Welcome to the One Earth
The Marvel/DC RPG Season I

Gamemasters: Carnage27, Byrd Man

This is a universe of good and evil. Since the beginning of time these two forces have raged against each other in a never ending struggle for supremacy. Across the galaxy wars have been fought to gain the upper hand, tearing apart the world of Urgrund into the worlds of New Genesis and Apokolips a millennia ago, creating a rift between the New Gods.

The Guardians of the Universe, believing it was their job to protect peace in the cosmos created the Green Lantern Corps to use willpower to drive back the darkness.

But evil and violence cannot always be repelled. The Skrull-Thanagar War threatened to engulf the galaxy, taking the entire power of the Corps to hold back the tide. The conflict continued until the world-eater Galactus devoured key planets on each side, destabilizing both combatant’s forces, and decimating the Corps.

Eventually, the planet Krypton was destroyed, but one known survivor was sent towards a small blue planet orbiting the sun designated Sol. Earth. A planet inhabited by the dominant race of homo-sapien. A primitive race compared to some, but with the capacity for greatness.

Even then, this world was not safe from similar conflicts that plagued the stars, the greatest of which came in the middle of humanity’s 20th recorded century. Adolf Hitler and his Nazi regime threatened to blanket the world powered on by the Spear of Destiny and the HYDRA deep science division.

But the tide was turned by human ingenuity and bravery. A scrawny kid from Brooklyn is transformed into Captain America, and he leads a group of heroes into the fray of World War II which includes the likes of The Flash, Wildcat, Union Jack, Doctor Fate, and Green Lantern. They were known as The Invaders, and they almost single-handedly turned the tide of the war.

But at the tail end of the war, Cap was lost on a mission to destroy one of HYDRA’s secret facilities, and in a response to losing their secret weapon, President Harry Truman dropped 2 atomic bombs on Japan, bringing the war to a close. The majority of The Invaders returned home to America, forming the Justice Society with other costume adventurers. They spent the next two decades stopping crime across the country, until they felt they were no longer needed, and nothing more than old men attempting to relive past glories.

Around this same time, the human race enters its next stage of evolution in earnest, creating mutants all over the globe. This new development, and humanity’s response, will lead two men to create a safe haven for the new sub-species, and will eventually drive them to polar opposite sides.

As time went on, Earth continued to change. Kal-El, Krypton’s last son, arrives on the planet and is found and adopted by Jonathon and Martha Kent in Smallville, Kansas. In Gotham, the Wayne family walks down a darkened alley, and Bruce Wayne is the only one to leave it alive, his parents gunned down. In a garage in California, Tony Stark tinkers with one of his father’s cars, testing his mechanical genius. Hal Jordan dreams of flying planes as he watches the night sky.

Two decades later, the time is now. Earth has become a world filled with cynicism and fear, and the universe is as dangerous as ever. The time is ripe for new heroes to rise and lead a desperate populace. In Metropolis, Superman soars in the sky, protecting all those that need it. On the planet Asgard, a prideful god is banished to Midgard. A teenager swings through the skyscrapers of New York in red and blue, the people calling him “Spider-man”. In Gotham, the Batman wages a war against organized crime and corruption. A war that threatens to drive the city even deeper down the rabbit hole. A group of young mutants trained by Charles Xavier begins to protect humanity from the threat of the Brotherhood. In Keystone City, a new scarlet speedster stops crime with blinding speed. And a woman from a forgotten land arrives in the World of Men.

This is the time of The One Earth RPG.

RULES

You may have two characters
You may choose any character from both universes, but no custom or Amalgam characters such as Darkclaw or Super Soldier will be allowed.
All characters can interact with each other, it is the same universe.
No Killing. Unnamed, faceless NPC's may be killed, but not major characters, or taken characters. Someone else may want to take up the character, or they may be important to another story.
You can go anywhere within the galaxy except planets already known to be destroyed, such as Krypton, although if you have the ability you may visit the ruins or asteroids.
You are your character, so act like it. Talk like them, use their dialogue. Do not exaggerate your powers, or pop-up here and there without explanation. BE Your character.
Several stories can be going at once, and you have the freedom to interact with other characters.
You must post at least once every ten days, though it is preferred that you post more. If you go ten days without a post, your character is up for grabs.
Be serious, no slander, or impractical actions from your character. Example; "I found a crystal and now I own the world! You're all my slaves!"
If a major character is applied for, there will be a 24 hour period for other applicants. If there are multiple applications, the GM's will decide who gets the character. Less popular characters can be given out on a first come, first server basis.
Due to inactivity and uncertainty, all players from the previous season will have to re-apply for their character(s). You may copy/paste posts from a prior Season to use as sample posts. However, you will still have to re-apply with the new applications.
And of course, all regular rules of the Hype apply.
Have fun.

One Earth: The Marvel/DC RPG

Character you would like to play:

J’onn J’onzz, The Martian Manhunter

Powers:

Super Strength, Super Speed, Enhanced Senses, Increased Endurance, Invisibility, Intangibility, Shapeshifting, Telepathy, Healing Factor, Flight, “Martian Vision”

Brief history of the character:

I, J’onn J’onzz, was born roughly 1000 Earth years ago on Ma'aleca'andra, the planet you call “Mars”. I had a family there, my wife M'yri'ah and my beloved daughter, K’hym, and was well loved by the people I served as a Manhunter (roughly the equivalent of an Earth Federal Marshal). Then, the Curse struck. H’ronmeer’s Curse, named for the Martian God of Fire, Light, Life and Death, was a psionic plague, traveling like literal wildfire throughout the telepathic Martian community. It filled the mind with thoughts of fire, the greatest single fear of any Martian, to the point of causing physical combustion. In order to save myself, I had to close my mind to those around me, a decision forcing me to watch my wife and daughter die as they failed to do the same. For many a year afterwards, I wandered Mars alone, the sole undertaker of a planet wide graveyard.

I was brought to Earth in November of 1955 by accident when an experiment of Dr. Saul Erdel’s went awry. Dr. Erdel, shocked by my alien appearance, died from heart failure soon after, leaving me alone, a stranger in a strange land. My feelings on this were mixed. On one hand, I was terrified at my new surroundings, on the other, I was elated at the opportunity for interpersonal contact once more. Disguising myself as an Earthling, I spent years traveling this planet, using my abilities in secret to aid any I came across.

In September of 1995, my path crossed with that of Professor Charles Xavier. He was a mutant, a species that was considered the next stage in the evolution of Homo sapiens, and as such, he and his small group of protogés, were feared by “normal” humans. This fear by those who do not expect or understand them was what originally made me sympathetic to their cause. Actually meeting Charles is what made me see a kindred spirit in the man. Though not a mutant myself, I became an ally to him and his team, and eventually joined his “X-Men” and took a position as a teacher at his School for Gifted Youngsters.

Today, though my true family on Mars is long gone from this existence, I have found a new home, and a new family among these fellow outcasts. I am J’onn J’onzz, Martian Manhunter, X-Man.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character:

I love the character, he’s my favorite fictional character ever, to be honest, and I’ve been itching to play him again.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story:

As of right now, I plan on having him help establish the X-Men, and do some soul-searching of his own. I have some other plans for later on.

What can you bring to this game?:

Fleas.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech:

Bold Green

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG:

At least once, possibly more.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):

“You must look deep within yourself, Anna.” I say to the young woman seated across from me. I do not pry without permission, but nonetheless, I can sense the apprehension and fear radiating from her mind. “You must calm the voices in your mind. Do not pay them heed. Focus on yourself.”

“Ah… ah’m trying, Mr. J’onzz.” Anna Marie stutters, her eyes squeezed closed as she fights the myriad of mindscapes that clash with hers.

This is not the so-called “Danger Room” class that Logan teaches, but this private session is not without its peril. Anna Marie, otherwise known as “Rogue”, has a terrifying mutant ability. Skin to skin contact with her causes a reactionary response within her biology that absorbs the psyche and abilities of the other person. She discovered this when her first boyfriend attempted to kiss her. It nearly killed him, and almost destroyed her mind. Due to the way the transfer is both physiological and psionic, Charles, Henry and I all agreed that I would be the best to try and help her control the ability she sees as a curse.

The transfer happens unconsciously, as a reflex. Given her nervousness at the time of first manifestation, and the continued stress and worrying in subsequent accidental contacts, I am convinced that it is a defensive mechanism, triggered by her unknowing fear of herself and others. To eliminate such fear, we sit alone in a small, dimly lit room without furnishing, and I begin each session teaching her meditation and calming methods. This is our third such session.

“Anna, just relax. You are doing well, but you know you must relax. Open your eyes for a moment.” She complies, brushing her hair, auburn with a white streak, from her face. “Sit up straight, but not too rigidly. You must be comfortable and focused.”

“That’s hard t’ do.”

“I know.” I assume the posture myself, “Do as I do.” She mimics my position and closes her eyes gently as I do. “We are going to make mental contact again. Are you ready?”

“Yes.”

I enter her mind, scanning her thoughts and finding where she is focusing. I join here in that portion of her mind. My scans of Rogue reinforce my hypothesis. Her psyche is a fearful place, a mindscape’s equivalent of a haunted house. Fragments of minds float here and there, literally moaning and wailing as they go. I marvel, not for the first time, at the girl’s mental strength. Lesser minds would have gone insane long ago. It makes me confident that she can eventually control her gift.

One Earth: The Marvel/DC RPG

Character you would like to play: Steve Rogers/Captain America

Powers: Captain America was turned into America’s one and only super-soldier during World War II. The serum that changed the 90 pound weakling into one of the greatest human specimens of all time granted Steve with superhuman strength, agility, speed, durability, dexterity, and stamina. Steve can also heal broken bones in a day or two, and is capable of shrugging off gunshot wounds or stab wounds in a few hours.

On top of these abilities, Cap is a master martial artist, marksman, strategist, and tactician. Steve is also a master shield combatant using his Vibranium shield.

Brief history of the character: Steve Rogers was a 90-pound, asthmatic weakling when Japan launched a sneak attack on the United States naval base at Pearl Harbor. When America joined World War II, Steve wanted nothing more than to join the army and fight for his country as his father had. Unfortunately, Steve’s frailties caused him to be rejected time after time.

But on one of his many trips, and rejections, to the recruiting office, Steve caught the eye of Dr. Abraham Erskine, who was the lead scientist for America’s super soldier project. Erskine drafted Steve into the program due to his heart and will, instead of physical abilities, believe it is the man inside the serum actually brings out.

Thanks to Erskine’s serum, as well as Howard Stark’s technical wizardry, Steve was turned into Captain America, and was supposed to be the first in America’s line of super-soldiers. Unfortunately, an agent of HYDRA, a Nazi deep science division, infiltrated the procedure and killed Erskine, leaving Steve as the one and only serum subject.

But all was not lost. With the help of a young soldier named Nick Fury, Captain America put together a group of super-human warriors in order to stop HYDRA and Hitler, who now possessed the Spear of Destiny. They brought together The Flash Jay Garrick, Green Lantern Allan Scott, Wildcat Ted Grant, as well as the android Human Torch, Union Jack, the first Hourman, and the first Sandman. Together they made The Invaders, a group of super-powered individuals whose goal was to find and stop the Nazi’s paranormal and super-powered threats. Along with the super team, they were supported by the Howling Commandos, led by Fury.

While in Europe, Fury also assigned a young man, James Buchanan Barnes to Cap as a side-kick of sorts. In reality, the young man was trained as a black-ops soldier in order to fulfill missions the government deemed to controversial for Cap to do. Even though Steve was wary at having an under-aged soldier on the team, the two quickly became friends.

Near the end of the European theater of the war, Captain America and The Invaders split up in order to complete separate missions. Steve took Bucky, Hourman, Sandman, and Union Jack along with the Howling Commandos on a mission to destroy HYDRA’s last weapons facility in the Arctic. The mission turned out to be a bloodbath, with Hourman and Union Jack falling in battle, as well as Bucky apparently dying in an ice fissure. In the end, Captain America was also lost in the ice after intentionally crashing a prototype plane piloted by HYDRA’s leader Johan Schmidt aka the Red Skull.

Due to Steve’s enhanced physiology, he was cryogenically frozen by the low temperatures instead of freezing to death, and now he waits in a frozen sleep, ready to join the 21st century.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: I’ve always enjoyed Captain America, but in recent years he’s become more and more a favorite of mine. He’s got the indomitable will and iron-strong morals of Superman while also being a man outside of his own time, transported to our time by the war that created him.

What are your plans for the character? Do you have a story: Cap is the Marvel Universe’s moral center. He’s necessary for a game like this. Also, I’ve got very long term plans for him. His unfreezing, introduction to modern society, his first team out of the ice, and some other great stories I have planned with other characters.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Franklin Gothic Medium Bold

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: Depends on what else is going on, but I’ll post at least once every other day.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):

A grenade explodes in front of me, shrapnel slamming against my shield as I bring it in front of me. I keep it there, pushing up the beach as machine gun fire rips through the air, and soldiers fall left and right behind me. But we charge on, not caring what happens to the individual, only worried about the mission before us.

I reach a sand dune and throw myself behind it, my men doing the same for cover. The machinegun nest we’ve been tasked with taking out is only one hundred yards away, but it might as well be a mile. The fire coming from the enemy is heavy, and I know the majority of the men hunkered down beside me won’t be making it back to the women the love and the families they’ve left behind.

But I also know that if we don’t succeed, if this mission is a failure, their families’ very way off life will be threatened by the greatest evil this world has ever seen.

