Oh, and comparing the stats:
AJ Styles is 5'10" and weights 215 pounds according to the TNA website.
Shawn is 6'1" and weighs 225 pounds according to the WWE website.
It's an almost even match according to size, but HBK does have the advantage in experience :o

You obviously haven't watched enough puroresu :) .
HBK isn't exactly a heavyweight either. He probably doesn't way much more than AJ Styles who's about 217.
Simply put AJ Styles is the true Show-stoppah :D . Even Michael Shane (now Matt Bentley) will surpass HBK eventually methinks.
puroresu ????
as for styles he kind of just reminds me of mysterio flashy and fun but doesnt have enough to work a classic match on a phsycological level
How tall is styles ?
anyway i will take this no further until i have seen more of Styles;)

That's somewhat insulting because Rey Mysterio knows how to work classic and pyschological matches and has participated in what are considered to be some of the best matches of all time.
And once again, to say that about Styles just shows how ignorant you are of him. One can just as easily say that about Shawn Michaels by watching some of his matches.
Considering that you boasted of watching wrestling from "all over the world" you should know what puroresu means ;) .
Sabretooth I agree that RVD being in TNA would be awesome, but he has sadly re-signed with WWE I think.

Rey mysterios matches are not on a phsycological level like say the matches HBK has had with Bret hart or HHH or Angle anyway i lke mysterio and as far as being ignorant of styles that is true but everyone ive heard talk about him only ever raves on about his flying moves but no one mentions much on his ability to work a match beyond doing high spots there is more to great wrestling than that

I sometimes hate these things like "who would win? AJ Styles or HBK/Benoit/etc". It's very hard to tell sometimes because the wrestling style in the WWE and TNA differ a lot. It's like trying to compare RVD in ECW to RVD in WWE.......

You obviously need to see a lot more Rey Mysterio matches. Mysterio can mat-wrestle with the best of them if need be. And there can ALSO be psychology to the luchadore and lucha-libre style that Mysterio forms.

AJ Styles is a three time NWA world champion, a title that has a lineage dating back over a 100 years. He was the first champion for the prestigious X Division. He's wrestled and made a name for himself and become a superstar all over the world. He's a former ROH Pure wrestling champion, IWA champ, and the current PWG champion.
I don't think the amount of PPV's changes anything. Back in the 70's and 80's there was a LOT more wrestling on than there is now, its just nothing was as big as the WWF/E.

My point was with the amount of televised wrestling now it is easier to get guys over really fast,as for the titles he has won.that NWA title is very dubious in its lineage, the company goes back 100 years yes but it could be argued that the belt WWE currently use is the real NWA title so it is way to complicated to really make blanket statements

Newsflash hunter rider, the only regularly televised wrestling promotion right now is WWE.
And the WWE World Heavyweight Title is NOT the NWA world title since if you check out their title histories the NWA champions are NOT included.
There is even less wrestling on TV than there was 5 years ago.

You again miss the point years ago when the wrestling was on TV it took ages to get a guy over as he spent every week wrestling a jobber and there were only 4 PPV's a year in WWE,contrast that to now, there are 15 PPVs a year so the amount of times an up and comer can be put over is greatly increased so making him a star and a champ is a much easier process, that is why guys are becoming champions quicker and at a younger age, look at the age difference in champions now
Ric Flair was 35 when he won his first world title in the 80's
HBK-was 30 when he won his first world title in the 90's
Randy orton was 24 when he won his first title in 2004
As for the NWA title,WCW owned that belt when NWA was made into WCW under ted turner,WWe then bought WCW so the original title belt is theirs
when a new promotion turned up using the NWA as their name it was essentially NWAINO

There are that many PPV's but for separate rosters, the same wrestlers aren't on the same shows anymore.
Ric Flair was 35 when he won his first world title in the 80's
HBK-was 30 when he won his first world title in the 90's
Randy orton was 24 when he won his first title in 2004
I think that just speaks more of AJ's ability and performance level :) .
And that's the ONLY reason Orton won the world title at that age. So they could have a younger world champion than Brock Lesnar who they wanted to humiliate.

