I have been doing alot of sports topics recently, and have seen alot here, and this one is on me giving a topic every few times a day and us discussing it, of course sports related. These are mainly NBA/NFL/MLB/NHL, and also some others every now and then.

He isn't having a All-star year, this is a half season award, not a lifetime achievement thing. Zito threw 106 pitches yesterdsay I think so they repalced him, but he never even knew!!!His management said no way.

How does anybody think LeBron James is gonna do next year? I think he'll average about 15-18 points, maybe 5 or 6 boards, and 4 assists a game.

Stating your American before talking about soccer makes me realize whatever you're going to say is total crap. Americans in general have a low opinion of soccer. It's your choice not to like it, but you can't deny it takes skill. A bunch of chickens couldn't kick a ball 97 MPH or throw it 40 yards or anything of the sort. Take a soccer ball outside and try some of the professional moves. I'm sure you're capable of something a bunch of chickens could do with a mini ball.

I am still in shock that Jeter OR Clemens dont get to play (or the start) at the All-Star Game.
Also, does anyone else think its ridiculous that the winner of the AllStar Game gets home field advantage in the World Series?
the AllStar game is for the fans; not another form of the playoffs... Also, it takes place in the BREAK of the season... players dont wanna play hard as they can in a game thats supposed to be for fun.

Clemen's IS playing, but Jeter???C'mon man, he missed a huge chunk of the season, and he numbers pale in comparison to A-Rod and Nomah.
Also, world series advantage is bad. How do bad guys get a chance to play when the superstars of the team are playing for all-star advantage. It already counted before these stupid commercials. Ted Willaims hit one hios best homers in it.

Clemens is leading the AL in strikeouts and is among the leaders for starting pitching in both ERA and walks - He IS having an All-Star year but he hasn't had the run support this year to have a better record.
BTW, did Michael Jordon have an All-Star year in the NBA last year? NO! However, when you have a career like a Jordon in basketball or a Clemens in baseball, you make the All-Star team at the end of your career with the stats that they put up (Clemens is actually having afar better year for a pitcher than Jordon had for a basketball player).

First off: Soccer is a legitimate sport. I took a class over it this past semester, and you wouldn't believe how hard it is to dribble a soccer ball and run at the same time.
Second: What does everyone think about Maurice Clarett from Ohio State getting the professor to give him an oral exam instead of a regular test like everyone else in the class had to take?

I can understand why Maurice Clarret might need a tutor because Division 1 football takes up an incredible amount of time. But his professor said that he was [i]completely[i] unprepared. Why is Iowa Hawkeye football coach Kirk Ferentz starting the slow-footed senior Nate Chandler at quarterback when he could try and cultivate a freshman who has more talent for 4 years? Furthermore, he just had the runner-up in Heisman voting as QB last year, who feasted on QB draws. Nate Chandler can't run a QB draw because his offensive line has quicker feet than he does!!!
Oh man that takes a load off. Whew.
Now I just wish there were any college football fans who I could discuss this and other pressing issues with.

Check Iowa's graduation rate. Way better, and Iowa was CLEARLY the best team in the Big 10 last year. Damn scheduling loophole allowed Ohio State to somehow be #1. I mean, OSU almost lost to Cincinnati pre-season! They were taken to double-OT by Illinois! ILLINOIS!