They all look to me for their next order, but the fear in their eyes betrays that they know what’s to come.

“Okay. You all know what’s coming. You all know what we have to do. It’s not gonna be pretty, and most of us probably won’t make it back. But remember this, after today, your names will be legend. Every man, woman, and child in America and around the world will thank you for their freedom and safety. Remember that as you go over this hill and you will live forever.”

I feel their confidence grow, and I don’t waste any more time. I push myself over the dune, my shield leading the way, gleaming like the flag.

One Earth: The Marvel/DC RPG

Character you would like to play:

Katherine "Kitty" Pryde, Shadowcat

Powers:

Has the power to go intangible, therefore phasing through solid materials. Through this power she is also able to walk on air, and take other people she touches intangible as well. However the more people she attempts this with, the more concentration it takes.

Brief history of the character:

Kitty was 15 when her mutant power manifested itself during a nightmare. She fell through the bed, and her second floor room and landed in the kitchen. Her parents, Carmen and Theresa Pryde; specifically her father Carmen worried about her. He was the son of a Nazi concentration camp survivor and with the persecution of mutants hitting a swell, he wanted his daughter to be safe from that. He reached out to Professor Xavier, and Kitty has been welcomed into the school with open arms. She is in her second year at the school and excelling in most of her classes.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character:

She's my favorite Marvel character and I had fun playing her in the previous OU game. Also, the X-Men stuff we are working on intrigues me.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story:

I would like to have her advance from an inexperienced student to a full-fledged team member, over time. At this point she's basically going to be tagging along with Wolverine, calling herself his sidekick despite him.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech:

Verdana, this color purple

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG:

As many as I need to

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):

Man, I don't think Dad knew what he was throwing me into. I love it here, but safe isn't necessarily the operating word most of the time. Between worrying about the Brotherhood and just your standard run of the mill white supremacist bigots, we spend a lot of time in self defense classes in the Danger Room.

The professors are awesome. My favorites are definitely Mr. J'onzz and Mr. Logan. Mr. J'onzz has definitely helped me the most with my abilities, since he can phase too. I'm excited, because today is my first solo run through the Danger Room. Dr. McCoy's on standby to bail me out if I need it, but hopefully I don't.

I step into the room and the lights dim for effect. A split second later and a bar comes hurtling down from the ceiling at me. Instinctively I brace for the impact, and close my eyes. Nothing hits me, and I breathe a sigh of relief when I realize how lucky I just got that my ability kicked in instinctively. I open my eyes and I'm staring in the middle of block of metal. I focus a little and allow myself to drop below the floor. I can see the mechanical workings of the traps that are set in the floor, there are pits and spikes and all sorts of dangerous things.

I pop back above the surface in time to watch a ball of flame pass through my body. Yikes, they sure don't pull punches here! I can see the end of the room, along with the button to end the session about ten feet in front of me. Mr. Logan's on the other side of that two way mirror, running the room. Which means even though the room really can't see me, he can. So it comes as no surprise when a wall shoots up in front of me, right before the target. Easy peezy, its a wall.

Or so I thought, as I started to phase into it and my arm started to throb in pain. Crapola. It's gotta be Nth metal. Focus Kitty, focus. I push, but the more I try the more it hurts. My head feels like it is going to explode, and my arm is burning, as I get close to my shoulder. I try to go a little further and white spots dance in my eyes, and everything goes black.

When I wake up I'm in the infirmary. Darnit. Seems all of the teachers are here too. Great. I look like a putz.

"I'm sorry. Guess I wasn't ready."

"Nonsense Miss Pryde. You did admirably. You should have heard Professor Logan when you hit the switch. Even with my vocabulary, some of those words were new to my ears."

I let the words sink in. I hit the switch? How? I look at Dr. McCoy's face, but it's hard to tell if he's lying under all that blue fur, but why would he be?

"I did it? YES!!!"

One Earth: The Marvel/DC RPG

Character you would like to play: Batman/Bruce Wayne

Powers: None

Brief history of the character:
Bruce Wayne was born into a wealthy family in Gotham City. When he was just a boy, he watched his parents murder at the hands of an unknown mugger. As he watched his parent's blood run down the city streets, he made a pledge that night. He would do anything it too to avenge their murder.

Bruce left home as a teen and traveled the world, studying with the likes of master detective Henri Ducard in Paris, skilled hunter Sergi Kravinoff in Africa, and the blind martial artist master Stick in Asia. All told, Bruce spent nearly ten years abroad. He returned to Gotham last year, ready to begin his quest for vengeance. The only thing he needed was a symbol. After a disastrous first night out, Bruce realized he needed something to strike fear into the heart of criminals. That was when a bat came crashing through his study. Remembering his childhood fear of bats, he adopted the animal as a symbol and became Batman.

Now a year later, Batman continues to wage a war on the Gotham underworld, the corrupt police and politicians, and the growing number of outlandish rogues.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character:
I like to think I'm one of the biggest Batman fan on the board, so I have a love and knowledge of the character. He's my favorite comic book character and I still have unused storylines from my run of World of Heroes I want to use.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story: I have more than a few stories I want to tell with Batty. Everything from fighting Joker and Marvel baddies to the introduction of Robin.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Trebuchet MS and bold for Batman/non-bolded for Bruce

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: Much as needed.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):

I gently lift up the window pane and step lightly inside the Ace Chemical plant. Working over dealers and drug addicts for the past two nights has led me here, the point of origin for Gotham's latest drug epidemic.

For the past three months, Gotham City junkies all over the city have been dropping dead from overdoses. The heroin they've been shooting up has been purer than anything they've ever had. The GCPD really doesn't care. As far as they're concerned, who cares if another junkie drops dead?

I creep through the shadows of the plant, activating the ultraviolet lenses in my cowl as I approach the plant's chemical vats. There's fresh residue all over. The plant has been inactive for over ten years now. I rub my finger through the vat and get residue on my finger tip. That should be more than enough sample for the computers in my suit and in the cave. It takes just a few seconds to comb through the database before the results show up on my HUD.
Residue Result:

75% Diacetylmorphine aka Heroin
Street name: "Up, Up, and Away!"

15% Inositol
Primarily use: cutting agent

10% Unknown Substance
No matches with known chemicals in database

The results are interesting to say the least. Three quarters pure heroin is more than enough to kill almost all the junkies in the city and tri-county area who grew up with shots of heroin cut down to ten and five percent. But it's the unknown substance that interest me the most. My databases are connected to the drug and chemical databanks of the DEA and ATF. There's no known chemical compound that they don't have.

I can work on that later. For now, I need to keep climbing the ladder. I've taken out most of the street dealers and middlemen, now it's time to take out the source.

The sound of a door opening a few hundred feet away draws my attention. I meld back into the shadows as three men enter the room. One of them towers over the others while one wears a three-piece suit and the third is dressed like a cowboy with a lasso on his hip. I deactivate the UV lenses and boot up the facial recognition software.

"Can we go get some burgers?" The large man asks his two smaller partners.

Identified:
Raymond Bloch aka Ray Block aka Ox
Three arrests for assault & armed robbery
Known associates: Daniel Brito & Jackson Brice
Known method(s) of attack: Brute strength

"We got a job to do, Ox. Stop thinking with your stomach all the time!" The man in the suit says.

Identified:
Daniel Brtio aka Fancy Dan
Arrests for shoplifting, kidnapping, & racketeering
Known associates: Raymond Bloch & Jackson Brice
Known method(s) of attack: Guns, martial arts

"Wish ya'll would pipe the hell down!"The cowboy grumbles. "It's three in the goddamn morning!"

Identified:
Jackson Brice aka Montana
Arrests for armed robbery & kidnapping
Known associates: Raymond Bloch & Daniel Brito
Known method of attack(s): Lasso, knives

Three of them to the one of me. The one called Ox might be a problem. Pulling a small pad from my belt, I stick it to my glove and creep through the dark as they continue to talk.

"Willie got pinched last night by the cops."

"Wasn't the cops that did it. It was that freak Batman. The cops were just on clean-up duty."

"Damn. Willie didn't know this is where we make the H is it?"

"Naah, we always used Sam as a buffer. He came here to pick the s*** up and then pass it on to Willie and the others."

What they don't know is that Sam Stephens is hanging from a light pole in the East End, unconscious with a broke arm.

"Well, if the Batman comes...I'll be ready. I don't give a damn what he can do. Nobody can beat the Ox!"

Taking the opening, I flick the pad and watch it twirl through the air. My aim is true and it sticks against Ox's neck, sending out a one time burst of 20,000 volts.

"Ggggk!"

The big man crumples to the ground and convulses as his two friends suddenly put their guards. Dan pulls out a gun while Montana takes the lasso off his hip. A batarang knocks the gun from Dan's hand, while another one slices Montana's lasso into two bits of rope. That's when I spring out of the shadows, kicking Montana in the chest and driving him to the ground. I slam my fist into his face and knock him unconscious.

I charge towards Dan, who goes into a defensive stance. He counters my karate chop and attacks with a roundhouse kick. I step back and grab hold of my cape, spinning it in Dan's face to disorient him. It works, as he steps backwards to get his bearings. It's more than enough time for me to put my weight behind the punch that I deliver to Dan's jaw, spinning him around and knocking him tot he ground. I pick him up by his lapels and hold him above my head.

"You're going to tell me everything there is to know about this operation. Who is making it, who is selling it, who is being paid off, and who pays you..."

He talks.

They always talk.

Character you would like to play:
Peter Benjamin Parker

Powers:
Pete has no superhuman or extraordinary abilities of any kind. He is very intelligent, gifted even, especially in science, but hardly a super-genius. If you asked him, he would probably say his 'super power' is attracting bullies.

Brief history of the character:
Peter Parker was orphaned at an early age. His parents, Richard and Mary, frequently left him in the care of his aunt and uncle during their undisclosed 'business trips,' and one day simply never returned, killed in a plane crash. Now in the care of his uncle Ben and aunt May, Peter grew up a shy and introverted child, routinely picked on by schoolyard bullies for both his aptitudes in science and in running his mouth.

Now a junior at Midtown Manhattan Magnet High School, Peter tries to maintain a low profile, keeping his grades high in hopes for a scholarship to the prestigious Empire State University, snap photos for the school paper, suffering the harrassment of the school's star quarterback Flash Thompson, and dealing with the fact that his best friend Harry Osborn is dating his first crush Liz Allan.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character:
I love Spider-Man. I like plenty of superheroes, I get psyched for Hellboy and Invincible, I worship Superman and Batman. But I love Spider-Man. He was the first superhero that I could really connect to, that I could really get behind and root for. Like a lot of other nerdy losers who wish they could do amazing things, stand up to the bad guys, get the girl of your dreams, and never run out of wise-cracks, Spider-Man speaks to the very soul of what makes me a comic geek.

And I know it's kind of played out to put Spidey back in high school and do the origin all over again, but to me, with this brand new and exciting shared universe, it's the perfect place for him to be starting out.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story:

My plan is to have Parker carve out a niche for himself as sort of the 'B-List' hero in a world full of super-soldiers and invincible aliens, the guy who catches all the villains that Superman or the Avengers would overlook. Basically, the OE universe's "pest control." I have several stories I'd like to do, starting with an OE-ized origin and working his way up from there.

What can you bring to this game?:
A veteran of the games with a passion for world-building, for big complex master plans, and for deep characterization.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech:
Comic Sans MS, Red

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG:
At least once, possibly more.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):

"Pete? Pete, you're going to be late for school."

"Just getting my shoes on, Uncle Ben," I call down from my bedroom as I fumble about the mounds of dirty laundry for my other shoe. One of these days, I'm going to learn to clean up after myself. No time for tidying up today, though--it's a big day today.

Once I finally manage to locate and don my footwear, I head downstairs, where Aunt May has just finished making pancakes. I eagerly wolf mine down.

"Goodness, you're hungry today," she says as I scarf down a second pancake.

"Just excited," I say. "Today's the big field trip--we're going to Metropolis to see STAR Labs! We'll actually get to meet Dr. Emil Hamilton and Curt Connors, and see them test out their morphogenic field amplifier!"

"Can't say I know what that is," Uncle Ben says, judging the exact height and speed at which that flew over his head, "but I'm sure it's exciting. Just remember, Metropolis is a big city; be careful out there."

"Don't worry, Uncle Ben," I say, sipping my milk, "We're heading straight to the lab, watching an experiment under completely controlled circumstances, then heading straight back home. What could go wrong?"

Begun, the Spider-man wars have.

IKB
11-10-2011, 06:23 PM
Character you would like to play: James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes, codename: The Winter Soldier.

Powers: The Winter Soldier is one of the deadliest hand-to-hand fighters on the planet, with combat skills that are said to excel even Captain America’s. Unlike his former partner, Barnes does have the Super Solder serum flowing through his veins and therefore is considered to be, by his own estimations, about a third the Captain’s strength. Born into a military family and in active service for much of his conscious life, there are few weapons that Barnes is not a master of.

His travels over the years as the Winter Soldier have led to Barnes becoming fluent in six languages, but also becoming incredibly gifted at adopting the social and cultural norms of a society to the extent that he can move amongst them unnoticed. This, with his years of experience in the field, has resulted in him becoming one of the most effective covert operatives active in the twenty first century.

The explosion that was thought to have claimed his life in 1945 left Barnes without his left arm. In place of it, he was fitted a cybernetic prosthetic limb with enhanced reaction time and enhanced strength. The palm of the prosthetic can administer bolts of electrical energy and has shown to be able to emit an EMP which renders all electronics in the vicinity to become useless and/or shutdown.

