Ok, let's say enigma's right and that these changes have been made to the suit. If it's true then I guess I could learn to live with it. It'll still be Superman. My question is though, what the hell sense do they make? Either in the story or just as a design in general? I mean I'm guessing somebody submitted a design that looked good with those changes and thats what they went with (if its true that is) Maybe these manips just aren't nailing it, but based on the way they look, the changes just make no sense to me (no offense at all to the manippers.) If this movie is using the past two movies as a vague history, then how can Superman's suit be different all of a sudden when the previous movies stuck with 100 percent classic? Maybe the keyword here is "vague" or maybe I'm just hoping that enigma's full of it, but I'm just tossing all this out there to see what everyone thinks.

what do current materials and technology have anything to do with the kind of changes enigma is suggesting? These changes could have been made with the same materials used back in 78. Why not use these "current materials and technology" you speak of to bring the classic suit a big step forward to looking more like the comic then ever as opposed to adding all these do-hicky decorative changes.

If the hairstyle and proportions/cut of the various costume elements in the movie are anything like this picture I'll be over the moon.

I really love this psuedo-retro, realistic take, similar to Stuart Immonen's version. Beats the hell out of the "Image" style of hyper-stylisation, ridiculous distorted poses and anatomy and muscles upon muscles.

I have a great idea for a manip but I suck at photoshop and stuff......if anyone wants to try give it a try...it's a classic scene...you have lex sitting at his desk with his finger tips touching each other at his mouth, while if you look out of the huge window behind him, you see superman with his arms crossed just floating in the air with a stern look on his face....I thought it would look great if manipped well. I got the idea from an episode of Superman TAS. It's from part 3 of "The Last Son of Krypton"

No..the boots are like "Mr.Incredible" from the movie "INCEDIBLES". DONT make the "V" at the top of his boot.
Also he has really thick soles....at least 2 to 3 inches.
the bottom of his shorts do not ark up that high...they go more straight across.
I would even push the belt down a pinch lower and add a little more torso.

the muscles are not that defind on the suit.

The cape is NOT tucked the collar is closer to the neck like a T- shirt.
you would see the blue on both sides of the cape near the neck.

I agree. Pat posted a pic comparing Welling to Reeve for proof that he looks more like him... It actually made me think even MORE they look nothing a like. With Routh and Reeve though, I see a lot of similarities.

I was waiting 'til I saw a pic of Routh in the suit, or at least what he looks like off set. Wilde, man, you basically provided that for me. Regardless of the resemblence to Reeve, there is the ever-more important embodiment of Superman in Brandon Routh. Tom Welling suits the part for smallscreen-Clark, but Routh is truly the right choice for bigscreen-Superman. This is gonna be a good movie.

I was waiting 'til I saw a pic of Routh in the suit, or at least what he looks like off set. Wilde, man, you basically provided that for me. Regardless of the resemblence to Reeve, there is the ever-more important embodiment of Superman in Brandon Routh. I love the blind assurance in Routh that has yet to be proven by anything he's been in. Keep in mind this is from a Welling fan, but last week's Smallville "jumped the shark" and my allegiance to the show is damn near gone. I've come around to this new movie and am waiting eagerly with open arms to it kicking ass. But for Christ's sake don't say stuff like that, a manip doesn't qualify an actor to be labled perfect, it just means the person that made it is good with Photoshop. If you want Welling to go away stop mentioning him. He's not the guy to rag on constantly, he's a 'yes man' when it comes to the show, if the show sucks it's the producers and the writers. Every actor is a 'yes man/woman', so stop ragging on the guy, he's not to blame for the lameness of Smallville. Who is to say that Welling wouldn't have kicked major ass?

You know, I'm just going to say it, and I know others will share this thought as well. This is hands down THE BEST manip picture of Brandon Routh as Superman on this entire website!!! I know there are some very good ones of him here and there done by some really talented people, but THIS one wins them all in my opinion. The fact that he looks so similar to Reeve in this pic is also nice, even if his hairstyle isn't in the Supes style, his demeanor, his facial expression, his overall presence all scream Superman.

And I'll add this as well, seeing this pic of Routh as Superman has really gotten me to think of no one else being Supes but Routh. I truly believe especially now just like Christian Bale with Batman, that Brandon Routh was born to play Superman.

