Pimp, your choice of Pullman is inspired.
I think he would be a fine Batman.
I'd love to see Batman set in the 40's
with Pullman in the lead shot in a film noir style
looking as you depict him here.
Forget about elseworld. That's thisworld.
That would be a more credible Batman
than the latest incarnation rubber suited Ninja
who rides aound in a dune buggy
armored personnel carrier.
Ooooooohhhhhhhhhh that was meeeaaaaaannn.
You KNOW how long its been since Burtons misguided 1989 Batman. Finally we get a serious Batman movie. The new Movie will be superb.
I take it your not a big Batman fan.

Xan-El,
I don't know about Jennifer Connelly as WW. Shes never been tough or physical in any movie, shes getting old, just had some kids and is kind of mellow (fondness for chronic perhaps) but she is a great actress, just not tough me thinks.
What about my choice, Kristanna Loken. Shes young and after watching T3 she could definitely use a rope in and out of the bedroom. Heres the manip I did a while back.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v181/Halfricaun/ww01.jpg
Getting old? My arse. :p I don't wanna see Wonder Girl anyways, i wanna see Wonder Woman... just the same way i didn't wanna see Superboy. Sick of seeing young brainless starlets getting all the limelight just cos thats what Hollywood says we are supposed to find sexy. Jen is sexy. Moreover, she seems like she iis intelligent and deep and compassionate... and those are all Wonder Woman qualities.
I do agree slightly that maybe she isn't quite fiesty enough for the role tho. I've seen her be VERY fiery in some roles, but its not something she does often. But at the end of the day she is a very talented acteress and i believe she could pull it off perfectly if given the chance.
Loken on the other hand just can't act. All she had to do in T3 was look mean, and she couldn't even pull that off. She just looked pouty. ;)
Top 3 Wonder Woman candidates...
Jennifer Connelly
Monica Bellucci
Angelina Jolie
:)
Anyhoo...

Kal-L:
Yeah Lynda is a fine looknig lady. :D I tried putting the suit onto Jen's body but it was too tricky. The only bad thing about Lynda Carter is that the waist on the Wonder Woman suit was sooo tight that it gave her huge bulbous grandma hips. :( She doesn't have them when she isn't in the suit, but in the suit... bam... big hips. I had to trim them down a fair bit.
As for Pullman... thanks. I totally agree. I'm sure the new Batman movie will be great... but i'd prefer a more cerebral and menacing DETECTIVE Batman to the kinda ninja-esque action-oriented one we usually get.

I'd say the only one in that list that comes close to it would be Angelina, who quite frankly looks more "crazy girl" than "superheroine." Monica is OK, just a bit too old, and Connelly man...she's more a dramatic actress than a tough girl. Not fearsome at all!
I can somewhat agree with what you say about the whole "young girl" vs. "woman" thing, but you also have to note that Kristanna Loken is 25 years old---hardly a "girl," and the exact same age Lynda Carter was when she played Wonder Woman.
I guess back in the 70's, women were striving to be women instead of keep their girlish qualities, but times have changed! ;)
The only thing I'd say Loken is lacking would be acting chops.

See my whole point wasn't about Loken's age or anything. It was thus: she is shiet.
And how are Jen and Mon not perfect candidates? Wonder Woman isn't some kick-ass action heroine or tough girl or whatever. You seem to be totally mis-understanding the character. Not that i blame you for that tho... i blame DC cos they haven't given her any decent writers in decades. She has the most potential of ANY DC character, yet is consistently just about the worst written character out there. :(

Really? I heard Wonder Woman was being written well lately, by Greg Rucka I think. And it wasn't all action either, if I'm correct.

You're right, I've never read much Wonder Woman in the comics. I was more referencing her potrayal in Kingdom Come---womanly, but pretty diesel.
I still can't see Jennifer Connelly, though. She seems a bit too...I don't know, passive? Doesn't Wonder Woman commandr respect, have a real presence to her? I don't get that from Connelly.

Yeah but IMO its like how long is a piece of string. She may be getting done quite well now in comparison to how she has been done in the past, but IMO that still isn't saying much as in the past her writing has been totally dire. Its like saying that getting kicked in the nuts once is better than getting kicked in the nuts twice, it might be true but its STILL getting kicked in the nuts and therefore sucks. ;)

i agree how some pointed out that Jenny Connelly isnt much of a tough-chick (breaks my heart to say it since i'm a fan :(), Monica doenst have the right look and Angelina..... she's a great actress but nah, she doesnt "look" like WW.
Loken..... hmm, cant see beyond her blond, golden tanned persona. maybe, if they'll make her up right.

