Agility has definitely been used, but free flow is about more than just switching from enemy to enemy. Free flow is about having a one focused flow through the enemies where the movement feels linked throughout the flow. In spider-man games the movement doesn't really feel linked and it feels like spidey is just beating up everybody.Which I did a lot in Spider-Man 3

I would actually say that the spidey combat system closest to free flow is the web strike system from WoS. Not too many similarities, but still closer to free flow than anything else in spider-man games.Nope, sorry Jon

LOL how can you tell off of this one pic.

I know you are quoting someone who said "it must be" but I think most of us really want that "freeflow" type mechanic because it would suit Spidey's abilities so well. He is so incredibly acrobatic and agile that if you can imagine him plugged into that combat system, well, it would be epic. I don't think this pic states "it must be freeflow" however I hope it is relaying that info.

so this doesn't count as agility begin utilized in combat? none of the moves he does in terms of switching between multiple enemies can be classified as "freeflow" combat

Spida-man, Yes, it DOES count as Spidey being agile in combat. In your examples, Spider-man is moving at a fast rate across the screen, moving in ways that only he can do. I don't think that anyone here, myself included would debate this issue. Spidey has had several games where he moves with great agility.

And I do understand what you're trying to say about the freeflow mechanic, because you just hit the attack button and aim the direction stick however you want and can attack multiple enemies. However, the "freeflow" mechanic in the Arkham games is different because it's not a button mashing affair and actually has a smoother transition between movements. Although I have seen vids on youtube with people playing arkham city and just mashing the attack button (it looks friggin stupid). It's all about how the player decides to play the game.

The Batman gameplay mechanic when done properly is a better system IMO.

I'd say Freeflow is a combat system that... y'know, flows freely.

While the combat was good in some of the past Spidey games, it hasn't quite nailed it yet. Something along the lines of a Freeflow mechanic, like what UltimateWebhead said would be EPIC for a Spidey game.

They are examples of agility, but not necessarily the "Free-Flow" combat system.

I completely agree. Just imagine combining the FreeFlow combat system of the Rocksteady Batman games with Spider-Sense warning and dodging system of some of the past Spider-Man games (like Spider-Man 2), and I think that it could be a truly amazing Spider-Man experience.

At least we get a proper explanation of what that Web "Rush stuff" isJacob Berg asked to our Lead Game Designer if there will be any gameplay mechanics being introduced in the game. Here’s your answer Jacob!

Hi Jacob! Yes, we introduce an all-new gameplay mechanic called the Web Rush, which gives players real-time navigational and combat choices. Web Rush can be triggered on the fly, at any moment and immediately presents you with a variety of situational choices, letting you pull off Spidey’s signature moves like never before.

I seriously don't see how free flow would work in a spidey game. its fun and works great in the Arkham games, but the way spidey moves and fights I just can't see the free flow mechanic working.

I mean it's possible they could find a way to make it work, but IMHO the combat mechanics in WoS so far has been the best combat we have had in a Spider-Man game EVER. It makes me really feel like spidey during combat.

At least we get a proper explanation of what that Web "Rush stuff" is

It's a very "vanilla' explanation and really doesn't tell you very much other than the fact that it's a gameplay mechanic that can be triggered at any time. There will be a greater/deeper explanation of what it actually is sometime in the future but the best explanation would be a visual one.

Have you played Arkham City as catwoman?? If you have, just imagine something like that only with Spidey-esque poses, jumps, kicks, web shots, web lines pulling and throwing foes, poses etc., instead of her cat-like movements. They basically already have the spidey sense thing going on with the little icons over the heads of the guys attacking you. It would be awesome IMO.

i have, i own the collector's edition, but i just don't see the mechanic working for Spidey.

in terms of how the button layout is anyway.

cause i mean in past spidey games we already have a combat mechanic somewhat similar to free flow in the sense of pressing certain buttons to pull off a particular attack, and taking down multiple enemies by moving the analog stick in the direction u want to go, combined with web attacks, wall attacks, air and ground attacks, (basically the combat system in WoS) i think what we have had before works fine.

i could see it needing a little tweeking but not by much

Yeah, I get what you're saying but I just think the combat mechanics in Arkham city have a smoother transition to them over those in past Spidey games. We probably won't get a replication of the same system found in AC but I'd prefer them to take a cue from those mechanics and apply them to TAS.

The button layout may work. You have an attack button, a counter button, you can use web shots or web lines just as Bats uses his gadgets, you can have double button combos for nifty spinning Spidey moves or critical takedowns. I dunno. I'm not a game designer but it could work. It's possible IMO.

