Lex Luthor died in Arctic. That is how I see it. It was nice to see him again in the finale but he wasn't used properly and then they wiped his memory. Forget season 8.

They had to find a way for him to lose knowledge of Clark's secret to Line up with Iconic Lex Luthor.I would have had him lose some of his most recent memorys after the fortress
collorpsed.
The Incredible Hulk

I disagree. They said everything they needed to say to one another in the scene in the burned down Luthor Mansion. They had an understanding with each one having enough leverage over the other to make everything a bit more of a fair fight, with Lex having no real reason to divulge Clark's secret to the World. This scene was perfect.

It was a bit of a bad move there. They should have left it he knows but keeps it to himself as a trump card over clark.

Np problem hulk.
Rosenbaum's Lex officially became a true villian for me because of my own reaction to the first Lex/Lana strip down scene in S6, where they're standing by the fireplace getting ready to do the deed. Ughhh...it was kindof gross.
I know right there and then that Rosenbaum was the best.

Lex getting his leg over cemented him as the greatest villain of all time!!!
Sawyer
04-09-2012, 02:13 AM
I do wish that the bulk of Lex's turn against Clark hadn't revolved around an ill-concieved love triangle between Lex, Lana and Clark. Otherwise, love him. Just about neck and neck with Clancy Brown for me.
Gene Hackman, as great of an actor as he may be, comes fairly close to the bottom of the list.

I like to think Lex died when the fortress collapsed. I try to pretend Lex in season 8 and the finale didnt happen. Seeing the actor in the finale was great, but wiping his memory and the process combining parts from clones to come back to life is silly.

Rockstar

The only thing close to it that happened was Lex getting cancer from Kryptonite exposure in the 1990s.
He created a clone (Lex Luthor II) and had his brain transferred into that body.
http://cdn.ifanboy.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Lex-Luthor-II.jpg
Smallville's Lex actually died in the truck explosion.
The new Lex from the finale is a combination of the best parts of the Lex clones. Franken-Lex.
I would have preferred Lex to have stayed alive till Season 9 at least, and have Zod kill him off. The Oliver murder thing went nowhere.
Llama_Shepherd

It's actually possible the Lex that appeared in Requiem was a clone. Because when the real Lex is having his memory wiped, he has no memory of the encounter in Season 8.
Lex's disappearance almost had to be written the way it was, Rosenbaum just didn't want to come back.
Rockstar
07-05-2012, 07:42 PM
That's probably because the cloned Lex Luthor from the finale was created from DNA from BEFORE "Requiem."
It wouldn't make sense for him to have memories of those events.
It's just like how Zod and his cloned army's last memories are from when their DNA was taken.
It also wouldn't make sense for the Lex from Requiem to have been a clone. They confirmed onscreen that his injuries were from the Fortress collapse and he was after the suit as his lifeline to recovery.

Why couldn't they just have him disappear after the fortress collapse. He is missing, then eventually declared dead. Then returns for the finale.
Webhead2006
07-05-2012, 09:17 PM
And back then many of us where going with theory that lex could have been a clone. Hell we know in tenth he had a lot of clones. So it could have if they wanted it to be a not fully forrmed clone we saw then. Plus that could have been an cool angle to go with since we had clones going far back to emily dinsmore.

This would have been the simplest solution but the smallville producers loved to complicate things....

Well we had that to they blew up lex in 8th season. And they probably did that just cause they had no clue if michael would agree to return. I still would have liked and thought they have alexander just grow into michael lex and stop rapid aging and there we have lex of old in new body and go from there.
Prison Mike
07-13-2012, 06:23 PM
What they should have done was give Lex a proper exit at the end of season 7. But since they didn't, they should have just left it alone until they knew 100% for sure Michael would be returning. The easiest solution was to just say Lex disappeared after the FOS fell and was taking the time to heal.

How could there be any surviving Lex bits from this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJkXCDw5y5Y&feature=player_detailpage#t=277s
There's definitely no way his brain would have survived that for sure. If they had to clone Finale Lex's brain, he's basically a clone.
I think their biggest mistake with Lex, before the mindwipe, was bringing him back in S8 without Rosenbaum. I felt like they only did it because Kreuk returned.
The best thing to have done during those years is kept Lex (the real Lex) cryogenically frozen somewhere.

Who cares if the current lex is a clone in the Smallvilleverse. Up until the current reboot, the Lex that had been in the comics for years had also been nothing but a series of clones with his mind being transplanted into the new clones brain.
It's nothing new with Lex Luthor.

I've always been stubborn about the Lex thing, I've always believed that the Lex we see in the finale is the original Lex with clone parts. Thats what I assumed the Lx0 meant, the original Lex. Its perfect in my mind and I won't listen to anyone else's theories! :p

I wouldn't say he's better than Hackman, although I did like his version of the character better...Hackman was playing a completely different character for the script of S:TM, and he did wonderfully. To this day one of my favorite movies (and probably the one I own on the most kinds of media).

Ditto. Nobody's better than Rosey. People always point out Clancy Brown, just as they do with Mark Hamill for the Joker compared to Ledger, but when it comes to live-action Michael has no equal. This guy was just captivating.
