her degree is in film studies ... not being in them. It still does not mean that she can act. And the fact that she is a college graduate ... um... still doesnt make her a good actress.

No, it doesn't and no, it isn't, but the fact that she does have a college degree tells me and many others that she has proven that she can learn a lot in a very short time. A bachelor's degree in Film Studies particularly indicates to me that, although she has no true acting experience, she does have the skills to understand what the writer, the director, and the producer wants (that's what Film Studies majors usually become after school) in a motion picture -- and the fact that she is a model means to me that she is not afraid to be in front of a camera.
Although he never went to college, Will Smith was a very bright kid in high school. He turned down an admission to M.I.T. to pursue a career in music and later on films and look how that worked out for him. Given that and the fact that models have been in films before would lead me to think that it would be worth taking a chance and asking someone like her to read a few lines from the script to see if it worth pursuing casting her. You will never know if she can truly act unless you try her out.
The casting process is over.

Sutton Foster (pic from the 2005 Tony Awards)
Won 2002 Best Actress Tony Award for Thoroughly Modern Millie
Fantastic actress (saw her in Les Miserables a few years ago and she stole the show despite being a supporting role)
Incredible presence... she has "it" and can stand out
At least 5'10" (my friend who met her thought she was even taller)
Long limbed with some curves
Good strong frame with potential to fill out (she reminds me a lot of Jennifer Garner before Alias)
Lots of dance experience so I bet she'd pick up fight choregraphy quite quick
Amazing alto voiceThe negative is she just turned 31 a couple weeks ago, but I think you'll agree she looks a lot younger than her age (the pic above is from last year at the Tony's). And she naturally has brown eyes. The pic above is photoshopped to give Ms. Foster the equivalent of blue contacts.
Here's a sample of her Broadway work from last year in Little Women.

Beckinsale Joins 'Wonder Woman' Race
Kate Beckinsale has reportedly joined the race to play Wonder Woman in Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon's upcoming comic book movie. The British actress is in negotiations with Whedon, according to movie gossip website joblo.com. Insiders claim Whedon is "very happy" with Beckinsale and confirmed last week that production on his highly anticipated movie adaptation of the popular comic book series will begin filming in early September. Buffy stars Sarah Michelle Gellar and Charisma Carpenter, and teen queen Lindsay Lohan have been linked to the coveted role - which was played on TV by Lynda Carter. Former hot favorite Carpenter even remarked she was putting off having a second baby in the hope of landing the dream role. She recently told a reporter, "I'd like to (have another baby) eventually, but I want Wonder Woman right now. I'm not holding my breath, but I'm crossing my fingers and toes and praying."

CConn

Pretty reliable. However for their April Fool's Day joke they ran an article saying Beckinsale had been cast. That could be what IMDB picked up and modified. Although the quote by Beckinsale is definitely true.
In other news...

