BTW, simply because the NHL lost its flavor with me in the mid-90s that does not mean that I never followed hockey (after I graduated in 1994 and decided to go into the film business, I didn't have to follow every sport anymore so I stopped following hockey as I developed a different view of the NHL as an adult that I had when I was younger). I was actually a pretty big NHL fan growing up and used to be completley on top of the NHL. However, as an adult, I made the choice to stop following hockey - it is that simple. You don't see me discussing the NHL in this topic, because I don't follow the sport. I never claimed to be a hockey fan.

Why would you do such a thing? I would never turn down a thing like that but I know I could never do broadcasting in any way because i dont like speaking in front of people, I dont know why, I just dont. I am going to take Sports Literature and Society next year for Sports journalism, it should be interesting.

It was a very difficult choice to make at the time especially since I did just graduate from the best broadcast journalism school in America (especially for sports) and had the summer MSG TV intership under my belt. However, I changed a great deal from my Freshman year to the end of the my Senior year and realized that what was once very important to me was longer as important.
Personally, I knew I would always be a sports fan, but I simply couldn't devote a career to sports.
Also, I never wanted to give up being a fan by being in the business. I like to go to the ballpark with my friends or watch NFL football all Sunday in the bar or go tailgating at a college football game, etc... and when you work in the business you give that up (it is the same reason that I left the film business in 99 because I was sick of having to read every script before they were films and wanted to simply be able to enjoy movies again).

It is a good school and also a very fun school as well (Plus, being a New England guy you are used to the cold and snow so you don't have to sweat the weather)
I made some really good friends from the Boston area at Syracuse as it seems a lot of your peeps go there....

Syracuse has a New York City office, so I took the opportunity to have a formal meeting with one of the Syracuse NYC reps my Junior year in college that I believe helped me quite a bit. I had done some very small local radio stuff and put togther a tape for this meeting. This was 1988 before people had access to much of the recording/computer stuff that is readily available today, so the fact that I did this in H.S. impressed.
Honestly, I found that meeting with Syracuse reps in NYC and then at the university and showing them my stuff helped me, so I would start to get a package together.
I don't really know what other advice to give you (besides the normal GPA and test score advice) other than demonstrating what you have done already in this area, i.e. school newspapaer articles, radio tape, TV tape, etc...

The NFL schedule was released yesterday and I couldn't be happier with Miami's games...
Ulike the last decade, NO trips to Buffalo or New England or even New York in December! Miami plays at New England and then at Buffalo on October 10th and 17th and then New York Jets on November 1st...YES!
Okay Miami does have to go to Denver on December 12th, but the rest of our December games are NOT in the Northeast and 3 of 4 are at home and their last game of the season is at Baltimore on Jan 2nd.
It seemed like for the last 2 decades Miami had at least 2 road games in the Northeast in December - Not this year!!!!
I know it is only April and a little early to talk about the NFL, but....

The Eagles got a nice schedule. While you can never rest easy with certain perennially "bad" teams(the Bengals were a good example of this last year), the Eagles got a break in having most of their games against mediocre teams scheduled back-to-back. Hence, I could see a lot of big winning streaks.
Anyone watch the Flyers game last night? Robert Esche looked incredible. 35 saves, 0 Goals allowed. Looking like the Goalie they thought he'd be when Bobby Clark traded Brian Boucher and a 3rd round pick for him. 3-1 is the series, Flyers have a shot at closing the door at home on Saturday... which I'm planning to attend. Go Flyers! :)

I dont really care, its just an advantage for Miami... but I think we can deal with AJ Feely this year and rough him up a bit.

It could prove to be a huge advatage for Miami if it helps to stop the typical late season Miami collapse in December...however, Miami still needs to actaully get it all together (OL play and such) so I am not putting the cart before the horse, simply digging the schedule

if the OL doesnt do well then the Patriots are just going to walk all over Feely, they need the Offensive Line to play well for Feely's sake, for R. Williams sake, and for all the Wide Recievers... it will effect the whole entire offense if they dont play well.