JUST IN!!!!!!!!!!!
NEW YORK -- During Monday's All-Star media day in Chicago, Armando Benitez talked about what it would be like for him to change New York uniforms should he get traded from the Mets to the Yankees.
"At least I'd be able to stay in New York," Benitez said. "I wouldn't have to move out of my house."
Wednesday, the move -- or non-move -- became a reality, as the Yankees acquired the All-Star reliever from the Mets in exchange for right-hander Jason Anderson and a pair of minor-league pitchers. Conference calls are scheduled for later this evening.
Benitez will be used as a right-handed setup man with the Yankees, joining Antonio Osuna and southpaw Chris Hammond as the team's bridge between the starting pitchers and closer Mariano Rivera.
"No matter where I go, I'll do the job they want me to do," Benitez said on Monday. "It won't be a problem for me. Every team knows what I can do, to be a closer, so I won't be upset if I'm a setup man on some team. I'll just do my job."
Benitez, who did not pitch in Tuesday's All-Star Game, has pitched in a setup role before, doing so for the first four years of his big-league career in Baltimore. When he joined the Mets in 1999, he was John Franco's setup man until he assumed the closer's job during the season.
"I've been setup man for a lot of good closers -- Randy Myers, Lee Smith, John Franco, Doug Jones," Benitez said. "I won't be upset as long as we win. If I can help the team, that's all I want. Rivera and me would be a good combo, we'd give the team a chance to win."
Benitez is 3-3 with 21 saves and a 3.10 ERA this season in 45 games for the Mets. But the big right-hander has also blown seven saves, tying him for the most in the Majors this season. One of those blown saves came against the Yankees on June 22, when he walked four batters in the ninth inning, tying the game. The Yankees went on to win, 7-3, in front of a national television audience.
"With the addition of Armando, we addressed the need for a proven power arm at the back end of the bullpen," said general manager Brian Cashman. "We are excited to add Armando because we believe he will help solidify the bridge between our starters and Mariano Rivera."
Entering the season, Benitez had converted 117 of his 129 save opportuni ties over the past three seasons, a 90.7 percent success rate -- the best in baseball. His 160 saves for the Mets are second on the club's all-time list, and he became the first Met to notch 30 saves in three consecutive seasons.
But Benitez blew some big saves for the Mets, most notably Game 1 of the 2000 World Series against the Yankees. The Mets went on to lose the Subway Series in five games, with Benitez's blown save serving as the turning point. Benitez believes that Mets fans will realize what he contributed to the team once he's gone.
"Maybe someday they'll recognize what I did there," he said on Monday.
The Yankees have struggled to find consistency in the bullpen this season, using 11 different relief pitchers. Steve Karsay's season-ending shoulder surgery left a gaping hole in the bullpen, and Osuna's two stints on the disabled list had the Yankees scrambling to find a right-handed setup man.
On June 25, the Yankees traded for Cleveland right-hander Dan Miceli, hoping he would fill the setup role until Osuna returned. But Miceli has a 5.40 ERA in six appearances with the Yankees, throwing just 3 1/3 innings.
Anderson, 24, has appeared in 22 games for the Yankees, going 1-0 with a 4.79 ERA. Anderson was penciled in as the closer for Triple-A Columbus this season before making the Yankees out of Spring Training.
In addition to Anderson, the Yankees sent right-handers Anderson Garcia and Ryan Bicondoa to the Mets. Bicondoa, a cousin of late Cardinals pitcher Darryl Kile, was 3-2 with a 3.54 ERA in 15 games (five starts) for the Tampa Yankees of the Single-A Florida State League. Garcia is 3-6 with a 3.32 ERA in 16 games for Battle Creek of the Single-A Midwest League.
The deal is the 12th between the two clubs and the first since the Mets swapped Robin Ventura for David Justice on Dec. 7, 2001.

Because the other team thought they had it won they even threw the Gatorade on the coach and with no time left LSU won, that's why. :)
And I saw an interview with Dennis Rodman last night and he said tha more than likely he will return to the NBA this season. I personally think he'll be a great fit with the Pacers, he'll probably be Ron Artest's new best friend. ;) But seriousely it makes sense him going to indiana especially if they don't re-sigh Brad Miller and he used to play in Detroit with Isaih Thomas. :D

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Jack Cust provided an appropriate ending to an extraordinary game.
The Baltimore Orioles' rookie had already fallen once rounding third base, and was in the midst of a rundown when he suddenly realized there was no one covering the plate.
All Cust had to do was outrun New York third baseman Aaron Boone the final 10 feet to create a 12th-inning tie. But Cust tripped again and was tagged for the final out in the Yankees' 5-4 victory Saturday night.
"He had a free trip to home, and he tripped and fell," Orioles manager Mike Hargrove said. "Those things happen."
Not very often, though.
"It was bizarre, certainly," Boone said.
"We lucked out," Yankees manager Joe Torre said. "I don't even want to see a replay. I'd just as soon go home, go to sleep and wake up tomorrow."
Jason Giambi hit his 35th homer with two outs in the top of the 12th as the Yankees dealt Baltimore its sixth straight loss.
Jeff Nelson walked Cust with two outs in the 12th before Larry Bigbie doubled to right-center. Cust tried to stop as he rounded third, but slipped to the ground.
"I tried to plant, but my feet just gave out," Cust said. "It's the grass. It's just soft."
Second baseman Alfonso Soriano made a low relay throw to third, and Cust was caught in a rundown. As he saw the clear path to the plate and tried to get into high gear, he stumbled facefirst to the ground and was easily tagged out.
and Jeter got his 1500 hit already....damn that was pretty quick.....