Manips can often be deceiving, but I am definitely looking forward to seeing Routh after his training regimen and wearing the suit. If he's as ripped as Batgirl says he is, he'll at least look great. :)

Good use of color in that manip :up: Impressive. I think his smile is very similar to Reeve, that's probably the first thing noticably similar. He has the same thinner upper lip and bigger bottom lip thing going on.

something i mentioned before: assuming that's how the cape will look, there'll be holes in the suit for the ties of the cape to be threaded through, go underneath the armpits, and tie off in the back. snaps on the shoulder will hold the cape on the shoulders and retain the ruffled shape. that's how reeve's cape was attached except his cape did tuck i a little bit at the collar. still tied off under the armpits and under the back with snaps on the shoulders. if you have a cape of your own with ties, try it. it looks completely unnoticable unless it's an insanely tight shirt.

if done the way i mentioned, it is practical and would work perfectly. as to how it looks onscreen, don't know if people would look at that and go "ok...that's some good velcro". without the cape tucking in or some from of clasp like the romans used or darth vader (or more appropriately j'onn j'onnz: the martian manhunter) i don't know how acceptable it would be

I always believed Enigma saw a suit, but just ONE of them, and not the one they've settled on. They must have made many different variations on prototypes, to see how they really looked.

Just look at how many different costumes (or partial costumes) they made for Daredevil (on the DVD), while the one they actually settled on was closer to the classic version than many of the other ideas we saw.

Chris Reeves. It is beveld,sculpted 3D....It would fit in the palm of your
hand.

The collar is "like" a T-shirt and the \S/ shield is high near his collar-bone.(Stupid)

The whole suit has little diamonds in it......

The boots are nothing like the comic.
They have very thick soles(yuck) AND the high point of the boot is on the outside of the calf.

The blue is not as dark as I thought it was the first time I saw it.
It is more like Reeve's suit. Still doesn't help it.

The shorts are the worst.....I know when you guys see it you will
be PISSED. LOL!!!!

The cape is two toned dark blood red on the out side and bright red
on the inside.
It felt like rubber.

The shield was blood red as well.

this manip is being posted and reposted to show us the progress of things regarding the suit. I don't mind seing this manip over and over if the information is legit. And in this case if it is, I'm not really impressed, I mean a smaller «S» is fine, but that's preety small, it takes up less place than the bat on Batman's chest. And the collar is to high, Calrk couldn't even afford to bend forward, because blue could show beneth his shirt. If the suit has to be one thig, its logical and practical. Nice try but no cigar...

But watching that episode again, I take back what I said. The costume is good, but could've been better. And it's funny because that costume looks just like Routh's costume (from the descriptions we've been hearing).

The collar is like a T-shirt.

The \S/ is raised and smaller than Reeve's


PS: That episode did not suck, but it just proves that "Clark Kent is who I am, Superman is what I can do" is a terrible idea, and the explanation that the show gives is awful.

No offense to the manipper, but if the costume ends up looking like this... well....I won't be happy. I really don't think we'll be seeing such bizarre or drastic looking changes as we all think/have been told about. I remember having a conversation with Editor Ivan Cohen when I interned at DC Comics about Superman and asking him about what kind of storylines would make good Superman stories like what if he had an affair with Wonder Woman, and one thing I remember him saying is that (to paraphrase) "Superman has his deal, and you really can't stray too far from that. The fans know what Superman is and what he should be...so basically your story idea sucks" or something along those lines. DC Comics themselves though really have little control over the movies produced though... I dunno. I just can't see Singer messing with a major property of WB like what we've been seeing in manips. I guess we'll see.

This is a great look...but hey the shrunk S shield! Shouldn't the suit scream "Hey motha****ers, I'm Superman!!!!!". Shouldn't it scream "returning messiah"? Personally, I'd be more for an Ross-sized S. However, I'm now starting to warm up to the raised neckline and logo on the gold belt.

pretty good, I just hope that the real suit isn't as skin tight and defined for routh. Nothing wrong with showing muscle but you dan't want the costume to look it was painted on.

I know lot of people love it so this is probably just me, but I hat that friggin hair!
Seriosly, they should not do this hair in the movie.
If I must say in my experience in photography, hair can make the biggest difference in a person's look.
Looking at his facial features, I would say he must have longer hair than that. Something between his publicated photo and that manip with the Reeves smile.

it still doesnt cut it... u borrowed the head from StarvingArtist's manip. Atleast give the guy some credit. and try to tone the neck and face colors. at this point, it just looks like the head is floating infront of the neck
