View Full Version : X-Men: Days of Future Past Countdown Thread
If what was anounced is right and the First Class is going to be released in 18th July of 2014 then it's officially
728
more days until the film is released.
Since X-Men didn't reach 728 yet let's start with the first appearance of the characters and other notorious stories.
Day 1
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_BeGEAD8oSwg/SsF93LGXtWI/AAAAAAAABrs/9Mv2-mGgB7I/s1600/xmen-number-1.png
Yes, let's start with the classic first one. The First appearance of Magneto, Charles Xavier and Beast (This is just for the characters that appear in the First Class movies).

Cool idea!
I started the 60's comics one month ago, because i want to know the whole history of the xmen since day one
Its great to see how all started and to see the original five working and living together on the school, all that stuff makes me more interested in the future sequels yet, to watch the evolution of the team and their relationships
i hope matthew pay more attention to this in the sequel
Yeah, i read some of their early adventures, while i didn't like those stories as much as Jack Kirby and Stan Lee's work on Fantastic Four (which made them some of my favourite heroes) they had some charm, and i think that the X-Men facing Magneto in a government facility or something like that would be a nice reminder of their first encounter with him in X-Men #1. But i guess something similar was made with the last battle against Shaw in that island.
Always love cover countdowns.

At this point....just wake me when Fox loses the right to make any Marvel comicbook films ever.
You'd think that at this point, most X-men fans would want better from Hollywood....
I really wish that Marvel Studios had X-men, Dare Devil and F4 back.
Keep in mind that The Hulk was much better once Marvel got the rights back for him. So just imagine how great X-men would be in the hands of a studio who cared about the actual characters, continuity, script and plot...
That's just my opinion but if you're happy just seeing anything then so be it...
As for me, Fox comicbook films get nothing more than a Red box rental moving forward...

Sincerelly, the best X-Men stories don't involve the rest of the marvel universe, the x-men universe is big enough to stand on its oun. And Fox is now giving more freedom to their directors, not to mention that Bryan Singer is controling this franchise, and he's the right man to that job.
Daredevil's rights should be wherever spider-man's are, Daredevil being ouned by SONY would fit much more than him being ouned by Marvel Studios, unless Spider-man goes to Marvel Studios too.

You're obviously missing the bigger picture here. Because of Fox we'll never see the Shiar, Annihilus or Silver Surfer in a Gaurdian's based "Annihilation movie" which on that scale could rival anything George Lucas has done in the last 10 years. Plus you and I both know that Fox doesn't know what to do with any of those characters. And because of Sony, we'll never see Norman Osborn lead a "Dark Avengers team" on the big screen. Or how about Iron man taking on a team of Doom bots in a short cameo??? The possibilities would be endless if Marvel had all of it's rights back. Sadly Dare Devil is going to end up like The Ghost Rider and The Punisher as long as he's in Fox's back pocket.
And despite your blind faith in Singer. I feel that we've seen the limit of what that Studio can or will do with this franchise... Sure you can't go wrong with characters like Magneto but what about the rest? Their backwards continuity has ruined the entrance for other X-men characters. But I'm sure that wont stop them from shoehorning them all in there at some point but that just doesn't sit well with me as an X-men fan. I think they deserve better.
Maybe it's just me who can see a more potential if these lost Marvel characters where with Disney. But I know for Galactus's sake it couldn't possibly be any worse....

oh yes another of the marvel studios Is great and everyone else Is terrable.
I don't want X-Men or FF characters to prop up Avengers related films.
Marvel studios doesn't seem to realize that more are aware of 616 universe than Ultimate
universe.People were reading marvel comics before ultimate Spider-man and ultimate
X-men In 2000.
X2 and X-Men first Class have better ratings on RT than most marvel studios films besides The Avengers and Iron Man.I will take X-Men,X2,and First Class over most
marvel studios films Including Iron Man.
Marvel has proven they can ride roughshot over directors like Fox.Iron Man 3,Thor:The Dark world, and Captain America:The Winter soldier all being done by new directors. And
both Thor and Cap directors are being done with people who don't have exceperence or vision of Bryan Singer or Matthew Vaughn.
If Marvel cares so much about characters why have we had 3 banners In 3 different
films. And why instead of hulk sequel they are doing a TV show where we will probally see
Hulk on screen for 5 minutes an episode. And why do they Ignore the comic book version
of Bruce Banner In favor of a film version of TV David Banner(That was the Banner we
saw In The Avengers)
Marvel studios only cares about Avengers related films.GOTG Is being made to further lead Into The Avengers 2 with Thanos.Where Is Dr Strange?Where Is Sub-Mariner?
Where Is Punisher? Where Is Blade? Where Is Black Panther? How many years have
they talked up ant-Man?a Test doesn't mean anything.A test was done for deadpool.
I don't want to wait 10 years for another X-Men film. That's exactly what would happen
If marvel got rights to it.Considering how tired I am of reboots I certinly don't want them
to get hold of X-men.And we certinly don't need another Spider-Man reboot after the
Amazing Spider-Man.

I never said anything about the Fantastic Four, in fact i allways believed that franchise and it's characters belonged to Marvel Studios. But above all what i'm looking more for is a good movie, Fox does seem to know what they want with the X-Men franchise and i don't have a blind faith in Bryan Singer, that assumption is just silly
I didn't read Anihilation yet so i can't say anything about that but in the last 20 years there have been a lot of movies in the scale of Star Wars, even 2001: A Space Odyssey which preceded it was bigger in scale, it's just it's popularity that was one of a kind when it first appeared, now there are so many big franchise that it's probably impossible to have such an impact as Star Wars has back then.
X-Men films continuity is right now very strange but i considered First Class a kind of new begining for the franchise, the sequel even seems to be being based on Days of Future Past and to redeem the timelines but we'll see.
And with team-ups i meant that i like the X-Men universe more as it's oun universe without references to the rest of the Marvel Universe, the comics have sometimes done this in the past years, some times it seems like it's oun universe with its oun problems.
And a shared universe can be a drag, directors will have to follow Marvel's plan and will have some restrictions to what they can do in terms of scale, why do you think that Nolan wanted The Dark Knight Rises to be his last Batman film and his universe to not include Superman or any other superhero for that mather?
Not saying it doesn't have its advanteges, but you can't deny that there are also many disadvantages and things that may turn some good directors off the project, one example is Edgar Wright's Ant-Man which has potencial of being great but because it's supposed to be set in the MCU, his original ideas to make his oun thing is in danger.
I don't have a blind faith in Bryan Singer, he didn't develop all the characters as he could have, but you seem to have a blind faith Marvel Studios

Wow, that's fascinating - when did the Scarlet Witch become, you know, not green? Oh, and nice to see Marvel Girl being proactive and useful as usual :o !
It's strange but in the covers she was green, however in the story itself she used her usual scarlet color. It's funny to see that Marvel Girl and Sue Storm ended up with the stronguest powers of their respective teams but during Stan Lee/ Jack Kirby's years they didn't do too much.

Either Way now that the characters are gone of the way lets go to the comics that inspired the movies.
715
Day 12
The first film wasn't actually based on any single comic book, it's kind of a mesh of ideas to start the franchise with but it certainly had some inspiration from the 90s X-Men cartoon:
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-75Bnm-PysKE/ThYkupR9cNI/AAAAAAAAAOc/VP3BDMv9DjE/s1600/x-men%2Banimated%2Bseries%2Bicon.jpg

Well The Wolverine will be released next year, so its not really a long wait unlike before that we had to wait 3 years for another X-Men movie. The gap between the X-Men movies are getting smaller and smaller.:woot:
Between The Wolverine and Days of Future Past, we should have a steady stream of X-Men related news for the next two years.

What I figured. I like how the films haven't tried to be literal adaptations. It's angered some people but the comics should be the comics and the movies should be the movies.
X-Men 2 was actually as close to a literal adaptation as you can get, and it worked very well, the same seems to be what will happen with X-Men: Days of Future Past

Cyclops spent a lot of story being a prisoner of Stryker. In comic he,Storm, and Xavier were captured by Stryker. It wasn't a shock In God Loves Man Kills adaptian to see Cyclops spend a lot of time as Prisoner of Stryker.
Well, Cyclops was aparently going to do more in the adaptation of Dark Phoenix, until Bryan Singer left and they gave the role to Wolverine, they also cut the Hellfire Club from the film too.

Jeez. People bash Singer for Superman Returns and such but what he did with the X-Men movies compared to Brett Ratner's work on 3, and the guy who did Origins...is really under appreciated. At least by me I guess. I'm starting to realize how great and instrumental Singer really was for the world of comic book movies. If only he had directed 3...oh well.
Also, The Usual Suspects is a great movie. Guy's a damn solid director. Haven't seen the newer stuff he's done though....:/

well he has only directed Valykre since Superman Returns.Jack the Giant killer will be out next year after some reshoots but all Indiction Is that film Is basiclly done.
As I keep saying the present state of comic book movies Is In long part thanks to him.Plus his style of being somewhat relatistic has been copyed by Nolan and Favraru.
I laugh when some say he ruined the X-Men.He Is reason the X-Men become Film franchise. And If people online think filmmaker will retire just because they didn't like one film they are crazy.

well he never really mentions he was gay. It's an open secret but he doesn't talk about It.It's a reason why he gets X-Men.
Someties directors are good for one comic property but not another. He was best for X-Men and not Superman.Just like Tim Burton was good for Batman but never should have attempted Superman.
Some make cracks about Superman In Superman returns being gay because Singer Is gay.

Superman Returns has Singer's sense of style and craft, but it's a rather odd Superman film and not the Superman film that needed to be made. Valkyrie didn't quite hit the mark either.
He has a good sense for the X-Men, for sure. Not perfect (some characters fell by the wayside) but he managed to make most stuff believable and grounded in a very Nolan-eseque fashion. The story he came up with for First Class was incredibly smart. Hopefully we will get something equally smart for Days of Future Past.

Bryan Singer's Intentions was to revive Richard Donnor's Superman. It got decent reviews. He came Into It with good Intentions and Is Is better than Joel Schumacher with Batman or Brett ratner on X-men.
Valkyrie was a decent thriller. He wanted to take brief break from Big budget films.and he proved a film with Tom Cruise after his 2005 meltdown could do decent at box office.
His work payed the way for nolan on batman and Farvrau On Iron Man.Both their styles on those franchises were Infuenced by Singer's work on X-Men.
Singer has admitted he made a mistake on Superman. That he should have retold the origin with someone like Nicholas Holt as Superman and Instead of tying the contunity to The Donner Superman he should have payed homage to It In some ways.He also said he regretted not doing the third X-Men before he saw It,during watching It,and after seeing It.The closest he has come to outright critizing the Last Stand publicly.
He totally got first Class off In exciting directions.focusing On Xavier and Magneto.placing It In early 1960's,and using cuban missile crisis all came from him.
The funny thing is that Bryan Singer wasn't interested in making any movie based on a comic book before and found Comics as unintelligent literature (ironic for somebody that later adapted 2 of the most popular comic book franchise to the cinema :D), and he turned down the oportunity to direct X-Men three times, until he actually saw the 90s cartoon and read the comics, then the themes of prejudice resonated with him and he finally accepted. (His opinions of comic books probably changed too)
His ideas for X-Men 3 were actually very cool and respected more the original comics, Cracked even made an article about that, fortunatelly now we have Bryan Singer and Matthew Vaughn working on future X-Men films, and The Wolverine doesn't seem bad either, anyway

We definetly havent had a really BIG action battle in the x-movies yet, an epic battle in the middle of the city with everyone running, destruction and the heroes fighting around the streets.

The fight at Alcatraz in X3 is close but it was just too quick, I think it only lasted for 20 minutes.
Absolutely, it was starting to get there, but it was a bit unpolished and flawed (the mutants leapt on the island too slowly, like obvious wirework; Phoenix stood around doing nothing; Juggernaut and Colossus never clashed). It needed to be mapped out and thought-out a bit more, as with any clash of superpowered beings.
The original pre-Ratner script with the Washington battle and the bridge scene in the middle of the movie would probably, overall, worked better. I'm sure Ratner made the changes so he could get the movie done in time and on budget though, so not entirely his fault.
But I did like some parts of that final battle a lot, such as when Phoenix raises water round the island.
A shame, too, that Storm's tidal wave scene was cut, though the special effect didn't feel 100% right (the column of water that fell seemed too narrow somehow).

Those were only single mutants, though. It's gruesome when it's an entire army of Mutants. It's also different because she made sure to drown them all before electrocuting them, which would have made the pain worse and was overkill.

I see your point. It could have been adapted a little, maybe summoning down a wider rainburst (rather than the narrow column) and just creating a huge wave to sweep the mutants away, without the electrocution being added.

No, I agree with you. I think the 'epic' feel of The Avengers comes from the build up that went into it - it's essentially the fifth in the MCU series of films. I think X3 could have had an epic feel if Singer hadn't went to make (the frankly awful, in my opinion) Superman Returns and stuck with X-Men. There had been talk of Singer wanting to do a double shoot for X3/X4, which suggests to me it would have had a 'main event' feel to it. The fact that the Phoenix Saga would have been given more attention would have helped a lot.

there you have her, Kitty as as a pivotal character on the cover and arc.
I like how Marvel take advantage of all the characters on the comics storylines and comics.
Thats how it should be done, to let everyone know the xmen universe and all the xmen of the team, not just Wolverine.
This is why comic fans love ensemble movies and comics, because of the diversity of characters and powers.

I kinda miss the original numbering of Uncanny X-Men. I don't get why Marvel had to go back to issue #1 with X-Men Legacy, Uncanny X-Men and their other comics. I hate that they had to do that.
We're getting way too many number 1s latelly

dont worry, next month shooting starts, so we'll get some pics here and there during next months and on July more than likely the first footage, so it will be a long but exciting year! :woot:

Starting next month, I feel like its gonna be a busier month for the X-Men movie fans. The teaser trailer for The Wolverine will come out at the end of the month and we will probably get new stills for the movie next month. Then the production for DOFP will begin and we would probably get spoilers, set photos with the cast and more confirmation on who's in or out.