Draft Vernon Carey out of Miami U, kid's a hoss. Can line up at RT, LT, RG and LG, and play them all equally well. There've been talks about Andy Reid wanting to draft him, but the Dolphins or Patriots should take him at #20 or #21.

That was probably the best deal they could get for Dillon. No other team was offering a second round pick for him. He obviously wanted out of Cincy and he was starting to become a cancer in the locker room. They really didn't need his negativity in the locker room. They are an up and coming team and they have pieces to build around in Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson, Rudi Johnson and Peter Warrick. You can get a pretty good player with a second round pick. Just hope the Bengals don't screw it up like they always seem to do.

There's plenty of Dolphin and Canes fans. As far as the beach goes, I'm not sure if that was an insult. I'd rather be on the beach with hot girls than freezing my ass off in New England.

Actually that's really not true. I mean for one we always have wicked good seasons. Two, I see Dolphins fans all the freaking time, it's pretty difficult not to see Dolphins gear all over the place. There's also not too many band wagoners. Most Dolphins fans have been Dolphins fans for a long while, our seasons don't vary enough to have drop offs or bandwagoners.

My only fond memories of Giants Stadium are the huge summer concert tours that I have seen over the years...Giants and Jets fans are pretty deplorable - Jets fans worse of course...I describe it as this, "Giant's fans go to the stadium and get sloppy drunk and make fools of themselves - Jet's fans go the stadium and get sloppy drunk and make fools of themselves and then they puke"

