together slowly but surely. I orginally sent it to a seamstress over here in the UK who told me she knew what she was doing, a week later she called me up saying she had almost finished and for me to come and have a look. Any how I went down to her place and she had finished it... completely wrong! Doh!!! I told her Spiderman wears gloves not mittens and she had sewn the hands like mittens. Lol. Anyway I took all her stitching out and have tacked it all correctyl so all she has to do is sew over the tacking lines. I drop it off to her tomorrow so should have it next week. Hopefully constructed properly.

wow same problem here, did you still pay her? the lady that did mine, she sewed it so that the back spider, became 2 half spiders, the mask turned into a hood, and non of the webbing matched. Quite laborious to take out all of that stitch! ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!i' am almost done with mine by the way, just arms and zippers left to do.
question, what is the best method to applying lenses to mask, (suggestions for detachable and non detachable would be appreciated.)

I love this suit! The attention to detail is supurb... the way the transition from the chest to the shoulders is exactly rounded like the older comic books, and the eyes. Great job.. your hard work and refinement during your trial and error phase really shows. Congratulations. There are only 3-5 home made suits out of the dozens that I have seen that really knock my socks off... this is one of them! I hope to see it in person someday. Do you plan to attend Comic Con next year with this suit?

That trick doesn't work, their banned items are banned, they will remove it regardless, i tried selling a paperclip with a free monopoly park place peice, they removed it in a few hours, as ebay does not allow for "lottery" peices or things that people can win stuff by chance. also, i think people turn other people in.....

Unfortunately I think a lot of it comes down to chance. I've seen that trick work plenty (recently even). It's probably just a matter of who's on watch when they're scanning auctions, and what side of the bed they got up on. I'm sure between the competition and squares out there there's probably plenty of people getting reported, too.

Hey all, I've been watching the eBay auctions for the screen used pieces of the Spider-Man costume and I've developed a jones for one to hang on my office wall, but I can't pay $5,000 for one (At least not without my wife KILLING me!) So that got me thinking, does anyone have (Or can anyone make?) a piece of costume that I could buy from them and just Shadow-Box myself? I'm thinking about a boot, or Chest/Back Spider w/fabric background, or Mask, Gloves, etc? I would like to have a piece that looks like it could have been screen used along with the appropriate raised webs, silk-screening, lens, whatever. I'm hoping that I could buy a nice piece and frame it myself for less than the crazy money that a genuine one costs (I mean, you could buy three complete costumes for what one little piece costs, and they never state that it was used by Tobey. It could just be a stunt suit that never even saw any screen time!) If anyone has an idea, or a ruined suit that they might want to sell a piece of, let me know. wow same problem here, did you still pay her? the lady that did mine, she sewed it so that the back spider, became 2 half spiders, the mask turned into a hood, and non of the webbing matched.
Hey man,
Yeah I still paid her. I am dropping off the suit this weekend and hopefully the end result will be correct. Lol. Well she cant go wrong as I have tacked it in place. Well... hopefull she cant go wrong. Lol.
I will post pics next weekend hopefully.

a tip if i may do so, i had to unstitch mine after it came back and i temporary stitched it for my mother to sew. Please tell who ever you have sewing yours to watch the 3d webs, i would recommend pulling them apart as it is sewn, if she just sews it without looking, you will have overlap and it may come out a little less than you had expected. THE HANDS MAKE SURE THAT SHE DOES NOT SEW THE FINGERS TO CLOSELY AS IT WILL MAKE IT VERY HARD TO GET YOUR HANDS IN AND WILL WASH OUT THE COLOR BECAUSE THE MATERIAL HAS TO STRETCH TO ACCOMMODATE YOUR FINGERS! post pics when it is done, i would like to see how it comes out!

