Wow, now I remember why I like Batman less than most comic characters.... too grim and gritty! :brucebat:
Batman22, steps to consider taking (since you generously offered some to me):
1. Take a deep breath.
2. Find a sense of humor somewhere.
3. Use proper english and spelling when posting.
4. Repeat steps 1, 2, & 3 as necessary.
I already said that Stan Lee was the person who came up with the intellectual concept (at least that's what most people believe). I don't know if he "owns" any part of the Spider-man rights (most creators back in the day did not own the character, the company did).
What I was responding to was the "copying" idea... and the costume (which this thread is all about) was originally drawn by Jack Kirby (and his work was scrapped in favor of Ditko).
And yes, we are all copying other people all the time. Some are worthy of copying and some aren't. Find a NICE person to copy and the world will be a better place.

thanks will do. although there is nothing wrong with my sense of humor. it is hard to get tone from this thread, and to me you were attacking me. SO if you were being sarcastic it did not come across that way. Plus I do not know you, nor you me, so I would know your personality nor your sense of humor.
Although I did like the fact about the artists.
From what I recall marvel allowed Stan Lee to keep the rights of most of his creations. But it could be because without Stan Lee there would be no Marvel.
DC on the other hand wanted to buy and have all the rights to all their heros. I think they bought Superman for $100.00, it has not been to far gone that THe creators family just started to get money for their fathers/grandfathers creations.

:brucebat:
I understand completely. I definitely was not attacking you in any way (nobody but Taylor deserves that kind of treatment). I was merely pointing out some things that others may not have thought about (at least not recently).
Most of my comments are made in jest... not necessarily funny (that's in the eye of the beholder), but I try.
And, truth be told, prior to the Spidey movies, the Batman movie with Nicholson and Keaton was my favorite superhero movie. :brucebat:
I remember the news stories about the Superman creators' families getting some more money. They truly deserve it.
I am a huge Stan Lee fan from way back in the day. I guess just how much he contributed has been open for debate over the past 20 years ... some people suggest that he would give a vague idea to the artists and let them flesh out the stories. I prefer to think of him as "The Man" and he did indeed make Marvel what it is today.
All joking aside for another moment... I truly am amazed at the artistic talent represented by all of you here who are making costumes or costume parts. I have little to no talent in this area (so maybe I should stop posting here??) and am not looking to make things on my own, but enjoy seeing "what's out there" and buying items from time to time.
Hey guys look at this SM3 prop I found. Look at the inside of the boot;it's red. Wouldn't that mean that the pattern was in fact printed onto red\blue fabric, not just white?
http://www.screenused.com/images/spiderman3/red_boots_4.jpg
Also, I know that in all the auctions it said that the ends of the fabric were sewn around in order to keep it from fraying, but if you look at this picture, you can see some blue is still above the boot's webs.. that wouldn't be there if they serged the edge. Which leads me to think they didn't sew this one and just left where it was serged to connect the blue and red pieces?
http://www.screenused.com/images/spiderman3/red_boots_8.jpg
Maybe they made print on both sides of material.
...why would they do that?
we never saw the insides in the movie

Hey does anyone have SM3 or 2 costume pieces for sale? Preferably with COA. I'm looking for 1 red and 1 blue piece, or a piece of red a blue connected.
Also:
- Still looking for a pair of hard curved frames, with or without lenses.
- Spidey costume is still for sale.
Please PM me if you have either for sale.

yes finally someone hit the nail on the head
they did print on both side of the fabric but not the suit pattern but rather a mirror image comprised of pink for the red and paines grey for the purple areas(yes purple not blue). trust me on this i have first hand knowlede of this(no not from "the real spider" although chris is a good friend)as far as my knowledge goes that remaines propriotary information. they told me the hardest part was getting the backside to line up to the front on the second pass through the heat press.

Uh oh, double sided prints just became the new bar for the 'perfect Spidey suit'!
I'm guessing that that would give richer colours right?

yeah, printing both sides only wastes time and money, the color fades on both sides when stretched. the movie suit was done with blue and red lycra the printed with the shading and bricks, like Shrukkes suit.

Ooh, shelf-cover and foamies right?
What a magical, low cost combo.
I did the same thing when Batman Begins came out :p
I just used a wetsuit though... BAD IDEA for florida :(
Either way, looks good particularly considering the materials used. can't wait for progress.
How much of the armor do you plan on doing like that?

Spider 3 had a thicker or heavier material than 1, and 2. I remember there was one scene where Tobey's back issue came into play, he was complaining the suit had been more tightened than the last ones, As I recall they told him that the suit had been modified, to reduce wrinkles. I remember the suit was a lot tighter, as for the Black suit it was tighter than the red and blue, I recall after parting from it my circulation around my waist had been cut off. I was numb for like 3 or 5 min, as for the color in 3 it was set to be darker colors.