Brief history of the character: James Barnes’ mother died giving birth to his sister, leaving only his father to fend for both James and his younger sister. When James’ father died during the war, the then teenage boy managed to convince his company to allow him to remain on Fort Leigh instead of being placed into an orphanage. Fatherless, angry, Bucky often managed to find trouble in and around the base; from getting into fights, to stealing and crashing military vehicles. Eventually, upon realising Bucky’s natural aptitude for hand-to-hand combat and in order to stop him from ending up in prison, or dead for that matter, Bucky is sent to train with the SAS in England for six months.

Once his training had come to an end and with the Allied forces needing a boost to morale, Bucky is assigned to be none other than Captain America’s sidekick. To the American public Bucky is the clean-cut, wholesome American boy but the reality of his role at Captain America’s side is much different; Barnes’ excels at reconnaissance and because of this he is often tasked with the missions that Captain America cannot do.

The combined efforts of The Invaders helped to turn the tides of the war. On a stormy night in 1945, Captain America leads a small number of the Invaders to take back what HYDRA’s remaining weapons facility in the Arctic that goes horribly wrong resulting in the loss of Union Jack and Hourman’s lives. In the battle, Bucky falls into an ice fissure and into the icy waters below, presumed dead.

Bucky’s body, drifting around the North Sea, was discovered by a Soviet submarine searching in hope for the remains of Captain America. Miraculously they managed to bring the deceased sidekick back to life, albeit lacking an arm and the entirety of his memory due to the extent of the brain damage caused by the explosion. Upon realising the length and breadth of the young man’s skill both at armed and unarmed combat, coupled with his knowledge of four languages, Comrade Karpov decided to place the young man under extensive mental reprogramming to ensure his loyalties lied with them alone.

The reprogramming was a success, The Winter Soldier was sent on dozens of missions over the coming decades ranging from assassinations to corporate espionage, in between which he was placed in a suspended state.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: I’m hoping to develop the Winter Soldier persona a little more than we’ve seen previously. He spoke very little before his memories were returned to him with the Cosmic Cube, here’s a chance to see what he was like before then: to test the characters limits, both morally and physically.

What are your plans for the character? Do you have a story: What has The Winter Soldier been up to for the past half decade? How many lives has he effected during that time? Will he ever remember who he really is? There are loads of questions that still need to be answered at this point.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Grey, Arial Black

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: As often as circumstances dictate.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):

High above me I can hear the familiar sound of a wall of bullets clanging off Steve’s shield. He screams my name as he sprints towards the fissure that had appeared beneath my feet moments ago. I've fallen too far; I know that. When Steve arrives and sees me dangling some fifty feet down he knows it too. For the first time ever, his eyes look panicked, he shouts down to me frantically and I can see the cogs inside his mind moving, trying to think of a way to save me.

“You've got to stop that plane,” I shout up at him.

He looks over his shoulder. The sound of the thrusters of HYDRA’s latest prototype plane drowns out the fighting.

Steve shakes his head and shouts back down, “I’m getting you out of there and we’re taking down Schmidt together.”

“You never were any good at lying,” I chuckle, smiling wryly to myself.

Behind him, the plane begins to hover over the ground. If he doesn’t go now, he’s not going to make it. That damned fool would risk Schmidt razing New York to the ground to save me.

I wouldn’t.

I let go of the ice and allow myself to fall for what feels like a lifetime. The sound of Steve's screams from above me become fainter with every passing second, but the pain in my chest grows as it does so, knowing I'll never see him again kills me. I just hope he can find it in his heart to forgive me.

By the time I hit the ice cold water I can barely see the light from above me. The impact knocks my shoulder out of its socket and breaks a couple of ribs; I couldn’t swim to the surface now if I wanted to.

I’m not afraid. My life doesn’t flash before my eyes.

It’s over for me. I understand that.

For the first time in my life I’m not fighting.

One Earth: The Marvel/DC RPG

Character you would like to play: Scott Summers/Cyclops

Powers: Scott has the ability to shoot powerful concussive blasts from his eyes. Scott is also a natural leader.

Brief history of the character: Scott Summers was born in Alaska to parents Katherine Summers and USAF pilot Christopher Summers. Scott was twelve when his parents took him and his little brother Alex for a ride in the family's small Cessna. The plane encountered engine problems and began to plummet to the ground. With only one parachute in the plane, Scott's parents made a choice to save their children. They strapped the two boys to the parachute and tossed them out of the plane. The chute opened as Scott's parents crashed to the ground. The explosion from the plane caused the parachute to catch fire. As he and his brother fell to the ground, a panicked and frightened Scott had his first mutant experience. Powerful optic blasts tore from his eyes and slowed their descent. Upon landing, Scott suffered a head injury and was knocked unconscious. When he awoke, he couldn't control his mutant power. Unable to open his eyes without hurting anyone, he lived in solitary in an Alaskan orphanage for a year before two came to him with a chance to live something of a normal life.

These men were Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr.

Fast forward to today, Scott can safely open his eyes thanks to the protective ruby quartz eyewear he has and is a teacher at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters as well as operating as the field leader of a group of mutants who protect the world and mutant interest. They call themselves the X-Men

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: I've always liked Cyke, he isn't my favorite X-Men team member, but he's right up there. I think the OU X-Men were underused last time. Hopefully we can change that this time.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story: I've got a few stories I want to tell, yeah. That's all I say! :cmad:

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Trebuchet MS, blue and bold.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: Much as needed.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):

"Alright, double time, people!"

I lead the group of teenagers up the muddy hill. Five tanks are rolling down at the bottom of the hill. They suddenly stop and turn their attention towards us, slowly rolling up the hill.

"Alright, here they come. Remember your training!"

I fire off a quick optic blast at one of the tanks. It slides back, but doesn't explode.

"Go, go, go!"

The kids break ranks and go to work. Static fires a bolt of lightning at one of the tanks and shorts it out as Bobby creates an ice slide and dodges gunfire. Colossus ops for a straight up approach, crushing the front of one of the tanks with his metal hands. Iceman incases one of the tanks in ice as Piotr picks his tank up and swings it into the sky with a mighty swing. I take care of the tank I clipped with a full strength blast. It goes up in flames.

"Converge on the last tank!"

The three of them turn their attention to the last tank. Colossus rips off the tank's gun and slams it into the tank while Bobby freezes it and Virgil shorts it out with a few more lightning bolts.

"Clear the area!"

Immobile and defenseless, I lay into it with an optic blast and it goes sky high.

"End session."

The battlefield fades away and becomes the white walls and floors of the Danger Room. I turn my attention to my students.

"Not bad...but still too slow. We have to get it in under a minute."

"So what's our grade?" Bobby asks.

"Hmm...B."

"What?" Virgil says with a sigh. "Come on, Mister Summers. That'll bring down my 4.0."

"B...plus. There. Now get out of here and send in the next three before I change my mind."

Byrd...I'm gonna rock your world!

One Earth: The Marvel/DC RPG

Character you would like to play: Jean Grey/ Marvel Woman

Powers: Jean is one of the most powerful telepaths in known existence. She is an Omega Level Mutant, and as so her powers have no known limit. She can perform any number of great telepathic feats, as well as powerful telekinetic attacks.

Jean is also the chosen avatar of the Phoenix Force, the embodiment of all life in the Universe, something Professor Xavier has tried to block using telepathic barriers. But even then, at times of great stress or desperation, the Phoenix materializes and greatly enhances Jean’s already significant powers.

Brief history of the character: Jean Grey was a seemingly normal girl growing up in the suburbs of New York City. That is, until her friend was struck by a drunk driver as the two walked along the street. The despair and anguish Jean felt as her friend laid dying in her arms awakened her telepathic powers, which sent a powerful shockwave through the Universe, drawing the attention of Charles Xavier…and even stronger cosmic entities.

Xavier and his friend Erik Lehnsherr tracked down Jean and made her their first pupil in a new school for mutant kind where they could learn control in a safe environment. With Jean’s telepathic help, Charles designed Cerebro, a machine that could find other mutants.

Soon, Charles and Erik had assembled a small group to begin training, who then in turn would become teachers themselves. One young mutant in the group, Scott Summers, caught Jean’s eye immediately, and it wasn’t long before the two began to fall in love.

But all was not well. Charles and Erik also created a team from their recruits which would defend the human race. But Erik believed the humans were beneath them, and that their actions would never help mutant kind in their eyes. In the end, the rift grew too big for their friendship, and Magneto left along with another recruit, Arthur Light.

Not long after that, J’onn J’onzz, the last Green Martian, found Charles and decided to join the school. Jean, along with Charles and J’onn (another powerful telepath), began safely unlocking Jean’s potential.

Jean is now in a devoted relationship with Scott, a teacher at the school, and a member of the heroic X-Men.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: Jean has always been an interesting character. She’s not my favorite X-Man, but she’s one of the most important. I’d love to give writing her a shot, and to set up some future plans.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story: Right now I plan on going with the flow of the X-Men. But down the line I have some big, big stories in mind.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Arial Narrow Bold

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: As many as needed.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):

I concentrate, calming myself and making sure I don't let the situation phase me. The attackers converge quickly. I can count three...no four springing through the trees towards me. They think they've caught me unaware, but they're mistaken.

The first robot shoots into the clearing behind me, and runs straight into a kinetic barrier. The second and third converge on either side of me, and I telekineticly float backwards at the last moment, causing them to crash hard into each other. The fourth springs out of the trees. As it descends towards me, I catch it in midair, slamming it into the ground with force.

Instantly, the simulation fades away, and Professor Charles Xavier rolls put of the Danger Room control room towards me, "Very good. I thought I'd have you with the flanking move. You're getting faster."

"Thanks Professor," I smile at the man I consider a second father. "I've been feeling more powerful than ever lately. I don't know what it is."

And now, my second app:

Character you would like to play:

The Joker

Powers:

The Joker employs a vast array of lethal devices and weapons, usually based around a clownish theme. His signature weapon, however, is his Joker Toxin, a combination of hydrogen cyanide and strychnodide which causes violent respiratory seizures, causing his victims to literally laugh themselves to death.

Apart from these, it is believed the Joker also has enhanced strength, speed, and relfexes, but this has yet to be confirmed.

Brief history of the character:

Next to nothing is known of the Joker's true origins; some say he was a gifted career criminal for years before his transformation, others say he was the result of years of abuse and neglect from a broken home, others still say he was a failed comedian forced into a life of crime out of desperation. The task of determining his past isn't made any easier by the fact that most of the conflicting rumors come from the Joker himself.

No matter what the story, however, it always seems to end with him under the guise of 'The Red Hood,' being cornered by the Batman inside the Ace Chemical Plant. During the ensuing scuffle, the Red Hood fell into a vat of chemicals, which permanently turned his skin white and his hair green.

Unbeknownst to many, the Ace Chemical Company was a subsidiary to the much larger company Oscorp, run out of New York. Losing defense contracts to rivals such as LexCorp and Waynetech, Norman Osborn had allocated several of his chemical projects to the less reputable Ace Company....including an experimental 'super-soldier' serum not quite ready for human testing. According to Oscorp files, said formula gave test subjects enhanced strength and speed, but also drove them irrevocably insane.

Whether his mentality is due to the formula running through his veins or simply the horrible circumstances that led to his transformation, the Joker has since adopted a mentality of nihilistic comedy. He has come to believe that existence is one sick, horrible joke.....one that he wants to get everyone in on.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character:

Well, I've never really played a major Gotham villain before, and let's be honest, who hasn't wanted a crack at the Clown Prince of Crime? He's arguably the greatest villain of all time, and one that can be a threat to just about anyone under the right circumstances.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story:

I plan on delving through a lot of the OE universe's criminal underworld, the interplay between all the different criminal empires, and how a loose cannon like Joker would fit into all that. I figure he can be a major destabilizing figure for all sorts of events.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech:

Georgia, bold, Indigo

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG:

Lots 'n' lots!

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):

"So a man and his wife are on their way to church one day," he began, thumping the microphone with his finger to make sure it was on, "and their car stalls out on a set of train tracks. The man gets out to push the car off, and the signal lights come on, warning them that a train is coming. The wife tries to get out, but the seat-belt is stuck! The man tries his hardest to get the car off the tracks, but it's too late, and WHAMMO! The train plows straight through the car!"

The sickly slender man on the stage did his best to contain his snickering; he hadn't even gotten to the best part yet.

"The wife is taken away in an ambulance, and rushed into the emergency room for surgery. It takes hours and hours, until finally a doctor emerges with a somber look on his face."

The ghoulishly pale figure managed to stop smiling for a few moments to do his impression.

"'I'm sorry, sir,' the doctor says. 'We did everything we could, but.....I'm afraid she's paralyzed from the neck down. She'll never move again under her own power, let alone walk. The crash also inflicted severe brain damage, so she isn't capable of even basic cognitive functions. She can't speak, she can't remember things, she can't even control her own bowels. She's alive, but just barely, and you'll have to take care of her now. For the rest of her life, you'll have to feed her, dress her, bathe her, change her diapers, and dedicate your entire life to taking care of this horribly damaged invalid.'"

With that, he started sobbing big crocodile tears.

"'Oh God, no!' blubbers the man. 'This is horrible! This is the worst thing that could ever happen! Both of our lives are ruined forever!'"

Then that horrible, wide toothy smile returned to his face.

"Then the doctor bursts out laughing, and says, 'Nah, I'm just screwing with you, she's dead!' HAAAAAAA-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-HAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!"