Hello Board, I have to say that the amount of talent on this board is staggering. The work and artistry displayed here is quite a testament to our shared love of the character. I envy all of you your skill. I'm asking your help to find a Spider-Man mask to purchase. I'm looking for a real top-quality one like the ones I see in photos on this board. Maybe an under-shell, magnetic lens, urethane webbing etc. Fettsters lens are absolutely beautiful. Yetters mask-shell is amazing. Schuurkes work speaks for it self. Ollie's pictures make me want to cry! I really want to buy (or commision?) a Spider-Man mask that is as beautiful and screen accurate as the ones I see here. Money is NO object! (Alright, maybe it's a partial object :cwink: ) Can anyone help me? Does anyone know where I can find this Holy Grail to complete my lifes obsession? Please P.M. me, or respond here. I'm really excited to try and get this going. Any help would be incredibly appreciated!

welcome to the board dude...
i've owned both urethane and printed webbing..and from my experience a properly printed 3d webbing suit is just as good as a urethane suit...
not many people can even tell the difference, especially in the pictures.
the printed suit is a lot more durable and doesn't need much care as the urethane webbing does as well.

Thanks nameless hero,
I don't have any other pics from the Halloween outing I can post because the rest of the pics have kids in them. There are some pics of the suit on pg 621 of this board from when I was almost finished with the webbing. They should give you a good idea of what the print looks like. The raised webs look cool in person but they sure are a pain in the butt - I've got a bunch to repair (Mostly on the arms and legs) after the Halloween outing. I guess the only upside to using the Tulip paint over urethane is the old webs can be cut off and new webs are "in the bottle." Thanks again for your complement.

Schuurkes said it is urethane paint, and it was specially made by a factory.
That's about as much as I know about it lol.

Hey all,
first off great suit Spiderman C, pity you have to sell your suit, hope it fetches some good $$$. :cwink:
today i went to my first birthday party for kids.
oh my goodness the following happened to me:
as soon as i showed up,
this little girl around 10 years old came charging at me with full on punches and kicks, like i was a life size punching bag. it was pretty brutal,
the room was pretty dark, i couldn't see a thing and BANG! BOOM! HI-YAH!!! came these furies of hits straight from power rangers.
right after this, some little boy around 6 comes to me and punched me in my family jewels!! :wow: (btw no i wasn't wearing a cup) and not just once twice!! i couldn't believe it,
not to mention he was trying to take off my urethane spiders off as well.
good thing i have the printed webbing suit, because if i had urethane webbing,,,well forget that, it would've been definitely ruined.
this was the first time i ever got this type of welcoming from kids. I've done appearances before and the kids are usually much nicer.
luckily the DJ stopped the music and made an annoucement NOT TO HIT spiderman :(
i guess this should've been the first thing being announced before making the appearance.
well next time i have to set some ground rules and make sure the parents hold onto their kids better.

Hey don't know if anyone will care about this But i find Folkart acrylique paint Works amazingly well with urethane webs!!
the first finger has sliver painted on the tip just to test it. All the rest of the painted webs are Ollies gunmetal. there is no plea of rub off! So if you can get Folkart Gunmetal then your set but hard to find!

i mean what can you do?
a friend of mine on the boards told me an incident where his baby cousin punched him in the face, when he was dressed up as spiderman...
i can't believe how violent these kids are.
usually i either get a reaction where the kids are either
1) scared
2) very friendly
now i can add
3) aggrevated violence :cmad: to the list hehe
not to mention the kid also was squeezing my buttocks!!

hey everybody, i am putting up my spiderman costume up for sale on here and if anyone is interested in it, please email me asap with a best offer. the suit will fit someone around 5' 7"-5' 9" im guessing .the suit is about 90% complete. the only the left is having the arms/hands sewn and then attached to the full suit, which wont take long at all. i have already been attaching the urehthane webbing to the suit as well. the print does have amazing colors. this does come with urethane webbing, which is a gunmetal silver color just like the movies, as well. Not only has the back spider has already been attached to the suit but the some of the webbing (like the chest and the a part of the back of the head) has been applied. It has taken me hours working on this suit but i am putting it up for sale cause i never have any time to complete it as i work alot. i really hate to get rid of it but i am. I would rather it be with an owner who has time to complete it and enjoy it as it is just sittin in my house waitin on me to finish it. so whats included in here is the print, with some webbing applied, the complete set of webs to finish off the suit, the print pieces of the arms/hands to be sewn together. dont miss out of this great looking suit. i am got many complements on it. please if anyone is interested in it, send me a private message asap before someone else gets it. i am selling the suit to the person with the first come first serve best offer. i promise that there is nothing wrong with the suit. i just dont have time to complete it but like i said its about 90% done!