Patriots RB Corey Dillon Conf. Call Transcript 4/19/2004
Q: Are you excited to be coming to New England and happy to be a New England Patriot?
CD: Exactly. I think it is a great move for me. It is a great move for the organization. I am just happy to be a New England Patriot.
Q: How do you see yourself fitting in with the Patriots offense?
CD: Any way that I can. I know they are a predominantly passing team and I know they like to run the ball occasionally and whatever I can do to help the team win is fine with me.
Q: Did you have long discussions with either Bill Belichick or Scott Pioli before the deal was made?
CD: We had long discussions. They just wanted to get to know me and reassure themselves and they concluded that I am a good guy and everything went smooth.
Q: When did things start to heat up to the point where you thought this deal might go through?
CD: Speaking with my agent Steve Feldman, I met with him on Friday, and he [Steve] said 'Here is our ideal situation. Look it over and tell me what you think about it.' It was a no-brainer for me. That is exactly what I wanted to do and we just made it happen.
Q: Was there some contract restructuring that needed to be done?
CD: Yes. To get me under the cap, I think they were over the cap and my [current] salary would make the deal not happen, so we restructured it in a good manner that is beneficial for both of us. After we did that, everything was fine.
Q: Where did the perception of Corey Dillon being a bad guy come from?
CD: That perception came from Cincinnati. To tell you the truth, I am not a bad person. I am just a competitor and I love to compete and win. It just wasn't getting done there. There are a lot of things that were done back and forth in Cincinnati that I left there. That is in the past. What is in the past is in the past. As you see me and as the years go along, you will get to know me and you will recognize that I am a good guy. I am just happy to be a part of the Patriot family and am happy to move forward in my career.
Q: How hard is it to shed the reputation of being a 'cancer'?
CD: I don't think it is going to be hard because I wasn't a cancer. It was just a point of my having a deep passion for winning. People view that in a different manner. That is in the past and as you get to know me, you will see that I am good person. I am just happy and excited to be part of a winning organization and I am looking forward to the season.
Q: What is your perception of Bill Belichick?
CD: He is a great coach. He is a genius. He is smart. He knows what he is doing. He prepares the team well and I am excited just to be working with him. I think he is, hands down, the best coach in the NFL.
Q: Can you talk a little bit about coming to a new team especially a team that has won the Super Bowl twice in three years?
CD: Well there really is no pressure on me because the team was basically set and they were winning Super Bowls without me. There is really no pressure on me to come in and have the weight of trying to carry the load. The team was well off before I even got here. My main focus is to come there and go to work and be productive.
Q: Were there some other teams that were in the mix there that you know of?
CD: There were a couple of other teams in the fold but as you can see 'if you snooze you lose' and that is basically what happened. I am pretty glad that they did because I couldn't be happier.
Q: How much did your groin affect your running last year in your productivity and how are you right now?
CD: It affected me a lot. I think any athlete with a groin injury and trying to do the things that I like to do, cutting and running with a lot of power and speed, is going to affect you in some way. But in the later part of the season, I think the last eight games of the season, the groin was fine and I was healthy. I was back out there running and doing the things that I like to do. It was just a point of getting touches and I wasn't getting the touches that I was used to getting, which was fine with me because it kept me pretty healthy. It helped my groin really heal. Everything, as of right now, is great. I am in great condition. The groin is fine. No pain. No anything. I am just ready to play ball.
Q: Are you going to come in early and be a part of the offseason workout program?
CD: Exactly. I will be there soon and get acclimated to my surroundings and meet some of my teammates and try to get into it with the offense.
Q: What kind of question did Belichick ask you, Corey?
CD: It was just your basic questions. It wasn't really him asking me questions, but more him trying to get a feel for me and I think he got a great vibe from me and realized, 'Hey, this guy is a good guy and maybe the situation in Cincinnati was just blown way out of proportion.' As we sat down and met for a long time, him and Scott Pioli got to know me, and everything was fine. I think that kind of threw away the perception that I was a bad guy.
Q: When did you meet with them?
CD: I think it was Saturday.
Q: Is it fair to say that you're the kind of running back where the more carries you get in a given game, the more effective you are?
CD: I think that applies with anybody. I can do what I can do with 10 carries. It just depends on the situation. I think a lot of running backs get more comfortable as the game goes along with more carries, but, like I said, I'm a team player. That team is set. I'm just one of the guys. When I come in, I want to be just one of the guys that helps the team win. Carries and my workload, it really doesn't even matter.
Q: To just be another guy on a team that has been successful over the last couple of years, to have Rodney Harrison, Tom Brady and Tedy Bruschi, for you not to be the focal point, is this something that you look forward to?
CD: Being [the focal point], it can get tiresome and it kind of wore on me. Coming to the New England Patriots, there are so many talented guys on this team. I am not going to be the focus point of the offense. You have Tom Brady. He is the best quarterback in the game right now. He has a great offensive line. He has a great receiver core. I don't have to worry about carrying the load. The offense speaks for itself. I think it is a great situation for me because I don't have to worry about all of this other stuff. All I have to worry about it coming in and playing football.
Q: Scouts have mentioned in the past that your ability to pick up the blitz and the blocking as one of your more underrated characteristics. Do you feel that is a fair way to characterize that, one of the things that doesn't get talked about that much?
CD: I think so. As a rookie I wasn't that good at picking up the blitzes and the blocks. As time progressed, I got pretty good at it. I worked on it and worked on it hard. I enjoy doing it. Anything that I can help the team in, in any fashion, I am going to do it. If it is picking up a blitz or picking up a couple of blitzes that is what I am going to do.
Q: How difficult was it for you to run for 1,000 yards every year, having a good individual year, but the team never came to amount to anything in the post season? How frustrating was that for you?
CD: It was pretty frustrating. You can have all of the accolades in the world but the ultimate goal is getting to the Super Bowl and winning. Year in and year out, you get all of the stats but at the end of the day, you didn't reach your goal. It kind of frustrates you in some aspects but it didn't really get me truly frustrated.
Q: As you watched the Patriots this year from afar as an NFL player and watching them through the playoffs, what were your thoughts about the way they were playing as a team and just maybe what your thoughts were on the possibility of playing for them?
CD: It was just one heartbeat, offense and defense. They just play well together. The chemistry here is great and they know to win football games. I never thought I would be a Patriot but I was sitting back and saying, 'This team is good. It is very good. I wouldn't mind if I had an opportunity to find out what the Patriots are about.' It is a done deal and I am very happy. I am very proud. I would like to thank the Kraft family, Scott Pioli, and Coach Belichick for taking the time to do a thorough investigation on Corey Dillon and finding out that he is a really good guy and in bringing me in.
Q: How long is this deal that you have now? You had two years left on your original deal.
CD: They picked up the current two years under my contract and they restructured the first year for cap reasons, which is fine with me. Everything is beneficial for not only myself but the Patriots as well. I think that everyone is comfortable with the situation and that is all I could ask for.
Q: Do you have two years left with the Patriots or did you extend it a couple of years?
CD: It is just two years. We will see how the first year goes and hopefully we can do something long term. I truly feel like this is the place I want to be and I am happy and I am looking forward to retiring as a Patriot.
Q: Corey, what stands out about your time in Cincinnati?
CD: Believe it or not, I still have love for Cincinnati and the fans. I'd like to thank Mike Brown, Katie Blackburn, Troy Blackburn, Coach [Marvin] Lewis … I had some great times there. I set a couple of records in Cincinnati. I'm always going to have love for Cincinnati and that fan base. But, today is a new day. I'm happy to be a Patriot and I'm just going to finish what I started in Cincinnati in New England.
Q: Corey, is there a sense of relief to be out of Cincinnati? Are you relieved with the way things turned out?
CD: I couldn't be happier. It's a big relief, not only to me but [also] to my family. Everybody's happy and they're excited. This is the first time I've been excited about a season since I was in college. I can't wait to get down there and get started.
Q: After going on the Best Damn Sports Show, were you ever worried that maybe that would hinder your trade prospects?
CD: Not really, because what was said on the show was done so in a joking manner. It was just kind of, “Okay, Willie [Anderson] said something about me, now I'm going to say something about Willie.” It wasn't really anything that intense or personal. But, that's all in the past. I wish Willie and Marvin Lewis the best of luck and I wish them well in their season. I'm just happy to be part of a winning program where things can get even better.
Q: Corey, the Patriots play in Cincinnati in August. What kind of reception do you expect?
CD: I'm not too worried about that. I'm pretty sure I'll get a couple of boos, but that's the nature of the game. My whole focus is going out there and winning football games. I'm not too concerned about how those fans perceive me or not. That's not my focus. I just want to win football games and help the team win.
Q: Do you think the Patriots got a bargain? You've been a very productive guy and they get you for a second-round pick.
CD: I think everybody pretty much broke even. We're talking about the New England Patriots. This is a Super Bowl team. They're the defending Super Bowl champs. They got exactly what they wanted. I guess Cincinnati got exactly what they wanted. Corey Dillon got exactly what he wanted. I'm happy and I'm a part of a great organization. It's a good deal all around.
Q: Corey, you said you want to go to a winner and now you're on a winner. What was it about Cincinnati that made you think this couldn't be done in Cincinnati?
CD: I'd been there for seven years. Our best record was 8-8. You can kind of do the mathematics from that. It just didn't add up. Just being me and being a competitor, I wanted to be put in a situation where I could chase down my goals and my dreams. This is an ideal situation for me. I'm happy about it and I can't wait. I'd like to thank the Cincinnati Bengals for making it happen.
Q: If you had to describe Corey Dillon as a football player, what would you say about yourself?
CD: A blue-collar worker, tough, and someone who comes to work and gives 110 percent.
Q: Talk about what your relationship was with Coach Lewis.
CD: It wasn't as bad as everybody perceived it was. It was just a process of feeling each other out. I'm sure as things progressed if I was still in Cincinnati, things would have been fine, but that's not the case. I'm a Patriot and I'm happy. Coach Lewis is a great coach and I'm pretty sure he's going to do great things. He's going to move on and I'm going to move on.
Q: Other than the groin injury, did you miss any games with any other injuries in your seven years there?
CD: Not at all.