On which suit, 1, 2, or 3. Spider 3 was totally different,
As for spider 2, spidersuitmaker you did hit the nail right on the head. I have heard rumors, when Sony switched printers for 3, They had to double the material, all I know that it was a lot hotter, in the 3rd movie suit, and the colors were a lot darker than the previous ones.

Chris

Anyways, I've been working on making my own frames\lenses..I think I've got the lenses down. Don't mind the crappy frame, it was a quick sculpt in clay painted black just to give the general idea :woot:. Tell me which one you guys prefer? (for those of you wondering; the square you see is not Schuurke's lens material.)

Here's a template someone did for me on paper. It's for a 5'11 person tho so 5'7 would be about 70 inches. It's standard spidey shape with regards to the weight spec but that's the beauty of stretchy lycra :cwink:

I just measured the pattern width by length and its 45 inches x 90 inches.
The dye sublimator I found in my area gave me this formula for calculating the cost to get it printed"
Length x Width / 144 x $3.50
Does that sound about right?
Also, a few more questions...
1. What's the material for the see-through white lenses
2. What type/strength/density urethane do people use for the molded webs?
Thanks!

Part of the problem is you should paint the understructure sand colored.
Try spraying with a can of texture paint, you can get it in a sandstone finish. That will cover half your battle.
Hope that helps.

I know how you must feel, sometimes people just cant be assed, most of the time specially the big [players are just holding it back as they don't want to be seen giving it out for free.
I have acchieved lenses with one layer and that was cool if you've seen my pics, its and shiney metal fabric which i got from some speaker grills. The best qulaity though came from a really expensive speakers which i had access to only becuase i worked where they had lots of that so, it might not be so feesable. Today i picked oup some wire foam mesh from an art store.so methods-
1) airbrushed acetate/mesh or mesh fabric
2)metal/fabric/coloured fabric(wondering what this is-"spray painted mesh" This was one of the very first methods-
3) acetate/mesh/window tint
Thats three layers, 2 layers works just aswell. Oh yea excuse my spelling, sometimes i just cant be asked to fix it up or even spell check it.

I First started out with fabric that turned out cool but low visibility, maybe 67%. Next was a mesh but it kept only 79% visibility. Next was mirror type film or tint, was nice but it fogged up too much and application could be a killer, and dark areas hindered visibility. (that reminds me if anyone here is interested in plastic I have a lot for lens, also have mirror tint pm me if interested). I agree a lot of people on here like to keep it hush hush lol area 51. lol.

Hey everyone. I just wanted to share that I've listed my spidey suit and my muscle suit on ebay. Unfortunately I need the money so I've started consolidating costumes.
I know my spidey may not be up to the amazing super suits I've seen from some of the folks here, but it's decent and has brought me a couple years of fun. Plus it would be pretty easy to mod too :)
The muscle suit is in good shape but could use a little re-gluing to the undersuit. I'm a small guy though so if you're bigger than I then you may just want to put them on a new undersuit.

Hey congrats! They are quite a prize. I loved working on mine. I'd advise to use your spiders from Schuurke's. He's casted it in the correct shore of urethane to stretch correctly with his size of suit. Good luck!

If you ask me.. I think that they actually made a good job on the web slinging for Spiderman in the movies. I think that If they would have given Spiderman a Web-Blaster like he has in the Comic-Books it probably wouldn't have looked well especially since he shoots his web from both hands.

Hey guys, back again.
I am having little luck between price, and skill for someone to sewn my costume. Alot of local shops are afriad to work with the pattern as it is a Spideyplanet one.
Would it be possible if anyone here can sew it? Or point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
Oh man.. I bought my kit awhile back with the expectation of simply getting someone else to sew it up for me..:whatever: After awhile with no luck from tailors or board members, I just decided to buy a serger and sew it myself. His pattern's a piece of work...:whatever: I might be able to sew it up for you.. how much are you looking to pay?

Hi all after much thinking I have decided that after I make one last set of webbings spiders and frames for a customer I am done making them till I have more time and money to devote to get cad files made and metal molds cut. The webbings and spiders were designed for me at work in our 3d modeling department All the molds are made out of silicone and I have never had a problem casting them and every urethane I have ever used has worked. I also may want to part with my muscle suit mold as well if anyone has any interest please PM me and I can send pix

Not to change the subject about the Carnage suit or anything but I think it would be nice for Sony to bring out Carnage as one of the villians in one of the Spiderman Movies that would be awsome I would definetley love to see that happen for simple reasons because he looks Deadly and acts deadly too ;)

I dunno...Carnage is cool...but he is an even more sadistic and amoral character than Venom. At least Venom lives by a moral code (his own). The only thing Carnage lives by, is blood lust. He is a stone cold killer. I don't see him fitting well in a PG-13 franchise. His character would be diluted, or the Spidey film franchise would lose audience over an R rating. It would be tough to do. But it would be cool to see...if they don't screw him up like they did Venom.