Its been around a lot longer than that. This is the same NWA title that Shane Douglas spit on and threw away over a decade ago. NWA became WCW but they still had separate NWA titles and matches, and the NWA world title never formally or officially became the WCW world title, and since Raven currently holds it...WWE obviously doesn't own it.

anyway we are arguing semantics now so ill leave it,i have nothing against styles
As for the NWA title ,its again a lot more complex then your making it out to be,the NWA was ran outve Atlanta before being made into WCW and going national,it is true that at one point there was a WCW and NWA title in WCW but in 1994 Sting and Flair had a title match to unify the belts which Flair won and that belt just became known as the world title which is now used in WWE
So the new prmotion that TNA got their NWA title from isnt the real NWA thus the belt is the NWA title In Name only;)

In the 70's and 80's there was a lot of wrestling on regionally. In the south they had the NWA/WCW, in the midwest they had the AWA and in the northeast they had WWF, now in the 80's NWA/WCW expanded more as did WWF, but someone like myself who lives in Wisconsin or peoplae in Minnesota, Michigan, would never see a NWA/WCW show or WWF show (until the late 80's) it was all AWA. So while their was more wrestling on it was all regionally, and unless you were a tape trader you wouldn't get to see other wrestling promotions.

This match would've been a perfect opportunity for Matt Hardy to come out and attack Christian. It would not only be something different for Hardy, it would show that Hardy doesn't give a **** (as they're trying to do with his gimmick currently), plus it gives a bit of history behind it as Christian is supposed to be Edge's "brother"

OJ could've been a good US champion......if they let him actually defend the title once in a while or if he actually had an actual feud for the title
He won the title shortly before Wrestlemania. That's like 3 or 4 months....name one feud he's actually had in defending that title. That's why the US title is ****. Look at Shelton Benjamin, that guy brought legitimacy back to the IC title because he defended it on an almost weekly basis. And he became more credible because of it. OJ is nothing but a joke now, even with that US title around his waist.
Benoit would've been good for the US title because there would've been a small chance it would've been defended on a regular basis.....

Oh yeah! Chokeslammed him on the steel panneling but then figured that wasn't enough. So he removed a few pieces of the paneling and gave him the Last Ride right through it, onto the cold concrete. Guys busted the back of his head open and was left convulsing.

Good riddiance to Mohammed Hassan.
First, you spelled Muhammed wrong; & second, Mark Magnus & Shawn Davari are great wrestlers & both have great mic skills. Show some respect. Magnus took a way too cliche character & made it go over like wild fire. They took a race that wasn't even their own & made everyone (or at least the casual fans) believe. (Magnus is Italian I just firgot his real last name... it begins with a P. & Davri is Persian & if you do research you would know Persians & Arabs are 2 different races.) Plus Hassan was the first character to get mainstream media attention in almost 3 years.
For people in Florida, Sunsine network shows TNA:Impact tapings every friday at midnight.

I'm not going to show them any respect because they have done NOTHING to earn mine. Mark Magnus is a mediocre wrestler and it makes me sick he still has a job while great wrestlers and performers like Shannon Moore and Haas were fired. And slugs like Heidenreich and Animal are the tag champs.
I highly doubt having a character that draws attention to and comparison to the people that cut off the heads of Americans and just bombed innocent people in London is the kind of mainstream media attention WWE wants.
The gimmick was designed to be controversial for controversy's sake and it backfired on WWE big time plain and simple.
And just a little FYI, Arab American and Muslim civil rights groups HATED the character as well.
It was a horrible, stereotypical character that incites and provokes negative feelings toward a minority and that is NOT a good thing.
For people in Florida, Sunsine network shows TNA:Impact tapings every friday at midnight.
They should, that way they can watch a REAL wrestling promotion without stupid **** like Mohammed Hassan and this CRAPPY ass PPV WWE made people pay for tonight. At least TNA understands that when you make fans pay 30 dollars or more for a show, you better freaking deliver the goods.

I didn't say his character was amazing I said the wrestler using the character was great. I am with you on the stereotypes & that MAYBE WWE did not want that kind of attention. I said that the character worked. 3 months after 9/11 there were comedians making jokes, noone said anything. & if the terrorist angle didn't happen to air the same day as the London bombing nobody would have thought to compare it to the decapitation video that occured almost 2-3 years ago.(even though it is common knowlage SD! is tape 2 days before so comparing it to that is obsured). So don't blame anyone for bad timing. esspecially sence it had a disclaimer in the begining of the show & a crawl that warned people every 15 minutes. If WWE is theater than blame the director not the actor.
TheVileOne

There's a difference, and I had huge problems with Hassan long before the disclaimer. The character was a disaster waiting to happen and the latest turn of events proves it. WWE obviously isn't going to fight for the character either.