Don't get me wrong here, other than my own site, the IMDB is probably the site I visit the most on the Web (other than my myriad of porn bookmarks, of course), but when a site as big and respected as they are *****s up so badly...we just need to report it!! As most of you already know, over this past weekend, on April 1st specifically, JoBlo.com "reported" that Kate Beckinsale had been cast as Wonder Woman. Anyone with half a brain who read past the article's first 2-3 paragraphs would have noted that it was an April Fool's joke, particularly in the story's last paragraph in which...we basically tell you that it's an April Fool's joke! Cut to the IMDB's "news stories" today, and here's what they wrote up:
There are many things wrong with their piece, but allow me to focus on the main three below.
1) JoBlo.com is not, has never been and will never be...a "gossip site". We've been a "movie news" site for about 8 years now and anyone who knows anything about movies on the Net should know that by now. 98% of our stories are based in fact, and we make sure to separate the "rumored" stories as such.
2) Even if these people read our article completely -- which they obviously didn't -- where in our piece do we say that Kate Beckinsale "has joined the race to play Wonder Woman"? The article is titled "Wonder Woman cast!" To me that says...well, she IS Wonder Woman....she isn't "being considered" at all. So on top of NOT recognizing the April Foolishness of the article, they even get the basic idea behind it wrong.
3) Finally, I just want to point out some of the stuff mentioned in our article that apparently wasn't read or reported on by the IMDB article. The part about Whedon hoping to "bang" Beckinsale. The part about Whedon admitting that many other actresses wanted to "blow him" for the part. The part about Whedon admitting that Jessica Simpson had the "tits for the part", but was as "dumb as they come". The part about Whedon asking Beckinsale to get a breast job for the part and Beckinsale's publicist...seeming okay with that! I could go on, folks.
Oh, and on a technical note, anybody on the Internet knows that it's only common courtesy to LINK to another site when you mention them in your write-up. In this case, JoBlo.com is NOT linked in the IMDB story, hence the readers aren't able to check our site immediately, in order to confirm (or in this case, deny) the story. BTW, I'm not really pissed at the IMDB about this, in fact, I dig the free publicity, but I do think it's pretty shoddy reporting. I also realize that they have a 3rd party generating their news for them...but still! It's on your site, you should double-check that ****! Oh, and in case people are STILL in the dark about this...
IT WAS AN APRIL FOOL'S JOKE!!!!!!!!!!! DUUUUUHHH!!

I have no problems with Kate Beckinsale being Wonder Woman. If they go the younger route, I'd prefer to see Morena Baccarin or Taylor Cole, but a dream choice for me would in all likelikehood be Kate Beckinsale or St. Angelina who is a Wonder Woman off-screen.
Kate Beckinsale is cool and is on my personal Top 10 list along with Angelina for that matter. I've no problem with Rebecca Romijn for the role either, and think she'd do a great job. That said, she might not be an option due to such a close affinity with Mystique.
If this is an origins story, Taylor Cole is the way to go. Perfect age that lines up well with Routh and Bale too (just incase ;))

Christian Bale is 32, Routh is 27, and Cole is 22. How does that line up?
Because Batman is always the oldest (based on the comics). Supes is slightly younger. WW (at first appearance) should look the youngest (obviously younger than Superman).
22 is the perfect age because theres alot of longevity there for future films. TC tends to look slightly older than her age anyways.

I think that Crisis Superman is talking about physical apperance. Batman is always portrayed as someone in his late 30's and Superman someone who is about 25-32. It has been argued that although over 2000 years old, Wonder Woman looks 25'ish but acts like someone in their mid 30's.

That's a good point.
I wouldn't be upset if she got the role. I still think in terms of Whedon history and relative unknown status Morena Baccarin has the best shot. That said, Alexa Davalos could definitely be seen as a low-key contender, has the physicality, and is of the right age. She also has incredible eyes like Wonder Woman, and most notably the animated version.
If someone were to find out she had received the role, I wouldn't be upset.

WTF? 2000 years old? Whered you get that from? Precrisis or Postcrisis? I thought Hippolyta created her from clay only a few decades ago but she was the reincarnation of a woman who died 30 000 years ago.
In the precrisis Earth II, Wonder Woman seemed to have aged in a mortal way, meaning she was probably in her 60s during the 1986 crisis.
That's a good point.

Hmm she actually isnt bad compared to alot of the suggestions Ive seen. She has a WW-like look. The only drawback is she doesnt resemble Lynda Carter's WW at all.... but I guess she looks more like the modern postcrisis version.
I guess she'd be a choice I could live with. Her age is perfect too. I still prefer Taylor Cole though, since she seems to be a candidate all the younger teen fans would push for too.
If Lynda Carter played Hippolyta, and Taylor played Diana, that would actually look about right.
My god Bekinsale is beautiful. How old is she? You make it sound like she's 50.
Shes not Wonder Woman-like, not beautiful in that way. But yes, I think shes out of the ideal age range for casting this character.