1. Philadelphia over Tennessee ;)
2. St. Louis over Denver
3. Buffalo over Green Bay
Too hard to narrow down to one.
So, how does Vick's injury hurt the Falcon's playoff chances?
Quite obviously. They're playing in too hard a division(arguably the toughest in football) to have to rely on Warrick Dunn, Peerless Price and some roleplayers to get them into the playoffs. Their big off-season acquisition was Peerless Price, and now the guy throwing to him is a back-up with 5 career touchdowns. Some players have a tendency to heal quickly from these types injuries, so maybe Vick will miss even less than 6 weeks. This is just another reason that the NFL is gonna wanna look closer to limiting the number of pre-season games...
Also, whut team (not based on just whut teams u like/dislike) is gonna not make it to the playoffs as part of the big 4, in the MLB....
"Big 4?" I'm not sure what you mean. If you're going by top-4 salaries, that'd make the list the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers and Cubs. Obviously I'd choose the Dodgers and Mets not to make it. If you're going by win/loss record, that'd be the Yankees, Mariners, Giants and Braves. Out of those I'd say Yankees and Mariners, since Oakland and Boston are hot on their trails.
Braves and Yankees for sure. And the Marlins are going to win the wild card.

Out of those four I'd say the Sox. I'd narrow it down to the A's or the Sox, but I picked the A's to go to the World Series before the season started, so I'm biased. :p
And saying 6 weeks... I'd assume they mean six weeks from now. There's 2 weeks of pre-season left, so they could have Vick possibly back as soon as week 3 or 4. Some people are speculating that his injury may sit him down for up to 10 weeks, though.

The only way the Sox are NOT making it are if they lose 10 or their next 18 games, which are against Seattle (today), then Oakland and Seattle and Toronto and New York and Phillie(one makeup game) and White Sox and New York.Seatle today is a pretty sure win, and Chicago cant contend against our hitting except Toroto cant take our bats, I think Sox will win and A's or M's will be left out by arounf 3 games. The only reason i say this is becasue afetyr that strecth for the Sox, they have all unbelivavbly easy teams....

They've revamped their defense to the point that it has potential to be one of the best in the AFC. London Fletcher and Takeo Spikes are two of the most dangerous linebackers in the AFC, Antoine Winfield puts up consistently good numbers, etc. As for offense, Drew Bledsoe, albeit over-payed, is one of the most stellar QB's in the league; they have one(potentially two if McGahee decides to play from a financial/health standpoint) great runner in the backfield; and even in losing Peerless Price, they still have a great wide-out in Eric Moulds.
Perhaps you're right, I don't blame those who are skeptical. But I'm chalking up the Bills as my real "dark horse" this season.

Holcomb named Browns' starting QB over Tim Couch...
Heated N.L. Central race continues as Mark Prior's seven scoreless inning-performance leads the Cubs to a 6-0 victory over the league leading Houston Astros. All the while the Cardinals get shell shocked, 14-0 against the Pirates. Houston still leads the division, with the Cubs a half game out, and the Cards a full game out.
Just as tight a race going on in the A.L. Central as the White Sox and Royals share the division lead with Minnesota only a half game out.

Good call. Va Tech's got the schedule to do it. I picked Auburn from the heart, but they got a murderous schedule, and would more than likely have to play Georgia or Tennessee again (twice) in the SEC Championship.
Oklahoma vs Va Tech probably more realistic

LOL, that's true. THey lose one little National Title game (with a questionable pass interference call ;)) and everyone is quick to forget 'em.
THey are breaking in a new QB and play Va Tech at Blacksburg I think. The winner of that game has a good shot at the BCS title game, if not the inside track.

Nice 8th inning implosion, Cubs. **** ****ing pisses me off. Wood pitches 7 flawless inning, around 115 pitches, Baker sits him. Guthrie, Farnsworth, Alfonseca, Remlinger—all get shallacked, Cubs lose 4-2. Now they're gonna be a game and a half back in the N.L. Central. ****ing aggrivating. Not only that, but my other team(The Phillies), lose again in a high-scoring game to the ****ing Montreal Expos. I'm going to go slit my wrist with pizza cutter.

