That doesn't mean much though. If you had put the same poll up in the Begins thread when the first pic was released, you'd probably have a similar outcome. Same with if it had been done when X-Men came out.

Whoa, good job on those pencil (by GDW) and colouring (by Thunder Emperor and Wilde).

I see it happening here as well.
I still don't like the Begins costume and there's still a debate over it in the Batman Begins boards so I don't know how you can say that. Most of us have just accepted it but we still haven't stopped talking about what we would rather Nolan had done. Nolan won us over with the leaked script not that rubber suit. Singer needs to do something along those lines because his 'Superman' suit is pretty lame.
As to the 'Tumbler', it's a weird looking vehicle but it kind of makes sense that the Batmobile would be something unlike a regular car. I still love the Burtonmobile and the animated Timm/Dini mobile. Oh, and I still have a soft spot for the Barrismobile. Having the Tumbler doesn't take away from those vehicles, it adds to the mythos. Something the costume doesn't.
Everything I said about the Singer costume I still stand by as well as everything I've said about the Nolan costume.

05-10-2005, 01:46 PM
Routh doesn't have near that muscle definition, or even that much bulk.
It's much closer to Rouths size then most comic Supes :D:D
It's ment to be a comic (book) interpritation.
igotatromboner
05-10-2005, 02:12 PM
Well you did ask why Routh would not look like the pic besides the face. Besides, that is way closer to comic size Supes than Routh.
Sorry, I ment it is closer to Routh's size then most comic versions are to Routh's size, lol, not closer to Routh then it is to comic size, sorry.
I asked becasue I thought you were saying that Routh and the suit and everything just won't look like that on screen (I was wondering besides the obvious that it is a drawing.)

Jim Lee's Supersuit is ready for film, but with a classic \S/.
The blue is still a little too light on Lee's Superman (which would be the colourist's department, but i believe he has some say as it is always similar.)
igotatromboner
05-10-2005, 05:05 PM
Jim's Supes is pretty much perfect in my opinion. Some people don't like the \S/, so if that was changed to classic, it would be perfect. And really it's not lighter than the blue being used on Routh.
I think the blue that is on Routh is not rich enough either.
But yes Lee's Supes is damn good (aside from the attrotious \S/ design, wtf was he thinking???)
HulkofSteel
05-10-2005, 05:30 PM
But yes Lee's Supes is damn good (aside from the attrotious \S/ design, wtf was he thinking???)

igotatromboner
05-10-2005, 05:53 PM
Well a deeper blue would be ideal, but Lee's blue in the suit varies. Sometimes it's light, sometimes it's dark. Darker is better I guess. His \S/ doesn't bother me as much as the new movie \S/.

that manip looked atrocious. the layout was very bland, the pic he put in was bad, and he went overkill on the motion blur. plus the color was boring. if people make something that looks like crap, i'll say it. garbage.

not to be picky, but the red isn't the red on the real suit, and the yellow is a bit dark on the emblem

Am I the only one who thinks the bat-suit is worse than the Superman suit?
WaveMan2k3
05-12-2005, 11:55 PM
NO I like both suits for what they are. I actually really like the Superman suit. I just wish that they would have made the \S/ bigger like Reeve's. That imo is just how Superman should look. The big \S/ is just so blunt and in your face that it is slightly intimidating imo. With a smaller \S/ I think it looses this trait a little bit.
But I do not believe this will some how magically effect the acting and how well Superman Returns will turn out. I don't remember a time that I haven't been so eager to see whats new today with a movie before. This one even though there has been some slow weeks and we have very little info about the movie, that my gut just tells me that this movie will rock. I believe this because Singer is a great director. Sure he has had some questionable castings and such (and no I don't want TW to be Superman, he said he didn't want to and I respect that) but that wont change what he will be able to do with all of them. Yes BR was basically an unknown but if I recall correctly Reeve's was basically an unknown when he was originally cast. Heck look at TW on Smallville. He was an unknown when he was cast as well. I perfer that Superman stays to this tradition of having unknowns play his role.
As for the Bat suit I like it because it as said is very much intimidating. Imo this is the nicest of all the Bat suits. I'm just wondering if he can live up to Keaton's shoes. Imo Keaton was the best of all the Batman's, so Batman Begin's will be interesting to watch. I have a pretty good feeling I will love the movie though.
All in all I am looking forward to seeing both of these movies asap. I think they will both do extremely well in the theaters and that they will be huge hits.
Again just my $0.02.
Well Supes isn't trying to inspire fear, while Bats is very much trying to do that.
:) I know that. One is basically unstoppable and one isn't. One is an alien and the other is human. These things play greatly into the design of the suits and they show. Batman was always about fear. In the comics everyone except for the Supervillans feared the sight of the Bat. Superman on the other hand was never truel about striking fear into a man's heart. Instead he was about showing justice to those who do wrong and saving people. But if you think about it one would think that people would fear Superman more then they do because of all of his gifts. Sure he is the guardian of Earth (if you will) but he is also there to protect us from ourselves. Meaning that if you are working for Lex and you see Superman you should be shaking like crazy and trying to save your own ass.
Now I know some people will say that Superman never really killed people and Batman does it all the time, and this is true but if Superman wanted to he could rule the world. Get where I'm going with this? Bottem line is that he should be a little bitmore intimidating. But who knows maybe it is just the picture and that once we see more pictures (prays for another pic very soon) my thoughts of him not being at all intimidating will change. I hope anyways. :)

I can't say which one is worse, but I certainly am not thrilled about the Batman costume. To me, it doesn't look much different than the other Batman movie costumes. Too much rubber like material. I do like the material of the cape.