Freeflow is similar to the combat system in a few of the Spidey games... I guess. It's just miles smoother than the combat system in Spidey games.

If Batman gets a combat system that smooth, Spidey sure as hell should.

Seeing how Spidey moves in this game has given me hope though.

Yeah with good graphics I think that Electro would be really cool to see in this game. I personally like the way he is shown in Ultimate Universe and the Spectacular Spider-man show but any version of Electro will do. Also I think i remember seeing something about beenox using new villains or something? if thats the case its probably because they don't want to use any villains that will be in the next movies. But still, Spidey has plenty of villains, they can use the less popular ones like the one that probably won't appear in a movie

I'm not even enjoying the free-roam, to be honest. It's not enough that the game has free-roam in it if the controls are over-sensitive. It kind of reminds me of the new Sonic games where the speed of travel impedes the ability to really direct and control it. It's irritating! lol

To be Honest, I bought it yesterday and already want to return it. lol It feels like the entire team who made the "Separation Anxiety" games and stuff from the 90's (when the Symbiote craze was really popular) were given the PS3 hardware and somebody shouted "MAKE ME A SPIDEY GAME HOLY **** PISS ****!!!" without explaining anything to them.

I'm going to go ahead and bet that it has something to do with the Lizard. Even if he dies at the end of the movie his effects could still be happening.

Maybe the same stuff that transforms the SWAT team into lizards gets into the water supply or is being mixed with other stuff? I assume that Oscorp would still have his research. Or maybe Curt will be cured by the end of the movie?

Web of Shadows is just plain bad, and you can't even call it free roam. There are many times in the course of the game where if you try to leave a certain part of the city, they pull you back or tell you to return.

Plus, NYC in that game was very small and not very interesting in terms of exploring and fighting regular street crime.

The fighting is highly repetitive after the first few minutes and the story is convoluted and uninteresting.

The fight mechanics suck and relies mainly on button mashing. The Web strike mechanic is the best part of the game but even that is barely redeemable.

I enjoy playing the PS1 Neversoft Spider-man more than I do that and that one was made back when the technology was way more limited.

I have a Wii, but I got the 3DS version since it's on sale and I need to get 3DS games, otherwise there's not much point in having a 3DS although the main reason I asked for it was because it looks nice.

You should get an XBOX when and if you can. The console version of the Spudey games are always better, especially on XBOX and PS3.

For example, the PS3 and XBOX 360 version of SM3 the game was fantastic, especially on the PS3 and with the Classic collection version of the XBOX 360 one as they let you play the story as Harry/New Goblin.

Agreed.

For a long, long time, thugs in video games were always ugly white guys. (i.e. Neversoft's Spider-man).

Any ways, I don't think the game developers pay that much attention to it. They just want a good thug design to put in the game.

Well, I have thought about getting a job, but there's the issue of how much vacation time I would get since my family likes to go on vacation a lot and I would at least like to have Saturdays or Sundays off so I can relax or visit my bff. Also, I can only stand up for like 30 minutes. I don't know how often people get breaks or if they're expected to be able to stand up for most of the day. Maybe I can get a job babysitting, but I would not take care of an infant or someone who isn't toilet trained. My birthday is April 18th, but I may end up getting a Kindle even though I don't want one. My mom wants me to have one so it'll take up less space. I prefer actual books though and most of the books I read are the Marvel Masterworks Spider-Man books, which I'm pretty sure you can't get on a Kindle. Don't know if I would get a PS3 or an XBox anyway, since I already have a Wii.

The thing about the Wii is that it, unlike the GameCube or the N64 before it, really doesn't have nearly the same level of hardware capability as the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 it's competing with, and thus ports aren't easy to do. They have to accommodate the hardware limitations, and thus, the games are often downgraded.

I didn't know that. What makes it different from the regular Wii? Whenever something new comes out, they still make games for the last thing that came out for a couple of years and the new thing always has backwards capability. That's issue with the hardware is exactly why Nintendo is going over to the Wii U.

They lost the core gaming audience and they know it. They are upgrading radically to compete and abandoning every thing that made the original Wii unique. Even the controller. The games also won't be backwards compatible.

Well, that stinks. Definitely not gonna sell my Wii now, since I wanna be able to keep the games I currently have. Luckily, the 3DS version of a game is the same as the console versions, so there's no reason to upgrade, unless maybe the gameplay is different. The simple truth is that most games on hand helds are nothing like the console versions.

As far as the Wii goes, those games usually and mostly are not like the XBOX/PS3 version.