The madman rolled across the stage, howling with laughter, but he was the only one in the house laughing. The audience stared at him with dull, dead eyes, their mouths stretched open in awful rictus smiles.

"Hmph," the lunatic said, looking out across the crowd of corpses. "Tough audience. Still, this next one ought to really bring the house down!"

With that, he strutted off the stage, pulling open the proscenium curtain as he left, revealing a pile of oil drums rigged to blow.

A minute later, the theater erupted into flames, the roaring fire not quite completely drowning out the hideous howling laughter....

This is kind of under the assumption that there will be a LexCorp in this universe. If not, I can make appropriate alterations.

One Earth: The Marvel/DC RPG

Character you would like to play: Dr. Robert Bruce Banner

Powers: Dr. Banner has a genius level IQ that cannot be gauged on any known scale and displays an extensive list of areas of expertise, including an aptitude for the study of radiation, advanced engineering, physics, medicine, biology, and chemistry.

Brief history of the character: Ever since he was a child, Bruce has been described as being very emotionally distant, preferring to bury himself in his books rather than go outside with the other kids. That behavior has continued to this day, skyrocketing him above his peers at LexCorp's Research and Development division. Seeking to becoming a more outgoing and stronger personality, Bruce has started seeing a therapist that he knew as another brilliant student back in university, Dr. Leonard Samson. Banner has slowly grown accustomed to the idea of easing his conscience of the weight of his many emotional burdens, except for what he has been feeling most guilty of lately: the Gamma Ray Accelerator technology that he has been developing for LexCorp. When Bruce first came up with the rough designs for this potentially limitless source of energy back in high school, he never dreamed that his future employers would think about putting it into a bomb.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: I had a multitude of ideas that I wanted to explore with Banner and the Hulk in the Marvel RPG before it died that I think could be adapted effectively into this game. Among those ideas is to have fun with the Hulk's rogues gallery (especially in this new and unique setting that provides all new opportunities for their creation). Finally, I'm interested in exploring Bruce's personality and his various motivations to do what he does.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story: Firstly, I plan to develop Bruce as a character before even bringing the Hulk into the picture at all. This will be the story of Bruce Banner's journey into the world of superheroics and his struggle to hold on to the good man who he believes he is.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Plain green text for Bruce. Bold green when he eventually becomes the Hulk.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: As often as necessary for the given story and to move my character forward.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):

"No, Dr. Michaels, you can't take the schematics home with you to work on. Nothing pertaining to the Accelerator leaves this room." Trying to look over Albert Michaels' shoulder at the display on my station's monitors is Sam Sterns. Again. I try to be a patient guy, I really do, but Sterns' is just a lab assistant and has a habit of getting in our way and distracting us more than actually assisting anyone in this lab.

"Sam," I say, trying to put Michaels out of my mind as the doctor slumps back to his equipment. "Go see if you can help Dr. Octavius with anything. We're on a deadline after all." I take Sterns by the arm and try to guide him away from my space. "Mr. Luthor said that General Eiling might be stopping in to see our developments before the end of the week. At our current rate of progress, however, the Accelerator can barely power a light bulb. Troubleshoot it."

I swear, it's a madhouse in here. I'm working with egomaniacs, incompetents, ambitious and conflicting personalities, and now I'm hearing word through the grapevine that there's been talk of putting my accelerator into bombs. Bombs, for God's sake! At first, I thought that that might just be a rumor going around, but it becomes more and more believable every day. And now an actual General is going to visiting specifically to see my damn work? What else am I supposed to think at this point?

Taking my glasses off to rub the bridge of my nose, I fall back in my chair with a sigh. This technology could potentially change our world as we know it, and Lex Luthor wants to sell it so that the military can blow people up with bigger and better explosions. Madness.

Character you would like to play: Daredevil

Powers: Heightened senses as the result of being blidned by a radioactive substance. These heightened senses enable him to, for example, tell if someone is carrying a concealed weapon by smelling the gun-powder from the bullets, or he can read a paper by running his fingers over the print and feeling it. He also has a "radar sense, " an overly developed equilibrium which enables to perfom athletic feats beyond a a normal athlete, and an expert martial artist. Daredevil's cane functions as billy-club with a grappling hook.

Brief history of the character: Matt Murdock grew up in one of the roughest sections of Hell's Kitchen. His mother left him and his father Jack was a thug for a local mob-boss and a part time boxer, but he never told Matt about working for the mob. Matt used to sneak out at night and wander through the streets to see what the world was like. He figured he was never escaping this world so he might as well get to know it. During one of his nightly walk-abouts Matt saw his father Jack unloading a shipment of radioactive waste on the docks from LexCorp. Matt was shocked to find out that the man who spoke to him about obeying the law and being upright was a crook. Matt fled the scene in shame and horror while his father tried to chase him down. One of the thugs hoped in the truck and tried to chase them both down. The driver lost control of the truck and the last thing Matt ever saw was the LexCorp Logo. His father managed to get to Matt and took him to the Hospital. Jack was so overcome with guilt he told Matt he would turn state's evidence against his boss and that would give them Lex Luthor. That would set them for life, but Lex had Jack Murdock killed before it could happen it looked like a random mugging. Lex saw it as tying up loose ends, and eventually he would forget about Jack & Matt Murdock. Matt though would never forget Lex and he hatched a plan for justice. He studied hard and went to Law School and eventually was hired on as Lex's private Lawyer. Matt also saw this as opportunity to use is powers for justice as the Daredevil. As Daredevil Matt works to stop street level crime recognizing everything flows back to Lex and that one day Lex would answer to him.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: I have played this character before and this a great chance to play him again. I like that Daredevil is not just a super-hero but that he has an attitude of "do whatever it takes" to see justice carried out.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story:
Matt will be the ideal lawyer/employee for Lex knowing that this is his way to get his foot in the door and to learn where his weak spots are. He knows that Lex is guilty of all these crimes and wants him to pay but he has to be patient. Stopping street crimes is not only a way to possibly get information but take out his frustration on the crooks because he has to protect the man who killed his father.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: I used this one before why not again?

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: At least once if not more.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):

Matt enters Lex's office and Lex says, "Matthew thank you for taking the time to stop by this afternoon."

Matt replies, "You know me Mr. Luthor always willing to make time for the guy who signs my checks."

Lex chuckels and says, "Of course and you're worth every penny of it. Anyway I have an issue that I need your expertise on. The union is getting ready to come forth with a new collective bargaining and I really am not in the mood for it this time. Can you negotiate on my behalf?"

Matt replies, "Of course sir."

Lex says, "Excellent! Negotiations start in one week conference room 1. Don't give on anything. If they try anything stupid or play the guilt card there are thousands of others willing to their jobs for them."

Matt says, "I'll be ready for them. They'll never know what hit 'em."

Matt and Lex share some more small talk and he leaves the office.

That night as Daredevil patrols the rooftops of Metropolis. While on patrol he overhears an attempted mugging.

Daredevil quickly dispatches the mugger but nearly beats him to death.

Saint and sinner the story of my life. Having to work for a man just a step up from the Devil himself while beating small-time thugs hoping for a lucky break somewhere down the road. Next week having to screw over people in negotiations who are just trying to make a living from that snake in the grass. God have mercy on me as I walk on the highwire between justice and tyranny.

One Earth: The Marvel/DC RPG

Character you would like to play:
Victor Von Doom

Powers:
Victor Von Doom is one of the most gifted minds on the planet. His 11th Level Intellect gives him insight into cybernetics, physics, chemistry, dimensional travel, engineering, and temporal science. Having studied with Stephen Strange, Dr. Fate, Agatha Harkness, and Morgan Le Fey --- plus his access to his mother's gypsy artifacts; Victor is also an accomplished sorcerer. Doom is a classic Magnificent Bastard.

Victor is the sovereign of Latveria and has all the resources and military might of a small Eastern European country with nuclear capabilities. Doom has diplomatic immunity.

Victor has been known to wear an exoskeleton armor that hides a wide array of advanced weaponry and magical runes. He combines technology and magic as well as deception to maintain his personal security. Including impregnable force field technology, flight, time travel, and robotic decoys.

Victor always has a contingency plan.

Brief history of the character:

Victor Von Doom was born in Latveria to a family of gypsies. Victor's people were tormented by the then Baron Vladimir at every turn. When the people could stand it no longer. Doom's mother, Cynthia turned to dark magic to solve her problem. She lost control of the demon, Trigon, and he seized her and took her to his fiery realm. Doom lost his father to the armies of "King" Vladimir years later.

Victor's life was in shambles. He used his skills in sorcery to infiltrate Vladimir's army, where he advanced his knowledge of technology and weaponry. His hard work garnered the attention of American soldiers stationed in the area and eventually he was offered a chance to attend school in the States on the government's dime. Victor traveled west. Saying goodbye to his lifelong love, Valeria.

Victor went to Metropolis where he attended school with such notables as Reed Richards, Ben Grimm, and Lex Luthor. Victor was at the top of his class and became bitter rivals with Richards and Luthor. His tenure there ended however when an experiment of his went horribly wrong.

Reed Richards saw Lex Luthor leaving Doom's dorm room when he decided to drop in on Victor. He discovered the room was empty but before he could leave he noticed a device Victor must have been working on. He examined the device and began to peruse some of the operational notes when Victor stormed into the room demanding to know why Richards was in his dorm.

Reed explained that it was a mistake but insisted that Doom recheck his figures because he had noticed a problem. A problem Doom dismissed due to the circumstances. That and the fact that Richards was jealous of his work.

Doom rushed his efforts and finally devised a way to contact his mother and free her from Trigon's hold. But the machine blew up in his face instead, scarring him.

Doom was expelled from the University and deported from the country. Upon returning to Latveria, he was faced with the evolving realities of his home country. A country ripe with corruption and tyranny. A reign of genocide and ethnic cleansing. Doom had had enough.

Doom was powerful but he needed more. He needed to temper the steel of his character. A vision of his mother and the last words of dying monk would be the sign he needed. He traveled to the Himalayas to find a temple of destiny. A temple that would make him into the Master he'd hoped for. There he struggled to survive and when he arrived he learned all that they could teach. Eventually he emerged from his cocoon. He was Victor Von Doom no longer.

He was Doctor Doom.

He returned to Latveria as a whisper amongst the peasants. He could have simply flew to Vladimir's castle but he advanced slowly. A campaign of the people. And when the congregation arrived at the throne, Doom took power. Doctor Doom threw the dead form of King Vladimir from the ramparts of the castle and flew his flag from the tower.

The Reign of Doom began.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character:

I like him. He's Doom. Nuff said?

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story:

I plan to use the tried and true Doom tropes on the denizens of the DC Universe. That and take over the world. For it's own good.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech:
Doom uses Dark Green Palatino Linotype.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: Twice a weekday. Work a lot on the weekend.

Doomstadt, Latveria
War Room

A grey bearded servant descends some metal stairs into the central atrium of the War Room. At the center of a large viewscreen stands a lone, majestic figure cloaked in dark green. The servant rushes to the figure and bows.

"Milord. The drones are reporting complete infiltration."

"Did you know, Boris that Hungary repelled the Ottomons and the Tatars for over one hundred and fifty years? When other countries were bowing to the Romans, Huns, and the Ostragoths, the Magyars of Hungary occupied the Carpathian Basin unmolested."

"I did not know that, milord."

"Many of the artifacts in the Royal Palace include holy crowns and relics of Christian history dating back to Sir Thomas Aquinas. I myself have seen the Tapestry of Khandaq hanging in Parliment."

"What treasures, milord."

"A pity."

Doom nods to Boris. The faithful servant walks to the panel in front of the monitor and lifts a glass safeguard and presses an ominous red button. The display screen flashes with a mushroom cloud.

"Send our condolences to the UN. Inform SHIELD we'll be ready to assist in humanitarian efforts and that we are already dispatching aircraft to secure the airspace over Budapest."

"Right away, majesty."

"Deliver our statement condemning Atlantis for this act of cowardice. I'll be in my chambers."

"All hail Doom!"

"Indeed."

One-Earth RPG Application

Character you would like to play: Wolverine (James Logan Howlett)

Powers: A mutant, Logan possesses keen animal-esque senses, primarily in his sense of smell, aswell as a regenerative healing factor that gradually restores his body from several different types of wounds. His most signature ability, however, lies with the adamantium coating that lines his skeleton, giving him a near unbreakable frame - and uniquely, a set of razor sharp claws to pop out of each hand.

Brief history of the character: Five years ago, a scrappy, homeless man named Logan mistakenly wandered onto the grounds of Charles Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters without so much as a coherent word to give anyone that approached him. He was finally brought before Xavier himself after nearly getting into a fight with one of the school's top students, a young man named Summers, and given explaination of what the school really was after displaying his talents - Xavier was looking to provide a safe haven to teach young mutants how to hone and control their powers, so as to prevent them from causing destruction in the outside world. When Logan was unable to explain how he got there or why he had drifted all the way to Westchester, knowing it wasn't his native home, Xavier offered to provide him answers with a telepathic insight. But what both men found was far too disturbing for words. Subjected to tests some years ago under the supervision of a mysterious faction calling themselves Weapon X, Logan's skeleton was bonded with an alloy called adamantium and painfully given the tools to become a killing machine.

Unable to comprehend what the memories meant, as Logan had never remembered them before, he promptly decided to leave Xavier's School and search for answers. Though Charles was hesitant to let him wander off, feeling as though he could be of value to the school, he made Logan a deal - that if he didn't find the answers he was looking for in five years' time, he would return to the school and help them fufill their mission in exchange for psychic therapy sessions that would help allieviate the strain put upon his amnesiac memory. Weary, Logan nevertheless agreed.

