As for J.C he is so much far from looking like Superman that it would be sickenin if he did get the role.
take a good look at welling's manips, and then look at the comics, and you will see he does resemble even the comic version of superman!
he also does look a bit like reeves which helps out alot...

I have faith of him as an actor, he'd do great in the role, I do however have less faith in his appearance. Its not a perfect Superman look, but it will at least do.I respect your point of view DZM.

An admirable effort Ade [on both accounts...].

I do think that his face is a little too slanted. Maybe playing around with the angle would help. Of course then part of his face may get covered by the rail, but would that make it look more convincing?

I think the whole point of the comparison was to show all the people that think Reeve was such a "man's man" and Welling is too "modelish" for Superman....this is Reeve's model pic. Look at the season 4 promos of Welling flying or any "Kal-El" pic......same freakin' shirt....almost the same hair.....I buy the resemblance.

Here's a potentially controversial argument...

A movie Superman needs to have fine, delicate, sensitive features.

Why? Superman is infinitely stronger and more powerful than a normal man. When he fights ordinary criminals he's starting off with a massive advantage. It would therefore be very easy for the character to look like a bully-boy or a thug, imposing his will over others thanks to his unmatched power.

A "fascist superman," if you will.

Sticking some hairy, muscle-bound, heavy-browed ape with a tough-guy look into the Superman costume is more likely to add to this impression. Check out the famous screentest by Salkind's wife's dentist for an example of what I mean.

I say that the role of Superman requires someone whose features are gentle and sensitive, to offset the character's incredible power and make him more sympathetic and likable to the audience.

You should appreciate this, JCDC, because it's one of the arguments Jude Law has in his favour for the role.

Tom Welling is a manipers dream...
You can spend ages working on a manip using any other actor and it still wouldn't look half as convincing as a 30 second hack job using Welling......
Welling has the look (a lesson in stating the obvious) :D

I agree completely. It's a fantastic manip. It's clean looking and has a great background that gives it the Metropolis feeling. But Caveziel just isn't Superman, and there is no way around that.

I think the very light complexion
makes Caviezel look about 10 years older than he is.
The added "Superman" hair makes him look a little strange.
Maybe working with his own hair though not

Kal...I appreciate your constuctive criticism wholeheartedly. (Better than listeneing to other people ***** about how "not Superman" JC is.) I think he came out so "light-skinned" becuase when I started working on it, I was trying to color match the original pic. But, then I went on to change the shades of the actual costume, which I guess kinda threw everything out of whack. And about the hair - I hate Jim's hair. Any way you do it, he still comes off like Caviezel. As I said before, JCs hairline, forehead and nose dont really work for me in terms of Superman, but that is something I would be willing to sacrifice in order to get a great performance in the film.

Back to the drawing table I guess.

oh come on, thats an excellent manip. Seriously, try finding decent pics of Caviezel to manip, its not that easy and the good ones have been used already. Do a google search on him and pretty much "Passion" pics are the majority.

I decided to try and find a pic of him that even remotely reminds me of Superman. I failed, but I did find one that I think is a nice picture of him and I don't know if it's been used for a manip yet or not.

i think when a guy starts to look to closely at another grown mans facial features is when he should really start asking himself about his own sexuality...
Welling looks the part to nit pick about man's nose, and or lips are absurd!
though out the history which is yet to be written of SUPERMAN in the next oh 100 years or so how ever many countless movies are made there will be many people who play the part all will look diffrent, and have there own look.
Not everyone likes the way Chris Reeves looks, and not everyone thinks he is the end all of Superman!

To me he looks like he's in the middle of a fight, either trying to use his laser, or he's trying to look for something with his x-ray vision, trying to get something or someone in focus.

I swear to god, I thought I was the only one who thought welling reminded me of a horse, now its hard to tell and he doesn't look like one, but from some pics something at the back of my head makes me think of one, thats all, haha. ok anyway, he has the basic superman features, its just his lips are out of control and something about his face doesn’t give off that superman vibe, also looks 18 instead of 27. He just needs some emotion on his face, maybe he doesn't feel like superman and thats why he's hesistant to play the role. I agree with the guy who said we’re setting the bar to low. I don’t wanna settle for just anyone, we must try harder. This isn't about welling,caviezel or anyone, its about Superman.

Also, it’s easier to manip welling coz of the sheer magnitude of pics out there, most of them dealing with superman. His best manips seem to be the ones where he has some sort of expression on his face, like the one below.

get him some acting lessons and if he can look like this, it would be perfect.

It was Dan-El. And I don't care what anybody says. Its a damn good manip.

On a side note, I was up until the wee hours of the morning screencapping my Frequency DVD with different shots of JC to get some fresh pics to manip. I think I got some pretty good ones, but after all was said and done, I was too tired to go thru them and check out the fruits. I'm heading up to Blockbuster later to get my hands on Highwaymen so I should be returning soon with a new manip. Hopefully something people can see Superman in, and not just throw away as merely "Caviezel in a Superman suit."

Adenjo, I have no problem with the stubble, its the Dean cain body that sucks and ruins the manip. Ive done 3 dean cain body manips and only one turned out (cuz I hid it in shadow) I think his body frame/ height and costume are all wrong, especially when using someone who is taller and thinner for a head. It ends up looking off to me, no matter what you do.

I have to say I would take Welling over Bale for Superman.
And that is saying something.
Bale is not Superman material.


Of course, he is the exact opposite of Superman material. He has a kind of dark vibe around him, more moody and brooding. Nowhere near the boyscout type Supes is. In short, he's Batman, bub, he was born to play the role. :o