Hi all,
Its been awhile and first off, I would like to apologise to everyone who has tried to contact me since my last post.
I had to give this hobby up for a while, I ran into finacial difficulties so had to get another job, I work on a commision basis so i have to work alot! then business started to dry up so i had to work harder longer, then i had to work even longer for less money!
It was very stressfull and consuming. Im very happy to report that i have changed professions now and have more of a stable income and more free time so im hoping to pick up where i left off.
I had my new print all finished and stored on my laptop, then my girlfriend dropped it! I have a new laptop on the way (this computer im on now is a work computer), as soon as it arrives, ill have to start on the pattern again which is fine as thats where all the fun is.
My lenses mold is shot, once i have cleared a couple of debts, ill order some more silicone and remold them.
Hope everyone out there is well and I see som really good stuff.
Also,Brad, glad to see you still leading the race and kicking out some awesome stuff!

Sure Brad, I can try to get some more pictures for you. Unfortunately, the boot is inside a sealed shadow-box. The only way to get to it is to cut the shadow-box apart (Which I'm obviously hesitant to do:csad: ). I can see the sole of the boot, and the area where the lycra meets the sole. I'll try to get some more pics later today. The flash reflects off of the glass and makes things burry, but I'll do what I can for you.

11-26-2007, 04:30 PM
Taylor, try putting some tissue paper over the flash with a rubber band or tape. It will act as a difuser and allow the flash to spred out and cut the flash reflection down some. That is if you haven't thought about that all ready. :yay:
young-nyc
11-26-2007, 05:21 PM
or you can turn the flash off and make sure you take a picture in a well light room :)

Thanks for the tips Spidey73 and Young-NYC. I think I got some pretty decent pictures Brad (And anyone else who's interested.) The sole of the boot is a VERY fine tread (Almost like the grip on kitchen gloves). Other than that there is no other marking aside from wear from use on set. The lycra and webbing come all the way down to the sole which is only a few milimeters thick, so it looks like the lycra comes down to the floor. The boot seems to have some sort of internal structure or shell which maintains its "Square-Toe" structure, but other than that I can't see anything else as the top of the boot is pinched closed. The lycra pattern which is normally dye sublimated on the red costume, seems to be printed on the surface of the material with some sort of glossy paint, but it seems glued or melted to the surface rather than soaked in like the red lycra pattern that we're all used to. Hopefully these pics help. Let me know if anyone has any other questions or wants a different picture. :yay:

I'm amazed that such a thread has lasted for so long.
I am in search for a spider man suit and I'm appalled at the costumes they sell on the on net. I practice a dicipline called Parkour and it's basically the nearest a human can get to spiderman. Here's a link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x98jCBnWO8w&feature=related
David belle is the guy who started this craze off. He's from France. It's practiced by thousands all over the world. Before 2000 the practitioners were probably in double figures. Parkour is about moving from one place to another in terms of efficiency.
I'll also share another thing I happened to find while trying to find spidey suits
http://www.nanowerk.com/news/newsid=1836.php
This is about how scientists might have found a way how people can climb walls just like spidey. It's in development. If this becomes available to the public then parkour is really going to kick some ass.
There's 711 pages in this thread and I don't have time to read them all so could some one give me a brief over view on whats going on with the suits. Is someone selling suits or is there some really cool tutorials?
I just want a suit so I can go around as spiderman and Parkour gatherings and other cool stuff. Spiderman is really inspiriational. I can imagine that a class spiderman suit is a pride and joy especially if you made it your self. I train in public so I'd be used to people watching me.
Thanks mbyte. I'm from Ireland ;)