After wandering the outlands of Canada for the last five years, gaining only vague pieces of a past he didn't recognize, Logan left his situation behind in order to keep his end of the bargain to Xavier. He's now returned to Westchester and volunteered to become a member of Charles Xavier's secret strike team of mutant heroes willing to defend both mutant and humankind alike - The X-Men.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: Honestly, Wolverine has always been one of my favorite Marvel characters of all time. Growing up as a child of the 90's, you couldn't really avoid the Animated Series or the portrayal Logan in it, so it was naturally going to stick with me. So much so that when I started out in the RPG's, I held a brief run as him in the Marvel RPG, making him one of the first characters I ever played. Now that a new OU is up and running, I want to take the opprotunity to shape Logan's past and present continuities from scratch, honoring the past and adding a few twists into what he won't know about Weapon X until later down the line. Also? Supergirl said she would fillet my testicles and eat them on a sandwhich if I didn't apply as an X-Person. :o

What can you bring to this game?: One of the few people in the world who still doesn't believe Wolverine has been oversaturated and can work very well as a character. Also, I have my own bad hygine to compliment the role.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: If'n he talks like this, it's Sienna, Franklin Gothic Medium Bold. Same deal for the thought bubbles, bub.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: At least once.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):

Huh. So this is it.

Logan had been quietly preparing himself for the day that he'd return to Westchester. It'd been five years, five long years of searching - of trying to understand why the demons that kept him awake at night even existed. But even in the backwoods of Alberta, living off of nothing more than a keen sense of self preservation that had managed to keep him alive through the harsh tundra of winter, part of him knew from the start that he would wind up back at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Slinging a sachel full of the few personal belongings he held to his name, Logan tossed away the lit cigar in his mouth and departed from the woods surrounding the massive mansion, beginning to walk towards the entrance. He'd heard that the school had managed to double in terms of it's class since he had last visited. And for all intents and purposes, looking at the students that were hanging around the entrance and the surrounding yards, covorting amongst themselves - it seemed as though there was some truth in that claim.

Just what he needed, he thought to himself with a heavy grunt. A bunch of snot-nosed brats to look after.

"Hey, hairy. You lost?"

Eyebrow raised, Logan turned towards a kid in his early teens standing behind him. Green-skinned and particularly inquisitive looking, wearing purple and white fatigues. Holding a basketball between each hand. Logan's eyes shifted around him, wondering where the other kids to play the game were.

"Hardly. Ain't ya got somewhere to be, greenie?"

"Whoah. Nice, with the accent. You're not from around here, huh?"

Logan snorted, turning around.

"Buzz off, junior. I got business with yer teacher."

"You wanna see Mr. Summers? Good luck with that, man. He's usually out on Friday nights with Ms. Grey,"

Even as Logan created some distance between them, the green-skinned student continued talking.

"Hey! My name's Gar! What's your's?"

Annoyed, he nevertheless answered.

"Logan."

"Logan? Sweet! My name's Logan, too! Maybe we're related!"

Rolling his eyes, he continued on towards the school's entrance.

This had better be a worthwhile endeavor.

Do you know how to post pictures on the hype boards?:

One Earth: The Marvel/DC RPG
Character you would like to play: Luke Cage, the Hero for Hire. Power Man.

Powers: Superhuman strength and endurance. He's basically bullet-proof and can bench press a few tons. He's a fighter from the streets.

Brief history of the character: Carl Lucas was convicted for a crime he didn't commit. He was offered a way out if he would undergo an experimental operation, intended to create a cure for all disease. Lucas agreed, but the experiment went wrong, instead granting him superstrength. He broke out and created a new identity for himself: Luke Cage, the Hero for Hire.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: Because I came up with a concept that really brings together two disparate parts of the DC/Marvel universe in a fun and a little insane way. I'm pretty excited about the concept I've come up with.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story: I have at least one story in mind, that I will definitely finish. If I don't play further, I'll make sure to set Luke up well for the next man.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Trebuchet MS, Gold, Bold.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: As many times as I want, you jive turkey.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):
"Nah, nah baby, it was no thing."

Luke Cage was in his office in New York City's Harlem, on the phone to his girlfriend, Harmony. He had his feet propped up on his desk, balancing his chair on its two hind legs. It was a little rickety and looking to buckle under the weight of the strongman.

"He in there, doll?"

"Just a little bodyguard stuff. Yeah, of course I got to talk to her," Luke was saying, smiling. "Well, what are you gonna do for me?"
Harmony Young's reply was laced with profanities; Luke Cage's smile grew wider.
"Sweet Christmas, girl, you kiss your mother with that mouth?"

"We don't need an appointment."

Luke Cage looked up as he heard some rumbling outside his office's door. But before he could get up to see what was going on, his girlfriend caught his attention again, whispering things into his ear unfit to reprint here.

"What I think my friend is trying to say, miss, is that Mr. Cage will want to hear us out. It really is of the utmost importance."

There was more rumbling from outside and now Luke Cage looked to the door with more concern. "Baby, I think I gotta go," he said into the phone, "I think my new job is about to come in any second. Yeah, I'll come by tonight."

Just as Luke Cage put the phone on the hook, the door burst open. Tumbling into the office was the hero's secretary, Jennie Royce, falling face first to the floor. Stepping over her shapely behind were seven kids. The average age between them was eleven.

Luke Cage laughed as he looked at the motley crew. In front was a stocky ginger kid with a cap on his head. He was flanked by a buck-toothed kid with an aviator cap and a girl dressed in a pinkish sweater a size too big. Behind them were a gangly, bespectled lad and a young black boy wearing a plastic diving mask with a snorkel, whose jaw had nearly dropped to the floor. In the centre stood a similarly wide-eyed, but smiling kid, who was the best dressed and the first to speak up.

"Mr. Cage," he started, but he was interrupted by secretary Jennie, who had gotten up and was rubbing the dirt from her face and clothes.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Cage, I couldn't stop them."
"That's all right, Ms. Royce," Luke Cage responded, leaning back and propping his feet back up on the table. He turned to the kids. "I don't do bullies, kids, much as I'd want to. Got a lot of parents on my neck for that one. I could give you some tips though."
"What, youse think we can't handle ourselves?" the stocky kid asked, raising his fists. Luke Cage laughed.
"Yeah, I'm not worried."
"We're here for something a lot more important than bullies, Mr. Cage," the kid wearing a tie and jacket said. The others, showing their agreement (and seriousness), nodded furiously.
"What you got, kid?" Luke Cage put his hands behind his head. "I can handle anything."
The kids looked to each other, before the leader in the centre finally said: "That's why we came to you, Mr. Cage. We need you to save the world."

The chair buckled.

Sweet Christmas!

Blacklight
11-11-2011, 02:40 AM
One Earth: The Marvel/DC RPG

Screen Name: Blacklight

Character you would like to play: Peter Parker; The Amazing Spider-Man

Powers: Able to cling to any surface, enhanced agility and reflexes, disproportionate strength, "Spider senses" that allow him to sense dangers that approach him. He also was able to create webshooters to dispense artificial webbing he was able to synthesize himself, and using said webbing he's able to swing around the city (his preferred method of transportation).

Brief biography of the character's history: Peter was just 15 when he was bitten by a radioactive spider that endowed him with various arachnid abilities as well as the knowledge needed to create his own biodegradable web compound and wrist mounted 'web shooters' to go with it.

At first, Peter used his powers for selfish reasons, until his own selfish acts led to his Uncle Ben's murder. Since then he's used his powers responsibly and helped to protect his hometown of New York City from crime as the Amazing Spider-Man!

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: Spider-Man is a character that, like almost everyone else here, I'm a huge fan of and have been for a long time. I've been waiting to play him for a long time now, since I missed my chance to apply for him in the last OU RPG due to my absence at the time, and also have since tried to acquire him in All-Star Marvel before the role was given to Andy C.. I've been waiting for the opportunity to play him again, and here it is. Maybe I'll get that chance here, maybe not... But either way, I'm not letting another opportunity slip away from my grasp, so here I am.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story: Of course! As Pete begins his new school year at Midtown High, he finds himself in need of a job, and a certain paper is in need of pictures of Spider-Man in action. That's the initial arc in a nutshell, and following will be flashbacks to his origin interspersed with an arc about Spider-Man taking on the Kingpin as well as various other supervillains looking to get a piece of him. I've been waiting to play this character again for a LONG time now, so you will find I'm in this for the long haul and I've got enough story ideas for the long haul.

What can you bring to this game?: I have reasonably vast knowledge of Marvel and Spider-Man particularly, and have portrayed the Ultimate version of the character on two occasions prior, so I can bring posts that are true to the character. I also have experience in RPing in general and can make sure a post of length is up before two weeks have past from the previous post, so I'd like to say I can bring a steady flow of posting for this character as well and the RPG as a whole, especially if in a multi-player arc.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Blue Comic Sans MS for Peter, Bold Red Comic Sans MS for Spider-Man

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: As many as I can.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 5 paragraphs long and contain at least 3 line of dialogue):

The definition of the noun "Luck" is something that happens to someone by chance, or a superstitious feeling that brings one fortune or success... Except when the word pertains to me. In which case, it is something bad that happens to someone by chance, or a superstitious feeling that brings one pain and misery.

I've even coined a name for it. I call it the "Good ol' Parker luck".

I can be so clever sometimes.

But anyways, going back to my rant... It seems when something can or will go wrong, it usually does in my case. That's the Good ol' Parker luck in a nutshell, and it's the reason why the house myself and my Aunt May live in is going to be foreclosed unless I can make some extra bucks to help her pay for it. It's the reason why a spider that was doused in a bath of radiation bit my hand and the next day I could climb walls, and last but certainly not at all the least... It's the reason why a robber I could've stopped killed my Uncle Ben.

Notice the pattern?

So that's why I have taken it upon myself to change that. From herein, my luck's gonna change. I came up with a great idea while reading today's Daily Bugle. Seems they're on the lookout for some good pictures of Spider-Man, and they're willing to pay for them. So who better to provide some than Spider-Man himself?

Oh yeah. Where are my manners? My name's Peter. Peter Parker. And I'm insane. I must be... Because here I am, in a dark and dirty warehouse, clinging to the ceiling about to tangle with the Kingpin's men for the sake of photographing myself doing it and all this while the Mets game is on, no less.

"Hurry up and get this s*** on the truck, Clem!"

"Yes, sir..." he muttered.

Great. I think I found our weakest link here. If there's one thing I know, it's always go after the small fry first, and save the big fish for last.

...Or was it the other way around?

Either way, I had a plan and I'm sticking to it... No pun intended.

THWIP!

"What the-- AAAAHHH!!" Clem screamed as I yanked him up towards the ceiling and webbed him up to a girder.

"Clem? CLEM!"

"Holy crap, he's up there!"

"What is that?"

"Does it matter? SHOOT IT!"

The two henchmen pulled out their automatics and opened fire, which sent my spider-sense for a loop. Quickly I crawled away from their fire and back into the shadows.

"Where did it go?"

"I dunno..."

"Did you see it?"

"Yeah. I think it was wearing red and blue."

"You think it was that Superman mook from Metropolis?

"Ahem... So not Superman." I informed them as I came out of the shadows and quickly fired new weblines, aimed for their guns.

THWIP! THWIP!

"Do you see me sporting a spit curl?"

Yanking the guns from there hands, I used my strength to break all of them in half.

"Besides, I wear my underwear on the inside, not out."

Jumping down from the ceiling, I vaulted off the ringleaders head and plowed my foot into one of his cohort's faces. Then I proceeded to yank the other one with my webbing towards me, punching him in the temple as he got close enough. Finally, I webbed up the leader's ankles and began to spin around on my heel, letting the centrifugal force of the spin send him reeling into the nearest crate.

"Hmm... I should leave a note." I told myself, surveying my work.

Pulling out a sticky note pad from my belt under my suit, I began to scribble a note on the top sheet.

"Signed "Your Friendly Neighborhood Not-Superman!"..." I finished as I placed it on one of the thugs' unconscious bodies.

I then jumped back up into the scaffolding of the warehouse where my phone was webbed up.

"Now to see what I managed to..." I trailed off as I noticed the battery died during the fight.

"...Shoot."

That's the Good ol' Parker luck, right there.

Now the Spider-Wars begin in earnest!

Also, dang. On the one hand, I've got a bunch of stuff I'd like to do with Spidey as well. But on the other hand, I really like BL's sample post and am starting to think I didn't really bring my A-game on my own.

Now, I know what the general consensus is, so I know that this is gonna be frowned upon. But since no one else has shown much of an interest, I'm gonna throw my hat into the ring and see what happens. Regardless, I advise to the GM's that if someone else throws in an application for him within the 24 hour period (hell, to be fair, give them another day if you want), seriously consider their's over mine, because I've had plenty of chances with this character. I just feel like if I don't try out for it, at least, I'll regret never taking the chance.

So without further adieu...

One Earth: The Marvel/DC RPG

Character you would like to play: Superman (Clark Kent/Kal-El)

Powers: Flight, superhuman strength, speed, hearing, physical invulnerability, heat and x-ray visions, artic breath. His powers are amplified by exposure to the yellow sun, and weakened with only two as-of-yet undiscovered vulnerabilities: magic and the radiation emitting from a green meteorite fragment of his homeworld.

