Disk defects? That sucks.
Yeah, the two copies I've had so far look like someone at the factory smeared grease all over them. Obvious factory defects. I'm not alone.... 8 People at my local EB have had this issue including two that work there.

The one i had that looked like that picture was cool as hell. He'd hop right on your lap and just chill. This new one, though, he's a different story(by new i mean like 4 years old?). He'll act all sweet and start rolling over and as soon as you go to pet him, his claws extend and then he'll latch on to your arm right before his teeth sink as deep into your flesh as he can possibly muster. Hurts like i dont know what. Then after he's torn a bit of flesh from whatever part of your body he was able to grab, he'll start rubbing up against ur leg as if to say, 'haha, just kidding'. Its fascinating. Iv never met a cat with as much personality as he has, granted its a sadistic, psychopathic personality but still, he's got one. I dont live at the house he does any more(its my parents) and they tell me that in the morning he'll come into their room to wake them up, at first he'll just hop on the bed and start poking at my dad to get up, if that doesnt work, then he'll hop on to their night stand and start knocking s**t off until they do get up. He runs that house, my parents are basically his staff.

Sounds like my best friend's cat, that bastard will sit on the counter and watch you as you're making something to eat, calm and collective, walk by him once you're done and he'll claw the **** out of you, for no reason. Play a video game and he'll sit in your lap, adjust yourself to accommodate his hefty ass, claws you for it, it's like the moment he sits in your lap, you are considered comfortable, you have no right to move until he leaves your lap. That cat has some problems, my friend had a party one night and I passed out on one of his guest rooms, i closed the door and you could hear that ****in cat scratching the door like "I know you're in there" *shudders*

Haha, yea when i go home to visit ill be hanging out in my old room and ill just see his arm reach under the door feeling for anything he can get a hold of. I mean he can be nice sometimes tho. My mom claims that when he bites you its just a "love bite". Sometimes ill let him bite me just to see if he'll let go but he always tries to bite harder. Its like he's daring me to take my hand out of his mouth.

Cats are some indecisive creatures, unlike dogs, dogs show their aggression through barking. Cats can claw you with a calm face and look at you like you were the one who ****ed up so you got what you got.

Not all in game costumes will be available from launch.
According to the official strategy guide they are going to add hidden spider-logos each week starting after launch which will unlock the costumes in game. The first week is Scarlet Spider.
The exceptions are the suits that are unlocked naturally in game not through logos which are no belt default suit, Black suit (100% game), and I believe the cross species suit which I believe is for beating the game.

Does that mean that the dozen or so suits we were told were in the game aren't available from the start or are the suits we get by finding these spidey symbols on the disk, just not available yet?
If it's the former, I'm pissed. Real pissed.

I USED to really want the 616 costume but honestly, now I'm so used to the ASM costume it wouldn't really make a difference to me, i just don't like the belt, so I'm sorted.
To be honest, I'd rather the Spider-Man 3 red and blue suit. Then I can play the Danny elfman soundtrack and relive my Spider-Man 2 the game days

From what I understand the suits are unlocked by finding the spider logos. The spider logos will be added to the game 1 a week after release. The suits are likely on the disk you just have to wait for the logo to be added.
It isn't a huge issue to me as it will likely just be like getting free updates but I don't see much point in it.

I am, as much as I love the Raimi suit, I wanted the black suit to be different, can't really get any better than the comic version. All the extra cosmetic stuff they added to it only worked for the red and blue Raimi suit IMO

Oh wait, so it sounds like they're gonna release that stuff like they did with Prototype 2. I don't mind that, it's a cool way to get longevity out of a free roam game that might be otherwise quite easy to beat.

The point is to entice a lot of people to hold onto their copy of the game for longer and not trade it in, thus keeping more copies out of the used market. It's actually pretty smart, but as a consumer I hate it. It's not like getting free updates, it's like them stripping out content that they gave us as part of the past 2 games and then making us wait to get it.

It is somewhat odd that it's the Soiderman 3 movie/game suit and not, say, a redesign of what the black suit would look like in the ASM-verse.