As far as 3DS and DS goes, there's a chance they might be the same thing. You might want to check on that before preordering both.

One thing out of many that I have learned in life, is that if you want something...you go get it. Make it happen. If you want a PS3 or 360, scrap together some cash and go get it. Sell/trade in the Wii, don't get a kindle for your Bday or if you do, sell or trade it, go get a job.

Seriously...how old are you? Why don't you have a job? I understand the economy is still kind of in the crapper but come on...go flip burgers or something. You're not gonna get a job because you're worried about not being able to go on vacations?? What world do you live in?

Whatever. Do what you want. :csad:

I'm 19 and my not having a job has nothing to do with the economy. I don't have to have a job because my parents have said since I'm good [unlike my brother who they're trying to make get a job or move out] I don't have to get a job. Also, it depends on the hours. it'd be nice to have extra money, but there's no point in having a job if I have hardly any time to spend the money. I also don't know if I'm ready for a job. I started homeschooling cause 8+ hours of doing something I didn't enjoy was just too much for me. It might be cool to work at GameStop or maybe try babysitting, but still. Also, you don't know my mom. I will try to talk her out of the kindle, at least for my birthday, but she will get me something I don't want or really need. So for now, a job is just something I like to think about. And I'm not gonna sell my Wii because I spent a lot of good money [well, actually it was mostly trade in credit, but still] to get the games I have and still like to play, so I'm not gonna sell it.

Agreed. I prefer not to trade in my consoles as well unless its broken then there's no reason not to outside of sentimental value.

I will point this out though. I don't work either but by categorizing my games and trading in ones I know I won't play again and the ones I will play again/have loads of replay value.

Also, I almost ALWAYS trade in a game if I'm bored with it our a superior sequel is about to be released.

This how I usually get money for games considering I don't work either.

I traded nearly ten games back in October in order to get Batman: Arkham City.

And I don't think I'll ever trade in any of my Spidey games, even the few I don't like nearly as much as others. Like my psp Spider-Man 2 game. Even though I found it kinda boring since it was way too easy and recycled stuff from the console versions of the first and second games, I still like it cause it's Spider-Man.

You are 19 yrs old. You are a LEGAL adult. You are capable of doing things without the consent of your parents.

I honestly do not understand this logic. Holding a job is more than just "making money," it is also about learning responsibility. It's about learning how to earn something thru hard work and diligence. There's no better feeling than to get that paycheck at the end of two weeks, because you earned it...because you worked for it. Having a job teaches you so much about making progress, learning trades, communication skills, etc. etc. etc.

If I would have told my Dad that I didn't have to get a job at 19 because I was 'good,' he would have kicked my ass.

The combat sucked, he wasn't acrobatic at all, he was about as stiff as they come, Tobey sounded ridiculously bored, the wise cracks were awful. Thats what was bad about Spider-Man himself, the game on a whole just incredibly boring. The side missions were pathetically bad, the main story missions were pathetically bad. The only good thing about that game was indeed the free roam but I prefer it more in the Ultimate Spider-Man because at least that game felt alive.

It will not be a demo. And have you read some of the comments from those on the FB page?? It is populated by inarticulate morons with little to no sense of what they are even talking about. I like how they state "Now's the time to ask our lead game designer questions about the upcoming TAS." And they get responses like, "Shattered Dimensions was awesome!" or "Is der gunna B xtra costumes?" or "When are they gonna release more content for EoT?"

The devs are releasing their Beta. This will most likely go to places like IGN or Gamespot or whatever and we will hopefully get some preview hands-on articles in the next few weeks. This is encouraging because they are prob doing it so they can get feedback on changing up a few things or fine tuning the game to be of a higher standard. I highly doubt anything will be available for general public consumption.

No one is saying it's wrong, Aziz...just that it's not likely. Also, I'd rather them spend more time on the finished product rather than waste time with a demo. However, that being said, if there was a demo it would be advantageous because WE the fans would be able to submit OUR feedback and THAT is what is key.

The only game I hated Toby in was Spider-Man 3, but that game was a travesty. In my opinion the best Spidey voice will always be Rino Romano, from the PS1 Spider-Man games and the Spider-Man: Unlimited TV Series.

Tobey didn't really have a good Spider-Man voice, imo. It's too monotone for Spider-Man. When I think of Spider-Man's voice, I expect something with energy and a kick to it, like Josh Keaton and Rino Romano's Spider-Man voice.

Although, Tobey's voice did work for a Spider-Man who doesn't quip.