Not really the guy to answer this but i'm a long time lurker and do feel this (superb) thread could do with a general progress report, so here goes:
First you need a budget, i would say there's three price/suit categories.
$10-100 would get you that stuff on eBay you mentioned. Pretty terrible to be honest with the $10 mark getting you a CD of spidey print. I get the impression the seller is an outsider (to this group) as is never mentioned and not seen anyone in his suit.
$300-$500 (most popular band). About five different guys selling unsewn prints on lycra. Not going to name them; just incase i miss one;) but there is one that covers the widest selection of suits and is highly recommended. Webbing and spiders are printed (should always be printing process called 'Dye-sublimation' and sometimes 'screen printed' detail) Add about $200 if you want it sewn for you.
$1000-$5000 gets you the ultimate replica, screen accurate with 'urethane' (stretchy plastic stuff made in a mold) webbing and spiders. About three names here but I think all are 'missing in action'. If you really want one of these you'll need to do a bit more reasearch, watch eBay/this thread and be very patient!
A set of Eye frames+Lenses and face shells are always sold seperate and cost about $100 each.
I don't think that this applies to you but starting from scratch involves Photoshop, Illustrator, Molds for webbing/spiders, a 6ft(atleast) Dye-sub printer and heck load of spare time. Oh and sewing :)
Gutted this is only gonna notch my post score up buy one!
Oh, and i'm from the UK (noticed your from Ireland) all print companies here have a complete lockdown and will not print due to 'copyright' issues. US/Thailand and Oz seem Ok tho. :yay:

hey spidersuitmaker,
your print looks good, i especially like how the webs seem to pop out on your black suit print...i would say that the web lines on the red/blue suit's mask seems a bit on the thick side though...if you can thin it down a little but still keep the shadows, it would look great.

AZspidey
11-28-2007, 09:02 AM
The face shell is used under the mask to give you the correct look of spiderman. ie: shape of your head and jaw line or some people even use one so they can clip in the eye frames so they dont have to glue them to the mask.

About a year and a half ago I bought a CD off of a guy on ebay for just a few bucks. It had what I believe the board members here refer to as the "TK Comics pattern", if anyone is interested just leave me a message. The brick pattern is lost in the dark blues and there is a bit of "digital noise" in this pattern, and from what I understand it would need to be color corrected, far from the perfect ready to plot file as it was advertised then. I just used it as a jumping off point to create my own pattern, which I haven't yet completed. As there aren't any legal issues I would be happy to share it.

the tk comic pattern is not that bad for color maybe a little orange but noting that a printer cant correct in the setup fee that they charge you anyway just ask tmen to print a sample first. not all printers print the same way or use the same kind of printers. so every one will come out differnt. what is important is to let them know not to convert the rgb file into cymk befor printing as that will dull out the colors and drasticly change the outcome.
hope this helps

i got this email the other day thought i would share it with everyone
Hi mike,
This is Ryan Batcheller responding to your e-mail.
I'm having trouble sending out e-mail with my other account so I'm using this
one.
In answer your questions,
We used Kreyton glue for the webs, which is used in make-up application. I've
never purchased it myself so I don't know where to buy it. It's some dangerous
stuff and you need to wear a mask at all times when using that crap.
The fabric with web patterns were laid flat on foam board when we first glued
the webs down. Once sewn together we dressed it on a cast of Tobey McGuire and
joined the web connections over the seams. We used a standard hardware store
crazy glue on the web connections. Pinning the webs down to the suit until the
glue had hardened.
I had no involvement with the latex so I can't answer your questions regarding
that.
The webs were produced by ADI so maybe you can try talking to someone there.
That's all I got. I work in 3D animation now and have little other experience
doing practical effects.
Good luck with your suit.