Yea, it was an April Fools joke. This was posted over at TVGuide.com
KEEP WONDER-ING: A prank posting on the JoBlo.com movie site spread like wildfire over the April Fools' weekend, leading many to pass along the "news" that Underworld 's Kate Beckinsale had landed the lead in Joss Whedon's Wonder Woman film. In actuality, Variety confirms, no one has yet been handed the golden lasso. So keep your chin up, Charisma
That last line is a joke.... of course no one would seriously consider Charisma.

“Wonder Woman” rumours are about as regular as trips to the petrol station these days, so take this one with a grain of the salty stuff (perhaps not that salty stuff). Still, I’m mentioning this if only because I think they may have found someone that would look as cosy as heck in the Invisible Jet.
This morning, I received a press release from the PR firm for "Days of Our Lives" actress Nadia Bjorlin, confirming her involvement in the new auto-thriller “Red Line” co-starring Eddie Griffin and Nathan Phillips.
‘Apparently’ she is up for “Wonder Woman”.
Though I have heard her name bantered about for Joss Whedon’s upcoming “Wonder Woman” movie before – largely in forums, and from her fans – I haven’t seen anything resembling a semi-concrete confirmation that the girl is even interested, least of all whether she’s even going to get to test…Until this bit in press release:
Bjorlin is also one of the actresses being considered for the role of Wonder Woman.
Now ‘considered’ could mean anything. She could be audition with 500 other girls for the role. But I gotta say, I like her look. She mightn’t be very Amazonian, but she does have that action heroine kinda of thing going on…. and best of all, she’s essentially an unknown. That’s apparently what they’re aiming for with the film – a fresh face, a newbie along the lines of the new Superlad, Brandon Routh. Yeah….maybe she is worth considering. I just watched an episode of Supernatural and saw an actress named Talyor Cole. She's 5'8" and a former high school athlete. Check her out a imdb.com
Taylor's name has been around these forums for a while. First in the X-Men forum when she was mentioned as part of the false rumour that she was Scarlet Witch in X3; and then Wizard Magazine had her as one of the suggested candidates that fit Whedon's criteria as Wonder Woman. :)

I have. A woman from India as WW? Hm, I don't know. She IS definately hot, but she's not WW to me...
Being a Greek, I have to ask: Would you like a complete unknown greek actress, with the looks and decent acting skills, to take the part? I mean, go authentic as much as possible? I might do a bit research and give you some candidates...
phoenixflight
04-14-2006, 11:53 PM
I would also love for them (Joss and company) to pick someone as authentic as possible. A greek actress would be great. Although not my top pick, here is a greek actress worth mentioning:
Maria Menounos.

Hm, Maria Menounos looks hot, but her acting abilities and how she will sell as WW is questionable... I have some more suggestions.
Bridget Moynahan for example is beautiful, a good actress and looks Mediterrean.

Rhona Mitra is not the best actress there is, but take a look at the pic

Now, those are no actresses but take a look at them, because they are greek. It's a shame that I couldn't find any actresses that may resemble Diana a bit. Oh, well, just to have an idea...

I think it's really important to cast a really good actress (has shown her abilities on screen), a young relatively unknown woman (we want her to sign on for several sequels), who is statuesque (5'8" to 5'11" - any taller would be scary!) and of course beautiful (genuine beauty, not make-up beauty).
With that said, although it's in good fun, casting women under 5'7" or who have only modeled and never acted will never happen.
My vote is still for Morena Baccarin or Taylor Cole.

