Totally agree. I wish people would just get past the fact that she was on American Idol and judge her on her merits.....

Also, I want to add, Katharine comes from an athletic background--she took extensive dance classes as a child and still retains a lot of flexibility(go see the outtakes of the publicity shoot she did for the launch of the Crown Princess)and also swam competitively for her high school.

I just can't get past the fact that she is no longer an unkown and that she doesn't remind me of Wonder Woman.

Give her prep and workout time to get to this again and there you have Wonder Woman.
I'm not saying no to McPhee because she was on Idol. I'm saying no because she can't act. And posting a picture of her next to Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman might have helped if they looked anything alike.
And FYI, Jodi is an actress, not a Maxim model. This pic happens to be from a Maxim photoshoot which many actresses pose for.

I also like the choice of Kirshner but I think she'd be a better Zatanna.

Her name is LINDA CARTER. Not Diana Carter. LOL. The actress is Linda Carter, and the hero is Diana Prince.

Anyway. Thanks to luvai for make a current poster of Kat. She's lost 30lbs during the course of AI, and these pictures speak for themselves. She DOES look like Linda Carter. And it IS important since Linda Carter also looks like the countless reversions of Wonder Woman on comic books. She's dark haired, tall enough, has acting experience, nominated for a prestigious acting award, and she's 22, which falls in the range of 16-24..which Joel Silver has confirmed to be looking for.

I think if one puts the AI stigma out of Kat..she does make a great candidate.

High Cheekbones..dark haired....almond shaped eyes......thin long lips......heart shaped face.......they look like mother and daughter.

Who called her Diana Carter? :confused:
And by the way, if you're going to correct the name, it's Lynda Carter, not Linda.
You're right the pictures do speak for themselves but they're not saying what you want to hear.
Age doesn't affect your range, your range depends on how you look and how well you can act.
Again I'm looking at it sans AI since I don't watch the show; I did happen to see Crazy, McPhee isn't that great, mediocre at best.
She's too short, she's only 5'8".
I can buy them being mother daughter but that doesn't mean she can pull off Wonder Woman.

Hey there! I'm a newbie to the site but this was the first thread I wanted to weigh in on.

I've looked and I've looked but I didn't see anyone list Catherine Bell (J.A.G.) as a choice. True she's older than some would like (37), but she carries herself like Lynda Carter, gots the boomin' bod, and her British-Iranian heritage gives her a unique look. She's even got the smile!

As for some of the other choices, I could see Jody Lyn in the red and gold bustier. Monica is older but would give WW a hell of a run with her looks. Julie Strain would have been one of the only choices a few years back. Karen Cliche's eyes staring down Giganta......Yeow!

The biggest thing I have to consider is does she(whomever gets the roll) fill the roll like Lynda Carter did? Can I actually believe that she's WW?

I vote for Liv Tyler. She's not the biggest name in Hollywood, which is something that is usually a plus for the leading role of a superhero film, isn't it? Thats not my only reason, I just like her for the role.

This is one area that everyone seems to be disregarding. Baccarrin is about 5'8"(and formerly the voice of Black Canary on JLU)and unless you are going to put her in 3-inch heeled boots or cast the entire movie with actors in the same range of height, is going to be a little short. Plus, whoever is cast is going to have to have the build of a fitness competitor out-of season, like a Torrie Wilson or April Hunter.

My choice would be Melissa Witek. She is a relative unknown BUT she is perfect for the part. She was Miss Florida USA 2005 and 4th runner up in the Miss USA pageant (Just like Halle Berry). I have actually tried to write and send pictures to Josh Whedon to no avail.

Much better to get it right at the start.

Most people—the general public too, not just comic fanboys—expect her to be very tall. It fits the character's description (she is a 5'11" Amazon, afterall) and, just as important, it creates a more imposing physical presence. Lynda Carter is 5'9" and she played Wonder Woman 30 years ago on television—they still kept her in heels all the time, btw—long before the WNBA and female tennis players averaging close to 6' in height.

I'm sorry, but 5'7" simply isn't "tall" in this context.

Everyone knows Hugh Jackman was way too tall to play Wolverine. Look how that worked out. I'm not sure you're helping your argument there. He was convincing kicking butt exactly because he was taller. I could be wrong here, but I think they knew this and it was more or less a conscious decision on their part to go taller. They suspected, it turns out correctly, that it would be difficult to sell someone 5'3" as being such a formidable character on screen, it may even look silly, and that it would be better to have someone taller in the role. Regardless, because it worked that way doesn't mean it will work going the other direction.

She's a pretty girl, but I didn't see anything that compelled me to think she's a great candidate for Wonder Woman—especially when compared with, say, Jodi Lyn O'Keefe, Amelia Cooke, or Taylor Cole.

I also wasn't able to see much in the way of acting experience either. It appears she's mainly a beauty contestant and model, and I guess she has been on Treasure Hunters (a reality show?). Is that correct?

She looks modestly athletic, but pretty slight too. She'd have to do some serious work in the gym (in her case especially so, just to make up for the lack of height):

Yes I did. In fact, I went to her website and looked around. She's a pretty girl, but I didn't see anything that compelled me to think she's a great candidate for Wonder Woman—especially when compared with, say, Jodi Lyn O'Keefe, Amelia Cooke, or Taylor Cole.

5'7" is on the short side. Wonder Woman's statistic is 5'11", and she's often depicted as being taller, nearly as tall as Superman even without heels. It doesn't make sense to cast a 6'3" Superman and then go with a 5'7" Wonder Woman. She needs to look imposing, and height helps greatly with that.

