Does anyone have an opinion on who makes the best frames/lens? Or where to get them? In all the pictures I've seen in this thread they all look great, but it's hard to tell from some of the pictures. Whad'ya all think?

kj_shortie :) Let me start of by saying "Hello" to everyone on this board forum haha. To answer your question, It might be a bit hard to sell a suit at a high price especially this time of year? People are Christmas shopping for family and friends. My most concern is that another spider-man flick isn't going to be coming out soon and trust me by then your price will soar! Another reason may simply be that your suit is unfinished and people might not know what do upon receiving the suit. Hoped I help :)

that is a great suit, but the video quality isn't so good :(
i'd say make one in highquality video and do not host it in youtube. Youtube isn't the best place to showcase the details of the suit since it always downgrades your picture quality.
also please rotate the camera 90 degrees so we can see the suit from staight on..and instead of tilting our heads =P

ONE of the photographers decided to take ALL the videos sideways so they could get the whole suit in. Which was great, until I was making the movie. If I rotated the video it would try to fit it to screen, and it came out stubby.

Taylor- I know, I'm just to tight with money right now with a lot coming up. I wish I had two!

LOL:woot: Being willing to pay for that is a huge compliment but all i did was take Spidersuitmaker's sample from page 695 and mess about with it in Photoshop.

Therfore, there is no high res file just that crappy sample.:csad:
Good news is that if enough people like it, hopefully Spidersuitmaker will adjust his full scale file to match. (and give me a discount for hooking him up with some business :cwink: lol)

That pic is a bit of a fantasy as i'm sure it would never print like that.

Also, i know enough about the design process that i could say the webs/spiders are always added as a seperate photoshop layer so it would be easy to print without them.

the print is actually already stitched up, I used a zigzag and a serger type. You might not like it since I customized it for my body type so there'll be no wrinkling and it will fit snugly to my body.

Hey SpidermanC, I've tried to look up your auction by typing in "Spider Man Costume", or "Spiderman Costume", or "Spider Man Suit", or "Spiderman Suit" and nothing comes up. The only way I can see it is to go through your link. I don't know if anyone else is having the same problem, but if so then you might be missing out on a lot of other potential bidders. I can see many other suits, just not yours. It's wierd. Just wanted to let you know.

I really think it would be worth your while running the dodge tool over the shading tho (bottom red).

And lastly, could you post (small) photos of the different blues you've had printed.

Thanks again :yay:

Not that I don't like your new blue, it's just my original pic is a prime example of how it might never print like that, so best is to pick my fav blue n red from photos then add 3D webs and..ta daa..spidey

you know the thing is is that you can color the suit any way you want but how it turns out on fabric all has to do wh the printer you chose, the pic thats shown was done by a print company i dont use anymore cause the fabric sucked donkey butt and the colors wernt all that the blue looked a little purple and the dark red looked brown.http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x197/disneydad33/001.jpg[/IMG]this pic is how the suit looks when i use the file on the left. see still too dark for my taste.but others seem to like it. should have some red samples at the end of the week hopfully they will be what i want then ill work the blues Many thanks for accepting my request, got some more questions/ideas tho :whatever: ...

ok i know this is a spidey board but i had to share this with you guys

Blonde Football

Out of all the blonde jokes, this one has to be the best!

Football FINALLY makes sense..........

A guy took his blonde girlfriend to her first football game. They had

Great seats right behind their team's bench. After the game, he asked

Her how she liked the experience.

"Oh, I really liked it," she replied, "especially the tight pants and

All the big muscles, but I just couldn't understand why they were

Killing each other over 25 cents."

Dumbfounded, her date asked, "What do you mean?"

"Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it and then for the rest of

The game, all they kept screaming was: 'Get the quarterback! Get the

Quarterback!' I'm like...Helloooooo? It's only 25 cents!!!!

just to let you guys know, ive made a batch of spidey mask frames and lenses, pretty accurate to the movie with 2 layers of mesh for the lenses. just got ten pairs pulled so far. i will post up pics tommorrow when i get to my laptop. going to be selling em on ebay so i'll post the link too. question is, i dont want to rip anyone off and take a pride in my workmanship. what is a fair price for a good set of frames and lenses ? these are cast in rigid urethane resin. sculpted and moulded and cast by me. ive even made a set for a mate that were aluminum filled that when polished looks like steel. by the way if anyone here sees the ebay ad when it goes up and wants a set ,if you mention tyou are a member here i will waive p&p as a discount.

