Because he did all the work to put it togeather. Under what circumstances would it become his manip? If we was the one that personally photographed dean cain and welling seperately then added the elements togeather? Come on man. It's a manip, thats the nature of them, without taking others photos and recombining them, manips wouldnt exist. Just start over from scratch if you want to make a joke about welling. Not to mention in the one you did, I see nothing of superman on the pic. Please take note of the name of this thread.

I like Superheroes, I like comic books, I like Superman, even if i am more "Marvel" because it is more easy to find in France, but it is not F...ing sacred, if you look 1 or 2 pages before you could see that i have made fun about my own manips, and if somebody take my manip to make fun with it, i will not make a scandal about it...

about Welling being Superman? i don't know, i'd rather not, but if Singer choose him, i think it will be because he can act.. the only thing i don't want is a SMALLVILLE movie, because what work on a TV show would'nt work in a movie

On Dean Cain's costume the belt is cheaply made (the buckle looks horrible in comparisons to the Reeve outfit) and the "S" is poorly stitched on.

oh, dear...

the boots were a different shade of red from the rest of the costume, and just looked kinda crappy. the \S/ looked like it was made by a drunk. the blue was nice, but had this sparkly effect. the way the cape was attached just looked funky sometimes. and the belt was...not good enough.

Michael Corleone

There was like 4 different costumes too. They kept screwing with it till like the end of the first season. Remember the cape being attached to his shoulders? That was horrible. The final result wasnt bad but not great.

what is the most important for you? a costume that look good in a movie, or a costume that is identical to the one in the comic???
we can blame Cain's costume for having been worst than Chris Reeve's one that was anterior, but it has been made by the same kind of guys that mades Georges Reeves' one

Well George Reeves' costume was a staple for a very long time of what Superman looked like outside of the comics. It captured the essance of the comic and difined a generations view of who Superman was. Cains costume was not only a techical failure but also a visual one as well. It substituted staples from the past for trendy and absurd tweaks. The lace up wrestling boots were horrible and a total lack of imagination on the writers part in effort to make his life seem more problematic. The belt buckle was a tweak that well just wasnt needed. The cape was a failure from the start. No thought was put into it. It almost choked him in the pilot. Than there was the hanging of the cape on his shoulders. I put it this way because I just dont know what they were trying to do. The boots later became a darker red hense clashing with the rest of the costume. The cape was WAY to big. I could go on and on. It was basically a long list of bad judgement calls. Reeves' costume worked for its day. Reeve's costume worked and also captured the look and feel of the comic book. That is what you want to do. After all.....it is a comic book.

Every single Superman suit thats been on film has been an absolute Disgrace. They should be ashamed.
And Dean Caine? I love my latin homies but Superman is not that ethnic.

The new suit will probably be made of some other material and the 'S' will be embossed slightly or even solid .
And i bet there will be NO red underpants.

...and NO Tom Welling.

Michael Corleone
08-20-2004, 02:37 PM
Uh yeah. Disgrace huh? Thats great...well your opinion means squat now. Oh and Cain isnt Latino. He is Welsh, Japanese, French-Canadian and Irish. If your gonna dump on people at least get your facts straight. But if you feel the costumes were a disgrace than the films were as well. Because they did not do what was intended.

Well yeah, I guess it was crap but that was for the time it was in. To those views of that time I bet they though it was okay. We are so sophisticated when it comes to TV and Movie viewing that we see and expect wonder attention to detail. I think once they get to that the suit will look great.

08-20-2004, 03:36 PM
To compare a suit that is over 50 years old to todays standards is absurd. That's like saying that the original Star Wars sucks because the f/x arent as good as the new ones.

WormyT
08-20-2004, 04:00 PM
420house,
It doesn't matter what Dean Caines exact ethnic background is, I'm of mixed race as it is too. But Superman should be white regardless. I suggest you read a Superman comic book.

The costume in the reeves movies was the best so far, but we hold a higher standard nowadays hence X-Men wearing leather instead of yellow Spandex, DareDevil, Spidey costumes all work.

The 'S' will be redesigned slightly I'll bet, and the suit will not resemble a halloween rental suit used in previous screen adaptions like Lois and Clark(horrible yellow square buckle).

We all want a great costume. If that offends you, I suggest booking a superman costume right now at your nearest Costume store and be first in line at the store when it opens. Steal the suit, don't give it back, and come summer 2006, wear that crappy suit with the red underpants to Superman 5 in protest.