OK, anybody else tired of all this fuss over the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry? The two teams played last weekend for the first time since the ALCS, and ESPN, FOX and every other sports outlet of note were all over it. I mean, People wouldn't have paid as much attention to the second coming of Princess Di.
Hey, I admit it. I watched. But rivalry? Excuse me, shouldn't that come with quotation marks? Call me simple-minded, but how's this a rivalry when one team has won 26 World Series since 1919 and the other has won diddly, nada, squat, zero, zilch?
Duke-North Carolina basketball, that's a rivalry. Michigan-Ohio State football. Heck, give me the Cubs and Cardinals in baseball. A rivalry implies an even competition. Red Sox-Yankees? Hey, I got a better one -- Wile E. Coyote vs. the Roadrunner.
Yeah, yeah, yeah -- I know all about how the fans, the players, the front offices, even the owners don't care for each other. So what? There wasn't any love lost between Custer and the Sioux either, but that didn't make Little Big Horn a rivalry.
Two words for you: media hype. And who can blame us? The Bambino in 1919, Joe DiMaggio in 1949, Bucky Dent in 1978, The Boss for the past 30 years -- the Sox and Yankees certainly share a fascinating history. So when they get together (only 15 more games this season, starting Friday), it's OK to get excited.
Just don't call it a rivalry.

