I don't really like recasting, but I like Levi and I think this could work out. Besides, I heard he has the first choice for Fandral but he backed out because of Chuck, which finished its 5-year run recently.

He's finally confirmed it on The Tonight Show that he's playing Fandral. As soon as I saw his new goatee that looked very similar to Dallas' in Thor, I knew he'd be announcing it.

I think Zachary Levi should've been saved for a bigger role in a Marvel movie instead of just a replacement for a supporting cast. He seems more like he could be the protagonist in a movie who goes through some kind of journey himself. I'm not sure who he would've been, but Fandrall seems a bit too low profile for his talents.

Well he was originally cast in the role for Thor, maybe it's something he wanted to follow through. And well, Ray Steveson has been Punisher and plays Volstagg so it doesn't necessarily stop him playing someone else in the future.

I was watching that show (and I loved it). I didn't notice he was on Thor. I only found out he was on the movie when I looked at Wikipedia. And I was looking forward to see him in Thor 2, then the news came. Oh Well. :woot:

Josh Dallas wasn't able to return due to his commitment/obligation to the tv show "Once Upon A Time" - so they had to recast and managed to get Levi (which I personally find nice since he was originally approached for the role for the first Thor film, but had to turn it down due to his commitment to Chuck)

I am glad to see him get this role. I was majorly bummed when "Chuck" came to an end, because he is such an enjoyable actor to watch, and a true to heart nerd as well. :)

Yeah, I'm bummed that he shaved the goatee since it looked so good on him. I mentioned this in the news thread, I'm wondering if during makeup tests and what not the goatee simply didn't dye well/looked odd with it dyed and so they opted to have him shave it and go with a fake beard/goatee instead.

Levi looks a lot better with the dye job and goatee. It's clear they aren't going for a Josh Dallas look-a-like, but hopefully for the best actor for the role.

But with Disney owning Marvel now, you'd figure they'd give Dallas leeway to do both Once Upon a Time (they own ABC and ABC Studios, the company behind OUaT) and Thor 2. I mean, Kat Dennings is able to squeeze in a sitcom and this film...

But that's how it appears ? Cause of this, I really am not liking him as Fandral too much, I guess we will see soon.

Personally, I just think we're seeng the guys affable personality shining through in the behind-the-scenes stuff and that the guys just super-exited at getting the role and being part of such a massive Hollywood movie. I know you obviously cant get over Dallas not returning but really, it was his choice not to return and someones gotta step in. Levi may just surprise you.

That makes two of us. Dallas was perfect as Fandral, and the little we saw of him in Thor made me eager to see what he would do with an expanded roll. It was disappointing when he had to bow out and Levi took his place.

I know it was for one movie. And I am sure Levi will be fine. But Dallas looked the part so well. Dissappoiinted that he is gone. There is something norse about Dallas' features that Levi just doesn't have

This pic is the most Fandral-looking of them all, I thought Dallas looked perfect as Fandral but I believe Zac will be a worthy successor.

You know, I just hope the one thing Zachary borrows from Josh Dallas' interpretation is the Errol Flynn swashbuckling quality he infused in the character. That's my main worry because I liked how dandified Josh portrayed the character like you could see him saying "Tally ho!" with absolute conviction and authenticity.

After how campy and over the top the character was in the first you're worried that the new guy isn't taking it seriously?

The campiness off Fandral & Volstagg was one of my biggest criticisms of THOR. They're performances/portrayal came across as tacky to me.
Maybe they're exactly like that in the comics (I don't know) but I hope that's something that's dropped or really downplayed in TDW. That's not to say I want super-serious, but you can be funny and humorous without being campy.

Yes Zac is currently in LA but pictures of him still show the Fandral Blond and beard and Jaimie Alexander tweeted she was visiting NY for a bit. They are probably just not on the call sheet for the scenes currently being filmed. I believe they will both be back to finish filming. Filming continues until almost the end of December according to Tom Hiddleston.

Day 5: (http://www.piptastic.com/a-week-on-a-movie-set/) Beam me up scotty! Wrong film I know but I’m tired, knackered, filthy dirty (not in a way I’d prefer!) & my eyes are really sore. Bearing in mind I’m a trader, I’m actually concerned about my eyes as they are the tools of my trade really. That said, it was a fairly easy going day today with Ray Stevenson & Zachary Levi appearing on set with me, or is that vice versa?… So cut to the afternoon & I’m being held prisoner by Ray Stevenson ready to be transported back to Asgard. (Spolier:It’s not real). Next to me Zachary is on his horse which on this particular day is deciding to play up. Not good when my head is in direct path of its hoof. I’m officially scared. To be honest, I think he’s a bit worried too but still manages to pull off a perfect English accent whilst laughing at my predicament. I’m thinking if that horse hoofs me in the head then I’ll be going to my own version of Asgard & not coming back! Fortunately he managed to control his horse & quite admirably as well it must be said. As I’m being held hostage by Ray, it turns out he has nothing to eat & his character is always seen as eating… big problem as catering as gone home! Damon to the rescue as I produce my apple I had hidden in my ammo pouches & voila, if it makes the final cut I have my mark on a major film! fingers crossed. So if you see Ray chomping an apple whilst waiting to transport us intergalactic warriors to asgard then you know where it came from! PS I’m the one in the helmet that looks like a pigs face! – Very distinctive.
Had a great catchup with Zachary afterwards -top bloke!