Don't be surprised if people laugh when your in line though.

i am sorry but the FX technics have evolved much more than clothing technics.... 50 years ago they were able to do a good suit, but they didn't do it because they didn't care at all.... 25 years ago they weren't able to do the same fx than today..

Dean Cains costume is a dark blued disgrace.
With that silly square buckle..just awful.
Look at how much effort they put in a TV series like Farscape and other Sci-Fi shows and they couldn't make a costume thats a cut above a halloween rental.

Good job bweurk.

Its nice to see someone try and do a 'No Red Underpants' costume manip.
And pay no mind to the haters. I did a manip of Bale in the Batman outfit 2 days before the the first image was released and EVERYBODY on that board copied my image and redrew it in their own vison.

Did I care, hell no. It was flattering.

lol funy dorky, it's not about welling but the thought of harnett is just painfull. I like welling but if he doesn't get it fine as long as the guy who gets it looks the part and can act. and thus harnett is not in that catergory hell, he is probably in the same catergory as welling, ecexpt wellings edge is he actually look sa lot mor elike superman than harnett . who has had a string of bad movie sas far as i remember

If you think hotdog lips, big nostrils Welling looks more like Supes than Josh Hartnett then you don't know Superman. Both of them aren't very good actors, but at least Hartnett resembles an Ed McGuinness drawing...

http://www.comicart.cc/martin/supexboxthumb.jpghttp://www.terra.es/cine/especiales/pearlharbor/img/136_bio_josh.jpg

Other than Welling's eyes (which sort of resemble Christopher Reeves')...he has no Superman facial features.

Thanks bweurks,

Well the more I look at that manip the more I hate it.
I think we have too much stuff on the suit.
Look how well Sam Raimi did Spideys outfit. Besides the embossed Webbing and tiny patterns on the fabric, its the SAME suit as the comic. Its as if the comic copied the movie.

Getting around the red underpants is the trick. I remember Nick Cage saying Burtons costume didn't have the red underpants so Its certain the new one will follow suit.
You have to think about fabric tone and pattern. Very hard to do with a manip.

bweurk
08-21-2004, 04:57 AM
actually, what i am trying to do is to give the suit a meaning...
what could it be?
for me it is a traditional kryptonian costume..
i think the costume should be a mix between spider-man's suit and the elvish costume from the lord of the ring.
in my opinion Superman is a knight, Batman is the Dark Knight, the one who act in secret, in the dark, Superman is the white knight in his shiny armor (i don't want a shiny costume don't worry) that is why his suit needs to be colorfull and noblish (i am not sure this word exist...)

Okay, I've finished my first manip. Yay! :)

Okay, aside from changing reeve's face to welling, I deepened and darkened the blue, replaced the \S/ logo with a better looking one, and I replaced his plastic yellow belt with a gold one that I made using Simply 3D 3 (a very limited CGI program). I also managed to make his muscles a little bigger than in the original picture, and I removed the seams from the tights to make it look better, as if it were made of a material like Neoprin. I also adjusted the color on Welling's face to make it match the skin in the picture better, and I tweaked his hair to look more "Superman" like and less "Luke Skywalker" like.

http://www.oikourgos.com/sonic/images/welling_manip_1.jpg

Also, I made a slightly less conventional version with no red underpants, which I replaced with some red patches on his shoulders, hips, etc. to help break up the blue in their stead.

http://www.oikourgos.com/sonic/images/welling_manip_2.jpg

I'm pretty happy with how they turned out, considering they're my first try. I've done a little few manips of other stuff before (like actors as Dragon Ball Z characters), but I think this is probably the biggest manip project I've done so far.

just think of a cowboy spider moneky riding around on a little red tri-cycle. his cowboy hat too big, his spurs jangling, his gun holsters dragging behind him as he rides, and his gold sheriff start sparkling. "RIDE, CHIMPSTRO! RIDE!"

Nice Manip bweurk,

I think collar looks nice but I wonder how he would hide it under a shirt. Your suit looks like a version he would wear at special appearances like recieving the Key to a city or Superman interview on 60 minutes.

nice though. Looks like you spent some time on it.

thanks, actually, i don't like the classic \S/ because it is a "S"...
for me the shield must be the emblem of Kryptonian Superman's Family so it can't be a "S"... that is why i tried to do something that looks enough like a "S" to be mistaken by mankind for a "S" but that is not a "S"...
for me it is not a Red "S" on a yellow field, it is yellow symbols on a red field