Kerry Collins will sign this week with the Raiders and it won't be as a backup, according to the New York Daily News.
Gannon
Collins
Rich Gannon, the Raiders' longtime starter who is coming back from a shoulder injury, will be released, according to Saturday's edition of the Daily News. The paper did not disclose the source of its report.
The paper reported that Collins has decided to accept a three-year contract offered by the Raiders and that it should be finalized this week.
While the Raiders could attempt to restructure Gannon's contract for less than the $7 million he's due, the Daily News reports they're more likely to release him.
This would open up the starting position for Collins, who has a stronger arm than Gannon, is younger than Gannon, and is a better fit for the historical profile of an Al Davis quarterback than Gannon.
While Gannon picks away with short passes, Davis has long advocated the vertical passing game that Collins is much more suited for.
Collins, who was released by the Giants when he declined to serve as a backup to No. 1 draft pick Eli Manning, had been thought to be too pricy for the Raiders. It had at first appeared likely he would to go to the Packers, but Collins then skipped a meeting with Green Bay and seemed headed to the Ravens as a backup.

Why the "F" did you respond to my post then?
I was simply reminding all of the cats at the Hype who back in April were freaking out that their team was losing or going crazy because their team was winning that baseball records don't mean jack until the end of May (if I remember you were one of the people going off about a win being a win no matter what time of the year).
If you didn't want to drag the sorry BoSox into this conservation, you should have left my post well enough alone as I was spot on with my observation about people over-reacting about baseball standings in April.
BTW, I am far too knowledgable about football and the Miami Dolphins to ever speak Superbowl in September and October when as they always start the season strong.

Are you a god damn idiot? Obviously the Boston wins against New York matters... if it comes down to a tie in the division or anything like that the Red Sox are now up what 6-1 in the series so a tie breaker as of now would go to the Red Sox. Then theres the factor of being confident playing the Yankees... if you beat them six times during the year and only lost once don't you think you would feel good about playing them again? I would, so now they have confidence in themselves playing against the Yankees and dealing with the hype of it. So yes it does matter, everything matters.

To be honest, the Yankees and the Sox have been way underahieving. The Sox have been playing like 500 baseball the past month and a half or so (I know there have been BIG injuries, but they shouldnt cost you so many wins), and the Yankees, yea they got the best record, but with that team they should have about 10 games on the Sox this year.
Glad to see someone bumped this thread up, it was on the brink of death;)

It is almost the one year aniversary for my thread here, my pride and joy of Hypedom, maybe the only thing I ever did that was worth much on this place.
And why not discuss about the all-star picks, or more specifcally your all-star picks, just like this thread started off as.

