I can die now honestly.
Glad for Real Madrid I really am, in recent seasons in that La Liga & in particular the Classico it has been ruined & dogged by playacting & daftness from both sides, but mostly Barcelona. I am glad they've been taken down a peg.
People saying Ronaldo stepped out of Messi's shadow tonight amused me as well, hes never been in his shadow, Ronaldo's been every bit as good as Messi in recent seasons in my opinion. His goalscoring record in relation to the number of games hes played is just as good & considering the quality in the rest of both teams, I'd say Ronaldo's is more impressive as I believe Barcelona have the better team on paper.. Mourinho is similar to Sir Alex Ferguson though & can get the best out of players that would struggle to get onto other sides.

Agreed. I think the reason people undermine Ronaldo's results in comparison to Messi's is because most people perceive Cristiano as this rich, spoilt and arrogant douche, while seeing Messi as some kind of humble, everyday guy. The truth is, Ronaldo has improved gradually both as a footballer and in terms of attitude during the past several years (the fact that he's been managed by SAF AND Mourinho couldn't have hurt). He's even become more of a team-player this season. I remember being very bitter when he left United, but now I couldn't be more happier for him, as the move's seen him become an even better player and as you said, just as good as Messi. Not that I believe that he couldn't have continued his development at United, mind you. It's also nice to see him contribute heavily during the big matches regularly now.

Big day in football, very cagey game between Arsenal and Chelsea with RVP's scoring boots again left at home. There was a moment late on when Sturridge broke down the right and I watched Torres, instead of getting into the box for a cross he hung back around the 18 yard area to the right, his instincts just seem shot.
Spurs look lost, they are devoid of ideas in the final third and have no confidence.
The bottom continues to be tight, Wigan's loss to Fulham after their recent feats is a blow to them, while QPR and Blackburn have life lines.
Real Madrid executed Mourinho's tactics perfectly and his team put in a huge performance, I don't think I've seen Ozil work so hard and Benzema is a player transformed, really pleased to see Ronaldo come up big for Real in a Classico, he took his goal superbly.
Guardiola's choices were bizarre, he left Tello on ages despite clearly being out of his depth, he waited too long to put Sanchez on who has been Mesi's main foil all season, and he took Xavi off and in the end had something like a 3-1-6 formation.

Ohhh what a suprise, MOTD are usually the first to show players diving, yet Scott Parkers pathetic effort from yesterday is strangely omitted. :whatever:
As much as I'd love to see Newcastle get 4th, I just think with City and Chelsea to play they haven't got a big enough cushion from Spurs and Chelsea. However even 6th would still be an incredible achievement. Just wonder what Ashley's plan will be for the summer, saying that it's been a hell of a turnaround for the cockney mafia!

Glad I'm not the only one thinking this, our link up play upfront was superb, Nani, Rooney, Valencia and Welbeck looked sharp. I didn't even think our defence were terrible, it was yet again our midfield that were overpowered. Fellaini, Pienaar and Osman thoroughly won that battle, and it just made them dangerous everytime. :csad:

I'm hoping Barca dominate completely with 200 shots on goal and are 2-0 up going into injury time. Then Didier Drogba dives in the penalty box nowhere near any other players and lands hands first on the ball and it bobbles towards the net to which the linesman awards a goal even though it's nowhere near crossing the line. FIFA after the match say they will bring forward goal line technology. :word:
Edit: and then Messi gets sent off for timewasting even though they're losing.

The penalty is missed by the best player in the world. The reigning champions tighten the screw for 30 minutes. Ivanovic is out of the final. He got carded or something. He is done along with Terry.
Cahill is your best bet. That back 4 will have problems against Real Madrid...But an offensive attack like Chelsea's could make up for it...