Well guys..I can't get the auction to show up under spiderman on highest prices. If you guys could post the auction link on other forums and stuff I'd appreciate it. I'm not a member on any other forums, so I can't :(

I think the best would be RPF.com forum. Fortunately register window is now opened! So hurry up and good luck!:cwink:

That's what I tried, but this is a little roadbump..

Anyone that wants to post the link there for me is more than welcome though. :)

Actually it's the normal grey webbing I use. Just with no flash used on the camera. The flash always plays havoc with the colours. That's pretty much how my suits look to the eye. I've recently requested my printer try something new in the printing process...which seems to be working nicely. Better colour saturation..giving deeper/richer colours.

I'll be sewing a mask in a few weeks for this style suit. Once its sewn I'll be able to start work on the frames as I'll have a scaled model to make the frames on. :)

Hey Spidey Sutts... Its a shame your seamstress couldnt put that suit together. It is a very nice print... And thanks for sending back that spare mask. It'll help greatly in making the frames for this new suit.

Hey Brad,

Yeah it is a shame to let it go as was looking forward to getting it done, but I guess these things happen. You right the print is really good and the colours were awsome. Still if anyone wants it it needs a good home.

No worries about send the spare mask back, it'll be good to see what you come up with for the new style lenses. :cwink:

yeah sorry for the pics but my digital camera is broken now and i havent been able to get it fixed so i have been using my other camera that isnt so great lol. both sets of frames/lenses are different. the one of the shell in the pic is. like a grey mesh with airbrushed black around it. and the others which are laying beside it are like a reflextive type. i like the grey ones cause they look like the ones on the black suit in the movie but i am including the other pair with it cuase i have no use for it if i have no shell ya know lol haha. are you the one watching it on ebay. i have one watcher and im guessing that would be you.

Cheers Rich. ive got about 9 pairs made up so far. they are just movie style , very similar to the ones you did, i actualy used yours to get the curve right. one thing i did forget to do was to notch the backs for anyone with 3d webbing, but they can be cut out quite easily. i cast them in alwa rigid urethane and then primed and sprayed them to get the colour. for the lenses i used 2 layers of spatter screen with the top layer airbrushed a whitish colour with a dark edge. they look cool if i do say so myself. just been delayed getting pics up. going to do some romita style lenses too for a comic style suit i have planned. i realy want to do an alex ross spidey suit and that has romita esq lenses. think they would be cool in plastic.

hey facelift,
for eye's, I'd say glue them down in the right place first, and then cut holes out after the eyes are on, just so you dont mess up. For shoes, Id go w/ kung fu style shoes off ebay they're like 5$ and pretty much w/ any sole you'll have to sew it in by hand.

The webs don't break just because they're urethane.. They only break easily if made cheap\incorrect!
Schuurke's stretches just as much. Which is more than enough for any reasonible use of the costume.

The suits on my ollie suit stretch great and webs I've gotten from spiderman5 in the past have stretched good. They only break if there's air bubbles in them , so as long as the webs are made correctly w/out airbubbles, they'll stay fine.

That's not a suitcase, it's an old steamer trunk, or an old army footlocker. You can usually find them on eBay for pretty cheap. Here's an example, it's 2 1/2 feet long by 1 ft. 4 inches wide by 1 ft. deep which seems like it would be pretty close to the size of the one in the movie. You might have to re-paint it to make it a perfect match though.

Hey guys,

Hope you all had a good Christmas :-)

I am just posting to let you all know that I still have my S4F Comic / Ultimate Style suit here if anyone is interested in giving it a good home. The colours on the suit are awsome, and it is 75-80% done. I would keep the suit but trying to contructed it has been very, very time consuming and I kind have given up on it. Sad I know. Lol. But if anyone is interested please PM me. The suit is pretty much sewn up, all that needs doing is the zipper, thumbs need attaching and lenses glued on (which come with the suit). You can get the spiders for it from Brad for it as you know :-)

Cheers

Thanks for the kind words about the newspaper article. I am very happy with the way it turned out.. a longtime dream come true.

New Year's Eve was a blast... saw over 100 kids in the 2 hours I was there. The new suit was a hit too... thanks spidersuitmaker and spidey4fun (it has his lenses and spiders on it)! I'll post pics of the new suit soon.

Some have been asking about the shirt I'm wearing (in the pic of me without the mask on the website)... it's actually a bicycling shirt I bought from an Australian seller on eBay... very movie accurate with the spider on the back, etc. It also has a sideways pouch on the lower back (I guess all bicycling jerseys come with that pouch).

