Another comic-centric element of the currently-filming Iron Man 3 (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=70865) has been revealed, thanks to new set photos at io9 (http://io9.com/5916478/iron-man-3-set-photos/gallery/1). As you can see in the photo below, the criminally scientific organization A.I.M. (Advance Idea Mechanics) has been spotted on set. What's more, the presence of a holiday decorations in the background should please Shane Black fans as it confirms that, like all of his movies, Iron Man 3 (http://www.comingsoon.net/films.php?id=70865) will feature, at least in part, a Christmas setting.

The site suggests that the presence of A.I.M. could point to an appearance of by the organization's creation and later leader, M.O.D.O.K. (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing). Though a fan-favorite, M.O.D.O.K. is one of Marvel's sillier villains and it's likely that A.I.M. will be utilized in a separate capacity (at least for the time being).

And I know there's some people here just clamoring to get MODOK into the MCU, but count me as one of the ones who hopes to hell they stay far away from the silliest elements in the comics, of which MODOK is the biggest.

The only movie I'd want to see MODOK in would be Deadpool.

I disagree with all you guys. MODOK is a delicious & vital part of the Marvel lore. Back in '07 people [appropriately] dismissed the notion that a giant planet-eating villain dressed in purple was too unrealistic for live action. That same sentiment is one I apply to MODOK. He's an awesome character that handled the right way could be as effective as Galactus would be, if he were accurately represented in a motion picture. I've been championing a giant floating Val Kilmer head for some time now & I would **** my pants if I found out Shane Black grants me that wish. Something tells me Pearce's character will end up becoming MODOK though, despite the comic book inaccuracy. One thing's for sure, if MODOK is indeed confirmed to be in this film, I will gain an interest in watching it.

I am all for AIM, they fit very well into the MCU, but MODOK is something I would really rather not see in movie form, as has been said, to cheesie, IMO.

well.... it's a little more than just the director... the script or the artist behind his overall appearance

MODOK would really have to look amazing, and creepy, yet believable and not cheesey. MODOK is pretty damn hard to do in general.. because he'd have to differ pretty far from how he's normally portrayed. I imagine the Movie verse would probably make him more like Arnim Zola's robo suit, the Kree supreme intelligence... or hell. just use the abbreviation to be used for something else... like a microbe organism engineered by AIM

They should use modok similar to how that alien looks in Prometheus and the original Alien movie....like hooked up to all kinds of hardware; controlling lots of things and only breaks away at the end to cause destruction....he should be the brains behind the brawn, not floating around the whole movie saying how brilliant he is.

Make him stationary; a brilliant hybrid mind calculating and strategizing to take over the world behind the curtain, then surprise the audience at the end when (insert hero(s) here) gets inside A.I.M and finds his hiding place; hooked up to thousands of data streams like a gigantic human supercomputer, filthy and disgusting looking skin, lesions and bad skin from all the time spent stationary around 20ft tall and almost as wide, oh and then he speaks and breaks away from the machinery. I can see it, and if done right would be very very cool. If done like an animated show, very very cheesy.

So if Pearce really does end up becoming MODOK, its the same formula. He looks human up until the third act of the film. Hopefully Killian isn't MODOK though, I just have that gut feeling they'll end up doing that.

There were definitely ways to do it, they just didn't try. MODOK can be done faithfully.

I'm interested in the idea of MODOK in the MCU, but I think he fits the tone of Captain America better. I'm just not sure he'd make a great Iron Man villain (in the MCU). Plus the writers of Cap have expressed an interest in using the character. Though I would hope that while redesigned to look more imposing and less silly, he would still be reminiscent of his comic counterpart. Though I also hope that we see Zola in his robot form in a Cap sequel too.

What I'm not interested in though is seeing him completely rewritten and reduced to an in-joke like some form of virus that's nicknamed MODOK or anything like that.

Nor do I want to see him merged with Killian of all people. I feel like that would completely wreck the Extremis storyline. If Killian takes Extremis and that's what it does to him then it feels silly and would likely ruin the possibility of Stark taking Extremis and evolving due to it both in terms of power set and as a character.

If he shows up and we've got the Mandarin as well, it could turn into that 90s Iron Man cartoon where he was Mandarin's lackey. And if Modok features in a Hulk film with Abomination, then it will become Super Hero Squad.