He's my favorite for Ultimate Spider-Man, but the next time Beenox uses 616 Spidey in a game, they need to see if they can get Rino back.

in terms of current work I thought he was great as 2099 but idk if I would want him to voice spidey in a serious game. to me his voice would fit spidey more so in a somewhat funny/silly/goofy game. like Friend or Foe

I agree and disagree. I'm REALLY diggin Josh as the voice of Spidey in recent games but I do sorely miss Rino

So it's pretty much Andrew voicing the role of Spidey in TAS game?? As long as he gives a passion filled performance much like Keaton, it'll be good.

Fan Question #3 answered by Rodolphe, our Lead Game Designer. Josh C. Hoeck asked if the combat system would be different from our previous games.

Hi Josh! Yes, the combat system has been fully redesigned to give the player a much deeper and more realistic experience than previous Spider-Man games. We’ve put all our efforts into avoiding the button mashing syndrome. We are also integrating the new Web Rush gameplay mechanic that will allow the player to execute acrobatic and combat combinations like never before. Are you ready to experience what it’s truly like to have Spider-Man’s powers? :)Bah, all games are button mashers

In my opinion the best Spidey voice will always be Rino Romano, from the PS1 Spider-Man games and the Spider-Man: Unlimited TV Series. He's one of the best 3 imo, maybe the one I say most if asked who's the Spider-Man voice now

I thought SM3 was overall a really bad game, so I don't blame it all on Tobey, since I liked his voice acting in the second game.

I really wish for Rino Romano's return, someday. I'm honestly getting tired of Josh Keaton for some reason.

That's quite a lot. He voiced Peter in all of the episodes, plus MvC3.

I just don't want him to be the main guy to voice Spidey whenever a new product is coming out. He is great, but there are other great people, too.

I'm happy Drake Bell will do the voice for the next Spidey in the TV. Let's see how he goes.

No. It all comes down to the player. You can have a rich full gaming experience by taking advantage of all the combos, special moves, and other attacks available to you or you can simply hit the light-attack button over and over again. It looks incredibly stupid and it's certainly not fun that way. That's not how I like to play...I make strong use of all the options and make awesome combos.

Josh Keaton could be like Kevin Conroy, occassionally voicing the character in some new projects, while still letting other VAs have their chance in others.

Easily one of the dumbest about any game

Yeah, but it's a ***** remembering all the combos, that's why it becomes a button masher. I don't want to check my combolist in middle of a fight.

The Arkham combat is good because it invests in the main moves rather than in a million extra combos. You don't have to remember many combos, yet you can do cool moves just by timing your basic moves right. Of course there's also special combos, but they have a purpose and aren't hard to remember either! "Press triangle + O at the same time for a special takedown" and so on.

in button masher games like Spider-man 3 you have oh so many combos, but it's not like your gonna remember them, after a while you just button mash your way through fights, and no matter what kind of flips or tricks spider-man does to hit his enemies, in the end they are just punching bags. In arkham games you feel more interactive with the enemies and it feels more likea real fight, the moves he does have a purpose. In spiderman it doesn't matter if you do super combo #4 or #13 cause there is no purpose and no tactical advantage with either one, that's not real fighting...

I agree with you about having to remember a ton of button combos to pull off an array of moves. That certainly can get in the way for making smooth transitions and what not. It's still up to the player to make things happen regardless. That's how I play though...I will make it a point to remember everything and study them to make sure I have them at my fingertips whenever I feel the need to whip off that particular move. If you don't...that's fine, but you're not taking full advantage of the game.

I think the combat in Arkhma City is both deep, realistic and fun. It's very easy to string together awesome combos with out having to remember too much in the way of button combinations. Again, I do the same thing with this game as I do others. I remember all my attack combos and can whip out anything I want at any time cause it's all under my fingers...muscle memory.

That being said I have watched numerous videos on youtube with people playing AC. There are morons out there that play AC just by button mashing. It looks ridiculously stupid. All they do is keep mashing the attack button and occasionally hit the counter attack. They never use any special moves or gadgets. At times bats is just whiffing at the air and it looks so dumb. Just because AC has this great combat mechanic doesn't mean that people always use it properly. It's really sad to watch them waste the game playing with horrible mashing garbage. But again, it's all up to the player to make things happen.

I agree with you Aziz but IGN is much more popular. More people pay IGN's site a visit than Beenox/HeroHQ...unless you're a Spidey fan, there's a good chance you're not gonna go to those two websites.

And I am sure they have a good reason for bringing this 'big' reveal to IGN.