Morena looks TOO young, or better, too "girlie". Even after some years, I believe she'll have that baby face.
Taylor Cole on the pther hand, well, she looks likea fine woman...
Is it my idea, or they try to rejuvenate all franchises? Star Wars Episodes II & III had teen main characters (I always thought Anakin and Padme shoud be a bit older).
Batman Begins, well, it had to have a younger actor, in his early 30's, because, well, it says "Begins".
Superman Returns has Brandon Routh, who may have a great voice (he speaks with amazing calmness) but he looks younger than he really is. Kate Bosworth looks also very young.
Let's not forget the Ultimate series of Marvel (I read F4 and I was suprised to find them looking like teens. Reed Richards? A teen?). Many characters in DC comics are introduced again as teens (new Firestorm, new Blue Beetle)
Now, they want to start a Wonder Woman franchise, fine. But do they really have to cast a mid-20's woman? I mean look at her...
http://www.bigtimecomics.com/images/Trade%20Paper%20Backs/DC/Wonder%20Woman%20Down%20To%20Earth%20TP%20-%20Large.jpg
She appears to me like an early 30's woman, only without signs of physical aging. She looks young, but she is not a teen.

Ironically, Morena Baccarin may get the role for the very reasons you mentioned. I have no problem with that. She wants the role, and enjoys working with the director. That sounds like a solid match, and she will likely trim the baby-esque elements from her face. If you see some of her more recent photos, she has. I firmly believe Morena Baccarin will do us all proud if she receives the role of Wonder Woman. I am proud of her already.
Taylor Cole. Hey, if she gets the role, you won't hear me complaining. I hadn't seen much of her until a week ago on Supernatural. While Morena Baccarin is my personal first choice, if Taylor Cole got the role, I would accept it.
Regarding the more youthful element of today's films or stars playing roles that on paper don't jive because of their age; You raise some good points. However, that's not going to change. That's Hollywood, and more of the viewing demographic that goes to these films can connect or identify with a younger star than they can with an older one. That's why a lot of older action stars fall by the wayside as they get older. No one wants to see someone older doing something, when there's someone younger that is the fresh meat of the moment.
I missed her on Supernatural what did you think dpm07, I'm pretty sure I was the first to bring up Taylor Cole on this site. I think she's good and she's my current #1

You know, I watched her, and I have to say that next to Alexis Bledel, she has the most amazing eyes. Her pictures don't do her justice. On-screen it is really conveyed.
She's also a pretty fair actress based on what I saw in the episode of Supernatural. She really had great chemistry with Sam. I actually kept thinking, damn! She should join the cast.
Like I've said, my first choice is Morena for sentimental reasons. However, if Taylor Cole gets it, you won't hear me complaining, and I think she'd do a great job. When I watched that episode, she had aspects about her that did have a Wonder Womanesque element to her. Very athletic. She's listed as 5'8' 1/2 by IMDB. I'd say that she's that tall. She seemed smaller than Jared Padalecki, but he's 6'4.
Again, she's definitely a close second choice for me. Good call there, Lobo!

While she is probably in all likelihood my second option, I could envision seeing Taylor Cole in the role of Wonder Woman. I feel she would bring a sense of regality and civility to role, and she is undoubtedly dignified enough to capture the ambiance of Wonder Woman.
I also feel that Morena Baccarin encapsulates all of these factors as well as evidenced by her portrayal of Inara on the Firefly series and the Serenity film. Morena also has stated that she would like to be considered for the option and has a working relationship with Joss Whedon.
Ultimately, I feel that the chances of the part going to either Morena Baccarin, Taylor Cole, or even Jessica Biel are heightened due to their working relationship with WB. If they lean toward a relative unknown, then Morena Baccarin and Taylor Cole both have a legititmate opportunity to secure the position of Wonder Woman.

While Whedon stated that height wouldn't be a factor, I'm pretty sure that behind the scenes they are going to try and find someone who is probably at least 5'7. Maybe 5'6, but I can't see them going much shorter than that. Megan Fox is pretty. No doubt. However, there are other actresses like Taylor Cole or Morena Baccarin or Alexa Davalos who are just as pretty and have the height factor to their favor. Again, while it may not be the primary factor, more than likely the topic will come up behind the scenes. Of course, he's not going to say they won't be looking at actresses shorter than a certain height, but in all likelihood, the actress that is chosen will probably not be short.