Because the Pirates are not interested in winning games. As long as they make money at the end of the year they're happy. If you ask me what the single biggest problem in baseball, it's these small market teams who refuse to compete. It's been proven that you can win in a small market if you scout well and you try to win. It has to be depressing as a fan to know that your team will never contend for a title because they keep trading away the good players that they develop.

why u may ask? Oklahoma was num 1 last year also preseason, and they failed. Both their quarterbacks are average. Do they still have that running back, or was he in the draft? THye need more offensive playmakers to get to the championship. Although their defense is very good.

One word concerning Oklahoma... DEFENSE,
Teams can win with an average QB and conservative offense if they have a smothering defense, (see Ohio State) barring injuries and a good turnover ratio.
Course this could be the year they finally beat OK State, but
lose to Texas.

That is the biggest load of bullcrap I have ever read.
Let me debunk this all too widespread myth about Baseball
1. Because the Pirates are not interested in winning games. As long as they make money at the end of the year they're happy. The pirates lost 30 million over the last three years.
2.If you ask me what the single biggest problem in baseball, it's these small market teams who refuse to compete.
This is the single biggest lie in sports. Baseball's rules are set up to favor the "have" teams. Baseball has laws that all but ensure you have to have money to keep stars. You cannot give contracts you don't have the money to back up, and you can't market to build fan base without stars.
3 It's been proven that you can win in a small market if you scout well and you try to win.
Really, then how come the yankees and braves are top teams every year while teams like the angels or a's can only win once or twice a decade.
Here is the trick, having a load of cash to throw at players isn't a sure fire way to get a winner, but it does guarentee one thing, when you find the good players, you can keep them. The Pirates couldn't afford to keep the Giles, Bonds, or any of the other dozens of players who were either left go or traded away.
PS....If you did not know, a baseball team is forbidden to be in debt 60% of its net worth, meaning a small market team CANNOT spend a fortune to keep it's FA or attract others

Well them explain to me how these so-called small-market teams like the Reds and the Pirates hijack the fans by telling them the only way they can compete is to get a new stadium. Then after they get their new stadium and their teams still suck they tell their fans that they can't afford to keep their stars and they trade them all away.
Oakland has been in the playoffs each of the last three years and are on their way again this year. Oakland has a great scouting and develop talent well. Cleveland was considered small market until they built their new stadium. Then they were able to spend more money and make their team better. eattle doesn't spend a whole lot of money but they are in contention every year. The Braves and Yanks do throw a lot of money around, but they are also very smart with how they spend it. Here in Texas, we had a team with a 100 million dollar payroll and we're stuck in last place.
Reds and Pirates get brand new state of the art stadiums and they still lose all that money. Maybe those owners should think about the way they do business.

I agree that K-State will give Oklahoma problems because of Ell Roberson. OU is vulnerable to qb's who can move in and out of the pocket. (see Texas A&M and Okla St. games from last year)

Ah, that's nothing new. No one ever gives the Pats the credit they deserve, even after they won the superbowl. I expect them to win 9-12 games and the AFC East...although Lawyer Milloy leaving has me a bit worried...:(

Well we are at a new stage in the AFC East where nothing short of 12 games will get you a divison title.I agree with Milloy obviously. He wasn't THE best, but in the top 3 of NFL strong safties.Harrison is able to take his place should he be in tip-top health, where he can be dominating. However, there are 2 safety spots, not just one.I suggest they put in Harris, only because he was involved in the play in Pittsburgh in the AFC title game with the blocked FG and touchdown return:DIf Fielder isn't healthy, I give the Bills the edge over the Dolphins.Maybe the ONLY reason i give the Pats over the Bills is because Bledsoe can't do crap against us.

Amen! Hopefully he'll keep up the pace he did at the begining of last season.

I dunno. Just a gut feeling. If Pennington was playing there would be no doubt. i'm just not sold on Spurrier at the NFL level.

What? Griese doesn't start? Ricky r0x0rZ. I must admit though: without injury Priest Holmes could have and probably would've beat him. I think Fins will make the playoffs without the wildcard. Buffalo is good, but can they face Fiedler and our D when healthy? Doubtful. The Pats could pose a problem, but I guess we'll see :)