I like both suits, but I wish they would've went with a non-rubber design for the Batman suit. I thought it would've been a better idea to use smaller plates of the rubber interwoven into fabric that way it could've shown false muscularity, but it also would've given him prime mobility. I know this sounds uber-dorky, but on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, their costumes used plating mixed with fabric, and they were able to move mega-fast in them, so I think using a few ideas from other stuff here and there would help immensely to keep the suit looking a bit more like the one in the comics, and also to modernize it, while giving it the logical aramament it requires to look functional and practical in a real-world sense. The pure black also bugs me. I guess I've always liked the black and gray, myself...but then again, I do spend too much time thinking about crap like this. I'm late for work again. Damn.
The material used to create the Batman's costume has no bearing on the defensive capabilities of the costume. Wheteher the costumer uses leather, spandex, or cotton the film itself would demonstrate it's durability, by something as simple as an impressive nomenclature for it.
Superman's suit is the perfect example, the film not the fabric tell's us that it is indestructable.
Rubber is no more effective in portraying body armor properties than any other choice. It's origin for the Bat-suit material of choice is tied firmly to the selection of Keaton, whose slight build made the physique enhancing molded musculature quality of rubber a practical and necessary choice to give us a physically impressive Dark Knight. And unfortunately that tradition has been carried forward to BB.
From that angle the Superman suit is far more successful than the Bat-suit.

I just find the bat-suit too bulky. I don't mind the colors (color) but it looks like his neck is 3 feet wide with a tiny portion of his face poking thru. Don't get me wrong, I think BB will own all and can't wait to see it, but I'm not crazy about teh costume. Rumour has it that he gets a new costume at the end of the film tho.

That's completely not true. The emblem was much larger during the 40's and 50's.
Wayne Boring drew the thing almost to Superman's navel. Wait... not almost... to Superman's navel. And Wayne was the regular Superman artist for a little while.
What happened was Curt Swan reduced the size of it. Not criticizing - just pointing out. Curt Later brought it back up in size a little.

Get Routh out of there and it'll be cool. I still can't get over how bad that suit is, there's no excuse for it. You can't say or do anything to justify it. I'm sick of how everything has to be raised now. What's the big deal about having the S flat and right on the suit?! It would look alot better.
Just like the raised webbing and spider on the Spidey suit it's starting to bug me and how it reflects light and looks white so they colored the webbing on the toys white and it looks dumb and doesn't even look like Spidey. Super man should have a much bigger S.

I heard people dont like the shade of red, so here's the new costume, with just a lighter red

holy crap
it actually makes the suit look good. I would've liked the suit if it was released like this

sigh, ok looked at it a second time and I recant what I said. It is my opinion that Singer took the worst elements of the many incarnations of superman and threw them all together.

i am not 100% sure i have reproduced Routh's anatomy but i am 100% sure that the anatomy is correct for an human because it's based on Reeve's body with very little changes (the neck is a bit longer an the shouders are a bit different)..

the suit doesn't bother me even if i think they could have done a bit better (i don't really like the neck line, but i think the \S/ is perfect)
actually by making this manip, i realized how much most of the suit features make sense... while i was watching what i was doing in the little navigation window in photoshop i understood why he choosed to make the suit like that....
the body looks huge, especialy the torso and Routh looks really strong... i know Singer wants to emphasize on how big is Superman..
Rourh looks a bit young and his face (especially in my manip) makes me think about Superboy but it's only a minor detail and even if he still looks young in the movie i think he will be perfect for the sequels... i read some people here saying he is not big enough......you can say he is too young, you can say the suit sucks, you can say what you want but there is one thing you can't say... It is that Routh is too small
As for the colors, i think they won't appear on screen the way they appear in the picture we have... i think these are the real color of the suit, but they are that way for practical reasons... remember that Guillermo del Toro said that Red was a very difficult color to film??? i think the will digitaly trick the color to make this "maroon" become dark red

grrr this face..... it is indeed Routh's face, but i don't know why he looks like the hidden son of John Haymes Newton (superboy season 1) and Elijah Wood

I think that the collar just makes it look like pajamas, that is aLOT more so then a regular super hero suit normaly does. It just weakens the design. Not from a personal opinion point, but truely from a design stand point. It is just bad estetically.

MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!
When Superman comes back on earth he discovers that the world has moved without him... Lois is married and has a kid, his loft has been rented to a family of five, Lex Luthor has become rich and powerfull and he bought half of Metropolis to make sure that Clark Kent (the world knows who he is) will never find an appartment... even the Fortress of solitude is occupied by Polar bears... Even worse!!!! the army is now able to defend the earth against any villain..... at the end Superman is homeless here is a set pic