Brief history of the character: Rocketed to Earth to escape the perils of a dying world, baby Kal-El was found by a loving human couple with no child of their own, who lived on a farm in Smallville, Kansas. Adopting him as their son Clark, Johnathan and Martha Kent raised the boy to the best of their abilities, instilling values and morals that helped shape a strong foundation for Clark's future as a man who saw only the goodness in others. It wasn't until he reached his early teens that he discovered that he wasn't like everyone else - that after being able to leap entire fields in a single bound, benchpress a tractor with ease, and burn holes through the wooden walls of his parents' barn, he was far beyond anything that qualified mortal man. At first believing he was a mutant, a race that had began inhabitanting the worldwide scope of species, Clark was stunned when Johnathan and Martha came forward to him with the truth: That he was never born a human being, and that he was actually a being from space. Distraught, Clark ran away from home for a brief time to both cope with the news and harness his newfound abilities.

As the boy from Kansas who realized he was a superhuman began to perform many great feats of heroism across the world, the American government began picking up on the subsequent stories made about the championed "Superboy". Even though he seemed to be helping civilians, General Sam Lane was nevertheless authorized to begin an investigation on the chance that it could be a potential hostile. The government's consulting biophysics expert, Dr. Milton Fine, was made head of the charge. After dodging various government agents under Fine's contract for months, putting himself at risk with every chance he took to help others, Clark finally decided to return home to figure out what to do next.

The answer came to him when, following the sudden and tragic death of his adoptive father, Clark left Smallville to make something of his life. He travelled to the flourishing city of Metropolis, dubbed 'The City of Tomorrow' by it's citizens, and realized that the city gave him alot of ground to cover. He could hide in plain sight without being seen, and if he was careful, he could even manage to quietly settle into a new life. But fate intervened when a blockwide fire broke out in Suicide Slums, threatening the lives of hundreds and leaving the fire departments helpless. On the scene was a young reporter for The Daily Planet named Lois Lane, who was trying her best to help get some of the people to safety herself. After mistakenly getting caught on the third floor of one of the buildings, she momentarily screamed out as burning embers reigned down upon her. But she was saved. All of them, mysteriously, were saved.

That was when Metropolis knew it had it's own saviour. In the weeks following, Clark's heroics ranged from preventing muggings to saving dogs and cats from being ran over in the streets. Lois Lane began dubbing the phenomena that overtook the media 'The Superman Epidemic', and the name stuck. Realizing he now had a title to go by, Clark decided to adopt a costume made up of ancestrial fabrics sent with him from his homeworld in order to champion this newfound sense of responsibility. He was now living two lives - by day, as a struggling nameless face from Smallville who was applying to every job that he could. And by night, as Metropolis' silent protector, The Man of Steel known to some as... Superman.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: Had I originally felt like I wasn't taking a chance from anyone to play him, Superman would have been my first choice for a character. But in the hours since the OOC thread went up, we've seen plenty of apps, and none of them for him. In my initial run in the original OU, I was just starting out in playing major characters and never felt quite accomplished in my portrayal of Superman's mythos. Now that I've gained some experience, I want to go back and retell it all from the beginning, showing what led him from quiet do-gooder to the hero that would one day inspire so many others to take up the pursuit of Truth, Justice, and the American Way.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story: In contrast to what many would assume, I actually want to take the chance to embark on a slow burn approach towards Clark's development. He is already Superman by the time that we meet him, but he's far from being the full character that we know and love. He isn't mild-mannered, glasses wearing and 'aw, shucks' Clark Kent yet, and he doesn't yet work for The Daily Planet. He's just simply out there as a face in the crowd, saving people in the costume while trying to obscure himself as much as possible - which, as he'll find, only becomes more and more complicated as time goes on.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Bolded Navy Verdana for Superman, unbolded for Clark. Italics applies for thoughts.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: I've been wanting to tell a story like this for a long time, so you can hopefully expect more activity.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):

Wish it would stop raining, for once.

I would say it was just my luck, but I've actually grown a little used to walking home in the pouring rain on a Friday evening. From my days back on the farm, I've been witness to weather way worse than this, so to brave it for a chance to apply at the new store clerk's position down on 5th street was never going to be a second thought. But as I realize that I still have about three blocks to go before I even reach my apartment building, my brow furrows and I pull up the hood of my jacket to continue on. There's a reason I could stand the weather in Smallville - I could easily just fly past it, or through it, giving me something of an interesting obstacle. I guess for all of my bellyaching, I could just consider this the same thing. Pa always told me that whenever you're faced with hardship, keep a smile up. And I do, thinking about him. It's just one of the reasons I'm always going to miss him.

On my way through the streets, I stop whenever I pass a newsstand. Something about a headline caught my eye. Searching through the publications that are on sale, I finally spot what I was looking for whenever my gaze falls upon an issue of The Daily Planet. "Anti-mutant rallies gone to extremes!", it says. "Congressman Trask has powerful words for sanctioned youth school that harbors superpowered prodigies."

My heart sinks as I begin to read about the persecution that these people are going through. And all just because they're a little different than everyone else. Who's to say that they're not good people, regardless? I shake my head and scoop the paper under my arm, gently throwing down the fifty cents required for purchase and begin to head back for home. I don't know if I'd feel quite the same thing if I wasn't going through similar circumstances myself, but I've always thought of mutantkind as a benefit, not a blight. Maybe that's why I've chosen to do what I do in silence. Fearing that everyone would see me the exact same way as they see them.

Not that it's ever going to stop me. Ma and Pa said I was put here for a reason, and I intend to see that through. Whatever it is.

"Help! Please, help! Somebody!"
"Shut the hell up, lady, now! Or I swear I'm gonna stick this knife in your damn chest!"

Uh-oh. That doesn't sound good.

Looking around to make sure that no one's paying attention, I dart into a nearby alleyway and drop the paper, along with my outer set of clothing, revealing the bright red and blue ensemble underneath of it all. The cape tucks and folds out, falling just above the back of my feet. I shake my head dry, watching as a few strands fall to my forehead, creating a curl. And all of this happens within the span of a few seconds.

Whether someone out there is afraid of what I do, or whatever I even am, I don't think that matters too much at a time like this.

Because this looks like a job for Superman.

One Earth: The Marvel/DC RPG

Character you would like to play: Tony Stark / Iron Man

Powers: Tony possesses no superhuman powers. He is, however, a bonafide genius and one of the wealthiest men in the world.

Brief history of the character: Tony Stark was selfish, arrogant, heartless prick.

After the death of his parents when he was 21, Stark inherited Stark Enterprises and continued his father's work of weapons manufacturing.

While on a trip to Kahndaq, where he displayed Stark Enterprises' newest creation of mass destruction, Tony was abducted by the League of Assassins. Taken to an underground facility and held hostage, Tony was forced by the League and their leader, the mysterious Ra's Al Ghul, to create a weapon capable of wiping entire cities off the map.

With the help of his fellow prisoner, scientist Yinsen, Tony instead put together the prototype of his now world-famous Iron Man armor, allowing him to escape to League's base. The cost, however, was Yinsen's life.

Traveling back to the States, Tony has a new outlook on life. Having witnessed first-hand the horror of war and the horror wreaked by his creations, Tony disbanded the weapons manufacturing division of Stark Enterprises.

As Iron Man, the Golden Avenger, Tony seeks to right the wrongs of his past and, if he's lucky, redeem himself.

So, basically, he's a selfish, arrogant prick with a heart of gold.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: I wanted to go with a high-profile character who would be able to take part in some big, epic stories. Since I'm not even going to pretend I'm not influenced by watching the Avengers trailer a thousand times, the choice came down to Tony or Thor.

Being Icelandic, I feel I could certainly bring a sense of authenticity to Thor, but in the end, Tony is a more interesting character to me.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story: I do, and I don't.

Tony is seeking redemption. In his mind, no matter how many people he saves, he can not make up for the amount of death and destruction his creations have caused. But he's going to try. Even if it'll be the death of him, he's going to try.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Verdana, Red, for Tony. Fixedsys, Bold, for Iron Man.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: I intend on posting a few times a week, when in a solo arc. However, when interacting or taking part in a multi-player story, I can post as many times as is needed of me.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):

"I hate to break it to you, but you're insane." Tony coughs, blood dripping from his lips.

He has been beaten, poisoned, and broken. 24 hours ago, Tony Stark was in a king-sized bed, surrounded by swimsuit models. Now, he was on his knees in a filthy, underground laboratory somewhere in Kahndaq.

Every muscle in his body ached, a seemingly never-ending stream of blood poured from every wound he had suffered in the explosion. He could still feel the shrapnel embedded in his left leg.

"Am I, Mr. Stark?" a cold, cruel voice came from the dark. It was the voice of his captor, the man who had attacked Stark's convoy, mercilessly killing a dozen men just to get to Tony. "Look at the world, Mr. Stark. Look at yourself."

The man sneered, stepping out of the shade and into the light. "Mankind is a plague upon the Earth. You steal, murder, rape. The League of Assassins will wash the filth away, Mr. Stark, and you...."

Ra's Al Ghul, the Demon's Head, smiled. "...you will play the part of the Grim Reaper. It is a role you have shown a great affinity for."

One Earth: The Marvel/DC RPG

Character you would like to play:Alexander J. "Lex" Luthor

Powers: Lex has no meta-human powers. However he does have a genius level I-Q, several weapons including a Battle-Suit, and tremendous wealth as the Founder and President if LexCorp.

Brief history of the character: Lex grew up in the Suicide Slum section of Metropolis. He was a victim of child abuse and hated his life in the Slum vowing to not only escape but one day make his father pay for the abuse he suffered at his hand. Luthor used his Genius level I-Q to win a full ride scholarship at Metropolis University where he met his chief rival Victor Von Doom. (Lex was not about to have his power and standing in the academic community taken from some European Gypsy off-spring and sabotaged one of Victor's experiments...though Victor doesn't know this). Lex was more than content to let his other rival Reed Richards take the fall. After graduating from Met-U MIT was begging him to attend which he did further enhancing his reputation as a Genius. Lex used his tech savvy gifts and ruthlessness to build LexCorp into one of the most, if not THE, powerful companies in the world also managing to hire several of the greatest minds on the planet to work for him outbidding such contemporaries as Stark Industires, Oscorp, and Wayne Enterprises. Luthor's hatred of the heroes such as Superman, Spider-Man, and the others extends from the fact that inspite of his wealth, power, and influence he cannot control ANY of them, so if he cannot control them he will destroy them at all costs. He has declared war on them and willing to align himself with others to see their destruction.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: With the exception of The Atom in the Ultimate DC universe RPG this is the character I am most known for. I love this character!

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story:Lex seeks to destroy the heroes, but also have the people of the world admire and respect him. He keeps his hatred in check and doesn't make it public knowledge. I view him as an evil version of Bill Gates. While he gives away millions to charity it is all a front. If he were to give you $1,000 dollars somehow he is making $10,000 and at your expense.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech:This one always worked why change now.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: Often.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):

Lex stares out at the Metropolis Skyline as he finishes putting on his Tuxedo Jacket for the LexCorp charity ball. His assistant Mercy Graves knocks on the door to his office.

He says, "Enter."

Mercy hands him an envelope and says, "This arrived by courier abut 10 minutes ago."

Lex says, "Thank you Mercy have the Limo in front in 15 minutes."

She bows slightly and leaves the office. Lex opens the envelope and it shows several pictures of Senator Layden in a less than flattering light.

Lex smiles and scans a few of them. He then calls Senator Layden and says, "Good Evening Patrick. How are you?"

Layden responds, "What do you want Lex? It's a bad enough I've gotta play nice in front of the cameras for your charity event tonight."

Lex responds, "Oh come now Patrick no need to get uppity with me on this besides you're about to owe me."

Patrick asks, "For what?"

Lex replies, "For keeping this out of the National Spotlight."

Lex sends the scanned documents to Patrick who mumbles, "How? It's not possible I was HOW?"

Lex replies, "Not important the fact that I have them though is, and you are about to do exactly what I say or you can be ready to have Jon Stewart and his crew have a good time with these tomorrow night."

Patrick asks, "What is it you want?"

Lex replies, "Simple the Mutant Registration Act; you are now in favor of it."

Layden says, "But I campaigned against it. I've written editorials against it. I made my opposition the center piece of my time in the Senate!"

Lex says, "You had a change of heart. It's either that or your family and you can work out your change of address, because I'm betting your wife will not want you in her life or your children's lives especially if scan #2 is seen by the public! WOW! Anyway Your call Patty."

Layden says, "All-right Luthor you win, but know this I will devote my life to seeing you burn in hell!"

Lex says, "Whatever just remember to smile for the camera tonight during our photo-op."

Patrick hangs up the phone and Lex says, "Not even a goodbye. Well that was rather rude."

Lex begins to chuckle as he leaves his office.

A quick question about the Avengers, are we going with the idea they were started\sponsored by S.H.I.E.L.D. or are they more independent? I've always preferred them on the independent side like they are in the comics instead of the movie way of doing things. Cheese took my Marvel character idea with Ironman so I'll have to consider another one but very likely still an Avenger.

One Earth: The Marvel/DC RPG

Character you would like to play: Matt Murdock/Daredevil

Powers: Matt, though blind, has super-humanly enhanced senses. He also has a radar sense which can be compared to ech-location. And, to some degree, makes up for his lost sight.

Matt is in peak physical condition, spending years training his body to fight. His enhanced senses, especially his hyper-developed inner ear, give his uncanny agility and athleticism.