I've heard and read the results of the WWE PPV. Thankfully I've stopped ordering WWE PPV's, and as many of you know, the WWE just doesn't care about their product anymore. Hence why it's in the state of crap that it's in now, simply because of the lack of competition and their way of releasing talented wrestlers.
TNA has a tv deal and they'll be a great alternative. But they'll have to advertise themselves and show WHY they're better than WWE. Sure, we can spread the word and so forth, but TNA needs to show why they have the better athletes and why they're a better alternative.
With all the releases the WWE made, it should be no surprise that TNA will pick them up and only better their show.
That's why I miss the WWF vs. WCW Monday Night Wars. It was always fun to watch one show, then flip back to the other one to see what was happening, and to see them acknowledge each other on Tv. Man those were the days and I miss them deeply.
WWE needs to get rid of the Hollywood Soap Opera writers, get rid of the dead weight big guys who aren't entertaining or can't wrestle, and cut down on the use of JBL and Ego H. Granted, I'd rather watch and listen to JBL over Ego H, but they're both boring in a sense and fans grow tired of them both really quick.
And with their lack of wrestlers right now, it's become perfectly obvious that the titles mean nothing. As VileOne said, WWE is sucking and they know it, and nothing will be done until TNA can appeal to a much bigger and broader audience. Which is why I'm not watching WWE, they're not getting any free ratings or PPV money from me, so screw them and screw their crappy product. :)

These hollywood writers know nothing about wrestling. One of the diva search rejects(Alexis) wrote a poem and Katie Vick was mentioned in it,well the writers did not get it. That really pisses me off. Lets say there was only wcw in the 90's do you think we would of ever gotten Stone Cold NO!!!. Like u said the wwe needs competition to better themselves. I mean competing brands isn't working. The brand split has run its course. Look at GAB a god awful ppv, why because it was a brand only ppv.

As far as who will get the next shot at batista's world title it will be jbl again if you look at the ending of their gab match.

"Vince McMahon Upset With Last Night's PPV
Published by Brian Cantor on 07/25/2005 at 01:05 PM

- Vince McMahon was said to be very upset with last night's PPV. After two consecutive pay-per-views that led to strong reaction from fans and wrestlers alike, Great American Bash was seen as a dud, and even Vince expressed displeasure. He was seen walking around backstage in a very bad mood.
- There were quite a few upset with the logic of Batista getting disqualified in the main-event, although WWE has consistently stood by the concept that it has creative liberty to ignore certain things and focus on others."

More WWE news;
Credit: PWInsider.com Elite News Hotline
- SmackDown! workers have stated that Christian is very aware that the proverbial rug has been pulled from under him by WWE.
- Christian was said to be very happy a few months back when it seemed WWE would be pushing him as a main-eventer, however his feelings have now changed and while he isn't being a bad employee over it, he is said to be upset at how things have turned out.
- Christian was of course cleanly pinned in his first match on SmackDown! and lost to Booker T at the Great American Bash this past Sunday when the 5-time WCW champion had no momentum going into the match.
- On SmackDown! worker stated that Christian is just "one of them now" after realizing his push is going nowhere. -------------------------------------------------------------------------
I must say Christian should be upset. It's not like they're ever going to give him a fair chance, all the more reason why this TNA deal needs to hurry up and offer an alternative.

-One of the main reason's that Vince McMahon was so upset last night had to deal with Batista's work in the main event against JBL. Vince & WWE have had really high hopes that Batista would be able to carry the title and continue to draw fans, but they are now concerned about his in ring work. Batista's rough in-ring work didn't show up as much in his series of matches against Triple H, because Triple H was able to carry him so well, but last night it was obvious that Batista was having problems in his match with JBL.
Well, look who you put Batista against. You put him up against JBL who isn't exactly a ringmaster and watchable wrestler in the ring. Now, maybe if you put Batista against The Undertaker, Chris Benoit, or Christian for a title defense you'll get a good to great match out of him.

Then if they felt that way, he shouldn't have won the title and they could've had Benoit, Christian, Jericho, or Kane win the title from Ego H.
That is not the fault of Batista. WWE is just in a sad sorry state of affairs, and they've dug themselves in a deep hole. Oh well.

The only reason he has a fan base is because he split from Evolution. If he never did that, then he would never be in the title picture. The WWE is trying to make a new Goldberg, and Batista just won't be that.

I heard before that he really wasn't that bad of a wrestler in OVW. He could've certainly handled his own. But it seemed that the WWE designated him as a cowardly heel and that was why he would always get destroyed in matches but still manage to squeak away with the victory or his belt intact. I'm glad that he was allowed on Raw this week to at least showcase some of his wrestling skill

If TNA can keep up with their current pace (and not allow the Russo's or Dusty Rhodes to return) by the time their on Spike TV, they could eventually a suitable enough audience to compete with the WWE. That would be the only solution to Vince waking up and changing his product around.....

If they can keep up this current pace and actually become a second alternative to wrestling like WCW was, I don't see why they won't be. They just need to stay away from some of the politics that pervaded WCW and WWE at the moment. But TNA has greatly improved. They still show some of their old episodes from 2002-2003 here and by god, was most of the stuff pretty horrible to watch.