You know what I actually never thought about that your right in that sense i seriously doubted that Sony would actually turn Spiderman into a R movie just because Carnage is a Blood Luster and your right that the Spiderman Francise would loose lots of money on that but since they already brought Venom out Venom of course is contected to Carnage even if venom of course has to be played by someone else of Course (Since Topher Died) the only thing that matters about Venom is that he already knows the identity of Spiderman so the Symbiote already knows everything including Peter Parkers Girlfriend Mary Jane and Dr. Conners has a piece of that Symbiote left. Although I wouldn't want to see carnage in 4 maybe 5 or 6 would be great maybe Carnage should be the last Villian in the Spiderman movies. I guess we will have to find out and see.

I herd that If if Sam Rami doesn't dirrect the 4th movie somehow he will still be involved in it some how beacuse at that time of making the 4th movie (Movie hit's theaters May 12, 2010) he will directing a movie called The Hobbit from the Lord of the Rings. That means that the Actors may have to change. Tobey Maguire mentioned in a article saying that he would still return even if Director Sam Rami doesnt direct the 4th movie. I thought they were all really great in all 3 movies and Sam Rami has done a great job directing all 3 movies although There were a scene in the 3rd movie that I didnt like and I thought was trash and shouldn't have been there because it was too Kinky when Peter Parker was walking down the street and he started to do alittle dance near a store that shouldn't have never been there. But like all of us we all have didn't likes and opinions there will be some that will like a movie and others that won't. Your right though about the Batman Movies they were trash. I cant wait until I recieve my Spidey4Fun Suits from Brad. I ordered a Black Urethane Spider Suit and a Red/Blue Urethane Spider Suit from him. He does amazing suits. ;) I give him alot of credit as well as everyone here on the Boards that have done amazing suits.
Hey Spiderman0884, I want to buy those suits to Brad too. How much does it cost?

It has never been a secret that Spidey4fun makes and sells suits. As far as putting the sale information publicly, wouldn't that bother anyone from Sony who might be passing by? I know people are edgy with prop replications to the point that they will sue over anything.
Just e-mail him. His e-mail is spidey4fun@hotmail.com

So why not email or PM me?? I've read some of your posts. You're a very informed fellow. This was interesting...
The rights didn't revert. Marvel reacquired them (reverting comes from a lapse of use, acquisition is through monetary means). But that is unimportant. And I never once said that Hulk was a big success. I would like for you to find the post where I said the exact words "Hulk was a big success." I merely said that it was profitable and succeeded in making back more than its budget (and it did). That counts as successful (from a business standpoint). Now a booming success is not the same as general (mild) success.
Do you have connections with Marvel or are you just very well read?
Brad.

I just do my best to remain aware of what is going on both within my hobbies and throughout the world in general. I read the news paper, forums, blogs and hipster magazines (Kitchen Sink, Skyscraper). The Hulk stuff is more public though. You can read up on that and links to such statements, on Wikipedia. They are getting better at linking sources. I've learned that Wikipedia, like most things, must be taken with a grain of salt. You see what they have to say, and do further research from that point. Anyways i'll certainly be sending you a PM sir. Oh and I don't work for Marvel. That would be fun though...

I think they will go with the same suit as 3.
They had a lot of issues that took them until spidey 3 to get fixed, I don't think they will change the suit or colors, even tho 3 was darker colors.

I checked out that Thai Toku site. That was pretty fun stuff. It was nice to see the origins of some of my favorite childhood super hero franchises (the Power Rangers). But it was just as nice to see those well done Spider-Man suits. That site even had some photos of the old 1970's Toei made Spider-Man show.

I mapped out the original file and with alot of trial and error found some filters to make the bricks. Still needs some tweaking but it does match EXACTLY! This is the next step in 'Making the perfect Spidey suit'.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, had a comment from Brad that brought a tear to my eye :yay:
I have done all the red sections: Chest, Leg, Arm, Hand, Thumb etc..
Have not done any blue yet (the legs will take bloomin ages)
Once I have done the blues i will get back to the 'Black spidey suit'. The grumpy screen printer guy down the road from me said finish it all then come back. :whatever: I gonna concentrate on the red/blue first (sorry guys) but the black suit will be the real breakthrough in spidey costume making.
The bricks are a seperate layer. Don't know how to save a jpeg with that 'chequered background' photoshop does when there's nothing there, but it is a mesh you can see through. In the pic below, i just selected a few sections and went mad with the colour sliders. It is surpisingly simple to do but I can't give away the technique just yet.
If printing on white lycra, you would need to make a red background (like the pic below). I have another plan tho :cwink:
You also need to make a slight muscle shading layer (see my 10sec atempt of orange round the shoulder)
Then add the any colour of bricks and and the webbing guide.
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/4760/armgridtestcopyfp6.jpg
The blue is original and note how it all lines up perfect :word:
Does look a bit 'Zelda:Wind Waker' at the mo but i'm working on making it a bit more weathered.
Any questions are welcome