I'm also looking for good pics of Jor-El. They can be from S:TM or any other source, even comics or toys i guess.
Finally, can anyone post some good Metallo pics please? From comics or toys or anything. I just wanna get some kinda idea of what i could make him look like in a possible manip.

This is something I've been working on. I'm still not 100% happy with Clark, but you have to sacrifice something when you use a small picture and enlarge it to match your other art. I swear, Wellign doesn't like to smile while looking directly at the camera. On a side not, it scares me how much he ended up looking like Reeve in the Clark half.

Not taken the wrong way at all.
My girlfriend commented that Clark looked "too cartoony" but the problem I ran into was that the Welling pic I used for Clark was much smaller than the entire image I manipped. So when I enlarged it, it got distorted. And when things get distorted in Photoshop, they look really pixelated. So, I had to do my best to fix it. Like I said, I wasn't 100% happy with the turnout, but was a guy supposed to do?? LOL

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v221/puck420/clark.jpgPuck you certainly made the most from what you had to work with.
Enlarging the small picture inevitably diminishes the final result.
Clark looks somewhat artificial because of this
and does not balance well with Superman.
It has enormous potential though and the essence of your intent is conveyed.
I suggest you manipulate the same head shot you used for Superman
changing the hair, adding slightly thicker glass rims, and darken
Clark's complexion for contrast with Superman.

I really like the dynamics of this one, but there's one tiny (and I think easy to fix) thing that catches my eye - his legs look way too long for Welling. I think you mentioned slimming the waist down a little, and that may have distorted the proportions slightly.
Apart from that - and i'm admittedly nitpicky - I think that's one of the best manips of him that i've seen.

IMO DZM that manip is one of the best i've ever seen. I don't mean any disrespect by this and i hope i don't offend you, but after the comments from Steelsheen and JcDc i took the (bloody huge) liberty of altering your manip ever so slighty. The only minor problem i had with your manip was the little black bit at the neck, so i got rid of it and fixed another bit of neck where the join was showing slightly and i toned down the colour a tad on Welling's face to make him seem a bit more realistic.
I really hope you are OK with this tho DZM, cos i meant no disrespect. Your original was VERY cool and well done. :)

i think its how the body is twisted to face one way and the head facing the other
or maybe the head is too close to the neck
whichever, it looks a little off. it probably wont be too noticable if reduced to a small avatar but seeing the original size, you could see where its a little off.

Wormy, I find your visuals a so strong
that any caption unavoidably detracts from them.
You limit the interpretation to the spoken word expressed
which is inevitably weaker than letting the viewer
imagine a variety of scenarios of his own.
This manip without captions is far more effective,
lending itself to myriad interpretations which
are thwarted by forcing just one with captions.
You are a painter Wormy, not a writer.
That said, funny as usual.
Without captions, more than funny.

I COULD do that...but honestly, I didn't do anything to begin with to his facial features. Face-wise, that's 100% Welling. I did par down the hair some...I just find it incredibly difficult, personally, to do a Welling-Superman manip with that inappropriate hair he always has. Yeah, it kinda looks like matted-down ****, but shape-wise, it's closer to Superman's look. I just can't deal with a wild-&-long haired Supes. I just wasn't raised that way. :)

He is not a great actor though... Point is he's good, Welling isn't and can't hold his own up against a GOOD actor let alone a great one :o
what about that scene where he acted opposite Chris Reeve's Dr Swann? i thought that was pretty good.
i understand about you're complaints about Welling being a bad actor. i see it as more "distracted" than bad. its like the cast from Star Wars or the cast from Bran Stoker's Dracula. they're all good, its just that conditions at the time of the shoot doesnt really allow them to strut their stuff.
you want lousy acting? see Britney's movie *shudder*

Where did I say Rosenbaum wasn't good???????? YOU are being dumb. Read more carefully. He said Welling is great. I said he can't be great because he can'
t even hold his own to a good actor. Which means he isn't even a good actor let alone great, which also means Rosenbaum is a good actor.

No matter how good the manip actually is, the haters of said actor will show up and make nasty comments on it because they have nothing better to do. dont take it personally, it happens all the time. Only listen if they actually give constructive critisim. No manip is perfect, no matter how good it actually turns out, so expect at least some negativity.