I just wish that when that new IM suit is revealed, 1) there's no silver/grey pieces in it just red and gold and 2) its a bulkier armor ala mark III. Maybe not as bulky, but not as slim as the last two suits. I loved the thicker wider frame also the wider jaw/face and neck, made him look more intimidating.

Coincide. One word that, in this case, explains my skepticism for an IM3 tie-in game. It has to be out the door by the time the movie comes out.

It's a shame we don't see many Marvel character games (where art thou Nolan North voiced Deadpool game? :oldrazz:), except when it's a movie tie-in and we all know how that usually goes. Iron Man has great videogame potential, but we only really see them try something for a movie tie-in product.

Also I think it's funny they're using Epic Games as AIM's HQ, but aren't using them for the potential game.

I wonder if it's truly gone, though, since the Iron-Patriot armor is not as bulky and the original really is iconic. If it is a new armor, does that mean the Mark II in Tony's house is a replica, or is the orginal but stripped of Hammer-tech (Tony would never allow that stuff to remain on one of his suits anyway)?.

And what does this mean for the story?
Is Rhody going to be what the government wanted in IM2, a state-sanctioned Iron Man? Or a replacement after Tony goes off the radar? I don't see him agreeing with this.

Why the patriotic look? Tanks don't get painted in the colours of the flags of their country, so is this a propaganda-stunt like in Captain America? a reaction to an Armored suit painted in the colour's of the Chinese(?) flag?

I hope that's not real cause it sucks. An IM armor thats mostly gold just sucks aesthetically wise. To me what makes the gold so cool is that its in the face arms and legs only( with red taking most of the torso) specially the face it has a nice contrast. And whats with the indented lines on the sides of the faceplate? that's just overdoing it for the sake of it. Don't fix what doesn't need fixing.

This could have easily been a side-effect of Sterns research or something. I do wish Abomb had possessed a more classic look.

Although it would seem rather perplexing seeing how in IM1 Stark had JARVIS add some red to the suit to tone down the garishness of it. It kind of boggles the mind that Stark would want to add even more gold to the suit inverting the primary color scheme a bit when the red over gold looks just fine.

An actual Silver Centurion version would be sweet. It's that brushed gunmetal look that is very distracting with the Mk. VI and VII. Hopefully this increase in gold is to compensate for the grey (which makes me wonder why it was ever introduced in the first place).

Honestly, the gold does not bother me at all, thats the beauty of Iron Man, his armors change and evolve, i mean a friend of mine just seen it and was like thats pretty cool, so, it can not be the same all the time, and fits Tony's style, remember it was Jarvis who rendered the mk 3 with all gold, and when Tony said lets throw some hot rod red on there, Jarvis came up with that version, to me, this looks like a reverse look, Gold with Hot rod red accent, looks good to me.

As for the IM3 armour, I can't really say at this stage, but thanks for the pic RIM. Though I'm going to reserve judgement for when we see it in full since neither pic of it really gives the full look. My only worries though at this stage is that the amount of gold on the chest may be too overpowering and I'm unsure if this armour is more form fitting or not.

Though I have to admit I was truly hoping to see the bleeding edge armour or something similar to it in the film.

The whole idea behind Extremis is how Stark evolves beyond that perception and how he can really thrust himself into the superhero crowd he lives in. Extremis restructures his body so that it runs 100% better than it's supposed to. It heals faster (not necessarily on the Wolverine level) and his armor is literally wired into his body. My favorite part about it is how he can automatically wire himself into any satellite or wireless technology from virtually everywhere in the world.

I think with the direction this movie is taking, Stark is really going to have to make these changes so he can face the threat he's up against. He can't just keep going on as the guy in a suit of armor. He needs to BE the armor.

What I like about it is that it sets it apart from the Marks III, IV, VI and VII. Sure VI and VII have some gray bits and VI has the triangle reactor, but with the colour-design remaining the same, the visual advancement on each suit is so minor, that they might all as well be the same suit. Let's get some variety into that Hall of Armor. Not even just paint-jobs, I want Stark to get experimental and outlandish with the designs.