You could maybe go slightly less than 5'8", but only if it's someone with a killer athletic bod (e.g., Jessica Biel or Missy Peregrym) who therefore still looks formidable. It's important that Wonder Woman is gorgeous and feminine; however, she really needs to look like she can take care of business too.

Anyway, my top pick for Wonder Woman is Jodi Lyn O'Keefe, a big girl with dark hair and blue eyes. She seems tailor-made for this to me:

Amelia Cooke looks GREAT but I don't like her for WW. She needs blue eyes in my opinion.

Katharine McPhee I love also but NOT NOT NOT as wonder woman. Whether she can act or not (don't know) she does not look like WW and does not have the right demeanor. Too soft. Lucy Lawless too harsh.

WW has to look like wonderwoman, be firm and solid YET compassionate, beautiful yet not too sexy. All of this Lynda Carter did and more.

This is a great debate and it will probably be nobody here, but before we go further I have to say it's going to be tough even for the director. Lynda Carter set such a high bar in all aspects. Also, it is a very tough role to file and a tough movie to write.

I think everyone has some good ideas, and I dont mean to knock anyone. I mean, look at the poll. This is the first poll I ever remember where "other" was the winning category....and there were like 8 choices given!

I hope they do the part justice. moreso than any other movie, they better make a solid choice, not just the uncles nephew's next door neighbor or the girl who is sleeping with the director or whatever.

If they do, the movie will TANK. I.e. a Katherine McPhee WW would be a huge bust. I say this being a KP lover and thought she should have won AI far and away. Not a hater at all. She's just not Wonder Woman. No way, no how.

It's not just your suggestion, it's basically everyone on here who has suggested someone who has competed in a pageant because their pretty and their only validation is because Lynda Carter was a beauty queen. She did have an acting career, but you're right. It wasnt much of one. One movie I'm aware of that she did before landing the role of Wonder Woman is a movie titled, "Bobbie Jo and the Outlaw".

Don't remember it? Don't worry. You're not the only one. It was one of those low budget AIP movies from the mid-to-late 70's. But it did have a few love scenes with Mrs. Carter that showed off that to die for body, which to be honest, was one of the reasons why I bought a DVD copy of it off of eBay. :yay:

Anyways, yeah. I agree that no one will ever touch the greatness Lynda Carter brought to the role. Much in the same way no one will ever touch the greatness that Chris Reeve brought to the role of Superman back in the late 70's.

My personal pick right now would have to be Morena Baccarin (if we're talking a 20-something WW). I've been more impressed with her acting out of the names that have been mentioned in the previous 5-10 pages of this thread. Alot of girls have the look, but it's the acting I'm far more concerned with. And with this movie, I doubt it will be easy for ANY actress to make this movie float.

Because if the character doesnt work, then this movie doesnt work (which can be very stressful for any unknown actress). And it's going to take alot more than just posing and looking pretty for this film to work. And out of the young actresses that have been mentioned, I think I would feel more comfortable with Morena as the lead than any of the names mentioned thus far. So yeah, she's Wonder Woman to me.

Well, the acting edges out the "look" for me. But only slightly. Every actress can, and will bring something different with their interpretation of Wonder Woman. Well, the acting edges out the "look" for me. But only slightly. Every actress can, and will bring something different with their interpretation of Wonder Woman. It's just a matter of Joss choosing who he thinks is right for his take on Wonder Woman. Again, it will, and rightfully should take much more than just another pretty face.

I agree, its not just the look, which is key but so is the right take on the character. I got sick when I heard that rumor about Bilson because she would just not have made a tough looking Wonder Woman. Its hard because most of the younger hollywood women, while beautiful, aren't tough looking in my opinion. I love Alba and Biel but I just can't see them pulling this off.

I have to say the pics of seen i've Caterina, she does look stunning too. And Manuela Arcuri is another :wow: . I'm going to Rome in November to do some sightseeing but alas I'm sure these Italian beauties won't be on the tour.

Back on subject - has anybody mentioned Denise Quinones? She had a guest shot on Smallville and was in the Aquaman pilot and she pulled off the tough girl image rather well I thought.

Of course, the same can be said of all the other frail, elfin, and unathletic types being talked about.

True. I could see Biel as WW alot more than I ever could Jessica Alba.
If Biel gets it, I wouldnt be too terribly upset. But like you, she wouldnt be my initial choice.

The more I look at Taylor Cole the more convincing she looks as Wonder Woman. She's a stunner. She's only an inch and a half shy of 5'10" so why not. I've never seen her act though. Never seen Summerland (reminds me of the Kings X song) either.

As for Jessica Biel, I love her but I won't be too disappointed. But they can choose a better actress.

I think Charisma Carpenter should give up her pursuit. She's too old.

jessica biel- no, shes pretty but looks nothing like ww face wise, and have u seen her act? or heard her voice? she has a deep voice. and whenever she tries to act tough she comes across as either sulky or butch. i don't think she should be considered. might as well get lindsey lohan, at least she looks more like ww...

maria c g- she doesn't look like ww either. and can she act w/o an accent?

taylor cole- ummm, not really sure on this one, shes pretty, could maybe pass as ww, but is she good at acting? & will she be able to beef up for the role? & also her eyes are really green, and thanks to SR, we all know how good colored contacts look on screen.

jennifer hawkins- i think shes soooo beautiful, & i guess she'd look like ww w/ black hair, but black hair doesn't always look good on blondes, so i'm not sure if that'd work. but if it did, u have the problem of can she act & can she learn how to speak w/o an australian accent! besides, shes really busy working as a spokesperson & model for lots of companies in australia.

evangeline lilly- pretty, good actress, but a bit too slight, & even tho she has the right coloring, doesn't look much like ww to me. plus u have the problem of getting her off that island...