Adenjo and darkzombiemutt (interesting name, btw :) ) I think you are both extremely talented and have admired your work. I'm one of those people in the background who is guilty of not always handing out praise when it's deserved. So, keep up the good work, you may not get as much feedback as you'd like, but there are people sincerely enjoying your efforts. Ultimately, you have to create for yourself though.. but I'm sure you both already know that. ;)

Thanks Serene. It is all for myself, I really enjoy doing it, It just works out that other people have an interest in the same subject. If someone doesnt like one manip or the other, who cares. If your source material sucks, there is not much you can do. I think there are alot of folks on here that dont get enough credit, Pimpernel being one. I love his Bruce Campbell black and white ones. Thanks DZM and Adenjo. I feel kinda guilty now that i don't comment more on your work tho. You guys (deservedly) alerady get a lot of praise in here anyhow so i rarely comment on either of you cos i just feel like i'm repeating people y'know? My comments before weren't really aimed at anyone in here. It just seems like every time i post a pic outside of here i get crap in response. I posted my JLA pics in the DC board recently and i thought those are probably the best manips i've done so far, and the only comment i got was some guy taking the piss out of my casting choices. Why bother even posting that crap? I set up that thread in the Fan Art forum too and i get sarcastic crap about using too many Photoshop effects, which a) i haven't actually used b)i don't HAVE Photoshop and the Paint Shop i have is 5 years old and c)i plainly stated up-front that i'm not interested in doing "photo-realistic manips cos i'm deliberately TRYING to make them look like paintings. Argh.
The only thng thatbugs me about the Superman forums is how blinkered some folks seem to be. I've seen some totally AWESOME manips get posted here which have really knocked me out. And i've seen those same manips get not one single comment. Then i've seen some lousy pieces of crap that were obviously knocked out in 3 minutes get re-posted and re-posted over half a dozen pages and praised like its a previously unknown van gogh. Its so frustrating sometimes. Thats why i don't do many manips now. I LOVE to make manips and i'm always at it. But i don't love posting them. The thing is tho, when you make something that you think is really good you get all excited about it and you wanna show it off. But you have to balance that with the crushing slap in the face that you get when you post said manip and it gets totally ignored. Its wierd. :(

I dont comment alot on peoples manips cuz most of the time Im scanning through the forum at work with my bosses around. So i dont have alot of time to write a detailed comment on work I like. Today is an exception, my bosses have disappeared for the afternoon. But like I was saying before, I like how you tend to work outside "the box" and do people like Campbell in a retro setting. Very interesting. And your work on those JLA paintings are great. Id really love to see what you could do with photoshop though.

Pimp, I completely understand where you're coming from. I think that the work you do is great, as is the work of so many others on these boards. From one fellow manipper, to another, try not to take anything on these boards personally. People have every right to say whatever they like on here, and more often than not, it's a lot easier to grant criticism than it is to grant praise. Like it or not, that is part of being human. What others say has absolutely nothing to do with you personally or the quality of your work. I know that it is difficult to see the difference there, especially when you've put a lot of time, effort and heart into a particular piece, but I would invite you to try that on. I would hate to see you get discouraged because you didn't get the responses you were looking for. You are far to talented to let a few unfulfilled expectations stop you from producing your art. I hope that makes a difference for you.
BTW, the great work on these boards as of late has prompted me to do a few new manips...they're almost ready to display. I'm looking forward to sharing them with you guys. As always, please keep the dialog going!

Do whatever you want.
I was hoping someone would actually put Wellings head directly onto my image to see how it looks.
I've always thought of doing an 'almost' black and white manip with only the 'S' in color for a while but couldn't get it to work. Then I finally found a decent photo of Anson Mount with a straight face.
And lastnight as I was getting ready for bed and ready to shut down my computer I was gonna post a straight color of the above and then at the last minute I de-saturated the body around the 'S'.
Then I added the '2006' and fake credits. I think the smaller the text for the date(2006) the larger scale the poster appears to be.
I always imagine, what would work in a theatre hallway.

I agree.. Having all the colour and focus on the \S/ would work amazingly well in a theatre hallway... It takes the focus from the "actor" and puts it all on the character.. Great idea and great execution mate

In my thread " KrypJonian Sketch dump" in the fanart forum, I just posted (yesterday) a pic of Superman in a Fleischer style costume. The problem is, it's in b&w, I'm no colorist.
If anyone would like to color it, and even turn it into a manip image, I would greatly appreciate it. You guys are all so talented, I want to see what you can do with my pic. Plus, Supes is in a decent pose for finding heads to manip on there.
PS- Pimpernel, DZM,Ade, and all the others I'm too lazy to mention, you guys do some fantastic work. I'll always keep the compliments flowing