Well... it is finally the demise of the Lakers, Jakcson is gone and Shaq wants a trade and Kboe opts out... wow what a day for LA, that sucks for them.

Jackson out as Lakers coach, Kobe opts out, O'Neal seeks trade
June 19, 2004
LOS ANGELES (Ticker) - The demise of the Los Angeles Lakers, hastened by the Detroit Pistons, gained shocking momentum Friday with the departure of coach Phil Jackson, a trade demand by Shaquille O'Neal and the free agency declaration of Kobe Bryant.
Jackson officially ended his five-year tenure in Los Angeles following an afternoon meeting with owner Jerry Buss.
"The experience of the past five years has been great," Jackson said in a statement released by the team. "Three (championship) rings and a fourth opportunity makes this a bittersweet ending, but it's time to pause and reflect."
Jackson was offered another position with the organization but is not expected to stay on with the team he guided to three straight NBA titles from 2000-02.
Buss called Jackson the best coach in NBA history, adding, "Not only did he help lead us to three more championships, but he helped the Lakers regain our status as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, franchises in all of sports."
O'Neal has two years and more than $58 million left on his contract but told the Los Angeles Times he wants to follow Jackson out of town.
"The direction they're going in, if they're going to continue to go in the same direction, I don't want to be a part of this," O'Neal told the newspaper. "This team, it ain't about me, it ain't about Phil. It's supposed to be about team.
"When I was brought here by Jerry West, there was a team concept. ... It was something I wanted to be a part of. Now no one cares. I told you I'm all about winning championships. Now the organization is different. It seems right now they're trying to pit one person against another."
General manager Mitch Kupchak said Thursday he will try to satisfy O'Neal's demand but ruled out a sign-and-trade deal involving Bryant before the 25-year-old opted to become an unrestricted free agent.
"I want you guys to write that if any GM out there wants a hard-working big man who wants to win championships, call Mitch Kupchak because he'll entertain offers," O'Neal told the Los Angeles Times.
Jackson, 58, has won nine championships as a coach, tying him with Red Auerbach for the NBA record. His .725 winning percentage (832-316) is tops in league history.
But Jackson's last game with the Lakers was Tuesday's 100-87 loss to the Pistons, who completed a startling five-game triumph in the NBA Finals against a team with a roster boasting four sure-fire Hall of Famers.

And I am also gonna make my picks for the end of the year, I know this sounds biased, but before the year started I was telling everyone Manny will win the MVP, and despite being behind Ortiz in that category as of now, i stand by my inital pick.I also think that since there will be no DL for Schil, he'll pull ou the Cy Young. Not cuz they are from Boston, but just lookit the facts.
Anyone else LOVE interleague play? I definately do, it is great. Pedro strking out Bonds on the 3-2 pitch was great.

Uhhh Carlos Guillen is doing MUCh better than Tejada with a BREAKOUT year with Detroit and then theres SO many better players than Carl Crawford to pick... I mean Carlos Beltran is doing much better and is a center fielder to go along with Guerrero and Ramirez.

Up to this point in the season, I'll admit Beltran is a better player, but with the offensive talent on the team, I would take the Crawford whose speed could be extremely useful to Torre. And it isnt exactly a big margain this year between Cawford and Beltran.
Crawford has 10 more hits, over 20 points on BA, over 2 times on SBs, and pretty much the same runs. If Crawford wasnt hitten leadoff/number 2 and hitting number 3 or 4 like Beltran, his BI would be greatly improved.

Didn't he win like 6 gold gloves with Seattle? If he stays healthy for the rest of his career he should make it as a centre fielder.

Being a position player does increase the likelihood of injuries but I think DHing him right now would be a waste. He still has talent and value as a fielder.

Yeah, he suprisingly hasn't had any big injury problems though... he would probably end up going to the Yankees or something if he did switch because you know Boston is too racist for him, he has never talked to Mo Vaughn, David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, Johnny Damon, or even Nomar Garciaparra before obviously... all different ethnicities. I would never want Bonds on my favorite team just because of the jackass type things he says.

