Those are awesome manips of bailey, but a fair representation of what he'd look like as Superman? No. Eion Bailey Will never have a body like that.
But very skilled manips none the less.
lujho
08-13-2004, 03:33 PM
None of the other actors will have a body like that either. The guy in the World's Finest trailer by Collora is the only "real-life" Superman we've seen who is "Alex Ross size" and frankly he looks ridiculous.
Whoever gets cast should get as big as he possibly can without looking ridiculous.
darkzombiemutt
08-13-2004, 03:36 PM
I hope nobody gets that big either, the guy in worlds finest looks gross in the costume. Im not saying Bailey would make a bad Superman, I was just saying that those manips are not a fair representation is all.
lujho

I was only really judging by the face. His face looks like Superman's in those pics, moreso than in all the other pics of him.

Thanks Mr. Bauer. I just watched Superman II and tried to see if i could reimagine what would have happened If zod attacked metropolis and it not being slapsticky. Thanks for that pic of Cage as Supes, he looks like such a gomer. Made me laugh.

Wasn't quite ready to jump ship if it wasn't Welling (LOL), but that manip is really amazing at conveying the character as *I've* come to think of him. And yeah, the image in my mind is very influenced by that of Reeve. That manip speaks volumes. The eyes are magnetic and the jaw is just perfect.
There is a great diversity of manips here. I love Darkzombiemutt and Superadam's teaser poster approach. Cas hits 'em out of the park with his fantasy art approach. And this last one from Adenjo just has me slack jawed. It's mesmeric and SO Superman. Way to go guys! You folks are AWESOME!!! :D

Quaid played Jesus' dad in Frequency. My whole point being that if thery were to do an origin story, Clark could be young, just like he was in S:TM, and Quaid would be a great dad.
Phlashman
08-15-2004, 07:32 AM
But in frequency it was over a 20 year time gap or something?
Puckenstein
08-15-2004, 07:35 AM
It was actually 30 LOL. And when Quaid was playing Caviezel's dad at the age of 60, his makeup looked pretty good I think.
Basically, Quaid finds baby Clark. Quaid gets older when Clark grows up.... and then we dont even really need to even see Quaid with Caviezel if we dont want to - ala S:TM. But if we need hi, make up will work.

Say, Stewie, is there a webpage where I can see all of your S-shield manips together? I'd love to be able to see them all in one place, and with your permission, I'd like to use them as examples for an MB thread I'm thinking of doing. I frequent Godawful Fan Fiction's media forums, and I was thinking of starting up a thread on whether or not the S-shield should be changed for the new movie. darkzombiemutt
08-17-2004, 12:29 PM
I agree, It has nothing to do with his acting chops, Law is great. But as a modern day Superman I dont think he's work as well. Now if they made a Superman movie that took place in the 30's or 40's, then I think I would get behind him. He has a classic look. But also what Joey said, he doesnt have the innocent look like I imagine Superman to have.
pimpernel
08-17-2004, 12:31 PM
He wouldn't even work as Superman in the 30s or 40s. BATMAN yeah but not Superman. Superman has a certain look, no matter when you set him, and Law just don't got it.

that the hard thing about welling manips pimp, most pictures you can find he is painted up to look like a kid. try going to www.tomwelling.com and going to the gallery and finding screenshots from interviews where he is not wearing makeup. He normally looks older in those. Although some facial hair may need to be erased.

Not really.
Lois and Lex are very important characters in Superman lore.
They're supposed to be in a Superman movie. So what that Rosenbaum and Durance are in it? I think (hoping that Durance is a good Lois; we'll find out Sept. 22!) these two are good representations of Lois and Lex.
I understand people's beef with a Superman movie that starred Kristen Kreuk, Sam Jones, John Glover and Allison Mack. That would be "Smallville: The Movie."
But what Wilde did in his manip? That's actually a movie I'd pay to see many times over!
btw, love the poster!

Regardless if it is the property of the WB, I put in the work, I was the creative mind behind the modifcation. Its wrong for someone to take my hard work and use it for their 10 min poster without first asking if it is ok or paying respect to where its due.