Inspired performance from Chelsea in one of the most dramatic games I've ever seen, I don't even like them and I was on the edge of my seat cheering them on, I actually celebrated like a fan when Torres scored, what a moment for him considering the last 18 months and that fact he was a walking disaster for the other 10 minutes he was on.
Chech was the coolest man on the pitch, the two RB's were superb at CB, Drogba and Lampard were resolute, and Di Matteo showed his nous with the Kalou for Mata substituition, as Mata was pointless in a game like this as he lacks pace on the break.
The class of Ramirez finish under that pressure on top of just getting the yellow that means he'll miss the final cannot be underplayed, it's as good as you'll ever see, and IMO was the key moment as it gave Chelsea something to hold on to as they regrouped for the 2nd half.
On a side note Barca's lack of a plan B was really exposed tonight.
Yeah, I'm hoping for a win honestly. We need that 6 point cushion. Those games against Swansea and Sunderland are not going to be easy.
I'd love a win as I think we are looking shakey right now, but a point at least keeps us within grabbing distance.

Cech, what a keeper. One of the guys I was always confident in. I thought the RBs would have no chance but I guess the way Barcelona play you don't really need hulking English style CBs as much as you would against most other teams (German for eg). Kalou I thought was one of the only players who was a bit lacklustre in his desire to win/keep balls but I couldn't watch every minute (work) so I may have missed moments. Big congrats to Di Matteo though. I wonder what he'll be doing next season.

Well I thought it was foolish to write off Chelsea the way the media did before the match. Still, they were definitely underdogs and especially having a man sent off and down 2-0. Here, here.
Fantastic result for Chelsea & they played exactly how I think any team should play against Barcelona. Some of the better teams in the world, United for example in both finals, tried to outplay Barcelona at their own game & got taken to school. What they should of done is play to their strengths, stay settled & compact at the back, let them have the ball as much as they want, but make sure they pass it out wide as they have zero threat in the box in the air in my opinion. Messi, Villa, Sanchez etc shouldn't be beating any credible & powerful centre back in the air.
Then put simply, play to your teams strength, in Chelsea's case it would be hoof the ball up to Drogba to hold up & unsettle the defenders.
When he went off for Torres I did actually think Torres would be the one that costs them a goal as his defensive ability is poor, however he showed his class with a cool finish when it mattered.. his £50m fee will have been paid back in full to Abramovich with that goal alone. I'm glad for him, I hate how he has been criticised & abused by many for his large fee & low goal return while Andy Carroll has slipped under the radar completely because hes English.
That being said the hard work isn't finished because they'll either be playing the better Spanish team at least this season anyway, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich who are very dangerous. They've a number of suspensions thanks for Barcelona players falling all over the place, it will be a tall order to beat either.
After what happened to Terry in Moscow you would think he'd do everything in his power to make things right in a Champions League campagn.. instead he idiotically knees Sanchez in the back for seemingly no reason at all. He deserved his red & he almost cost his team badly. Doesn't deserve to play in a final after doing that.. utter stupidity I felt.
Did you guys see the video of Geoff Shreeves breaking Ivanovic's heart? What a douche.

As for the others I don't know what fixture they have but I guess they're relying on Villa to drop quite a few more points.
Haha.
Villa are away to West Brom, home to Tottenham and finish the season away at Norwich. I see them losing at least 2 of those 3.
QPR have the toughtest road ahead though, Chelsea, Stoke and City.
Wigan has the easiest IMO, Newcastle, Blackburn and Wolves.

Did the Barcelona fans applaud Torres' goal or Chelsea's performance? (I couldn't watch continuously at the end)

Saying that ALL 3 clubs (including Bolton) would have to make up the 2/3 points difference on Villa who also have the better goal difference so it will take some doing to get them down.

I see Cesc has already come out with the typical "unjust" loss garbage.
"Unjust" with one extra man and getting a penalty for a dive. How terrible.