Playing fantasy baseball doesn't take much time just to let you know, takes about two minutes to set your lineup for a week in advance... I think you could spare the two minutes.

If they do a NFL football one in August, I will certainly sign up (honestly, I had no idea that there was a baseball one or a may have entertained the idea)

Yes, I know it is a old phrase, that is why indeed I put it in the quote you jackass... Slipknot used that in one song that was well used. I liked the phrase and always did like it and thats why it is in the quote.

I am not feeling the love guys.
Reggiebar, I head up the fantasy league, too bad you didnt join.
I think Malice might head up the football one this year again.
I hate when you guys say us Bostonians say 'this is the year' every year, cuz we don't.I don't know why you guys say that, but we have learned, and are extremely skeptical, with little optimism. The you guys always bring up the past, cuz you know, it really has nothing to do with the present, but whatever.
Just a idea for this thread, why not post your all-time teams for your favortie teams, whetehr it be NBA, MLB, NFL, or NHL.That could bring up some good discussion, instead of just Slipkont and Reggiebar flirting for 2 pages;)

Star center fielder Carlos Beltran was traded from Kansas City to the Houston Astros on Thursday night as part of a three-way deal that also sent closer Octavio Dotel to Oakland.

2004 SEASON STATISTICS

The Royals wound up with three prospects: highly touted third baseman Mark Teahen and right-hander Mike Wood from Oakland, and catcher John Buck from the Astros.
"This is obviously huge for our organization," Astros general manager Gerry Hunsicker said. "Carlos Beltran is one of the most exciting, complete players in our game today.
"He's the prototype we've been looking for for a long time. He's going to be a very exciting force for us in the middle of our lineup," he said.
The A's also got cash from Kansas City, an amount under $1 million.
The trade is Houston's second in as many Thursdays. The Astros last week sent outfielder Richard Hidalgo to the Mets for relief pitcher David Weathers.
The 27-year-old Beltran, the biggest prize on the trade market, can become a free agent after the season. He is represented by Scott Boras, who usually does not have his players re-sign before testing the free-agent market.
The multitalented Beltran is hitting .278 with 15 homers, 51 RBI and 14 steals. He would succeed Craig Biggio as the Astros' center fielder, with Biggio likely moving to left.
Dotel, 30, is 0-4 with a 3.12 ERA and 14 saves in 17 chances in his first year as a closer following the trade of Billy Wagner to Philadelphia in the offseason. He takes over as the closer in an Oakland bullpen that has more blown saves (14) than saves (13).
WOW!
Out of the blue.

I really don't care, but saying I'm getting my ass kicked with my team composed of players I didn't pick, is retarded. I don't rearrange my schedule for fantasy baseball either. I did have a party that night actually, and I wouldn't have missed it to draft a fantasy baseball team

My Rangers are in first place!! It probably won't last all year, but they are a great story. They play hard every night and they are exciting to watch. I'm going to see them take on the Astros tonight(if it doesn't rain) and their new outfielder Carlos Beltran. I guess that's why Houston traded Hidalgo, because they wanted to make a run at Beltran. Should be a great series.

Obviously, that ERA was when his family was still in Cuba...

I hope he comes to boston in a way but then again he is so damn old that we would probably have to give up someone very good to get him... but I cannot imagine us having Martinez, Schilling, R. Johnson, Lowe and Wakefield in the same pitching rotation... it would be amazing.

My other Sox fan friend is a naive one sadly:(.Says the Yankees are overrated in their lineup. Will someone agree with me, that the Yanks lineup is way not overrated and is in fact pretty dominating.

It's not that I like the Yankees as a team, I just realize, we lose, they win. I have lived through too many Sox falls, despite being just 15. Last year was a backbreaker.I am still one of the Fenway Faithful, and a Champ is still possible, but hard to reach, but let's go Sox. And Yankees still suck immensely.