People have used my manips which i actually put alot of work into adding backgrounds, color correction, shadows, ect. Manips that are obviously mine and not just a photo with a head pasted on, and they use the hard work i did and just paste some other head on it and put their name on it like they created something on thier own. Do I like it? no. Do i have to put up with it. Yup. Its the internet, Im stealing some photographers "art" to make my manips in the first place. If it was something that I made up from scratch with all my own ideas it would be a different story, but we are borrowing from others ideas and art in the first place. If you don't want to risk something being used, better not post it. Does that suck? damn right it does, but thats life.

you'd think that people would actually be more flattered then anything if someone felt their artwork was good enough to reuse in something else. Plus it's not like anyone's making money here off of them, it's all just for fun.
The again, perhaps a little blurb in the post about where you got part of it from might be a nice gesture, but I dont think uts anything to get too upset over

If you don't want to risk something being used, better not post it. Does that suck? damn right it does, but thats life.
well put

Its just annoying. I mean I relly wouldnt care if he said, "logo by stewie" or something but its like "HEY LOOK WHAT I DID, HOPE YOU LIKE IT!"

He might have been flattered if Wilde had included something like "logo done by Stewie" in his post, but he didn't. Now 99% of people here know it's Stewie's anyway, but the point is the guy didn't give credit where it was due.

Let's try something a little different.
Is Warhol's painting of soup cans the intellectual property of his estate, or of the soup company?
Stewie's image is comparable to that. It's not a manip using photos that never belonged to him, it's an interpretation of something that he built from scratch.
It's his artwork. It's his property. End of story.
The least anyone can do is acknowledge his effort.

it was not built from scratch. He altered a copyrighted logo. Just quite trying to justify your ignorance man.

For all we know that logo was saved on the guys hard drive awhile ago and he didnt remember the persons name who posted it. I mean I've used superman logos in my manips but never gave anyone credit for them. I dont know who made them, doesnt mean Im being disrespectful, I mean, i did use it, I obviously liked the logo. I wouldnt take it as a slap in the face, I'd take it as a really big compliment.
And didn't Andy Warhol create the campbell's cans for the company and not just as personal artwork?

I'm assuming you don't realise that you can make an "altered" copy of something - be it a logo or anything else - and still have built that copy yourself FROM SCRATCH. In doing so you have made an artistic interpretation of that logo.

He did numerous paintings of various things, and some of them were commisioned, but not all of them. I used to know more about it but I haven't read up on it for a long time...

Coming into this convo quite late, and I may be stating something already pointed out, but the Superman logo (lets be clear here - a big "S" in a 5 pointed diamond shaped shield), is a trademark and OWNED by Warner Bros. You can't legally sell anything with that logo on it without 1. getting their permission first, and 2. paying a royalty for using it.
That said, there's also an unwritten courtesy among webmasters of fan sites and fan-created Internet art not to use their work without 1. asking their permission first, and 2. crediting them with having created it. This of course assumes you *know* where the snarfed work came from and who made it in the first place.
Both points are valid. Just sayin'

Who would have thought the manip thread would turn into a battle ground?
We (I mean anyone who has created a manip) all have "stolen" "borrowed" from someone elses work at some point, some of us credit.. Some don't.. Ok, so Stewies \S/ was used (which to be honest i'd see as a compliment), but Stewie wasn't credited.. No point in fighting folks... A simple "i'm sorry" should have cleared this mess up before it got to this stage.

Well, it seems my latest manip has started quite a large argument. First let me just apologize for using your artwork without giving you credit or asking permission Stewie. However, let me set the record straight, because as darkzombiemutt suggested, I saw that logo on this site a while back, and saved it to my hard drive because I thought it was a great Superman S. So when I started making this poster, I just looked for the coolest looking Supman S I had in my folder. At the time, I had no idea who designed the S, so I decided to just use it on my new poster. I you want, I'll update my first post, so it says "S logo by Stewie Griffin" ok. Again, I'm sorry I misused your artwork Stewie, it won't happen again.

Nah its straight man. I don't want to be an ass, sorry if I acted like one. Its just annoying to come in somewhere and see your work in someone else's poster with no acknowledgement. It looks good though. The blue is a bit bright, but still it looks good. :D

It looks like the \S/ is a big pointer to his codpiece.
It looks like the shield is made of plastic, and that Supes has been standing too close to a fire.
Also, the trunks are vital in order to break up an otherwise huge, boring section of blue.

bigger shield and higher boots can be an alternative to the red pant

Not knocking the work thats gone into this, I don't like it (not the work.. the design).
The \S/ is way too long and the actuall "S" is just too.. sixties psychedelia(sp)?.. Also as mentioned before, something is need to break up the huge are of blue below the \S/, the classic costume may seem to some a little camp or dated.. or both.. But the classic simply works IMO and shouldn't be seriously messed with.
