I know this isn't a manip, or at least not really, by me so much, but has any one else noticed this?

We know that the outside of the cape is darker, and the inside lighter.

This part of the cape as been confusing me. If you look at it, it would have to be the cape arcing back, and what we see should be the inside of the cape, but it's dark. If it is the outside then there should be the lighter inside visible underneath.

You can almost see a line arced under it, but the colour is the same as the wall.

I don;t know it this is just a trick of the lights, or if maybe they did some colour corection and messed it up.

Just something I found curious.

Also gotta love the zipper on the inside of his boot.

gdw, not quite sure what to make of your post. To me, it's always looked like the left portion of the cape is bent inwards, which is why the middle portion is so bright. If there was color correction (which is likely), I doubt they'd get the colors all wrong.

That is what I would figure as well, but where is the portion behind it that should be visible underneath it. Given the angle of the shot and the curve of the fabric, there would have to be something there in the void in this one;

Also in regards to colour corection, i have seen many instances where such minor mistakes are made, especially in comics with their colouring in general. But also in magazines and when they print images.

In particular the many printings of this image when mags did their own colour corection they actually made both portions of the cape the same shade.

Yes but then the bottom of the cape would be going something like this, and the cape would be compressed upwards.
The light green is the closest part of the cape and the dark green is the part wrapping behind it;

My theory is that the colour corection, or even just the lighting issue was that the lighter red was very highlighted and the edge was not so visible againse the wall background and so it was made to wash out against it.

Yeah, thats been confirmed, its a two tone cape. Darker outside, lighter inside, and probably two different materials (from the look of it in the photo anyways). I was just making the point the inside lining might not go to the outer edges, hence it curling back in the bottom left of the official photo. I think it explains it better than them doing weird unnesseccary photoshopping.

Other than his head being too large (an unavoidable part of the manip I gather), it looks good. I wonder what the new symbol would look like. I still think the collar is ok in the new suit.

Not really, youve seen his citizen clothes, also the collar can be rolled down, it sure as hell is not as hard to hide as a *****ing cape you know, and in Spider-man, his collar was a LOT higher and boardering on an actual turtleneck (as can be seen in any scene where he removes his mask) and yet no one has yet mentioned or complained how he wouldn't be able to hide that under his civies and as such his suit sucked, or at least the collar.

Don't be so selective with your logic.

Man - there's no getting away from it. The suit is incredibly drab, and the boots, cape and shield are all a dirty, dark maroon colour.

It all just looks very seedy, and doesn't say "Superman" at all.

you know, after looking at so many manips here, i can honestly say that maybe in this age of film making, you can't have bright colors on costumes. You can't have bright red on the cape and boots, it will look cartoony.

A guy stood up and basically told them that they were "destroying an American classic" by making the movie (not entirely an exact quote but that was basically what the guy said). The guy got applause from others around him.

That looks pretty good, but see, every drawing I've seen that's supposed to be of the Singer suit "fixes" it in some way. It might be subtle, but that collar/cape looks better than the actual one. Those trunks are more v-shaped and higher-waisted than the real ones.

Small differences, but still noticebly better looking that what we've seen of the real suit.

Damn he looks good in this roll. The red and collar still don't look great, and this seems to confirm that it is what we are getting rather then the "corected" colours that we suspected via the glossy that BR.com has.

that's a good manip also... I like the brighter shade of colors especially how it looks on the boots which look a litte smaller, also a good thing. However I dislike the smaller emblem which makes his torso seem out of proportion... sort of looks as if it were elongated.

That is, his head is made bigger, or his face is elongated, or his skin tones are changed to make him look less youthful.

Any time a manip is made just using a picture of Welling, sans modifications, he looks terrible IMO.

Now, the latest Routh pic, is just that, a picture. No alterations.
You can say whatever you want about the costume, but I think he looks great as Supes. Welling just doesn't have the physical dimensions to play Superman. People rip on Routh for being too scrawny, youthful or immature looking. But what anyone fails to mention is that Welling embodies these characterstics even more than Routh does. I do agree that Routh doesn't look as mature and classicly masculine as Reeve did when he donned the tights, but I think in a few years (read: by movie #2 or 3) he'll be right there. Welling on the other hand will never be able to overcome his physical structure because he'd just have to change his body too much to fit the part.
No amount of working out would do that.. the same way if *I* worked out for months on end, I would never embody Superman, I just don't have the right build.

Needless to say, I'm happy with the choices Singer's made and I think this should be one heck of a movie. I'll go with that unless proven wrong next June.

I'm glad you liked the manip.. however, I have to disagree with the comments about Welling and the welling manips...
Looking back through the pages of this thread you'll see many actors faces used to create Superman pics... Welling was one of the most used actors and was consistently one of the most realistic choices.
The manip I posted used the Smallville promo shot from the Smallville pilot episode, it wasn't stretched out or changed in any way (it was made a lot larger which lowered the picture quality thus causing me to add an effect over entire manip)

So there you have my opinion finally I agree Routh will make a good supe's, Welling however will always be known as Clark Kent from Smallville, no matter what he does he's now typecast and probably would not have looked as good as what Routh now does .......Lets just wait till 2006 and see what happens...

actually, in your manip, I was referring to the posterization of the colours. It distorts Welling's skin tones in a way to make him look older. Any time Ive seen a picture of him, he has those rosy cheeks that make him look like a kid.

I will agree with your last statement though :) and if I may extrapolate... Welling is definitely the next Dean Cain. (hey, he had a bit part in Rat Race...)