They probably weren't allowed to do that. The movies may intend to go with that route at some point in which case they will want to design the costume themselves.

It'd hardly be impossible. The costumes would most likely be on the disc content and it's not like locked content hasn't been uncovered before.
More worrisome news.
People I have been talking to who have the game have been reporting issues such as being able to beat the game in around 15 hours doing all sidequests and that the random crimes are finite.
This is really starting to worry me about the game. :csad:

15 hours for a movie tie in is pretty damn good, I'd say...
Yes but that is with all the sidequests. This after Beenox said 30 hours. I understand companies usually overstate the play time but doubling it seems a bit much.
On top of that the lack of infinite random crimes is annoying. That is one of the things I like doing in these kind of games. Just swing around fighting crime. To be told that you can't do that after you have done all the pre-designed crimes is really upsetting.
Mister Sinister
06-23-2012, 07:58 PM
15 hours is bad now? I aced Arkham City in a little longer than that.
Mario_Galaxy
06-23-2012, 08:01 PM
Like you said, companies always overstate it. I remember hearing about Arkham City's storyline being like 20 hours (dunno if it was Rocksteady or an "inside tip") but I definitely beat it in 8 or 9.
Didn't know that about the crimes, that is kind of lame. The random crimes on top of the free roam swinging is pretty much the blueprint for a Spider-Man game. But I remember in Spider-Man 2 that the random crimes actually went in some weird order, and then there was the balloon shenanigans...still, something is better than nothing.
Alchemyst
06-23-2012, 08:07 PM
I'm assuming 15 hours after completing the game along with every variation of sidequest that the game offers. I'm almost positive alot of sidequest would still be available after beating the initial story mode. Random crimes would still occur and what not, and for a movie tie-in, 15 hours is not bad at all. Captain America, The Hulk, Thor and Iron Man can be completed in less than that.

Except the issue here is that from what I am hearing from multiple sources there are no continuous random crimes. There are set amounts and once you hit that amount there are no more.

Also, how many of those infinite crimes or whatever would be the same? How many car thefts would we have to stop? Getting balloons for little kids in SM2 every couple of minutes got annoying. Quick.
I don't know about anyone else but I honestly grow tired of "never ending" games. Unless they're games like Fallout or Skyrim...Or pretty much any RPG done by Bethesda.. And a Spidey movie tie in game will never be that open/creative.

As far as balloon missions go in SM2

Much as it hurts me to say it, no previous game should be the blueprint for how Spider-Man games should be like, SM2 has the blueprint for swinging, and I still look forward to another game with wallbouncing attacks USM style, mixed with BAA/BAC combat style, or how should I say it? Also a funny thread that I found to be a fail on gamespot I believe it was, said that a flaw in the ASM game was the single button for attacking other than dodging. It's funny bc Batman AC was the same way X attacked B stunned which in this case shoots webs (prior to a combo being built up then it's an insta take-down), and Y dodged/countered. The guy was an idiot in my opinion.

Going by the 3DS demo, the combat is very similar and imo, just as fun. I think AA's and AC's combat is a little deeper but then again Bats has years more experience compared to Spidey and probably should be. Also the 3DS demo starts you off at the bottom and we all know we will be able to upgrade Spideys fighting moves over the course of the game. I think the combat will be one of this games strong points. Id be surprised if reviewers knock it.

I'm hoping to see more and more insane acrobatic combat the more he levels up, personally the thing i didn't like about AC was I never used anything I bought for level ups which is why I'm glad this game looks a little bit more RPGish in that manner. Meaning more strength more combos ect.

Actually...that would be pretty sweet. I would definitely buy it if they released all classic/vintage costumes or the normal version of the ones that we've already seen. (Normal Scarlet Spider as opposed to Kaine suit, Normal Future Foundation as opposed to the reverse one above, etc.)
I'm still hoping that they release a large costume pack with EVERY costume that was seen in SD and EoT, including the default suits found in those games. If they did release one for like 5 bucks, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Maybe even for 10...