In honor of the Miss USA pageant held on April 21, 2006 (who by the way I don't see as a possible contender for WW), I am re-submitting Miss Universe 2005 back into the mix.
However, let's see who shows up for the Miss Universe contest on Sunday, July 23, 2006. (Reminder: This is all in good fun - looking great is not all - she must know how to act).
Natalie Glebova
Height: 5' 11"
Born: November 11, 1981
Country: Tuapse, Russia, Soviet Union (Miss Canada)
http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/9181/missuniverse20056mw.jpg
Okay, a little overkill on the pageant winners, however what about:
Jennifer Hawkins
Born: December 22, 1983
Country: Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia
Height: 6’
Here's A Question: Does your acting skills rank if you portray yourself in several reality shows? - “Dancing with the Stars”, “Deal or No Deal”, “The Apprentice” and some Australian shows also playing herself.

I just saw Serenity for the first time today. I loved it. But one of my main reasons was to see Morena in it. My vote still stands for her, now even more so.
Did Whedon say he wouldn't cast any female he's ever worked with as WW? I can't remember the exact quote.

My vote is still for Morena Baccarin or Taylor Cole.
http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/3897/ww9et.jpg
I really can't see Baccarin as Wonder Woman...at all.
Facially, I guess that my number one pick would still be Taylor Cole.
http://www.bigtimecomics.com/images/Trade%20Paper%20Backs/DC/Wonder%20Woman%20Down%20To%20Earth%20TP%20-%20Large.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v305/Target-33/Temp/ps_teenstarhairstyles1.jpg
In terms of having a more Wonder Woman like build, Maitland Ward would be my choice.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v305/Target-33/Temp/M20187.jpg
I'd suggest making a "who are your top five candidates for WW" thread but it would probably get merged. :(

I think both actresses would be a very suitable match for the role, and would do the role justice and honor. Personally, I favor Morena Baccarin for Wonder Woman as my number one choice, but Taylor Cole is probably my 1A choice, so it's real close.
I have quietly tried to keep my preference for the role of Wonder Woman a secret, and not be blatant about who I would like, but these two actresses are my first options. My dream option would have been Angelina Jolie or Kate Beckinsale, but with a younger approach Morena and Taylor would be at the top of the list. There are two other options I am considering and both are in their early to mid-twenties, but I will not divulge them at this time.

If you're considering a woman in her late 30s.... Kate Beckinsale is a MUCH BETTER CHOICE than Charisma Carpenter.
Not only is she beautiful, she can act, and of course has proven she can carry a feature film as a female lead.

Well I was born in August of '71, I'm 34 and Charisma is about a year older than me, and Beckinsale is 2 years younger than me, so if that's late 30's, I guess I'll start applying for AARP :p
In anycase, I think Beckinsale would be a great choice.

She did that Sci-Fi channels movie 'Chameleon" and "The Crow: Stairway to Heaven" and in "Murder One".

She has the build for the part, she can act, she knows martial arts, and she's been both a brunette and a blonde.
And she's absolutely beautiful.
(Plus, she could pass for Linda Carter's daughter if LC plays WW's mother.)

That last picture of Liv Tyler makes her look either pregnant or like she's packing on weight for the next Ice Age. And when did her breastsesses get so much bigger? She was always so well proportioned before. Slim without being too skinny or athletic. I can't see her as WW. She doesn't have the look or the attitude of someone who's athletic or in charge of herself. She looks like someone's somewhat meek girlfriend. Worked perfectly for her part in LOTR though.
As to Bobbie Phillips height, I think she's about 5'7". With the WW stilletto boot heels she should even out at about 6'. Could work.
Most of the men acting in Hollywood average about 5'8"-5'10".
And if she has to be in a civillian identity, she wouldn't draw so much attention to herself as a very tall woman would. Although if you look like Bobbie, I think you'd draw attention no matter how you were made up.
(She has the most amazing eyes, don't you think?)
I'm torn between Bobbie Phillips and Jennifer Connelly.

hi there
ther's a small mistake about diana's origins; though she was made of clay, she needed a kind of sparkle of live that was neeed to give her life, and this sparkle was given by Hades; actually, it is a bit more complicated, (hippolyta and hades were in love in a while, etc) but it is a fact that magical clay by itself was not enough

Methinks you are misinformed.
I believe that little bit may have come from the animated Justice League.
The original was magic clay imbued with life from the Amazon collective.
Wonder Woman was not only an emmisary from the Amazons to the male-dominated outside world, she was also the protector of the Amazons themselves. My memory is coming back in bits and pieces.