Brief history of the character: Matt's father, Jack, was a prize fighter in his hey-day. But as they years rolled on, age caught up with Jack, and he couldn't hold his own in the ring they way he used to. After his wife's untimely passing, and his inability to provide for his son in the ring, Jack became a bouncer, fighting whenever he could scrounge up a fight.

Despite his father's struggles, Matt's pride in his father never wavered. He was always in his corner, cheering Jack on during a fight, training alongside him in the gym, and always working hard in school to make his father proud. And, despite having to live in New York's Hell's Kitchen, an historically tough and unforgiving neighborhood, the only neighborhood is father could afford, Matt grew up to be a smart and good boy. Always staying away from the gangs and criminal elements.

And then, one day, when Matt was walking home from school, he saw a runaway truck barreling down at an old man crossing the street. Without a thought, Matt threw himself at the man, saving his life. But the truck swerved and crashed, spilling the illegal containers of toxic waste it was carrying, which splashed Matt in the face.

Instanly, Matt was blinded, consigned forever to the dark. But during his stay in the hospital, he learned that, while his sight was gone, his other sense were amped up to painful levels. It took Matt some time to learn how to get his senses under control.

Life also started getting better as Jack began winning more, and bigger, fights. As the money started rolling in, life got good. Until a man, a certain underworld figure, came to Jack, and, in no uncertain terms, told Jack he would take a dive in the next fight. But when Jack saw his son in the corner, he couldn't bring himself to lose, and knocked his opponent out.

It cost Jack his life.

His father's murder drove the teenaged Matt away from New York. He explored the world, training his mind and body. He took up studying the law. In this way, he would be able to protect the innocent in the courtroom during the day. And protect them on the street at night...

...as Daredevil.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: I think it's about time I stretch my Marvel muscles some more. Daredevil is a fascinating character. And after spending so much time playing superpowered characters, I think it's time to get back to street level thug-busting.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story: I do have a story in mind. One that extends outside of the court room, and into the court of public opinion. It'll take me a while to build to that point, though. So I'll just bust some heads in the meantime.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Dark Red, and Book Antiqua Dark Red

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: Probably only a couple of time a week. More, schedule permitting.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):

sniffsniff

I can smell the car's unique deisel exhaust a block away. I tilt my ear in that direction and concentrate on the sound of screeching tires and roaring engine. And once I have an idea where they're going, I turn around and run to the opposite side of the building, leaping into the air.

I push away the feeling of the wind and focus on the building rushing up in front of me. I throw my billy-club line down, snagging it on an outcropping. Extending my legs, I let the line swing me around and back up into the night sky.

I retract the line, reach out, and grab a telephone line I can hear swaying in the faint wind. I spin my body up and around the line, using it to slow my momentum, then let go. I land on the roof below, and instantly start running.

screeeech

I grunt, and use the sound as an incentive to move faster.

***

"Do you see him?!"

"Don't see the ****er anywhere! I think we lost-!"

The windshield explodes as my billy-club flies through it. The bank robber driving swerves too sharply and plows into a mailbox before slamming into a subway entrance.

I land on the hood a second later.

"Next time, try harder."

Character you would like to play:Green Arrow

Powers:Green Arrow does not have any meta-human abilities, but he is a Master Archer (can shoot up to 29 arrows in a minute), a master martial artist, swordsman, and pilot.

Brief history of the character: Oliver once was a brash braggart who lived for thrills and a great party. While sailing on his yacht in the middle of the ocean Oliver was betrayed and thrown overboard by Hackett his bodyguard. Oliver washed up on what was believed to be a deserted island. In order to survive he fashioned himself a bow & arrow set and discovered he was very good at using it. Oliver learned how to be content without the material trappings of life and appreciate his life as it was on the island. The island though was not deserted He learned the island was actually being used as a staging area for a Mutant Slave Trading ring run by someone named China White. Oliver tried to stop it, but Hackett (who worked for China) took care of Oliver and left him for a dead. A Mutant named Taiana had witnessed Oliver's bravery and helped him heal. Oliver was so touched by the kindness shown to him by Taiana he vowed he would not leave or call for a rescue until she and her fellow mutants were freed. Oliver taught the Mutants in Taiana's tribe how to stand up for themselves and to fight back. Finally China was beaten and Oliver did some further research on China and discovered that she was working for Lex Luthor who was using the Mutants as Lab Rats. When Oliver was rescued he downplayed his involvement and honored Taiana's wish of never mentioning the Mutants on the Island. She and her people just wanted to live in peace and this island was their home.

When Oliver returned home he was a changed man. He toned down the persona of billionaire playboy, but he kept up some of it because he knew what needed to be done. He knew that there was a need for a hero who, like his hero Robin Hood, would champion the cause of those that society had cast aside like Mutants. Oliver Queen became one of the most outspoken advocates of Mutant Rights and supporter of Mutant Causes. To the point that Charles Xavier frequently invites him to his school to lecture on Mutant Rights and the Business Community He moved to New York state where there seemed to be great deal of Mutant Causes and issues he could get involved with and lives in Metropolis. Oliver knew though that more needed to be done. He fashioned himself a custom made bow & arrow set with many of the arrows actually containing surprises, and a costume based upon the name Taiana had given him Green Arrow

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character:He is a very complex character. He doesn't have any meta-human powers per-se and yet he still is able to make a difference in a big way. Also I am ready to play someone other than a villain.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story: This will be a journey for Oliver Queen as he not only makes his fight for Mutants very public but also fights for non-mutants as well. He is trying to rehab his image to a point, and that point is he can't have people suspect that he's actually the Green Arrow.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech:This one seems to work

Green Arrow stands on the ledge of a building just outside of Suicide Slum.

Well looks like I might be able to call it a night early. All is quiet only broke up one attempted mugging in 3 hours.

Just then the sidedoor to a bar flings up and a young girl comes running out yelling, "Stay Away!" While five other guys pursue her yelling, "Come on back here we'll make it worth your while!"

The girl turns and shoots a couple small bolts of light that seem to stagger her assailants but they keep coming at her.

She's a mutant! 20 to 1 after they have their way with her they'll frame her for attacking them!

Arrow feels his jaw lock into place.

She's running into a dead-end alley. She won't last two minutes against them even with her powers.

Arrow fires a grappling arrow into a wall at the far-end of the alley and ziplines down in-between the young girl and her assailants.

Arrow then draws an arrow and says, "Party's over scum BEAT IT!"

The group stops for a moment and one of them picks up a board and says, "Well well a good Samaritan! Gonna beat that green mask off of your face!"

Arrow fires and the arrow impales itself into the board and the hand. The man screams in agony as Arrow in one smooth motion gets out another arrow and loads it.

He says, "Anyone else?"

The other four run away. Green Arrow walks over the man who is still screaming and launches a spinning kick which renders the man unconscious. He says, "Keep it quiet. People are trying to sleep."

Arrow looks back and sees the young girl noticeably shaken he walks over with his hand extended and says, "It's okay they won't bother you anymore. It's all-right."

She steps forward timidly at first and then embraces Arrow. She starts to weep and Arrow says, "It'll be okay."

Just then they hear police sirens and Arrow says, "Time for us to go. I don't think you want to be here." The young lady nods quickly. He pulls the arrow out of the would-be assailant's hand and fires a grappling arrow. They both ascend to a nearby rooftop.

Arrow asks, "Where do you live?"

She points to a large building about three blocks over and Arrow fires another grappling arrow to a nearby building and says, "Grab hold. I'll make sure you get home. It'll take a couple more shots though, but you're safe now."

Character you would like to play: Green Lantern (Harold “Hal” Jordan)

Powers: He has a blasted Green Lantern ring so anything he puts his will to it as long as fear doesn’t stand in his way. I guess that is why one of his weaknesses is the whole female commitment thing, too afraid to being tied down.

Seriously, usual Lantern powers such as flight, energy constructs (more usual planes or boxing gloves) space\environmental survival, energy fields, laddie dah laddie dah

Brief history of the character: Jordan worshipped his father who was a test pilot. The elder Jordan didn’t show any fear from what Hal knew even when it came to sacrificing his life to save others from a malfunctioning aircraft. This severally messed things up at home with his two brothers and his mother. Hal enlisted, illegally, into the Air Force and became a good fighter pilot but had authority issues. His mother never liked him being in the Air Force but Hal didn’t care until his mother became extremely ill. He couldn’t get time off to go see her so he literally punched his superior officer to get kicked out. After his mother’s death, Jordan went to work for Farris Aircraft where his father used to work. He gets reintroduced to a more grown up Carol Farris who is now in charge of the company.

During one of days at work, a green ring went flying through the air and latched onto his finger dragging him through the air back the way the ring came. There is met an alien dying who had a strange green uniform. The alien said he was Abin Sur of the Green Lantern Corps and that Jordan was selected to replace him as protector of sector 2814. Jordan then found himself on Oa getting trained by an alien by the name of Kilowog and meeting the Guardians of the Universe. They sent him back to Earth to protect his home planet AND sector. Jordan has a tendency to protect his planet more then the sector itself but it isn’t his fault that Earth has a huge attraction for a host of things from alien invasions to mega-powered maniacs running around with big toys they shouldn’t have.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: I’ve played several Lanterns so far (Saint Walker, Miri, and John Stewart) but always wanted a hand at who some would consider to be THE Green Lantern. Personally, I think each of the Earth Green Lanterns, including Alan Scott, has their place.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story: To go where no man has gone before, oh wait wrong story. I’m hoping to eventually form some sort of Justice League of America and before that, battle some bad guys on Earth and in space.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Dark Green

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: 1 or 2

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):
“Come on Carol, you know I’m the best to test out Stark’s new toy out there. From what I hear, he is debating of getting out of the weapons side of things. Let me fly his new wings. Who else do you think you can put up there that can push that thing to its limits?”

“THAT is exactly why YOU aren’t going up there, Hal. You would more then likely crash it or come so close that the repairs would be outrageous. In fact, I don’t even want you remotely close to that aircraft. Knowing my luck, just being close to it would cause something wrong to go on with the test flight. I’m sorry, Hal, this is too important for you to do. You may be one of our best pilots but also one of our most reckless. It took me months to get Stark Industries to approve us as its first location for testing. I think they even insisted that one of their own pilots should fly it. It was someone by the name of Rhodes or something like that.”

A very pissed off Jordan stomps off towards his locker grabbing his leather jacket and his keys. He then gets into his car and notices that his green ring which he left inside his car was glowing and beeping. Jordan reluctantly puts it on knowing that either one of the Guardians or Salaak will be on the other end waiting to chew him out for not having the ring on. Jordan sees the figure of Salaak hovering over the ring.

“Lantern Jordan of sector 2814, where have you been? The Guardians have tried to get a hold of you. The planet Xron is in dire need of your help.”

Jordan sighs as he reaches back into the back seat and grabs his battery. To his amazement and probably due to him parking at the far end of the parking lot almost a quarter mile away from everyone else, no one has noticed it even if it is covered in a brown sack. He then proceeds to recite the oath that he was taught on Oa.

“IN Brightest Days, in Blackest Night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil’s might, beware my power, Green Lantern’s Light!”

With his ring fully charged, he flies out of his car and into space to deal with whatever is going on at Xron.

One Earth: The Marvel/DC RPG

Character you would like to play: Doctor Stephen Strange, Sorcerer Supreme

Powers: Mystical in nature, Master of Sorcery

Brief history of the character: Stephen Strange was a very well accomplished neurosurgeon. He was arrogant and rich. One night after work, he was driving and found himself in a car accident. The accident injured his hands. The doctors were able to save his hands but Strange lost the really fine motor control he had which ended his career as a surgeon. He spent his vast fortune trying to find ways to restore what he had lost. This forced him to do very risky and illegal procedures to survive. Strange had learned of someone called the Ancient One and hoped that this person could heal his hands. The Ancient One refused but did offer to train Strange in the mystic ways. Strange refused but after seeing a confrontation between Mordu and the Ancient One, Strange took up the Ancient One’s offer in order to face Mordu on more even grounds. This pleased the Ancient One and spent several years teaching Strange. After he was done, Strange went out to protect not just Earth but the entire dimension from mystic forces.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: I haven’t played Strange in a long time and want another crack at the character.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story: IF we can find a Dr. Fate, have Strange and Fate team up to some degree and maybe even form a “mystical” team similar to Shadowpact.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Brown

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: 1-2 days

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):
In an astral realm, the Phantom Stranger along with the Spectre walks up to the Ancient One.

“It will be interesting to see how your new pupil will do, Ancient One. It is also a little funny that his last name is Strange.”

“It is no more interesting that Dr. Fate is a doctor but of a different degree, Phantom Stranger. These two beings will hopefully keep the magical balance in order.”

“How can you be certain that this Doctor Strange won’t use his powers for vengeance against the one who took the use of his hands from him in the car accident? He could also try to destroy Mordu out of vengeance to make sure that pupil of yours won’t try to mess things up.”

“He will protect this dimension from the many mystical forces that would enjoy making it a playground for themselves or simply destroy it for their pleasure. If I wasn’t too concern about too much power in his possession, more for fear of it being stolen, I would have him search out the helmet of Fate.”

Back on Earth, Strange flips through one of his many books when he felt something in the mystical field of Earth shift. He goes over to his Seeing Globe and says the words to see what he felt. Immediately he sees that his old nemesis Mordu was trying to unleash Dormammu into this realm by sending souls back through the portal. Strange then creates a door which transported him to the location. He and Mordu fought for a long while. Strange did defeat Mordu and released the sent souls back to their proper bodies on Earth. In an effort to get away from Strange, Mordu jumped into the portal which closed right behind him. With the portal closed and Strange exhausted, he return to his home in New York City.