MK? Well, it's still a fighting game, but with cutscenes and a little harder, since sometimes you have to battle two foes in one fight using only one fighter, one that you might not be very good with. Yeah, it's fun if you like the gameplay, like I do.
But once you finish its good story mode, there's not much flavor to it. That's when you go to Versus Mode and the Challenge Tower.

So far the game is pretty fantastic. The story so far is pretty good and I'm liking where its heading. The visuals for the most part are great, the details on Spider-Man's suit is great. Spidey's animations are fantastic, very fluid, acrobatic and you can see the mexican wrestler inspiration. I love Sam Reigel as Spider-Man, he reminds me of Josh Keaton but there are a few parts here where he gets pretty emotional and he pulls it off brilliantly. Now onto the gamplay, I love it. Just about every Spider-Man game, I never really liked the combat but here it is very fun. It's kind of like Batman's but not as polished and refined but its more polished than Captain America. It finds this middle ground where I wish it was a tiny bit better but at the same time I love it especially once you're able to do the signature moves because they always look cool. The swinging reminded me alot of Ultimate Spider-Man's swinging mechanics and its very fun to swing around New York. Web Rush, well web rush is amazing. You'll never want another Spider-Man game without it. Swinging is very fun but there is something about web rushing through New York Street level that is just awesome. It's so fast, and fluid. I'm not really sure what else to say but I can answer questions.

any technical issues? Screen tearing, lag, texture pop in, etc?
Also how challenging is it? Is it super easy, super hard, nice balance?
How is the overall voice acting?
Are side quests varied or do they seem to repeat a lot?
Thats all I can think of right now :yay:
jacobed
06-25-2012, 01:48 AM
I had a finnicky camera once but it snapped out of it right away. Screen tearing hasn't been noticable but I never really notice that. No lag and texture pop in is no more or less than any other free roaming game. It's been pretty easy so far I'd compare it to Arkham City. However you found that game difficulty wise I think you'd think the same for this one. I find the voice acting to be pretty damn good for the most part espeically Reigel as I mentioned before, it is a little weird not having the movie actors as the voices but its not that big of a deal. There doesn't seem to be a huge variety of side missions but there is a lot of them. I do love being able to web strike straight to comic books and I forgot to mention that the game is very spoilerific for the movie. So if you don't want to find out what happens to the characters from the movie, wait a week before you play the game.

There's absolutely no proof that IGN is COMMANDED by Murdoch to give Activision games high scores. Game reviewiers are OBJECTIVE. You know why CoD scores high every year? Because it's good! That doesn't mean YOU have to like it. And does it mean the reviewer was bought? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Also a bad story is a subjective thing bc IGN said that Dragon's Dogma had a bad story and my thoughts were well she didn't understand it.
The reviewer said it had a bad story and because you disagree with her, you assume she's stupid? Keep this douchebag act up, it's working wonders...:woot:

Well then they needed to be more clear or something, a bad story isn't exactly what the story is trying to tell, but how the story is told. If someone has an awesome story for a game, but does a poor job of explaining it or getting that player engaged then its a bad story. I played and beat Dragons Dogma, the story wasn't its strong suit and it could have been if it was told in a better way.

You clearly never played the game bc the ending of the game was mind blowing and completely impossible to predict and there are debates over the ending so yeah I'd say so. Also you never actually answered the fact that a bad story is an opinion. So clearly that should be left out in some cases, some such as Quantum Theory that really had no story or back story then yes I could agree. If the reviewer had've said a boring (at first) or slow main campaign then yes I may have agreed, but she said bad, which is completely different.

Can you both just simmer? Some sites/magazines typically lean one way vs another. reviews are just that... Reviews. One persons opinion and everyone has different tastes. the reason they even exist in large quantity is so you have options. Find a writer that typically shares your taste and stick with them

I'm hoping it's multiple would be lame if it were only 1 per week. Also I hope the tokens are randomly placed in one of X amount of places instead of it being in the same place on everyone's game, so players would have to look around for it.