Oh, and the pinball machine... it's guarded by a web-slinging super hero, so I wouldn't advise any attempts at taking it away!:cwink:

On the topic of muscle suits; does anyone know if wearing a plain white muscle suit affect the colours on the outside (camera flash etc.) And would three layers of lycra and some 'Nu-Foam' roast you alive:shock

nameless_hero
01-04-2008, 03:12 PM
I wear black under my suits. It helps darken all the light spots when stretched. The Nu Foam muscles do get hot, but the lycra is between you and it so it wicks the moisture pretty well.

aNYspider
01-04-2008, 05:46 PM
Oh yeah the foam muscles do get hot. My muscle suit is mounted on a lycra suit but I've found an extra layer of UnderArmour under that helps keep the muscle suit from absorbing too much sweat as cleaning it is tough.

I agree about wearing the black underneath.

Great advice lads, cheers :yay:

I'm thinking i'll make a black muscle suit, measure the increased bicep/thigh etc, then pinch/stretch the spidey pattern to get a perfect 'made to measure' suit (no wrinkling at the seams)

I'm currently working with SpiderSuitMaker at the moment, to get the colours/shading just right.
Showed him this the other day, not sure which looks better (top half is his original, bottom is my adjustment)

WOW Brad nice work...

Question for all of you....is it hard to put webbing on a suit if it's already put together?

No. I put the webs on after its sewn. You want to stuff it or put it on a mannequin for form, and then attach the webs. This gives the best results when it's worn. Also it'd be harder to sew, and match up stuff if the webs are already glued on there.

Now if the front spider and lenses are already attached, it may be a bit more difficult.

Cheers Rich, if you do any again and you need to sculpt some more, try using sheets of dental wax instead of chavant etc. you get some nice detail in wax and if you run a flame over it gives a nice moulded look and a very smooth finish. also helps to retain the curve of the lens because the wax is stiff until heated. cheers again. loving your iron man matey and that photoshop design i saw is the dogs dangly bits !!

faceshells...well unless it has ventilation holes..don't even bother trying it on with a 1 piece suit, i have a 2 piece suit and oh man..forget it...you definitely need to drill holes in the faceshell...it gets WAY hot in there..

thanks for the advice on the ventilation holes... yes, I will be using it in a 1 piece suit.

What about the question of how long you can go with it on before you get to the point where you just can't take it any more and HAVE to take it off?

Any other suggestions/tricks for comfort will be appreciated! It'll be a little while before I get my shell put in.

in the movie they wore something like a ski mask under the faceshell. I'd say try that. I used to use a face shell but after having it on for only like 20 mins my face was pouring sweat. Ski mask wouldn't make it cooler, but it would help sorb moisture.

i really would recommend you getting a 2 piece suit if you want to put on the faceshell. however i believe yetter wears a faceshell with a 1 piece suit, and believe his shell is pretty light..

I've gone somewhere between 4-6 hours at one time. It all depends upon the conditions though. It'll be hot at first but you adjust after awhile. Vent holes are a must. I would create as many as possible without jeapordizing the structure of the shell. For additional comfort, cut out a coozie or a thin sponge and glue a small portion inside where your forehead is. That makes a difference for me.

I thought I'd use some of my test webbing to make a black mask. The webbing is a little too dark... but still looks pretty cool.

Do you use Yetter's shells?

Is the sponge used to absorb moisture or for forehead cushioning? (I hate to ask, but what's a coozie?)

May I also ask where you place the vent holes and how big some of them are?

Thanks to all for your help on the face shell questions!

how about using a sanitary towel....yeah i know gross , but we are talking a nice fresh one. they are very absorbant and thin and should be good for the forehead area to absorb sweat etc. just a thought.

Hey whatever works.

As for the vent holes I use a dremel and a 1/8" bit. I create two for the nose and four rows around the mouth. Basically just strategically placing them to allow max ventilation. LOL.. Maybe its great you dont know what a 'coozie' is but they are the foam insulators you cany just about anywhere that you put pop and beer in.

Yetter, how do you have your shell and mask attached? Are they lock-in frames or just glued to the mask?

Hello guys,

Some time ago i posted a message on this board as I was looking to get hold of materials to start making a spidey suit.

A guy called Benjamin Yetter sold me a faceshell, eyeframes and a disk with the file to print. I believe his nickname on this board is KJ_Shortie, though I'm not 100% sure about that.

We are now a couple of weeks later and I still haven't received any of the goods. Does anyone of you have any experience with this guy?

If anybody can help me to get hold of a faceshell and some eyeframes, then please let me know.

I'll keep you posted.

Peter

His name is actually SpidermanYetter on here. I've bought a faceshell from him twice now, with no problems. Just got my second one in the mail today. Shipping was kind of slow, but mail is just like that.:csad:
