I'm hyped! GR could be a cool film if done right. Wonder what kind of cameo Stan will have in that one?

Yeah I can't wait for the movie to come out. As far as a villian in the movie I think Blackout could be cool.

Ahhh yes..GR....the movie ive been waiting to see since 1983. man i hope this time it happens....
anyway the main villain will HAVE to be Satan...which i think will be played by Voight.
now i bet there will be other villains too for gR to pummel.....voight will probably be the dude sending blaze on these little "errands". because if i remember correctly the main idea behind the script was that blaze agrees to become ghost rider in order to save the woman he loves (roxanne )
i bet they will take ideas from both the 70s and 90s books for the story. blackheart is a another possibility ..which may be a cool idea. satan wants his son dead and gets blaze (GR) to hunt him down . maybe even blackheart took blaze's wife or even kills her. have blaze start out at the carnival as a stunt cyclist and have blackheart ride in w/ some cronies. they proceed to destroy everything in sight...maybe even kill blaze's adopted father crash simpson and take roxanne w/ them. the authorities cant help..so blaze gets desperate and makes a deal w/ voight.
supporting characters could be the few remaining survivors of the carnival.
this is stretching the mythos a bit..but marvel has been doing that w/ alot of thier movies

I'm familiar with Ghost Rider but not with his Rogues Gallery anyone know who the likely villians would be? Also is this going to be Jonny Blaze GR or Dan Ketch GR. Maybe with the film coming 2004 (i believe) Marvel will release an ongoing comic! Regardless what people think of MSJ directing DD i think he will do the character justice.
i prefer nic cage !
BIGGUN, i love your ideas !
and..does anybody know some good ghost rider fanpages ?

Unfortunetly, there aren't really any good Ghost Rider fansites online....however, if you want a review of Goyer's script, check it out at: http://www.tnmc.org/dp/0415021.shtml

Tanks Poki :)
the style will have to be treated like a action movie w/ lots of horror thrown in. it would be cool to have a scene w/ blaze and voight talking in some little bar in the middle of nowhere....use lots of shadows and very little light on voight. and behind him have a few shadows move on their own (w/ some whispering...like they were alive) .....this would give both blaze and the audience that voight is not quite "right". maybe this could be the scene where blaze realizes he just screwed up BIG time by making a deal w/ this guy.
GR doesnt really have a really strong list of villains like say spider man but some will make some good movie villains. lesse..theres centurious, steel wind, scarecrow, the orb, blackout, blackheart, zodiak, nightmare, deathwatch, snowblind, maybe even vengeance.
one thing im waiting impatiently to see is the merchandising and hype!! movie posters, theater standups (which im goin to get one way or another if they make em!!!!), drink cups...heh. im also curious if they are going to try and have a figure line...like x2 or hulk. or would they go the one figure route like daredevil....which would suck imo. GR i think has better potential as a entire line.
i do hope they make a 12" marvel studio figure....that would be sweet.
:ghost:
hey BIGGUN, keep on writing, i love your ideas !
thanks, rasputin386 for the link, i'm reading it now...(well, not now exactly but...ya know ! ;) )
i hope they really do an entire line of gr figures, because i missed at least an elektra figure...
but anyway i'm happy when they put at least one ghost rider figure !
i really hope they use mephisto as a major villain and handle blackheart as some kind of henchmen (but not one who dies after some minutes screentime, but a real challenge !)
dammit seems like the script review doesn't include any blackheart or any real villain...

Yeah i read that script review too...that last line from the reviewer tells all about it...."What really worries me is that many comic book movies are aimed at that annoying PG-13 rating. Bringing this script in under that rating would absolutely gut it of everything I liked. If that happens, it might not even be worth watching."
if violence is the only thing that makes a script good then there is something terribly wrong...there has to be more than just violence. the entire "American Indian" thing is not needed imo.
why they felt they need to make blaze a man who has a criminal past is beyond me....in the books he was a good and honest man. now i dont like this script but they had some really cool ideas on how GR would look like and some of the things he would do...i hope they keep them in this new script that MSJ is working on now. these were mentioned by goyer and norrington ....they dont appear in that script review.
here is some of the stuff im talking about:
1. one scene has blaze walk into a room which is lit by hundreds of candles....when he walks in all of the flames bend toward him!
2. GR doesnt have a "set" outfit. whatever blaze is wearing it would be exaggerated when he transforms...collar becomes wider/longer, spikes appear, ect. there was one incredibly cool concept drawing by Bernie Wrightson that had GR in a trenchcoat, holding his chain in one hand, exposed skeletal hands and ribcage billowing all of this fire and smoke. (if someone still has it post away!)
3. if ghost rider touches ANY bike it will become his "hellcycle".
4. one scene has GR turn over a large truck/car w/ one hand.
5. GR revs up his bike and takes off while melting the asphalt street and blowing out all the widows in the area due to the sonic boom.
6. i remember hearing about this a while back but im not sure if they might use it....Blaze uses a shotgun (like in the 90's book)..when he becomes GR he touches the gun .....it changes ...and GR can fire hellfire out of it.

this is a listing at countingdown.com .....has all of those ultra cool Bernie Wrightson drawings, they even have the quote that goyer mentioned about GRs outfit as well as a scene from the movie. keep in mind this is for the R script which wont be used...but some elements may find thier way into the new draft.

Heres something you guys might find interesting...Rasputin thought i should post it so here goes!
its not a big deal but its a sign that we may have a fellow fan in charge of the marvel movies. this happened sometime in 93...like many peeps i was waiting for Toy Biz to finally do a Ghost Rider figure......at the time TB kept pushing their xmen stuff and the regular marvel assortment was stuck w/ repaints. no GR! i got fed up and decided to write the head of Marvel Toys himself...Avi Arad. i pretty much felt there would be little chance of getting a response...the letter would have been trashed. i just did it to let off some steam. in a nutshell i just said in the letter i was a huge fan of GR....going all the way back to 77 and was GREATLY disapointed that marvel decided to concentrate on their other characters. well a few weeks went by and i recieved a letter from Avi Arad ...asking me to call him! stunned i did and we talked for about 5-10 minutes. really nice guy too. Recognized me as "oh yeah that ghost rider guy in texas"....heh.
he said he was a huge GR fan as well and had some big plans. he told me GR was being worked on as a movie ( keep in mind this was in 1993) ...already had a poster made up as well. it would be about blaze but the outfit would look more like the ketch version. he said that this was his pet project and that the movie would be made eventually no matter what! also told me other things that came true...a GR figure line, and the blade movie that it was going to be a R rated film. we also talked about how he was interested in making a cartoon of GR as well...
Just shows that Arad can be a really cool dude :) makes me feel a little easier knowing we have a "insider" at marvel..heh
if they ever succeed in making GR i may just send him another letter just to thank him for the hard work of keeping the idea alive...only this time make sure my handwriting doesnt look like chickenscratch...lol

I am looking forward to this film and hope that it is as dark as possible.I am not thrilled with the choice of nicolas cage but think its a million times better than Ben Affleck as Daredevil.I would have loved Johnny Depp as Blaze but it seems thats out of the question now....
One thing I want to see:
GR's bike as a Harley-type chopper, not some modern street bike. Keep the flaming wheels from the Dan Ketch-era GR, though - that's a cool visual. Trails of fire left behind on the street as he passes - that sort of thing.
There should be some kind of chase sequence, where cops or the villains or somebody try to catch GR as he's screeching along at 125 MPH. Just when they think they've got him cornered, GR runs the bike up the side of a building or a wall, laughing the whole way.
That would be a vehicle chase sequence we haven't seen before.

Tanks Poki..glad someone enjoyed that story...
i think Cage will do a fine job....in fact he may even add some interesting aspects to blaze. the character isnt iconic like bruce wayne or even peter parker so there can be some things added to the character to make it a little more interesting.
However...i feel they need to have some basics:
Blaze should be a nomad...no home. should have a tough life...going place to place w/ barely enough money to eat. maybe just sleeping where he can. his backstory can be told in brief flashbacks and the reason why he is on the road (maybe hunting down the peeps who did him wrong). If they are true to the comics he should have a carnie background and be able to take care of himself (ie..kick butt!)
he should be a good person thrown into bad situations..he has a moral code and sticks to it. yeah he could be a baddass shooting anyone who looks at him funny but it makes for a great conflict between him and ghost rider...a demon who loves to destroy people. Blaze should be the one keeping him in check...but barely. Blaze despises GR...GR despises Blaze..but they realize they need each other to get the job done.
i also think they should definately mention that Blaze has a brother named Dan who lives in New York. just make it a very brief scene where dan asks to help and of course johnny tell him to keep out of it. i didnt mind the idea that both were brothers in the books but it was very contrived how they suddenly "shocked" readers by suddenly announcing it. this way its known from the start and that there is a possible story line for the movie series to continue (if successful enough of course).
you should be directing the movie or something like that BIGGUN ;)
i really want a scene like someone described in another thread as a teaser trailer...
just a cold, dark alley, with some thugs beating somebody up. and then the camera scrolls to the beginning of the alley, you see some newspapers flying, and then you hear a little noise and it's getting bigger and you realize it's that of a big motorcycle. then the noise stops at the beginning of the alley, a big light goes on and suddenly the sound starts again with the light coming closer...you start to see flames and all and chains on the ground and then you here some laughing insane...and then you see the motorcycle stop behind the thugs and you see a shoe on the ground and the thugs saying something like "oh my god !" and then he smashes them ! that'd be cool !
BIGGUN

Heh..me write or direct? hmmmm.....tell you what if anyone is willing to konk MSJ on da head....and if someone gets me a MSJ disguise and we are set to go! heh...and if the movie blows then ill just say "uh..it was him!!" (points to a semi conscious MSJ and i then run off w/ the theme of the benny hill show playing in the background..lol)
but seriously, if that quote from Avi Arad is true about them actually taking hints from forum posters at this site..its quite possible that we may actually see a few of these suggestions on the screen. so keep those ideas coming folks!
i certainly agree w/ both Poki and DK about GR laughing...that i feel is a important part of the character. GR should be a character...not just a dude w/ a cgi skull. However, i dont think he should be a "chatterbox" either....just speak a few lines. IMO it will give more meaning and importance to whatever GR says.
also i think it would be cool when he does speak have his voice come out of ALL the speakers in the theater..a complete surround sound effect. has anyone here seen George Romero's "Creepshow" from the early 80's? it was a horror anthology flick and in it was a story called "Fathers Day". in that one the decaying corpse of a man came out of his grave to exact revenge on his kids. his voice was very rough and raspy. GR could sound something like that only he would sound constantly PO'd.

Well, BATMAN FOREVER had something sort of like it...:)
The latest news about Mark Steven Johnson and GHOST RIDER doesn't thrill me. It talks about a love story being a central part of the movie. I'm not an expert on Ghost Rider, is there some kind of continuing love story, a la Clark and Lois in his mythos?

Actually yes there is...
go back to the 70s comic..there is most definately a love story between Blaze and his girlfriend Roxanne. she was one of the main characters in the book for awhile until Blaze had to leave (because of GR).
but i really doubt its going to be "Love in Hades" for 2 hrs. I remember hearing sometime ago that the main idea is that Blaze becomes GR to save the woman he loves. I would suspect she is kidnapped by someone (more than likely a very powerfull supernatural villain) and Blaze as GR must track her down and rescue her. Expect alot of violence along the way :)
And wasnt The Crow basically a love story too? a fairly violent one at that....

Spawn is a Ghost Rider wanna-be ;)
but here is how it went down in the original 70's book...Blaze's real parents died at a early age...he was taken care of by a motorcycle stuntman by the name of Crash Simpson..who has a daughter named Roxanne.
years later Crash is diagnosed w/ cancer....and that he will die soon. Desperate Blaze finds some old books of black magic and summons the Devil. He makes a deal that if Satan doesnt let Crash die from the cancer Blaze will sell his soul. Crash is cured.. sortve.. later when he preforms a dangerous motorcycle stunt for a large crowd his bike explodes and dies instantly. Satan comes for Blaze's soul and is about to claim him when Roxanne comes into the room and spouts out some old incantation and protects Johnny B from harm. although Blaze's soul wasnt claimed he was bonded w/ a demon called Zarathos. At night he would change into a fiery skeleton and all kinds of "misadventures" would happen. Initially Blaze's personality/mind was in control while he was Ghost Rider ..but slowly Zarathos started to exert control and was able to take over completely as the Ghost Rider persona. Soon both were fighting against each other for control of the same body. Ghost Rider was EVIL...but did some good because Blaze had some control over his actions (ie...mission where only the guilty were punished). Did this by burning thier souls/mind w/ Hellfire...left his victims mentally ruined.
Had a good number of interesting villains.....centurious is one...that is another story though:p
WHEW! and yes POKI i am indeed a HUGE GR fan... if you couldnt tell..heh. old school from 1976.....read a issue of "Marvel Team Up" w/ him and Spider Man vs The Trapster. GR cornered Trapster and burned him w/ Hellfire. Trappy dropped to his knees and screamed something like "God help me!!! Im in HELLL!!!!" from that point on i was hooked and the rest is history.

The 90s version gets all convulted...due to changes in editors, writers, ect. IMO it killed the book because of it. characters/storylines were introduced and later abandoned w/ no reason. it was actually pretty good at the beginning.
Dan Ketch and his sister Barbara come across a mob hit in a cemetary on Halloween night by a dude called Deathwatch and some ninjas (yes ninjas! ). they are found out..barbara gets mortally wounded by a arrow...they hide under some junk where there is this weird old bike. Dan touches it and he becomes the new GR. penance stares and pummelings commence soon after. Dan as it turns out is the brother to Blaze ..they also tried to explain that this GR is not zarathos but was once a man named Noble Kale from the time of the salem witch trials. Kale is a distant relative of both siblings. then it gets really lame-o near the end...GR somehow end up in hell....kills Blackheart (son of Mephisto...who he has just overthrown) and becomes the new king of Hell....no lie. dont know what happened to dan ..think hes brain dead or something....no idea about GR either..only they stuck him in Hell as its new lord.
just got wayyy too silly at the end

Yeah...not really that big of a fan ...may have read a issue here and there....lol.
Even though Blackheart is from the 90s GR he would still make a cool villain for Blaze to fight....could be the main heavy..one that Blaze has to fight and kill to get Roxanne back. Blackheart can add an interesting part to the story (if they did it this way). Like in the books BH want his dad Satan/Mephisto dead so he can be the new ruler of Hell. He escapes Hades and starts forming a army on Earth to help him in his plan. He gathers the absolute WORST type of people ....murderers, serial killers, thieves, rapists, ect. some will just be regular thugs armed w/ heavy weapons and such. BUT others who show some skill could have been given "special abilities" in exchange for their souls. This could give GR more monsters and freaks to fight...also a good way to introduce some other GR villains too like scarecrow, hag and troll, snowblind, ect. This army too could be nomadic ...traveling all across the country destroying and taking new recruits where they can.
BTW..just remembered another villain that would be cool to use...Meatmarket. Basically a rotting demon composed of used body parts from his victims! he is constantly in search of new victims to replace his old rotting flesh. nasty!
But anyway, there could be a twist at the end that Mephisto could really care less if his son wants to kill him...he used his own son as bait (and "guided" him to kidnapp Roxanne) so he would be able to trick Blaze into making a deal w/ him. Why he wanted Blaze so much could be explained in the sequel...heh :) BH would be like a pawn in the whole thing not realizing that his father was using him.

Why he wanted Blaze so much could be explained in the sequel...heh :) BH would be like a pawn in the whole thing not realizing that his father was using him. superb idea

Actually i believe they will be combining the best elements from both series (70's and 90's).
I know its pretty much 98.98% that they will use the penance stare. even heard from avi arad himself (back in 1993/94) that he wanted to use the penance stare, with the 90's GR look, but w/ the Blaze character and story.
From what i gathered he really digs that penance stare schtick..:)

Marvel Movies...
you may try and get some of the issues that reprinted some the old 70's comics. the best were "The Original Ghost Rider Rides Again" . These had 2 reprinted issues that covered the last issues in the series. "The Original Ghost Rider" came later and just reprinted the very 1st GR appearances in Marvel Spotlight and some of the regular series starting w/ issues 1. IMO the best stories were from the last issues of the 70s comic....in all honesty the issues from marvel spotlight and some of the early GR series weren't very good either artwise or storywise (except the very first few issues drawn by Mike Ploog of course). The 1st early issues were extremely hokey. the book really didnt start hitting its stride until sometime around issue 30 and up. this is where Blaze was starting to loose control of GR and was becoming a completely different entity...stories were getting better too....some were actually rather creepy and quite sad at times.
one of my faves was "Highway to Hell" where GR hunts down a mobster for killing a young kids parents in a circus act. quite kool too as GR stops the kid from shooting the mobster (by wacking him upside the head!) and saying "Vengeance is the Devil's Work!!" and pretty much warned that he could be next if he didnt watch himself...great story

Yeah i would suggest that if anyone wants to get any GR back issues now is the time to do it. IMO once pics hit the net of the actuall movie shoot and when the teaser trailer hits the theater prices will more than likely go up on both 70's and 90's books. I dont think the prices will go up too much but im sure you can save a few $$ if you get them now.

Yes, yes he is :)
I hope they keep that idea about GR having different outfits depending on what Blaze is wearing at the time.....that one w/ GR in a trenchcoat was simply just too cool!
Here is a question for you dudes:
Does it matter if the movie is a literal translation of the GR origin (from the Marvel Spotlight issues) or can it take liberties w/ the storyto make it more entertaining
For example: Spider Man was extremely close to the original books while movies like X-Men, Hulk and Blade changed a lot stuff.
Personally i hope they just keep the basics :Blaze sells his soul to save someone he loves and that he is a motorcycle stuntman.
I never liked the original story....it was pretty bad and wouldnt translate well to the big screen..imo. It could probably work as a TV series though.
In the original stories Blaze is still "Blaze" when he becomes GR....same mind only his skin is transparent and appears to be on fire. The "smack talking" demon Zarathos doesnt really show up in the series until much later.
Also the stories brought back his dead surrogate father Crash Simpson as a re-incarnated motorcycle gang member. he makes a deal w/ Satan that if he sacrifices both his own daughter and Blaze he would live again. Also there is alot of satanic "mumbo-jumbo" that would just seem silly by today's audiences.
Ive seen alot of talk about how some comic book fans are upset that many of their fave superheroes' origins are changed when made into a movie. GR (like Blade) is gonna be a special case I think....the story isnt set in stone since its been changed around so much and GR isnt really that well know by the general public (unlike Spider Man)
What do you guys think?
phlogiston

I think that Blaze should be kept as a pretty decent person, like in the books, and that he should have something to do wih motorcycles, not necessarily a stunt motorcyclist, he could be a mechanic. I say this because, I really don't see Nicolas Cage asan X-Games type person. I would believe his role more if he were a mechanic with a passion for motorcylces. Then again, his stunt motorcylcist history may help draw in the X-Games crowd.
Think about it:
Grungy Good Hearted Mechanic- gets tricked into selling his soul- turns into Ghost Rider
Trouble Maker Stuntman- gets tricked into selling his soul- turns into Ghost Rider
I don't know why but the former just clicks better with me.

True.....Cage is a bit old for a stunt man...but if his backstory was that he was a famous stuntman as a youngster who now as a adult co-owned the carnival w/ his surrogate dad Crash Simpson.
Blaze wont be making public stunts or anything..he will be too old of course. maybe he just recently stopped doing them so he can run the carnival w/ Crash. this way GR will still have the knowledge (from Blaze) of doing all kinds of funky bike tricks as in the comics.
Blaze did own the Quintin Carnival when he was re-introduced in the 90s book i believe....so actually it wont be a bit of a stretch....just merging different parts of the GR mythos together.
i have no problem with mixing basics from the book with new ideas, it could turn out veeeery good !
and MarvelMovies, i was doing the exact same thing..:)

yup...in the original 70's comic, Blaze sold his sold to save the life of his surrogate father Crash Simpson from cancer.
From what i heard (at least when Norrington was attached) that the reason why Blaze becomes GR in the movie was to save the life of someone he loves....this could either be Crash or his girlfriend/wife Roxanne. Right now this could all change as the director is still finishing the script...so anything is possible at this point.
I'd say make Roxanne his wife in the movie.

Ok..seems this thread needs some activity again...heh. gotta keep it goin kids!
but anyway......a few years ago when Marvel had a early draft of Ghost Rider (this is in the early to mid 90s i believe) there was an idea that instead of GR shooting Hellfire from his hands he would have to use a shotgun to channel it instead (like Blaze did in the 90s book). he would pick up a normal gun ...and it would change so he could fire it.
now my question is for the fans of both the 70s and 90s comic....
which would you prefer? The old fashioned Hellfire from the hands or would you prefer a demonic looking shotgun to fire it instead?

Well i never really knew much about ghost rider until me I started playing Marvel vs Capcom and blackheart became one of my favourite fighters. I did know OF ghost rider and but it wasnt til i did some web research on blackheart to find he was mephistos aka devils son and a villan for ghost rider.
Eversince then and reading lots into the ghost rider plot and so forth on the web have wanted a movie and would have loved a movie of it with blackheart as the main villan.
I would like to see cage as blaze over sutherland, as i think sutherland might be a bit busy with season three of 24 and the 4th season if the show still rakes in the ratings after that.
As for your question biggun, from what ive read off the web (i really should start reading comics some day....I get so wraped up in their universes/plots just by what i read off the web!) I find it rather hard to think what would workout better for the movie. Then again we are dealing with hell, mephisto, blackheart, ect here so I think the oldschool choice of hellfire from the hands would be better since its more homeage to the origional comic.
Eitherway I'll be more than happy if we get a scene, maybe a fight scene of blackheart vs ghostrider since it would be two hellish supernatural powers pitted against each other.
As for how blackheart could look, they could go for something like this....

Wow, Biggun and I thought I loved GR! That an interesting concept with hellfire shotgun. I never have really liked it when characters emit powers, energy through their hands. Don't know why, just seems a little corny. I think his primary weapon should be his chain, I liked how it could morph into different things in the 90's series.
How about this: in addition to his chain any weapon he picks up makes on some warped demonic appearance and produces hell-fire. If he picks up a shotgun it gets all twisted and evil looking and blast out hell-fire, or if he picks up a pieace of pipe it gets spikey and cover with hell-fire.
I really hope they do this film right, and I hope it has plenty of violence. I mean we are dealing with a demon here!

Heh....yeah old school from 76!
I was thinking the same thing SB....any item is a potential weapon in GR's hands. In the 90s book Blaze also had a bowie knife and he could channel Hellfire around the blade. Would be cool to see GR take a knife and it extends to the length of a machete only "demonically deformed" w/ Hellfire all over the blade. Another cool scene would be GR walking calmly into the villain's headquarters carrying 2 demonic shotguns blasting everything in sight w/ Hellfire.
I agree that the Chain would have to be his main weapon of choice....w/ cgi they could make it do all those funky tricks like in the book.
MarvelMov.....yeah that was a pretty bad cartoon.....the voice of GR was the worst thing about it imo. Very sissy soundin' for a Spirit of Vengeance! but at least we were treated to a animated GR.
Pyro...glad that someone else sees the logic of having Cage. we can at least depend on seeing a movie that is well done (at least production wise) and more than likely heavily advertised.

The 90's series finale was pretty bad..imo. basically what happened was that GR was part angel and part demon. i think his true purpose was to destroy mephisto but he didnt have any memory of this. anyway blackheart had killed his father mephisto in another book and took over hell. he then made it where GR had to come to hell for some reason and one thing leads to another..GR and blackheart fight...GR "suddenly discovers" these unknown powers and kills blackheart and becomes king of hell.
there was supposed to be a final issue they would have tied all the loose ends but sales were so bad they didnt even bother printing it!
it was a terrible way to end the series...but the book was getting so bad no one seemed to care anymore. lets just hope marvel learns it lesson next time (if there is one)

119.00 bucks is pretty good for a custom. lets hope that Marvel sees the demand and decides to make a nice 12" Marvel Studio figure for 50.00.
lots of people are saying that GR should be R.....but it really doesnt need to be. even the comic book was never more than a "pg-13". GR doesnt kill people ....he much rather give them the penance stare and let them go insane for the rest of their natural lives.....a fate much worse than death IMO. he does have a habit of savagely beating evil doers though....but again there are tons of pg-13 films that have pretty intense fight scenes. a film can be much more effective by implying gore than actually showing it. in daredevil you know the guy was cut in half by the subway train and it wasnt shown in gory detail. gore definately has its place believe me....some of my fave horror films are veryyy gory (dawn of the dead is one) but its not needed all the time.

Thats a pretty cool show. I also thought they should get a shot at making the bike for GR. They certainly have both the talent and imagination.
which leads me to ask you dudes another question.....for the R rated script the bike was said to look more "organic" and almost like something HR Giger would do (famous artist who designed the monster in 1979's Alien). I agree SB...the bike (whatever design they use) needs to have wheels of pure Hellfire. Although a bike made out of Hellfire might be interesting it would be overkill on the eyes after a while. I also agree w/ you on the combo style of bike.....maybe have a pure mechanical design for the outside chassis and inside have what looks like a organic/bio-mechanical engine and other parts. this would support the idea from the 90s book that the bike was a separate living entity

Ok guys...this may be bad news.
Hollywood Reporter stated that Cage would star in "The WeatherMan" starting in Feb. right after he is done w/ "National Treasure" which starts production this month.
Now this might not mean he wont be able to shoot GR late this year but it doesnt look good.
I can only see this working if they start shooting NT immediately this month and if it only takes 3 months to shoot. That would mean Cage will have Nov, Dec, and Jan free to shoot GR.....which to me doesnt sound possible. I cant see anyone being able to do a decent performance on 3 films that are shot back to back. NT...then GR....then WM. no time to study a script, physically prepare for the role or even take time off to relax.

Only the name, really.
Dick Ayers created the western Ghost Rider back in the 50's for Magazine Enterprises. The character had his own book back then, etc. In the late 60's, Ayers was working for Marvel. They revived the western Ghost Rider in a new comic - that's the 60's series you're referring to. It's a slightly different character, but he looks exactly the same as the 50's GR. The copyrights must have lapsed, or since Magazine Enterprises was out of business, Marvel figured they wouldn't sue over the issue.
The western book didn't succeed, but in the mid-70's, Marvel's claim to the name "Ghost Rider" prompted them to come up with the demon biker we all know today. Probably wouldn't have happened if Marvel hadn't decided to revive the western character in the first place.
So there's a historical connection, even though the characters themselves aren't connected.

Thanks. I was curious about the connection. As someone else pointed out, it appears that the 70s Ghost Rider met a character very similar to his western ancestor in a couple of issues. Wasn't sure if that was supposed to be Ayers' character or not.

I only hope Columbia doesnt get cold feet from waiting and drop GR like a hot potato like Dimension and Savoy pictures did.
The only good thing out of this mess is that MSJ will have time to polish the script and get all of that other pre-production stuff out of the way (choosing a supporting cast, costuming, props, location sites, stage set ups, ect). All that CGI will be done in post production but this delay will give them time to perfect the flame effects before its needed.

3 weeks? i could see that schedule working ....maybe just do basic stuff before Cage did the Weather Man like getting fitted for the costume. Even do some easy dialogue scenes before the WM shoot and then do all of the difficult stunt scenes when he gets back. Then again all they need is a stunt man to do the bike stunts...no one would know it wasnt Cage if he was wearing the same skull mask and outfit.
But we will see....i wont believe it until they officially start production. This movie has a nasty habit of "almost" getting made and then wiping out right before production gets started.

I agree about Cage wanting to do some of the stunts ...whats the point of doing GR if you cant do some of your own stunts?
but there will have to be a limit onto what Cage can do. For the more dangerous scenes it will have to be a stunt man.....i dont think Cage's insurance company will feel too happy if he decided to jump over 20 cars in a skull mask and black leather...heh

Here are some idears MarvelM...a few you have heard before only condensed:
1. Ghost Rider should not have eyes, just empty sockets. Maybe when he uses the penance stare you can see a 2 flashes of light but that should be it.
2. GR should be a completely different entity apart from Blaze. They should completely avoid the whole "Blaze personality controling GR" from the very first 30 issues of the 70's book.
3. Do not make GR into a typical "hero" like he was in the 90s book. At least not yet. This Ghost Rider should be seen as evil....but because of Blaze's strong will and good moral character he is able to control what the Ghost Rider does. He should be seen more as a frightening force of nature that just destroys anything that gets in its way.
4. GR should naturally try to avoid killing human targets.....not because of a moral code but rather he prefers his victims to suffer extreme pain for the rest of their days. Maybe have them so mentally wrecked after the penance stare they are deemed insane and have to spend the rest of their life in a mental ward. Non-human targets are a different story ...:)
5. GR should use a mystical chain as his main weapon. Would be kool to see the ability to change anything into a hellfire soaked weapon (like a shotgun) but im not holding my breath on that one.
6. GR should talk some in the movie but maybe just a few lines...and should most definitely laugh at least once in the picture.
Some of these are pretty obvious (like 1 and 2) buts its allways good to make your concerns known.....

go to this site:
http://wolfefam.homestead.com/files/all.htm
just click on the first letter of the character you are looking for...it should have a good deal of info.
but i can tell you scrarecrow was a vicious serial killer (i think from captain america) w/ some unusual powers. he could create intense fear in his victims making them unable to move which gave him time to "release their fear" w/ his trusty pitchfork. he was also able to contol crows to do his bidding.
his other power was being so flexible he was able to escape any restraining device. there was a cool story in a GR annual where scarecrow was killing all of these innocent people. finally near the end GR caught him. the problem is that scarecorw was immune to the penance stare and GR doesnt kill. so GR decides to break EVERY single bone in scarecrow's body and set each break so they wouldnt heal properly. this made scarecrow (for a time) crippled. brutal...heh
he isnt a villain that can go "toe to toe" w/ GR just more of a "annoyance". he would be good as a background or secondary villain though
BIGGUN

Yeah...unless they made him into a real scarecrow w/ uber supernatural powers.
also is the fact he is a serial killer....they would have to really be careful in order to get by w/ a pg-13.

Personally i would like to see just the chopper style only....w/ wheels of hellfire.
although the 90s bike looks cool in a modern sortve way ive always associated the classic GR w/ a chopper style harley. it just screams "im a bad ass demon and im gonna kick your butt"
the 90's bike gave me the message "im a bad ass demon...wanna race?" heh.
now if they decide to bring the Ketch Ghost Rider in the later sequels (if any) then they should use the 90s bike.

Well if they stick to the idea where it depends on what Blaze is wearing at the time there could be different variations of the costume during the movie. the trenchcoat is a must though...maybe when we first see GR
i think its pretty definate that we will see something like the 90s costume only updated. leather jacket, boots, ect.
i do hope we see some spikes though....but not so many like the 90s version. maybe just on the forearm and knuckles. but if GR does have spikes would they be metal or organic? organic as if made of bone but they look like thorns.
he should be of the same height as Cage....but maybe Cage can wear some lifts to make him more imposing in scenes w/ the villain/villains. Cage is something like 6' already isnt he?
i would pürefer a chopper with flaming wheels...and some custom desuign....this will look great !
i thought scarecrow was pretty cool and could be made spooky but blackheart would be cooler... !

I would like to see some scenes happening out in rural areas.....mostly like in small towns or long stretches of desert highways. but i would have some scenes happening in a major city...nighttime of course.

i think the movie should take place in the desserts out side of las vegas
BIGGUN
08-24-2003, 11:19 PM
Las Vegas is a good idea...it was used several times in the 70s series i think.
although i would love to see a church scene but i dont know if MSJ would want to use that kind of location again....he used a church in daredevil for the final battle between DD and bullseye. but again it could done differently if blaze was desperate looking for spiritual help and went to a old run down church that is run by only a few people. this could just be a short dialogue scene.
in addition to the flames of the candles bending towards blaze have a small fountain (forgot what the church calls it.) full of holy water and the water starts to boil and seathe when blaze walks by it
would like to see a cemetary scene though...would be neat. have GR walk into the cemetary and since the land is blessed every step that GR makes it creates steam or smoke on the grass.
BIGGUN
08-26-2003, 07:12 PM
Hmmm...
well if i was in charge of the script i would make GR into 3 movies all centering around the blaze/gr conflict. have GR slowly become more demonic looking until the final 3rd film. this would be the movie where GR realizes his true power and his name (Zarathos).
in the 3rd film i would have dan ketch become the
"true" ghost rider and both the ketch and blaze GRs would have to duke it out. during the course of the movies blaze would slowly loose control of GR until the final film where he would start threatening innocent people....this is where the ketch GR shows up and has to stop him. if the last film was successful enough i would do maybe a few more centering around the ketch GR while having a "non-possessed" blaze making an appearance or two.
im sticking w/ my idea of using Blackheart escaping hell seeking to create an army on earth so he can kill his father (Satan/Mephisto) to becomes Hell's new ruler. he gathers the worst type of people.....serial killers, thieves, rapists, ect and roams the highways in a caravan . most will just be heavily armed thugs...but others who show more intelligence/use will be given supernatural abilities in exchange for thier souls. this would also be a good chance to intoduce other GR villains like scarecrow, hag and troll, snowblind, meat market, ect. i would also introduce the "soul crystal" from the last few issues of the 70's GR. make it like a weapon that Blackheart has stolen from hell and wants to use to kill his father. the crystal would get its power from human souls....the more souls that it has the more powerfull it will be....and innocent souls are worth much more than corrupt ones.
Blackheart would be traveling all across the world raiding and destroying small towns or settlements. maybe his next target in the movie would be a major city like Las Vegas.
he comes across the Quinten Carnival and takes what he can.
Have Blaze and his surrogate father Crash Simpson as co-owners of the carnival. Blaze is about to marry or is already married to Crash's daughter Roxanne.
when Blackheart arrives his men kill Crash along with most of Blaze's friends and steals a good number of souls (including Roxannes') using the soul crystal.
later a desperate and furious Blaze meets a mysterious stranger (who the audience will guess its satan) and they make a deal.
Blaze as Ghost Rider hunts Blackheart and his men down to deal his own brand of vengeance.
the movie could be blazes struggle to prevent GR from going all out and destroying Blackheart since if BH is dead there is no way of saving Roxanne's soul from the crystal.
Roxanne (by the way) will be in a comatose like state in a hospital. the doctors tell blaze they dont know what happened to her only that its like her mind or her will to live is gone and that her body is slowly dying.
i have a few more ideas about the penance stare and its importance to the movie but im tired o' typin!.....lol
BIGGUN

Tanks MarvelM...
personally id just be happy w/ 1 movie! heh
but it never hurts to wish for the impossible....:)
i mentioned something about the penance stare in my last post and how it would affect the story line. ive always thought when i read the 90s series how both dan and GR would share memories of what the other did while in the mortal world. it occurred to me that when GR gave someone the penance stare he would be able to read or look into the mind of the person on the recieving end of the stare. GR would see all of the evil things that this person has done to innocent people. now wouldnt it make sense that dan would at least remember some of the things that GR saw?
now i was thinking....here we have Blaze a good person of strong character and morality. after a few years on the road changing into the Ghost Rider and dishing out the penance stare to hundreds of evil people, Blaze also remembers some of the things that GR saw while giving the penance stare.
he would remember seeing people being killed, tortured, beaten, raped on a day to day basis. think how this would affect you....and keep in mind this isnt just like watching a tv show. since GR looks into a person's mind everthing "seen" there will seem real. i would suspect that any normal person would start to get depressed and probably start making decisions that he/she wouldnt normally make.
this would be cool idea (imo) if Satan was already aware of Blaze's good moral character but knew that the longer he was bonded to the Ghost Rider the longer he would be exposed to elements that would weaken his resolve and morale.
this way Blaze's will is starting to weaken which will make it easier for GR to take complete control of his body.
BIGGUN
08-30-2003, 11:24 AM
Heres another idea that Goyer had planned in his R script that concerned the penance stare. he said that the plan was that if someone had too many "sins" the person would burn up as a result of the stare.
now for a pg 13 they couldnt do this often in the movie...but they could do it to the head baddie....especially if he was a demon.
I would also make it that the penance stare only works on beings that have a soul....since demons dont have one the stare would of course not work on them.
if i was in charge (heh) i would do it this way. im not sure about Blackheart's origins...we know he is the son of the Devil but who is his mother? for the movie i would infer that Satan wanted an heir and had deliberately impregnated a human female hundreds of years ago.... blackheart was a result. Satan took blackheart as a infant and brought him to Hell to teach him the proper ways of "demonship". he also took BH's human soul since it would just "get in the way of his training". years pass....BH proves to be a dissapointment to his father and they start trying to kill one another....or at least BH tries to kill his father. BH ecsapes hell w/ the soul crystal and creates havok like i mentioned before in a above post.
At the climax GR and BH fight it out ....but eventually BH starts to lose and tries to get away from GR to heal. as he escapes he runs into his father. Satan gloats over his son's current situation and eventually turns to leave but then says something like "I have something for you.....dont say I never gave you anything." Satan places his hand on BH's head ...a quick flash of light...and BH gets his human soul back. BH just realizing what happened screams at his father but doesnt see GR standing behind him. he turns gR grabs him and gives him the penance stare. BH screams in pain and starts to feel the agony that he has given to literally millions of people over the course of his life. he would slowly start to smoke and catch fire where he would finally at the end blow up "real good" into tiny demon bits.
now the whole backstory for Blackheart would be a bit long if explained in the movie. However, it could be shorted and used in Satan's gloating speech to his son at the end.

good idears there MarvelM...but ive been picturing Jon Voight as the human form of Satan....no make up...just looks like a normal human. but there will be hints that he "not right".
Satan's real form could be very quick shots...like everytime Voight walks under a shadow you see a outline of his true form....a large hulking mass.....something definately non-human in appearance. something so horrible a normal mortal would go insane or die from fright. something out of a H.P. Lovecraft book.....
the cigeratte idea is another good....but instead of blaze doing it i would have voight. say when they both meet (in a dimly lit small bar in the middle of nowhere) Voight takes out a cig and simply puts it in his mouth and starts smoking....doesnt light it. blaze notices this and then sees that the shadows behind Voight start to move slowly on their own and whisper to each other.....
this is blaze's first realization he may be dealing w/ the devil after all......
the 2 fights between GR and BH is also good....once in the middle of the film and of course at the end....
for BH i would make him partially insane....this is because of his half demon/human heritage. another reason why satan doesnt want his son in charge of Hell. like Satan BH will have a human persona as well (who would act this part i dunno...) but will change into his real form alot in the movie....unlike satan.
also about Roxanne.....as well as being in the hospital w/out a soul, and hooked up to respirators, life support machines, ect..what if she was also pregnant w/ Blaze's child right when her soul was stolen? this way there is more stress on blaze...he has limited time to get her soul back or both his wife and unborn child will die....

Ahhh..this is where it gets interesting....
i wouldnt use the cap on the bike...maybe for Ketch later on.
i would do it like this...in the beginning Blaze should be able to control his transformations. since his will is still strong he is able to decide when and where GR should show up. but in later films it should be difficult. as Blaze starts to get depressed his will starts to weaken. GR will then be able to take over. soon it will be like a tug of war between the 2.
but for the 1st film Blaze should be calling the shots. however i would keep with the idea that GR can only show up during night time. when the sun rises ghost rider has to go back and allow blaze back into his body.
the very end of the 1st film Roxanne is saved and has her soul back as well as some of the others who were also trapped in the crystal. blaze and roxanne hug and kiss in the hospital finally being re-united after several long months. but john cant stay....he fears that GR is too unpredictable and may even hurt roxanne, his friends, or even his child. he also has to hunt down the remaining members of BH's cult as per the agreement w/ Satan. he gets on his bike and rides off into the distance as the sun sets.....soon it shows Blaze turn into GR. riding towards the camera at fast speed GR is laughing as the grinning skull fills the screen until the camera focuses in on one of GR's empty eye sockets. the entire screen goes black....credits roll
god, where do you get such great ideas from...
really this is BRILLIANT !

That is badass, but he shouln't say pathetic. If he doesn't say anything besides his usual spirit of vengeance stuff that wouldbe badass. Of course if he said something like "I do not feel pain." that wouldbe cool as well. To cut down on special effects and bring up the more monster movie feel, they should film parts of him moving rather than all of him as a whole in the beginning. Like the blur of his bike moving by, and then it pans over the trail of fire. Or zoom in on his boots and cue heavy chain sound effects and random fire lighting. Make the big reveal of Ghost Rider toward the middle. Makes him tougher. :ghost:

GR should definitely have a moving jaw for talking..and imo should have a "frown" or scowl as in both 70s and 90s books. it just wouldnt be GR if he didnt look constantly PO'd all the time :)
i can see them using cgi to give life to the skull.....i just hope the cgi quality is good enough to keep it from looking cartoonish...
one other thing ....GR should not have eyes.
Personally im hoping for a more "maniacal" GR instead of the stoic version from the 90s book. The 70s GR had much more personality imo...the way he "smack talked" both enemies and victims. my feeling for the 1st battle w/ BH should cover several i think. maybe it starts on the road on a moving vehicle then it spills out to someplace that has a lot of people. but the fight ends in a cemetary with BH either beating GR or just gets away.
ill stick w/ the idea of the final battle taking place at blaze's old Quinten Carnival. it still stands but its pretty banged up after BH's men ran amok and trashed it months earlier.
i can imagine the scene for the final fight where GR hears BH taunting him . he is led to a huge tent (where they always had the large motorbike stunt shows and main attractions) and GR is demading that BH show himself. lots of shadows and a little moonlight shining through the many holes in the roof.
GR walks further...and you see a large shadow move on the wall behind him.....then you see red eyes appear in the darkness as BH slowly grows out of the shadow and takes solid form. BH comes up behind GR and gets a cheap shot in :)

I'd like for him to have emotion, and feel the ones he hurts and loves... but also in a ruthless way so that he kills and feel emotion if you know what I mean.. Kind of like the Terminator in the later films when he gets human emotion from John....
I didn't mean that he would be completely unaffected by what was happening around him, but he wouldn't be aughing uncontrollably, I think people will laugh at him laughing and that would sort of take away from him. I think the image of a flaming skull is striking enough, without violent laughter. In all of the comics I've read with him in it, I've never seen him laugh, he was always concerned with the deaths of innocents, and he was ruthless in his apprehension/execution of teh villains. I think I remember him yelling "NooOooO" a few times but by stoic, I meant that he was always not calm but calculatively pained and passionate about the deaths of innocents. That it was his duty to see that they were avenged. I respect your opinon about the maniacal thing, but I just don't see the character doing that.:)

BUT....my take is on the 70s GR (whose real name was Zarathos) who laughed quite a bit. if you can find them pick up some of the last 10 or so issues of the 70's GR. you will see what im talking about. however i would keep it toned down like you said....maybe do it at the end of the movie right before the credits come up and maybe at the beginning where he makes his 1st appearance. IMO....if the scene is shot correctly and the cgi looks realistic the laughing would work quite well.
That would make for a kool trailer MarvelM :)
everytime i come here this thread has about 2 pages full of great ideas...i really really hope msj comes here or some executives ! :) i wish i could come up with stuff like that !
that would really make a great trailer...
i have a little question...did gr jump in some issues and if he did, can he jump high ? i just want to know that...
they could make him part stoical when he's thinking and rescuing someone from criminals but i'd like to see him manically when fighting heart...
damn...i wanna see blackheart desperately !

Alright, this is cool that people are agreeing with each other on this board. This has to be one of the more mature boards on superherohype. Now that I know that Zarathos did laugh in the early years, I can see him doing that better. MarvelMovies, you stated it perfectly "an evil laugh, such as when you're happy that something is going your way and not somebody elses (the bad guy)..." that is precisely the kind of laugh I can see ghost rider doing. During the laugh it would be cool to see various effects in the flame when Gost Rider's mood changes. like, say he's really mad, his flame would become large and high, and when he laughed his flame would go down and shoot off sparks, or his skull would be black and have glowing embers in its cracks. Man, there's so many good ways to do this stuff in this movie.

Well us Ghost Rider fans have to stick together..heh.
GR has great potential as a movie....it covers sooo many issues. Faith, religion, family, love, hate, justice, and vengeance vengeance vengeance! :)
The 70s GR was fun...the way he enjoyed seeing people afraid of him and the way he was irritated by innocent bystanders. if he had to save someone his normal response was "Bah! Weakling mortal!" A true "Anti-Hero" in every sense of the word.
the great thing about the movie is that they can now take the best parts from both 70s and 90s books to make the best possible film. so more than likely fans of both books should be pleased....
I do hope either MSJ or someone at Marvel checks this forum out. would be too cool to see some of our suggestions up on the big screen. But even if that never happens hopefully MSJ will come up w/ stuff thats even better than our ideas.
BTW...you mentioned how GR's flame would get larger/change color if he was angry? they mentioned that idea a few years ago while putting together the R rated script. i think they were going to have GR's flame become more red to show how angry he was at the time....
the great thing about the movie is that they can now take the best parts from both 70s and 90s books to make the best possible film. so more than likely fans of both books should be pleased....
that's superb because they really can use the best of both worlds and add new stuff since it has not such a HUGE fanbase as spidey and other heroes...
i guess msj is the right man for the job, he's got great ideas !

Sadly no :(
But there was a GR guest spot on the Hulk 90's cartoon....there was also a very brief cameo in the 90s Fantastic 4 animated series. I think GR even gave Galactus the penance stare in that one.
There was also a brief cameo shot (only like 2 or secs) in the 90s X-Men series. he was part of Gambit's memories being shown on a monitor.
There was interest in making a series though.....i even talked to Avi Arad about it a long time ago. They considered doing it like the Spawn cartoon (extremely dark and violent) but apparently that didnt go through. Seems they decided to do just a guest spot on the Hulk instead
As far as doing another GR series i completely agree w/ you MarvelM.....it needs to be a Ultimates type of thing. The character has a lot of potential which i dont think will be achieved through a ordinary monthly comic book.

[I wonder how far MSJ is on the script... After Nic Cage finishes his next movie (which is a shorter shoot then usual)... then on to Ghost Rider!
I'm going to see his new movie, Matchstick Men tonight... [/B][/QUOTE]
I have a feeling that either the script was already turned in or its about to be. In that last interview posted 8/14 MSJ said he was just a few weeks away from turning it in. Now unless something came up (like a major re-write) then it may be a few more weeks.
Just saw Matchstick Men last night....I liked it but it was pretty predictable. Not even halfway into the film I already had a good guess what was going to happen. But then again I havent seen a truely "original" movie in a long long time. Film was well directed and Cage was great. He would make a very good late 30's, troubled and brooding John Blaze.

the only thing that was good it seems were Goyer's ideas on what GR would do in the movie.

I understand he's long been a fan, complete with a tatoo to prove it, but every time I try and imagine the guy dressed in his leathers and trying to express horror, the whole ensemble just looks wrong.
Martin Henderson would be my pick to portray Johnny Blaze. Someone, like the Lawrence Makoare's of this world, who can pull off the big physical side of the character would be an option for the demonic rider.

Need to keep this thread goin...
if you were given a choice, which type of movie would you prefer seeing? (only one or the other....no mixing of ideas )
A. The "R" script by Goyer. has LOTS of gore and extreme violence that nearly gets a NC-17. lots of foul language. however it has very little to do w/ the comic book. no supernatural powered villains.....just thugs w/ guns. story is very dark....little or no humor. very little character development
B. PG-13 script by MSJ. very little blood....most or all of the gore is implied and not shown on screen. very little or no foul language.
stays pretty close to the comic book although it would use some of the best ideas from both 70s and 90s series to create the story. at least one supernatural powered villain. story is dark but has some humor (made by supporting characters....not by GR).
has more character development (or at least a attempt at it)
WarBlade

Neither. :p
I would go for a script that was true to the comic in as many ways as possible. Neither option, as presented in the text above, strikes me as particularly satisfactory.

I wouldn't worry about Nicholas Cage not getting into the part. He was a big comic fan when he was growing up, especially of Luke Cage. In fact, Cage isn't Nick's real name...he got it from the comics. (I saw this all on TV, if I'm wrong, correct me)
Kind of reassuring to know that Nicholas Cage was a Marvel fan, isn't it?

Howdy,
My first time posting to these boards and I figure this is the best place to start. Being a HUGE Ghost Rider fan and all.
Like everyone else posting on this board, I'm super excited about the upcomming (not as soon as I hoped) movie release. I am a little weary of how it may come out. I am keeping all optomizim though. Besides, seeing that flaming skull on a huge screen is going to be amazing, no matter what.
As for Nic Cage. I like him. I think he's great in the movies he usually takes and since they're going with the original Ghost Rider, he seems to be perfect for Mr. Blaze. He even looks like him in a way. Oh, and yes, it's fantastic that he's a comic book nut like us all. He even has a flamin' tattoo on his shoulder, am I right?
I was kinda hoping that they'd go with the Dan Ketch storyline though. I'm a bigger fan of those than the originals. In wich case, it would have been fantastic to see Johnny Depp play that role. Man, he would certainly eat that role up. I guess I'll just have to wait and see if they make a sequel using the newer Riders.
Anyway... that's al I'm gonna write for now. I'm about to eat some subway.... not that you care.

if violence is the only thing that makes a script good then there is something terribly wrong...there has to be more than just violence. the entire "American Indian" thing is not needed imo.
why they felt they need to make blaze a man who has a criminal past is beyond me....in the books he was a good and honest man. now i dont like this script but they had some really cool ideas on how GR would look like and some of the things he would do...i hope they keep them in this new script that MSJ is working on now. these were mentioned by goyer and norrington ....they dont appear in that script review.
here is some of the stuff im talking about:
1. one scene has blaze walk into a room which is lit by hundreds of candles....when he walks in all of the flames bend toward him!
6. i remember hearing about this a while back but im not sure if they might use it....Blaze uses a shotgun (like in the 90's book)..when he becomes GR he touches the gun .....it changes ...and GR can fire hellfire out of it.
holy ****, that is awesome dude. too bad msj will screw this up. james cameron should direct this movie.

Believe it or not i actually believe MSJ can pull off a good GR movie. Like what iron_man7 said MSJ is merely re-tooling the script so it can be shootable. so there are actually at least 2 people rather than MSJ doing everything himself.
another important factor is the subject matter...Daredevil for instance is a much more complex charcter than GR. The DD movie's main problem was trying to cram several different storylines into one. the result seemed very rushed and the story suffered because of it.
Ghost Rider on the other hand is very simple....very straightfoward. your basic horror movie w/ lots of action.
a film that is much easier to make IMO.

the trenchcoat idea is new too....
I agree MarvelM...that Catwoman outfit really stinks!! i still cant believe WB would be that stupid to use that particular costume throughout the whole movie. if she wore it just once, like to a costume party at the beginning of the movie before she gets "superhero-ized" that would be one thing.

How excited am I for this movie?
The answer is VERY. I can't stop checking into this here website and the Comics2film.com site to see if there is any news at all about the movie. I find myself wondering about it constantly and it even affects my dreams. Well, it's not that bad, but it's up there for things I want to happen now.
I watched a trailor for the next Matrix movie the other day and there was a shot with some dude (Agent smith I think) on fire. You could tell it was digital animation but it still looked fantastic. I'm lead to believe that this is going to be the same technology that they'll use for this movie (and possibly stole it from the people working on the project now)
Also, I watched "Pirates of the Caribean" last night and seen how great Johnny Depp is (like in every role he's ever been in). I keep on thinking how different the movie would be with him in the title role, using a Ketch story line. Wouldn't that be perfect? I sometimes wish that they would have went for him over Cage but then again, Cage should do it justice as well. He'd better or I'll personally kick his ass... maybe.
Any thoughts?

Man ive been waiting to see this thing since it was first mentioned....wayyyyy back in 1983. all those years of hearing they were making it and then it gets stopped for some reason was VERY aggravating to say the least. I only hope it will be different this time around.......I just cant take it no mo'!!! :)
But anyway i agree that Depp would make a perfect Ketch....and he still can! I think its great that Cage and co. are doing the Blaze storyline 1st....but what is stopping them from doing the Ketch storyline later on in sequels? Have Cage do Blaze for 1 or 2 more movies and slowly introduce Ketch who would take up the Ghost Rider curse from his brother John.
I see alot of potential in this becoming a series of films....if done right of course. GR might not have been a HUGE success in comics but it might be just the opposite for movies. But we will see on that one.....
FlameHead

I agree wholeheartedly on that one. There's no reason why they cannot make a series of films on this character (and the rest of the midnight sons for that mater). Introduce Dan in the next one and then introduce the whole midnight sons story lines in the 3, 4 5 and so on movies. It could be a huge franchise.... if of course people take to the first one. It all has to do with the first movie. If they do it right, then it's a win win situation for us all.

I doubt it would be marketed that heavily considering that Ghost Rider isn't a very popular character when compared to Spider-Man and The Hulk. It would probably get as much marketing as Daredevil or Blade, although personally, if it was a marketed as much as Spider-Man and The Hulk, I wouldnt be complaining.

imo i think GR will at least have the same kind of advertising as Daredevil ...which was about 45 mil i think. it could be a little less as the producers may think the image of GR alone would help draw in intrest. kids just love skulls and fire! :) Cage would also be a factor of course
chances are good that there may be a limited figure series like Hulk/Spider-Man. hopefully there will be 1 or 2 villains that will be included in the line.

I guess I'm just sooky because I wanted to see Depp in the role. I'm just gonna have to wait and see what ol' Nicy boy is gonna do.
Johnny Depp would make an awesome :ghost: but i think Nic Cage is locked in...

Idk, I think Cage will do a good job, though I'd rather have Sutherland playing my name sake.
The only thing I have against Cage is that he tends to overact sometimes.

Sutherland would be quite a nice choice as well for Johnny Blaze. He certainly has the intensity that the character needs.
I think Nic will probably do a good job as well. I'm hoping that half the movie is going to be the Ghost Rider anyway, wich will all be CGI. I mean, seeing ol' flame face kickin some ass is what I want most of all. Johnny Blaze and his family, blah, blah, blah, that comes second.

Oh yeah. Face/Off is certainly a dandy. I was just talking about this one on a John Woo forum. I think this movie was one of the best ideas of all time and it was pulled off greatly by woo and the cast.
As for ol' flame face... the more vengence, the better... and what about that transformation. I can't wait to see Nic Cage's flesh melt away from his bones....

Ok....
here is some news that I came across. this was an email that was sent to the owner of a Nic Cage site ( http://www.cagebypage.com ).sent by Eric of "Comic Book Movies".
"According to the latest updates on Ghost Rider, Nic Cage is very much attached to the film, as is Jon Voight. Although, there hasn't been any "official" signings yet, you can bet that Nic Cage will be Ghost Rider.
As far as the production goes, you already know they have pushed back the start date to "sometime in 2004". Best guesses are all we can say. Look for a Fall 2004 production start, with a possible April-May 2005 release."
Now this guy is merely guessing at the production start...it could be still for summer of 2004. But seeing how Cage keeps putting the GR movie on the back burner I personally don’t even think a 2004 production start is possible.
The thing that gets me is that neither star has officially signed on to the movie. If that is true it explains why they can keep pushing the movie back and it also makes me wonder if Marvel is really serious about making GR at Sony.
The good thing about it is they still have a chance to get someone else to replace Cage if they have to.

Hmmm...
the recent update from Stax says that Sony hasnt even recieved MSJ's final draft of the screenplay. Odd...i was under the impression they had it for awhile.
This explains why there have not been any official signings yet or set shooting dates.
I just hope that the script will be decent so that this movie will get put into actual production.
Another surprise was that there "have been no "substantive conversations" about casting Voight."
Again i thought there were at least talks about getting him onto the cast at the main villain.
There seems to have been a lot of "half-truths" concerning this project....

Cage still sounds like hes attached....although no "official casting" has taken place.
got this from filmforce:
"Right now casting and shooting dates depends on Sony's reaction to Johnson's script. As soon as the studio gets the script then decisions on filming dates and the casting of supporting roles will be made.
Nicolas Cage is "solid" to star as the title character. He will shoot The Weather Man before tackling Ghost Rider."
Hopefully there is still a chance for a late Spring / early Summer shoot.
The thing that could throw a wrench in the whole thing is if Johnson's script turns out to be crap and they would need to do a major re-write.
The script is almost finished. After reading posts here I am happy to see how similar the script is to what's been tossed around on the boards. Can't say too much about it at this point. Hopefully soon. I'll keep you posted.

One thing that i like about Cage is how he does extensive re-search for his part. I'm sure we will be given the best performance as possible and it wont be "phoned-in" like some actors tend to do.
But anyway....

Has anyone ever seen an acrobatic/stunt troop called España extreme? I watched one of their live performances in Chicago this summer, and they're truly amazing. They could do the most incredible things with motorcycles, including the cage trick with four motorcycles in one cage and a pretty woman standing in the center. The performers could also ride along tight-ropes, then secure the bikes and flip them upside-down fifty feet in the air. Several times I was absolutely sure they were going to die, but of course they never did.
Anyway, I was thinking that something along those lines would be awesome to see in the GR movie. Not just Knievel type stuff (though he's great too) but some death-defying acrobatic stunts for the carnival sequences.

That would be cool to see and Blaze did alot of those kindve of stunts in the 70's comic book.
Maybe at either the very start of the movie (to introduce the characters) or in a flashback scene re-telling Blaze's origins.

Oh, wait. That'll be from the thousands of dead comic fans after they watch the film, assuming Marvel follows the trend it did with Daredevil, the Hulk, and (to a much, much lesser degree) X2.
Well, I'll put my pessimism aside and see how it happens. Scorpion death scene from Mortal Kombat seems to be about all we really need, don't we?

Ok since stunt riding is to 1970's, How about blaze being like
a illegal street racer, type. But he messes up and end roxxane ends up being hurt or killed. He makes a deal with mephisto. Boom..... Ghostrider, but mephisto being the prince of lies roxxy stays in a coma. Blaze is pissed so he takes off, just wallows in pitty(kinda like he did in the orginal series)
Well since Ghost rider was released the walls
between hell and earth are weaked. You see various Demons and monsters walk the earth. Anyway Caretaker shows up and
Convices Blaze to stop wallowing in self pitty and do something.
He returns to new york, which has been transformed into hell on earth(think inferno). Ghostie confronts mephisto in huge fight.
You hear mephisto drop hints of Ghostie's past( lets use noble kale's past, I know that ghost rider said it wasn't him but it's a good past so let's rock it)
I all so think that blackout should kill roxxy.
You see hints of the ghost rider past and learn that blaze wasn't the first.
Blackheart should be plotting on his father the whole time and in the end stabs him in the back.
In Hell york you hear people talk about how come the heroes aren't saving them.
That's all I got right now......................

Stunt Riding is not 'too 70's'. A failing carnival depending on stunts and motorx type exhibits by riders who are almost over the hill could make a good adaptation of the Blaze origin.
I want a kickass opening like Blade though. Some street crime action interupted by a sonic shockwave as GR approaches on the bike or something, and then pans back to the first view of GR in all his fiery glory. Make it something right in your face. GR needs a strong, iconic presence in film like Blade has to be successful.
With the stuff they are filming bike action today (Torque, Biker Boys) I think GR on the bike could be done very well. You could possibly pull from the motor action fans, outlaw biker/chopper fans and comic fans. With Jesse James and American Chopper being so popular, right now is the perfect time to make this movie.

GR should not overplay demons. Mortal agents of a single demonic being would be cool. Crime Lords knowingly or unknowingly under the influence of evil beings would be okay, but when demons are really pushed in a movie it often dooms a movie to a niche audience. For widespread effect the humanization of the antagonist is important. Look at Xmen, it opens with Magtneto's origin and that is a great backdrop to set the rest of the movie against. We have a little bit of empathy for Magneto.
Johnny, Roxxy and Crash are about all you want on GR's side. The internal battle between GR and Johnny has plenty of room for a whole movie without bringing in sidekicks or other unnecessary sidekicks or mentors.
Beating Mephisto directly in the movie could be a mistake because it could narrow where sequels could go. Battling Blackout or Blackheart, or even a 'conflict turns friends' thing vs. Hellstorm or another of the Midnight Sons would be great. MSJ did really well with Blade, I hope he paints GR with much the same style.

Has anyone given any thought to how GR's skull should look? I mean it can't just look like a anatomy chart skull, or realistic if you will. It needs to be able to convey emotion and be somewhat pliable. Similiar to how Texeria drew, a warped version of a skull, but still obviously human.

The skull should look like its making an evil grin. I think it would add some menace to the skull. I don't think the skull coveying other emotions wouldnt work very well, and IMO, just wouldnt translate well, and conveying his emotions should be left to body language and his voice (assuming he talks in the movie.)
Now here is my question: How would you like to see the transformations handled? Should it be a day and night thing or should it be triggered by something?
BIGGUN
01-09-2004, 06:02 PM
Ive always thought that GR should only come out at night....and should be triggered by Blaze when he feels GR is needed, at least at first.
But there should be a scene or two where GR tries to force the transformation. I would rather see them go with the idea in the original 70s comic where Ghost Rider was a evil demon who tried to enter our world at any chance he gets.
Initially it would be Blaze calling the shots in the 1st movie...but as GR grows more powerfull in the sequels (if any), learns more of his true identity, and as Blaze's will starts to weaken he should be able to force the change whenever he feels he may be needed.
This would give the story a little more umph as it will set the 2 against other....a true Jekyll and Hyde story.
As far as the skull goes...there should be some emotion shown. I feel they need to have a constant scowl on the face just like in both 70s and 90s series. However they need to be carefull as too much facial expression on the skull would look cartoonish IMO.

Well...it seems Sony is getting ready to do "Luke Cage" for a possible release in 2005. Now im wondering is it possible for Sony to release 2 Marvel movies in one year (Ghost Rider and Cage)?
There hasnt been any GR news since November...and recently it was said that David Cronenburg is getting ready to do a movie w/ Nic Cage in 2004. Since GR keeps getting pushed back over and over again im thinking what will probably happen is Cage will do Cronenburg's movie (or something else) after he is done w/ Weather Man in March/April instead of GR.

http://www.moviemaniacs.net/index2.htm go to the pic of Neo on the left side...click on it..click on Message Board...then click The Asylum..but you may have to sign up to read it..not sure)
and one of its posters
started a thread about how he came across some info on the next line-ups for Marvel Legends. This was from a British toy store called Epic Heroes and supposedly it was taking pre-orders for Marvel Legends 6,7,8 and 2 box sets.
In ML 7 it had "Movie Ghost Rider" on the list.
Keep in mind this is only rumor...nothing solid yet. I wont be convinced until the line-up is announced at Toy Fair next month.
But if this is true then maybe the GR movie may go into production this Spring afterall. The downside to this is GR will only get 1 figure and not a limited line like Blade or the Hulk did.
We will see....

The Ghost Rider for wave 7 is the original GR/Blaze character from the 70's and not the movie version as first thought. Hopefully, this will have a interchangable Johnny Blaze head and flaming Ghost Rider skull just like the very first GR figure did (made by Fleetwood) from the early 70's.

Also....
read on the forum for Raving Toy Maniacs, someone had a Q&A w/ one of the people at Toy Biz and said that some of the new figures (like Ghost Rider) would be packaged w/ a interchangable head. So now you can have either a Johnny Blaze or a original GR. I also imagine that the flames can be removed from the bike.
I think someone at Toy Biz was a fan of the old Fleetwood figure. Same style of bike and the interchangable head is another clue. Cant wait for the figure :D
On a more downbeat note, i read that Weather Man is supposed to shoot from late Feb to sometime in May. Then I heard Cage is supposed to do Lords of War in the summer. Add this to the fact that Elektra is going into production this May it looks like Ghost Rider might have another long delay ahead of it. :(

Yeah...sucks about Cage:( They should have looked for someone else as Blaze. Delaying a film for over a year because of an actor is crazy! Unless Marvel is deliberately trying to delay production....hmmm
BUT...there is still a very very slim chance of a Spring 2004 start....there hasnt been any official "bookings" for Cage after Weather Man. They said Lord of War would be sometime in the summer which could be anytime from June 20 to the middle of Sept. Right now i guess the chances of GR starting in the Spring looks about 30%.
Supposedly the next issue of Wizard (out this week?) will have some Marvel movie news including GR. Hopefully they will have something substantial other than the generic response that i got from Comics Continuum who said:
"Ghost Rider is a POTENTIAL 2005 release. They're working away at it. There's no greenlight or shooting schedule yet.
Rob" (from an email that i recieved dated 1/28/04)

MSJ is a start..but you can also try Avi Arad or Kevin Fiege. MSJ and Foster are going to be pretty busy w/ GR and Elektra. Arad and Fiege have normally been the guys talking to the press or taking questions from fans. Maybe the moderators of SHH could help? Maybe they can find someway to pass your questions on to them...
Whatever the info is, it cant be good. Normally the anouncement for the production start of a movie is pretty big and i doubt Marvel would waste it by putting the info first in Wizard rather than let a paper like Variety do it. More than likely it will be an announcement that production has be delayed until late 2004 or even sometime in 2005 :(