I have been following tna for a while and one thing that I have noticed is that even though they do have a group of young wrestlers who could be the future stars in this business. They are being pushed to the side for the older veterans like Jarret and Raven. If you have been watching there impact shows that are shown on line thanks to real player. Jarret has pushed himself back in to the title picture once again. He is tna's version of triple h.

I can't really fault Raven being TNA champion at the moment though. This was a guy who put his blood (literally) and sweat for the company for 2 years and was frequently unappreciated....they even had him jobbing to Dustin Rhodes a few months back!
And one good thing about TNA as well is the X-division. It's treated as a division that is almost as prestige as the heavyweight division itself and it is there that the majority of the younger talent is allowed to showcase their stuff.
TheVileOne
07-26-2005, 05:29 PM
Raven's world title win was way overdue and no one deserved it more than him. They can always give it back to guys like AJ Styles.
Daniels I think in a year from now should be world champion after he's done with the X title.
But as Constantine said, the X title in many ways is just as significant as the world title. That's why AJ Styles like to keep returning for competing it, he prefers the X division style over the heavyweight style.

More WWE News:
Many wrestlers are currently frustrated with the creative team. Recently, Vince McMahon gave a speech to the wrestlers asking them to step it up a notch. The wrestlers will do whatever they can, but for the most part it is up to creative if they can take that next step. The creative team is responsible for virtually every aspect of their character, including what they say in promo's, if they are given a chance to do one.
The creative team members insist that it's the talent's fault for not getting themselves over, which couldn't be further from the truth as the talent is only allowed to do what they are told to do by creative.

Hassan Update from WZ
In a new WWE.com video clip, SmackDown! General Manager Theodore Long tells Muhammad Hassan that although he's not welcome on SmackDown, he can feel free to go to RAW. The full transcript of the worked promo is below:
"For the past month, Muhammad Hassan has been at the center of a media firestorm. From CNN to USA Today, headlines are all talking about Muhammad Hassan's controversial mission to become the world champion. At the Great American Bash, Muhammad Hassan said that if he did not defeat the Undertaker and become the number one contender, that he would never again appear on SmackDown. We all saw what happened at the Great American Bash. Mr. Hassan is a beaten man - physically and emotionally, with all of his injuries. Now, Mr. Hassan, if you're thinking about coming back to SmackDown...we don't want you, playa. You can go to RAW, or you could go anywhere else on this planet, but as far as I'm concerned, you can go to hell!"

I actually like the fact he's feuding with Angle right now. Angle is a great comedic character when he wants to be and it'll be interesting to see his interactions with Eugene the next few weeks (IMO).
With Shawn, it seems like they're trying to bring back the old HBK - The Showstoppa, the main event, the Icon.....;) Did you hear his interview on Raw this week? He totally ripped into Hogan shoot-style. It was pretty kickass
Well i guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on Eugene/Angle:)
I havent s seen the promo yet but i heard it was great, the thing is the crowd cheered him i wonder if the crowd reaction will be mixed at Summerslam
I also think after Summerslame he will win the World title and probably defend iuntil he puts someone over at WM22 (cena most liley:mad: :( )

Shawn should be more cocky. He sorta acts like a face.:o But yeah,he schooled Hogan. And he was so awesome, that when he finished, everybody in the building cheered him.I hope he beats Hogan at SS.:o

Well he is acting a bit more cocky. BUt he's trying to maintain his mature attitude as well. It's an interesting update on his character IMO.
Plus, a Shawn Michaels who makes shoot comments frequently might make an interesting opponent to an RVD who tells it like it is :)

I doubt it. A ladder match maybe because HBK always wanted to fight RVD in a ladder match.....

The Intercontinental title maybe? After-all, they did set up an RVD-Carlito match in the future....
As for WM 22, I would guess either Kurt Angle, Carlito, or even Triple H

But then again, it doesn't have to be main event to be great. Shawn versus Kurt last year wasn't main event, but people still anticipated that match more than the title matches :)
Angle or Carlito versus Cena I could actually stand more because of the history Cena has with those two.....I could actually picture Angle winning the title sometime before Royal Rumble and Cena winning it back at WM.....

yeah that sounds awful but very lilkely:( ive given up ever expecting to see a decent main event on a WWE ppv again i mean Carlito in the WM main event would be :( and the fact it has to be Cena already makes the match crap by default,i would just like for a change the last match of the night to actually be between to great wrestlers:o

Carlito's not that bad. I could actually see him in the main event. But not right now or at WM 22. Maybe 2 or 3 years from now. At least he's less annoying than Cena is ;)
The last match of the night for WM usually isn't supposed to be the best match though. It's just supposed to be the one where the big face wins over all hardships. I think it's the WWE's way of closing off the show in a positive manner....