Well, my poor old heart has just recovered (thanks for the concern guys :yay:).
Great night for any Chelsea fan, and nice to see fans from other clubs (except Spidey-Dude perhaps) appreciating the performance for what it was under the circumstances: Bloody amazing.
Seriously, with Cahill already off then Terry stupidly got himself sent off, and Barca scored the 2nd soon after....I was fearing a cricket score looming against the 10 men. Then Lampard puts in a superb pass to Ramirez who delivers a cool as a cucumber finish that was the best goal of the game.
As noted that meant we had something we could defend for the 2nd half, and boy did they have to. But they did the club proud, and justice was served when Messi missed the Pen as, ironically after the fuss some made over Drogba in the first game, Fabregas dived to to win it.
And agree with anyone who thinks the Torres goal certainly was relevant: Every Chelsea fan remembers that night 3 years ago when Iniesta blasted home Barca's winner in injury time and you can sure as hell bet we were fearing history could repeat itself again. The Torres goal ended that fear there and then. Game over, and thank the footballing Gods for it.
Just a shame that we won't have Ramirez or Ivanovic for the final (That pundit is a complete ###t, btw...After making a point of pissing on Ivan's parade he tried to to do the same with Di Matteo, who politely ducked his doom & gloom crap over the suspensions). Terry will also be missed, Miereles...not so much, lol.
Anyways, Like I said, a great night for any Chelsea fan, and any fan of Gary Neville sounding like he is having a massive orgasm when Torres scored :woot: My own reaction was not entirely dissimilar...

I hate how easily the refs are influenced at the Camp Nou. He gave Cech a yellow for time wasting when, admittedly he was taking his time getting the goal kick off but it wasn't blatant. I mean, it was only the 60th minutes. The fans whistling had a lot to do with that yellow card. Also, the fans whistling when Cahill went down. It was obvious to anyone Cahill was actually injured.
Also, Alexis Sanchez sure caught the diving bug rather quickly at Barcelona. I'm not even talking about the Terry incident either.

The Van Persie sending off for timewasting 0.2 seconds after the whistle was blown was possibly the worst.

As for being true to their style ok but have fun not scoring against Chelsea with 11 men & 2 CBs in the CB position.

Yeah. I can't imagine watching a match like this if I was a fan of one of the teams.
I hope Torres can kick on from this and get back to his old self.
You may be experiencing it soon if your team keeps progressing as it is.
Boswinga's spped of movement was useful at CB as it turned out and Ivanovic did really well as he's prone to a foul or 8 and a big guy can struggle with the little Barca players. It'll be interesting to see if this goal will finally snap Torres out of his funk.
It was crucial. It meant Chelsea could defend. If they had needed that goal later on I think they would have conceded quite a few with 10 men stretched trying to attack as well as defend.
The boost in hope and resolve it must have given the half time team talk is immeasureable, he's had a good second season for Chelsea and has potential to be a key player in the rebuilding that is inevitable over the next season or two.
Yeah, they just don't/can't play long ball/direct whatever the situation!
Seems Fabregas and co have this delusional idea that the way they play is the only way to play.
Well, my poor old heart has just recovered (thanks for the concern guys :yay:).

That wasn't a hand, it hit him in the head. And it wasn't offside because you can't be offside in your own half, which is where Fernando started making the run.

The handball I'd need to see a closer clearer shot of it. Would be ###king ironic if it was considering the Volleyball Barca were getting away with 3 years ago at the bridge :cwink:

I think alot of guys aren't getting the credit they deserve, you'd think Lampard had done everything. I mean Sky saying he was the best outfield player? Ahead of Ramires who not only scored but was awesome at right back, making tackles and winning every header. I thought Meireles and Mikel were magnificent, everytime Barca got to the 18 yard box, they along with Frank stopped anything going through the middle. Cech's anticipation was fantastic, it's his best performance since probably Barca at the Bridge in '05.
Nice to see that Cesc wasn't just an absolute c*** at Arsenal.
Indeed. I'm kinda glad Lampard is leading the team as captain for the final.

It's up there. The emotion of the night makes it easy to think yes, but that is a bit of a dis-service to past teams that have fought some great battles.
Under the circumstances they faced on the night though, self inflicted as one of them was, and it being against Barcelona at the Nou Camp to boot, it gets the nod for now.
Unbelievable match for Chelsea.