True, I get that. We were all hoping for more than a teaser, I think, but I'm just happy we're getting anything at all. I kind of love the teasing and the rumors instead of them just throwing new armors and a high-resolution pictures of the main villian at us. I'll see those when the movie comes out.
We are all spoiled in the sense that we think we need new details/pictures every week, because at some point you'll just go "oh, another picture of Tony Stark? Sjeesh, give it a rest", instead of being happy we got a blurred picture of the Mark X's crotch-region. Maybe that's just me though, I remember sitting in the theater having no clue what's coming next, instead of having puzzled the movie together from over a year's worth of pictures, trailers, rumors and reports. But I just can't help myself, so I'm happy they're keeping it vague for now.

MarvelFreshman posted some interesting but potentially spoilerific set reports that give some more hints towards new locations and plot twists:



One tipster says that the production crew of Iron Man 3 have built- recreated the famous Grauman's Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard over at the National Gypsum in Wilmington, North Carolina, where the bulk of filming takes place. The tispster goes on to say the scenes will involve combat of some sorts, with the extras in the scene being tourists; some costumed as "injured tourists". This night shoot will undergo Thursday & Friday.

A permit for this very shoot was issued to Wilmington (http://www.**************.com/fansites/MarvelFreshman/news/?a=61102) last week, where it states that three actors will be present, along with 91 extras. Adding legitimacy to the tipster's claim, the permit also vaguely declared that the shoot will include "exterior building scenes involving special effects and stunts."

In regards to the potential 'love triangle,' or rectangle even, another tipster offers that Pepper Potts actress Gwyneth Paltrow recently shot a rather romantic scene with villain Aldrich Killian actor Guy Pearce. As showcased in The Avengers (http://www.powerlinks.com/api/powerlink-click-custom?id=63&keyword=The%20Avengers&campaign_id=1111), Tony Stark and Pepper are in a "committed" relationship. So, will things getting rocky between them be considered a subplot to the anticipated threequel? Let's not forgot that The Town (http://www.powerlinks.com/api/powerlink-click-custom?id=63&keyword=The%20Town&campaign_id=1111) actress Rebecca Hall is playing a "sexy scientist," likely Maya Hansen in the film. A love rectangle perhaps?

The Japanese poster makes Iron Man look like some bad guy: there's a destruction all around the city and he's just flying high and firing his repulsor rays, lol)

Funny you should say that. My first thought was to post something along the lines of "Arrgh! It's Robert Downey Jnr attacking the city... RUN" alluding to a Godzilla like gag since it's a Japanese poster and that it looks like he attacked the city. But I chose not to thinking people wouldn't have made the same connection. lol

While it would have been better if they actually SHOT at Grauman's Chinese in Hollywood. But if you've been there, it's SUPER CROWDED so closing down Hollywood BLVD. would be a nightmare to do.

I dunno. I like Smulders as Hill, but I'd prefer they go with an actual Captain America love interest than her. Plus, she's the one Cap hit when Civil War started. It would feel really weird.

I wouldn't mind Hill as the love interest for Cap, though I don't have much knowledge of SHIELD in the comics so I don't know how awkward that would be for comic fans.

I seriously doubt they will actually have Civil War storyline for the TA sequel, so I don't think you have to worry about Cap hitting Maria Hill. Personally, I think Hill could be a great love interest for Rogers, instead of introducing a new character like Sharon Carter. It would develop Hill to be more than just the lieutenant for Nick Fury.

As for IM3, I hope we'll be getting some info about its story and plot, because I think it could either be really good or it could fail like Spider-Man 3 did. Its huge cast of characters has definitely make me a bit concerned, though, and I hope RDJ and Black will do their darnest to make up for IM2.

..... im not talking about that. I'm talking about the fact that it's cheesy to even have a scene their when half the film is already going to have a Chinese influence since they're shooting in china.

That's not what I'm saying. I don't think Civil War will be in Avengers 2 or that Cap will hit Hill in the MCU. He hit her in the comics and she's never been associated with Cap as a love interest (as far as I know). For some it was a memorable moment and it may jar with seeing a love interest plot forced on her character. If you want her developed as a character you should call for her to be better developed than trying to anchor her to Cap in the hope of it.

Plus I'm sure Cap fans would have a fit if that happened instead Sharon Carter or anyone else known to have romantic interests in Cap.