She gave birth to her baby boy Milo William Langdon in December and didn't bother losing her weight since then. I could see her as WW being tall and beautiful. With workout she could get in great shape and her acting skills would enable her to look both naive and in charge of herself.

Third of all, it is doubtful people would warm up to the idea of RuPaul as a candidate for Wonder Woman in the mainstream.

Yup... think you can count Kate out... here is the article.
Wonder Woman Isn't for Beckinsale
Source: MTV May 19, 2006
MTV chatted with "Underworld" franchise star Kate Beckinsale, who says she's not interested in playing Wonder Woman:
As Kate Beckinsale sees it, she could never play Wonder Woman even if the part were offered to her.
"I never got the underwear," she explained recently. "My mother didn't believe in nylon underwear. She thought it made you itchy."
It's been nearly a year since rumors surfaced that Beckinsale would star in Joss Whedon's "Wonder Woman" movie, and the actress is still having to answer to it.
"I get texted from friends all around the world saying, 'That's so awesome! I'm so happy for you. That's so great,' and I have to just text them and say, 'It's actually not true,' " Beckinsale said. "I think I've embarrassed my daughter quite enough."
Actually, there's a more honest reason beyond wardrobe: A superhero movie is not what Beckinsale wants to do next. Judging by her upcoming movie, it seems the actress is more interested in dramas.

Liv has an elvin face, but she wouldnt fit the role of Arwen if people knew how the character was described (think Jenny Connelly :)).
and for folks knockin about her weight-- at least she's keepin it real.

I've been checking out Nadia Borljin pictures and i agree. She definetely looks the part. Nice curvy body and beautiful blue eyes.
But I don't know how well she can act.

Well, my ideal cast for Wonder Woman, would be:
Firts choice....Liv Tyler
Second choice.... Jenny Connelly
Actually, if you see this:

I chose JC to be my WW
but somehow I don´t think she would accept the role if it was offered to her, but maybe LT would (I didn´t use her as my WW, becasue I have her reserved for a character in a story that I´m working on...)
and BTW, I also think that LT looks a lot healthier that most of the ther girls that have been mentioned here, at least she have some meat on her bones...

I can't believe i haven't seen Rebecca Romijn's name here for WW. She's obviously perfect, just dye her hair! She's been in X-men and other various action movies, and she can act. She's super tall, very pretty, still young enough and isn't flat chested.

This Wonder Woman has to be early 20's, as much as it is to fanboys' dismay. She needs to be able to do multiple movies after this first one.

Bjorlin is very appealing at least in her own way, however, I am not certain that she is Wonder Woman. I prefer her to Morena Baccarin.

her face is enormous.
Her acting sucks. I was forced to watch it..

Morena is coming to Toronto in September. Hopefully I can meet her and visually gauge whether I get a Wonder Woman-like presense from her.
Then again, if shes casted before then....thatd be cool too.
I'd still prefer Taylor Cole.

Good idea. Could you ask Morena if she could twirl in a cirle with her arms extended to see how she would look doing that? Also see if she willing to run up and down the aisles as well.

She should probably cut back on the burgers and fries a little.
They arent gonna cast an American Idol singer as Wonder Woman...cmon now.

Um lets be serious some acting ability is required for this role. Just casting someone because they look the part regardless of whether or not they can act is just asking for a disaster.

Kat Mcphee... god i hope she wins :O
i like Taylor, but he's really less of a singer and more of an all-around entertainer, like a Robin-Williams or Whoopi Goldberg :D