“See, Spectre, Stephen didn’t take out any vengeance against Mordu even though he could have for the trapped souls that Mordu used. He, instead, defeated Mordu and saved Earth from Dormammu. If Strange wasn’t there, it may have fallen to one of you two since I’m no longer able to fight. Stephen is the right person to help lead the mystic heroes of this dimension against whatever is out there to threaten it.”

“Very well, Ancient One, Spectre and I will be keeping a close eye on Stephen Strange and do understand that we do prefer Dr. Fate for this role which they will now share.”

Spectre and Phantom Stranger slowly disappears as the Ancient One continues to watch his newest pupil take up the role of Sorcerer Supreme.

One Earth: The Marvel/DC RPG

Character you would like to play: Titanium Man

Powers: The unknown pilot of the Titanium Man armor shows signs of being very well versed in the art of war, including hand-to-hand combat (although it is hindered to a degree by the simple fact that he's wearing a large thick suit of armor), familiarity with any number of close range and long range weapons, and has a keen tactical mind.

The armor itself grants the pilot a high level of durability that surpasses that of Iron Man. It also allows him enhanced speed, jet powered flight, laser blasts, and strength that rivals Iron Man's own armor.

Brief history of the character: Authorities have reason to believe that the Titanium Man armor originated from designs stolen from Dr. John Henry Irons and fell into the hands of A.I.M. or a similar group of minds, who then developed the designs even further. The result of this unfortunate combination of ideas is the Titanium Man weapon.

Constructed from adamantium, metallo, prometheum, and other alloys (surprisingly little titanium, ironically), the suit is nigh-indestructible. Planned to be stronger and more durable than Iron Man or Steel, at the expense of swiftness and maneuverability, in theory the Titanium Man is meant to fly through a building rather than fly around it.

And that would indeed be the case, if not for the sheer skill of the pilot inside. The unknown man has somehow managed to make this flying tank on steroids into something that could potentially give Superman a run for his money in aerial acrobatics. Combining raw talent with the state of the art weapon of mass destruction that he now wears, the Titanium Man is a threat to anything in its path.

List a few reasons why you have chosen that character: I've come up with a number of long-term story ideas for the character that I'm really interested in developing, plus I'm eager to establish what I hope will be a strong fixture in the world of the game. Also, Titanium Man is awesome.

What are your plans with this character? Do you have a story: Do I have a story? Yes. What are my plans for the character? I'm being intentionally vague here, since the truth of a number of my plans won't be apparent for quite some time, but my hope for right now is to simply set a few foundations for future stories while simultaneously providing a fun villain to fly around and fight heroes with.

Color and font you plan on using for your character's speech: Dark green, bold, System-style font.

How many times do you intend on posting a DAY IN the RPG: As many as necessary for whatever the given circumstance.

Please provide a sample post with original content in the style that you plan to write your character in (must be at least 3 paragraphs long and contains at least 1 line of dialogue):

The rumble under my feet is almost calming at this point. The jet boots have taken a long time to grow accustomed to, but I could practically lie back and relax with them now, if they weren't currently propelling me through the air at great speeds.

Checking my heads up display, I can zoom in to see the target stepping out onto the roof of the Gotham City Police building and walking towards the powerful custom spotlight situated there. Gotham city's protector is a powerful figure in certain circles, but it will not save James Gordon.

"Confirm, base. I have target in sight and he is alone. Verify scans."

"Verified," replies the voice over my radio as they double check to make certain that Gordon has no other guests with him on the rooftop right now, and that the Batman has not yet appeared. I must remember to tell Ra's Al Ghul not to expect any further favors from me in the immediate future. Assassinations are so... common.

Setting down onto a building ledge a block down the street from the GCPD, two halves of an energy blasting sniper rifle automatically eject from the plating around my thighs, and I join the two together. Kneeling down and taking aim, a sigh escapes my lips beneath my helmet. "I have far more important matters that I should be focusing my attention towards." Looking down the scope of the rifle, my finger tightens around the trigger, but I pause. "No. This is indeed beneath me." I stand up and begin breaking the gun apart and folding it away. The difference between Hal Jordan and Titanium Man here is that I'm not changing anyone's origin, as was proposed for Hal back in the application thread. It's simply a new version of the Titanium Man armor that was developed. Anyone can wear it without detracting anything from Boris or Gremlin (just like the mystery wearer who was beaten up by Noh-Varr).

Taskmaster posed as Daredevil in the old Marvel game and no one made a fuss. Bane posed as Batman in Ultimate DC and it was fine. Parasite shapeshifted into Lex Luthor in WoH and life went on. This isn't really any different. :o

Hmm. Looking at the thread and here's an idea.

Maybe we could cut down on the NPCing and name dropping if at all possible? It hasn't gotten that bad yet, and I know we want to establish the world as an interconnected universe, but I'm just throwing it out there before it gets bad. Lots of NPCing in the last game discouraged some folks from picking up characters down the line.

Villains are different. They're easy to use without making lasting impacts on. Name dropping the Fantastic Four before they're established hinders someone who might want to do an origin for their first arc.

Oh yea definitely. Which is why I tried to use lower level people for my Checkmate team, or characters already associated with the group

EDIT: Yea. Just noticed we have name drops of Guy and Stewart as well as Galactus. I don't really think Guy or John would have rings at this poInt. and no one on earth would really know about Galactus

Carnage27
11-22-2011, 08:53 AM
Okay...I'm writing up a new rule dealing with name dropping.

Basically, unless your story hinges on the use of another character, don't randomly throw names out left and right for no reason. Only reference events that have transpired in game or in your own characters origin. If you want to mention something happening dealing with another's character, consult that player.

Failure to do this will result in a GM mandate to edit your post.

Like Byrd said, we don't want every character in use just because you can. Sumowrestler, just as an example, you talked about Guy and John, as well as Galactus. Absolutely no one on Earth would know what Galactus is. Most likely very few Lanterns would either. Galactus's devourings during the Thanagar-Skrull War would have happened thousands of years ago. And at this point, it'd be very unlikely that Guy and John would be Lanterns. Remember, we're very, very early in the heroic age. We don't even have a Robin or other side-kicks.

Again, if it's absolutely story critical, like Plastic Man seems to be for MST3K's Green Arrow, go for it. We don't want to stifle creativity. But name dropping for the sake of name dropping hurts the game as a whole and creates some very messy continuity, which is why I feel this is necessary.

Do others agree?

:doom: :doom: :doom:

Where did I say they were off limits? Please read the post again before getting your panties in a twist.

Do those countries exist in this reality? Yes. They're not off limits.

What we want to stop is people going, "Hey, remember that time Flash and Thor took down Darkseid!? Man, that was awesome.", when that event never took place and the characters haven't been used.

If you have a story that hinges on using an NPC character, go for it. Just try not to completely dictate their origin through your story. Just don't throw around names for ****s and giggles and over complicate characters' histories. It mucks up continuity and dampens other's enthusiasm to pick up a character.

Would make things easier on everyone if Wakanda, Atlantis, Themysciara, and Gorilla City are already known to the world. Else you waste so much time trying to establish their locations and then you have to--for no true good reason--write out their emergence in the world. While you can handle it any way you want there's only so many ways to make it exciting and not cliche.

Just make the world aware of these other world powers I say.

And that's fine. Aquaman would have existed all this time. And if Doom attacks Atlantis, obviously characters like Namor and Aquaman would be involved. What we're saying is, don't go into the characters backstories. Allow for wiggle room with future players. If someone wants to apply for Aquaman down the line, all someone has to do is say, "Just so you know, Doctor Doom declared war on Atlantis in the past and this is what happened." Instead of having to go on a search for a needle in a haystack for all the little pieces of information on the character that different players used for no real reason.

Does the UN know of Atlantis and Wakanda? If I start making deals with Genosha am I accelerating that nations history?

I don't see why they wouldn't know about Wakanda and Atlantis.

Genosha isn't an all mutant state yet. That's for sure. I would assume the apartheid is still going on there.

Again, we're trying to limit people using characters for the hell of it instead of having real good reasons to use them.

:doom: :doom: :doom:

I want everyone to have breathing room.

What I don't want is unnecessary shifts in time and continuity.

Last game we had Wally West as Flash from almost day 1, along with Barry Allen and Jay Garrick, and the GL Corps was a super cluster-cuss of continuity because people felt like name dropping and never going anywhere with what they were doing.

I've seen it time and time again in the old OU, and games like UDC and ASM. Hell I've been guilty of it in the past. People throw out all these names for no other reason that to throw out a name and it mucks things up.

Sure, at this point in time, it's not an issue. The game is young and info is easy to look up. What I want to guard against is the future when someone wants to apply for X and we have to go searching on origin info because Y used them arbitrarily in one post.

But using them in a well crafted story without pigeon holing them into a role is okay.

Because I cannot fathom what it is you are talking about with knowing their current and therefore "future" selves and it being hard not to use in the game rather than the simple foundations of characters to start from.

It just seems like people are always way too concerned with "the first occurrences/appearances/interactions" of people rather than just playing the game. How many times do I really need to see the first time Superman meets Wonder Woman? Comics or RPG.

The problem Byrd seems to have (and I share) have is within the timeline of the game, it just doesn't make sense for ALL the Green Lanterns to be active and there to be a bunch of legacy characters to be running around.

I agree that we don't need to see every origin. But having people like Wally running around just doesn't compute with me when the heroes are just getting their careers of the the ground.

Ok, stopping you before even addressing anything further in your post: if it is something that happens in the FUTURE of comics, it has no presence in the game. For instance, if I was playing Aquaman right now in the OU game, just because I know in the comics that he eventually loses his hand doesn't mean I'm bound to my Aquaman having such a fate.

If this example I'm giving is more what you meant, then I hope that clarifies things. We are NEVER slaves to the comics lore. The only part that we are bound to is the foundations of the characters.

But see..that is something that happens in the comics...this game's X-Men are not bound to do everything that happens in the comics "in their future". I think you are seeing a lot of the stipulation as confining storyline ideas...the foundation of it falls between the characters involved and if they are played by someone then obviously you need that player's consent and such. Only time it is an issue if the character is not being played is if it's alters them and most importantly if it is an permanent dealie. Heck, in DC I did an arc where Aquaman no longer was in existence because of something his villains did. It was obviously temporary though, and such. So it worked.

That's how I see it, playing in these games for as many years as I have an being a GM and AGM in games.

I was just hackin' on you guys. If I want a power ring, I'll just go take one. Or I'll build my own.

To be honest, I'm looking at the Indigo Tribe.

This should be the mandatory GM response to any conversation that starts going around in circles.

Just write the damn stories, people. The GM's will bring their concerns up to you and you can hash it out then.

You know, I wish we spent as much time posting in the IC thread as we didn't nitpicking over bull****. If that were the case, we'd already have a thousand goddamn posts by now.

We've been fairly good about posting so far. I will say that.

There's only 2 characters that don't have posts so far.

As for Hal mentioning Galactus, it is part of the GLC history and possible that Jordan did hear about it from one of the older Lanterns. I understand the dangers of name dropping and I've contacted players before I've used actual character names for most part. For my next post for Strange, I would like to post with Xavier and possibly set up an early stage for Marvel's Illuminati by showing that Strange is at least aqauinted with Xavier and what he is doing. Strange won't know the names of the students or the going ons but will understand what Xavier is trying to do with mutant kind.

I brought this issue up to Byrd originally because I remember someone in the last game used so many NPCs that I don't remember who they were even playing, and it kept me from picking up many a character because that poster had already used them, and kind of twisted them to suit their story. Not saying it's happened already, but the influx of heavy name-dropping made me think of that, and I think we'd all prefer that stuff like that be dealt with proactively.

Yeah, I kinda regret name-dropping Otto Octavius as working with Banner. Unlike Sam Sterns and Albert Michaels, who I have story plans for, Octavius was there purely because I thought that it would be a neat cameo. His appearance is so inconsequential that I wouldn't object if someone applied for him and had something completely different in mind for the character and requested that I edit him out.

Yea...but your still talking about it like Green Arrow would have any freaking idea what Galactus is. And I still don't think Stewart and Gardener would have rings at this point.

See...this tells me you don't really understand the dangers of name dropping. Is there a need at all for Strange and Xavier talking? Or are you just doing it for the hell of it?

It's a valid concern, SF.

Yeah, I mean the Illuminati in season one? Before we're even five damn pages into the new universe.

In fairness, the Illuminati was a retroactive story. We didn't know they met up early until much later.

I know, but still why have an Illuminati when we're still in the infancy of the superhero boom? I thought the whole point of the group was when they all realized that the superhero **** was too big for each and every superhero to check themselves.

Plus, it's not like they're an actual team. It'd be like RPing a city council meeting.

Not really. I say just let the JL/Avengers have a chance to form. To me it makes a whole hell of a lotta sense for the JL/Avengers embody the optimism of the the new superheroes. When **** goes bad and people see how real it actually is, that's when the Illuminati can begin to form.

I'm not saying that the Illuminati needs to form immediately but simply drop seeds to use much later down the road. As for using Xavier, the idea is to have Strange strongly hint that any magical based people who aren't really mutants be sent his way. The only one who might half way qualify for that is Scarlett Witch since I'm not sure if she is a mutant, magic user, or a mixture of the two. As for the whole NPC thing, right now that is all Strange would have to work with at this current point. I still would like to get some sort of a semi-team of magicians when the likes of Dormammu comes knocking or some of the more demonic side.