I see nothing wrong with putting them in a set place. That way those that want to just look it up can do that while those who want to hunt it down can do that by just not looking it up.

Usually I keep the cutscenes in first gameplay, there are times they get too long and dragging I don't bother, especially if flashbacks to things from movie or played earlier

My Gamestops are not promoting TASM at all. No posters, no preorder display boxes, no sign of it coming out. Spiderman 2 was another story.

good means it does what it is trying to do well. It does not require innovation.
And just to point out I am no Call of Duty fanboy. I don't like FPS's in general CoD or otherwise. I just happen to be able to realize that just because I don't care for a game or because the game doesn't do anything new does not make the game bad.

Not to me. Actual gameplay content keeps me coming back. Getting the chance to replay the game with a new look adds little replay value. I hate when Capcom does that as well. I think if they are already done, just make them all available from start, whether its free or paid. Too many games to play and too little time. I dont have tmie to go back just for a costume and the developers lose out on my potential money that way

Its possible to make an open world game that doesnt feel lifeless and its been done before. GTA IV for example is the closest thing to what one would expect that for a NYC based game.

Technically all of them. They aren't adding the costumes just the logos to unlock them
But by terms of naturally unlockable without logos we have 4 total. Default, default without belt, cross species, and SM3 black suit.

It's easier to make that experience happen with GTA. Because that entire game with maybe one exception, takes place on the ground. You are either running around town or doing maybe 100 mph at the most in tight areas...it's very feasible to render lots of detail and more people/cars/etc. without losing framerates and causing glitches/screen tearing. Spidey on the other hand, one of the fastest and most agile characters, spends most of his time above the streets, swinging up to speeds of 160 mph and web rushing at speeds of 600 mph. I'd rather have smoother frame rates during those activities than more peds walking around. I guess we'll have to wait until the next gen of consoles before we start getting more environmental filler when it comes to a Spidey game.

Graphics are pretty damn good, didn't notice tearing or framerate problems yet, the indoor environment that I was in looked great and Spideys character model is amazing.
Combat although not as fluid as Batmans is fun and the animations and finishers he pulls off are awesome. Looks like there are many upgrades that can make the system even better, with the ability to web strike and bounce from enemies ala Web of Shadows.

I repeat, where are the good costumes? So far we have a toggle belt option, a hybrid Spider-Man that should have been the six armed Man-Spider instead, 4 black costumes and the new Scarlet Spider.
Classic Spider-Man should have been like one of the very announced. But seeing as we have Big Time and Future Foundation Spidey, I'm confident that we'll see all the previous costumes from Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time as well. No reason not to put them into the game. It's just disappointing when they announce the lamest costumes of the bunch first.

i think for the most part, all the costumes have been "movie-a-rized" versions of comic suits... I don't really expect any 110% accurate comic costumes... like his classic red/blue or symbiote

No, but we can also say that the whole look of the Arkham game goes for a less comic booky, more serious and "movie-a-rized" design. Just look at Harley Quinn and Robin.
I simply think not having classic costumes in the game, because it's a Movie-based game, is a silly reason. But if you want a more appropriate comparison, here's classic Wolverine from the Wolverine Origin tie-in game.

Watch the movie first, and spare yourself the torture of spoiling a movie before watching it, or be forced to not fully enjoy a game for the purpose of not spoiling the film

What Spider-Aziz said, this game pretty much spoils a bunch of stuff, some of it is minor. It just depends on what you don't mind getting spoiled. The beginning doesn't give too many heavy spoilers and I would suggest if you do decide to play it before the movie that once you get to the city you play no more story missions. Problem is the collectables don't start until you get to some pretty big spoilers. So basically I suggest to watch the movie first then the game.

Hell, the trailers for the movie are doing just fine at spoiling the film. Today I saw three different commercials showcasing different scenes, some with some rather pivotal plot points.
Also these costumes are painfully boring, other than Kaine and the FF and Big Time suits. The alien suit is really the only case where black as the dominant color works for Spidey. I want color, dammit.
